@tidal bronze when did you have time to do this? https://youtube.com/shorts/r3D9uULs9fM?si=WnhoLotQLuTfk5qq
whats a good battery powered temp/humidity sensor?
Xiaomi LYWSD03MMC is popular if you go the Bluetooth route. Dirt cheap and very capable
Actually I'll withdraw this recommendation for now, just noticed that it seems there's some kind of new encryption or something that blocks the custom firmware. Can't recommend with that unclear.
with all the different protocols it makes answering a question like that even harder
i typically just use wifi
i do have a govee bridge for waterleak sensors though. i believe its 433mhz.
for wifi I would certainly go for the shelly just for quality and reliability aspect. https://www.amazon.com/Shelly-Gen-Bluetooth-Temperature-Mountable/dp/B0CX9G64FW
they make a Plus variant that can stand even colder temps if it's something you want to mount outside
if you don't need a display then the options expand greatly
dont need outside no.
do you happen to know if the shelly is moddable to install an external sensor? even just for temp.
wouldnt mind monitoring fridge/freezer temps.
I can't answer on what I linked but you can connect a wired external sensor to any of the relays they offer like the Shelly 1, 2 etc
I assume you mean via this thing? https://kb.shelly.cloud/knowledge-base/shelly-plus-add-on
DS18B20 sensors are available in all kinds of different shapes and sizes for very cheap, so probably not a bad option.
thanks folks. much appreciated.
Really the important thing to monitor your fridge is it's ideal to keep the electronics outside, and just the temperature sensor inside
Li-MnO2 batteries ("CRxxx" models) really suck at low temperatures.
Li-FeS2 AAs do a lot better, but aren't super common in battery powered sensors.
The really good stuff uses Li-SOCl2, but you really have to design everything to have ridiculously low power draw to use those
Doing home assistant for the first time (going to try it in an office environment). Planning on using it for some kasa dimmers to start with. Any advice? Also should I start with green or just install it on whatever (I'm technically proficient)
yes
If you just want to kick the tires a bit to test it out, there's no reason to get any special hardware. You can just set it up on a VM on any old existing hardware.
VM better than throwing on a random raspberry pi?
For stability I would say yes.
HAOS is good, yeah.
An iconic duo reunited. The countdown is on. Our Halloween software update arrives after the clock strikes midnight (local). Spooky features will be available for a limited time.

Jesus H Christ! I just deleted a card I have been working on for DAYS! Please tell me there is undo for UI!
Do you have backups?
Nope!
Then assuming you saved the dashboard after deleting the card, there's no undo.
What did your card do?
ALWAYS make a backup before config changes. Always.
This only works while the vehicle is in park. This commercial is a fraud!
ugh just noticed that google is trading on the home assistant name..
?
App is kinda garbage. A shame, because the products are pretty great
you have a twinkly lights?
One 400 LED AWW string
I won't mess with it this year but may look into this for next year https://lordorwell.wixsite.com/lights-of-elberfeld/software
Strung up across a bedroom ceiling in a grid pattern
So the mapping that twinkly can do was actually kinda effective
Oh ya, no problems sleeping with that on...
I wont to be able to set rgb values. not just be stuck with sliders
I mean it has other modes...
oh, its 'home control - google assistant'
Like sleeping in a Stanley Kubrick movie.
It was a right bastard to install though. I ended up stringing up enameled copper wire in the pattern and using it as a catenary to hang the lights.
Also because the longer Twinkly strings are two lengths with the controller in the middle, had to consider that in the design
yea they max at 250 per "string"
my tree has 600 and I can see it uses 4 ports
neat. everything and poe.. tho not sure why i'd want to jump on touch screen... https://www.seeedstudio.com/Home-Assistant-Yellow-Kit-with-selectable-CM4-p-5680.html

Huh, why did my HA suddenly detect an Airware device. I don't have one, didn't even know the brand until the notification.
Do you have bluetooth enabled?
Nope, only zigbee via z2m as wireless protocol, but that's definitely locked
Is it just me or are RGBWW lights still fucked and arenโt able to accept color temperature commands if they allow RGB and W on at the same time?
Sorry, "awair", not "airware"
that will only get discovered if an awair device is connected to your local network.
its discovered through zero-config
I have seen this issue that for some reason other devices like dell laptops are now using the same DHCP range as awair devices
Haven't found time to remove that from the manifest
yeah, I saw that, too, but I really don't have such a device in my network
don't see one with avahi-browse either
I have a RIPE Atlas probe in a VLAN that HA has access to, but I don't think that it can spoof zeroconf
for any nerds using esphome with sonoff s31 wifi plugs or other plugs using uart, we have yet another breaking change (yay) not allowing us to update.
example code:
uart:
rx_pin: RX
baud_rate: 4800
parity: EVEN
``` you need the parity line now^
oh โฆ this? "macaddress": "70886B1*"
Is that from the manifest?
Yes
I configured a bond interface on a laptop that generated a matching MAC
want me to send a PR or is that more effort?
You can create a PR, but be aware that the CI might complain that you need to remove more fields from a generated file
I bought a new Yolink lever lock because it touts HA compatibility. But just 1 day later it's no longer being listed on Amazon lol.
I hope that doesn't mean something bad. I might return it anyways because the silver U300 is finally available.
Newbie here with a couple of questions. I am considering using HA to manage systems at a church. 1) is this allowable under the license? 2) Is this an appropriate use?
Yes and yes.
Thank you, Is there a sub-group that discusses small business integration?
Not really, but there's posts on that in the history of this server, and on the forum
You can find the community forum here
Here #1284966353798697001 can probably get you started with sane hardware choices
thanks agin
Dose someone here have knowledge about the Button+ or momentary buttons in combination with MQTT? Im Struggling to get a damn button working as intended^^" I already posted a question in the support channel for hardware, but I don't know if this was the right place
integrations is likely the best channel
unless it's from z2m
that... actually makes a lot more sense then hardware
how do i get added to this server
you are added to this server...
See too id:customize
is there an easy way to manually set a color temperature on a bulb instead of having to use the slider?
i just deleted everything cause you typed ๐คฃ
hello i have trouble to integrate the PNI thermostats in homeassistant, how can i do that
The #1284966582375813201 channel can help, most likely
(as long as they're not Zigbee or Z-Wave - that'd be #1284966617670881350)
thanks for the info. i was able to get it working correctly in the actions panel. now i just need to figure out how to tie that into a scene
The #1284980040940912641 channel can help if you need it
thanks!
