Obviously you can manually switch an output to any input with the snapcast interface but my family doesn't even know that exists haha

fading ice
#

So I first tried out Mopidy (which would be what's playing the music in this case) with snapcast clients on several devices. I would then play something on Mopidy and 'tune' the clients to Mopidy to play the music. But let's say I had a 'main floor' and 'outside' zone, I could have the zones independently play their own songs.

gleaming crater
#

Yeah that's fine

#

With my setup I have multiple LMS outputs to choose in the web ui

fading ice
#

vs LMS where it is a proper server where each squeezelite client and request / play its own song.

gleaming crater
#

I just embed the LMS page in a dashboard for people

#

They just pick the device and play and don't have to know how the sausage arrives lol

#

And you could spawn as many players/zones as you want

fading ice
#

I think I'm still a bit confused on LMS, snapcast server, and squeezelite and how it's coordinated. And how the snapcast server is spawning the players.

gleaming crater
#

That config snippet I posted earlier was straight out of snapserver.conf

#

squeezelite is installed on the snapcast server machine

#

Snapcast server itself starts up a squeezelite output binary to stream audio from as a source

fading ice
#

Ok I think this is making sense. Your destination devices are running snapcast client, your snapcast server reads from a single squeezelite instance, and it's creating X number of snapcast sources based on how many squeezelite sources you specify

gleaming crater
#

Mostly correct, snapcast reads from 5 squeezelite instances in my case, all talking to a single LMS server

#

And yeah they're configured as snapcast 'sources'

fading ice
#

But one of the reasons I think you said you did this was because LMS starts to struggle with many endpoints due to its single threaded perl nature. Isn't that the same case here, where you're stilling 'streaming' to X number of squeezelite instances?

gleaming crater
#

LMS falls down when it tries to keep muliple clients in sync

#

In my setup having one or more LMS zones going isn't 'in sync'

fading ice
#

Ah, so it doesn't matter how many music streams it's providing, it's the 'sync' that's the issue

gleaming crater
#

When it plays to 'all speaker group' it sees it as one output from LMS, but then all my snap clients tune into that source

#

Yeah LMS is just too ancient to keep >4 speakers in sync very well

fading ice
#

Ah, ok this is making sense now. I was trying to figure out how a 'single' squeezelite instance was solving the issue, but it's not. It's just multi-zone is tuning to a single squeezelite instance, but you can still play different sources in all zones using multiple squeezelite instances (technically) but no performance issue because it doesn't have to worry about keeping them in sync.

gleaming crater
#

Yeah, snapcast is a much better delivery system when you want them all perfectly in sync

#

But yeah I wasn't that happy with mopidy/MPD

#

LMS has been under development for eons and can happily queue up music from a zillion sources

#

And the material UI makes it not look ancient lol

fading ice
#

Yeah, I'm very happy with LMS and how it works, but saw your post on it struggling with lots of destination zones.

#

Thanks for walking me through your setup, I'll prob. test out the same

gleaming crater
#

Yeah basically if you have all high-power LMS nodes and hard wired internet you MIGHT be able to keep it perfectly in sync

#

I'm able to keep my house going with 10 zones that never skip on snap

fading ice
# gleaming crater

So another question: if they're using LMS to select the 'speaker' and play music, what UI or method are you using for the changing of the source at the snapcast client?

gleaming crater
#

I posted the automation I use to auto-switch

#

If someone plays a specific zone it'll switch that area to the source

fading ice
#

Ah, ok. So that's all handled through HA automation in the background

#

Very slick

gleaming crater
#

Or if someone plays 'all' it'll switch the zones not already playing

#

(mostly lol, some are a hard override)

fading ice
#

Have you done anything with this and Alexa / Google voice assistant via homeassistant?

gleaming crater
#

Naw I booted all those devil boxes outta my house haha

#

The extent I talk to my house is using the assist shortcut on iOS to send a command straight to HA

dire spear
#

todays entertainment. i was looking at smart water/shower valves. anyone know of a low-ish cost version that home assistant could control? the moen one is $1200 with their little panel.

tidal bronze
#

Unless you want to do a DIY solution with digital valves and thermostatic valves.

