mmm tasty ram
I finally got the link up between my 100 and 800 G switches, and then I saw I needed to update them
now the link is down
so I've sent a mail to nvidia asking wtf
ooops
"this worked on cumulus 5.6 but after upgrading to 5.11 it does not work"
"please show us a switch where it works"
"the switch... is already upgraded?"
grrrrr
we got a good test of the new toronto DC a few days ago, too. New customer there dumped 22PB at us @ 350Gbit :D It's always nice to have new hardware not fall over for once
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I work on a 10x10Gbit connection across the atlantic ocean, fun to troubleshoot performance and tune for the data transfer
22PB is a good effort
It's a cute splunk datastore
it's enough of a test to get past caching :D
I rolled out a splunk datastore with 60PB a few years ago, that was fun
a few years back we were interviewing an external security consultant, and they wanted us to "port mirror all our traffic to them" so they could monitor it. They also wanted copies of all our system logs. It was pretty apparent they were used to dealing with corporate servers, not a cloud provider. Like, you want a copy of all our traffic? Okay, we're averaging north of 1Tbps currently. You want all our logs? Okay, we generate 6TB of them a day
LOL
they also asked how we'd handle it if we got DDoSed. My boss's answer was great "Well first, I'd be impressed, then I'd try to hire them."
A terabit of anything is a hell of an effort in any circumstances. We've managed it very briefly from compute to storage in our datacentre, and it's one of those situations where it really feels like the wheels are about to fall off.
Have had a few storage upgrades since then and I think we'd survive closer to 1.5Tbps but the steady-state throughput of 500-600Gbps is much more pleasant for all
yeah.. that 1Tbps is across 6 datacenters around the world, so it's definitely not through a single pipe, haha
Ours is just from one end of the datacentre to the other π
One site, single tenant, just a bunch of our stuff
nice!
working on the bleeding edge of technology is something quite different from what most people think of π like @clear ferry hints at - there are lots of bugs and tweaks when you push the envelope of tech that is way out there for most people. because when you start pushing the boundaries of even that tech you start discovering all those little(?) things that no lab testing brought out. like when we were running multi-PB file systems back in the nineties. Or when pushing the limits of 100 and 800Gb links today, and seeing how weird bits of aggregation, link balancing etc fall over.
we have just discovered that we have a problem with the default cooling setting on our HP servers... the SFPs are in the hot zone in the data center, and when the fans in a server are allowed to ease down because the server isn't under much load the sfp's get hit by the hot air from the rack across the aisle, leading to overheating and failure. π so we have to crank up that default.
hah! amazing
Had one of those recently too, but it was the server fans overpowering the fans in the in-row coolers and flooding the cold side of the rack with hot air blown through from the hot side.
This caused the servers' inlet temperature to be too hot, which made them keep their fan speed at 100%
was the airflow backwards?
Nope, just ~2.45mΒ³/s of server fans pushing one way and ~2.2mΒ³/s of the cooler's fans pushing the other
Pressurised the hot side
The great news is with their cooling set to the "efficiency" option instead of "performance", wind up using ~6% less power (~29kW/rack vs ~31kW) but achieve exactly the same performance
There was a lot of that in the early days of 10G adoption, first few chipsets we had to crank fans full blast all the time because the cards were in the back
these days cooling fins have really evolved
like the 800G SFPs are 90% cooling fins and 10% electronics