So I have this weird issue. I am running HA on a pi4 1gb off a 128gb m.2 with a usb. I have the SSH addon, tailscale and adguard running and a couple of esphome power plugs. When it boots it works brilliantly but after a while it becomes unresponsive and the SSD activity led goes solid. The weird thing this time is that I can't open the dash or ssh into it but I can ping it through tailscale and use it as an exit node to access other stuff in my network.
I guess it still technically works for what I need but still it's weird
hmm WLED doesnt show up in #1284966353798697001 .. is that the right tech for a simple LED strip controlled by HA? does anyone have a controller they recommend?
(just playing around/test concept so)
it is an integration
babe it's hue update day
you're late to the party, spent to much time fixing esphomes breaking changes
here's me bitching about esphome breaking changes (this morning)
I never get Hue updates because I block all hue from the Internet because, well, they work just fine as they are and that whole Hue debacle is still fresh in my mind lol
spicy
the updates come from z2m
(or zha)
best i can do is:
force you to edit your yaml on every device
^esphome, probably
what is? WLED?
Yea, I still haven't migrated all my Hue to Zigbee yet, it's on the very long list of things to do
I think he miss understood your q
WLED is for making custom LED strips that will work with or without HA
it's not a 'preferred choice', it's just a choice
it's really more of a lifestyle
And it's an integration for HA, rather than a hardware piece.
im down to 21 instances
I'm still around ~10
Which is what I believe Sonoma was attempting to point out.
It's kind of both
they are all frankensteins
wled is a heavy word and you can buy pre-flashed wled controllers
or pre-flashed bulbs with wled (athom) LG
yah, wled is the software that runs on DIY hardware, that has a integration that interfaces with HA
In the context of HA, WLED is an integration and that is where help should go.
WLED would not go into hardware for support.
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/765737784949866516/1296263052609458207/IMG_3076.mov i added my soundbar to hyperHDR to see if i'd like the added light.. look how well it syncs over wifi lol
ignore my shit wiring it's on the list
Well, I think their questions are more around where to start with WLED, not so much adding it to HA. That's how I read it, however you already know my skimming abilities
That's running over wifi? I just straight up put an old pi behind my tv
Yea I thought he did too. What's an easy way to integrate them? I'm headed to microcenter. Maybe they will have something
do you mean build them yourself or make them work with HA?
What did you use for that color matching on the TV? I've been considering doing that for years and there are some pre-made kits that do it but I have a mess of old pi's sitting around
i have a d1 mini esp8266 connected to soundbar and another esp8266 connected behind tv both running wled then those are controlled by hyperHDR in an LXC on proxmox (but it ran fine as an haos addon) and then nvidia shield tv (android tv) runs "android hyperion grabber" which sends the screen data to hyperhdr. so i dont actually have any hdmi passthru fuckery and works at 4k60fps
I'm installing HA for the first time today. I thought getting some LEDs to test would be good
Also have kasa dimmers to try
Ok, but WLED needs to have hardware to run on, so are you buying pre made devices with WLED or are you planning on making your own LED strips out of various parts?
also it works with youtube or at least does if you use smart tube instead :x and then plex and live channels - pretty sweet. it wouldnt work on like a ps5 connected via hdmi tho
Id like to start with premade for testing. Doesn't need to be WLED just something controllable by HA
I'd start by looking for recommendations in #1284966353798697001 then
there's many different options, WLED is mostly not premade
You have WiZ which is like $50
there's other brands, but hardware may have better suggestions
Ah ok. I hear WiZ is good. Had a hard time searching in hardware tho maybe it was cause wled
I wouldn't search, just ask a question and people will slowly reply over a few days
I'd explicitly say "I'm not looking for DIY strips"
in my experience, at least with my older unifi APs, they do not love a ton of clients on them, even if they are not using much airtime
I see. Also wonder what microcenter has. If anything. What's the term of the controller I'm looking for?
last time i looked they only sold outdated stuff for leds
that and, typically "controller based" led stuff is in the DIY territory
https://dig2go.info/ you can buy one of these preflashed with wled and it comes with an led strip
home assistant will automatically discover it and it has a built in mic and sound reactivity built into it
ooh, is that new?
not really
but it's a bit more polished and in a nice injection molded case
and can actually handle 3amps from the usb port
This is what I got for WLED, then bought a strip to go with it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BPYR92YP
Ooh. Thanks @hollow glacier
i just setup a guy's house with 4 of them in his kitchen and one in his laundry room lol.. way simpler than a bunch of wiring from like a dig quad
his stuff is kind of pricey imo
Yea, but it works well and has nice config options
wish I saw that before I set my parents lights up
ya they're nice lil controllers but still limited to 3amp so limited use cases
watched a video about this thing. https://www.amazon.com/MagWLED-1-Controller-USB-C-Delivery-Pre-Installed/dp/B0CYKYDH64
DIY ESP32-C3 based controller for the Open Source WLED software. This controller has several unique features, including the ability to drive 12V LED strips from USB chargers and battery banks that support 12V USB Power Delivery. The tiny form factor and high power output makes it an excellent cho...
apparently with it being sold out, others did too lol
think it was like low $20's
Good strip suggestions? Is FCOB worth it?
ws2814 24v fcob from btf lighting at 768 or w/e density are really good right now but you need a controller able to do 24v
cob leds are neat to look at but I wouldn't use them but for specific use cases
#diy-archived message old pics i shared
Because of power requirements?
this has ws2814 fcob 24v behind it running wled on a dig uno
Hmm. So need to find one of your cool USBc controllers that does 24v
cobs are generally more expensive
there are none
unless you are planning to use them in a way where you are going to be facing the strip I don't see any benefits of cobs to warrant the downsides
thats my opinion tho
is that some random ikea fixture you ripped apart?
i think it's a left over prop from an SG1 episode
aparently they were commisioned by an artist there are two of them one sec
I was just curious
oof
maybe it was from stargate atlantis
the first one is better ๐
with a dumb 110v bulb spliced into an extension cord mounted at the top
i was considering an athom wled bulb mounted on top but i tried the ws2814 fcob in a triangle facing up and they provide a decent amount of light (like linked via ddp on his wlan)
the client was a little disappointed in the lost light coming out the top of them but didnt want me to redo them
this was the inside
ill be honest the 5v led pucks he used put out more light than what i redid it with
that's a clusterfuck in there
Artist <> Electrical Genius ๐
this is what i went with
who uses <> for !=
Sign, judgey judgey
SQL developers
it came with those metal tabs welded as heatsink/mounts?