#

Shower should be piece of mind place, DIY is the last thing you wanna do.

forest edge
#

what is the point of piping that into HA really? I could maybe see gal used if it gave that but not temp used

prisma briar
#

Different presets per person, turn the water on before you get in to warm up if you don't want to get a recirculator, smart valves in general would allow digital controls instead of 'turn it til it feels good'

tidal bronze
forest edge
#

lol turn till it feels good

#

not sure who sings that one

tidal bronze
#

Makes even better sense if the daily schedules are set in stone. Unfortunately, doesn't apply in my place. Still worth it.

forest edge
#

the idea of some electric valve sticking open don't sit well with me

#

do those things take batteries?

tidal bronze
#

It really does. My main shutoff valve is zwave lol

#

Depend my life on that

tidal bronze
prisma briar
#

I'm going to be ripping a bathroom down to studs and rebuilding it soon, I was considering a smart valve but I think a recirculator would do what I want better.

forest edge
tidal bronze
#

Nopes, leak detectors can shut off house water or sprinkler thresholds can shut off irrigation

forest edge
#

it's a manafold??

#

nm I think i get what you meant

#

tidal bronze
#

I check gpm per zone and if above threshold shutoff irrigation breakout valve

forest edge
#

so you got multiple

tidal bronze
#

Better then notification/tts mumbo jumbo

forest edge
#

i hope they have a manual means lol

tidal bronze
#

Yes they do.

prisma briar
#

Doubt you could even do only electric valves per code

forest edge
#

thats the crap where you set it up, make sure it's working and then at some point forget all about it and it stops working and you don't know it then when it comes time for it to get it's use.. it don't work lol

tidal bronze
#

Always a backup quater turn

tidal bronze
prisma briar
#

Heh, I had to replace the main valve when I moved into my house. Had a screw valve that was totally seized, replaced it with a 1/4" turn ball valve.

tidal bronze
#

Love the tiny turn valves

forest edge
#

ball valves aren't immune to seizing either. never use a pvc ball valve lol

prisma briar
#

Nah, I used brass

forest edge
#

those things sieze then the handle snaps off lol

tidal bronze
#

Garden hose quick connects, quater turn valves, shrink hoses ♥️

prisma briar
#

That reminds me, I need to figure out how to get my shower to quit dripping. Replacing the valves annoyingly didn't fix it 100%.

tidal bronze
#

Rain head?

#

They are notorious for ghost drippings

prisma briar
#

Nah, when water shuts off the bath/shower diverter goes back to bath and It slowly drips out of the bath tap

#

Fills a 5 gallon bucket in about a day

tidal bronze
#

No slow leak detection?

forest edge
prisma briar
#

I know it's there

tidal bronze
#

Oh not a phantom leak. Lmao

#

I hear you

prisma briar
#

The valves for the knobs in the shower were shot when I moved in, they were flaking bits of rubber seal off and clogging shower heads, as well as leaking at a steady rate. I replaced the valves and it slowed the leak to a slow drip but didn't totally remove it.

#

By 'leak' I mean the shower just never fully turns off

tidal bronze
forest edge
#

in a few hours we might be adopting this cute little thing

#

her name is coco

#

and holy crap the hoops you have to jump through to adopt an animal these days.. it's good but holy crap lol

prisma briar
#

What hoops did you have? When I got my dog they basically just took contact info

forest edge
#

oh man they wanted background history, references. they wanted to talk to our vet and verify income etc

#

it was crazy

prisma briar
#

That's kind of absurd, lol. I think the most invasive question I got asked was if I had a house or an apartment.

