#

Work of course still exports because fuck it why not I guess. Just isn't saving/earning money for doing so

dire spear
#

so i get paid back at 18 cents or whatever, and then i use it in winter at 8 cents

sudden forge
#

Even at weekends where we can be dumping 100kW to the grid

dire spear
#

the power company lady said most people earn money on panels and never pay a bill

sudden forge
#

Just checked. I do have export rates at home

#

But. I'd only be paid 4p per kWh

dire spear
#

ew

sudden forge
#

Of course I have no capacity to generate power at home anyway, but still

primal laurel
#

There have a few hours last year where after taxes and fees the price was โ‚ฌ-0.40 / kWh

sudden forge
#

And there's no split rate for exporting what I'd imported simply offsetting my import

#

Nah, if I imported a unit (28.7p) then exported a unit (4p) then I just get a bill for 24.7p

#

Hence there being a bit more focus here on self consumption over export

dire spear
#

here if i use 100, and generate 99, my bill is for 1

#

the meter simply doesn't register it

#

and if i generate more, the meter basically goes backwards (not technically but effectively)

#

and then every month if you have an excess, they refund you.

sudden forge
#

We're all on digital meters that know the difference

dire spear
#

so in peak summer time with the most sun, ill get big refunds. and in the winter over night ill consume cheaper electricity.

sudden forge
#

Even if they aren't true smart meters, they don't simply roll backwards

prisma briar
#

Yea, they track both in and out separately then subtract them

sudden forge
#

Thats my point, here they don't subtract

dire spear
sudden forge
#

My particular provider. Will simply bill me 28p per <one figure> then pay me 4p per <other figure> which still probably turns into me having an energy bill

sudden forge
#

Other providers do differently, but none of them subtract one counter straight from the other unfortunately

dire spear
#

net metering removes everything except the "net" usage

sudden forge
#

Mine is a particularly appalling rate. Some others would probably be more like 20p

prisma briar
sudden forge
#

Some do flex rates on import and export and those can end up wonderful in your favour

prisma briar
#

At least where I am

dire spear
sudden forge
#

A colleague for example is on flex rate, has solar, has battery and has some automation so that if the grid import rate drops below a certain figure she imports electricity from the grid to charge the battery up

#

And if the export rate goes beyond a certain figure, export it all

dire spear
#

i should add there is a monthly base fee of about $20. so to get truely 0 you need a surplus of $20.

sudden forge
#

And also exports everything at a certain time every morning as she's heading to work anyway

#

She has had negative bills

dire spear
#

see we dont have variable grid rates. its fixed by time of use

#

whihc can be dramatically in your favour

sudden forge
#

But such rates like hers definitely aren't the norm

primal laurel
sudden forge
dire spear
#

cause in summer during the day you use almost no power and generate very expensive power

dire spear
#

and since in december you mostly need heat power overnight when the power is cheapest, you can end up well on top

#

even with a moddest 5kw panel setup

#

5kw is most common here. 10kw is the max allowed

#

10kw would not fit on my roof

sudden forge
#

But basically the English export rates not being that favourable is why we kinda bias to avoiding exporting power in first place

dire spear
#

5 kw is perfect. my roof is unobstructed facing south east

dire spear
sudden forge
#

Yeah. It's why we do things like okay, solar overproduction? Kick on the water heater even though we don't need it hot right now, because that's less I have to heat it this evening

#

Using that excess to try and decrease what I have to import later would be more beneficial

dire spear
#

5kw panel kits here range form 6k to 10k. so over 10 year interest free loan, you pay $60-$80 a month and have a roughly $0 electric bill

sudden forge
#

And you get stuff like one guy I know, his heat pump is set to heat the house to 20c at 5pm, target just 15c during the day. Unless solar is high, in which case it does try and warm to 20c just so again later on the heat pump is working with a warmer house in first place and should import less.