I was JUST LITERALLY writing a big SQL query when I responded, sue me
i called them fins/paddles but ya i mounted the shortest fcob strip i could (1 section aka 6 leds) on each paddle
they're individually addressable.. per every 6
then i split those up into 3 virtual segments in home assistant
the diffusion of the accent light looks pretty weak
well i split it into top / middle / bottom sections so in home assistant if he clicks top it will turn on/off just the leds facing upwards, middle does the frosted area, then bottom does the two strips down the side
that looks like my desk
I actually have a desk now, but I used to do everything on carpet in a random room
my desk only has what i need on it lol
Me, tbh.
but i dont have a huge work surface like a workbench so i put it all on the floor.. with stuff i was gonna use right away closer to me
Even worse, /=
no better way to make electronics than on a surface that naturally generates static electricity
See, @fathom sparrow it can be EVEN WORSE! ๐
still think it's a stargate show prop
static electricity is a myth by big electric
I know i've seen it in one
i've never owned a static band in my life
i will not tempt the thermal glass gods with ceramic tiles tho
You can make electricity for free? Witch!
I was helping a buddy put in his new 16GB video card and I asked "do you have a static band?"....
Hardwood floors are a natural insulator. Lol
I'm surface agnostic
This is everything thatโs wrong with our generation. lol static bands. Psh.
I'm NOT EQUAL TO agnostic
Did I just do a sugar scrub and lotion my hands just so I could take photos of swag?
Yes, yes I did.
don't tell me it's an HA engagement ring swag?
i guess a "promise" ring would be more accurate
Hahaha no it's just not that large.
oh good. could almost already see the nerds using them in a captain planet skit, "Earth.. Fire.. Wind.. Water.. Home Assistant!"
Welp now I need to make that happen....
omg what did I just walk into....
yeah...
Good chance that there is shitposting happening in here more than anything else, so it's good to just expect raccoons.
I really want to hate google in so many ways, well I do hate them, but I really like some of their services, but the whole change to chrome just makes me so annoyed in regards to ad blockers,its like they want us back in the late 90's where there were so many ads you couldn't even navigate
yeah I know, creature of habbit I am, instead I just installed adblock home in a docker, can filter out other stuff that my 13 year trys to get too
Or if you like Chrome then download SW Iron, it's an up-to-date build of Chrome stripped of all of Google's crap
whole house adblockers bring extra issues to the table
Like what? I love my Pi-Hole (which sounds dirty, I know, but I do)
like when your power goes out everything needs to boot up in a specific order or shit hits the fan
Ok, I can see where that's an annoyance but it's pretty minor, I have Pi-Hole running on it's own VM on Ubuntu and it starts up and is running in < 30 seconds
I use Vivaldi myself.
I also use Brave, Firefox and Safari, but Iron is totally Chrome without Google, which is good for development
It always seems to happen when I'm out of town and then I lose access to HA
Even if it starts late, HA should come back with it, at least it does for me
Thanks for reminding me that I was in the middle of updating my HA instance.
not if your network is pointing to it as the dns server
Mine retries, my network is 100% referencing my Pi-Hole as DNS
I only use adblock/PIhole for DHCP DNS servers, if they are static IP's I use an external DNS
I have my key systems use Pi-Hole as primary and then a public secondary just in case, but yea it's mostly for our internal browsing as much as anything but I've trapped LOADS of Chinese phone-home's by routing everything through Pi-Hole
The only time it's a PITA is when I have to update Pi-Hole and we are down for 5 minutes. The world feels like it's ending but it's all set straight in 5 minutes ๐
I used to have that issue when I ran IPfire as VM(yes I know bad idea) but I was being lazy and didn't want to buy a new router
My firewall does the heavy lifting but Pi-Hole helps me with the low hanging fruit. I have all kinds of groups and rules to prevent things from calling home but it helps to know the exact query that was sent so I better understand the reason for the behavior
the trick is to walk away then forget you clicked update then wonder why the lights arent turning on. or so i've heard
Once a month I toggle the smart switch attached to my UPS to test batteries and failsafe and all of that and wonder the same thing in 30 minutes when the entire backbone is offline ๐
LMAO I update mostly when I am working.
Looks like you have an interruptible power supply.
I usually get about 3 years out of batteries before I have to swap them out
it technically still works
i lost power and it let my server shut down after 5min
i looked it up i need to go to a local batteries+ place and have them help swap over
apparently APC have a special battery carriage or something
Changing batteries out is very easy, I have almost all APC
If it's a 2U, the battery pack is usually just four 9Ah 12V batteries in a plastic/metal case.
The only thing you have to be careful about is putting them back in the right way (especially because some of APCs are 24V 2S2P and some are 48V 4S1P)
Also you want to go somewhere that sells a LOT of batteries, because lead-acid batteries die just sitting on the shelf. Don't buy anything that was manufactured more than 6 months ago
Yeah, that's just two batteries taped together
There'll be a little wire jumper between the + of one and - of the other under that C-shaped plastic cover
That's how Cyberpower and APC batteries are, there is a metal tape holding them together and sometimes a plastic frame they sit in, it's about 15 minutes to swap out
https://www.batteriesplus.com/store-locator/tx/irving/batteries-plus-150 this place looks pretty good
Come visit your local Batteries Plus store at 2703 N Beltline Rd, irving, TX. We offer batteries, light bulbs, key fob replacements, chargers, etc.
BP is a where I drop off all deads
Two of these is what you need: https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/battery/sla-sealed-lead-acid/12/sla12=9f2
damn that's gonna be expensive
i have two of the same ups bought at the same time so 4 of them
You can get offbrands on Amazon pretty cheap, they've served me fairly well honestly
if it's only like a $10 difference per battery i'd buy the better one i guess
Shame you don't have four UPSs; you get 22% off for buying a full box of eight ๐
For $10 I would too, it's generally way more than that though, off brands can be 25-50% off a Duracell
Most of the time it's the same people selling batteries under different names, Duracell puts a heavy markup on that name
I have three of those and the biggest issue with them is that when the battery dies, the unit just completely shuts down. It's unusable with dead or no batteries
It cannot operate in pass-through mode
My last replacements on my batteries was 2022 (still going strong, I had a power outage last week and everything was perfect), they are Mightymax I got on Amazon for $36.00 a pair - 7.2AH 12V
https://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Max-Battery-ML9-12-Rechargeable/dp/B00K8V2Y8W looks like this one?
Yup
They have served me well. According to Amazon I've purchased those 6 times and I've not had any reason to complain. I think i did get one dud once, and got a replacement the next day so no big deal.
HI there! for wifi connection problem what is the best channel?? thanks!!
If you can get the connector to come loose. I got stuck on one replacement because it just wouldn't let go.
They just die? Before scheduled self test?
the shock here is that it hadn't happened much much much much sooner
just better to assume all food that isn't prepared by your own hands will be tainted in some form or another
But it isn't better?????
lmao
SAFER sure.
