Hello all! Anyone know if there's a HA plugin / whatever for Blue Iris? I have a Blue Iris machine, and I don't really want to have 2 streams connecting to my camera, plus, some of the cameras are chinese-based, BI connects to them fine (because it's awesome) but I worry about HA attaching to them. It's not really necessary, but I was just wondering if such a thing existed.

heh.... gotta get that physX card tho. XD

peak slate
#

I do have a few PCI graphics cards in a box

#

Oddly useful from time to time

grizzled gull
#

AGP was prior to PCIE...

loud pike
#

I feel like AGP was earlier than PCI-E.

#

Yeah, that.

loud pike
peak slate
#

I always thought they were around the same time and could even be found on the same board

grizzled gull
#

it was a step up from PCI 33mhz

peak slate
#

I never owned a machine with agp, kinda skipped in there

grizzled gull
peak slate
#

Had an agp card though that I gave to a friend for his machine (got it free)

loud pike
#

One of the last full boards I owned with AGP had 1 AGP slot, 5 PCI slots, and 2 E-ISA slots.

grizzled gull
#

omg ISA the the slots were white if I remember right

loud pike
#

PCI was white, ISA was black, usually.

#

ISA were the slots that were ridiculously long.

#

well, E-ISA, but yeah

grizzled gull
#

Is that what it was, ISA was used for sound cards weren't they?

loud pike
#

ISA was anything you wanted it to be, just like PCI, it was just an expansion standard. But it was one of the earliest and it suuuuucked XD

#

(That said, I DID have an e-isa sound card... until it became impossible to get drivers for it.)

grizzled gull
#

I thinking what I used ISA for though, I think it was for like a sound blaster 8 bit card or something...

loud pike
#

Behold. My first sound card. XD

grizzled gull
#

its been 20 years since I even read anythign about ISA

loud pike

okay not QUITE the one I had, but close. Same basic shape. The Gravis Ultrasound.

iron granite
loud pike

Back when, if you wanted to play Soundblaster or Adlib(that used to be a thing), you had to run SBOS in DOS to get it to work properly. XD

grizzled gull
#

Remember having to make bootdisk to ensure you have enough ram, the first 640k or whatever?

loud pike
#

And Yup. Gamepads ran on midi ports. When they ran. XD

loud pike
#

"This one is for tie fighter, this one is for this other game, this one is for this one..." XD

simple gazelle
#

I stuck on the Amiga for too long, you sometimes had to disable extra floppy drives (or the HD) to get a game to boot, as the buffers the BIOS allocated would eat juuuuuuust enough memory

loud pike
#

PFffffff that reminds me of IRQ fuckery XD

#

"Your system can recognize a total of 16 devices on IRQ channels. And no more. If you have more, it will make them both stop working."

#

That alone is why I laugh when people say they miss the retro days of PCs. Just that was enough to make me scream. And some viruses worked by duplicating drivers just to flood out the IRQ channels.

grizzled gull
#

oh I miss Tiefigher,

loud pike
#

It's on steam. XD

grizzled gull
#

its NOT the same on modern hardware

#

I don't miss teh game persay I miss the age I played the game

loud pike
#

hehe.

#

I miss playing it on the best joystick I ever had. A Saitek Cyborg 3D.

#

Which I'm pretty sure was the first USB joy stick. But it had four axes, and I STILL have mine.... it does not work properly anymore. It drifts like Hell. XD

grizzled gull
#

I want to say I played tie figher with a mouse

loud pike
#

GLORIOUS. XD

grizzled gull
#

Xwing vs Tiefighter required a joystick though

loud pike
#

(Not gonna lie, half the reason I keep it is because I'm trying to find the old EGM or Game Informer mag that reviewed it where the reviewer called it "C3P0's Strap-on" XD)

grizzled gull
#

I remember thinking in highschool, wow things are so realisitc, how could they get better....

loud pike
#

heh.

#

Though to be fair, they really haven't done a space fighter like tie fighter since. ๐Ÿ˜›

#

Full in-cockpit with dozens and dozens of things on the playing field. Now we get Starfield where the most enemies you can ever face in space is.... 3.

grizzled gull
#

Squadrons?

loud pike

Did they ever finish that one? I remember hearing about it during development, then never hearing anything else again.

