One cool thing I thought of, is anyone at home assistant planning on creating a "Hub" style device (think nest hub/hub max) that includes effectively the hardware of a home assistant green, combined with a smart screen and voice assistant?

Then it would be a single device that you drop into your house, and set it up with the home assistant app or on the screen directly. It could have the matter, zigbee, z-wave, wi-fi, and Bluetooth all built in.

Then, you don't have to get the home assistant green AND whatever home assistant voice device just to set it up, It would do both all in one device. I think would be a lot more consumer friendly.

The other advantage, is you could integrate whatever Jetson platform into it, and it could do all the voice processing for itself and your other devices all in one package.

There are always a way... And as a company, would you impact everybody for a few? This choice is up to the company. Phone verification costs a lot, like email. ID verification is impossible for that kind of service and would add a trust issue.

Much of them are. They usually work well enough for a long time in my experience.

I use light bulbs, window/door sensor and switches/dimmers.

There is one or two other sensors (I live in Germany). I believe the other two sensors are for water leak detection and movement detection.

Yes. Previous means it will return to the previous state (on or off) after losing power.

Sometimes I forget how good we have it with home assistant, I just had Mitsubishi air conditioning installed, figured I'd try and use the built in cloud stuff until I sort the esphome board for it.

1. Pulled up instructions and it wants to do WPS, my setup doesn't support WPS
2. Figured out how to do it without WPS, it wants you to go to 192.168.11.1/network, I misread it and thought it was 1.1 and spent a while figuring that out
3. Got it to connect, went into the app, it asks you to scan the QR code. It says that it can't connect to the unit.
4. I go to my router, confirm the unit is connected, it responds to ping
5. Wait a couple hours, try again, still not working
6. Go to Google to try and find if anyone else is having any problems, turns out the cloud servers are down and have been since last Wednesday
7. Today, finally app is up. It wants me to go outside in the cold and find the serial numbers 😦
8. Get it all set up, finally, response time to a turn on request: 39 seconds

Total setup time: 6 days, but cloud is easier apparently

I can get 10Gb symmetric for $160/mo now but I can't justify an upgrade I'll not use in the foreseeable future use for $60/mo.

oh, i found my newest right to repair rage inducer. i have a bosch induction cooktop. it got smashed on delivery and they sent a new one, but i kept the old one. i figured maybe it can go in my shed so i looked up new glass. they damaged my cable and they said dep[ending on the break they would have to replace it all the way back to the pole. luckily the break was toward the end of the cable and there was enough slack to cut it and put a new end on

so i think for the telecoms, its is more expensive when it breaks, and it seems* to be more susceptible to breaking

The wire from the utility to my house is all underground, it pops up to a conduit box on the front, then it's a fiber wire literally just sat on the ground and tucked under the edge of my house to the ONT in my garage.

General home improvement question:
Does it sound safe to put a 40lb/18kg dehumidifier on top of this fridge? It would have to be on the front half due to that cabinet.

I won't need the water bucket there, since it can drain to my sink with just gravity.

it probably depends on what would you call safe

the weight most likely wont be an issue for the fridge to handle if its distributed over a larger area. you may however want to make sure that it wont move around or possible fall down while you do interact with stuff

id put a larger sheet of plywood or mdf under it, so its not making a sharp load on the steel or foam.

(thats all a fridge is, foam and sheet metal)