But it is not good that we cannot trust food made for us.
x.x
Fast food? ๐
have you seen the faces of the people who work in those fast food places these days? there is almost no life behind thier eyes lol
Do they still serve big macs?
we ate at a golden corral the other day.. I think jumping from an airplane without a chute had slightly better odds of survival
That's the buffet place right?
yea
What do they have there?
I make big batches of waffles and freeze them. Frozen waffles. Safe, delicious, plentiful, easy.
I did that for a living, jumping out of planes is perfectly safe - I trust it more than driving.
Chicken Posole eh?
lol yโall assuming I eat at McDonaldโs.
I was sharing for those who do. I havenโt eaten there in decades.
i hear it's a hard job
Oh a PSA
I like McD's sometimes, every once in a while it's a treat
Their coffee at 2AM is good.
Can't forget, when everything was shutdown at airports during covid, MCD coffee was it.
This grosses some folks out, but I miss being in the south and grabbing a White Castle grey steamed slider
Mmmm, White Castle!
Oh boy.
I never left my house.
I didn't fly for like 40 days. Those were the days. 8 passengers per flight.
I hardly go out now.
At least my airline appreciated the business during those years.
But why?
Because people suck.
They canโt drive, theyโre inconsiderate, theyโre gross, and Iโd rather not deal.
๐
I agree. This is why I stay home during summer and school holidays.
I don't wanna try and unsee things.
I travel very selectively.
I prefer to take my RV rather than to fly, it's got all my shit, is as automated as my house so I can geek out in it, and it feels like home in a different place
Iโd take that, too.
I can't do RV. I tried.
I wonโt fly unless forced to. Like going to Hawaii.
This event next week.
Company trips.
If I canโt get there by driving or train, I donโt plan it. This is why I like living in Washington state. Lots to do here.
But no tropical beaches.
If airports would work flying would be actually enjoyable
Also give me my peanuts back
ffs why do i have to keep logging in to HA now
I don't like being crammed into an airplane for hours upon hours. We're thinking of going to Scotland for Christmas for a few weeks, I'm not looking forward to the flight but I am the trip
Flying to the UK next year will be the longest flight Iโve done.
Hawaii from here is a slog at 6 hours, not looking forward to more.
i got an old tablet that cannot install the HA app so i use the web dashboard, dont think I have logged in more than 5 times in 6 years, I have been forced to login 5 times in the last two days
Did you check if you have changed a setting to allow cookies?
nothing has changed apart from an HA OS and core update
No problems on my end staying logged in on my phone, tablet or computer
I saw people complaining about a Chrome update earlierโฆ
Canโt recall what the specifics were, thoughโฆ
odd cos the tablet itself has not been updated
Chrome can auto update if thatโs set up. Normally requires a restart, though.
nah everything like that is shut down - it cannot go out on the internet
MY BROWSER EXPERTISE IS USEFUL FOR ONCE
Well rude.
LMAO
well protected ๐
My worst was at the start of 2018, headed to the US on a work trip. 4 flights each way with <2h at each stop, took around 29 hours there and 31 hours home.
Wellington -> Auckland (1h) -> Houston (15h) -> Atlanta (2h) -> Savannah (2h)
Savannah -> Chicago (2h) -> San Francisco (5h) -> Auckland (13h) -> Wellington (1h)
The best part though was arriving at ~01:30 and my colleague and I being tired as hell, and getting "upgraded" to a giant SUV.
I lost rock-paper-scissors for who was going to make the ~25mi drive to the hotel
I think it knows its about to be replaced by ESPHome ๐
i have a 7 inch touchscreen coming on a boat from China - going to make a new LVGL display to replace the HA dashboard
Wha?
Don't want to age faster? Keeping to the ground? Lmao
LOL
Not to sound like I am judging other's decisions, but my choice is mostly to reduce my carbon footprint.
Oh no you didn't!!!!
LOL
Not to judge but I pick low C flights you know.
I really don't judge people for doing what capitalism allows them to.
I blame the capitalism instead. ๐
Now now. You gotta love it.
Only because we have to...
Been around a "little bit", I wouldn't trade it for anything, anything at all.
I definitely want to travel more.
I want to have the freedom to go on months long trips using boats.
And not cruise ships, smaller things.
Oh no, not cruises
Cruise ships are petri dishes.
imagine being stuck somewhere with thousands of old people and no way off
8 years and I will be doing this.
My teammate was on a cruise ship when the US locked down for COVID. He was on the ship for over a week before they let them off.
Yikes.
Right?
there were ppl in the EU trapped for months
Around Greece would be the only seas I would meddle with. 1 day at that.
there were ships with loads of positive tested ppl onboard so they wouldnt let them dock
I get motion sick so easy but also I want to learn how to sail.
My Ambition Gremlin is excessive sometimes.
You would have liked eating there. The stuff sat in those trays under heat lamps long enough to look somewhat like the shit you post in the kitchen channel haha
including the stuff that was still moving on the plate!
No, I am good.
This is the only buffet I will consider https://www.cafesierrahilton.com/menu
that does not look like a buffet at all
@forest edge did you try holding a meeting about lens licking?
Oh fun. I found a tuya device that needs and does not yet have a quirk.
huh. https://www.athom.tech/wled wonder what the analog is
ESP32 ESP8266 Addressable LED Strip Light Controller ,16A Relay Built in ,Sounds Reactive ,RF433 Built in , Analog RGBCCT Controller, WLED LED Bulb , WLED Strip Starter Kits, Neon/COB lights
yea it went a little something like this...
indeed that seems to be the case
also what are you using instead of WLED? ๐
Being a hermit has definitely helped me avoid catching covid
The new way the support channels work is making me confused...
True. Well, time for me to read up on how it works now.
A meaningful title, details about the problem in the message and choosing an appropriate tag. That is basically the magic.
More hostile responses and a lot of crossposting may grant you special privileges of paid support
More?
That's not the part I was questioning.
I am lost for words ๐ฆ
When that happens, isn't there generally a raccoon GIF to follow?!? ๐
I just wanted to say that I picked up an s3-box-3 today and itโs the biggest piece of junk Iโve ever purchased. The production quality of the housing is great, but for its function w/ home assistant itโs incredibly disappointing. Like genuinely just feels like I bought junk.
And I feel better now, admitting it.
If youโre ever on the fence, donโt do it
I have a S3-Box-3, too. But I'm looking forward for the Nabu Casa voice hardware.
Honestly, Iโm really disappointed that thereโre no good solutions out there. All diy mic/speakers seem to be terrible.