forest edge
#

i say crazy but I am all for it in terms of keeping these pets from going to bad homes

umbral cliff
#

Pets are stupid expensive too

#

Knowing if you can afford one is important

#

Especially if it's a rescue animal. You don't want them bouncing between bad homes

forest edge
#

#

especially since they come with being fixed, all thier shots etc

umbral cliff
tidal bronze
forest edge
#

oh yea

#

pet care is insane costly

prisma briar
#

My dog was $200 when I got her but I dropped about a grand in the first two months on x-rays and vet visits

#

The shelter gave me a dog with a herniated disc in her spine without any warning, had to keep her crated for six weeks and feed her pills daily

forest edge
#

oh wow

#

coco is 4 years and she wasn't spayed when they found her. my concern is mammary cancer risk especially since I just lost a cat from that

#

but who could say no to that cat? lol

prisma briar

Friend sent me a laptop, he was poking inside (he tried to fix the keyboard)... But he broke a power switch flat cable while doing so. The thing has 9 pins, I tested those pins for continuity and it seems only pin 1 and 2 is actually connected. Is it possible that it's weird like that? I want to test if the laptop works, so I need a way to turn on the laptop. If I short those two pins together, it should start, right?

This is a weird place to ask that.

Why would you need that @snow hedge most modern ones are wifi ? 😄

snow hedge
#

Last thing I want is something bolted to my house, plumbed into my pool, and manufacturer goes "haha dropping support kthxbye"

clear ferry
#

I was sure the melcloud ones had some local control

#

I might be wrong

#

my samsung works directly with the internal https-server of the heat pump

snow hedge
#

I haven't seen anything about Mitsubishi ones having any local access, apart from the CN105 port

clear ferry
#

need to contemplate that when I buy a new heat pump

#

my current house has 3

#

my new house has one, but it is 10years old, so gonna replace it

snow hedge
#

Yea, it's quite a pain. From my research the main good ones I found was Mitsubishi with the CN105 port, but it looks tricky. Midea seems easier, but I couldn't find an installer in the UK.

clear ferry
#

The mitsubishi ones are defintivily preferred for me since I'm gonna live a place with 9months winter

snow hedge
#

Nice, feel free to ping me some time in the future and see how it goes. My first one is getting installed tomorrow, then I will try and make the CN105 ESP controller

clear ferry
#

Noice, I need to replace the floor heating control too, they are all "new" within the last 5 years, but none are smart, so I'm gonna go replace each with zigbee

#

have 9 rooms with floor heat

snow hedge
#

What underfloor heating system do you have? I recently home assistanted mine

clear ferry
#

regular electrical wireing

#
#

Looking at these, only £50 each

snow hedge
#

Ah, not like mine then. I got really lucky, mine is a heatmiser system, so I was able to make it smart by connecting a PoE to Modbus adapter into the data lines from the thermostats, and it's officially home assistant supported, 9 zone smart heating for £30 😄

clear ferry
#

ah yeah, all of mine are individual circuits, so need one for each

snow hedge
#

so are mine, but you can tell the thermostats what to do over modbus, the thermostats themselves are modbus 😄

clear ferry
#

oh fun

#

yeah I've only ever seen one house in my life with modbus in norway

#

and it was a weird house

#

with the CRT touch-screen

snow hedge
#

definitely like modbus, I had whole home power monitoring for a while with a SDM230, also modbus, but now I've migrated to the Emporia Vue, which is also nice

clear ferry
#

I prefer it wireless tbh, most of my doors are aqara sensors, most rooms are aqara motion, most rooms are aqara temperature, and all bulbs in my current house except one is smart

#

roughly 140zigbee devices in total

#

plus wifi

#

and some wired devices

#

and a whole datacenter in my garage

snow hedge
#

Sound a lot like me, I have same set of aqara stuff, apart from I prefer smart switches over smart bulbs.

