I blame the rocket surgery
Rocket scientist here, can confirm it's not rocket science
that is so controlled, dayum
I just watched the news.
2 hours waiting to make your vote. I will be angry if it takes 15 minutes.
Or is this a am/pm vs 24 thing
most of those folks could have voted early if they wanted
it took me 45 minutes to early vote on saturday, I was not happy
I don't think my state would let me mail in a ballot
It would be too easy to vote that way and that's bad according to the current ruling party
Well far right is tearing up the netherlands i hope you guys are save.
I think I could, but it takes effort to prove I was gonna be out of state (when I wasn't)
we'll certainly try
We had 4 pages of things to vote for. I did it from homeโ no idea how people do it in person
California essentially gave up on that and just mails everyone a ballot now
I like the term ya'll-qaeda for them
I had to opt in when I first moved here after voting in person the first year (2008) and then they just opened it up to everyone
Yeah, I figure that I would just be copying votes from a form I filled out at home, so...just fill it out at home and send it in or drop it off at a polling place
what's the left wing equivalent?
I've dropped my ballot off at a polling place a few years when I didn't get it in the mail in time.
Norman people
luckily, there are several in my neighborhood on my commute
I used to vote with my parents
My mom is one of those "knows the whole town" so she would be standingthere
heuheuheu, this almost feels like a family outing
NO SHUT UP
voting should be as easy as possible, full stop
Let's do it electronic
y'all qaeda is definitely the right wing extremists, there are for sure some blue's that are the opposite in extremeness
Well they haven't tried to pull a coup on the government and install a dictator yet
Lol
no no no, I just want to blame our problems on both groups in a funny way
Lol yeah I haven't heard any funny ones for the left
disappointing
I just watched a good video outlining why this is a horrible idea
I would still prefer it
Scan tron the best
I'm okay with it being paper, generally, as we have a system that deals with it pretty well, and it avoids a major source of complaint about election integrity
true or not, valid or not
I think if there was an electronic option turn out would be significantly higher across the board
no doubt, but too many people wouldn't believe the results
I would be one of them
Heh, make it a legal duty, with a 1% income tax for the year you don't vote
that would be the-most targeted data
So many people would go vote to avoid that at all costs
I agree with both of you (Rob and petro)
I was meming, its a horrible idea indeed
I'm watching that video and it had things that definitely wouldn't fly in the US
Yeah
the video segued into the inline razor ad and I wasn't paying attention until I was like "WTF does this have to do with voting???" ๐
I was waiting for the analogy
voting is like razors and razor blades because...something
๐คฃ
people keep using the dull that damages their health?
The dutch ditched the electronic devices (they could not make them secure) and use paper. A very large paper.
I use a double edge safety razor which I love. Blades are stupid inexpensive and the shave is great.
I bought a oneblade one but they changed the design of the head
I had completely migrated to that until Covid hit and I decided that I didn't really need to shave ๐
So the old replacements cost like 20 bucks a piece
Honestly? Same. But I still use it to touch things up.
there's a whole community and marketplace and historical lore around DE shaving
it's almost a religion for some folks
People are like that with straight edge razors too
only real men ๐
And I guess most things that can be considered hobbies ๐
-# gestures at home assistant wildly

I switched to this OneBlade at @minor nexus 's suggestion almost 2 years ago and it's awesome: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08T37X4SP
that + using it in the shower to keep the cut hairs contained have been gamechangers
The stress of facial hair mgmt has gone to zero
I have one in my bathroom and one in my toiletry bag. Good to go
I just replaced my first blade and only because it broke in half in my bag
thanks so much for the suggestion!
We are all in it to improve our life
Sometimes with automated blinds
Sometimes by finding the right razor
the only issue I have with it is that I have to mess with it to get to the area just under my nose to match the length of the rest, but it's a small thing
lol
I know EXACTLY what you mean
Itโs particularly problematic for me because thatโs where my thickest facial hair is
it ends up longer and looks silly, so I have to dial it closer to get that area
Iโve started taking the guard off to trim it
Itโs a small enough area that i havenโt screwed it up yet
Waiting for the first Nick that makes me start fresh again
The way you tell this is almost as if you are selling an AWS product
This thing looks great for beard care, may need to pick one up too
If I was selling you an AWS product:
- you wouldnโt realize it
- Itโll be a whole lot more valuable
Do it, you won't regret it
So much more convenient than a set of guards
I now use my old shaver and guard set for trimming my hair around my ears and neck
And a bigger Wahl for the main part
I guess I could use the one blade for the former, hadn't thought about it
I just use one length the whole way around; hair and beard both ๐
I just look like a slob, no shaves
I've got an older Philips one from 2020 (purchased during covid lockdowns), works great
And I've got thick hair too (the one thing Scottish ancestry seems to be good for), doesn't have any trouble

one to many blogs that start with The joy of being a washing machine! I love my job, and today was no exception. gona woop my washing machine
The thrill of being a washing machine! I love the feeling of getting to work, knowing that Iโm about to tackle a mountain of dirty laundry and transform it into a pile of fresh, clean towels. 8 years ago i would love that message
ngl but home assistant is like a drug
once you try it out, you'll always want more to add and more to configure
want is a rather strong word
odd. spectrum sent me a text message stating they increased my internet speed. no email, nothing in the mail.. wtf we boiled down to just relaying changes to services by an automated text message
well, i dont know about others but i want need more
huh? for free?
We had that happen with a different ISP about a year ago. Speed went from 150 down to 300 down (which was about as fast as we could get before now)
spectrum only did this cause google fiber came and people were switching to that. not the first time they upped their speed to due to competition finally becoming available around here but it is the first time that I only recieved a single text message about it lol
sorry to be that guy, I know we're only supposed to post in the forums now, but I've been searching on this for a week https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1303056733282766989 and I'm starting to think I'm either crazy for asking, or I'm asking with terms that don't make sense. Surely there is a way to get a dashboard to take up more screen realestate without going to a panel card? Are there better terms to use?
look up kiosk
Well, in Beta right now for 2024.11, Sections are no longer experimental. I haven't clicked the link to your thread so I have no context, are you trying to make the full dashboard or a card to go full width?
Sections will be actually released Tomorrow as opposed to experimental, so wait a day and ask again maybe. I'm sure there will be changes.
That wasn't there when I started typing... Jinx
completely not what I was thinking they were asking lol
tbf they did ask if they were using the wrong terms, so we could all be really wrong.
-# I am really good at being wrong.
You are not wrong
-# at this
there in lays the terminology challenge... trying to make the dashboard take width. If i have 3 columns, currently they are small and centered in the middle, leaving about 80% of the screen realestate unused
Aha aha aha. Okay. I think I know how to help, lemme pop into your thread.