I installed a 800G SM the other day, think the guy said it was 35w power draw
laptop CPU there
and semiconductor nodes have becomes smaller and much more power efficient
The cooling fins must pull 31.5W then?!
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You say that, yet I install 450w CPUs and 35W SFPs, power go STONKS
Heck, a single 4U node these days pulls 12-14kW easily
yeah, because transistor count has also exploded for systems that need more compute
but if you compare a 10G switch today to one from a couple of years ago the power draw should be less
Meanwhile me over here with my little 500w PSU running my little 4u frankenbox that Probably isn't happy with me for running 16 bays and will probably explode if i populate all of them...
Also my little 1u gigabit switch that I got for free that for some reason has no SFP socks...
...and 3 ports populated out of 24.
One of them being the uplink. XD
(Yes, I do have an SFP capable switch, but it's a DIN rail mount and I have neither the power infrastructure nor the rail for that.)
like a while back I read an article about AMS-IX where they replaced all the network switches purely because the new models had such lower power consumption that they could downgrade their electrical connection, and they would recover their investment within a few years
Can't say I have installed a 10G switch in 10+ years, so hard to do so π
Efficiency matters, for sharks.
All 40g since 2011, all 100g since 2018, end ports all 25g since 2018 perhaps
Though sometimes the efficiency comes in other forms. Like, the fans that came with my server case? Loud as HELL. Loud fans equal Inefficient fans.
And heck, it is all 800g going forward now for all the AI installs
sharks?
And since thoe fans were running off of standard mobo 4pin hookups, they were not providing any additional power/air pressure over a quieter SP fan.
Openvms you say
For sharks. Dolphinately. Turtley.
dont know what that means
That sorta stuff is usually quite the no-brainer after a few years.
Looking at our current core switches at work, Arista 7280CR2A-60 (60x100G) from 2017, they're drawing around 1150W each (maybe 70% port utilisation).
The newest stuff we've bought, 7280DR3A-36 (36x400G) are at 380W (with ~20% utilisation).
Completely filled with spicy optics, would bet you're still under 500W apiece.
https://tweakers.net/nieuws/212544/ams-ix-vervangt-switches-door-juniper-en-verlaagt-energiegebruik-met-85-procent.html <<< found the article
< is being a bit of a dweeb.
And yes. Loud fans = Lower efficiency. Noise means your bearings aren't as good and/or your fan is fighting its own turbulence. In either case, the motor works harder and consumes more power to produce the same air movement. Get quieter fans.
Don't worry @loud pike Stefan has no sense of humor
networking equipment vendors love this too because it means buying their new stuff is a good investment lol
Oh, you guys will probably find this worthy of a chuckle.
Thrift shop near me the other week had a stack of AC Ubiquiti APs.
They smelled a bit like something had gone very wrong wherever they were last used, and I'm not downgrading from AX(also that level of power is MASSIVE overkill for my little apartment) but it's amusing they were there.
They're probably still quite usable - or at least the Qualcomm-based ones are, the Mediatek models were always turds - if AC is all you needed
Yuck, ubiquiti
sun would regularly crank up support contract prices for the really old equipment to a point where it was definitely a good investment to upgrade. and those poor sods who didn't dare touch that legacy system ended up paying through the nose if they wanted continued support.
@clear ferry is the tech version of this meme
I feel like anyone could mention literally any brand and someone would be like "yuck" here. XD
we have daily fights about SBCs vs mini pcs here
yup. like any wave after a passing boat is also energy spent making water move vertically instead of horizontally and is wasted energy.
...huh. That usually summons Missy. XD
i know someone with a tp-link deco mesh system, a few tapo cameras, doorbell, outlets etc. and she is happy so far within that closed ecosystem. hopefully it will all work with home assistant the day she is ready to upgrade.
Oh I like my TPlink stuff tbh. I just don't like that HA doesn't like my TPlink stuff.
(yes, there's a tplink integration. It 10000% does not work, it won't even connect up)
what stuff do you have
go ahead and fix it π
The Deco integration works(sorta, it's mostly just letting me watch the traffic numbers a bit), but the kasa integration absolutely does not run at all. So no bulbs, switches, cameras, etc.
When installing it, it doesn't install. Big error thingie.
I'll have to try it again so I can pull up the bug.
...okay who was gonna be the one to tell me that someone fixed it π XD
Sadly the cameras don't work still, but hey, at least the lights do now π
my isp's router automagically showed up through the upnp/igd integration, so i do also have perf counters there
not sure what i want to use those for in automations π
heh. Funny you mention that, my upnp integration is currently having a little tizzy with itself because the new update keeps not setting up right for it XD
(Mind you, it's only having a shitter over my cable modem and Not the deco. Score one for tplink I guess. XD )
aaaand now it works.
Clearly I need to go back to aggressive staple gun threats. XD
I think you want tuya for that
It still blows my mind that tplink cameras and eufy cameras Don't work with HA... but Yi of all things do.
(I have 5 of Yi's cameras in a box. I so hate that company that I will not plug them back in. They are a security Nightmare.)
I just buy whatever is the cheapest on ali that has RTSP
then frigate go brrrrrrrrrrrrr
you know what goes brrrr? the radiator fans on my pc when i run llm queries...
my laptop is currently going brrrrrrrr because I have 949 tabs open, plus 4858 terminal windows
and 4x4K monitors
Make fan speed a sensor. And make it part of how the llm feels
make tha fan speed part of the hidden layers, and it tunes its realism based on fan speed
suddenly even water cooling is noisy π
like a self controlled ... plug
My washing machines feeling is based on the weather
not even a joke. rainy weather -> dirty dogs -> dirty towels -> sad washing machine
today it is sunny and cold. frozen ground. clean dogs
but since it is sunny they keep poking me about forgetting work and go outside again
and now the magpies and crows have spotted us out in the garden and come asking why lunch is late
I thought for a moment you were referring to your feet for some reason when you were talking about dirty dogs in the rain and I was deeply confused.
Also my washing machines feeling is based entirely on my executive dysfunction because I absolutely can NOT keep on task if it kills me.
(I have a dumb dryer and washer because Apartments. So it does not tell me when it's done. And I regularly just... forget to check.)
Which reminds me, I'm gonna go turn the dryer on again.
this is what i mean by dirty dog. π
Oof, that's ruff
but look how happy
Oh 100%. Dogs are Weirdly thrilled with mess.
like any child
This is why I'm a cat person. He's mostly tidy, he only makes a mess of everything else. XD
cats have this weird fascination with fish though... does that work well?
XD Mine is only fascinated by foods if I'm eating them.
He likes his food, but he's so ridiculously social that he just wants to try everything I have. He does like pan seared salmon a lot, but he also likes mashed potatoes. XD
Dirty? I can still see white bits
Damn my laptop gui crashed on me. Stupid linux for not dieing completely. Removed guis and upgrade to trixie. Had it with plasma 5
Well installed
but i lost my home assistant widgets. due to cookie forget stuff of the plasmoid.
I haven't posted since the discord server revamp. I have a request for help and need to include code; prior to the revamp I created a thread for that. How should I proceed with this after selecting the appropriate support channel?
the support channels are "forum style" so you make a post in the right one
posts are basically threads
So the initial post can contain the code, and use the triple-tick to format it, right?
Yes, don't forget you can put yaml after your opening triple-ticks to get syntax highlighting
yeah, stick as much info in as you can/want better too much than too little
that worked well, thx peeps
Weather Update: The snow is light and fluffy, but nature snuck in a little bit of ice, making the leafblower method not very effective in snow removal
i'm going to pull out the snowblower later.. i was just hoping the much lighter leafblower was going to get 'er done
now if you've got one of those lawn-tool-attachment snowthrowers... it'll work in this no problem
not often, but i'm damn sure glad I have one when it does.. like back in the beginning of january
thats the 2nd best snow removal, after "fudge it, it'll melt eventually"
i am slightly smuggly satisfied seeing my neighbor who put down a ton of salt on his driveway has the same amount of snow as i do
yeah salt wont really stop snow settleing. its more for stopping ice forming
until there is snow on the panels and you got no power for the heating π
but i do see what your getting at
oh yeah, there are solutions. i was just poking fun
π
lol, theres no way his pool gets any kind of heating from that, it would loose heat quicker then his system could put it in.
but doing insane things is how he keeps people interested
Hm I don't think so
Oh lol
No wonder aperture went broke if everyone stole the tech ;D

thats pretty cool
when i see sims. i think "oh thats cool and would be cool to make" but i dont have anything i would actually want want a sim for
and then you can't angle them down again because of the snow dumped from the panel above...
if it is hypothetical then the snow falls only where it is pretty, not where it is impractical
Woo, external access set up. It's been a while since I did a ProxyPassReverse
Anybody having issues with trusted_networks auth? I just put it in my config and HA rebooted in safe mode cause it didn't like it. Got...
[31m2025-02-12 11:33:36.003 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.auth.providers] Invalid configuration for auth provider trusted_networks: not a valid value @ data['trusted_networks'][0]. Got '192.168.1.1/24'[0m