#

And battery storage becomes particularly valuable

dire spear
#

smart thermostats are sooo useful. they dont seem it at first. but dropping areas at times to 15c when you dont need it is good money.

primal laurel
#

We definitely don't have that

dire spear
dire spear
#

but just as long as you arent heating and cooling rooms you arent in

sudden forge
#

My house was very non smart heated before

#

Ie, didn't even have a manual thermostat

#

I had to go press a button on the boiler if I was cold

#

Then go and press a button on the boiler when I was too hot

dire spear
#

mine was bad. just radiators all connected. so you keep you bed warm, the whole house had to be 20c

#

wasteful

#

anyhow. new insulation, new heat pump, and solar is my goal to have by next year.

sudden forge
#

Now, I have temp sensor in 3 zones, actuators on radiators in 2 of those zones (one zone is the bypass and basically can't be shut off if the house is to stick to building code unfortunately)

#

And a relay to kick the boiler on when a zone demands heat

prisma briar
#

You don't want all your zones closed anyways, you'll burn out your blower

dire spear
#

the panel set says i can generate on average 25kwh/day summer - more than double what i need. and then 10 in the winter... about 1/3 of what i will need.

sudden forge
#

Radiators here. Don't get vented hot air heating

prisma briar
#

Ah

dire spear
prisma briar
#

Yea, that would be the kind of setup that has a boiler, lol

sudden forge
#

But in a radiator system, 1 radiator does have to stay open.

#

And code hasn't been amended to allow that openness to be determined smartly

prisma briar
#

Plus a window unit plus my central heat

dire spear
#

pretty small unit to begin with. but ever small amount helps on the cold days

sudden forge
#

I'm not allowed to put all 4 radiators under smart control (one is in a bathroom so just has a plain thermostatic valve on it anyway and isn't smart) and just intelligently program 1 radiator to stay open as a load shedder for the boilers cool down run, law requires 1 of the radiators is just hardlined as always open

prisma briar
#

The cost between forced air and minisplit heads made it make no sense to get a central A/C here.

sudden forge
#

And unfortunately the one they chose to be always open is the lounge, I wish it was the bathroom one

dire spear
#

than heads

#

much cheaper

sudden forge
#

Unfortunately means if I am heating the bedroom, the lounge is also always being heated ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

But even so, just having set points involved to operate the boiler at all has already massively cut my gas usage

dire spear
#

for the shed a wall head makes more sense cause its one room

prisma briar
#

I would've needed to pull out my furnace to replace the A/C exchanger in it, it was all kitted for R-22.

#

And even if I figured out how to do all that I can't possibly do that by myself.

dire spear
sudden forge
#

So here we have heat pumps that can retrofit for a boiler and run the radiators. Or youd go split heads

#

Because we of course don't have the forced air ducts in building in first place...

prisma briar
#

I quite like split heads, personally.

sudden forge
#

Retrofit for boiler is more common

#

Especially if you have a hot water tank already as they can even do that

prisma briar
#

Nobody has boilers where I am, they're all gas air furnaces.

dire spear
#

the heads add $500 per head. which is a lot for my small house

prisma briar
static schooner
#

I wish that mini-splits didn't involve a giant plastic thing stuck to the wall

dire spear
#

๐Ÿ˜›

prisma briar
#

It's also only 2 ton and needs you to do the charging

static schooner
#

And that they often use IR remotes

prisma briar
#

I could've got mine for probably $750 less if I didn't go for a pre-charged one

dire spear
#

and i only need 1 ton really

#

the 3 ton ducted is only a few hundred more

prisma briar
sudden forge
#

The problem we do have is that a lot of the boiler retrofit type heat pumps run their working fluid at about 60-65c, whereas a gas boiler usually runs it at 80c. Some newer ones are closing this gap down (Samsung for example have a unit that can do 90c). But assuming you don't have such a unit, the liquid in your radiator is now cooler than it was, heat exchanges between radiator and room less effectively...

