Hi, where are channels I could actually ask questions regarding HA? In support category all seems to be read-only
The topics in the support category are what are used now.
Basically treat it like a forum
Umm... sorry I'm confused, but how I can ASK question?
You click the plus button and create a topic.
Oh, a new post thing?
Yes
Thanks. See, I'm more used to direct conversation on discord and never did it before. Here I mean 🙂
LOL yeah, it’s a new experience, but much easier to support.
Do I get normal notifications as if someone would @swift raven me?
Yup.
All right, let's try then

so you aren't running intelliflo? is the thing that ties it into homeassistant the intelliflo pump, or is it just the easy touch 8 panel?
My recommendation: IntelliFlo3® VSF Top of the line (variable speed and flow). IntelliFlo VS Good all around (variable speed). I removed all control panels. Running a Pi at the pool equipment, 100x better.
is there a specific pool OS you flashed on the pi? or something custom built?
Mine is custom built since I did this years ago. Now you have options. I would go with https://github.com/tagyoureit/nodejs-poolController/wiki/DIY-Standalone-Nixie-Pool-Controller
The 2000s called. They want their interface back. lol
Way to show your age @tidal bronze 😉
This is cutting edge for pools. Where have you been?
hahaha I don’t have a pool and when I did, home automation didn’t exist 😉
Yes the UI looks janky but why would you look at it once it's integrated to HA 🙂
lol yeah, you’re not wrong… but that interface is making my eye twitch and remember 30 year old me doing UIs like that and actually being happy with myself.
Trust me, the functionality of this is 100x better than a $4500 commercial control center.
That was cutting edge AI back then 🙂
Saying " it looks like you are writing a letter" when you pressed any key on the keyboard was hardly AI 🤣🤣
Why can’t I type in general anymore
Anyway can someone help me how to add devices to my HomeKit cuz like it says that a tv 8 is found I think that’s my Samsung tv 8 but like where do I find some code
You missed the re-organisation.
Try posting in #1284966582375813201 and make sure to include HomeKit in the title 🙂
any chance someone could help me out with this https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1286404027034370110
Please do not cross post
ah ok
Do not eat raccoon poop

It's not just gross, it's also science
couldn't settle for just rabies could you california?
what's everyones naming schemes for labels and categories? I'm thinking categories - theme and labels - function
I personally have never used them. So in my case..

like the upper or lower value of a binary_sensor
(And a binary sensor doesn't have a upper or a lower value, it's either "on" or "off")

sorry, threshold sensor
how do i post a new topic now

Anybody about that could help?
Just trying to set up ulm_card_navigation path. Is that looking for another yaml file that I’ll have to create?
Huh. Apparently the Docker DNS resolver intermediary doesn't like non-FQDN for local hostnames. That's interesting. Slightly annoying.
Hello everyone! I'm reinstalling Home Assistant and looking to assign a proper name to all my entities and devices. I was trying to name a temperature and humidity sensor (using zigbee2mqtt), but I don't like how it came out. I named the device Closet temperature humidity sensor, but the entities were renamed to Closet temperature humidity sensor Humidity and Closet temperature humidity sensor Temperature. How would you suggest me to rename it? Thanks!
Sleep? What's that?
Lads. Had to reset Homeassistant. Any ideas for 5 ESPs, 3 of them have bluetooth
What does one have to do with the other?
I am starting from scratch
does it need to be zigbee?
It's that your question is random, if there is a question.
What? English is not englishing
I do not have Zigbee Plugs no. But i do have other Smart Plugs
You should make a gate control with one of your ESP's for your garden gate.
Use another one for the door that upen your chicken coop in the morning.
Only if i had a garden
Does anyone know any Channel on youtube that mainly focuses on Esps in Hassio?
Another could monitor your well pump
Use the rest to build multisensors to measure all the environmental things.
That's what I would do with 5esp's
the last one is a good idea. will probably do 🤔
Does anybody faced issues with the last update (core 2024.9.1 --> 2024.9.2) ? All my switches did show strange behavior - the state did toggle for 1 -2 sec then goes back to the old state. The real device did change correctly, only the state in the dashboard was wrong. State changes via the real hardware were not reported in the the GUI . Restoring the 20.24.9.1 backup fixed it. Before reporting an issue I want ask here.
Next I will try to redo the update and see if the behavior is the same.
You will want to post that in either #1284966582375813201 or #1284966540617449515 This is not a support channel.
Thanks for the hint
Please use the channel #1284960456880029707 for that
Sorry
No problem! 👍
Hello everyone, I am not sure is this the right channel.. I need help with installing HomeAssistant instance + Dashboard UI on the same android tablet (Cubot tablet 60 4/128) I consulted with ChatGPT and he told me that easiest method would be using termux.
After making sure I installed all dependencies for HA and running pip install Homeassistant I always run on to a similar error related to cryptography and zlib-ng
Sadly I can't afford to get Pi device or pay for cloud services... Can anyone help me out or redirect me?
All help is appreciated..
#1284966540617449515 is the place to go
does anyone else have the problem that we cant click back out of devices/automations? the back button isnt working?
i have to go settings again and then click automations or devices again. the back button is broke. deleting cache didnt work. or where do i post to discuss this issue?
This has been documented a few times in frontend github issues.
ah great so its not just me. quite frustrating haah
By creating a post in #1284965172053807145
I can't see that in the side bar (but thanks for the link)
Then look at your settings in "Channels & Roles"
okay thanks. Am I missing something, though? there's no mention of this discord change in announcements
and what separates discord from the HA forum now that this change is implemented?
You missed it, indeed. #community-updates

Hello, damn I m not sure how to understand how to ask quick guidance without opening a new channel everytime with the new discord :/
If it is about support, a post in the appropriate channel is the way to go
Yes but my issue is probably a easy one so opening a channel seems odd
Still... The support channels are the place for that.
I guess ^^'
Whats a general support? I am not sure where my problem lies

Has anyone ever been able to get the atom echo working with HA and wakewords? I tried over the past year. Somehow got it going once, but it crashed/hung frequently. After latest esphome update, I have to press the button, as it appears they disabled wakewords. Grayed out in HA.
you guys may wanna recruit some more crows lol
I would switch to a different device, since the esp32 is broken, if I knew what stand-alone alternatives there are
@simple sapphireNot sure if that is an #1284966582375813201 or #1284966617670881350 but one of those is where you should post these questions