Not sure if this is the right place to ask that question so I apologize in advance
#1284966540617449515 might be able to help
I remember when that doofus tried to use water to cool a room full of PCs on a single loop.... and completely failed to understand that the only way using a coolant loop works is if it can compress and expand that liquid.
liquids can't be compressed...
Water can't be compressed. Plenty of other liquids can.
The stuff that your AC uses to cool your room works on that exact principle. It's also the same stuff in canned air.
AC is a gas at normal atmospheric temps
Kind of not the point. The point is that it should only be a gas in a very specific part of the machine.
to be fair water can be compressed as a gas π
I know what you're saying,
2 different types of cooling though evaproative vs conductive
And yeah, the world of refrigerants is fun. Like how smaller stuff like small fridges and window unit ACs can explode in a fireball because the refrigerant they use is literally propane. XD
When I was 18 in college I worked at a turkey processing place, they had an ammonia leak, my god that stuff is horrible
I thought ammonia cleaner was bad, it doesn't even compare
Meanwhile, TFE refrigerants(which are dope by the way) are so ridiculously stable that you can use them to clean dust off of electronics because they don't conduct and can't catch fire, and they're so gentle that they use them as a propellant in asthma inhalers. XD
Oh lord, I do not miss ammonia refrigerants. Some portable ACs still use that and it's nasty stuff.
Had a small home-depot portable AC up until recently, it sprung a leak a few years ago and I thought the cat'd done a mischief.
lol
(If anyone wants to spend WAY too much time learning about refrigerants and cooling and all that other stuff, there's a channel on youtube called Technology Connections which I feel like would absolutely be the speed of the average user here. Seriously, if he's NOT running HA, I will be shocked.)
oh that guy is addictive..... the dishwasher episodes are great
Fun fact, the ISS's thermal management system is ammonia-based. And yeah if Alec isn't using HA he should π
that's why most units that use propane are monoblocks
propane has much lower GHG potential than refrigerants such as R32
If you wanna see a REAL cool thermal management system, look at the james webb. Which is the same system used by the new shinkansen Japan just built(The train is done, there's one tiny segment of track not done because of a mayor being a dick).
Basically it's just an air conditioner.... in a tube... with a speaker.
I'm massively oversimplifying, but yeah, standing wave transducer in a closed chamber, compresses all the hot on one end, makes the trough of the wave very cold, place an evaporator and a compressor for two different loops in specific places in there and Boom, you've got supercooling.
they have low vibration requirements. So they sacrifice efficiency instead
Have you seen hyperspace pirate's YouTube series where he tries to make liquid nitrogen using AC compressors and an assortment of bodged up apparatus? It's hilarious and educational.
I haven't, but that sounds like basically the same idea.
And Japan uses the method to make a supercooling loop that lets a train run at roughly 500 kliks and hour cruising speed, so it seems to work XD
(Meanwhile, China's like "WE HAVE ONE TOO, WE'RE BETTER", and every picture they've shown is for the wrong type of maglev(active control), and has never actually been shown moving. And most of the clips they HAVE shown have been ai generated. XD )
I normally really like the zsh autocomplete/autosuggestion extensions and often rely on them to remind me what commands and arguments I used in the past so that I can just type a few characters and tab to complete. I also find it really annoying that it's happy to remember and suggest every single time I made a small typo and offers that up every time I make a similar typo at the beginning of a command π
The last time you misspelled "compose", you did it with this container. Is that what you want this time too?
I have a snowblower, haven't used it all year here in Minnesota, I make my kids shovel snow
I'm the meanist dad
Snowblower? Snowbarelyknower! (Badum tssh)
I just spent 2 hours shoveling out 2 of my neighbors along with my driveway. Open to someone sending me a snowblower for the next snowstorm.
Everyone ready for Voice chapter 9?
but you just gave the perfect reason for noone to buy one...
Of course!!
On the topic of PE and Voice Ch 9.. anyone using Ollama for a Llama 3.1 assist pipeline. Do you find that Llama 3.1 is just... Kinda dumb? I can pass the same exact command to Gemini and Llama 3.1. Gemini will work pretty much flawlessly 98% of the time. Ollama is hit or miss
Buy? I thought beta tests usually gave out the hardware for free? π
Yeah, I do. And I agree. I think Iβm going to try out the 8b version.
I believe Iβm using 3b right now.
But Iβm also going to try to fine tune the instructions for that agent, too. See if that helps.
I'm actually using 8B from the get go. Have a 7800XT on my gaming PC I wanted to try it out with. Runs lighting fast. But it's still been pretty disappointing tbh
Let me know if you try it and get good results. I wanna be all Local at some point in the future
I also have mine installed on my gaming PC lmao
I will ask Llama 3.1 if my office lights are on, and it'll open my garage door. I'm like.. what are you doing haha
Gemini laughs in Llama's face. Does everything I want most of the time
When using the Music Assistant addon to play Spotify music on sonos speakers, I am able to play something else on my phone/computer at the same time on the same Spotify account.
I have no idea how that works, but it does and it is pretty cool π
I noticed that it doesnβt seem to fully connect to Spotify but just syncs the content with it. I donβt know if thatβs how it works, though. Iβd have to ask Marcel.
π
Through some Music Assistant API key then? It has to get the music from somewhere and I doubt it auto-pirates it π΄ββ οΈ
Yeah, fairly sure.
You can set up a dev key from Spotify to get better quality bandwidth or something but I couldn't get it to work with my key. Now that I type this out, maybe it's because the key was linked to the Spotify integration first.
I have not used any keys or anything
I just added the music assistant addon
Clicked the connect streaming service button and authorized in the browser
Bing bang boom and everything worked
No issues at all
sqrl
A squirrel?
Better than SQLite anyway
Itβs a heat wave.
Them highs are good. I don't like them lows.
Itβs C. Iβm weird.
no you're just ascended above the peasantry.
π
Or some woke socialist commie
don't worry
we will switch the USA to C in a few years
~~because the heat will look like a lower number. /s ~~
"Don't worry global warming isn't real! look the number is lower!"
Itβs this. Always this.
I have to look on youtube to remember what proper winters feel like. Depressing
I'm moving to finland
I love cold
No, it's Finland
Finland has the good metal music
especially symphonic post-apocalyptic reindeer-grinding christ-abusing extreme war pagan fennoscandian metal
and they have the belzebubs. a comic about that kind of band. https://jpahonen.com/belzebubs
Also the phrase "room-temperature IQ" becomes so much more devastating in Celsius
Touche
Go nightly. I dare you.