#

I also have the little garage data center 🤣

clear ferry
#

I have smart switches in the bedrooms, all other rooms nobody touches a light switch

#

and all lights adjust every 5 minutes, throughout the day

snow hedge
#

nice 🙂

#

Are you using zigbee smart switches that are paired to the bulb or something?

clear ferry
#

my DC is kinda, work related, as in, I got all stuff for free, and I use it for personal and work related tasks

#

No direct connected zigbee no, everything goes through HA

snow hedge
#

nice, you've got more kit than me lol

clear ferry
snow hedge
#

lol

clear ferry
#

I've since added some stuff

#

plus you can't see the three switches in the back

#

nor the two in the attic

#

or the full aruba kit under my desk

snow hedge
#

If we bring desks in I might win 🤣

clear ferry
#

It'll be nice to move a place with 1\3 of the power price

snow hedge
clear ferry
#

Hey hey, I downgraded from 4 to 3 monitors recently, and I also have 2 keyboards, and 11 guitars and a drumkit, and some other stuff 😄

snow hedge
#

haha nice 😄

#

But yea, I guess I am Mr heat pump atm, starting with one in my office, then they are gonna do the bedrooms, then downstairs, then one for the pool too. 🙈

clear ferry
#

I have one in the upstairs living room, one in the downstairs living room and one in the bedroom

snow hedge
#

ahead of me then, although it's a minority sport in England, nobody has any cooling and heating is typically gas or electric, I don't know anyone with a heat pump

clear ferry
#

when I grew up everyone had 25+ convection ovens in their house, now everyone has 2 heat pumps

snow hedge
#

I think I'm gonna end up with 5 🙈

snow hedge

Neither, Mini PC

Or Blue

abstract hinge
primal laurel
abstract hinge

Mainly will be zigbee, tuya and simple automations like dimming lights or auto off light

#

And storing energy usage data

snow hedge
#

Looks like you have the space for one there, they aren't very big. Tbh it also depends on your scale, if you are a pretty normal household any of them will be fine, if you have thousands of devices and run other services too, may want to consider a mini PC.

iron granite
#

There are also passively cooled mini PCs available

abstract hinge
#

It will be about a dozen of devices

snow hedge
#

go for pi/green/yellow/blue then, will use less power, money supports home assistant, and you don't need the extra resources a mini pc would give you

abstract hinge
#

My main issue with a mini pc is that that it will be in a small enclosed Closet

snow hedge
#

and if it's purely for home assistant, may as well buy the official device

abstract hinge
#

Maybe but not sure it would also have the TP-Link omada controller addon

#

For the internal network

#

To be fair now Im actually starting to think of putting it on a mini pc and putting it in the Basement running in a VM, so I can also put in the NVR on the same machine

#

And support home assistant by getting a sky connect as the zigbee stick

snow hedge
#

Also a valid choice, if you want NVR you start to need more fire power, and storage.

abstract hinge
#

I do have a old hpe ec200 laying around could put in 2 3x disks for the 10ish cams to record on

snow hedge
#

I run home assistant on a rackmounted server with 24 drive bays, Radeon 7600 and 64GB RAM, but that's because I run lots of other stuff too, all about your requirements 😄

abstract hinge
#

Yes I moved it to the pi 4b I had at home for my home

#

Had to many incident with rebooting the servers and forgetting that and not being able to turn on my lights

#

Learned the hard way haha

snow hedge
#

Sounds like potentially some design snaffoos there imo, smart home should fall back gracefully, if your server goes down, your lights should still work

abstract hinge
#

What is on is on, but I did not bind my remotes

#

I replaced all my light switches with zigbee remotes, but hate the once I currently use

#

But yes small design fuck up haha

#

For that reason I'm actually recommending secondary remotes for the restaurant and keep the normal switches to

What's everyone using for storing code snippets these days? Prefer locally hosted over cloud if poss but not 100% required. Or do you just bung them on private gits? Asking because I now needed a snippet that I saw the other day, wrote a long time ago and wanted now. Of course, it has gone into hiding and I can't bloody think of where I saw it. I'm usually pretty good at filing this but I thought something purely for snippets might be a good thing

Got it allowing me to dynamically associate any sink with any source, group sinks/sources, and disable/enable any sink/source/route, got it also piping streams through ffmpeg so I can mix multiple sources together to send to a sink.