-# This is rare. Be shocked.
cool
Sometimes all you need is someone else to talk to just to bounce ideas off of.
I helped but not in a way that solved things. lmao
made it much much much worse did you?
poor person went from 80% unused dashboard space to 99.9%
rip
Hahahah lol.
I honestly just looked at their YAML compared to my dashboard that I knew was taking up a full screen to see what was missing. ๐
About 69% of Americans say they are feeling stressed out over this election. To help ease your nerves, here are some tips. At the top of our list is to spend some time in the great outdoors and enjoy this glorious fall weather. "Let the air, let the openness get you out of the claustrophobia that we're feeling psychologically that the walls are ...
yea that's what happens if the economy is bad and people can't afford to do coke anymore. They get to do other stuff
this is going to be interesting winter
Hey folks, so I've been gone from Discord for a while, and now it looks like there's nothing forums for help, was there a post somewhere explaining the reasoning behind the transition?
it was kind of a pin the tail on the donkey kind of thing
Thanks, I found what I needed. Node-Red is in automations, not related-tech.
It was. I think.
Yeah, it was, and the lock-down text in the archived NR channel should be updated to indicate the move imo.
Yeah, I have a task on my list to update that, but Iโm in the process of changing that whole channel again so it was gonna come with that.
Iโll get it updated tomorrow to avoid that confusion. ๐
Where did you find a gif of me trying to navigate my own network designs
Just as a precaution:
Do not post problematic content or media, nor anything that could be considered sexual, violent (known as NSFW/NSFL) or political in nature. This includes memes, anything that could induce epilepsy (without obstructing the content with a spoiler and making a disclaimer), or anything that can crash, restart or exploit the Discord client. If you are unsure if something is considered problematic, you shouldn't post it.
The channel description also says no politics as well
you guys should be thankful there aren't that many US people in this off topic at any given time.. cause yea.. this year
There are plenty of Americans awake right now. I'm in other servers with them.
Yeah, but this is an unusual time. You can't take an average and assume it applies during outlier events ๐
not refering to just now, talking at any given time
I see americans active here all the time lol
we come and go, but you don't see many at one time
Just ask them how many kilometers away they are from something
gotta start practicing at some point
thats not true. my tool chest has metric wrenchs and sockets as well
metric allen wrenches
even have a metric ruler for when i do 3d printing stuff
Now your American citizenship has been cancelled. Doesn't that count as treason or something like that?
not in a free country
Today is the day, Today is the day I got rid of the remaining Tuya devices and replaced them with Zigbee, finally managed to get the signal to my garage (with dual steel walls with insulation in between) just had to buy second Sonoff dongle and flash it as repeater and put it to the corner of the house closest to the garage ๐
just use a lan run or wifi and create a seperate zigbee network for the garage
yea tell me that 180cm dosen't sound short lol
technically it is shorter than 5 11 lol
Awesome work! That's a nice improvement
for definitions of "free" lol
I wanted to do that but that would require additional 'server' device in the garage.
not really
coordinators can be remote
the coordinator device itself is a server
i guess, but you already said you had one
the cheapest and easiest option was just sonoff dongle as repeater
sonoff dongle cant be used as standalone coordinator
AFAIK no
how do you connect it to wifi in order for it to relay information to HASS instance then
I'd agree with putting a network connected coordinator in the garage
However, this is all more for #1284966617670881350
sonoff dongle connected just to power wouldnt be able to handle everything by itself I dont think so, I did some research and it didn't pop up, all solutions required running separate machine where the dongle is then connected.
There are network connected ones, but again that's for #1284966617670881350
yeah could be but I already have the Sonoff dongle so ๐ works flawlessly provides rssi of -50 to the garage so no problemo
updating opnsense through HA always feels sketchy lol
I was about to say "TIL I'm not a little short for a storm trooper.", and then I thought "wait a minute..."
#the-water-cooler message
Damn I'm predictable sometimes...
Getting a bit excessive ๐ But it does improve readability with multiple switch nodes.
if i want to use addons i cant use HA docker right
Yes you need hassos
mmm i did the docker installation so i could run homebridge also on the same device. I think need to wipe it and install the HAOS image and use portainer for homebridge
I use Unraid and have HAOS as a VM
While still having everything else as Docker instances
using a pi dont think thats possible unfortunately
Probably not
linux libvirt is missing arch64 documentation... installing on 3rd try
will backup feature in the GUI copy all my data for a new install migration ?
EVERYTHING!!!
That is not allowed and will result in an unhealthy unsupported system. What do you want to run as an add-on that isn't available as a Docker container?
ah im starting to look into dashboards few of the guides say you need VS code aswell as some other addons
Run VSCode on your PC not your HA instance.
And no dashboard requires it. You can use any editor.
ive yet to find a good resource on basic dashboard editing
Ask in #1284965988642590891
I'm confused were I ask a question? (Can't find a matching category)

I looked there
Best way to start is to click the pencil at the top right corner.
Just trying to make sure its not me .. but can anyone confirm that they can't access the Personal Access Token page for the new LG ThinQ integration? The page seems to throw a JS error and doesn't render for me. Its LG's website so not a HA bug -- just wanted to see if someone else can confirm too.
The link looks a little spammy/phishy (but its not) so I didn't wanna link it directly, but its linked off of https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lg_thinq
The ThinQ page and API seem to have issues (at the worst moment). The problem is on LG's side afaik. It should work again soon.
Thanks, I'll just wait patiently, just wanted to rule it out. I'm in Canada and I've had weird things with LG services in the past because of it. ๐
Super cool to see an actual manufacturer contribute an integration though!
Does anyone know of (or has seen)....and I am in the USA, a hard "stick like - maybe that pivots" USB extender? I can find cables - but looking for something kinda like the WiFi antennas that stick off some of those cards - but has USB A (male) on one end and USB (female) on the other.
How's this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XCKHWMF
"gooseneck" is probably a good search term, for semi-rigid flexible metal things
Yeah I find all sorts of cords and cables. Seems like someone with a 3-d printer could make a fortune.
Creating something like that.
Something to allow you to pus ZWAVE or ZIGBEE dongle away from the machine.
why would it need to be rigid?
I see, you want it to be an antenna off the back of the pc
Not too far, but also not just sitting on the floor nearby
So like a 3 inch extension
I haven't seen anything like that before, just the semi rigid gooseneck type stuff with like LED lights on them to act like a little desk light
This is kinda neat - Guess one could use velcro to mount on a wall.
https://www.amazon.com/Type-Female-Extension-Station-Docking/dp/B07QMM6YFZ/ref=asc_df_B07QMM6YFZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693369603351&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13216271672227512221&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9010800&hvtargid=pla-813558337859&psc=1&mcid=ebb8dc0b0f9b3313bb81537f64830595
trying to test the new ThinQ integration - does this page load for anyone? https://connect-pat.lgthinq.com/tokens
Web site created using create-react-app
The ThinQ page and API seem to have issues (at the worst moment). The problem is on LG's side afaik. It should work again soon.
thanks for confirming
I get a beautiful WHITE screen.