Damn this discord server is turning into a non-googleable version of the discuss forums. When did they change everything into threads?
There are a lot of problems people have with that box, so at least you are not alone. ๐
you can still search the exact same way...
You can also search like this, which is listed in every START HERE thread:
To search the contents of the forum threads, use the Global search feature. On desktop, the search box is on the top right of the window - use the in:channel + keyword formatting. On mobile, the global search box is at the very top of the channel list - search your keyword and look at the Messages results.
Yes, not from Google though
You cannot do any web search for Discord anyway.
yeah, kinda baffled by that statement
Yeah, but with threads now this looks more like a forum than a chat thing
click on a thread, it's a chat
Like there's now two discusses
An example of what would be lost to the regular chat had this person not been able to make a thread for their specific situation.
Oof that's rough
Yeah, this is the worst example, lol.
But it's very illustrative.
The forums are so that people can get the individual help they need. No one has the exact same hardware or exact same set up as another person.
yes, that's 1160 messages you probably don't want to read
I think you can still make threads or have some mod branch from the main discussion
no, that would be a fulltime job
I mean, 1160 messages
you underestimate how many posts are created a day
That sure is a full time job
that's just one of 100 posts created a day for each channel
there's almost 200k people here, all looking for help. And only ~100 people willing to help
Once you get used to the forum>topic>chat format, itโs MUCH easier to participate and help without all the noise of chats interspersed within.
That's how it was before and the problem with chat channel threads is it's almost impossible to discover if you weren't around when it was created. Forum channels allows people to help with posts that are made maybe while they are sleeping but they are the experts in that space. Now they can just glance through channels filtering with the tag they want and most people are getting helped.
To provide some data here - we've already had 1300 messages sent in this server today, down almost 300 from yesterday. It's not a quiet server. ๐
You can do that with regular text channels with Channel info > threads I think
I see a lot of confusion about really where to post things, I even have a question and have no idea where to post it right now lol. Is it hardware, is it integration, is it related tech, is it workshop? The categories seem to overlap a lot.
Yeah that's pretty wild
WELCOME TO THE CRUX OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE
Everything overlaps. The nomenclature of the product can be confusing enough.
And that cannot be solved easily with just some Discord changes and notes on what to do.
If it was, no one would be confused anymore! There is SO MUCH info now.
#find-support has a ton of info, every Support channel has a START HERE thread and Posting Guidelines.
Same. I originally came here to ask about what would be the next best supported thing to MQTT
And as soon as I post it anywhere someone is going to point me elsewhere, who might then point me elsewhere. My question can literally be any of those categories, #find-support is of no use for this, I looked ๐
Something similar to CoAP
No one can help you if you don't say what your problem is. ๐
nothing is even close to MQTT
You are even being vague, CO.
If you are in the wrong channel, we just beat you up a little bit and make an offer, you can't refuse.
I am because if I post it here it's the wrong place, lol
I'll throw a rock and put it somewhere I suppose and see where the chips fall
No.
Hey look at that, I answered fak's question and it's already lost
What do you mean? Esphome has its own thing and it's miles ahead of mqtt
Multiple people have asked where things go in here and people point them to the right space.
That's what we had and that was NOT better... questions got lost, users got annoyed, etc.
esphome is an integration and it uses HA websockets
which requires someone to write code
in HA
nothing is even close to MQTT in regards to a hands off, no code approach like MQTT is
Mine is about Frigate, which is 3rd party, but it's also an integration. It's also hardware with the Google Coral. ๐
MQTT is king when it comes to message brokering.
I am fairly sure that's been asked a lot and we've been pushing people towards integrations.
What? It uses a custom protobuff protocol, idk where you got the websockets part
-# I really did try to cover literally everything y'all.
I don't know why I never saw that channel until now
Hmmm, it's hidden without your direct link
it uses aioesphomeapi, which connects over a web socket...
It is a thread in the #find-support channel
Yea, I just noticed that
Problem with frigate is they push all their support here because they don't want to support a discord channel when they should be
Then Missy needs to stop farting around playing COD all day and put some damn Frigate channels up ๐
We should just create a frigate discord and let it rot, someone else can take care of it
Ok, every Google product made... ๐
#notourproblem
Excuse me Iโm not toxic enough for COD.
You could be if you put just a little effort into it, slacker
it does get you good at combining swear words
I'm already good at that, generally by mistake
This is what Iโve been playing lately. https://spiritteagame.com/
Wait until we meet in person. Youโll see how much I filter myself. ๐
Itโs a lot harder to while speaking.
I'll join in on the swearing
Oh shitfuckpissmotherofallraccoonballs, are you planning a meet and greet with me? I haven't even shaved today, my suit isn't pressed, I'm out of breath mints and my propeller beanie is at the repair shop.
See, I can do it ๐
I have to be semi professional.
That doesn't stop @fathom sparrow ๐
what the fuck you going on about?
Nothing, back in your troll cave
I temporarily disabled the ability to register new accounts on the forums. We have an influx of seemingly bot accounts today for some reason.
It'll be back on in 6 hours.
^bots, probably
Can we eradicate the @real frigate bot? That one is like a bad penny. While at it, kill off that annoying @azure rock bot too, it's a real bastard.
Allowing me to flex the ban hammer. Noice.
This Discord is so much nicer now, what was that other thing called, the HA Forums? ๐ง
Damn thing is addicting, stop it!
Missy? That is clearly a bot! A human user would have complained.
savd
so I have a 'end0' and a 'wlan0' network interface. I'm thinking about setting up a different wireless network for my 'IoT' devices, would setting that to wlan0 and using the ethernet 'end0' for management be an ok configuration? or will that make HA go silly
wlan0 might not have much internet access now that i think about it
it might cause issues if you rely on mdns
and it's technically "not supported"
however I do it
You don't usually hotspot a wifi for your iot devices
Waitโฆ I still have a forum account?! lmao
Hush it bot, we're talking Discord here
Iโm not a bot. Iโm a LLM and as such, I can only answer questions and inquiries about stuff.
But I might evolve. Maybe. lol
You drive a mini, just how large can you possibly be?
Then reality set in, I get it, never had that problem myself but I know others have
Well, at your ageโฆ
snort
LOL, we're close to the same age twit
Grandpa, what was it like when the dinosaurs ruled the earth?
I thought you were.
Physicallyโฆ maybe. Mentally?! Psh. Youโre like 1500 years my senior.
I do that to my wife all the time "at your advanced years" and she gets huffy and I remind her she's 2 years younger than me so she cannot say a word ๐
lmao
Then shouldn't all communication with me start with and end with "sir"? I beleive so! ๐
My husband is 7 years my senior so I have been joking about getting him a walker since he was 25.