dire spear
#

you dont need the remote

prisma briar
#

Mine are UART over a fucky USB connector

sudden forge
#

What is basically happening is some folk are replacing their boiler with a heat pump but finding you suddenly need to upgrade to larger radiators too or have a slower warming space

dire spear
prisma briar
#

They came with a wireless dongle that went in them but it's UART

sudden forge
#

Tbf, esphome can also adapt IR air conditioners to WiFi/ethernet

dire spear
#

sounds the same

#

then

dire spear
sudden forge
#

I have one of those crummy dangle a hose out the window portable ACs I'm probably gonna rig up with smarts this year

prisma briar
dire spear
#

the ducted verison has a different wired thermostat actually

sudden forge
#

I have a monstrosity of a piece of insulation foam I use to seal the window frame while using the air con

prisma briar
#

It's serial over a non-standard USB-ish connector, notice the keying on the plastic on the USB port. I modified normal USB connectors to make mine.

dire spear
#

my ac sits in the window. cant wait to get rid of it

sudden forge
#

Honestly I hate how badly this AC works that gutting all the electronics to make them operate my own way has even been on the cards

dire spear
#

this one is wired. but im not sure how you can talk to it

sudden forge
#

Bust out a scope or logic analyser and spy on its goings on

dire spear
#

if kinda be treating it like a dumb system though. with valves. so maybe i would not need to do much other than trick the interface on it.

#

not alot of people do ducted so i dont think i saw any existing use with home assistant

sudden forge
#

All I did for my boiler was stick a dry contact relay on its previously wire bridged thermostat interface

#

Might be something similarly dumb

prisma briar
#

These are the wall units mine came with, they control my units over IR the same as the remote does. I don't actually use any of them though. I use the remotes or home assistant.

dire spear
#

boilers are ultra dumb. thats pretty easy. in this case i still need to control the modes and fan speeds etc

sudden forge
#

That's it. Default it just expected a bimetallic strip wired to its inputs, it had a wire link just forcing it to always on, and now it's a Shelly 1 reflashed with esphome

dire spear
sudden forge
dire spear
#

senville has their own dongle. so it not a guarantee all midea stuff works

prisma briar
#

That IoT dongle works across a bunch of different brands too

dire spear
#

anyhow. it will be fun whenever i finally buy the thing ha

sudden forge
#

No way to force my boiler to run if I want manual heat demand but I might add that

dire spear
#

home depot has rheem branded models on sale too. they seems to also just be midea. they didnt sell (for $3000, gee i wonder why) so they are now on blowout

sudden forge
#

More likely to add that on the radiators though, as they already indicate the boiler needs to turn on

dire spear
#

right now i just have resistive convectors hooked to a relay with is tied to an ecobee

prisma briar
dire spear
#

works fine, but wastes power

sudden forge
dire spear
sudden forge
#

Just a mains powered underfloor heating valve head I found and happened to fit a British radiator

#

Slapped on a sonoff R2 I reflashed with esphome

prisma briar
dire spear
#

home depot has the PA version the same price as the senville. but if i remember right this is the "warm climate" version. the senville is for -30c. special version

prisma briar
#

I get maybe 15 days a year the MrCool isn't enough to heat my house and I still have a natural gas furnace.

prisma briar
#

At the time I wasn't able to find any cold-climate ones in stock

dire spear
#

ahh

#

yeah. the warm one dies at -5f?

#

the cold one is -22f

prisma briar
#

Around -5f, yea. It's efficiency starts to drop around 40F though.

dire spear
#

senville has the wamr ones too, they are cheaper

#

they are trying to get rid of them cause of course noone in canada wants it.

sudden forge
#

I have some resistive heaters for when my living room radiator is undersized in the harshest weather or when the boiler breaks down (it did once)

prisma briar
#

Mine will switch over to a resistive heater on the outdoor radiator, too, and keep putting out some heat until about -15F, but at that point it's pretty dumb to run it instead of gas.

