Lack of imagination and suitable music I say, but rgbcct is a good way to go if you're unsure
lol
I have some of those but keep in mind that they have only 30 led/m for CCT
that worried me as well
found anything like this in 60?
tested your 30 under a diffuser? if so how did it look?
30 just won't look good imo. 60 is okay if it's indirect and 144 if it's under a diffuser. Sadly you'll have to make a compromise somewhere
Cabinet lighting I would go with 60
short of running two rows. im guessing you haven't found a CCT strip at 60?
Not with rgb
hmm
what the controller your running for these?
The old milight rgbcct, but don't know the exact model
are you still running them?
I think so
you live in a big house eh
somewhere behind the arch of the covenant
Hah no, but HA is too damn reliable these days so I haven't touched most of my stuff in years. It's boring 😂
They are in my kitchen inside enclosures so I'm not sure what's there, but it works 😛
ha gotcha gotcha
so your not too unhappy with them
i was going to ask if you were willing to snap a photo of their performance
Meanwhile I block out several hours for every HA upgrade because things usually break >_>
No but I wouldn't recommend them either since they don't return their status. There are better options these days
Clearly your setup is deemed suboptimal 😛
whats the better option?
More like HA refused to automatically fall back to IPv4 when IPv6 was busted, resulting in things like Litter Robot, Alexa, and Google Home integration all breaking. No helpful errors from HA about the issue, either.
i know the feeling. 10.3 crashes upon upgrade
on a pi4 with 8g
ZigBee mostly. But I'd ask on that channel what folks use these days
Took me until 4AM a few nights ago to track down the issues I was facing being related to IPv6
Thankfully the Nabu Casa integration was also broken, and the Nabu Casa wiki mentioned checking IPv6
But yeah, little annoyed that not a single error message thrown by HomeAssistant mentioned the protocol being used...
Lots of unhelful "unknown error" and "connection timeout" messages.
Imagine managing to break ha smh. My cursed Ubuntu installation isn't even supported and it still never breaks
Imagine HA breaking simply because it can't reach IPv6 addresses 😛
i wish my system gave me a message half this useful
what swag are you going to send me?
You can almost smell the pollution from the chimney
funny. we know they don't install chimneys in china
They aré smart chimneys
They produce Fake smoke
sounds like the new trump election slogan
one time. joke. not trying to be political
I Saw self powered switched
Never Saw those
They dont need battery but they connect to a relay
It's always magnets
Self powered switch connects by rf to relay AND relay connects to Energy
Imagine having things break
What install method were you using? HAOS?
Yeah
Yeah HAOS doesn't seem to like IPv6 too much for some reason
Container is the best method in the end anyway 😛
Isn't it a container on HAOS?
the transmitter must have been close by
100m line sight 30m with walls they Say
100m? you try to put a steak in between and see how long it takes to cook?
Yeah it's HAOS itself which seems to sometimes have issues
Not the container
That's why I run HA in k8s
I Will produce a few to start selling
im willing to buy in on the idea. but i would assume a battery on the device that could be charged by the RF
otherwise that seems like a lot of constant power to send over the air
might be like the first gen hue switch that harvets energy from the button press
They Say Energy Is produces by switch press
if it's on some proprietary HF thingy to the relay, and the relay then buffers and converts that to a proper protocol...
it's not new tech
makes sense you could charge the coil
Probably , they told me its something they patented but probably they aré selling me lol
but the coil will dissipate the energy as heat
that seems like a lot to keep in direct inductance
eh, patents might be super specific
or might be related to china's patents being disconnected to US/EU patents, so they might have one for china, while phillips has one in the US 🤷
or they may even be the ones that phillips (Ledvance? 🤔 ) licensed the tech from
no, ledvance was osram. Who's behind Hue?
best part about patents is that you can look them up and post their bullshit or witchcraft
or truth
a patent doesn't mean that the device has to work
ask them for the patent number and look it up. that would be my thought
at the end of the day, all a patent means is that you had an idea and had the money to file it
country dependent of course
but hey im like you i trust everything random strangers tell me on the interwebs 🙂
I like trusting people
Because you need to trust if you dont Trust there is no Trust
i agree. that's why i'm here. but everyone lives in their own box of knowledge and bias
Didn't Phillips just make hue?
I like the phrase, trust but verify
You're not saying you don't trust them
You just want to validate their comments
Yea, it's Signify now, former Phillips Lighting division
I think Ledvance was also osram proper but got spun off
Ahh okay
Companies get confusing
which reminds me, I need to ask my brother if his interview with Ledvance went well
maybe they got an employee discount 😂
anyone have a recommendation for an aliexpress controller that works with a 5 pin. RGBCCT like the one in the screenshot below:
#hardware-archived can help. Follow the pins there for budget, country, connection method (eg ZigBee, wifi, etc)