#

Seeing it on steam. The reviews are..... well, exactly what I expect from an EA title. XD

grizzled gull

"Hello. We are two people who have been trying to murder each other across the literal multiverse. We will now stand shoulder to shoulder not even giving each other dirty looks while we wait around for you to make a decision."

grizzled gull

X-wing alliance was fun too

#

different persepective if I remember right

I mean, it was basically the same game, just your character is different is basically an author-insert for the leadup to the movie's events. XD

grizzled gull

These days I play valheim a lot. Really love that game, especially with friends

loud pike

#

Man, all this talk of expansive space sims with ridiculous stories that go on for hours on end makes me miss Freelancer.

grizzled gull
#

I remember when Elite Dangerous was supposed to be new thing...

loud pike
#

A game where you KNEW it was the future because someone's cigarettes were Blue. XD

grizzled gull
#

it was TOO realistic...

loud pike
#

By the way, one of my favorite stupid glitches ever in a game in Freelancer XD

lone dagger
loud pike
#

It locked the actor progression to sound files. Which makes sense, you want a speech line to finish playing before the thing they're saying is about to happen happens.

#

Trouble is... some files were encoded in different codecs for... some reason.

#

So if you had certain codec files? The sound would never play.

#

So you'd warp in, there'd be three ships there that are supposed to go hostile and get mad at you... but they just..... stay there.

#

And at that point the game is basically locked XD

grizzled gull
#

it was marketed as being ultra realistic especially physics, I can definitely believe people have made it ultra realistic

static schooner

not the same thing, I know

the speakers in those are so much better than the one in the VPE. that's the part I miss

loud pike
#

I think I've ranted about this before, but letting the server have a simple reroute-what-would-go-to-that-smart-devices'-server-to-a-virtual-version-running-on-HA thing would make forcing integration for so many smart devices(googles included) so much better...

#

Also might be nice for making the Alexa screens not so bloody intrusive and obnoxious.

#

Mind you, the tricky part would be maintaining other features like drop-in, package tracking in real time, etc.

dawn badge
loud pike
#

I wonder if there's a way to just hijack the bluetooth speaker part itself.

simple gazelle
# loud pike GLORIOUS. XD

As a lefty I appreciated the reversible grip and throttle, though I only got one in time for Alliance. God those games got hard.

loud pike
#

With Google's stuff, you can use it for outbound things with play-to, but I wonder if you couldn't be set up to play the "response" audio to the speaker while just using the VPE as a microphone.... or if there's a way to set up the play-to to be able to both play to And listen from...

#

And I know Alexa's speakers are all bt capable. I wonder if a bluetooth adapter could be used to let a server or a device on the server take control of that speaker and turn it into a semi-smart speaker.

static schooner
#

I would be happy if I could just use the GHM as a wired speaker for the VPE. I could use it as a separate media_player, but that's too complicated

loud pike
#

Huh. Brain's doing that thing where it has too many ideas. I clearly need coffee.

#

(bluetooth controller for HA would open up some smart devices that use BT for... some reason... and also let you take control over all those non-smart bluetooth speakers you have lying around collecting dust for smart home things...)

#

That first bit is not a joke by the way. I was sent a box of smart bulbs to review. They aren't wifi. They aren't zigbee. They're Bluetooth.

#

And apparently echo devices can link to bluetooth things. So there's that.

deft pewter

Bluetooth is a PITA because everything uses proprietary protocols. That's not something easily solved by a 'controller for HA' sad

If you are switching from another CC26xx Zigbee adapter, in most cases, you do not need to repair your Zigbee devices if you follow these steps:

  1. Shut down Zigbee2MQTT/ZHA and power off your previous Zigbee coordinator.
  2. Power off all your Zigbee routers for at least 15 seconds. You can do this at once by turning off the electricity in the whole building.
  3. Power on back all your Zigbee routers.
  4. Power on your new SLZB-06/06p7 or 06p10 adapter.
  5. Start your Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA.
  6. It may take some time (e.g., 5-10 minutes) for your Zigbee devices to come back online again with the new Zigbee coordinator.
If this does not work, please change the IEEE address of this Coordinator to match your previous Coordinator and repeat steps 1 to 5.

I have been using the generic camera integration to stream an rtsp feed from my nvr. I have an automation set to take snapshots every 30 minutes to create a time lapse. It misses allot of shots and the trace says connection timed out. Is there a better rtsp integration i should use. My cams are h265

Hi guys! I have a question about connecting speakers to home asisstant. I have an old Echo hooked up, and I am running automations on it, and it works to say things like "KIDS DINNER" when the wife presses a button. we are actively planning how to reduce our vmware footprint dramatically after their licensing shenanigans now that broadcom is in the drivers seat. we actually had to go the legal route to fight the new prices they tried to slap on us.