They got rid of the voice assistant channel, right?
ah wasn't sure what that was lol
No, the one I posted is active
It says the channel is permanently closed. Is there more than one?
Click on my link
Post is grayed out on that channel
Got it!
i have to say, i'm pretty disappointed by the change in the discord server. i'm sure there are reasons, but i wouldn't know where to look for them in this new discord setup. i see where to go find stuff now, but i feel it is a setback. i loved the open forum of the old channels where we could just share information about the topic. i learned so much by just jumping into the channel of choice and reading what i've missed, or even scrolling back a few days. now it is just posts. as if i'm on a BBS from the early 90's
for instance, i wanted to just go put some random information into the zwave channel about a seemingly popular device (aeotec window/door sensor 7) that i just discovered (the battery information is different between the website support page and the user manual), but i don't think it will be useful to create a post for it. i don't need support. just wanting to share some useful information
I think the aversion to writing a post because 'it's not worth it' or 'it's not useful' is just a mindset that needs to be overcome
eh..
The alternative is a single post that just immediately scrolls off the screen, forgotten
as he said, some scroll back
but... easily searched for and then you can read the context around
That all fits in a post 🤷
for topic-specific channels with moderately low traffic, i did pretty regularly scroll back to read what i'd missed
this server needs both but I agree with actual support being placed into the forum type channels
like, half of what i know about matter and can now support people with came from just reading in the matter channel as conversation happened
asking for assistant in a forum type channel makes 100% sense, but just talking and throwing out random facts or whatever.. that can reside in a normal chat channel
at the same time, i can see how it might be overwhelming for those mods
everyone rolling in and taggin them (like me)
surprised I haven't seen this here https://youtube.com/shorts/fN4fqdqOSy0?si=Jx4LpwDNa-jrHaRb
dang, vertical video makes for tall link previews, that fills my whole screen height :(
lol. a post would have saved you from that 😛
but i would have missed it, as it was something i wouldn't have clicked on to jump into the thread to view. shrugs
anyway. just venting. i suppose i'll get used to it like my jump from IRC. i had better shut up before i see someone say "get off my lawn" like i did the other night
I'm still hoping that at some point we'll get some "on topic" chat channels again, but ... :/
this is all a ploy to drive people away from discord so they can just focus on the forums /s
i think i like the idea @forest edge mnetioned. it would be good to have a support channel and general chat channel for each. HA has some many different topics, though. it might have been better to have both for at least a trial period and direct people to asking for specific support in the forum-like posts rather than just locking the general chats
i'd rather go back to IRC. no /s 😄
waits for the "okay boomer"
Do you see dead people?
i certainly see fewer people, in part because i end up skipping a bunch of forum topics because they don't seem sufficiently interesting to be worth the effort of dealing with the discord forum topic ui - even tho they might be something that i would have read in a chat channel :/
apparently not. not seen atx or netham lol
kinda wish discord would show the end of the chat rather than the start so you could get some idea of the current discussion before opening a forum topic.
there seems to be a lot of overlap between #1284966353798697001 and #1284966617670881350 fwiw; hardware is listed first, so it ends up grabbing some of the topics related to support of e.g. zigbee, zwave, matter devices.
i think that's fair. i didn't even see related-tech until i searched for wtf happened in the zwave channel. if i were to scroll the list and find hardware first, it would jump there. all zwave devices are hardware. shrugs
smooth, though... #announcements message
i say that because i hadn't been in here in a bit. maybe a couple of months. and then smacked with it. shrugs
POD's, TOD's make sure you peeps in the US have those things added to anything of yours of value. shit is such a nightmare to add down the road and in some cases a nightmare to deal with in general
true that. don't want to have to let the courts decide
but yeah, i'm not a fan of using a chat service as a searchable knowledge base in general - that's not what chat is for. And there's better options for forums than locking stuff into a non-web-indexed, no anonymous access, proprietary service like discord. The whole reason i joined the HA discord - a chat service - was to chat with other people who use HA about HA and related technologies :/ Not to talk about random unrelated stuff, and not to act as a support service agent.
you can chat about HA, just not ask for help about HA in these channels lol
most of the "community" channels explicitly say in the description (hmm, not sure what gave me that impression, doesn't seem to actually be the case currently?) that they're off-topic channels, and are used as such (so i have them muted).
they just don't want these channels to be used for any kind of support when it comes to HA
the old OT was the same way
the old support chat channels weren't really meant to be used for general conversation that kept jumping from support to casual chat either
the issue here isn't what they want. it's the discord sucks for what they are trying to achieve
if threads weren't basically useless those would get used more too
i'm honestly ok with getting repeated questions in support chat channels occasionally - they're usually quick to answer, and if they start happening too often it's a good indication of a shortcoming of the software or public support/documentation resources.
also provides a way for people newer to a project to start helping others, by answering questions that they've seen before :)
I agree the other way had it's perks but it did kind of have it's downsides too
can't even suggest an unofficial server because the valuable information in that wouldn't ever be seen by those looking for answers lol
honestly, the old channel layout helped me get interested in matter/thread by seeing the active conversation in those channels. so i picked up some devices, dove deep into learning protocol details while chatting with an integration dev, and eventually helped speed up the resolution of a device firmware issue that was affecting HA users by providing the vendor with reproduction steps using a standalone test tool.
Querying using keywords is an under utilized method to find information. It’s a skill in itself.
I always thought there would be a better way to communicate with nearby vehicles in the future instead of angry drivers flipping the bird — where drivers communicate to nearby drivers using voice to text using a HUD on the windshield or something like this where cars show angry faces. would make driving more interactive.
I may have to stop using the voice assistant. This is absolutely mental. It picks up something that sounds nothing like the wakeword, picks up a random sentence from a video and then decides it's going to perform a seemingly arbitrary list of actions. What is even happening here?
I bought a few of these after they were recommended. They work, but are basically garbage.
The wakeword works, but is VERY picky so maybe it just doesn't like your voice, accent, etc. It worked if I held it up to my mouth most of the time, rarely when anywhere else. The speaker in it is bad enough that it's hard to understand the response a lot of the time.
I've had the best luck with Wyoming and R-Pis but as you can see above, it's... often just crazy.
(conference speakers are much better than the hats you can buy)
Micro wakeup words work to good. Now my echo in the bed room sometimes picks up oke nabu from the study.
TBH, the last thing that anyone would need is vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Too many crazy people in the world (and pervs and etc). It would have to be majorly secured against things like random messages, spam, etc.
i always wish there was a way to talk so you can let people know about thier highbeams and stuff but yea it would not work out in the real world
or that someone's lights are off, or only their parking lights are on
the latter is the most annoying. because they get some headlight light, enough that they often don't notice
Aside from the sarcasm, it would prevent accidents if vehicles were able to communicate asynchronously to each other to indicate issues — such as obstruction on road ahead, accident ahead, blinkers not working, high beams on.
High beams on are the WORST. Especially where I live.
How come?
my car uses it's front facing sensors to detect oncoming traffic and automatically turns them off if on.. not that I use them much anyway.
I think that might actually be a requirement for cars now
what if you have a shitty old truck from 2008
Having a car that does that... shit does it feel like living in the future
yes - when I first notice it happen
I didn't believe it at first and was like how the hell
My favorite feature on new cars is the top-down parking line thingy
Or ILS so there is no low/high beam at all.
The real magic are the "matrix" headlights that just turn off the elements where it detects an oncoming car, dynamically
That's what I have 🙂
just became legal in the US, I think. Way behind Europe
over 40mph, Highs are always on.
Yes, it did earlier this year
Beam dimming for street signs is the coolest
Yes, that's what I've got... and it's so damn cool
I did not spend an extra hour driving after dark just to watch it do the magic... honest
man, i've never wanted a new vehicle until now
Somehow my truck is still worth $10k
The wife was laughing at the joy I got from the lights 😄
I can't drive after dark to enjoy it anyway. BAC too high
afaik BMW and Mercedes researched on that for years and the cars now communicate in some cities with light poles to detect jams
And yes matrix is cool and all but I still don‘t like how it randomly blinds other cars which get detected too late so I only ever use it when neccesary
Southerners and old people + high beams. You get the idea… lol
How does that happen? you mean delay and turning of a single beam aka blackout boxes?
it happens in areas with hills, also on broad highways at least with my audi
Tilt is taken into account in mine.
you can say that but I doubt there's a way to 100% identify a oncoming car. chances are bigger it doesn't
Haven't seen any glitches so far. Depends on the level of ILS implementation. Pretty sure earlier gens had issues but they have come far
Mine is 2023
I don't have an Audi anymore but one I had didn't have vehicle tilt. So don't know much about the latest iteration on Audi.
Also with tilt, its oncoming light in the distance and the sensors on these things can‘t go past ~150m I‘d say. And then its not even sure if this motorcycle is worth to turn off the pixel I feel
I'm probably an asshole driver, but I'd mark those problems as "not my problem"
and still use it
You might be in the majority anyway with this
I mean, I simply forget to turn off my highbeams on a regular basis, I only drive in the dark around 4ish/5ish AM and the roads are empty
I just fear old drivers with this tech at hand, and you both are old. I‘m scared now
how old are you?
I am so old, even re-coded ambient light turn on trigger. Yes we deadly
I'm only 41
I can still see at night
I got super trashed the other night, my wife had to drive home in the dark, she was not happy
normally my job
On the other hand I also know that not everybody is focused while driving, people are not even on the wheel with their hands now so these things are minor
Aren't you supposed to text all the time?
No, youtube
Hah, my codriver has its own console
Tbh i fear every level of automomy except the full autonomy. Old people will get into trouble with one or the other feature
I'm on the fence
I see how my parents drive, and all this stuff really helps them
I don't think I'll ever own this kind of tech because I'm a cheap ass and buy old cars
I don't think I've owned a car newer than -10 years old
I do get fomo
But I'd rather put that 100k into drugs and alcohol home automation
I like how you think I would just add a few for a set of wheels
I think I have maxed out on automation. 😁
i wanted if home assistant's gadgets will be on "Android"...
my car has the whole "auto high beams" Thing(tm) but it's using the front camera to decide, so when I first got it, it thought that road signs it was illuminating were oncomming cars. Lots of false positives, which was pretty funny. Unfortunately they changed it, so if you have the auto system on at all, the car just goes with high beams all the time unless it thinks they should be off. I ended up disabling the whole system and going back to manual
don't call my truck shitty and it's 2004 not 2008
Noice, I have a better truck than someone else
as opposed to a car truck?
There also is a truck truck truck
car tech is getting a little nuts
as they add more buttons on the inside the amount of space under the hood shrinks
Are you talking about auto high beams or multibeam?
auto high beams
Ah. Never used that. Multibeam is what I know.
the seat belt crap the auto off at stop lights crap and the beeping when you get too close to the line
all that can go die in a fire
But you need this. Specially you. https://youtu.be/QLGe6o_6GRI?si=TdOfImN9_DWixNIW

