to close this up: I think using the UI is smarter after all. UI is moaning about not having a unique id for my new sensor etc. – I guess you'll lose some UI functions (and lose some abilities with using the UI) but overall especially for templates, I'd say better use the UI

If you're using a paid version of chatgpt, then maybe (where the training is more recent than 2021)... but over the literal thousands of discord/forum posts where the user has used chatgpt to write something in YAML (especially against the newer 2024.09 and onward changes), it's consistently wrong or just overly verbose or will take some weird python/jinja/YAML thing and mash them together.

I definitely need to re-evaluate my camera situation in the next year here. I'm currently using Ring devices which .. I probably don't need to say anymore about why I wanna move away from them.

But I do like the hardware itself, I like the camera + floodlight I have installed on either side of my garage, since it solves multiple problems in a single device really well for me.

UniFi cameras are pretty good (even if they are at the expensive end of what you could consider "home" options), but the requirement for one of their (imho overpriced) NVRs and no ability to self-host is a bit of a hard sell

My update hasn't been significantly longer. If you are using Spotcast, it might take a bit longer to start/fail, because the 3.9.0 version does not work with HA 2024.11.0. But you can upgrade to Spotcast 4.0.0 after the update.

Nah, not using that. Just haven't ever seen an update take longer than a minute and this one spun for over 20 minutes before it completed, last thing in the supervisor logs was it was still downloading the update which doesn't make sense but it is what it is