sudden forge
#

Though the cat is terrified of one of them

dire spear
#

i intend to leave the resistive as emergency backup. kick in if things drop below 14 or something

sudden forge
#

Yeah that's how one of the resistive units is set up

#

It's always on. It's smartified in home assistant

#

But it's target is just pretty low

dire spear
#

my condo heat pump never died once in winter. but condo is different than a house. and i dont know if that unit has resistive backup or anythign else. i never inspected it

prisma briar
#

I put a dumb thermostat in parallel with my smart thermostat on my gas furnace and set the dumb one to 60F so it'll kick in even if HA or my smart meter does something stupid.

sudden forge
dire spear
#

(except power failure at night)

#

hehe

sudden forge
#

The living room electric fireplacey thing isn't smart

#

And likewise the mini oil one that keeps my legs warm in the study is in lean over distance to operate

dire spear
#

i want the solar to have a manual switchover to off grid mode too if there is a daytime power outage

sudden forge
#

Solar being able to enter island mode is a rarer feature here

prisma briar
#

My furnace blower pulls about 100W while running and runs at a rather low duty cycle. If I lose power I can keep the furnace running for days off of battery.

sudden forge
#

It is available if you look for it though

sudden forge
#

It is here

dire spear
#

thats why i need to make some sort of manual swap

#

basically a generator type disconnect

sudden forge
#

That's what I mean, island mode disconnects from grid

dire spear
#

ahh ok

#

yes. thats alowed

prisma briar
#

You have to have your solar here connected to the grid per code, it's obnoxious.

#

Killed my plans for a battery solar system that was off-grid.

dire spear
#

what i mean is its not allwoed to feed solar tot he meter when the grid is down.

sudden forge
#

Yeah we can't export while the grid is down

prisma briar
#

You're just not allowed to have a solar system here that is offline

sudden forge
#

Or even keep the wires live

dire spear
#

i need to read into it agian.

prisma briar
#

It's a county code here

#

Not part of NEC

dire spear
#

i know there was some rules for it

sudden forge
#

There's a few US states and counties that have such laws preventing it

dire spear
#

i thought you were allowed to fully disconnect here.

sudden forge
#

And in many of those states you'll find those laws were lobbied for by the usual likely suspect

dire spear
#

just cant do a hybrid

#

anyhow. thats for later

#

power only fails very rarely anyway

#

(it used to fail a lot but they rewried the block)

sudden forge
#

Yeah grid in UK is very very reliable

prisma briar
#

I wanted to have a fully offline system and have a few circuits wired to it to do automatic switchover based off of power rates/charge times.

#

My power here is terrible.

prisma briar
#

I've had a half-dozen multi-hour outages in the last year.

dire spear
#

thats different to what im thinking. i just want emergency backup

prisma briar
#

If I just want emergency backup I'd probably just go with grid-tied batteries and ignore the solar part

dire spear
#

fair

prisma briar
#

It wouldn't take much battery power to power the circuits I'd want to keep on for days

#

Mostly fridge/furnace/lights

dire spear
#

when power fails here, it is at most an hour or 2

#

ususally seconds

prisma briar
#

I have UPSes on everything and don't really care about seconds-long outages

dire spear
#

unless a squirrel chews a wire at niagara falls

#

:x

#

i was in LA for that one luckily

#

3 days the whole east had no power

prisma briar
#

It gets absurdly windy where I am, like 60+mph/95+kph, and somewhat regularly causes power issues.

dire spear
#

so it should be solid now

prisma briar
#

They're working on it here but I think their plan still has 4 or 5 years left on it

dire spear
#

in toronto downtown we get frozen water mains once in a while and they have to shut down power to fix them often

prisma briar
#

I actually have a scheduled outage today to work on that, supposed to be right now.

dire spear
#

once at my office a car hit the hydro pole outside. that was.... fun

#

never can predict these things

#

hahah

prisma briar
#

We had a car veer off the road and run into a cluster of transformer boxes feeding my neighborhood once

#

Power was out for about a day

dire spear
#

i wanted a wood stove for emergencies, but they turn out to be more trouble than they are wort\h

prisma briar
#

I had a wood stove growing up, they're messy, you have to get them cleaned out regularly, you need to check them for obstructions

#

They make your house smell like smoke

#

They also do bans on burning wood fireplaces when pollution levels get too high

#

So if I had one I could only use it part of the year

orchid rose
#

wood fire smell is so nice though

dire spear
#

wood is banned unless its a new reburning stove here now.