for 6 months i ran fedora rawhide on my work desktop... so i guess i would be crazy enough
it brings up .2 notes
(im in the middle of a revamp, live fast, break things is my motto)
ah, i see it!
yep, i'm just a little blind
I'm working on setting up some MCP servers right now
Minecraft player server
still better than AMP
Everything is
MCP is a great protocol to work with LLMs if your not sure what im mentioning
anyone have any suggestions for a note taking app that will sync between ios/ipados/windows? I'd prefer something that supports typed and handwritten notes (iPad). I used to use goodnotes, but it's become a bloated mess. Apple Notes and OneNote are the only things that sync like I need (that I've been able to find anyway). Not particularly worried about price as long as it is good.
I've been using "obsidian", and it has a handwritten notes plugin.
And I've liked it.
https://obsidian.md/ You also don't have to use the subscription syncing for it if you don't want. (I just use a local folder sync, since I don't use it on my iPad). But at $4/month for the syncing, that's pretty reasoanble.
thanks!
Obsidian is great, I love it personally. Also, there's a git plugin for the really nerdy folks
That's amazing. i didn't know that. And it might be joining my pile.
Anyone got any good suggestions for a remote app that works across all platforms with decent performance?
RDP works between my Linux box and windows
Remote Desktop Can go from Mac to windows but not vice versa
Parsec can only host on windows and mac
Trying to remote desktop from windows to mac/linux
I considered just having parsec between mac/windows and using ssh for the Linux machines but I can't figure out how to run my services without them quitting
I tried (through ssh)
nohup script/run [params] 1</dev/null 2</dev/null & and a few other iterations but even just cd-ing out of the current dir stops the process
uhm... chrome had something like that
or something chrome-adjacent .. but it was basically an RDP for Chrome and as long as your had a functioning Chrome browser it worked
i've doen linux/windows with it.. should work with mac?
pretty sure that I used it from a Mac to a Windows machine
it was pretty great
even from an iPad, if I recall
I'll give it a go if I cant find an alternative. But I thought an internet connection was required to use Chrome Remote Desktop
Definitely works between Mac/windows/ipad. I have used it a bunch.
it used to somehow even punch through the firewall that my old company had in place, allowing me to get to my work laptop from other networks
NoMachine
Oke my debian machine is backup. I upgraded to testing. Plasma 6 everthing works. Rewrote my hass plasmoid widget Only need to configure the firewall. It blocked my voip chat.
is there by any chance an ubiquiti switch expert present? i'm getting desperate
and i need a few ideas on how i can narrow down the problem further
i'm not an expert, but do you have a thread going already?
Any Lutron Caseta ninjas in the house? Wanted to know if Diva/Claro smart switches can work with dumb lutron dimmer/switch in 3+way setups.
@gloomy canyon hit me
No, not a thread, I asked on the Ubiquiti forums. asking here was just a shot in the dark. and after all these years in the HA community, I felt like asking here....
@odd hill thanks. to sim it up: Upgraed my homenet with a Ubiquiti USW Flex 8 Port POE. My Truenas Server is connected to the SFP+ uplink via an DAC.
well this channel isn't for support, its for bs'ing .. if you start a thread in the support groups, many people cna look at the issue
the server sends to the 2.5G clients only with 70-100 mb/s. receiving is fine with fully saturated 280 mb/s
where are all the other clients connected?
@shell basalt yeah thanks. I know. asked in the UQ forums. will start a thread here if everyhting fails
flex as well?
yep
was afaraid it is a TrueNAS specific problem, booted a live iso and the same results
what's your drive config?
server1: sata ssd client: nvme ssd
how much ram on the truenas box?
16gb
24TB hdds, 1tb ssd
raidz1/2?
2
very similar setup to mine.
strange thing is, sending to server is all fine will full 2.5G
uhm...is truenas also connected to the network via ethernet on top of the DAC?
ah and multi stream works fine aswell
did nbot mention that
it's just single stream connection
when I use iperf with anything >= -R 3 all is fine with 280 mb/s
what's the other end of the iperf?
an Intel NUC 11th gen with a RTL 2.5G NIC
meant os
debian with proxmox
hum...
i would definitely not rely on wsl under windows for reliable results.
so...are you using the truenas for VM storage?
oooooh
nm. for a second i thought it might be a layer 2 vs layer 3 thing with it having to work its way up to the...are they on the same VLAN?
yeah, I have no vlans set so far
before the new ubiquiti switches my whole home network was running with gbit unmanaged 8 port switches
default, clients, servers, guest.
do you have a security appliance of some sort?
sitting above the flex?
or is that the only piece of ubiquiti gear you got so far?
nah bought last week 2 switches and 1 ap
...but no security gateway or dream machine?
nope I can't switch my cable modem sadly
...says who
security gateway/dream machine sits behind modem. don't need to replace it. and if it's a modem/router combo, just put that shit in bridge mode.
yeah that sounds like a plan, read a lot about pfsense etc.
you're getting like...a fraction of Ubiquiti's utility.
you have like a leg and an arm, and no brain.
yeah but the upgrade from 1 old nano hd ap to 2 aps and some switches is big progress π
i mean sure. but that's like saying you got a chassis, and four wheels, but no engine.
all true, got your point, but starting a new journey when I can't fix the switching problem sounds not that good
yeah. but. your gear isn't optimized and working in sync with a control node.
you're basically yoloing a blind setup without any of the gear working together.
see what? I did a million iperf runs π
so trying to fix this issue without being able to see how your gear is configured on a more advanced level is kinda pointless at the moment.
yeah got you, maybe I have to invest
yeah right now I run the unifi controller as docker container
yep
yeah sure, I think withour u cant manage SSID etc at all
shoot me your switch config so i can take a peek.
erm, just need to figure out how to download the config
just screenshot it in controller.
@tidal bronze time to move. you know what city this thing is going to hit.. there is no doubts in anyone's minds. https://youtu.be/bg0g-Fa6SsE?si=ir4bGKMYCxdT2U4g
The asteroid, discovered just after Christmas and named 2024 YR4, could strike the planet in December 2032 as it approaches during another journey around its orbit, according to NASA.

i'll help ya move to Texas
i got a flatbed trailer to haul your junk
been a while since I have lurked this wonderful place. having dramas with a custom integration (adaptive lighting) - whats the best support thread for that, given its not official integration (no idea how it hasn't been made one, its amazing)
#find-support can help, as can #1284976732428046461 π
That said, it's still an #1284966582375813201
mmm I think it might be time for me to move HA over to an RPi.. having it as a VM is nice but it sucks to have all the lights get stuck when the server needs work >.>
As long as that's not using an SD card π
(plus, if it were me, I'd buy a second hand small form factor PC and move it there, not to a toy)
tell us how you really feel about Rpis lol
small form factor PC isn't a bad idea, though, hmm
Performs better. More stable. More reliable. Doesn't have to draw much more power.
i personally like to run my ha on a pi 4 4GB. it boots from usb attached sata ssd to avoid any file system bottleneck, and compared to sd card it is nigth and day. it has been rock solid for years.
it is totally quiet, so i can have it in my living room attached directly into the fiber router. also on the same power circuit. so if the router is up the ha instance should be up as well. no dependencies on my other network gear. with the nabu casa cloud connection i don't rely on any nat setup in my router for access in, and with grafana and ssh add-ons i can use it as an emergency gateway in to fix other stuff, and i can monitor that other stuff and alert me on the companion app. for me there are valid reasons to run haos completely standalone. and the pi definitely doesn't have any performance issues for me since i got it off the sd card
i think the main arguement for mini pc now is that. once you buy a pi/case/ssd you are already basically at cost equivilent of a mini pc that has better performence
yes. i am not saying a pi is better than a mini pc today. but that there are good reasons to not build a mini pc that is equipped to run proxmox and loads of other stuff. consider running your ha standalone. there are valid reasons.
yeah, a rpi is fine but if your buying hardware today its maybe not worth it
also, a very experienced linux admin i know migrated from other ways of running ha to haos bare metal on a nuc because matter connectivity was a nightmare otherwise.
i agree that a nuc could be better bang for your buck today. just go cheap. 4GB RAM is minimum, but since a NUC style PC probably can pull more add-ons i would get more ram on a pc than on the pi. just don't over-spec it, and keep haos on bare metal. also get something that can run really quiet, aka very power efficient
we having this discussion again lol?
i think its over for now π
a mini pc is better bang for your buck. A pi is way more versatile. That's really all there is to it
instead of supporting evil minipc corp your support evil raspi corp
and if you want to run on a pi, be kind to yourself and make sure it has enough ram and that you boot it from a memory stick or ssd. do not run haos from sd-card. you will regret.
and thats full circle
π
i think that is really all there is to all the people having trouble on a pi. either reading the minimum supported spec for ram and thinking that is enough, or running from sd card. a2 class sd cards are better, yes, but better does not mean good. they are still lousy for running your os and worse for running a database. and as soon as a pi runs out of ram and starts paging from sd card - game over. there are lots of pi's out there that can do a wonderful job. do not discourage people from using them. don't tell them they should migrate to a pc if all they need is to migrate their os to a memory stick to boost it
but buying new? yeah. buy a nuc pc
but look at the HA green for example. It has worse specs than a pi 4 yet it's more responsive than my NAS. 4GB RAM is plenty
yes. 4GB is plenty. I rarely see more than 50% usage on mine, and i do have a few add-ons. back when i ran node-red it was really suffering, even if the ram usage was not a problem. that was when i went from sd card to memory stick, and the performance gain was incredible
I prescribe an 8G minimum
Though largely because k8s is unusable at anything below that
i have even seen people who wanted to start playing with llm's being told that they should get a new pc and run haos in a proxmox vm there and reuse the pi for running whisper/piper... NOOOO! keep the haos on the pi and use the new pc for the llm's. even a pi 5 cannot really do voice recognition fast enough to be comfortable.
I thought I heard someone talking about worthless SoC systems
just wait until you hear about OpenShift Home Assistant. only requires 5 servers to set it up.
3 masters and 2 workers. then you just add on
I love you
and of course a node outside the cluster to bootstrap it all

