Optimize this building and deconstructing homes.
Energy is needed = people better get back to work

heh.... So Japan called. XD

They basically took the Sears Home concept and refined it to a slightly psychotic degree. XD

there are still companies working on hyperloop. TU delft is still wasting money on it and using it in marketing material

honestly I don't know why they keep putting students on this

#

waste of time and money

loud pike
#

It's like putting money into rockets that can land themselves, it's a massive waste of money. Not only do you have to carry extra fuel for the landing(and with a rocket launch, every OUNCE of cargo is a ridiculous amount of potential cash), but you still have to go over the entire thing with a fine tooth comb anyway.

glacial knot
#

education is a giant money sink already 🤷
Giving the students some fun projects to practice on is nice

loud pike
#

But it makes certain shitheads who shall remain nameless millions in government contracts. So of course they promote it as much as possible.

Meanwhile, old boosters were a tube. A big hollow tube filled with a shaped tube of aluminium and iron rust powder packed together. Light on fire, it goes until it don't go, it fall down, recover tube from ocean, melt down, make new tube.

#

Nothing particularly complex. It goes until it's empty. Then it doesn't go no mo.

glacial knot
#

sometimes I feel like I should just start a support consulting company...

loud pike
#

Now we're building motors and fins and fans and extra fuel and extra crap and extra nonsense into a disposable booster because we might wanna eventually reuse the disposable booster.

It's like those dorkuses whose cabinet is full of used takeout containers because "They're still good, I can clean them"

Sounds like corruption to me.

#

Shouldn't be using public funds for public education to fund private interest.

#

Also we all know that what education Really needs is for Scandinavia and the World comics to become part of the curriculum so that people can know all about how Denmark's mouth is full of potatoes.

To say nothing of the fact that internships are all too often used to replace paid work and almost never result in any real positive benefit for the student.

primal laurel
loud pike
#

Great example. College I used to go to, I was in an AV program. They required an internship. The internship they consistently "Encouraged" as the "Most prestigious and most likely to get you work in the industry"? Was as a check-in clerk for the company the dean's husband owned.

Sounds like they can have whatever they want, if it's illegal it's illegal

Actually, that's.... an interesting thought.

Does anyone have a source for a HA-integratable thin panel scale? XD

lone dagger

I think some of the EU countries have it. I swear I remember some people talking about it...

#

So I opened the litter box thingie in HA, which I have never had cause to do until now because it's throwing an error...

#

Turns out the "Cycle the litter box" command? Is labelled as "Vacuum".

#

For a thousand reasons I ask WHY. XD

ocean oar
#

I think the answer is "not re-inventing the wheel"

#

Robot cat toilet has about 80% cross-over in function with robot vacuum, why make something custom

yeah "stock hardware/software"

loud pike

Does the drawer full indicator tell you if it's Full or not?

dawn badge
#

same reason my door sensor shows up as a window sensor

loud pike
#

No. It tells you "On or Off". XD

ocean oar
#

The LR3 didn't exactly have precise science behind its "level" value anyway; just increases the percentage by 1/24 of 100% for each cycle until it gets to 90%, and only when it trips the IR breakbeam sensor does it suddenly jump to 100%

loud pike
#

That is not a joke by the way. XD

#

Someone did not set up the binary on/off setting properly. XD

loud pike
ocean oar
#

Sure, but the value is fake

loud pike
#

I mean, you're not wrong. XD

#

For SO many reasons.

#

"Let's make a litter box that dumps only to the back part of the really big drawer and thinks it's full when the very back part of the drawer piles up. No sloping to the front or anything."

ocean oar
#

Well I don't know about you, but about every third day I shake the drawer, press the reset button and walk away. Takes 10 seconds. Still better than scooping turds

There is no one source. You really need to make google search your friend. Youtube has tons and tons of videos on HA as well as incorporating different devices etc. The idea is to get a sense of what will want to do and how well of an experience you will get from it. Stuff like camera ingestion, ai detection is resource heavy on machines and devices like the Green will choke so it's best to get an idea just how far down the rabbit hole you may wanna go early on than after.

#

once you have a solid list and still unsure, you can come in here and ask if the Green can handle this, or if your old laptop can handle that and people will have more info to give a more accurate response to

# young sigil HA see my Kodi boxes just fine.

I moved from kodi to plex because I got tired of trying to "teach" kodi to properly scan and tag files, and then having to go through like 12 different scrapers just to get it to KEEP scanning and tagging files properly

#

Also the interface for kodi may be beautiful, but it's also a Mess. XD

#

Tell you what I wish would happen. I wish someone would take the old WD-TV Live Hub devices, those set-top boxes Western Digital made for a while? Take that system and interface, and just make that the media interface.

#

Seriously, something I don't understand about kodi and stash both, if the wdtv saw a media file it couldn't tag or that wasn't in the perfect syntax or layout? It'd just... leave it as its filename but keep it visible. So you could fix it in situ anyway.

#

Meanwhile plex is like "NOPE THIS FILE DOESN'T HAVE ITS SEASON NUMBER ON IT EVEN THOUGH ITS FOLDER DOES, THAT MUST MEAN IT'S AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SEASON"

young sigil
#

I think I've only ever had to choose an alterantive scrape twice in my entire collection but I do agree the menu system is complete balls. I gave up on Plex many years ago when I couldn't stop it trancoding files it did not need to. Haven't looked at it since then.

#

The struggle on media interface nonsense is real.

#

Kodi: "We're gonna be the most elegant trainwreck you have ever seen. It's gonna feel like using a Wii if all the options were put in places the literally have no purpose being by drunk weasels. Also our scrapers for international content are ass and for some reason the option to allow them to search adult content just doesn't exist for some reason."
Plex: "Hey, you should use our agent for scraping instead of the two well known media site scrapers that pull accurate data in all languages. Why aren't you using our agent instead? Oh you turned our agent on? Let me now retag every file you have with incorrect data that makes no sense."

I'm a HomeKit user with an established smart home, Unifi networking who's decided to 'try' HA.. So I installed this on my Synology in a container (aka docker). My MAIN reason for doing this was to try to webhook into some matter devices... Instead, I'm stuck just trying to activate the matter (beta) plugin.

Could someone please point me to in the right direction?

Hi, question if someone happens to know;

If I update a file for a blueprint in place in the filesystem for the HA install, will the automations based on it change with that as I save the blueprint, or do I have to re-do the automations based on the now changed blueprint?

They let you try a new site design, but am I seeing it now? What would happen if I flip the switch off?

It's clearer (sorta) when you turn it off:

loud pike
#

Also one more point in the column for tuya, I can't tell you the number of times I find Amazon garbage that refuses to connect over a 2.4 GHz signal if there is also a 5 gigahertz signal present. You have to completely turn off that part of your network just to get the connection to work the first time.

Meanwhile, tuya stuff just connects right away and doesn't tend to complain about it.

clear ferry
#

This is why I have a dedicated 2.4ghz ssid

loud pike
#

That's the annoying part though. It will stay connected even if you turn the five gigahertz back on, it just won't connect the first time if it's on.

At this point it feels like our local importer is doing it on purpose.
The standing fan especially, in early-mid spring each year they seem to get a thousand or two of those, always sold out before summer arrives and never re-stocked.
The last time I bought one, their local store had ~50 in stock in the morning when I did an online pickup order, and 9 left by the time I went in to collect it in the afternoon.

if you were to look at "people involved in a plane crash" thee chance of fatalty is probably lower then you would think
