what hardware are you using for your frigate?

#

my issue could also be the N100 16gb not being fast enough

static schooner
#

The same N100

#

Also running like 20 other things

forest edge
#

maybe it's just the remote connection then

#

guess i'll know for sure after I switch myself and my mother to google fiber

#

Is there not a 'help' channel besides threads? Is it a diff Disc?

weak musk
#

No. Just threads.

#

It keeps the conversations organized and helps people’s topics not get lost in a flood of messages.

weak musk
#

Make a thread. This is not a quick question.

I just don't like to be "warned" about updates in the very same way I get notified about a potential threat (wrong login)

#

I know rooLurk

#

Why would either of these be on "Einstellungen"?
Is that some apple idiocy?

dusky plank
#

because thats where they pop up, noob

#

well, wrong login gets shown 1 icon above, but in the same style.

#

so its HIGH ALERT. on every update.

#

I now block the badges in browser, its annoying

forest edge
#

updates pop up under settings not notifications

#

so I was right, your shit is possessed lol

dusky plank
#

That screenshot shows settings.

#

D‘oh

dusky plank
#

Is what i said

forest edge
#

you compared it to high alert which makes no sense

#

since the two are diffrent lol

dusky plank
#

Bottom left is the same position i see badges. Just because its two different icons doesn‘t make it better

forest edge
#

you rather there be no number indicator of something new?

dusky plank
#

No, let me turn off badges on the settings element

forest edge
#

yea I don't see that happening lol

dusky plank
#

I care about wrong logins and want to be notified with persistent notifications there. Thats alright

#

But a fricken card update is very much not on the same level

forest edge
#

well you could do something special for persistent notifications and just ignore the bottom left all together..

dusky plank
#

Yeah I can also just tell my browser to ban the badge on settings

#

Which i now did

forest edge
#

seems kind of extreme lol

dusky plank

MUCH more pleasant

Its unbearable when you have 3759957 custom components

I have all zwave devices (using ZWave JS UI interface with MQTT Gateway option disabled) and zigbee devices using ZHA. is it possible that I do not have MQTT?

#

it seems Frigate needs me to have a MQTT set up, but I am trying to make sure I don't already have one

There's an easy answer

#

Have you checked to see if you've set up any MQTT integration?

tardy tulip

I do not have the "MQTT" integration set up

As an observer to many of your topics, the main theme I see in them is that you don't want to learn the concepts. It seems like you're waiting for people to post full solutions that you can just copy/paste. oof. hard lesson this AM. woke to my HOAS unresponsive. Dead SSD drive. I thought- "No Prob! I have a spare drive! I'll restore from backup and be back in no time. <checks backup folder on NAS> last backup: October 25th 🤦‍

#

seems the daily backups were going to the internal drive. 😛

#

so, when restore is done, first step is gdrive backup install! 😁

hot ridge

Good reminder for me to check my backups

hot ridge
#

I checked mine and my samba backups are working.

ember heart
#

I wish the tar files were preface with like HAOS_<number>.tar or somethihng.. tracking down the newest backup was kinda a pita since the backups are all <some number>.tar and I changed targets a few times

hot ridge
#

I should probably add some grafana alerts to watch the backup disk to make sure it keeps getting more backups.

#

Luckily samba backup does that for me. Samba_Backup_2024_12_12_05_00.tar

primal laurel

ember heart

I never looked into how it was named... I just went with whatever the default was 🤔

#

just seems the default should be something more descriptive than random digits...?

primal laurel
#

idk. everything important is in the meta data of the file already

ember heart
#

when doing a file search on 200Tb arrays having a pattern to match like HAOS*.tar would have been nice 😛

I am pretty sure I found the most recent backup but I am not %100 sure 😛

I mean .. I assume you put your backups into a specific directory and the modified file time would tell you anyways?

ember heart
#

yup. I plan to do that when I get back and running. the restore is taking a bit of time since it was a partial backup so I guess it is assembling bits and pieces from the last full+ partials..? I guess..?

#

also all my ESPhome things around the house are flashing at me and have been doing resets like every 15 minutes or so which has been.. fun..? O.o My xmas lights in the living room keep blinking on when the esphome controlled power strips hit their reset point

#

gotta do some updates on esphome for my wall switches to make them more robust in the face of a loss of HAOS I guess...

primal laurel
#

I haven't updated my esphome devices in years so now it's so outdated I can't even do OTA updates anymore

ember heart
#

I have tons of ESP32 based devices all over and do ESPhome stuff almost daily. I'm having fun making gadgets.. love the little OLEDs and sensors and sound and stuff so I play ESPhome all the time. 🙂

primal laurel

hot ridge
#

Sounds like you're hitting the reboot_timeout in ESPHome which defaults to 15 minutes.

ember heart
hot ridge
#

reboot_timeout (Optional, Time): The amount of time to wait before rebooting when no client connects to the API. This is needed because sometimes the low level ESP functions report that the ESP is connected to the network, when in fact it is not - only a full reboot fixes it. Can be disabled by setting this to 0s. Defaults to 15min.