and at least 2 nodes outside the cluster to run freeipa, on prem gitlab, on prem registry with virus scanning...
and a few nodes for your logging infrastructure...
and some to filter your network port tapping
anything i am forgetting?
i think monitoring, alerting, ticketing etc can run inside openshift in a home lab
yes, and you can do cloud metrics outside if needed
can you tell i am used to working airgapped with nothing allowed to go to cloud ... π
that is how you can tell a good tech from a bad one, can he fix an issue on a darksite
even running on pi's that would cover a few Us of rack space π
any one know what OA# integration is?
whats the context?
Failed to load integration for translation: Integration 'OA#' not found.
in that context, could it have something to do with OpenAI?
an attempt to set up openai whisper and some edit error in a file?
Source: helpers/translation.py:226
what changes have you done since last reboot? and maybe this should be in integrations? it's not a water cooler topic really

not sure how long it has been in the log for
it's not creating any immediate problem? i would open a thread in integrations.
updated to the latest was the last thing done
I thought it was preventing login but apparently that was just a browser cache issue was stuck at loading data... but then clearing it fixed that
shift-reload is a reflex after updates of ha. π
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/weird-hanging-issue/813791/3
Maybe I will try to delete the music assistant and see if it goes away
Ian I do all updates when they arrive. I donβt however have the forensic programming knowledge to check where the issue stems from. I am considering setting up another HA and only adding in devices and integrations now required. Iβve been just bumbling along with this install for some years as Iβve been learning HA. Pat
Seems I fat fingered that into the configuration.yaml in front of something commented out when I noticed it said the formatting for salus was depreciated.
hit # and enter at the same time? π
always exciting when you get a "xyz is now back in stock" email π
low enough to get 3 for a projects and not feel too bad about doing so (assuming they work as i hope)
I asked in another channel as well, but I cannot seem to find the docker build logs for local addons. I am getting which line of the docker file is failing and the exit code of 1, but I need to see the error log to actually debug it. Where can I find it? (e.i. not the addon log, but the addon build log)
Please don't crosspost
You posted in the right place to get help, all of 45 minutes ago. A little patience π
lol. Fair enough
So now would be a bad time to ask for a job? π
Sorry for breaking rule # 7 ; )
Ping Missy for that
I'm sure they'll appreciate it /s
TECHNICALLY you can look to pay someone to help you out with a project in #1284960456880029707. π
hello the people
I've got no money to offer, so I think that is a perfect match! β€οΈ
Has anyone tried Runtipi? It looks like Cosmos is the more popular option
That just sounds like Docker compose with extra steps
yeah was just thinking that. how many ways of installing containers do we need?
Been a couple years since I used HA: Recommend a box to set it up on.
xbox
Oh I'm not using it for HA. I was gonna run some companion apps on it for groceries and recipes
And if you really want orchestration, do Kubernetes and git to deploy, update and version
ah ok. i gotta get deeper into docker

even I know docker
And that says something
I'm very much in my "there's so much room for activities" phase of selfhosting on proxmox
I keep looking for guides or youtube tutorials on stuff you can do on proxmox after you're finished with HA (for now)
I need to make my n100 sweat
Did you install everything through docker? Or did you use helper scripts too?
I gotta check out unraid
unraid to me looks like its deisnged for people who want a server but dont want to know anything about servers
i just run a basic server class os. like centos. and if i want a web ui i add cockpit.
hey thats me
but i keep my ha on haos. running bare metal on a pi 4. for reasons.
i havent messed with cockpit that much but when i have played with it it seems deccent enough. although it does seem to be "webmin but accceptable"
uses more modern technologies than webmin for sure
yeah but the concept of not just using the CLI
you can just use cockpit to open a terminal in the browser instead of using ssh π
fair enough
and it's nice to get a view of running containers and vm's. as well as network graphs and such
without setting up something like a full grafana. something i have just started on.
yeah, if it works for you then thats good
A big part of selfhosting is because free apps are disappearing. Just installed hoarder because omnivore is private/paid now
but most work is just from cli, yes. i even set up networks for virsh using xml files rather than through virt-manager π
Someone who knows where i can find support for music assistant?
the music assistant discord server π
Didn't found the invite link
I didn't see the option to create an invite there like I do on other servers
i couldnt make one so i copied the link missy posted in #1285154411114532935
doesnt matter whos invite it is if it works... right π
I assume. I asked there anyway
when i tried from the side bar i got a "ask someone whos promoted" error. probably a spam prevention thing
Marcel fixed it
prepare to watch the server grow!
i am going to move my production HA instance to one but i have other things to do before i allow myself to buy one and migrate. although probably will get a n150
Err what does this mean? Why am I not able to choose location here?
"These locations" ok
whichever locations you add
The text indicates that there should be a dropdown/select here
This is a modal, location is choosen behind it
Sometimes I post things on Bluesky and wonder how it gets so many likes and then I remember I have 3.5k followers.
Yes, I forget that sometimes.
shameless flexing of follower count over here π
I didn't ask for them. π©
I have Big Account friends who put me on Starter Packs and when they share them I get like 300+ followers at a time.
But this one really is just me shitposting about how cookies will fix me.
are they "special cookies"?
No, just large soft cookies. I am doing some emotional eating and shitposting my way through trauma.
not the first person to do this and wont be the last π
The novelty of them wore off quite fast for me.
not knowing it was a business when i first read that term i thought you were making donuts in the shape of your enemies and devouring them to exact revenge
That would be much better.
They do have a person shaped donut that they put pretzel "pins" into.
So they try to live up to their name.
But the donuts themselves are bland, you wait in line for a cute donut with cereal on it and that's about it. I'd rather just hit up Top Pot donuts.
Yeah, should be in #1284960456880029707