it's a headlight.. not an excuse to charge you thousands to replace it
This is why I buy older Minis without that stuff. My 2024, being electric, doesn’t do any of that stuff either.
You can change anything if you know what your doing. Sealt belt gong is the 1st to go off anyway.
shouldn't have to "hack" to be rid of annoyances lol
In some cars… BMW makes it VERY difficult in most cases
Start stop is EPA/DOT regulated. So you will have to hack it.
Not in a Mini
There’s a toggle switch for it. lol
It used to be like that. Good times
Yeah, they removed it in the 2025 models. Sooooo, older Minis for me forever.
when they first came out with that auto off crap at lights to conserve gas and reduce emissions I thought it was going to be the starter that was going to have to be replaced often throughout the vehicles life.. turns out the first thing to go is the spark plugs.. so with one BS "feature" they fuck people out of two things that force you to have to pay to replace quicker than you ever should
Now now, don't hate on capitalism
yes yes.. shit all over it
Pretty sure you can code yourself out of it.
it's no wonder used cars are such a high commodity now
Not easily. Bimmercode is still trying to figure out ways to even get into the BDC last I heard.
Just a matter of time.
Used to be easy to hook into the OBD-II port and code everything out, but BMW was basically like “nah… screw you guys”
You’d think that, BUT, the 2025 Minis now check and report “unauthorized” code changes.
Yeah, it’s still CANBUS. But the crap they added is simply stupid. The BDC is now a completely protected component.
Oh my
wtf are you trying to hack on the mini? this the seat belt shit?
I think (I’m not sure because I’m simply not interested in the 2025+ models) they also applied that to a few other domains as well.
Everything? I have a stage 2 tune that simply won’t work on new models because you have to physically interrupt the sensors. But, when you do that, it gets reported now.
So I can't quite figure out which channel applies to problems with a ~1y old installation that has stopped responding. It's not installation (or at least I hope it doesn't become that!), but not any of the others either. Any thoughts on where best to ask that sort of question?
It would still be #1284966540617449515
So they report naughty people huh?
just think, all the effort they put into preventing customers from being able to do anything with their own vehicles is pushed on to the price tag of the same customer.
Yup. It’s annoying. And you can’t opt out of Mini/BMW connected either. You don’t have to have an account, but it’s still connected.
just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside
I love the connected part of it. Specially for wife's vehicles. Saves me loads of questions and headaches.
lets see here how many times was the peddle mid way or fully depressed... hmm 1 fully depressed time over the course of 4 hours.. wtf
I don’t mind it per se… but for things like Sonoma is bringing up, ya know…
She will look at the HA notification for low fuel or anything but will ignore the gas gauge in the dash. Lol. Anyways makes my life easier.
wait what.. she looks at the HA app for car details like gas but not the guages directly infront of her in the car?
i say guages.. i meant complex digital screens lol
Will not look at the dash. I am not going try and change it. Lol.
Yep exactly that.
the ford edge wet got stuck with has those digital screens.. the engine temp one is so bad.. like you can see the delay between a sensor saying, it's getting hotter and the little guage moving on the dash
I have no idea about FORD or GM. Never had one and don't plan to.
I like the center screen that replaces the radio for like android auto etc.. but in the dash cluster behind the steering wheel.. no I don't like them there lol
That's why there's a HUD
no. those are dumb too
if I wanted shit projected onto my windshield it better have a porn option
Ahh you are dealing with middle earth frustrations nothing to do with driving. I understand
i think you are confusing distractions with driving
I think you need to build a shed, fire up a 21" monitor, add some beam sensors around it and all set. Use your HUD to drive.
how many times do you have to hit a button on your steering wheel to see your oil pressure?
What's that?
Navigation is all I want to see.
You can get this anytime, by cuddling raccoons. You should try it
your hud displays a map on your windshield?
how the hell do you see anything through it? lol
Not maps. Next turn, side of the street. Maps on there would suck
@static schooner tried that and look where it got them...