White screen is always good. Blue ones are scary.
White on blue screens are the worst.
wonder what diffrences if any between the baked in intergration and the hacs one
๐
#1284966617670881350 with the "Matter" tag might be able to help
You mean the LG integration? check out the docs https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lg_thinq
It looks like it supports more devices.
What is the channel to suggest to build a docker asterisk to connect to hass voip for development purposes. The voip developer does not know much of asterisk. And a bug i made has quite some me to adds.
To have some official asterisk support would be nice. Because now its a gimmick
The custom one shows a number for tub cleaning of washing mashines for example.
The core one just fires an error event, when the cleaning is due.
At least it should
interesting
And being maintained by LG engineers means it likely stays more up-to-date with new devices.
You mean proposing a new asterisk integration? That would be something for the feature request forum threads.
No a docker setup for the devs to test and validate the voip integration
where did you see that?
It works (worked great) i have AI call sceening on my voicemail to allow important calls in unwanted times
Its in the release notes: https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2024/11/06/release-202411/
LG built and provided this integration! Itโs super nice to see a manufacturer providing an integration for Home Assistant.
My guess would be #1284966617670881350 with the "Other" tag, if you need help to get that up.
If you want to share your working one, the right place would be #1284960456880029707
I prolly dont need any help to make it. I only want to know if the dev team likes it and is going to use it to add asterisk to the supported voip connections
That sounds more like a feature request to be honest.
interesting the core one adds 15 more appliances
Shush, let's not confuse people ๐คฃ๐คฃ
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/voip/ its this intration.
Oke i file a feature request
ha answering machine
Yea, but as Jorg said, it also doesn't have the same sensors. So depending on what you need out of it, you may wanna double check the docs to make sure it has the sensors / entities / events you want first.
yea i'll only switch when the hacs one stops working lol
Also, you can't configure it at the moment since the LG API is down anyways.
O yeah. This is the hospital (family member) had an accident. And my phone rings what ever time or event
In the beta it looked like the core one uses and translates all the data from the official API. Where the custom component gets its additional values from...
(haven't looked and also I am not a dev)
Thats interesting... so maybe something unofficial that goes away at some point too.
The one example I read about was the counter for the tub cleaning (after every 30th cycle?). The API does not provide that number, just an error that it is due.
what tub cleaning counter?
I don't see that for the washer nor dishwasher
you mean countdown?
Not sure if anyone needs the "inspiration" but I saw this today on an air line, in a medical setting.
I thought it was a smart solution for determining the position of the valve
It's when you have to run the cleaning cycle on the washing machine.
Wait, you have to clean your washing machine?
Could ask those camera licking raccoons that Sonoma has
Yup. It's annoying to have to clean cleaning appliances. But apparently necessary.
I just have a calendar thing that pops off every 3 months to do the dishwasher and washing machine
I would do it more often but I am tight, and what doesn't kill me makes me stronger
this suggests that someone just turns these off for no reason lol
I am not sure what the valve does, probably can't say if I did know, but you know what sort of gases are used in a medical setting
And what might happen if it wasn't turned on ๐
@lone dagger, someone has stolen the shoulders out of your shirt. Do we need to form a search party to find them?
Some (not all) LG washing machines have a counter/an error message when the tub clean cycle should be performed.
i get no audio in that community stage
You might have cream in your ear?
a bunch of mimes with flapping lips
|| maybe you are a trifle deaf? ||
Have you silenced Discord (the headphone symbol besides your username)?
My mic is off as well, that cannot be the cause.
i can unmute music and hear music lol
The music can be turned off by clicking the music note symbol on the community stage page. It is some weird Discord feature.
But that does not effect the voice
Maybe leaving and rejoining the stage helps.
Yes please, I am cold.
Anyone else update, and now their HA just says error loading lovelace ?
ah i found the issue
What do the logs say?
How can I check logs ? I can't do anything in the UI.
By accessing HA via SSH or plugging a monitor and keyboard into the thing running HA.
Create a post in #1284966540617449515 with the logs and I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction.
Which log do I need to look at ?
Start with core. Copy it to dpaste.org and use that link.
oh i like how you can move the video window around when you are looking at other chat channels while in that stage thing
Noticed that on a different stream earlier this week. Itโs a nice touchโ especially on mobile
the single window that keeps changing to whoever makes noise makes me want to request them all to sing a single note in sequence just to clip it into a gif
I just opened another copy of discord and stuck it on a different monitor
Oh dayum, just saw the Huskvarna integration, sweet
Wonder if it will work with my ride on mower from 1988?
Sure, just need to stick an antenna or dish on it.
I will try it this weekend
is that a big brand there?
Yupp!
here's a product you can try: https://www.amazon.com/CHEU-antenna-headband-costume-bendable/dp/B0B8SQ51GL
figures. you swedes are weird
Oh I found the offtopic channel!?
sort of
we only talk about cool water and raccoons here
Thinking out loud, I could probably rig up the mower with a relay for starting, wheelchair motor for steering and a couple servi motors for throttle and gear and it would be an automower
so good to actually see people chatting โ all these (necessary) threads are so "closed"
I'd follow that thread
It would be awesome tbh
how often do you actually have to mow?
Run it with gps and geofencing
I thought atx said he only had green grass like 3 days a year
Once every 2 weeks really, when we don't have 27 meters of snow
sounds chill
1500m2
so just once then
Maybe twice in a good year
you might have to mow the snow if it keeps growing
honestly the idea gets better
I would say perhaps May to September are prime months
snow blower <--
I actually want to build a snowplow for it
snow mower
It has a 12hp engine, so it should move a fair amount
We don't actually get that much snow tbh
Last few years it hasn't been cold enough for it to stay
Iirc we have 2 days at the start of December 2023 when we had -20C, rest of the winter was like -12 at worst
And it kept going over 0 during the day and melting
That always seemed cruel when I was a kid. It snowed like crazy overnight, but melted enough that we didn't get the day off for school
I think I better sleep now
This sounds like my childhood
I wonder...