Wiim receivers support amazon music I believe

And they can cast your PC to any other wiim device

Well i'm glad for you.

IF the Minis have issue with wifi, I doubt somehting with a smaller antena would work better 😛

the wiims pros have ethernet, and I don't need to flash them

prisma briar

Took me like an hour and about $50 to set up three RPi Zeroes and put a service on them to run the audio receiver on boot.

thorny heron
#

took me 5minutes and 500$

#

It's all about priorities 😛

prisma briar

If your device can't stream audio over wifi then you've got issues beyond having a hundred zigbee devices, btw. Wifi's bandwidth makes even uncompressed stereo audio look like nothing.

Hell, my 4090 can't hold 90fps at that in a most VR games.

dire spear
#

i dont game, so my needs are different. we use the powerful video cards for rendering. some machines have 4 cards

#

and 2 epyc cpus

#

power is also a consideration. quadros for similar cuda performance usually consume much less power

prisma briar
#

You can get those on air in 1 slot too

#

hmmm

prisma briar
#

I eventually want to get around to testing my 3090ti and 4090 in the same box to see how much they increase LLM performance over storing part of it on CPU, if it's significant enough I might get an A4000 for the additional VRAM and so I can have something to keep an LLM loaded on.

#

I saw A4000's on eBay for like $650 when I looked last week

dire spear
#

we usually had bad luck mixing cards. also, serious deminishing returns after 2 cards. 1 titant, 100%. 2 titans, 190%. 3 titans, 250%, 4 titans, 280%. something like that.

dire spear
prisma briar
#

The main advantage the A4000 would get me would be faster memory compared to using system memory. Ollama can offload part of compute to two cards but the pci-e bottleneck is a bigger hit than having two cards helps.

#

From what I can tell looking at benchmarks at least

#

I might be able to get nvlink between my 3090 and an a4000

#

Doubt it though

dire spear
#

yes. more ram was the other reason we picked quadros and titans

#

need gpus with 128gb

#

😛

prisma briar
#

If I had unlimited budget or an actual use-case beyond 'I want to mess with LLMs' I'd go with an a6000

#

And just do it all on one gpu

dire spear
#

going from the 4000k 4gb to the 4000m 8gb was night and day

#

even though the actual gpu wasnt that much faster

#

48gb on that one

#

mmmm

#

thats been the big bottleneck with gep rendering. rendering the roci was like 100gb. so gpu rendering never fully lived up to the potential.

#

the titans had 12gb

#

err

#

yeah

clear ferry

I haven't seen anyone talk about A4000 in years now

I've never felt the need for an interior designer, tbh.

forest edge
#

if someone needs someone else to tell them what looks good.. telling them white is acceptable lol

prisma briar
#

lol, true

dire spear
#

ha

clear ferry
#

My sister was a trained interior designer, there was nothing to do, so she became a nurse instead

prisma briar
#

First thing I did when I moved in was paint the giant white livingroom a dark blueish-grey

clear ferry
#

Stuff like this, white everything

dire spear
#

i remember telling a cleint a peice of art they had didnt fit in the room and they were like "who are you to tell me what i can have".. "the person you are literally paying 100k to tell you what to have"

prisma briar
dire spear
#

in some ways movie work is exatly the same

clear ferry
#

Now I see why noone wants interior designers, it's a money drain

#

🤣

prisma briar
#

They also sound cocky

#

:P

dire spear
#

i given them version 1. they make 90000 iterations of crap... then go back to v1

dire spear
dire spear
#

cocky no, confident yet. you need to be

#

otherwise it all goes to hell

#

but more than that, you do need to explain WHY

clear ferry
#

People think I'm expensive at $300 per hour, they would faint if they hired an interior designer probably

dire spear
#

this is much more important in commercial, restaurants, etc.

