Some homebrew to rebind the buttons and some scripts on it to call home assistant and it can do anything I want. It also has alexa and google home and a microphone on it but I don't use any of that

And I have an app on my TV to send the on-screen cursor position to my PC to control my mouse from the remote's gyro and set up a t9 system to run the keyboard from the remote's number pad

I wonder if anyone has hacked one of those to connect directly to a PC

I quit using my Harmony remotes for this thing

I captured the codes for all my devices and set up esp32's with esphome to send IR commands to everything

Everything I couldn't otherwise automate at least

I also have home assistant watch my TV and a script on my PC set to query HA every few seconds and go to sleep when my TV shuts off. My TV sends like 50 WoL packets to my PC when the TV turns on.

I have a 65" C1, never had any issues with it. I bought a colorimeter when I got it and color calibrated it and it's looked great and kept settings since. I reran calibration after 4000 hours of power-on time and it had barely changed.

Just news, there’s somethings at the chip levels to move stuff forward I think, some Facebook stuff on Instagram needs things like hooks or asynchronous improvements, I wrote something maybe it ends up as interrupts on the chip and basically that knowledge is somewhere else, a typical web developer won’t know how to do that or access resources to vote on when that stuff is ready

There’s stuff like security and things like that I have no idea about, but it seems like there are a few new design things ready or demoing on chip levels

on Instagram, I have to unlike something and refresh the page and like it again to go to the database

What does this have to do with home automation? Basically I want to connect everything to a database and while they can call apis, I think things like fibers or other concepts have to have a lot of code that people don’t like because there’s not a robust interrupt system for databases conceptually

I was reading about the crypto threads on the new raspberry pi, which makes me think they are handling the storage of password or other secure details that can’t be scraped from the ram easily

just now in 2024 it came out, there were pos systems for like 10 or 20 years with this issue

so maybe it’s just about expectations and celebrating when there is major progress like this

I love how the new light control in HA always shows the brightness value at the top regardless if you are controlling brightness, temp, or color

The grocery store across the street from me put gates in the front with IR sensors on them, presumably to control customers routes and prevent theft. I can see the gates from my backyard fence. I was considering seeing if there was some way I could focus an IR beam on one of those to make it open so I could go through the reverse way.

I don't train it on a specific object. I tell it what to look for (car, person, dog, whatever), it finds some and then I either tell it it's wrong or refine the box or tell it what else is in the frame

then at some point I generate a new model based on the base model and my changes

that's how Frigate+ works

I was, but you can then tell it that it's a false positive, and it influences the next model you generate

so, positive reinforcement + indications of false positives hopefully refine the model

the sun filtering through my backyard pergola causes all kinds of false detections when the sun is bright, so we'll see what happens over the summer and into the fall

I think the problem is that it causes a lot of motion to be detected because it's like bands of light/dark that move, and that creates more opportunities to detect stationary things that aren't really there

yea in winter even when there is no snow I get no false positives but once that sun starts to climb more above my home then comes the flood of false positives least till reaches the other side later in summer

About 6 months ago, with no warning, the flow rate out of our taps doubled

There's been something of a crisis of water leaks in our city, perhaps the council fixed a leak in our neighbourhood

I've lived in a few. I swear too in this country they used to install showers to suit people around 1.5m tall.

We also replaced the tiny 850x850mm early 90s original shower with a much larger 1200x900mm one. Aside from upgrading from frosted polycarbonate walls to clear glass (nice to get good lighting in the shower), the extra space is very pleasant

my grandfather had a solar water heater system put in like the 70's or 80's and it was it's own seperate water tank that the primary water tank would cycle through to passively heat up the water and keep it heat up during the day instead of using the burner

Same deal with gas here. They're steadily increasing the daily fixed costs, and connection/maintenance costs to make it unattractive. Our neighbours found this out the hard way just recently when their gas main started leaking.
Quoted $8k to replace the gas line. They decided to go with a heat pump hot water cylinder for about $11k instead.