Yes, there is a raccoon gif for this occasion
Goodnight everyone
dream of non-evil automated lawnmowers
I think we only got snow like 1 day last year
this year we may see none
crazy times
so how smart is the assistant really? ๐
I was being polite ๐ฆ He could have acknowledged that
you win some you lose some
Soon all you'll get is "I'm sorry Dave, I cannot do that"
stop wasting my time with petty pleasantries, puny human
when HA can take form like in Subservience let me know
Dependsโฆ does HA run on a M2 Ultra with only 192GB of ram? I think it is barely just enough memory.
Bill Gates in 2025 "384 GB of ram ought to be enough for anybody"
But is the memory speed fast enough?
just realized there is a new ha version \o/ just been working on making my dashboard more beautiful
The real question is: Does HA run Crysis?
in the future everything is a hallucination ... nobody will care
I have an automation that sends me a notification when there is an update.๐
Holy shit boys, i just found home assistant and my job is doing system automation and programming for a big oil company
let the madness begin
my shitter is gonna be automated by 24v solenoids by the time we done lmao

turns out there is docker-compose (outdated) and docker compose (recent) โย how the tables have turned!
with docker compose no errors ^^
Would an input_boolean be the appropriate helper/entity to create to track a loading state? I think it is, just wondering if there would be anything else that'd be appropriate to use
What do you mean by โloading stateโ? An input_boolean is just a true/false.
Yeah, I'm probably thinking of it in more of a programming/development term, but basically set a variable "isLoading" to true, execute a slightly long-ish script, then set the loading variable to false. Watching that variable would tell me whether or not it's loading
Hopefully that makes a bit of sense.
Or actually, can a script tell me when it's started and when it ends?
Ok, seems to be a browser issue, so I'll trouble shoot that on my own.
you can put a notification at the start and the end of the script, sure.
Thatโs what I would do. Either a notification or a logbook entry.
And, Iโd also use that as a code sniff that the script might be too big. Unless you are doing something against a slow service or something like that.
Yeah, was thinking of doing this with an input_boolean. Would that be the proper way?
@real frigate -yes agreed about the length thing. It is a slow service I'm using (Google casting) so I think my sniff is hopefully okay there
I would just add the notifiy action to the start of the script or automation actions and again to the end of those actions.
No need for a boolean
Maybe I'm missing something here, but can I check the state of the notify action? I'd like to set a loading icon while the script is running. So after the start of the script, "isLoading" would be true and false at the end
I'm really tired of the snap store being down the past few days, I just so happened to inherit a project that uses github actions a lot
Replacing all the dependencies with something else has been taking up way too much time
I don't like snap either. wish people would just make their projects a docker container instead
trying to learn how to use dashboards is making my head spin
anything you're struggling with in particular?
this is starting to become one of their bigger outages in recent memory:

I don't think ubuntu sso has ever been down this long
rip admins that rely on livepatch i guess
ive got 0 experience with yaml so im using the visual editor and working out which cards are good with which devices. Some things are a bit unintuitive aswell which view to use and not being able to resize cards etc
So, what's the best way to show a bunch of light switches that are usable?
I've got some like so:
and some like this:
#1284965988642590891 can help
I just want the bottom one to work like the top one so I can toggle on and off from there - without opening a second popup
going to break the rules because i am a rule breaker but google custom cards
i'm trying to figure out if I want to create a custom time template to include the day past a month or just use 11:59 instead of the 1am I have been using for cuto off time of certian things
every year around this time I spend time setting up my holiday automatiosn etc and I think I finally have it ready to go for every year past yet...
I think I just get annoyed that stuff like the glance card can't have actions associated with it.
like, its perfect as a quick overview card - but useless for actually interacting with stuff quickly
ie you can only access the actual switch popup from it
so 1 tap becomes 3 taps
#1284965988642590891 can help, but last I checked it had actions
Oooooooo it does - but not in the GUI editor
** cough cough* custom cards
I did look at that a github site for that - but it seemed like even more of a learning curve.
lmao well buddy.. may as well dive in cause your gonna have to eventually!
I'm getting old and these days, my mental capacity is losing patience as stress levels increase :p
the problem isn't the learning curve.. it's what it makes you do after you figure it out.
damn wallet just keeps jumping out
well, the last insane integration I did was an interface to my duct controlling via node red and dynamic HA entities.
I'm kinda over that now hahahahahah
I dunno, i thought node red was a little harder
yea that looks simple but the detail is what I found harder
linking things was a breeze but getting what you linked to work is what was the pita for me
that creates binary protocol stuff within the functions - because you can't do that with normal nodes easily.
The action works ok for me, because it just becomes:
show_name: true
show_icon: true
show_state: true
type: glance
entities:
- entity: light.garage_light_switch
tap_action:
action: toggle
- entity: binary_sensor.garage_door_sensor_contact
- entity: switch.ender_3_power_switch_sonoff_basic_relay
tap_action:
action: toggle
- entity: switch.ups_power_switch_sonoff_basic_relay
state_color: true
i only messed with it on a linux machine, nothing to do with HA.. didn't see a need for it in HA as it can handle everything i needed without that
and I can leave stuff that isn't a switch as it is.
Though with the ducting stuff, I'd like to reimplement that in python - but I just don't know enough python to even start
some things would probably be much easier that way
if your wanting to move away from node red and achieve the same function in HA you could detail what you have and need in #1284980040940912641 and someone might be able to point you in the right direction
learning HA by converting something you already know would be an easier way of getting over that learning curve
oh, I've been using HA for like 5-6 years or so now
but mostly, after I've done a lot of stuff on it, it becomes set and forget
yea, learn to make something then forget a year later when you hadn't need to touch it.. i know that too well lol
like back before ESPHome was really a thing, I used to just use MQTT on ESP8266 things
that worked for a long time - but then I moved house and had to pull it all out
wasnt there a linux cli tool to talk to the hass assist?
google is not my friend in a query for this.
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/zonetouch-3-by-polyaire/496405 <-- that's been around for ~4 years
Iโve searched around and canโt find any support for ZoneTouch 3 in Home Assistant or home bridge. Plugged into a Daikin Ducted AC unit to control zones. I think it should be familiar similar to the โAir Touchโ units as itโs made by the same company. Anyone else would like to see support for this?
That's where I posted my node red flow.
but I'm 100% sure that's just abusing node red
ie an actual HA integration would be better
#1284966582375813201 may be able to help find one
@clever mortar the hass assist. not some cli interface to commands.
like the voice commands or the commands you type to the assist
sometimes I wish you could enter in fake channels just to troll with like #go-fly-a-kite and it would show like it was a real channel
#channels-i-fell-for
I kind of wish the categories would like open in it's own view rather than just be a drop down
ew I bought the third reality temp sensors in july and thier battery is already down half... ugh
scratch that heh I was reading the wrong value
get 2 million users in one room and you automaticly get it warm.
