We have a problem with UPS here, need to replace battery, all devices plugged into UPS aren't working.

So I unplugged the router and put it directly into the wall so everyone can get daily work done while I wait on replacement battery. Unplugged main switch from router. Took my PC off ethernet and went to wi-fi backup.

I'm looking at the router, nothing connected to main switch is connected, including the switch itself, the server, and cameras.

SOMEHOW, I am, still able to access Plex and HA on that server, I am able to send commands and control lights, switches, etc. I have no idea how. I'm connected to the machine via ghost-wire.

AH, okay, I got it now.

Port 3 goes to one of the Mesh Satellites, Port 10 is me.

Normally, that's just wired trunking from router to that satellite...

... it seems that in this accidental configuration, it automatically corrected itself, connecting back to the router via Wi-Fi, then using the wired connection to provide a connection to everything attached to that switch.

Ok, holy heck, feeling better now. Thought I was really experiencing some haunted network.

Also, tracert resolves my connection to server in one hop, so it doesn't even count the managed switch.
Resolves my connection to the router in a single hop as well, so it's not counting the switch nor the satellite. Just shows 1 hop, <1ms.

Been battling with my son and wife because they like to turn on an electric fireplace in the living room because they are "cold" (it's actually because it's pretty). It has a "pretty, but no heat" mode but it takes a few extra button clicks and they are too lazy I guess. So after that runs for a few hours, the rest of the house is bone chillingly cold because the central thermostat is in the same room and thinks the house is warm. Long term, I plan to install some smart vents to work with a smart thermostat. But for now... a smart plug with automation that flips it off when the wattage usage goes above a few hundred (meaning the heater is on). 😄

South Island there are a lot in Marlborough (NE) and Central Otago (S) (Mt Difficulty, Cloudy Bay,
Attractions you should definitely check out are the Luge in Rotorua or Christchurch (https://www.skyline.co.nz/) (Rotorua one is better, and vaguely on the path if you went Auckland->Hamilton->Rotorua->Taupo->Napier->Martinborough).
Rotorua/Taupo is also the centre of NZ's "giant underground volcano" region 🙂 There's a really cool place called "The Buried Village" (https://www.buriedvillage.co.nz/) which is a Maori village which was buried in the eruption of Mt Tarawera in 1886.

Yeah and same here in NZ. But our roads are also an order of magnitude shittier, so y'ain't gonna be wanting to touch your phone while moving 😄

So out of that route, SH1 from Auckland to Hamilton is 2 lanes each way. Some, but not all of the route from Hamilton to Rotorua is.
SH5 from Taupō to Napier is renowned as one of the worst roads in NZ, not helped by that part of the country getting massively fucked up by a cyclone a year ago.
And if you take the route Google has there south out of Napier (SH50) rather than the main road (SH2), you're getting really into NZ back roads. They are neither wide, nor straight.
