Obviously you can manually switch an output to any input with the snapcast interface but my family doesn't even know that exists haha

So I first tried out Mopidy (which would be what's playing the music in this case) with snapcast clients on several devices. I would then play something on Mopidy and 'tune' the clients to Mopidy to play the music. But let's say I had a 'main floor' and 'outside' zone, I could have the zones independently play their own songs.

With my setup I have multiple LMS outputs to choose in the web ui

Ok I think this is making sense. Your destination devices are running snapcast client, your snapcast server reads from a single squeezelite instance, and it's creating X number of snapcast sources based on how many squeezelite sources you specify

And yeah they're configured as snapcast 'sources'

But one of the reasons I think you said you did this was because LMS starts to struggle with many endpoints due to its single threaded perl nature. Isn't that the same case here, where you're stilling 'streaming' to X number of squeezelite instances?

Ah, ok this is making sense now. I was trying to figure out how a 'single' squeezelite instance was solving the issue, but it's not. It's just multi-zone is tuning to a single squeezelite instance, but you can still play different sources in all zones using multiple squeezelite instances (technically) but no performance issue because it doesn't have to worry about keeping them in sync.

Yeah, snapcast is a much better delivery system when you want them all perfectly in sync

But yeah I wasn't that happy with mopidy/MPD

LMS has been under development for eons and can happily queue up music from a zillion sources

And the material UI makes it not look ancient lol

Yeah basically if you have all high-power LMS nodes and hard wired internet you MIGHT be able to keep it perfectly in sync

The valves for the knobs in the shower were shot when I moved in, they were flaking bits of rubber seal off and clogging shower heads, as well as leaking at a steady rate. I replaced the valves and it slowed the leak to a slow drip but didn't totally remove it.

I'm a Python guy, I have wrote an integration before, but have never wrote anything modbus related. The heatpump's documentation should mention, if it uses Modbus. And a list of the addresses it uses

All the ones I've seen so far usually have a controller outside the box, and the controller connects to two pins labelled RS485. Sometimes they have WiFi boxes that go inline with the controller. That's about all the information you get, but maybe I can find one that specifically supports modbus, that could make things easier.

I saw one that did specifically support modbus, but it was only for sale in Australia 😦

But thanks this at least makes shopping easier, ideally I want to find one with modbus as it sounds like that will make things much easier

Ah, not like mine then. I got really lucky, mine is a heatmiser system, so I was able to make it smart by connecting a PoE to Modbus adapter into the data lines from the thermostats, and it's officially home assistant supported, 9 zone smart heating for £30 😄

I gave up on logitech media server/squeezelite and started making my own router for the Scream audio driver.

Got it allowing me to dynamically associate any sink with any source, group sinks/sources, and disable/enable any sink/source/route, got it also piping streams through ffmpeg so I can mix multiple sources together to send to a sink.

Main benefit: My audio delay is around 250ms compared to the around 10s I got with LMS.

Our datacenter team is quite competent, too. I like working with them.

One of our datacenters doesn't have on-prem staff and we have to use smarthands for any changes, always takes like 5x longer to get stuff done with them versus in-house staff.

And they suck at things like keeping cables tidy

It's actually not an exaggeration, I had a contractor come in and measure how far the floor was off of level. There was about a 4" drop between one end and the other of the kitchen.

It's very noticeably sloped and stuff rolls if you set it on a counter