If you eat raccoon poo, you deserve to get sick, to be fair
I need to buy some potatoes
I don't see a potato region
Nah. My body is a temple
Potato region is in the Ears, or at least that's what my Mom always said.
Always asked if I was growing potatoes in there
I get so confused. I am uncertain whether WhatAreWeFixing is typing or Today is Typing. Need more vino.
(It's also my website, thats why, with the '.')
One question... To integrate home assistant with chatgpt will I need a plus account on chatgpt?
I use the LLM on my gaming machine, so I personally don't know.
Ollama
Anyone else know?
No idea. But one day when it can go through all the scripts, automations and logbook and suggest how things can do better I will be interested
at that point you won't need it to "suggest" just have it do it on it's own
It's only good now to feed it a fact and have it smart-ass back to you in a tts.
Not interested in interacting in anyway with HA 🤣
Then this is definately the server to be on...
he's here for the potatos
if he can't eat good stuff.. he may as well see others do it
I don't mind. Fine-tune time outs because it can see trigger data etc. Dynamically adjust time to off for any device would interest me. Asking to turn off a light not so much.
isn't there already a way to dynamically adjust durations etc based off enviroment input?
pretty sure I've ran across a few posts about that already
seems you are behind old man
Not that I know of. I have set time outs depending on time of day and occupancy but it's more complicated than that. You will have to take in zones to account and zones per area.
pretty sure the tools are there, you just need to figure out how to use them
but don't fret.. i too look at some of the stuff baffled lol
If you see it again pass the link.
My place is close to humanly perfect as it can get. But I am all ears and eyes.
Isn't there a black mirror episode on this
What I am really looking for: time to off 10 minutes. Analyze last motion off for last 90 days come up with a median +/- adjust time out accordingly.
A template that runs daily and calculates the average for x days..... I feel like what should be possible, though I'd need to do a ton of googling to make it work
I do use statistics sensors for vacuum routines per vacuum. In the sense don't clean areas that were not occupied for x hours. I am referring to AI. If I am plugging in AI, I don't want ro chat with the damn thing but do something productive without me 😁
And primarily to not light everything on fire too while hallucinating something nonsense as ai loves to do
that frigate audio alert works pretty well with fire alarms
Have you tested the meow trigger?
critical for Home Assistant livestreams
no. I thought about it when my mom used to let a neighborhood stray come into her garage through a cat door but I really don't see that one being effective
cats make way too many diffrent noises
and they're usually not that loud
Hmm. That's what she.....
not the channel for your furry fantasies
he knows that we already have one for that...
Well there's water there's a cooler
World of fun when you uber to get a drive through burrito
the Qrevo is seems to be getting closer to being a useful robovac
it's awesome. I just picked up a Qrevo Master and it's great
Absolutely amazing compared to my Roomba i7 that I've had for a few years. Night and day
I saw them playing ping pong
should have bought 2, since the price has gone up by $200
What's the price now?
Roborock is the way to go
cleary. I had no idea how much better it is
I very much enjoy that it doesn't just go around bashing into shit
I retract my last statement. apparently only the slim can fit under furniture and does not have most of the neat things the reg has like being able to lift for carpet rugs
I had roomba ages ago now the entire fleet is roborock. Night and day.
I love that you can watch live from its camera and that it takes pictures of obstructions and obstacles
poop glamour shots prior to being spread all over
It's VacuumTV
finding and avoiding that is part of the Vacuum Wars criteria 🙂
https://vacuumwars.com/
I didn't think I needed a mopping feature with rugs everywhere on my hardwood until I realized how smart it is about using it
My oldest one runs flole, wish everything ran that
do not google flole lol
I hope I don't have to wait for Black Friday to see if there's a better deal on a second one. Amazon doesn't actually stock them - they're sold and ship from Roborock
I’m waiting for the new Narwhal to become available. I have my heart set on that one. https://us.narwal.com/products/narwal-freo-x-ultra-robot-vacuum-mop
there are so many competitors now
I was thinking back to the original Roomba that I got a long time ago that just ping-ponged through the room at warp speed with no intelligence at all 🙂
looks like it has most of the same features as the Roborock for basically the same price
I think it's funny that my cats just do not care about the vacuum at all. They just casually move out of the way if it's heading directly toward them, but they show no fear or concern at all
I watched one go right by my cat yesterday and she didn't move an inch or even pay any attention to it
This is gonna replace my Roborock S5 that’s on it’s last legs after multiple battery replacements and such.
The only bad thing is that it doesn’t have a HA integration, but I can just schedule it and not worry about it at all.
I installed the Roborock integration, but I haven't decided what I want to do with it yet. I've scheduled cleaning, and I guess it would be nice if it alerted me if it gets in trouble, but their app already does that
and there's nothing that HA can do about it
Exactly. I have mine flashed with Valetudo and integrated through MQTT. It’s great and all because I can schedule cleanings when I’m out of the house or in bed… but honestly, I really can’t say that I ever do anything with the vacuum in HA itself. It cleans, returns to it’s dock and then sits there for the rest of the day. lol
it exposes a ton of controls and sensors
looks like a ripoff
Mine doesn’t… well, it does, but the ones I care about (bin full, etc), don’t work on mine as it doesn’t have a sensor for it.
Of what?
of that roborock we were just talking about
it scored #4 on the list: https://vacuumwars.com/best-robot-vacuum-mop-combo/
no review yet, though
narwall dock looks slightly diffrent but jesus the qrevo curv and dock looks just like the narwall thing lol
competition is great
Roomba ruled without meaningful competition for too long and now others have eaten their lunch
may the best robot vacuum win, and I, for one, welcome our new robot vacuum overlords
I can’t tell you how or why, but it’s better. That’s what a YT video said. lol
its that last part that really seals the deal
lol exactly. I can only go by what the sponsored content creators tell me. It’s 2024. That’s the rule.
I fall prey to Big Robot
But, tbh I’m just really liking the AI features that Narwhal has advertised. Plus, the 7 day dust bag thing is pretty cool.
Part of the AI of the RoboRock is identifying obstables (cables, pet toy, lamp, etc.). I don't know how much it matters, but it's cool
I just have a housekeeper come once a week and then bill @tidal bronze
my Roomba i7 would just try to eat all those things
then complain My robot tummy hurts...
Twice or more depending on laundry 😁 but, I like the way you think.

I heard Kansas city, and I need my 8 seconds back
I would hate to see what it would do with a pile of horse crap

Oh damn 4:25PM. Past my nap time.
thought your body was a temple? why it's running out of steam part way through the day?
Missed my 3:30 power nap
eat more potatos, you'll feel better
Can you elaborate on which kind of temple you're referring to?
pretty sure his is more like this. https://www.parkboard.org/ImageRepository/Document?documentID=8680
isn't a potato like one big carb?
lol was just about to go make a post about how my home assistant installation was broken, had screenshots and some logs earlier in the day but hadn't had time to post it all, go to replicate the issue and it works
You clearly made it nervous
it knew i was 5 serious and wasn't about to deal with that
My CA mobile drivers license was finally accepted for Apple Wallet, so I'm in the cool kids club now
I kinda want to use it now, but I haven't had to present my ID to anyone in a long time