doh
Does that mean we get to play golf through the Stargate soon?
Right?
I was scolling back and saw Zack, LEDs, and then LEDs and Zack and was really confused.
Oooh, I have a good one for that.
Boss of my last job (small company, maybe 60 people) was keeping about $10,000 of wine in our server room.
About 3-4mo after I left, aircon failed and cooked it all (corks popped, ruined).
He was mad, and enquired as to the envionmental monitoring.
Unfortunately, because - aside from the wine - he was a massive cheapskate, the monitoring equipment was mine (bought and paid for), and I'd taken it with me.
My ex-colleagues took some delight in telling me that story.
I could probably do the same, and I'm pretty fed up after two years no raise in this economy
To be fair, you earn more than the gdp of some small countries....
🤣
Nah, that's Quad

I always liked how the cycles of pills on offer seemed to follow the state of the world/economy.
Things going pretty well => all boner pills, all the time
Shit's fucked => antidepressants, opiates, etc
None of my spam email is ever that exciting anymore
we did those trust falls at some point
trainer was not amused when I mentioned that I've done falling practice with martial arts
And would have just kneed an person (chosen by luck) in the face while rolling had they not caught me 😂
Oof
"There's just something about fluorescent-lit room that really gets the innovative juice stagnating." Oh what a true statement.
I've instituted a new policy of calling out that kind of bullshit, loudly and publicly.
If we have to be inclusive (which I'm absolutely for), then you're goddamn well going to be inclusive to the introverts as well, and cut that shit the fuck out.
Why be inclusive, when you can be a sarcastic ass-hole all day at work? Its more fun.
I mean that is fun too - in the case of the inevitable, making things as uncomfortable as possible for everyone involved is sometimes the only play - but it's tiring
the interesting part about the trust fall was to see people actually be unable to let themselves fall though o.0
Like, it's carpet. Unless you are actively stupid, even falling to the ground won't hurt you. A lot
I love going to the office because there is bascially zero chance you're going to get anything fucking done there
The walks to and from work are my favorite
Should be part of every entry level "how to programming" 😅
I am about to press order on 8x pi zero w boards but it feels wrong somehow
like.. how
did supply finally catch up at some point??
why 8?
the announcement of the rpi 5 helped with demand dropping of all other models. so supply is catching up. prob gonna shoot right past demand too
Those two models don't remotely compete, though
The supply there is ain't ever the model you want, either. Always the regular one if you're after a CM4, wrong RAM, or something.
because of the shortage people were just getting what they could get. but now instead of just grab and go, some are holding back
here every rpi4 model has been in stock since the announcement and not instantly selling out as they were before
I guess I waited too long to fund my retirement with the pi0s I have lying around
the w variant or no?
cause if it was the older w variant those are still better in many ways than the updated version.. but all the non w variants were trash
I have some of both
I used them for btle monitor presence and moved to espresense
@forest edge still juggling rpi huh?
like you with eating grass.. just can't seem to stop.
Waldorf and Stattler are united again
do you like espresence better than room assistant?
I haven't used room assistant
unfamiliar with the m5stack stuff but a video I was just watching on espresence recommended it
ahh
I just it for home/away, but it also gives me room info
@clear ferry got any switch recommendations? I need more ports. Must fit through the hole in the wall, 48 ports would be good, and poe
OLED. Any of the old variants is weird
Hmmm, will it fit in the hole?
if you get creative
I'd just put one and one Nintendo Switch in there
aight ladies
Ima install iobroker now
alright docker is out, virtual machine it is
good start already
vm is not bad tbh, just works. no idea how I will get the data into ha but there will be ways
phew that was quite easy
if anyone wants to integrate audi&vw into HA - this is currently the way as there is no native integration available
I think there is one for Kia 🤔
But it's kinda useless to me 😦
oh there is also https://hub.docker.com/r/tillsteinbach/weconnect-mqtt
i should try that before
nope, no audi support
Does this also work for my 1999 Volvo?
YES
Oh, I got a Kia in the end, ceed hybrid
And then I quit my job like 2 weeks after getting it
So I am back to my lovely old Volvo for now
you are so weird
I didn't quit because I got a Kia, if that is what you mean
Hahaha
Nah, I was being bullied by my boss is the short version of it
So going to be doing a project now, about 25% jump in pay, but lose the car, have a van I can use instead
And hopefully won't be bullied at the new workplace
Don't worry, we can bully you here if you miss it
I have been on the fence about buying the olimex over the atoms for Ethernet. Only reason is for speed. I know you aren’t doing room presence but curious if you have any idea if the speed difference will be noticeable and/or worth the cost difference (does the atom suffice). I have 3 rooms that are Ethernet friendly, the others would be atom lites
ehhh....I just pulled the rip cord on one 😜 Guess I will see for myself
I have one Olimex for a BT proxy and it's nice that it's PoE, but it's just a bare board and much larger than the Atom
I can't imagine that you'll see any speed difference at all due to the network connection. I've had no issues with performance or stability with either.
Trying to get an ESPHome voice assistant working. My entire house is silent and I can't get it to record audio that well... But what the hell happened.
I posted it there too but you can't add pictures.