#

but those are thousands of dollars

prisma briar
#

I think you can still burn cleaner burning pellets here too

#

But my fireplace just takes wood logs

#

(also NG)

#

I've been considering removing the inner fireplace and just walling over it

dire spear
#

meh

#

#

ha

prisma briar
#

I wouldn't mind mine but the hearth is just a concrete slab and mantle looks like a toddler flipped mortar on a bunch of rocks.

prisma briar

It just looks really crappy

sudden forge

One was 8 hours, some equipment went pop in a substation

last cedar
# primal laurel

Is there a similar diagram for Norway, Sweden etc? Very interesting

prisma briar
#

Denver is in a valley and we'd get these weather inversions over it where the hot air from the city would be trapped by a blanket of cold air and pollution would just hang there for days, it'd get awful.

#

I remember when they banned wood burning, that got a lot better.

#

It's been a long time since I woke up to a smoky hazy polluted day, now that I think about it.

dire spear
#

where i lived in bc was a bowl (2 rivers) and being made of sand, it would get dusty and just have a haze of dust

#

so not even industrial polution, just natually bad air

prisma briar
#

I've been to the sand dunes out here during wind storms before, that sucks

#

Honestly everything about sand dunes suck.

#

Such a pita to walk anywhere.

#

Hmm, noticing that my chargers all have the same anomaly with this 12ah 18v battery where they won't start charging it until it's basically dead.

dire spear
#

what voltage is dead. maybe they think its a 12v battery?

prisma briar
#

They're tool batteries and tool battery chargers, everything is '18v'

#

This is 3x the size of my next battery though and uses 21600's instead of 18650's, I think the different cells are keeping voltage higher longer

#

idk what voltage they consider dead

#

The chargers should keep them at 100% though, they should charge anywhere below that

dire spear
#

ah

prisma briar
#

It's at 17.5v right now with no load

#

But the indicator on the battery shows 1/4 and I'm pretty sure it's near dead

#

=/ the power meter on my larger inverter reads the capacity right too

dire spear
#

so the bms is preventing charge?

#

weird

prisma briar
#

Two of my chargers don't detect anything when I plug it in, the other says it's full. wtf.

primal laurel
sudden forge
ocean oar
#

@prisma briar Christchurch (biggest city in the South Island of NZ) used to have that problem. Was really gross back in the era of HPS street lights; if you were driving into the city at night in winter, you'd just see this orange-backlit blanket hanging over the city. Similarly, they started to ban open fireplaces and it's improved dramatically.

#

Of course, the 2012 earthquake pretty much fucked up any building that had a brick chimney, so a lot of them were gotten rid of that way...

prisma briar

#

winged obsidian
#

My full sized Fein would not work so well on battery

prisma briar
#

I have a 20 gal wired shopvac that pulls like 12A, there's not really any comparison between it and the battery one in terms of suction and capacity, but I don't need that to clean my car

dire spear
#

so i have succumbed to cordless

ocean oar
#

Me too. I've got an outdoor GFCI outlet for those times, but for most things I can have done the job and packed up again in less time than it would have taken to roll out the long-ass extension lead.

#

For some kinds of tools, high-end battery tools are on par with (if not exceeding) the power output of mains ones, really the non-infinite runtime is the only disadvantage

#

Of course if you own enough batteries...

#

Actually I'll also grant that the weight of the battery tools can suck sometimes

i cant fit enough solar on my shed roof ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

haha

tidal bronze
#

lol

#

You need 1 more panel and it would fit

dire spear
#

meh. not gonna bother. just need me a big ol extension cord from the house that can cary 100 amps.

tidal bronze
#

What are you really trying to do here? Bakyard shed?