prisma briar
dire spear
#

and often not even very good results

dire spear
#

i did commercial, so it was a lot more based on logic

#

and not 'vibes"

prisma briar
#

Commercial space design makes sense, there's things like customer flow and loitering areas to create/manage

dire spear
#

residential client AND designers can ber horrible people

#

often basing their ideas on nonsense

#

and bringing back REALLY bad trends

#

like google designer bathroom... then imagine having to clean it

#

thats the most colour youll get out of me

#

😛

forest edge
#

I could see a designer for like theme specific rooms, especially if said designer already had sources to obtain the stuff to make it work

#

but to paint my walls white and say it's perfecto.. no thanks lol

prisma briar
#

I'd argue a theater/TV room should be specifically not white and a dark color.

dire spear
#

the 50s diners were hard. brian hired a big famous firm and they tried to make a 50s "themed" diner with retro junk. he wanted a REAL 50s diner

dire spear
#

large saturated surfaces alter the lighting in the room in bad ways

prisma briar
#

Well yea, you use faded colors and pastels

#

Also bathrooms shouldn't be white imo. Something about white just makes a bathroom feel dirty, even if it's spotless.

dire spear
#

bathrooms always white because you want true rendered colour. well, maybe boys dont. haha

prisma briar
#

I don't do anything in my bathroom that cares about color accuracy, lol.

dire spear
#

ha

prisma briar
#

I don't even comb my hair in there, I have a full height mirror in my bedroom I use for that.

forest edge
#

bathrooms don't need to be white either. just light tones with proper lighting

prisma briar
#

I went to a party a couple weeks ago and their bathroom was like #0000FF blue. That was kind of funny.

dire spear
#

oh dear

#

ha

#

my friends music studio was pure red. carpet included

#

horrid

prisma briar
#

I went with a medium gray for my carpet

dire spear
#

and it was small

clear ferry
#

Oooh carpet flooring, are we back in the 80s now?

dire spear
#

i have oak

clear ferry
prisma briar
#

Did carpet fall out of style in Norway?

dire spear
forest edge
clear ferry
#

It hasn't been popular since the 80s at least

dire spear
#

today its hard to even find carpet

clear ferry
#

Never the norm

prisma briar
#

'hard to even find carpet' what?

#

There's like 5 carpet outlets around me, lol.

forest edge
#

carpet for bedrooms is a must.

clear ferry
#

Last house I was in with carpet floor was my grandmothers, in 2001, which was built around 1960

ocean oar
#

It's easy here in NZ, because there's always been a massive push to use locally-grown wool for carpet

dire spear
prisma briar
#

Home Depot doesn't sell a lot of things

dire spear
#

here they do

#

my house is all maple. ALL. bathroom included

#

(i mean the original 1940s floor)

prisma briar
#

Bathrooms should be hard wood

#

My grandparents had a carpeted bathroom and that always kind of grossed me out

dire spear
#

bathrooms should be tiles

forest edge
#

I dunno about that

dire spear
#

O_O

#

carpet bathroom? wtf

#

thats vile

forest edge
#

who said carpet bathroom?

#

I don't agree bathrooms should have a wood floor.. either tiles, or some kind of overlay

prisma briar
#

Well, hard whatever

#

Not fabric

dire spear
#

yes

#

modern materials would be a tile, or vinyl

prisma briar
#

I put vinyl fake hardwood in my bathroom when I redid it.

forest edge
#

even kitchens shouldn't be wood.. water and wood do not mix well

dire spear
#

wood in kitchen is a bad idea

#

hard to clean and swells if wet

prisma briar
#

Last house I rented had wood kitchen floors, they were all messed up by the sink

dire spear
prisma briar
#

But they were like that when I moved in

prisma briar
dire spear
#

also if you do wood, get a light or natural colour. cause dark woods scratch and look like crap in a year

#

my brother did a really dark stained oak and it already needs redoing

forest edge
#

vinyl is cheaper and easier to install over wood

prisma briar
#

Ugh, my livingroom has these live wood pillars running all around it and the previous homeowner got paint all over them and I can't figure out how to get the paint out without trashing the surface.