Yea, she won't play that game with me because I play it far better on her!
No. That would require respect and we all know that us teenagers have none of that. lol
Plus I use my age against her: "what do you mean you want to go to bed at 9pm, I'm way older and I'm good to stay up longer"
I still need to get those Golden Coral old people discount cards....
Tbf I do go to bed at 9 and my husband is up until 11.
But I have drugs that make me eepy.
And a regular bed time routine...
We have a very regular bed routine, she just gives up early sometimes and I have to remind her "You'll be up at 3" then she realizes that its too early
Ah yeah my average sleep time is 7-8 hours, so 9-10 is my sweet spot.
Wake up between 5 and 6.
I have a wyze cam v3 and it's been going offline for some odd reason so I have to restart the camera physically to turn on.
Now I added a smart plug to it so I can restart the camera by toggling the plug on/off.
Is there a way I can automate if the camera loses current to restart the plug automatically?
Yes, so long as your smart plug reports current you can use that as a numeric trigger in automation: if watts < 3 then restart
I do the same for over wattage issues on refrigerators, if watts > X then power off for 1 minute and power back on
to be fair, google search in general is broken, lol
The only thing I wish was different in the forum format is is for the topic list to be much much more condensed than it is.
That's a nice discount.
Stepdad is an airline pilot, so I got the company discount when I was young.
Suggestions for an easy way to control my two heaters (one 400W and one 1300W)? I need a weekly schedule but I also need them to turn on when I'm suddenly working from home, either by a button or by presence detection. They're Mill ovens so I'm using the local integration.
Surely someone has done the dirty job of making it easy for others? ๐
if you have them in HA through an integration then i don't understand what you are asking. If you are asking what the best method for triggering them through HA then you will want to ask in #1284966353798697001
What is โsuddenly working from homeโ??? Is that like your heater burned down the office and its remote for the next few weeks? ๐คฃ
I'm just curious how other people set it up. It sounds tedious to manually set up automations.
@real frigate hehe... more like I wake up and I'm too tired to go to work ๐
Thatโs not suddenlyโฆ thatโs pre planned the night before. lol
Until now I've used the cloud based weekly schedule for the heaters and a button panel for "turn off heaters for 1 - 8 hours" by the door. But they've changed the API a bit which causes them not to turn on again. So I need to convert to local.
less fancy space heaters + smart plug work like a charm
These are actually nicer though since they have PID
if I want some help brainstorming some approaches to data ingestion and a dashboard, do I post that as a thread in the help forums?
Transformers One is my new favorite Transformers movie. SO GOOD.
They're still making those?
Yup. This one was animated and the โoriginโ one. Have to admit, for a Michael Bay movie, it was done really well.
Transformers movies are like Jurassic Park sequels - there's always another one coming, probably with Chris Pratt
To be fair, I don't really hear about stuff on TV. I spend most of my time gaming and never see ads.
Hahaha it was a bit weird hearing Chris Hemsworth as Optimus.
Needs to have the council of Chris. Hemsworth, Pine, Pratt, and... crap, who was the fourth Chris?
Pine. lol
that movie was made for ages under 10
Shitโฆ Lmao I can read. Yup.
Iโฆ donโt think so.
Ah, Chris Evans was the other one.
Yeahโฆ him!!! Thanks. lol Also, yes.
there was a great opening musical number on SNL about the four Chrises
But, it was a good flic. Lots of funny moments and itโs supposed to be โcanonโ.
can you mod someone else blue print
if it's saved locally, sure. Just edit the file and remove the source URL portion
if this works i mite publish this one
good ole open source
yup! If you want to publish it, I'd just fork their repo :D (if they have one. I know a lot of blueprints are just using Gists instead of proper repos)
someone please refill the soda stream, it's lacking bubbles
I'm a bit confused - do we or do we not need to add a resources url to configuration.yaml for HACS installs? Because they all worked beforehand without me needing to add resource urls but now they've vanished on my /config/lovelace/resources directory
For what exactly
Installing hacs works by following the extensive guide on their site
For things that hacs serves it's just clicking the install button
#1284965988642590891 can help with that though
all my frontend resources have stopped working, i have no idea why - more information in my ticket here https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1298961737302675537
I didn't I just asked a general question and I referenced it, not trying to spam hence why I referenced the ticket to move it there.
Generally stuff doest just disappear, you can try reinstalling the integrations in question and see if that brings it back
Try to get non invasive way to track presence of iphone with random Mac addresse change: {{ (state_attr('sensor.network_scanner', 'devices') | selectattr('hostname', 'match', 'Vanessa') | list | length > 0 )}}
Set it to not be random?
Non invasive on m'y way means no interaction from any poplele device, dont want to ask any home resident to set their phone to static Mac addresse only for my need
You can't track a device that's deliberately has anti-tracking measures in place... unless you disable the anti-tracking measures
Randomised MAC addresses are a feature, not a bug.
I agree with that but the hostname are fix and i able to track this way and seem to work
Yeah, if you've found a static property to use, that's perfect
Anyone know what kind of cards dwain's dashboard uses? I'm trying to get my calendar to span across both rows and columns but I only get the option to span across columns
And that dashboard has the option for both
Ah darn it. Thank you
Unrelated, your profile pic is adorable.
Lol, thanks!
Hey guys i was wondering what precautions you guys take to account for fire risk?
No smoking
A lot of the automation you can do such as turning on the washing machine when you're away is cool and can save you a ton of money but firefighters here recommend to not turn high wattage machines like this on while you're not home
What do you guys think?
You have to use your judgement for these things. I wouldn't run a dryer or oven when I'm not at home, but my washing machine has a scheduled/delayed start feature built into it which means that it was designed to be started and run without a human nearby. Obviously I'll want to be home to empty it so it might start while I'm out, but it won't run for hours without someone being around
The US food pyramid also shows all the quantities of food you should eat, yet few dietitians actually agree with those ratios. Take the risks you feel comfortable with. A washing machine running when I'm not home doesn't concern me as much as the open flame on a candle (I'm talking to you wife....) going when I'm not home.
Quite frankly every electrical appliance is a fire risk, period. The primary reason a dryer might be more is if you don't clean your lint exhaust tube.
I believe that the food pyramid is based on lobbying from Big Grain
Thanks for the in-depth answers people!
how dare you question that twinkies are good for you!
This old food guide was a crime
Is there a way to make it so when I click on my calendar card, it will bring up the larger calendar in the side bar?