#

I see all these renderings you dreaming or actually going to do something?

dire spear
#

i wired it up in nov. now i need to fishing the power run to the house, and siding

#

first picture it what it should look like when done

#

(wood strip siding)

#

getting power form the house is bothersome because there is a massive tree in between and there is 12" of soil.

#

the gravel in the pic of the door is the bedrock.

#

(also can see in the open floor pic, thats the rock)

tidal bronze
#

Why not run a drop from the house.

dire spear
#

above ground on a pole? that is apparently not allowed

tidal bronze
#

In your property do as you please

dire spear
#

ha. i wish

tidal bronze
#

or can you?

dire spear
#

they measure blades of grass here

tidal bronze
#

I forgot you are Australia V2

dire spear
#

anyhow. it seems (so far) my only proper option is conduit on the rock, encased under 4" concrete, detouring around the tree base

#

almost 100 ft of wire.

#

not cheap

tidal bronze
#

Solar + Battery is always there but you need to have a drop one way or the other specially becuase you are in Toronto ๐Ÿ™‚

dire spear
#

yeah. solar is cool, but not really sufficient as an only solution here

tidal bronze
#

Agreed

#

How many solar hours do you get on average?

#

4 +/-

dire spear
#

oof. the kit makers say that a 5kw solar panel kit (14 panels) will give 6000-8000 kwh a year

tidal bronze
#

That's not bad at all.

#

I run 42 panels and planning on adding a few more.

dire spear
#

we are on the same level as southern oregon here. so we do get decent light

#

but in winter, youd be screwed without grid

#

could keep the lights on, but little else

tidal bronze
#

I hear you. I am trying to get to 0 draw in summer with 3 AC's + Pool running.

dire spear
#

math says i need up to 6000 btu on the coldest winter day to keep the shed warm. with a heat pump thats gonna be 500-800 watts

#

plus computers, lights, cnc mill. etc

#

call it 20kwh in a day

#

the 14 panel kit will get 5-10kwh on a winter day at best.

#

so 3 panels on the shed wont do anything useful

#

anyhow. so i need a 100 ft aluminium cable run

tidal bronze
#

14 panels, 10khh? Up there?

dire spear
#

the worst days are probably near 0

#

and if its covered in snow its 0

#

but we dont get lots of snow here

#

ill get a system for the house hopefulyl next year.

#

i could just run a 30 amp generator cord for the shed, but legally you arent meant to run that continuous

#

can certainly do it as a temp initial solution though

#

outlet on house, and an inlet on shed, into the panel

#

30a breaker on house panel. so the 100a shed panel doesnt matter

gleaming crater

Most of these clients are running single-servers with ESXi booting from an internal SD card. No clustering, no vCenter.

clear ferry
subtle pasture
clear ferry
#

Sounds right

subtle pasture
#

ESXi will run with a dead SD card forever as long as you don't shut down

clear ferry
#

Istr it will crash if your scratch is on SD, and it writes

#

Might be wrong, haven't seen SD in over 3 years

subtle pasture
#

They installed 4GB SD cards. ESXi doesn't create a scratch disk on SD if they're that small. lol

clear ferry
#

Yikes

#

Jesus Christ

subtle pasture
#

Again, that was the standard 10 years ago

clear ferry
#

Was it? All gen8s I've seen have 16 or 32

#

I decommissioned a couple of dozen a few years back

subtle pasture
#

Still weird to me seeing Gen8 motherboards with SD-card slots surface-mount soldered near the iLO components

clear ferry
#

Makes sense since it is connected via the ilo

#

I'll show you a low level design if I remember

subtle pasture
#

Makes sense. I know iLO monitors the health of the card, which is why it had to be an HPE card.