prepare to lose all your free time! :D
That won't happen, I guarantee it.
(I don't have free time).
grumbles as a fresh hass install doesnt let firefox restore a backup tar but it works fine from chrome
That sounds like a bug that should be reported if not already there
3639
opened may 14 2022
's how i found out to try chrome lol
Aaah fun
Got a link?
Firefox is known to not play well with HA
Joining dev to fix this one issue lmao
Really? this is like, the first issue i've had to try another browser for
and ive been happily using hass for like, 4 years now
If you search the server history it comes up often
discord's search is hella unreliable, i only use it as a last resort, cuz it oft likes to tell me no results, for even common words like "the"
Short words often trip it up
This seems to be a possible workaround: https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/issues/7258#issuecomment-706571828
That same issue #7258 seems to suggest a possible fix as well, but would be in that frontend.
allow me to rephrase -- Discord's search will oft tell me no results for any word. Long or short. Even searching for my own posts, with the from:@rapid tendon search modifier, will result in nada in servers i'm active in.
this particular issue persists on multiple devices, some using canary, some using stable discord
Discord sure is a website that pretends to be an application on my computer 🙂
Chrome is the new IE6.
Not usually firefox anymore, I mean, Chrome is increasingly the defacto browser you support.
But yeah, iOS only allowing Safari means if you want to support iOS, then that's Safari, indeed.
I think that's mostly fixed now.
I think once I get my HA setup, I'm going to try to integrate all the things.
Especially the temperatures of the fish tank and various statistics on the computers.
(Such as filesystem usage)
(And date of last backup...)
I want to try modding an electric typewriter into a TTY and figure out how to get that talking to hass so i can interact that way. Seems incredibly silly to do 🙂
punch in a command, watch it type out the weather or somethin'
I seem to recall people used to be able to use minicom or something, I can't remember, it was so long ago.
(In order to pretend to be a TTY)
With modems.
hey there, random question... is there a way to disable MFA when i'm "at home" (ip-based")? seems i can only use trusted_networks which removes password requirements
I usually use browser plugins for that (eg, 1password that fills things in automatically)
No
Okay,. so this might not be a HA issue but why is everything so coy about giving debug information that might actually be useful?
I set something up and it errors (returning a 404) but the debug information doesn't even include the URI it requested.. so I have no idea what it didn't find.
What are you even looking at
I think Xyem was just ranting.
The thing that triggered that specific comment was extended_openai_conversation not connecting to my local LLM.
I turned on the debug information and got no more useful information than what the assist responds with in the first place.
While I would expect, at the very least, the URI it is hitting, if not a detailed representation of what was sent.
But yes, just ranting 🙂
Hmm, I was looking at some profiling data in a flame graph. Feels like that could be pretty neat for energy usage. Kinda nest the different sensors logically.
And then get an idea of what certain things uses, what isn't being tracked, etc.
Though personally, I would have just made the main OpenAI one accept endpoint URLs so it could be used with any OpenAI compatible API but.. apparently that's just me 😄
Something like this, day to day, see what's being used where.
Time to see if that already exists.
And if not, how hard it'll be to make. 😅
@candid viper https://github.com/jekalmin/extended_openai_conversation/blob/1b20b56e81e5e5067b72a2ba2c8f51dd0a73eef1/README.md?plain=1#L615
You may also be interested in another graph type I found recently, which I believe is called sankey: https://mermaid.js.org/syntax/sankey.html
Create diagrams and visualizations using text and code.
@candid viper That extension seems to use openai-python, so https://github.com/openai/openai-python shows you how to enable logging if you search for "logging" on that readme.me file.
I use it to document the power connections in my machines, so I know what capacity/connectors are available.
Nice
Quite useful when you do things like trying to fit a 2060 and a 3090 into a 2013 machine 😄
Needed to get a new PSU for that.
Thank you 🙂
Unfortunately, this just makes it dump the payload but not what URI it is sending it to. Might be useful in the future though.
Oddly, it's also only part of the payload it dumps. Though I have read that this might have been abandoned anyway.
That might be because it is passing it off and there is no hook in there for that.
If you can find out which logging namespace it uses within the python ecosystem, you could enable just that one.
Looking at the source code for it.
Python's logging is good and flexible, it just so happens that this is combined with... nonexistant documentation of how individual projects use it. 😦
Hehe.
That reminds me actually.. I need to send in a patch to text-generation-webui because it breaks if its API gets hit while it is completing a streaming request.. pretty sure that isn't intentional.
Hello, im new here could someone help me where i can learn about Home Assistant? I want to get in hand with the software and the matter of Home Assistant
they pretty much all use getLogger(__package__) or getLogger(__name__) so it's pretty easy to guess the namespace
You also have eto guess the library it's using, though, it's usually either the standard python urllib or requests, but sometimes it's... Anything else.
External libs basically.
Maybe that's normal in the libs you're using but all the libs I typically deal with, they don't use other libs
More specifically the custom components that Xyem was ranting about. 🙂
Things tend to be neater in low level stuff.
did the "latest release notes" https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2024/09/04/release-20249/#202493---september-24 used to link directly to the version you were updating to? or did it always jump to the top of the page like this url https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2024/09/04/release-20249/
I don't think I've ever clicked that link
i usually do to see if there's a reason i dont want to yolo (or do)
am i allowed to post a video i made in #1284960456880029707 or is that reserved for "cool thing i made that isnt monetized"? it isnt clear after reading the rules and i dont see a tag for self promotion or similar

it's for whatever you want to promote
I got some debug information out of the backend openai module being used (for the record, by installing something from HACS that allows me to set the environment variable OPENAI_LOG to debug) and the debug information from that.. makes it look like it is not actually using the URI I set, as the port is missing.
Which would explain why it is getting a 404 🙂
@candid viper What you can also do, is run a reverse proxy (ie, put the local openai stuff behind something like nginx), log it... And then tell your HA to hit it.
"content" tag then?
I can see in the documentation for that module of examples with other ports being used, so I have a feeling this debug output isn't being fully honest about what it is doing.
I haven't really been on this discord server for a bit, but I'm finding it difficult to get some help with Frigate. Previously, I would head over to the #cameras-archived channel and it was great and super-helpful. I've posted in the #1284966617670881350 channel yesterday and no responses at all.
Is it just less active now, or am I posting in the wrong place / incorrectly?
Indeed.
#1284966353798697001 and cameras as the tag
Does someone have a guide/link they know of that talks about how to get custom cards into lovelace UI when the instructions are for the non-UI version? Struggling to get something in, and yes, I've already posted
That's not really your question
Your question is about custom button card templates
and how to use them in the UI
Please also don't crosspost
<@&330946878646517761> #the-water-cooler message