I have a data source system that I'm thinking about integrating with HA. They have options to stream to MQTT, but unfortunately I don't have access to that. My thoughts are, either I can build a simple MQTT plugin for this app & then manually configure the sensors in HA. Or, I could attempt to build an HA component that reads from the API. The only issue is that with the custom component route, you'd be getting repeat data (timestamp-value) for many devices if you only pull on a periodic basis, unless you keep track of the last timestamp and only update HA if a new value comes in.
The developer docs give an overview of how they recommend handling state updates: https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/core/entity#updating-the-entity
It looks like I can auto create sensors, so that would probably be better than pushing the data
Specifically there is a force_update which defaults to false. So if something has a value of 42 and force_update is false, when the "new" state is also 42 HA won't see that as update.
Gotcha. Yeah, and when I state that, I could be talking thousands of devices. So ideally, I'd only grab the changes from the datasource, which would technically be better with a push vs a pull. But this looks pretty easy to integrate on HA's side, so I may test that first
If you could use MQTT I'd highly recommend that. If not then you could try the REST integration. But HA has a lot of choices. There might already be a custom component that integrates with whatever system this is.
dreaming about mustard again?
There is for MQTT. It's just behind a paywall. And I'm not paying $1000+/yr. But I can write my own if needed.
That yellow group + mustard, no Bueno
don't say bueno, always reminds me of this skit https://youtu.be/LMITWgmJV2g?si=WFLjrubn-5C-PyM9
Kinder bueno
Not sure where the best place for this is, please let me know, but i am wondering if anyone has figured out how to fix the broken custom HACS tapo camera integration, i know there are ways around it by down-versioning the camera's, but i also know there are people who have fixed it in the software, has anyone here fixed it this way or could point me in some direction to do so myself?
IMHO you should be able to make a post in #1284966582375813201
I was wondering, is there a smart button pusher that can move around?
my parents have this old oven which is hard to remove/replace and i was thinking of allowing preheating the oven from a distance lmao
at whatever temperature you want
I mean it can be done through complex means, there may even be wifi ovens out there that can be controlled via app and therefore via HA but you will have to take to google and go on a hunt. there is no device that can just move around and control buttons and dials of traditional ovens
inherently this can be a dangerous thing to do, if the oven was to be accidently turned on and forgotten about..
quick google search shows they do make smart ovens so through that means.. for sure.. otherwise to convert an older oven can be done as well, just more complex and possibly something that will require you to do some coding/soldering etc
i'm a professional programmer so the former part doesn't bother me
well with devices like esp/pi pico/pi's ect.. it could be done'
Seems like there are some options with regards to 3d printed arms and fingerbot plus, hmmm
yea but those might also be in the way should you want to actually do it by hand lol
What are you suggesting exactly?
Giving certain electrical signals?
well any button, dial has leads going to them to the main control board, you can middle man those connections using something like what I listed above
Hmmmm
I will need to experiment with that kind of stuff i'm not good with electricity and wires at all right now
Waay too much of a software guy lmao
thats why i said more complex lol
So preheat to same temp all the time?
Yea I do see this HA stuff as an opportunity to become more proficient with stuff like that
Just with the press of a button
I'm not concerned with the software part just the mechanical element
Yes
So where does this one button come in?
It's a microwave oven so you need to select the actual oven setting first
Oh
Must be so, for safety.
Yep
You can use button pushers to keep it simple.
It was just that i was expecting there'd be some kind of smart switch that could slide left to right
For example
I would take the button panel out and bypass the buttons using an esp
Maybe that's way more advanced than I think it is
Pretty simple
Yea the other person earlier suggested that
just buy a smart microwave oven from a brand that already has an HA intergration.. would make it much more simple lol
I will consider this but I am afraid this particular model doesn't really let you just take the panel out
You can take a hammer to anything
Yea this was an option from the start
They do need a new oven honestly
Best solution so far
as much as I grown to dislike LG as a "quality" product.. the HA integration for their appliances seem to work well. my fridge/dishwasher and washing machine/dryer all seem to have plenty of controls through the HA intergration without much issues
it was rocky in the start, but they seemed to ironed out some of the kinks lol
Love LG, integration rocks as well
Washer/dryer busy and TTS is great, I think. Lol
"Your underwear is now dry"
What is TTS? Text to speech?
Yes
Is that local network only or does it go via LG servers?
it's cloud. but all of them are for appliances
I have no idea how laundry happens at the house, but I guess.
I don't either, I just know I set up automation to let the person that does know how it happens know when it's happened
Oh the irony. I bought a hue dimmer switch to make switching hue bulbs over from hue to ZHA easier, figured I'd just bind the dimmer to hue for now until I do the full migration.
Hue's website for adding accessories is down. I literally couldn't add it to hue. So now I have a reason to migrate sooner.
In case anyone is looking for some really neat ESP-based pixel clocks: The Ulanzi TC001 flashed with Awtrix... chef's kiss
For me I only have to disconnect it from the Hue hub and then try to pair it with Zigbee within a minute or so of turning it on. Doesn't that work for you?
Haven't tried, just read a bunch of people complaining that it wasn't working and they needed the dimmer to get the bulb into pairing mode. Figured I wanted the dimmer anyway, so may as well.
Also, turns out the reason I couldn't add it to hue is because my phone is outdated. Android 9.
I'll update eventually...
Doing the remote Hue remote method takes patience... I got good enough at it that I know the perfect amount of distance and time to flash any Hue bulb now. lol
Nobody wants to hear how you flash your electronics. Come on man!
lmao Please visit my OnlyHueFlashingFans page!!!
I did, it was a bit dim for my taste
ta dum hiss Actually... that was solid man... lol
I added the dimmer to hue using my SO's phone. Realized it'd probably have a firmware update, and it does.
I'll switch it back to ZHA after it's updated. :P
I've got all my hue blocked from the Internet, I haven't tried to pair the remaining bulbs, but I'm hoping lack of knowledge about any updates prevents such frustrations.
I have all the networked features disabled other than automatic firmware updates, but that means I have literally no way to purge unused/outdated API keys from the bridge, since they blocked being able to do that offline.
Not that you need to, but I like my devices tidy.
I blocked mine since before their big debacle, fingers crossed. It's on my "one of these days" list
Far as I know you need the bridge to apply firmware updates. I don't think you can apply them through ZHA. Otherwise I'd sell off my bridge when I do migrate.
But yeah, I don't like their increasing attempts to get at my data.
Someone on here posted all the ZHA notices for FW updates on their batch of Hue's, totally disconnected
There you go. Laundry Bliss
You can install all the updates via Zigbee2MQTT too. https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/usage/ota_updates.html#ota-updates
Yea, I didn't think the hub was needed, which surprised me too
Yeah, but I don't want to touch z2m if I can avoid it. I'd rather host all devices under ZHA.