@clear ferry which google coral did you end up with?!
Hey all, I'm new here at this channel and I have a problem with the fork of dev-channel on github. Where can I send this question?
I thought so 😉 thanks @primal laurel

Rust is really popular for kernels in hobyist circles, actually.
....
And assembly in masochist circles.
I should read footnotes
The signature look of superiority reminds me of the time someone came to the c_programming subreddit and asked for the official repo for the c language.
That was brutal.
"C was etched into silicon tablets by Dennis Ritchie"
But I'm worried about their performance warning. Hope it isn't too bad
I mean, they only said that they had to raise the specs
not that it runs like a powerpoint presentation on every pc
My powerpoint presentations are feared
hahaha
I'm excited for CS2 but I'm not preordering anymore😂
Well, Linus has said the entire Linux kernel should be rewritten in rust hasn't he?
lmao I thought you meant Linus Sebastian
I only know one linus... the true one

Does treating Roombas that way count as domestic violence?
lmao how the "verified" joke has aged
If my daughter saw that, she'd order about 10 Roombas
I made a poll on the tado° community forum where I asked them to open up their devices for cloudless control. If you are a tado° user, please vote
https://community.tado.com/en-gb/discussion/20068/should-tado-open-up-their-system-for-cloudless-control
About a year ago I had contact with the tado° support and I complained about the lack of control I have over the TRVs.
Very off-topic. I have a network question. I discovered a device on my network (Unifi running off a UDR) that shouldn't be there. It was a powerline device, connected to my wifi.
that's not a question yet
smartass 😄
I've now blocked it, but obviously somehow they must have had my wifi password right? Or at least somehow got onto the network.
Can I find out how this happened, or maybe even where this device is?
And obviously I'm changing my wifi password for that SSID to avoid a future login.
I think the UDR stores when the clients connected that could be one data point to go of from
Also I am not sure how a powerline device can be on your wifi I was under the impression those require a wired connection
Yeah I can see the date and time it started, it's 2am on some day in July !!
Yeah, it seems this was a router that connected to wifi, and then routed the data into the powerline
AVM Powerline 1000e
Does it show any other information it logged? Maybe the loss?
But I do also realise it can be another device that's being mis-identified by my UDR
The loss?
Loss can help you physically locate the device or atleast give you a rough idea of where it is
Yeah like the db loss or signal strength
Ah gotcha
Yeah and its powerline so it shouldn’t be 5G but if it was on the 5G network then that should also give you an idea that the device is likely not far off
I can't see (or don't know how) which band it was connected to. I'm wondering whether I'm going to find out down the line one of my iot things are now no longer working because it was just misidentified. Maybe I should be better at naming my devices when I add them. EIther way good lesson
Yeah lol
What I like to do is when I add devices on my network I add the mac address in a static dhcp lease so firstly it gets a static ip and secondly I can track the device
Plus since it has a static address I can do stuff like give it a dns name or have per device firewall rules
Yeah, I need to start making my network more structured, and eventually more secure. Just watched some nice YT videos about it (by The Hook Up) since I'm not really knowledgeable enough myself.
Will follow his structure and advice.
It's better to have a structure early on now I only have 35 devices, once I have more it gets harder and harder to do of course.