jk, took care of it
Damn. I forgot to ask him HOW. Ugh. lol
Hi water cooler friends
Welcome, welcome!
I like the new stacking features
What happened to Scruffy?
Scruffy the Janitor is not plugged into his vacuum base lol, I was cleaning it the other day
I don’t really like the new forums. I enjoyed scrolling the conversations, and it’s a bad experience now.
That's unfortunate. Some people looking for help have been appreciating it, as their questions don't get lost so easily as before in the chat.
That change happened before I came. But the forums in the discord work well - very different vibe to the open chat though.
Not sure what your interest level is in this (if it is none, do let me know!) but it not working seems to be a DNS error, of all things.
Haha. More specifically, it seems to be ipv6 related. I installed the Terminal add-on and it can't resolve the hostname, unless I force ipv4.
Can’t sleep though
Oh, sorry to hear that.
Is it DNS?
Yes.
I feel you
So I dropped an implemention I've coded for another software stack in and it worked fine, which clued me into a problem and researching on that led me to another extension (Home LLM) which is working well. 👍
This Dutch utility is promoting a Home Energy Measurement System that is looking veeeeerrry familiar. Quite shameless if you ask me
Wouldn't be the first copy
Can someone direct me pls? I have an idea for an app I want to build on top of home assistant, but I'm not sure what the right way to "package" this would be (add-on, integration, completely separate)
I want to build a score keeping app for ping pong where users can press a zigbee button on each side of the table to regsiter a point, then have a wall-mounted display that shows the score and some other information like who's turn it is
I think I can just build this as a completely separate nodejs app that webhooks into HA to get button press state, but it would be cool if I could do this in a such a way that the data is stored somewhere in HA
Cool, I can develop my own integration that has a way of storing data, doing calculations , and outputitng it? Also, are they all made with Python only?
reposted to #developers idk if that's a better place 🙏
You wouldn't need to output it
it would just be an entity
make a entity that resets the score (button). Make an entity (button) that increments team a, one for team b. Then you just display those on a dashboard.
paring it with any switch would just be an automation
I'm sure someone has already done this TBH
Well, I have ambitions of making it a litlte more featureful, I want it to be able to start and stop games that have specific configurations (IE how many points to play to), keep track of whose serve it is, etc. so I do need some custom code
well it doesn't look like anyone has this
i will build it and publish it :D
this channel seems to lost some of its sass
The sass isn't gone, it's just in other channels. Shitposting still is at a maximum
apparently no one wants to shitpost here anymore
I'm gonna roll my eyes preemptively
Try hardware. I think it is less active because the new structure is less natural to use. But I'm not complaining the overlords don't like it. Be nice if frigate started their own discord
See, I knew I had to roll my eyes
YOU'VE GOT THE GIFT
Based on the odor... the crapper is full
Did the meme channel get merged in here?
Sir, those are gifs
Ahh. So if it's moving it's a gif. Got it.
We don't post gifs here, it's gifs
Now that makes better sense
Sorry, guess we went too overboard on the shitposting.
If you don't go overboard, is it really shitposting?
That guy needs a courtesy flush for sure.
a sea of yellow and a few turquoise do not make up for the lack of sass..
replacing the DFI sensor on my LR3 for the very last time
love how it took them 3 iterations of that sensor before they thought it was a good idea to seal the ir lights in clear plastic
Customer service AI bots should be banned. What a waste of key strokes.
Heh, you too? I've had to replace it once, but the local distributor only had the same damn version of the sensor to send me (ain't that some bullshit) so I expect I'll be there again soon enough
The WiFi board on mine also decided to up and die (not that I really care), everything else still works but the ESP that runs it is apparently dead
At least by the time it fails again they might have finally worked out all the bugs with the LR4 and I can just upgrade to one of those
my second DFI change so actually I got to see all 3 iterations in person since the machine came with the original and swapped it for the second varaition and now to the third. Also had to swap the control board but only cause wifi stopped working but everything else with the board worked fine. The control board I had had the wifi esp as a seperate stand alone module, the control board I got now has everything on the same pcb
I will say - given how many of the damn things you have to remove, especially for the DFI board - it is nice that they only use a single size of screw for the entire device
all in all I really got no complaints. the machine is a beast and aside from the $80 control board which was just a preference to me for wanting wifi back, all the other parts I had swapped on it was rather cheap in terms of keeping the same unit going vs buying a new one etc
That was my thought too. Aside from consumables, have spent about 15% of the purchase price in parts over 4 years. Can't complain at all.
Certainly compared to scooping cat shit
yea.. scooping is for the birds
Customer service for australia post is only by AI, which is worse. 😦
As a result, I had a parcel shipped across the entire country twice, before they lost it.
@tidal bronzeshould have came to visit with your car. we just had marble size hail come through
can I ask if iOS companion notifications are still absolutely momentary or do I have to make a thread for that? (I promoise I'm not trolling)...
There's nothing productive AI can offer in CS. Who would want to ask about an order status from AI. Only reason to chat with CS is for a edge case. AI got no jack about edge cases. Such a lost cause.
Nopes, we don't play with that stuff. 😆
So many of these now 😦
And why do we have so many people here with “admin” as their discord username!?
Ok, so I cannot jump into the "cameras" channel and chat with the people and developers there anow?
you can jump in #the-workshop and kind of do the same
Moved my Hue lights to my zigbee controller to get a stronger network but really missing the ability to have it respond to music like the hue sync app can do. Is there any way to achieve this with Home Assistant currently?
#1284966617670881350 with the Zigbee tag can answer that
Annoyed that my garage door looks to be too frustrating to consider integrating. 😦
That’s all garage doors, not just yours
Chamberlain has a grip on the industry
I've the B&D SD0-6, no idea if that's chamberlain.
🤷♂️
Apparently there's a generic integration I can use that works with "almost all of them", but I've no idea how that would work.
And since it's a rental, I'm not keen on modifying it.
You won’t be able to automate your door without modifying it
Because chamberlain owns myq and it’s locked behind their api
Radtgo or some such
I did consider that actually, I could put a switchbot on the remote control.
ratgdo
Ratgdo requires rewiring
Rage against the garage door opener
Oooh that’s a good name
but I think it requires extensive testing
as in
I never used one of them, but I can imagine a few points of failures when using one of them
Well, I could put it inside a mechanical vice, however, I notice a lot of switchbots seem to prefer a lever-based arm for some reason.
Rather than screw in/out.
Which means there might be a fiar bit of torque required for that arm.
And... Annoyingly...
It's the same button for both close and open. 😦
All I know is that it uses 50Hz.
I have ventilation at home controlled by 443Mhz and that's reverse engineerd and now I use that with an ESPHome device
I would say that #1284966353798697001 is a better place for this 😛
Possibly, but I'm not expecting a productive outcome. So really I'm just expressing irritation of ... gestures randomly towards garage doors
Please take that off, I have a right to privacy here, and that's my garage! 😭 🤪
🤣
You could buy a second garage door opener, wire up a ratgdo or something similar to it, and rest it on top of the opener. You'll get what you want and it can be removed in seconds.
Would probably cost $80 total
$40 for the opener, $40 for ratgdo, and it wouldn't impact the current install