Ah, yeah. Thatโs gonna be slow no matter what. Carry on. ๐
may I quickly get some knowledge from you how you would approach this: when you see a -sensor / template yaml snippet on the forum for example ... how do you proceed? do you instantly edit your configuration.yaml and add it or do you copy the {{ function }} and use the UI? I'm super unsure what's smarter...
Many can only be done in YAML, some can also be done in the UI
I know that part... but I don't know what's better
There's no "better"
UI is "easier" but doesn't support everything YAML does
YAML can be shared easily, UI can't
imagine having ADHD and you are not able to choose, what would you choose without thinking about it? ๐
YAML
problem is... I never know where to put stuff / indent stuff ๐ฆ I guess just at the end / no indentations (for a - platform: template e.g.
well yeah, it's like 99,999% of all the snippets are only snippets and are not indepth enough ๐ I am learning tho
Ender mentioned using the notify action in the script. I'm away from my laptop to mess around with the script, but can I check the notify action for state (to change an icon) or was he saying to use that to send a notification or something?
I am just looking at some ha configs ... one is basically splitting everything into include sub yaml โ this probably leads to less indentation errors as well (yes, I still can't get my indentation right for the - platform: template sensor ๐ญ)
it just makes it easier to keepm things organized
and removes 2 spaces for each line of included yaml ^^
yaml is stupid easy compared to other coding. for HA's sake the hardest part is learning how to indent properly and use lists and such
so what you're saying is I'M ULTRA STUPID? ๐ฉ j/k
no clue how I can add this damn - platform: template so that the yaml checker is happy
no from a fresh start it looks harder than what it is. just saying there is far less to learn to make what you need to do work
rather than that. just look up other people's config examples
where to find a good one?
doesn't need to be a good one, just needs to be a working one lol
all you are doing is learning how the structure works
yeah all I find is the super nerds who work with includes ๐
well thats not a bad route, learn how to do that
thats part of learning the structure lol
not sure if the default config has all the different structure types already or not
been so long
the default configuration.yaml is just basically empty with some includes
anyhow my config is now completely damaged haha (no backup ofc)
has somebody a sensor configured in his config?
it's one indention after
homeassistant:
sensor:
- platform: template
``` or without sensor? other level?
I tried it all but now I'm in a spaghetti config with errors popping all over the place ๐
check this out https://github.com/frenck/awesome-home-assistant go down to public configurations. people use github as a means of backup to thier yaml files so you can see the entire structure of the config folder and click on the files such as the configuration.yaml
That's totally wrong
Head over to #1284966582375813201 to get help
not a whole lot you can't do through the UI these days
yeah... and also I don't have the editor add-on. So I don't get autocompletion for my sensors (another error source when not available).
that's too embarassing ๐
More so than asking for help in the only part of the server that's not for getting help ๐
that wasn't embarassing until now ๐
Head over to the right place and people can help
many come in here hoping to bypass the normal flow and try and find "quick" help while being embarrassed about not knowing the basics of HA but it's really not something to be embarrassed over. HA dumps into learning coding and a form of coding not that many (IMO) even use on an kind of regular basis at that
hell I go a couple of years and forget shit all the time to the point where I have to hunt down a refresher example or guide just to get me back on track
I just realized the imap attachment sensor has no icon in the intergrations page. slacker!
I totally get that, now I'm embarassed
to close this up: I think using the UI is smarter after all. UI is moaning about not having a unique id for my new sensor etc. โย I guess you'll lose some UI functions (and lose some abilities with using the UI) but overall especially for templates, I'd say better use the UI
you'll figure it out, everyone does in time. all it takes is time and patience ||and a crap load of google searches||
tbh chatgpt is pretty good with yaml for ha and esphome
Create a thread in #1284980040940912641 and I can give you some ideas.
you can say what you want ๐ it's almost alwasys correct / gives you an idea
If you're using a paid version of chatgpt, then maybe (where the training is more recent than 2021)... but over the literal thousands of discord/forum posts where the user has used chatgpt to write something in YAML (especially against the newer 2024.09 and onward changes), it's consistently wrong or just overly verbose or will take some weird python/jinja/YAML thing and mash them together.
i'm falling behind on ai. keep seeing youtube shorts that show some of the neat stuff ai is able to do with images and video and I so could be using that to create memes for this channel
lol slacker ๐
tbf, I have a local LLM running at the house that does stupid things like TTS notifications, weather forecasts, sleep reports, and camera image processing (the last one being @tidal bronze's fault).
oh you are not yet collecting super important AGI social coins so you'll have to work less in moon mines in 30 years?
sleep reports? lol
yup. lol I have a Withings sleep mat and soooooo, I scrape all the data from the previous night and let AI create a summary out of it.
wtf. i had to google that lol
wouldn't a fitbit work just as well
You have to wear a fitbit. This just goes under the mattress.
Plus, I don't have to charge it. Mains powered.
you read all of that?
I scan it for the lols
so much text โย can't you make a summary of your summary? ๐
lol it gives me something to read in the morning while I have my coffee...
basically you only need a home assistant dashboard with the 3 numbers probably
I figured ๐
I do have the sensors on cards on the dashboard for a quick glance... but, yeah, it could be shortened a bit.
maybe add just a bit of more positive affirmation
don't see how that can read your heart rate when you lay on your side
Psh... screw that. I want it to be abusive. heh
Dunno. I never sleep on my side.
yeah side sleeping is for embryos (j/k)
I wonder if the new sleep number beds come with something like that built in lol
we sleep face down
oh shit they do lol
But then, I also do stupid shit like this:
that's pretty cool tbh
now see that makes a little more sense. the bed being able to dynamic adjust to improve your sleep
I get that part of monitoring
hopefully it can wake you up again from your cryo sleep ๐
I would LOVE to have that... but my tempurpedic is just so damn comfy.
hahaha I'm strangely ok with that.
honestly: my bedroom is the one room without any smart stuff / electronics. It's just for sleeping.
Well, that's boring... ๐
I have no problem with keeping it that way
i have a smart clock thats about it
I might add some light strips that enable themselves when I stand up ^^
Mood lighting
oh and one of the litterrobots is in there
Bedroom? What about.... Cat bathroom!
I don't even notice it in there
Mood ==> Finally I moved my body into the cool, long abandoned bed โย so the mood light should be as dark as possible ๐ (dark matter is not yet controllable is it?)
lol smart devices in the bedroom: ceiling fan, curtains, blinds, lights, switches, air purifier, light strips,mmWave, PIR, sleep mat... ugh... this is a disease.
sounds like they will give you a disease yes
You're a disease ๐
lol I have a mild smart home addiction. That's all.