#

You can just configure it to be higher or disable it

"LordOfLevels has Entered the HOME zone! Turning on Lights! Disarming Alarm! Opening garage door! Unlocking the entrance door!"

I'm like .. WTF?! I am already home! How did I enter the home zone? Turns out my cell phone had applied an update and restarted- and, when it did, it seems HAOS determined I had "entered" the home zone when the phone woke up and reported its position! 🤦‍

I should say it arrives any time in the next hour.

And now the fiber optic installer just came and blocked my driveway.

Its gonna be one of those days... hahahaha

My rents don't have HA but they do have an LG... it provides notifications, however I've had to repair it with wifi about 83947938247298349843729847 fucking times

#

which requires a factory reset, i.e. you have to unplug it from the wall

hot ridge
#

Oh that happened with my LG dishwasher too... I fixed it by connecting it to a 2.4ghz only network ... 5ghz being available seemed to make it .. well .. go a little wonky.

#

But now I have a separate SSID that is 2.4ghz only for my IOT stuff.

#

So hopefully I don't have that issue here! 🙂

primal laurel
hollow glacier

then there's the new integration LG made which has very little features and also breaks often

hot ridge

To know when the washer is running, yep. Then I use the door sensors to know if its been opened / emptied, and then since the dryer is 240v and I don't have a power monitor for that .. I use a vibration sensor instead.

So the power + door and vibration + door allows me to know if I've moved over the laundry or not and nag me until I do.

For vendors? I can name about 100 reasons they do it. All of them are anti-competition/anti-open and "our stuff works perfect together, buy only our stuff"

fathom sparrow
#

people want notifications on their phone, home or away. Regardless how you look at that, that means it needs cloud at some point.

#

I am OK with cloud when I set up my parents & relatives things, but not myself

hot ridge
#

And for vendors, getting the information into their control as soon as possible, allows them to optimize for those sorts of things.

fathom sparrow
#

mainly because I can support it from a distance and they get their notifications

#

And regardless what anyone says, most of the cloud based solutions are super easy. Which is really appealing for non-tech-heads

primal laurel
#

ok but then we have to differentiate between cloud connectivity and controllability. I don't mind a 'connection' to the cloud but I do mind a cloud dependency

those sorts of taps are one-and-done

forest edge

you don't think they can't make a connector for 3 lines?

unborn merlin
#

you don't get to remove from wires repeatedly and keep integrity.

forest edge
#

they can make a base with with the connectiosn then make a bulb that snaps ir or twist locks that lines up those connections

#

nothing keeping them from doing that

A team of scientists researching in California say they’ve recorded multiple instances of ground squirrels hunting and eating voles, describing it as a “novel behavior never previously observed in our study population”.

A paper published on December 18 in the Journal of Ethology said that, “Over two months in the twelfth year of a long-term stu...

I mean it works because the entire premise of the show is that this guy is an asshole. Which only works if, you know, he actually is.

unborn merlin
#

I mean yes, he is a tremendous dick and all that.

and not much of that show is accurate

.. except I suppose how free they are with the narcotics in the early seasons.

That checks out for late-90's early 2000's in the usa after all.

Ah. Do you have a copy of it somewhere? Or maybe I should attempt a simple solution to only get notified if boxes go from 0 to X. EDIT: Nevermind. I did the simple solution. 🙂

# crisp oriole You what?

InputStick. It's a USB dongle that connects to (normally) phones via Bluetooth and acts as a keyboard/mouse/gamepad/etc proxy. I have one to use with keepass2android for password entry on devices where entering long and complex ones is tricky, like TVs and game consoles. You made me realize there's also the potential for an integration to make use of one for scripted keypresses/text entry/mouse movements/etc. Not sure I specifically have a use case, but I could see using it to automate menus that aren't properly exposed on a smart TV, for instance.

crisp oriole
#

ah.

atomic delta
#

Of course, I lack the knowledge to produce such an integration myself at this time, so it's mostly me musing on what could be.

I gona remember the url i send to the tv. parse the url with node to get the links. open the url of the name of the link