B&D sells remotes for about $500
not wireless
And i would have to pair it
These openers are remotes
Looking online, this is a chaimberlain product
the remotes are $25
so, you can do exactly as I said for $80
Ah i see.
So i could hack it indeed, and pair the new remote to the system.
yes, but it will auto pair typically
I'm talking wired remote
like what you have when you exit your garage
Yeah it seems fairly simple to pair new remotes in.
I don’t know what the wired remotes are, i don’t see where they would get plugged into.
the back of the garage door opener
The thing that actually moves your garage door
Oh i see, i’ll have to take another look in the daylight but feeling i don’t want to invest too much in modifying it anyway - particularly if i don’t know if I’ll still be in this house next year
Those are all buttons though? I didn’t think they had an I/O panel there?
it will be above those
oh, sorry, behind the snap away panel
Pull off that panel and look, I can't find pics of what's behind that online, so I could be wrong
Yeah i think i’ll leave it. Don’t want to touch it really
How bad of an idea would you say is it to Magnet mount an access point
magnet mount it closed?
as long as it has the ability to disengage automatically like the real magnet mount systems, then it's fine
the magnets don't work when the power goes out, so you can leave. They are connected to a fire system, so you can leave
if it doesn't have those capabilities, I think it's a bad idea
do I need to check with local authorities if I can have a pipeline installed for the fire system
Or would this be an out of sight they won't need to care kinda installation
🤷♂️ I only know USA laws
last 2 companies I worked at use zwave devices and have door lock systems like this.
they all had multiple ways the door would disengage the magnet
I'm relatively new to HA, I've got it all active in my home (running in a VM on a QNap), but the light switches I bought are Zemismart ones, and they can't be controlled individually. The 3 gang ones all switch at once if I try to toggle one output.
How do I go about debugging this and working out how to create a custom handler? I can't find anything about this online...
what do you mean custom handler?
You want to integrate this into HA?
if yes, you need to reverse engineer the API if someone hasn't done that already. And chances are, it may not be possible
Yes, I'd like it to work the same as any other supported switch 🙂
It's recognised as a TS0013, but obviously has something different
This is a TUYA product?
It sends all the correct events to HA, and it's just the activation codes from HA to the switch that are somehow wrong
No, it's from Zemismart ( https://www.zemismart.com/products/tb21-zb-1)
I'm not sure how or why it's seen as a TS0013
my guy...
If that doesn't work properly with the ZHA integration, you can attempt to create a quirk. I've never done that but you should create a topic in #1284966617670881350 and tag it zigbee
otherwise you can switch to Z2M and see if it works by looking in their device catalog
I've never used Z2M, although I did install it
Help with that would be a topic for #1284966617670881350
OK, thanks! I'll give a ping in there and see how I go!
Bears sure seem to be getting a whole lot more reckless these days. In a Los Angeles suburb, bears were wandering down the sidewalks and making themselves at home. One clever bear stood on his hind legs and tried to open a car door. Some are comparing it to "Jurassic Park," where the dinosaurs learn how to open doors. Wildlife biologist Forest G...
who doesn't love sugar
@tidal bronze that's who
booze has sugar in it
yea see.. his body is a porta potty, er i mean temple
Oh wow.
I saw that @red trout , your secret is not safe
I use Zooz ZEN17 wired in parallel to garage door push button connections ... works fine.
That only works if your garage door supports it
you can do that with chaimberlain group garage door openers only if you solder to the leads of the button
good way to short out your garage door opener if not 🙂
chaimberland group owns
Chamberlain — the company's do-it-yourself line of garage door openers. LiftMaster — the company's line of garage door openers for professional installers. Raynor — the company's line of garage door openers for professional installers. This line of professional installers is slightly less common than LiftMaster. Craftsman — re-branded Chamberlain models sold at Sears. Those products have a "139" model prefix to denote that the Chamberlain Group made them for Sears. Clicker — a line of universal garage door remotes.
I'm ignorant 'splain it . Every garage door I've ever had used screw terminals to connect a dry switch on the motor unit
Garage door openers now, you cannot use the leads because anyone can splice the line and touch the wires, oepening your garage door
so all 'signals' over the line are encrypted with a code sent from the opener to the button and vice versa
i.e. you can't just plug in a relay
Yep
and chaimberland group has a strangle hold on the industry by owning most of the companies that produce them, so they force you to use a cloud based app called myQ that does not play nice with 3rd parties
and it's limited in functionality
You can always solder direct to PCB Momentary Tactile Push Button legs.
They'd have to already be in my garage to do that. I don't even use the remotes that came with the opener
Yep, that's what I did in the past, now I just use ratgdo because it offers open/close states instead of using a separate tilt sensor
Right, but they made this so that all openers work this way with garage door openers
keypads, push buttons, everything now is an encrypted signal, so no matter where you put it, it can't open your garage if you splice the wires
As long as you go direct to button you are good.
which you can't do on the keypads outside your garage
so, it's all keypads fault
if you have an old garage door, ~15+ years old, you'll probably be fine
Got rid of keypads sometime ago. Ugly
Don't have any key pads. Just hard-wired switch near the door from house to the garage . Our phones are the keypad. Opener is 5 years old . Some kind of Linear.
I was thinking of adding one, I left my house this summer, accidentally locked the door and didn't have my phone on me
there's 1 or 2 small competing brands to chaimberland group
aladin?
Aladdin Genie series
Linear is the brand don't know the model
So reading between thew lines are you saying that those openers that you referenced only have RF based control. No hard wired buttons?
No, they have hardwired buttons
but the communication over the hard wire is encrypted
The lift master 2 conductor now carries, temp, motion sensor and button trigger.
ahhh not just a dry contact but some kind of over the wire protocol
Yep. So you can't use the wire as a NO contact
that sucks but I see why if people had outdoor keypads
Battery powered keypads are RF bound.
Sucks, no. Just solder direct to inside button and good to go. No matter what comms they use you interact with a mechanical switch.
Then hook up a Z-Wave or Zigbee remote dry contact switch to the switch button contacts ... not difficult.
Yah, I soldered to one of the RF remotes, I soldered to the hardwire one at one point. But the ratgdo has been the best bang for the buck so far. Don't even need an extra button/remote
The benefit to the ratgdo, is that it costs the same as a zwave or zigbee remote, but it also talks to the garage door opener
so it provides open/close info, light info, sensor interruption info, and lets you open, close, and stop the garage door
and the wiring is almost the same as a relay
Looks like the ratgdo revere engineered the protocol
Yep
it's a dude out of upstate NY that reverse engineered it and put it on an ESP32
ratgdo looks nice.
now he sells it for $30
good deal
Thought about beam sensors as well.
ratgdo looks like a nice device . I might have used it if I had known it existed . I love ESP32's . Chamberlain must have used pretty lame encryption if the guy hacked it
I'm not sure that guy hacked it himself
they've used the same signal encryption for the last 15ish years
ahhhh insider help perhaps
I think someone else came up with the software
he just made the hardware, turned it into a project, etc
Nice project
@lone dagger you did a really nice job on Discord, I've not really been back here since you finished the threading and just the whole system is far more organized and automated - having been a Discord admin for a very long time I appreciate the work you, and presumably others, put into making it this way!