#

It'll also let you rewrite the card from iLO

clear ferry
#

I've never seen it had to be a HPE card, our cards are just rebranded SanDisk afaik

subtle pasture
#

We always sprang for the ones direct from HP. The later ones were really goofy

#

One was a SD card that had two MicroSD card slots on it, which ran mirrored

clear ferry
#

The dual SD card to USB internal thing was fun, I had to remove 400 of those due to a firmware bug

subtle pasture
#

I remember that!

clear ferry
#

SD card mirroring is a gimmick anyway you still have to reboot to replace and reboot to remirror, and if the active one fails it still crashes, but we had to make it since Dell had it onboard

subtle pasture
#

I literally just swapped my homelab over from ESXi running on 3x DL380p Gen8's to Proxmox running on 3x Lenovo M920Q's

#

My office has never been this quiet.

clear ferry
#

I'm moving my rack with 5 gen8s and 36U of other stuff soon

subtle pasture
#

ESXi from SD was good until 6.5 or 6.7, then it started chewing up cards.

#

And they reccomended HIGHLY against even attempting to run ESXi 7 from SD.

#

I'm pretty sure the minimum spec for ESXi8 includes a SATA or NVMe SSD for boot.

clear ferry
#

It is no SD

#

And minimum 137GB

maybe this test dosen't test for as much as they do in the office.. still crazy amount diffrence

tidal bronze
#

BTW I might be in KC Friday grabbing some cooking stuff

forest edge
#

there is nothing appealing about califronia to me other than a waypoint to catch a cruisline possibly in some future date lol

forest edge
#

a friend of mine works for UPS and he does get sent out there from time to time when they do changes to thier truck line. "maybe" one time when he goes I may go with him only cause it's always during the car shows time of the year out there but big super big maybe

forest edge
tidal bronze
#

Then driving back to Wichita

forest edge
#

that just sounds wrong

#

sure i get it.. our food is less likely to give you intestinal parasites but still

tidal bronze
#

I have no idea my buddy says better options in KC so following his lead.

#

Will be in Wichita 4 days.

forest edge
#

bad enough you bastards move here now you want to come take our food too?

#

need to put a stop to that shit

tidal bronze
#

If you are free Friday let's meet up.

forest edge
#

and that was the last we ever heard from quadflight

tidal bronze
#

LOL or SAT

#

I have no idea why I agreed to do this with no direct flights to either coast.

forest edge
#

you are driving to wichita?

tidal bronze
#

Never.

#

My buddy who lives in Wichita goes to KC for fun (that's yet to be deciphered)

forest edge
#

the drive to wichita is not that bad from KC. 70 is pretty much the autobahn for that stretch lol

tidal bronze
#

Friends are getting together there since it's always NY or LA we thought of changing it up. Let's see how goes

forest edge
#

no idea what the state of wichita is today but it was pretty "farm" like the last time I was there lol

#

KC was way more modren to put it midly lol

tidal bronze
#

The only requirements were, distance to Costco and Total wine.

forest edge
#

sure they have a Costco no idea what Total wine mean

tidal bronze
static schooner
#

Total Wine just branched out into San Diego a year or so ago. They're great

tidal bronze
#

My fav!

static schooner
#

I went all the way up to Temecula a few times just to buy stuff there

#

Bevmo has become complacent

tidal bronze
static schooner
#

TW has a great selection of Whisky

tidal bronze
#

Wonder if they are shutting down.

tidal bronze
#

Not sharing with airbnb this weekend ๐Ÿ˜†

forest edge
#

gonna swim in someone else's urine?

tidal bronze
#

Got this one back to ourselves after ages. 2 days of urine is good enough.

forest edge
#

gross

tidal bronze
#

Actually upgrading the backyard audio system this weekend. I am stoked.