dire spear
#

(sanding in his case)

dire spear
forest edge
#

easier to install thus cheaper to have installed is how i should have worded it

prisma briar
#

I wanted the wood floor look in my bathroom without the hassle of having a wood bathroom floor so I went with vinyl.

dire spear
#

this took like 2 hours to lay. easy

forest edge
#

they make sheet vinyl for small rooms. perfect for bathrooms.. leaks can only happen around the edges

prisma briar
#

I bought pine and stained it for the trim, painted the walls a light faded yellow, replaced the vanity, sink, and toilet. I like the way my bathroom came out.

forest edge
#

supposedly the planks are suppose to be water proof too when they connect but eh

prisma briar
#

They're definitely not long-term in my experience

dire spear
#

yeah, id say water resistant

forest edge
#

oh i dunno.. i put some down in my moms well over 10 years ago and it still looks brand new

dire spear
#

but in a bath... mmmm

forest edge
#

her house is a single floor that is like donut shaped so went around the whole house with it as one piece lol

dire spear
#

but, you can always lifte it out, clean it, etc

forest edge
#

these were the planks

prisma briar
#

I was going to say that the floor we had growing up had a bunch of issues with warping then I remembered my parents installed it so there's virtually no chance it was installed correctly.

dire spear
#

ha

#

my dad laid sheet vinyl in the kitchen with a big seam in t he middle

#

guaranteed fail

#

the what now?

#

just stop

forest edge
#

old vinyl sheeting was more ridged and would brittle over time, the newer stuff is soft and even has like a sponge like backing to it

prisma briar
#

I'm considering laying down some of that style of hard wood floor in my garage. I was thinking an inch of thick foam for insulation from the cold concrete with the wood on top.

#

Would have to find one strong enough to park my car on, I found foam pads for that already

dire spear
#

i think what he used would be classed as "new" style. just a lazy instal

forest edge
clear ferry
#

Have to admit, few things make me as moist as US design from the 50/60s with couches down in mezzanines in the floor, and that kind of design

Unfinished floors? Is it a thing? Looks like a lounge area at a perfume shop. Which mall is this?

forest edge
#

if it weren't for most of them having shag carpet that would cover up imperfections they would look bad

dire spear
prisma briar
#

I was going to do self-leveling concrete to level it

dire spear
#

ah that works too

#

just costs a lot more

prisma briar
#

Just pour a small pad down on top of what's there

dire spear
#

less work though

prisma briar
#

I was considering trying it to level the subfloor in my kitchen too

dire spear
#

my patio slops 2", so self levelling is not an option (in the end, im gonna rip the slab out and do a new one)

forest edge
#

ew

prisma briar
#

lol, my kitchen has about a 4" slope

dire spear
#

self levelling is only really useful for up to 1/2"

prisma briar
#

Hmm, didn't know that. Should work for my garage still though.

forest edge
#

your house built on quick sand?

prisma briar
dire spear
#

while im sure 4" is an exxagreation, its definitely a sign something is broke in there

#

hehe

prisma briar
#

It's actually not an exaggeration, I had a contractor come in and measure how far the floor was off of level. There was about a 4" drop between one end and the other of the kitchen.

#

It's very noticeably sloped and stuff rolls if you set it on a counter

#

A bubble level just goes to the extreme

dire spear
#

so weird. home depot now has a LOT of carpet options online. (last year they had like 3)

forest edge
#

I would just move

#

at some point when structural issues come into play it isn't worth the $$$

dire spear
prisma briar
dire spear
#

see, you cant just level that. you need to repair it first. you cant add the weight of concrete even 1" thick to a normal floor

prisma briar
#

It's not moving anymore but it didn't correct what had already moved.

dire spear
#

ah, so its stable

#

just not straightened

prisma briar
#

Yea

dire spear
#

(also jacks are only meant to be temporary)

prisma briar
#

I've had multiple contractors come check it out

tidal bronze
forest edge
prisma briar
forest edge
#

yea

#

floor joist

#

floor jack

#

or whatever they call those

prisma briar
#

idk the proper name, heh

dire spear
#

anyhow