I didn't even realize you were over on this side of the social platforms!
But thank you.
LOL, I've been here a while, it was just too chaotic for me to participate much
It looks like the RF devices use the Si4010-C2 chip that has onboard 128 bit AES encryption so hacking that while possible would be hard
Sometimes this channel gets slightly chaotic. The community takes its shitposting seriously now. But it's easier to quiet down when you want to step away.
That's the nature of discord, it's the support channels that were impossible to track over long periods. I threaded everything I answered but that's because I'm a Discord guy and it is more efficient 🙂
Hi! You lost? (Also Sir GoodEnough...)
"A black ******* is parked in a driveway. The license plate reads "******".
A golden retriever walks around patio furniture"
How did I miss frigate to Google Generative AI.
ALPR and type of dog, more triggers 🙂
Alert based on level of floofiness
And so begins your journey of putting silly things in AI to get silly messages back. Also, ask me how I know lol
Oh my gods yes, and please document the reactions.
Would be interesting to see if it can identify ups/amazon/fedex
Let's see
Oh boy I am finally going to have fun with the doorbell TTS speaker.
Damnit. QUIT GIVING ME BAD IDEAS!!!
I already mess with them, this will one up.
Lol, I think mine would be "A kid ran by" non stop
Lmao.
my 2 neighbors have kids that are best friends
You can filter that in the prompt
“Ignore the small humans running around”. Something like that? lol
what if I want to trip them
I mean… why wouldn’t you want to trip them? I’m failing to see why that’s even a question. 🤣
Little wowed how it recognizes the make and model of the car from the front only.
Ugh. Great. Now I’m going to have to go home and feed my cameras to Gemini. Damnit @tidal bronze . I blame you for giving me horrible ideas.
You're welcome 😆
Although… I just freed up one of my servers last night. Could work for an ollama install if I throw a GPU into it.
Will be a good test how they compare.
Yup. Plus, I’ve been wanting to get Gemini out of my HA for a while now as well.
For me this will be great to make sure what vehicles are in the driveway. If it misses ALPR then by model and make. Need to gather more data points.
Brief description of the image. No stationary objects. License plate. Make and model of the vehicle
That works for you in a state that has front plates... My state... not so much
Make and model then
I love how it's surprising that I'm here, I'm pretty sure I was here before I was on the forums and I've been serving and administering Discord servers since Discord first released, lol. I chose not to actively participate here because I find support systems on Discord tend to be chaotic and messy until threading came along. Obviously it has changed so I'm kicking the tires.
Well there are users that hate it. Welcome to discord.
No matter what you do you always piss off someone, there's no avoiding it. A lot of people hate change.
I bet there's an entire swath of people that are upset that Padwan and Jedi went away. I have no idea what drove the new rank of "Crow" but whatever it was, someone is mad lol
That wasn't the case, tbh.
More the transition of the support channels from a chat to a forum-like experience.
That's a total transformation of Discord in a very major way, so it's very understandable that it would upset folks
I'm loving it now, honestly, where I was neutral to "could care less" before
We got some feedback, that the new structure led to fewer questions being left unanswered. They get more attention than a short mention in a stream of chat messages.
And that's exactly why this is far better. It's also why I mentioned that Discord was never good for support, especially when you have as large of a user base as this, and that's the main reason: questions get lost in the stack
Chat is Discord's DNA, I don't think they figured it would become such a globally used platform when it was first written to replace Vent as a way to talk to friends while gaming or co-opping on something
A murder of support crows
Right - that "chat" vs "support" thing is where people like me are annoyed with the new layout - it's better for support, sure, but in exchange we've lost some spaces that had grown a bit of a chat community around particular aspects of HA or related technologies.
i'm here to hang out with folks using ha, talk about some of the tech stuff, and sometimes help people out; not to go through support tickets :)
Fortunately you still have a handful of chat channels to use, best of both worlds
like, right now, i have no idea where a "hey, look, nanoleaf has some new matter firmware on the testnet dcl" sort of message would be appropriate.
(which previously would be the sort of thing discussed over in #matter-archived )
Let @lone dagger know, this is a total re-do and might need some refinements, I noticed the same type of deficiency here myself
#the-workshop is for that.
There you go 🙂
ah, i thought that was supposed to be the diy channel? looking at the topic now its focus seems to have expanded a bit
It's very likely you weren't around when I got it up and running.
But I also took a weekend before I updated the description, lmao.
@real frigate Wowza! A FedEx delivery person is delivering a large package. The person is wearing a purple shirt and black shorts. They are placing a large, brown box on a doormat. The box appears to be about 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide.
... and I let a bunch of people in China know... 😛
Oh that's wonderful. More the merrier.
I think TTS can surely make some fashion statements about the "shorts"
Remind me to share some of my more “colorful” TTS notifications. You’ll enjoy them. lol
Would love to get some ideas. Although no Goog love for Amazon. A delivery person wearing a blue shirt with a blue and white logo is placing two packages on a doormat. The logo is not recognizable enough to determine which company. The person is wearing a wide-brimmed hat, black shorts, and a black belt. They are wearing a watch on their left wrist. They are facing the camera with their right hand raised.
It’s funny how Gemini interprets “be as sarcastic as you want”. lol
Going to run about 20 to 30 snapshots per delivery company and see where this goes.
nice addon QF-KELP, you train me to same with doubletake and gemini
whats all this ai talk in here
Sounds cool
I need cameras though before I can start with frigate
typically yes.
Trying to give some fashion advise for delivery people.
Isn't all they wear out your way is speedos?
That's a must. I am more worried about the sombrero diameter
Perfect
looks like one of those social-distancing sombreros
Me want
needs some fringe
Nice can do the trash can count Friday mornings.
Pretty excited to write new automations, completely pointless but fun. 🤣
It’s a really fun form of organization and it pleases my brain. I totally get you.
Read Missy's Bio on the Forums. Plus there more story behind that.
Google doesn't recognize the Phallic logo of Amazon? Sounds like my partner. I tell her it looks like s dick and she doesn't see it...
Should a shelly dinner switch just show up in discovered or do i need to install the shelley app in my phone too?
Doesn't seem like an involved enough question for a full post in the support channels, apologies if I should be doing that
it should show up in discovery once you have it on your local network
aka you'll have to add it to your network either via the app or it's internal webserver
Thanks. Is my first one and I'm very much experimenting here
I noticed it was buzzing while dimmed with a dumb lutron switch, so I was experimenting to see if the shelley dimmer would get rid of the buzz. Sadly, i don't think it's in the cards
the bulb or switch buzzing?
Either the light or the controller in the detached box of the light. Can't listen at the moment because I told it to connect to my wifi and now it's failing to connect or install in HA. Not sure how to get back into it
You can factory reset most Shelly devices by turning off the circuit breaker, turning it back on, then toggling the attached switch off and on 5 times
not all "dimmable" bulbs are worth a shit and they will buzz when they are either shit or starting to fail
Sometimes switching the dimmer from trailing edge to leading edge (or vice versa) can change whether they buzz or not
Dimming LEDs is a wildly unpredictable science
what aqara cube should I get? The WiFi one or the zigbee T1 pro? I know I've seen before some people talking about them here and that one or the other has some issues, but can't find the conversation
Wild, I found that setting in the shelly app. Still buzzing. I'm unsure if I'll be able to hear it when the housing is up in the attic, but perhaps it's better to just return this one. Is there a way to uncover all these setting in HA? Seems like the shelly app is going to be crucial for updating the firmware on initial boot of devices at least (that's why it would configure in HA earlier)
if you already have a zigbee network established then that would be a no brainer since zigbee battery life would last longer and not eat into your local network bandwith
you can update them inside HA
I was more wondering about the missing features, would want to have one with everyhting working vs the one with half the things missing
I do have a zigbee network already but wifi is fine too as long as it works
I can of course handle finding all I need to get it working in both zigbee and wifi, was just wondering if someone knows which one had issues or maybe if there's still any issues with missing features or I might just be thinking of the before-fore times
don't have one so wouldn't know but having a hard time believing you would be missing features from one to the other in fact if anything in terms of HA you'd probably get more information to play with
makes sense, not even sure if the wifi one is local
I might have this wired wrong. The dumb dimmer switch has no effect on the light coming on or off
would also explain the buzzing if you really have it wired wrong
If you're in Europe you can have some of mine (Zigbee). Never using them.
I am in Europe, how much do you want for them? Will need to see if with shipping they're more expensive than new. Might be a better idea to discuss this in a DM though
I haven't really shipped stuff in the EU so I don't know what that entails
Sent you a message.
I appreciate the help. Gotta go to sleep and mess with this another night
I'm up to help too with wiring, you can tag me if I'm on! Have a great night!
How did discord make a worse Tapatalk
WHAT VEGETABLE ARE YOU??? https://sophie006liu.github.io/vegetal/
Enjoy the ride my dudes. 🤣
@forest edge and @civic rivet i figured out the issue. (And clearly did not go to sleep) Using a dumb dimmer with a slider isn't supported with the shelly dimmer 2. You need a "3 position retractive" to toggle the light and hold for dimming. Interestingly wiriing the dumb dimmer to sw1 and N (instead of sw1/L) will make it so the toggle works but alas, the dimming slider does nothing
I'm still trying to figure out the stipulation about minimum voltage draw in non-neutral installs.
This light only draws 5w, so even hooked up to a pair of them i guess i would need some bypass device?