#

i did have a lorawan gateway up and running for a while. i'll have to see if i can get it up and running again.

#

it was a ttn node

ocean oar
#

Mine translates to MQTT, sends its data straight into HA

#

All local ๐Ÿ™‚

stuck anchor
#

i thought it could be nice to offer a ttn gateway here that could cover the local wooden yacht club. enable lorawan based sensors aboard the boats

#

since for some reason the board decided they did not want to build out wifi coverage

#

but i think they may be rethinking that decision now. so maybe we can get wifi with a outdoor antenna pointing in the direction of the boats

ocean oar
#

What sort of distance do you need?

stuck anchor
#

if they do go for wifi subscription in the club house (would make life easier for presenters at meetings, etc) they would need 50-250m (so those furthest away may need a repeater mounted in one of the boxes for electrical outlets)

#

for lorawan i think it would be just 700m from my house

ocean oar
#

700m is cake easy for lora, 250m is pushing it for wifi

stuck anchor
#

exactly

#

but wifi may be easier to get to grips with for a club where the mean age of the members is above 60

#

i am 60, and i am one of the young ones

ocean oar
#

I have an outdoor WiFi AP with a directional antenna (rated 8dBi@2.4GHz, 10dBi@5GHz), it provides perfect signal at 30-50m, and just about usable at 100m.

#

Given a ludicrous amount of gain you might be able to push those kind of numbers, but WiFi starts to get pretty unreliable (hidden node problem, and all that) at distance

stuck anchor
#

i was thinking pull a poe ethernet cable along the electrical cables out to a box 150m out and set up a mesh node there

stuck anchor
#

find one 100m out then ๐Ÿ™‚

#

we have a handful of those boxes along the shore to offer power out to the boats. but they are metal, so might need mesh nodes for outdoor use and/or with support for external antennas

dawn badge
#

better running fiber and power instead of poe if your talking 100m+

#

you could use point to point directional atennas to get the range and then mesh on other side i guess

wraith sapphire
#

Canโ€™t get out of the-water-cooler

stuck anchor
#

that is a good option. power is, after all, available in those boxes, but they are connected to power measurement so that we can charge the users. i don't know if there are any non-measured ones in those boxes

#

first they have to decide to get that wifi anyway. i think it's a no-brainer

#

then start with a directional antenna in the general direction of the boats on the club house wall

dawn badge
#

put in another tracker in for your equipment and then just credit that back to them?

stuck anchor
#

that's what i thought could be a workaround

clear ferry
#

They aren't HP-UX systems from 1996 ?

desert cave
#

haha.. thankfully not that bad, but definitely problematic SPOFs

#

at least we're getting Eng time this year to move away from them

clear ferry
#

nothing is quite a good a SPOF as a SPOF in critical infrastructure

#

I know an airport that has a french system for landinglights, it cannot run in HA, so they have two servers, one is on, the other is off, and I'm pretty sure they have never tested the second server

desert cave
#

hahaha

clear ferry
#

or like when I was working with a railroad system and they had a firmware bug that was failing HDDs randomly, without reason, and I told them "you need to patch these systems, because we can't replace two drives a week, and you are running unsupported versions"
"we cannot patch, we cannot afford downtime"

So I gave them 3 months, and they still refused to patch, so I told management to cancel their support contract, no more drives for you, enjoy your downtime

desert cave
#

yeaah.. we have a single server in each datacenter, that if it goes offline, no customers can write data to that datacenter, because one of the founders 15 years ago hated databases, and insisted on using flat files instead. (that's the thing we're moving away from, thankfully)

clear ferry
#

LOL

#

#

(sooo much tech debt)

clear ferry
#

don't come here with your logic @ocean oar next you'll tell me that we had cloud before 2012 and data lakes are just fileservers without any structure

desert cave
#

in our case, flat file database means 100-200TB of text files sitting on a ZFS pool >.>

clear ferry
#

that's only half a diskshelf

desert cave
#

well, they are on pure SSD, but yeah.. it's a single disk shelf each basically

ocean oar

Even on SSD, I bet that's fun for performance