Yeah if you are doing mac address stuff but really if you know your networking even that can be pretty easy. Just switch off non iot devices and get the list of all connected clients through either the router, the AP or another network inspection tool
Well well well... So it's my amazon Echo that has decided to identify as a powerline adapter.
Powerline adapters can do very weird things to your network,
Especially when there is >1 device connected to them. It gets real funky with mac addresses
Forgot to flick the PSU switch
Too often I liken our 'collaboration' between the US and India as 'chess by mail'

I think someone is there right now. Would be surprised it there wouldn't be anyone.
it's a big place
thats what the gov wants us to belive
Not meant rude, but: other people cannot do that? I mean, the people in #diy-archived can do many things. Even if they are not from Vancouver.
It's a skill passed down through generations of Vancouverians
Dang! I should have read the documentation
@static schooner how does it feel to be the king?
last I saw this week we were third, but yeah
somehow we're just a "major market" and not a "premium market" for the purposes of my company
https://realestate.usnews.com/places/rankings/most-expensive-places-to-live
Hmm CA is expensive 😅
How much to buy CA?
Same price as Germany
Ah. The usual symbolical Dollar.
Fire tablet as a wall panel is making me want to throw it out the window, it won't let you set the time manually, I've got it firewalled so it can't connect to the internet, it ignores DHCP Option 42, it ignores using adb shell to set the ntp server, I tried rewriting the DNS people say it uses for NTP to my local NTP server. :pain:
half tempted to just sell it and buy something that is rootable / has lineage support, if there is such a thing in this dystopian future we now live in lol
Those stats are hard to digest because it's some amalgum of prices and income. For example, San Jose:
San Jose, CA, Quick Stats
Metro Population
1,995,351
Median Home Price$1,524,907
Median Monthly Rent
$2,511
Median Age
37.4 years old
Average Annual Salary
$99,430
Unemployment Rate
7.8%
San Diego
San Diego, CA, Quick Stats
Metro Population3,296,317
Median Home Price
$919,507
Median Monthly Rent
$1,842
Median Age
36.3 years old
Average Annual Salary
$67,200
Unemployment Rate
San Diego's average salary is quite a bit lower, so that tips the balance
SanJose used to be nuts with prices but....
I'm surprised that our average home price is below $1M. That's pretty hard to find
Unless you go pretty far out
No doubt. Inventory is so low and things are rocketing again.
8% but still over asking cash offers.
Looks like <$1M here gets you a 1-2 bedroom condo
prices are defintely higher in San Jose/Santa Clara/Cupertino/etc, and houses are probably 30 years older
Me, every time I code, but substituted with a cat
I don't get it.
Have you seen FMA?
That is a typical atx meme
Only 30 days?
Thats one of the best reactions one can get tbh
Nice dog
OH MY GOD IT IS SO CUTE AND FLUFFY AND CUTE OMG
I know someone who gets it with nightmares.
Hi Guys, assembling a new computer right here. What are the chances of getting a DOA cpu-cooler - NZXT Kraken Elite 360 does not seem to turn on. Ive checked everything three times, went out of my way to try another sata cable. And also the bios says 'cpu cooler not connected'
CPU cooler has an own connector - not SATA
id recheck that it plugs into the cpu fan header and not the secondary or pump one
tho there is always the option that its doa
I will dit that again, already submitted it for a RMA
Btw, shouldn’t that display be showing something, regardless of whether the cpu header is connected or not?
Display on the pump - is what I mean
how else are you supposed to watch pepe memes?

