i have a question about smart homes for anyone who knows better than me if i get an smart rgb led strip can i cut it into certain sizes that fit the places i want and turn one light strip into 2 seperate light strips that i can control seperatly ?

you need a controller for each "strip" you plan to control independently. some controllers can have multiple outputs for that purpose. you can cut strips but there is a whole thing about min/max and power being fed to led strips. I suggest look up as many tutorials as you can, there is no shortage of people making content based off comparing led strips and usage etc

in theory, that's one of the environments thread should be able to do better than zigbee with, since you can have a "single" thread network with multiple partitions and separate thread border routers for each, but need more good-quality devices available to use with thread before that's really worth setting up :(

Some Aqara sensors that are only Zigbee 1.2 have issues with some routers, as they kick the sensors off after some time. If you have one of those sensors, you can try to only allow joins through a a specific parent router, reset the sensor, and let it re-join. (no need to remove from HA)
If it still falls off, repeat the re-join procedure with another nearby router, ideally from a different manufacturer.

This usually works, although, sometimes for whatever reason you just have to pair them multiple times and then they will eventually stay connected. I just recently swapped my coordinator, paired a door sensor to a known router I had used before only for it to fall offline. After pairing it to the same router 8 times, now it's connected and has been for a couple weeks. Sometimes the older aqara sensors are just odd.

I've also found that replacing the battery often helps, I test them with a multimeter now, the self reported battery levels seem to have little basis in reality.

Quick question: How does one usually "wake up" a battery powered Zigbee device? The manual does not say how to, and two of my temp sensors that are closer than any of the others (read: not a range issue) are seemingly dead now

Yeah, that's normal. LUMI is just the manufacturer name most Aqara devices use. I think it's still left from the Xiaomi days.

Reconfiguring in ZHA won't really do anything for sleep end-devices and rarely anything for Aqara/Xiaomi devices.

Pressing the button on the sensor forces it to send an attribute report (to ZHA). You might see an entry in the logbook if it works.
Holding the button resets the sensor and will make it re-join the network if you're on the pairing screen. You don't need to remove it from ZHA for this.

If the sensors were on the network for a few hours at least, you should be able to see the parent device in the ZHA network visualization. Check to see if it differs for the working and non-working sensors.