Both are trash lol
One benefit of the decline of malls and the takeover of online shopping has eliminated the siren song of the food court π
speaking of large, soft cookies and the like
I can't remember the last time I had a Cinnabon
but now I want one
thanks guys
Baltimore airport, 8 years ago
i had a couple of donuts at the airport in a moment of weakness after seeing someone else eating one
Weβve definitely shifted to more local = more better in the last 5 years or so. Ending the Amazon prime subscription was a great choice for us.
The grocery store my husband works at has essentially cake cookies - that's what I was stuffing my face with.
I might actually just eat more right now though.
Thatβs a fair complaint. I shop locally as much as possible but there are obviously some exceptions to that
I buy online for store pickup from those places (well, except I don't shop at Walmart or Best Buy, but I do this with like Home Depot and Michaels).
That way I don't have to wait for some employee who does not care about helping people to open a case for something that shouldn't be locked up.
that just sounds like a longer word for cupcakes
so cupcakes that are sliced into smaller things
I've been dieting for 1.5 months, these better look tasty
I hope I don't disappoint you then!
there's nothing new under the sun
a lot of places have an automated system that tells them to lock up stuff they have a high loss factor on (stolen a lot) so you can tell the level of desperation in areas by what is locked up.
LUSH marketing email, just now: GETTING WINTER SKIN ALREADY???
Bitch, we are almost 2 months into winter wtf.
So a lot of stuff is coming out that this just isn't true.
WHERE'S MY PICTURES
And the companies that do this are losing customers.
None of the stores here (that I shop at) have stuff locked upβ but I donβt shop at Walmart
I AM BUSY.
NO
the cake cookie IS A LIE
Speaking as someone who did retail tech product devβ this is true. It was a play to drive online sales.
i do get the feeling that it was something that was tried and perhaps abandoned because people that are going to steel will just steel something else
True=Missy is correct
Same here. I think the stories that I've seen typically focus on CVS, and then there was the article about CVS complaining that people buy less when stuff is locked up π
I'll take predictable consequences for 100, Alex
I just had a delicious avocado toast
Hey, we're in second winter here in the UK!
Rain
@fathom sparrow
Rain is the other season
Last year we skipped summer
I ate 3 of these for breakfast yesterday. About to do the same now!
those look like muffin tops
we only have Spring and Summer
These are mine. Thanks!
I have a weird one with some helpers? Where should I post my question?
those just look like cookies with too much flour
Fat shaming? Come on Petro
love me some muffin tops
the real ones and the figurative ones π
tickle tickle
Damn straight
I'll eat an extra cookie for you.
I can't buy this. Because it's gone in 5 minutes
You can still scan the barcode at the register to pay for them!
gonna ask this here and see who bites......
Any thoughts on allowing a custom add-on docker.sock location (as they are dockers)?
I may be the only one (pretty sure i'm not) but I run HAOS in a VM, and I keep my docker containers all running separately.
It would be handy/useful to tell HA where my docker.sock is and authorize HA to r/w
Just soliciting for thoughts π
I have no idea what my son is playing but I hear out of nowhere from the loft area: "SIR, I am going to have to ask you TO LEAVE."
I think he's in a role playing server in one of his games. π
That is clearly a water heater in addition to a water cooler, sir.
It could be inside the DOOR
Your fridge looks like it's smiling, but its eyes are waaaaaay too close together
-insert music here-
Our fridge is set up similarly, but we have a water dispenser on ours (left door). On the right door we have a paper sign taped to it that says "insert friends here". It makes the fridge look like it has a face.
One my my partner's colleagues has one of those stupid Samsung smart fridges with a giant-ass screen on one of the doors
Balances out the visuals a bit, but it still looks fucking stupid
does he play subway surfer on it?
It seems like an overblown spotify player with really shit speakers to me
Also that obnoxious "double tap to see the inside of the fridge on camera" feature
The best part about those screens is that the company who makes them is like on its way to basically bankrupting itself.
It and Walgreens are in this big litigation fight over the deal they made.
HOW DID YOU GUESS????
Turns out Walgreens lost like 30% of sales when swapping them out for the shitty screen varients
It's actually because they rarely work.
Apparently humans are uncomfortable wasting 30 seconds looking for the item they "already found"
that is the most stupid thing i have seen today. and i have been in 2 meetings at work...
Like, the things just stop displaying most of the time. There was a week long outage of the screens that no one would fix.
It's a hilarious mess.
or like it displays something that is out of stock, or prevents displaying inventory because it has a giant banner ad over it
reducing sales
or it displays something in a different location
or like any myriad of problems
But how else will you get ads to the people????
Think of the poor marketing teams, guys.
The goal is ad revenue and "dynamic price adjustments".
They're watching you, Brad.
one chain here got those. not buying gas there again
every. single. station. here where I live has it
Spam bots?
The dynamic price adjustments, yes. The advertisements don't work as well on those tiny fucking screens.
The fact that we are even discussing dynamic pricing is fucking ludicrous, though.

whilst you wash your hands. thats apprantly the purpose of this tap when it works
(My husband showed me a bad driver video yesterday from Reddit and I did literally this at his phone while the video went on.)
americans when they cant have ads everywhere
on gas stations
even in big stadium events

on the bright side... the tap runs linux
in violation with the licenses of software they use for sure
nvidia is bad, but it's not that bad
it watches you... to see if you are the kind that washes your hands before or after....
Nice to see they're using a 64 bit CPU, I guess?
ah yes, a fat CPU for ad delivery π€’
to be fair... imagine that as a HA dashboard in your bathroom. with your calendar/todo list for the day whilst brushing teeth etc...
internet of shit botnet material
just do a smart mirror. At least partially
saves waterproofing it if you got something thats already designed to be able to get wet
I got put on a mod list by someone on Bluesky called "Bored List Making Incels" because I put that person on my own mod list that's called "Artists/cosplayers who don't use alt-text".
The account is for a cosplayer who doesn't use alt-text. Maybe use alt-text and I won't put you on my list.

