I don't see them often. Worst place is when I go to the office in London. We're not based far from all the tourist attractions (without giving too much away, it's only a few minutes walk from the Millennium Bridge).

So you already have two big groups of people with different interests: commuters just trying to get somewhere, and tourists standing around in the middle of the sidewalk reading their maps upside down.

So yeah... when you also end up with teens recording their dumb shit in the way, no-one has the patience for it.

Having done a bunch of work trips to central London, my attitude toward tourists has soured a bit 😄 Now I join the locals in swearing at them when they stand on the wrong side of escalators.

I am looking for a solution for my house.

At the moment, I have a simple thermostat at home that can only turn my boiler on and off, and it is located in the living room. I want a solution to be able to screw a smart valve onto the existing valve of the radiator in every room, so that I can control the temperature in each room separately. I’ve already done a bit of research and found the Honeywell Evohome system. Can this be integrated with Home Assistant? Or does anyone perhaps know of a better, more up-to-date system that might work better?

Well, I sure didn't think of this edge case... We pull in the driveway and the garage door opens via an automation and since it's dark out, it doesn't turn on the garage lights beyond the little opener light. Just then my wife spots a skunk under the truck we part in the driveway. He sees us and starts walking towards the garage. I grab the phone and open HA and turn on the bright shop lights in the garage and he does a 180° and books it into the yard. Phew!

Wasn't quite what I meant. I definitely could (if I cared to, which frankly I don't), because my LoRa gateway uses the standard LoRa OTAA/ABP pairing.
Assuming Ubiquiti's one there is LoRa (which isn't confirmed, I should add, just seems highly likely), the assertion was they quite likely aren't, meaning if their sensors turn out to be good but their gateway isn't, you may not be able to use their sensors with another brand of gateway.

My Panasonic camera uses a different mini-USB from my old Canon, which uses a different standard from my Sony, which uses two different standards, except one standard isn't ACTUALLY a standard, it's just a proprietary morphing of an existing standard, which is different from the standard my ebook reader uses, and none of those are the same standard as my old MP3 player...

My printer supports basic B, ethernet, and wifi. The wifi works....sometimes, the ethernet works occasionally but it's in an inopportune place for it(read: I don't feel like routing a cable), and the USB sorta works and I routed it long enough ago that I don't care to undo it. XD

At least Mini-B was decently robust. I got real tired of recrimping micro-B connectors.

There's ways around it, every driver has a "Server version", which you can just force to install instead, but it still has some problems.

I enjoy it because I install it, I do Shockingly little to it after the install, and it does everything I tell it to. No spending all day in terminal, no shaking angry sticks at it most of the time. The intel problem is mostly intel's fault, they really want you to buy commercial stuff for commercial environments and get whiny about consumer stuff used for enterprise software.

Win11 has been an absolute horrorshow for me. And this computer came with 11.
WiFi, Bluetooth and audio all just randomly stop working from time to time. It's even more determined to persistently change your settings for you (I submit angry all-caps feedback to Microsoft now). Settings that used to exist have been deprecated WITH NO REPLACEMENT. Things that should be configurable just aren't. It's awful.

(There was a fun... fun? Infuriating... bug with Intel based network drivers that caused the system to report that it was offline... even as you were browsing and being fully connected. Which in turn caused certain things to believe that it was in fact offline when it wasn't and stop working)