Like I said, whoever posted used ZHA
Personally I prefer Z2M, it's nice to be able to add a new device super quickly.
Yeah, I'll have to look into that. Definitely useful to know.
Plus all the things that don't quite follow standards just work because the whole community puts the effort in.
Seems to be a split camp of HA users. I've been super happy with ZHA, no problems really
Same. ZHA has been smooth and flawless.
I started with ZHA and ran into some problems with some brand new devices that weren't supported there yet, but Z2M already had them. Jumped ship and never looked back. Plus there's separation so if I ever screw up HA I can still control everything.
I've had exactly one (Tuya) device that needed a custom quirk, and it's a crap device that seems to have gone unresponsive on me anyway, so no big loss there.
(solar rain sensor)
I tried Tuya once, I still can't sleep after the experience
Didn't want to split the check?
Other than routers being a grab bag quality-wise, I've only had issues with the one device I already mentioned.
Weirdly my most reliable router at the moment is a tuya luminance sensor. It's more reliable than the dedicated tuya routers even.
Well, reliable is the wrong word. I've had no reliability issues. But I've had shit signal issues from two routers.
Actually, does anyone have any specific recommendations for zigbee routers? Dedicated or not, idc, long as they're decent.
Guess I could open a help thread asking that, but meh.
That's where you'd get those recommendations
yay my rpi's sd card died overnight
guess I'll be reinstalling everything later today
might as well migrate to a nuc while I'm at it
4 out of 5 known experts HIGHLY Encourage this move.
at the very least switch from sd card to ssd via usb
Feels like living in the stone age, turning lights off and on by hand
Pi5 (and I think Pi4?) has an M.2 hat, so no need to go the USB route.
Looks like it may just be Pi5. Single lane PCIe 2.0
it's usb3 so unless you got some particular like for using that, a usb3 to sata cable will be much cheaper and the speeds will be the same.
the only downside which you might end up having to do anyways if you use dongles, is putting the drive on a powered usb hub
The M.2 hat is $12.50, so cheaper is debatable, and it can supply 3A directly with no hanging dongles.
Also I don't think a Pi can boot from USB directly, can it? Would need an SD card still. M.2 hat can direct boot.
yes it can
Huh. Admittedly never tried.
the older rpi3 needed to have a setting changed prior to enabling it but I think the rpi4 and 5 can do it without needing to do anything these days
Ahhh, that would explain it. I only got my Pi5 recently, specifically for HA. I had a 3b before.
Regardless, if you have a Pi5, I'd definitely recommend the hat (assuming you're using a 2230 or 2242)
I ran my rpi4 with an ssd directly connected for a little over a year but ultimately ended up putting it on a powered hub cause I was also using a skyconnect
not sure how many years I am going, still no issues
I have zigbee and zwave dongles connected to my USB 2 ports. Don't want to use the USB 3 since that's going to produce 2.4GHz interference that could affect my zigbee.
the hub i'm using has a lead, it dosen't sit ontop of the rpi
That helps some, long as your cable is shielded.
again, so many years, no issues lol
Fair
I don't even remember
Honestly, the only thing that I'd want to upgrade from my Pi5 for at this point is faster whisper interpretation. I tossed an 8GiB Pi5 at HA, so for everything else I'd want from it it's more than sufficient.
Though I suppose I could just run whisper on a different device.
nothing wrong with nuc's, especially if you happen to score a decent spec one on sale
I run HA/Frigate and a few other containers off a N100 nuc at my mothers. seem to chug through all that just fine
HA itself along with a few things dosen't really need much. I also run it on an RPI3 in my barn and even deal with feeds from 5 cameras. the memory on the unit never drops below 78% at any given time but it too has ran perfectly fine for 3 or 4 years now
it's running off sdcard so one day that will give me an issue but no way around that for the enviroment it sits in
I have a nuc laying around with an i3 and 4gb ish ram, maybe 8, I don't remember
I've ran my install on an rpi3 as well for years, no issues whatsoever
Just uh, keep a config backup for when the card dies lol
Lol, I just realized I can get a 128GB 2242 SATA M.2 for $16. I may grab the M.2 hat myself at that price.
No reason to bother with NVMe considering the specs on the Pi's PCIe.
Though it looks like the cheapest NVMe version of the same is only $24, so not exactly breaking the bank either way.
whatever works, the data rate is still gimped even through the pcie
so no point spending more for nothing
Oh wait, found an NVMe version for $16.50. I don't mind paying $0.50 for NVMe.
Apparently M.2 AI accelerators are a thing. Never even heard of them. But then, I don't ever touch ML stuff.
I legitimately can't think of any way one would be useful to HA, unless whisper supports it anyway.
And somehow I doubt it does.
It doesn't.
if you are still looking for patterns for carving the pumpkin this site has a crap ton. https://www.pumpkinlady.com
it's pretty much only useful for video object recognition with Frigate, but it's pretty good at that
Weird... suddenly my right speaker started making strange noises at random intervals. Sounded like an android bee stuck in a tin can.
I use an old technics mini hifi system for computer speakers, so it's probably a capacitor or something about to give up... but it also seems that 5 minutes of white noise fixed it ๐คท
Guys, some people and I are having problems with the official Tuya integration! Is there somewhere other than this github thread to report the problem?
The problem TUYA's integration with HA has been experiencing problems since yesterday, October 21, 2024. I was unable to connect (synchronize), and when I managed to connect (synchronize), the ...
The best and only place is GitHub. I can tell you I'm in Europe and am not having any issues, which points to this being a geo specific issue and very likely on Tuya's end.
TBF, there is some work on making whisper work on int based machines/chips, but I think that's gonna have to be on a bigger memory device, like the hailo stuff.
There is "supposedly" a new hailo10 coming out with 8gb of ram, but we'll see.
To be fair, Tuya goes down about once a day for me for about 5-6 minutes. Everyโฆ day.
my tuya zigbee devices don't seem to be having any issues...
They wouldn't be using the Tuya integration though. Which much like Tuya itself is more like a few misbehaving raccoons in a trench coat.
i know i was making a joke against using the tuya cloud crap
Indeed, but not everyone knows how Tuya stuff "works"
Should I IPV6
I just saw this. I didn't know it was hotspotting. I thought it was just joining
At best you would do that through vlans over a vm if it's just two network segments
Random question:
HA setup with 50 (wifi/zigbee/zwave/matter)device/sensors.
Basic automations.
How long will it run without ANY user intervention/updates?
What would fail first?
Assuming nothing is actually broken when you set it up, probably till your devices run out of battery
Nothing on battery.