It'll pass... right?
wake up with a softball size lump on your face from all the shit bombarding you
so soon we'll have those funny machines people built like 70 years ago for breakfast automation as well?
I do have two big macro pads on the night stands too, they control the fan and overhead lighting
11/10 waf
Eh, I mean, have you been outside lately??? Can't be much worse than that.
macro pads? like streamdecks or what they are called?
depends where you live lol
Esp decks ๐
you could be doubling or tripling up lol
I probably am, tbh. lol
and when you press the button the coffee machine turns on?
looks like the old remote we had to get for my grandmother years ago to control the tv
Well if someone in your house needs glasses to see, big switches when they don't have those make a difference
Plus they were fun to use
future is buttonless tho! but very good for really old people ๐
Lol, so yelling at a speaker that'll never do what you want is the future?
the AI will ofc know what you want before you know you want it
(I use no voice features, no always on listening devices, anywhere)
Also I did my best to disable all the useless voice crap in Android too
ai and implants do seem like the direction shit is going lol
I don't have voice control in the house nor do I have buttons either.
which will basically lead to transcendence omg
Lol until ai is no longer the favorite child of vc, then it'll be no where again
There's a few switches scattered about, but generally the house just does it's thing based on whatever I am doing.
I have switches everywhere, an entire product line of macropads
I disagree... local LLM is booming and doesn't require VCs. ๐
never gonna happen.. it will replace everything it can first
for now I use my apple ecosystem to control stuff and I am pretty happy with it
ew... interactive control? meh.
For the things that aren't fully automated, yeah
No phone apps needed
Eh, I guess that works. I am too lazy to push buttons and tell the house to do things. Do it for me. lol
IT SHOULD!
Or when I actually want the lights on in the bedroom
MAKE HOUSE SMARTER!!! ๐
interactive control I really need to learn ... how many times was I in the kitchen cooking and the light went out because "it's 1 am!! time to turn off the liigght!!!"
Lol more like make the humans less erratic
Mine does... basically lux + presence + time + weight in the bed == lights on/off.
Nope, wouldn't work still
Fair, I'm a creature of habit.
Reading in bed? Straight to jail
Yeah... TBF, I do have a button switch automation that overrides the lighting for 20 minutes and then goes back to normal.
I mean... my tablet is backlit ๐
ew all automated.. QF Jr over here
They don't make backlit paper for books though
QF Jr?
lmao you ass... but maybe ๐ He gives me way too many bad ideas.
He's being an ass to me. lol
as a matter of fact you only need very little light to read (the less the faster you sleep anyways and bed is for sleeping not fun! :P)
Quick fire!
ah like a cowboy I guess
speak of the devil
That's the extra feature of the mood lighting, it's enough to read by while not being the overhead lights
Quick Mick Junior
Huh
lol also fair... but I've never been one to read in bed. for whatever reason, my eyes get all wonky when I read in bed.
he can control his HA faster than his voice travels
Middle earth is rebelling again... ๐คฃ
Lol. What else to do
๐คฃ
Oh no
Oh yeah the other reason I made those keypads was a dog with acid reflux, at times would start gagging to vomit in the middle of the night, so id need bright light fast and grab the dog and put them in the bathroom (easier to clean) to vomit
Eh, itโs only there really for when I get out of the shower and walk into the bedroom. It turns on the lights and closes the blinds and the curtains.
But most times you get out of bed at night you don't want the overhead lights on immediately
That one makes sense.
Under bed lights first
You don't track shower state?
lol
That's a problem right there
"the water is on"
Gotta at least automate the vent fans
"soap is in your eyes"
Those new ai models are great huh
"so that's why you have a security camera pointing in your shower?"
in codes version it would be more like, "haha suds be blinding you"
Not water usageโฆ yet. Thatโs on my list for next month. For now, itโs mmWave and PIR in the shower.
Once you add that, no more button
mmWave to heat your body up?
Hmmmm, good point. EXCEPT, changing clothes with a shower happening.
5 GHz @ 10 kW?
Hahaha noooo mmWave presence.
โRadarโ
oh
Which is what microwaves are based off of
nad-o-heater
because PIR is not good enough?
The chocolate bar in a military suits pocket melted in front of the radar dish
A product designed just for you. lol
PIR was never good enough
I have a Zigbee PIR sensor. That worked like 3 times properly
PIR requires constant movement and toggles between on/off. mmWave is WAY better.
Tuya?
might be yeah
Thereโs your issue. lol You get what you pay for
okay so mmWave * note *
was pretty expensive tbh
I bet with esphome it'd work like a charme
An expensive Tuya sensor?! lol
this is like a basic learning hurdle for many tho.. they get in the shower, the lights turn off and after spending the next 10 minutes or so constantly waving thier hand outside the curtian they learn how to add in delay timers in thier automations for pir sensors
Imma just drop this here https://apolloautomation.com/products/msr-2.
Was wondering when that would get posted in here
Spot on.
You need to add distance to the mix to solve more than 1 person in master bath
Shush you. ๐คฃ
why? ๐
best in class? ^^
Oh shit. Youโre absolutely right!!!
Iโm kind of an Apollo fan boy. Everyone knows it.
to seperate on the toliet vs in the shower?
Yes
you don't want the vent fan to turn on while you are taking a crap?
it's all about the food you eat
I use zones for that. Zone 1 = toilet, fan on after 3 minutes. Zone 3 = shower, fan on above 70% humidity.
funny thing is. by the time you add in all these sensors and being on 24/7 you are using more energy than any of the devices you are trying to limit by automation lol
depends on the fan I'd say ๐
anything made after 1960
maybe buy an EC fan
to save even more on energy and invest more money ๐
Not if you use Panasonic Whisper
Actually, disagree. All my fans are DC Brushless fans (including the extractor in the bathroom) and most of my sensors and โstuffโ are battery powered/low energy.
so the battery waste makes up for it?>
Screw the future kids. lmao
do you have a jugdmental face right now? ๐
I know what you mean but I find dc brushless amusing, since brushless motors by design are a type of ac motor
please think about the future of our kids code!
I might fill a trash can with coin batteries but all be damn I saved 30 cents this year on my fan eletric cost
Alternating between the different coil sets
Hopefully you got the ones with PWM slow ramp up
Do I look like an electrician? They all had โsmartโ and โDCโ in the Amazon listings. ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
well, turns out you are the waste warrior when you throw batteries into the trash! ๐ we have special locations to collect batteries so the inside doesn't leak and make the earth uninhabitable for 300 years
j/k
Pshโฆ screw them. My tiny battery impact is nothing compared to the big companies. hahaha
slow ramp up? as in it gives you time to escape before sucking you upward into the cieling?
My requirements were simple: must be quiet at full speed, push a lot of air around, and integrate into HA.