#

Anything to buy speakers

forest edge
#

wtf

#

why don't you just skip the system and buy the band

tidal bronze
#

There's only 2 rock speakers at this property. Going to jazz it up this weekend.

forest edge
#

I would say you could jazz up the farm but i'd just hit the stupid things with the lawnmower anyways

tidal bronze
#

lol. Going to add 2 x sub surface subs and 6 more rocks. Loads of wire pulls tomorrow.

solar zealot
#

so sub subs and rocks for jazz

tidal bronze
#

I only wish HA worked for rental properties ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

solar zealot
#

rental assistant

tidal bronze
#

I wish. Simply a nightmare. I did it only once and never again.

forest edge
solar zealot
#

could imagine them trying to make "adjustments" which tend to go horrible

#

more professional solutions may be better for this

forest edge
#

no, i would make the HA part optional, more so owner only. everyone else would have to flip switches etc

#

it's not like you can't build an HA system with the idea of mechical control lol

solar zealot
#

that feels like a horrible limitiation and privacy issue

forest edge
#

how is that?

#

so don't use cameras?

#

or don't run the cameras through it

solar zealot
#

"oh guess tennants dont need warm water in the evening because pensiveโ„ข๏ธ"

forest edge
#

hotwater tanks work fine without HA?

solar zealot
#

you could fairly easy figure out peoples habits

forest edge
#

that makes no sense to me

solar zealot
#

you seem to assume only the best intentions

forest edge
#

the electric bill will show people's habits lol

solar zealot
#

its a liability to maintain at best

#

no the bill really doesnt

forest edge
#

neither does an HA system in standby

tidal bronze
#

for airbnb it's always Control 4. Anything else you are just asking for trouble

solar zealot
#

you can monitor pretty much any consumption related asset with ha with rather high sample size

forest edge
#

thats why I said.. the HA part would be for you only

#

don't make the rental depend on HA at all

tidal bronze
solar zealot
#

it would be significantly easier to not include this system and have people put in their own stuff as they seem to require it

forest edge
tidal bronze
#

HA dashboard for tenenant idea died years ago. HA is not for that.

solar zealot
#

id not call that renting

forest edge
#

big difference between renting a property out for tenants over a considerable length of time than something that falls closer to a hotel type of stay

tidal bronze
#

Even I don't use the UI so how can I expect a stranger to? lol

forest edge
#

if your tenants are in there for several months in a stretch then yea.. HA is not for that

solar zealot
#

fair enough

frosty prairie
solar zealot
#

QF should add a cleaning fee, service fee and a fee fee for good measure

tidal bronze
#

This one is usually 2 to 3 months. All they want is whole house music nothing else. This one has a pretty extensive Russoound system that I did ages ago with local break-outs etc. Just need more dBs in the backyrad.

forest edge
#

where is this?

#

what state

solar zealot
#

looks warm

tidal bronze
#

Calabasses, CA

forest edge
#

gross.. all in caliland?

solar zealot
#

is the pool heated?

tidal bronze
#

All year

solar zealot
#

nice

forest edge
#

get yourself a nice place in texas and maybe i'll use it for a weekend lol

tidal bronze
#

You lost me at TX

solar zealot
#

not enough sea food i guess

forest edge
#

wait no

#

north jersy smells like ass

#

thats a tough one

#

maybe just past the tree line where the smell magically disappears lol

tidal bronze
#

Sorry east is just to travel and eat.

forest edge
#

close enough for the train

#

north NY seemed relatively nice too

tidal bronze
#

I do love upstate but can't live there

tidal bronze
#

I know you are scared of flying

static schooner
#

I think they travel by riding mower

#

Another interesting raccoon fact:

tidal bronze
static schooner
#

it's taking my mind off the fact that my water heater is leaking and I'm waiting for someone to call and schedule a time to replace it

forest edge
#

rental?

static schooner
#

no

forest edge
#

where is it leaking at?

static schooner
#

can't really tell this time

#

it's an ongoing battle for some reason. This is the third time it's happened in the last few years

#

the last time, it was rust developing around the flue and leaking from there

#

I'm kinda at my wit's end with it

forest edge
#

the heat causes the rubber seals in the outlet at the top of disintegrate which can cause leaks there. the drain valve can go bad and then the all dreaded corrosion on the tank itself

#

sounds like time for replacement

#

hope you got your 15 years lol
