i got two really hefty servers from work along with a switch they can talk to. but at the other end that switch supports no less than 10Gb, so had to replace the switch that connects the server bits to the rest of the house with one that had 10Gb uplink ports

true story: many moons ago there was a vendor in the uk who would beat any other vendors on price. so they attracted lots of enterprises. they had incredibly good service as well. when a drive failed it got replaced often same day.

too good to be true? then some customers started doing the math, and found MTBF to be way too low on their drives. and eventually someone looked into the firmware. turns out the firmware would create failures so they could come and swap the drives. and uk law back then was such that if you owned the drive you also owned the data on it. so they could copy it off and sell it to your competitor...