I hate the old type where it sound like a damn turbine. Ramp up and ramp down with humidity is easy on ears
yeah that's why I'm glad I don't have one in my bath
--> need to eat good food only when I have guests / people around (or not poop)
Dang so not one of these https://www.turbines-rc.com/en/schubeler/2117-schubeler-ds-215-dia-hst-195mm-carbon-edf-ducted-fan-motor.html
That's no fun
nah... I only have german shops but they are like 200-300 euro with EC (most efficient even when run at 1% .. they only consume 1% of the power)
over 4k for a fan
but sometimes afterburner is useful
Lol it's top of the line rc gear, that thing could launch your plane over 100mph
But it isn't a turbine, we have those too
Micro turbines are super cool
never mount turbines to the earth ...might accelerate earth rotation speed
we don't want that
Also that fan probably uses a kw
actually those do "ramp up" so at least one part fits
THE NOISE THOUGH WOULD CERTAINLY NOT MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS
THOUGH YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HEARING ANYTHING ELSE NEARBY, BEST WHITE NOISE GENERATOR AROUND
I dunno. might make @tidal bronze feel right at home.. as if he was in buisness class
I mean, The Wandering Earth movie might have had the right idea. lol
dont think this fits under support but im curious if general touch screen monitors are supported by Green? like if i plug it in via HDMI?
so it would have to be a tablet with HA installed?
doesnt it have a play store app?
Sure, but that's not HA, that's a client app
ah
so a cheap android tablet with chrome and it should work?
As long as it's new enough
android 12-13
didn't think a tablet had to be that powerful just to open ha ui
For that no, but some crazy folks try to run HA on them
yeah, my ancient android 4.5 has kinda fallen into obscurity
and its old enough the "soft" case built in has started to decompose
its a nice tablet and even has a built in USB-A port
It's all about webview/webkit versions and also people do SUPER heavy dashboards with tons of buttons and scripting and camera feeds and stuff and then complain that the UI is slow on their tablet.
yeah, im just loading a few zigbee compatible buttons, tapo sensors, TP security cams, and a few Govee lights
from what you just said i'm pretty sure they complain it's slow on thier gaming pc as well
lol yeah true
Im just trying to consolidate everything into one setup because i have a spattering of brand new alexa stuff, with old but reliable google equipment
the green has an hdmi out?
one "could" install HA in docker than just open it on the same system lol
thats what this looks like:
guys can someone help me please?๐๐ป
my goal is to use adguard home also when iโm on mobile data on my phone (ios)
adguard home currently works well on the local network. how do i also use it remotely? (bonus points if it enables control of HA app remotely)
TIA๐๐ป
You'd need an always on VPN, or to expose your AdGuard Home server to the internet (don't do that)
so using wireguard? i got the add on and the app too but i canโt connect the dots ๐
Yes, wireguard is a VPN
Set up the Wireguard server to push the AdGuardHome for DNS
This is kinda #1284966617670881350 though
look into tailscale. it's wireguard simplified, and set your local client as the endpoint
yes iโd rather avoid clogging this place with all my questions. can i also contact you?
No, just create a topic
DMing people for support is dumb - you only get one person's perspective and miss out on a lot
ok i see your point
So, i was one of the unlucky people that has an N2+ and a kingston emmc, which had a boot issue. After months of crap trying to get it working.. a dev build has finally come out that seems to immediately fix it.
I finally have home automation again.. what a great day ๐
yey, the LG API / token page is back up!
Don't jinx it!
haha you're right
If it breaks again, we will just blame you and hold you responsible.
DDOS bot crashed
lol its a deal
DDOS bot, aka, Home Assistant release, right?
Xbox Live used to do that. When the connection would be pulled back up after an outage, the amount of people trying to connect would absolutely make the system DDOS itself.
There was a whole new system built to funnel things slowly. ๐คฃ
As someone who previously built ad servers, handlng 200k requests a second ... you can absolutely DDOS yourself pretty easily.. haha
Guys i need help, does anyone use Music Assistant?
If so, can you answer me one simple question?
Does Music Assistant work with Home Assistant CONTAINER? HA with no Add-ons?
You already posted in the support channels. Please do not crosspost.
Sorry just thought this was a simple question and would have a bit more traction, won't happen again ๐ซก
The simple answer is... yes
thanks, less hair to tear out i guess
me: makes an integration using mqtt discovery on monday
home assistant on weds: we have a new mqtt discovery method!
๐ซ
Well, you don't really need to swap to it
It's really for devices
Although, I will likely use that now myself ๐ I somehow missed it in beta
Yah, for a single device that has multiple sensors/entities
that's what it looks like to me
so you could have your shelly device output that, have it treated as a device with a single config topic. Before you 100% had to use mqtt yaml. Or an entity with 839482983472398 attributes
yeah, that's what I have. single device with ~5 sensor
I heard someone on the livestream yesterday say saomething like "when they add this to zigbee2mqtt it will make startup much faster" so there is some performance benefit here too I think?
hey guys, i have been having Alexa for years now, and nowadays the level of ai is way better than what alexa can do. I know it should get like a subscription for it and be better, but i honestly dont want to pay another subscription for it.
So i saw you can make your own AI with home assistant right?
Is it possible to then use it in my alexas devices?
i dont want to like throw away my echo dots devices
Yah, but does the device offer a way to provide discovery inside it?
if it doesn't then you don't need to switch
Z2M would need to use it (which they aren't), and all it does is allow for a single discovery topic for multiple entities. So in theory it could be faster.
it's a webhook > mqtt proxy for mutedeck. first time it sees a device it broadcasts the 5 discovery messages
if I can do it in one, that's cool
:sonic_speed:
ffmpeg is pure software gold
it's a Swiss Army Knife, where there are like 30 knives that are guaranteed to cut you
I'm messing with it right now
yes and no ๐
in the 2024.11 release ffmpeg crashes / timeouts a lot
looks like this then
That very much has little to do with ffmpeg itself
I couldn't say it's fragile at all. It runs on basically any hardware with most accelerators you can think of
I always wondered tbh why Google can get such supreme streaming quality ... and I ... at home ... it's always taking SECONDS to load. That's my experience the last decades
converting videos easily
computer graphics...
How homeassistant handles its integration is most likely to be what causes things to be as you experience them
well, I have never managed to create a stable stream with ffmpeg. Like Youtube can e.g.
ofc ffmpeg is one of the most important software packages ever written ...now 94x faster ๐
I had it restream files to twitch from a pi 2 for a while ^^
ofc... when it works it works
I'm trying to find the magical incantation to scale video in Frigate when creating a new camera and it's pretty annoying
and I tried many many many many many implementations / PVRs etc. pp.
it was always "fragile"
maybe I need a better camera tho... those Tapo cams are not bad per se but it has too much software (geared towards cloud) attached to it. What cams are you using?