With VODXSβ’, advertisers and venues join forces to unlock a revolutionary opportunity. Together, redefine advertising with innovation, precision, and measurable success.
"untapped spaces"
i see what they did there
I have turned blocking ads into a hobby
why not just replace the mirror with a screen showing ads
you get 5 seconds of looking at yourself between a message from our sponsors
mirrors make people less angry. and ads make people more angry. rapid changing may lead to insanity
Insert that episode of black mirror where closing your eyes pauses the ads until you open them again to view the full ad
I think that I have run out of brain energy today finally. Today was much better than the past 2 days, that's for sure.
"episode" more like a reality preview
I think a yet-to-be-realized killer app for AI is identifying and hiding stories with clickbait headlines
Extensions used to be used for that.
My favorite extension was one that changed some word (I don't remember what) to "poop".
Exhibit A:
Love the down vote lol.
I also bet that photo isn't even her own.
I'm going to assume that the secret ingredient is Soylent Green and move on
then we just need an AI fight to the death
I guess that could lead to AI becoming too powerful and making humans subservient to it, but only after I'm gone, probably. The next generation can fight the Terminator war
Soon we will be able to have them yell at each other in Home Assistant. We're one step closer to this becoming reality!
VPEs talking to VPEs. It'll be chaos.
So I fixed up most what did not work (for now) and decided to make me a pretty network dashboard!
Work has an Observium pro license, and the creators don't care about people using their work license at home for learning / development, so I just have SNMP everything π
Helps being one of "those people" who uses enterprise hardware at home π
Unironically would
I mean a raspberry pi could drive all of those lights and spinny things, would make great decoration
But isn't it really noisy and costly to run?
Which piece?
My network? Or the UNIVAC there?
(because in the latter case, I'm saying take all the gubbins out and replace them with a low-power microcontroller / mini pc that just flashes the lights and spins the spinny things, for decoration)
You make it sound easy
With 3d printing and cheap electronics from aliexpress? T'ain't so bad
hehehe... taint.
I consider it something of a sport inserting words with two apostrophes into serious business communication
I resist the urge to use that one, but I definitely try to sneak y'all've in from time to time
all this stuff was too bright at night and the peripherals remain on without the computer because its 3 computers on a KVM switch
is there anything home assistant cant solve
although for some reason these buttons dont show the actual button as a sensor in home assistant so i had to watch for the event lol
It's like the Wendy's social account
"You guys suck and I'm going to be up front about that-- see you tonight"
Considering that they are claiming a Cybertruck driven by Drake killed the bird, I think they are getting a ton of people tbh.
I'm done with making things look fancy for today. And I still don't get why some integrations don't use the same icons that the source is using. Took me 30 minutes to change them to what Pi-Hole uses.
Router | | Pi-Hole | | Minecraft Server
hahahaha
I missed this lol
gold
And yes, I am absolutely serious, that is the canon, lol.
is it "a minooooor" claim?
Would be funny if Drake and Elon tried to sue π€£
That's a low-blow
They're just trolling the shit out of Drake, apparently. I have no idea why.
But it's fucking funny.
Not like Kendrick didn't absolutely destroy him on Sunday. π€£
I maintain that it was absolutely wild hearing an entire stadium of people call Drake a pedo on national tv
I bet if I told @celest apex that I wanted to troll the shit out of Drake by killing
he'd question my role here.
Question why you haven't been promoted yet
That's on him, lmfao.
tbf, I can draft up content and then share it with people before I even talk about doing it.
They'll tell me no.
(And they have!)
I need to figure out a good way to be that fun with our brand voice, though.
are you sharing it in the water cooler hahaha
It's never been this level of shitposting rofl. It's stuff that is way more corporatey than we actually are.
Because it's still hard to step out of that mentality sometimes.
The latest thing yeeted was some fluffy Valentine's day stuff.
You'll cuddle with a voice pe and you'll like it
A struggle cuddle, you say????
Settle down...
I'm making a fancy sushi feast for dinner, that is my valentines effort. My partner knows my feelings about arrangements of severed plant genitalia
is that like this?
Romantic and erotic TTS voices for the HA cloud subscribers?
also I just read the second part of this, what the f?!
I like the way you TTS me
omfg I'm dying
a voice pe in the bedroom with "oh god" as wake word and a deep voice...
How can I turn things around? I take these complaints seriously.
Does the bed also have an earthquake sensor?
Do you really have to worry about that?
Hello trying to integrate cheap SmartIR tuya based using local tuya. I have already built remote command set on Smart Life.
First issue: adding from local tuya I have to specify 0 in manual DP to complete integration procedure. Otherwise procedure stop. So not able to catch any ir codes.
Any kind help?
In #1284966582375813201 maybe.
Jinks
that's what happens when you have bots modding the server. they all respond instantly with the same response
Say potato π₯
can anyone give me a solid reason not to?
context: been running a single AC-PRO and google nest camera for years, moving into new place, need another AP but also I hate the nest ecosystem and want out. I have offsite storage to replicate NVR so I'm not worried about running local.
Another 30 bucks would give you a u7 pro with 6ghz for wifi 6e and 7
They are mostly stable now on 8.0.x
For the cameras id personally not buy them, they aren't that good for the $ you spend on em but if the ecosystem is for you then that's alright
What do you think flowers are?
Also your mention of sushi makes me want sushi. XD
I didn't think it was that subtle π
I just forgot to uncheck, def not getting it.
Just nvme right? I'm fine with that. Just 4x 2k cameras so even a tb gets me a couple days
I have one AC-PRO that I don't want to get rid of, from what I understand the jump from 6 to 7 is quite large and there are issues with devices favoring the 7 even when the 6 might have a better signal. Mixing 5 and 6 doesn't have this issue apparently.
Switching from h.264 to h.265 on my UniFi cameras made a dent in the storage use. More so on the 4k camera than the 1080p/2.5k though
Less Subtlety, more GIVE SUSHI
(I joke, but I'm picky about sushi. I live in America, where like 90% of sushi is.... not good. They forget that the word actually means something.)
If you're making your sushi with plain rice, you're doin it wrong.
There's an old security box in a hall closet with lines going all over the house, I'm using that to house the switch and run the cables to the cameras. This obviously has a few bonuses.
I've done the in-house server rack. I'm not about that life anymore. I could maybe do a wall hanger with a few Us in it, which was the original plan with the UDMSE, but I a. Can't be bothered with it these days, and b. There's no one good central place to put it in the new place accept an un-air conditioned garage which is terrible for a rack.
In other news, I was offered to review an outdoor wifi AP.... the brand seems entirely generic, the supposed range is 500m(no I do not need that), and it has an SFP terminal sock, which.... I mean, sure.... I turned them down because I have literally no use for this ridiculousness.
(Also the company astroturfs like nobody's business and I have no desire to contribute to that in any way)
Also I live in a 1200 sq ft apartment. I have literally no purpose for that much range. XD
Hell, my deco kit came with three routers.
I use one.
Lol, there is no way an 802.11-based system can usefully do 500m in PTMP mode
Yeah, considering how poorly reviewed the company's other gear is, I'm definitely calling BS.
Even PTP at that distance is stretching things
But no matter how much antenna gain you apply, there are too many issues with devices being that far away from the AP
lol my old man's was set up that way too. He wanted to live in the middle of nowhere. So every time the wind blew and wiggled the dish pointed at a water tower on the horizon, his net went out.
We had a colleague who was in a semi-rural area on P2P wireless internet. He used to get severe rain fade in any kind of stormy weather

Not sure what is causing it or where to begin looking.