I definitely need to re-evaluate my camera situation in the next year here. I'm currently using Ring devices which .. I probably don't need to say anymore about why I wanna move away from them.
But I do like the hardware itself, I like the camera + floodlight I have installed on either side of my garage, since it solves multiple problems in a single device really well for me.
I've been casually looking at reolink and unifi
I'm using those both and like them both
UniFi cameras are pretty good (even if they are at the expensive end of what you could consider "home" options), but the requirement for one of their (imho overpriced) NVRs and no ability to self-host is a bit of a hard sell
does nabu casa do the same as the HACS โalexa media playerโ?
no
alexa media player does extra stuff?
they are completely different
they are not related...
completely unrelated
one allows HA to control alexa devices, the other allows alexa to control HA devices
the first one would be alexa media player right?
yes
do you need nabu casa to use it? or its just for the opposite?
no
they have nothing to do with each other
ty
also, is there a way to have my apple calendar events into HA?
or i need to use other calendars systems?
Yes
You don't need the unifi nvr
Hehehehehe
I use blue iris with my unifi cams
Also throw amcrest into the pot of good ip cameras
We need a ask yes no questions channel
@reef stream #the-water-cooler message
Are you sure?
No
Im in my 3weekly cycle im not sure of anything
wait, i am not sure WebDav means but does it allow to see like a calendar dashboard?
I already have a Dream Machine Pro so I could totally just add cams. Its one of the options I'm considering.
My Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite before it died was having trouble opening some of my dashboards, especially ones with the apexcharts card, but any complex dashboard, really.
This is the first time I have had issues upgrading home assistant. It keeps reverting back to the previous version.
Anyone else noticing this? Or should I get started on submitting an issue?
Post it in #1284966540617449515. The people might be able to help troubleshooting.
Not looking for support, but anyone else have super long install times when trying to update to 2024.11?
My update hasn't been significantly longer. If you are using Spotcast, it might take a bit longer to start/fail, because the 3.9.0 version does not work with HA 2024.11.0. But you can upgrade to Spotcast 4.0.0 after the update.
Even so, this is just a post topic
There's no bar for what's support, just the right place to ask things
Nah, not using that. Just haven't ever seen an update take longer than a minute and this one spun for over 20 minutes before it completed, last thing in the supervisor logs was it was still downloading the update which doesn't make sense but it is what it is
Not even topic worthy, simple poll of the community more than anything
Please post in the proper place next time
Sometimes it's just nice to see if it's known before creating a topic/issue.
Is just not a high bar. I think it's the wrong mentality to think that creating a topic is some big production
Just type whatever you were going to type in a topic. That's it
It doesn't require a 2/3 vote if congress
Don't even think about it, just post in the right place
It's 0 effort to do it right
Can I put 50% effort into doing it wrong?
Kidding, I get it
Can I put 50% effort into doing it wrong?
Me at work
"How many people are working at your company?" - "Not even 50%."
Just a heads up to my fellow nerds, govee just issued a pretty big recall for their space heaters. Looks like they like to start fires.
But they still heat spaces
It's just engineering ingenuity
Anyone?
Your Reddit post has been answered comprehensively already.
That's not my post
I'm wondering if more ppl got hit
My HA is behind cloudflare proxied domain and nginx. so I don't know how they targeted
Yes shut down your HA install immediately, and then completely delete it and hide in a cardboard box /s
this message doesnt indicate anything bad happening really
It's just the usual port scanning nonsense that always happens. Anything exposed to the internet will see it eventually.
except my port isn't opened
it kinda is
If traffic can reach it, something is open ๐คฏ
sorry i am kinda confused on how to set it up, not sure what i need to put in there, i tried with url: https://caldav.icloud.com/ and then my apple credentials
#1284966582375813201 can help
right!
quick question, how can i "push" a button in home assistant?
action: toggle doesnt work
technically yes but behind both cloudflare (hidden IP) AND nginx (hidden port).
through templates/events or through the ui
the button card uses tap_action: action:toggle
huh? if i do that it says action button.turn_off not found
for input buttons its input_button.press
a button kinda cannot be turned off, that would be a switch no?
true
thats still exposing a reachable endpoint which transmits data
all that is doing is more routing to avoid telling the client about your host
I hate to break it to you, but if you can access your HA install from outside of your LAN you have a port opened
Yes. That would mean it's a hit against domains.
yes thats common
if i recall they tap into the public available cert transparency thing to easily find good matches. especially fun with wordpress sites
Yeah, CT means pretty much anything with an SSL cert is known by every attacker the moment the cert is live.
not great but unless you are running cheese its somewhat non critical
Couple that with Shodan... well, now everyone knows what vulnerabilities to look for.
Interesting and TIL. I just didn't understand how. And attack against HA is relatively rare.
good thing i named my domain totallynothomeassistant.myurl.com
While wildcard certificates generally are a terrible idea, they somewhat could mitigate it leaking through ct
its weird i can use google home to tell my robo vac to clean a specific room but alexa and HA cant seem to do it
hi, not sure where to go with this: I have a new pop-up under repair that tells me that it "detected use of legacy WebRTC provider...." how can I resolve this?
Thank you! I will post it there
difference between Voice assistant: Home assistant and home assistant cloud?
This is still not a support channel.
I've only been here all of 5 minutes but how neat would it be to have a "0-->100" channel here? Like a read/watch list in order of difficulty/importance that'll take one from beginner to HASS Master. (If this already exists here and I just missed it I'm deleting this post...)
Thatโs actually something Iโve been considering making sure we have video content for.
Glad to see there would be interest.
I have all the interest! I feel like everything I do takes half a day because I have to teach myself what everything means first.
Huh.. email from Amazon to stop using our govee space heater immediately and how to get a refund.. fire hazard
the irony of amazon recall refunds is they only require a picture of like the cord being cut while just instructing you to throw away the device. not ship it back... if one wanted they could easily get the device for free..
Ya.. I'm somewhat debating it, unplug when not in use. Shame because it's a great device.
If anything happens though insurance would throw a fit
yea, that would certainly be problematic
106 instances in the US, 7 in Canada
Such a waste, but I get it. Need to find something to replace it with I guess
Nothing saying I can't harvest from it though....
I mean 113 incidents among over 500k sold? I would just move it away from anything flammable and keepm using it lol
like i have a space heater in my garage on a slab of concrete.. it would be enjoying a goveelife lol
That's why I'm debating ๐
Well, what would you like to see it focus on first?
I do not understand your response.