I tend towards preferring things like from shelly or etc for mains stuff as well..
Just tried out the new phrase to text. Said "Turn off Russell's Bedroom Lights", to which it understood as "open curtains in Kitchen".
I finally have a bit of time and I'm getting around to ordering the home assistant voice π I'm so excited π
I'm also getting the raspberry pi ai camera and I hope to connect my pi5 with my ha server. I can't wait to see what fun automations I can cook up with this π
frigate is the more easily usable prooobably..
Ooh thank you ive double checked and I realize I misunderstand what the satellite integration was. I thought I was a flexible means of hardware expansion π€
half the time i ask google assistant (in norwegian) to set an alam at 22:45 it will answer me in norwegian and do what i asked. the other half it will answer me in english (even if the transcript of my request is clearly in norwegian) and set the alarm at 02:45. when it speaks english it has no idea about 24 hour clock it seems.
that's google assistant on my pixel 9 btw. nothing to do with ha
advanced tech sometimes struggles with the logic to even bother messing with a substandard language and clock so you get those hiccups
i agree. their norwegian persona is obviously smarter than the engish speaking one.
That is because you have it set to american english
set it to the queens english
and it will improve tenfold in intelligence
π€ so if we switch the language in this group the whole community will get smarter?
If it kicks out the yanks
probably yes
no offence to @lone dagger you count as 15 yanks

we always had a "foreign" section just that paticular thing has grown
tv? how would they get the smoke signals into the tv?
foreign section? you have had food from the other states? wow...
a lot of stuff doesn't make it past the fda
kentucky fried chicken in missouri, don't be ridiculous
your mouth watered when you typed that. do not lie
the same fda that seems to allow everything that is banned in the rest of the world? weird.
only banned cause you get the "foreign" versions lol
thats a weird "freedom" to not choose you got there
ahhh. are the american versions of those chemicals not dangerous, or are they just not dangerous to americans?
there is the US stuff then there is international lol
they weigh like a horse of course they can deal with more toxins

-# looks at atx

and they have a shorter life expectancy anyway, so long term effects are not a big issue
shorter lifespan?
getting shot at the ripe old age of <20
i think that pulls it down
but then its actually just evolution for bullet resistance
your females live 3 years longer.. but not the men lol
expect evolution to kick in any decem millenniuum
maybe it'll help them slim down again so the target size reduces
seems you are behind for both male and female
in norway it is 81 for male and 84.2 for female
times change
soon we will surpass
π
dunno what your laushing at. your only 2 years ahead
murica will soon catch up with albania. that's something
our number will change to an x cause of immortality breakthroughs.. you watch
Your assumption that'll increase over the next couple years
I wonder if Japan has Pilk.
is that the soda with milk abomination?
yea tiktok people and lohan like that stuff.. pretty much all that needs to be said
immortality treatment? you need a more expensive health coverage for that
health coverage is actually being addressed
it's the other shit like dental and eye that needs to be looked at
In which way?
Immortality treatments are just bad plastic surgery and hubris. That one guy who's been injecting young people blood or whatever is gonna die horribly and he will not live a long life and it will be Hilarious
is that one of those ones where they do something silly and take it to a mechanic to record their reaction?
it's real.. didn't you see the thing on the two rats?
Oh no
They just try to kill the car

chaos
if you are talking about spread coverage the ACA has been working. In terms of "better" coverage there are newer plans cropping up that have been absolutly great. like surest

idiots like that need to be ignored
almost right up there with those prank videos
yeah in general i would agree
Several vehicles struggling to drive in the snowy conditions have caused a miles-long traffic jam on Interstate 5 in Southwest Washington.

LOL
The fuck... those pickups are rear-wheel drive? I'd expect front- or all-wheel drive. Even the giant trucks are doing better π
yea in Washignton too to boot.. who the hell doesn't buy at the very least an awd vehicle that far north
Exactly. The weather doesn't get as bad here but you still see all the RWD cars struggle with the tiniest bit of ice. If you live somewhere with regular, deep snow, you go AWD and keep a set of chains.
Although it is funny watching the BMW drivers fail
Winter tyres (or at least all-seasons) also make a hell of a difference
not many american's bother with swapping out tires
Not many brits do either, sadly
we just buy all terrain and call it a day
Most drive around with summer tyres and wonder why grip in the winter is bad
I've never switched tyres. But unlike most drivers, I know to drive in a lower gear for less torque when traction sucks π
Even now that we have an EV, it has a low-power launch thing to pull away on ice.
I fit all seasons, it's just easier given that we're out in all weathers
ev's are much heavier. imagine that alone would help
running theme here that tire companies love EV's lol
I did see an immortality treatment on mice.
In a television show.
Mice, as it turns out, are not human beings.
yet
As for EVs weighing more, they do weigh a little more, but here's the thing. You put significantly less wear on your brakes by using regen braking more(letting the motor do the braking), you never have to pay for an oil change, and like 100 other maintenance faults that don't need to be done make up the cost as well.
Even the battery being "OMG YOU HAVE TO REPLACE IT EVERY X YEARS" is largely nonsense. Unless you buy a tesla, those are notoriously crap.
but when something does break you are sol
Most other EV makers use separated cells for the batteries, so if a single cell breaks down, the battery can be serviced with a replacement cell rather than a replacement full battery.
And yeah, if a Tesla breaks, you're DEFINITELY SOL because their service centers are arse and never have parts. Most others? Not really an issue.
For reference, this is a battery with the shell off from an Ioniq 5.
Every one of those black blocks can be disconnected and swapped. So if one of those cell blocks fails? Swap it individually, problem solved.
For comparison... this is a Tesla.
good luck finding a mobile mechanic for that
All those huge cell groups? Are fused together.
In some of them they're fused in place as well.
The only thing a mechanic needs to drop a battery in an EV is a cart, a lift, and an electric driver.
Lift car, cart under car, drop car until it rests on the cart, disconnect the mains plug and the cooling loop, unscrew, lift car off battery, donezo.
EV's are kind of losing traction here
Seriously, getting an EV battery out is stupidly easy compared to, say, getting an engine out. XD
the news stories of them stuck in parking lots during cold weather did not help lol