No. Vas ist that?

I'm not thrilled to see the Phillips Hue news. I only have two rooms with it, but the kvetching I'll get from the luddite family for removing the motion-sensor+hue setup will be headache inducing.
at least they can be turned on/off like regular bulbs if I can't physically reach up there to remove them yet...
HA integration when?
You could look at using zigbee2mqtt, I believe the rumour is still that the bulbs may well be able to continue working as normal as long as they are not on the hue hub
This is awesome 🙂

oh right, should I cut the bridge from the internet before it pulls an update 🤔
Why?
You can fly your freak flag as high as you like as long as it does not impinge on the family friendly backbone of this server, see the CoC. I just looked up if Studio Ghibli was considered anime. The consensus was 'yes' but Disney was mentioned far too much.

Because of the supposed forced login
if the bridge never gets new software, they can't downgrade the functionality
Ah! I thought, you were talking about HA 😅
I think I allow free network access for that
I should rethink that at some point though 🤔
yes, put your hue hubs offline. nothing is going to change

we have a similar problem in New Zealand. People keep comitting crime to go back to prison. You get a warm room to yourself with a ley and your own tiolet and shower. You get your own tv with a playstation. All your meals are provided, washing done for you. You can leave the prison to go to work and come back each night. The basketball court has a sprung floor (only prison courts have a sprung floor), each block has its own rugby field.
lmao have you seen the state of sweden, plenty of people have already come to do that
Sweden is currently a cesspool of crime, but that is another discussion
I'm surprised @last cedar hasn't been shot at yet

What's that?
imagine it taste a lot like your kelp. you might like it
So great tasting 👍

What even is this
It’s an ADT alarm panel tablet thing and multiple WiFi brilliant light switch things I think
They’re all over the house
That's awful
oh i've got better
i walked in and found this
and when i was initially asking questions before ordering the router/switch/APs i mentioned we could spend a few hundred more and get a shitload more PoE budget and ports for cameras later and he said no need they will add cameras later blah blah. then i find this bullshit
the bottom half is 8x hikvisiok PoE cams spliced together in a bundle of fuckery connected to two unmanaged netgear switches
oh and check the length of the wires going to each room that they gave me to work with lol

They put all the unshielded Ethernet runs right next to mains
It was fun mounting them too
Who said that I haven't? :/
The problem is that this is better than at least half of the new builds 🤣
Isn't that a Vonage adapter in the back. 🤔
Right.
I have only been within a 500M radius about 4 or 5 times. That town is an absolute ghetto
What were you picking up in "that town"?
|| doormats ||
Nah, used to live and work there
Now I am working there, moved 30km away, mostly because of the shit going down at least once every week
Sounds like @forest edge barn
I just shut off the power to a bunch of circuits to install some Zigbee fan switches and when the one attached to my whole house fan briefly turned on and then died, I flipped that breaker on and off a few times while I was trying to diagnose the wiring. It turns out that it's simply not intended for the amperage of that fan (the new Inovelli Blue fan switch only supports 2.5a (!)), but the constant power cycling caused the filesystem in my pfSense router to corrupt and I spent another 30mins getting it into single user mode from the console and running a filesystem check. At least it was able to recover without reinstalling...
I don't know why pfSense doesn't run a filesystem check/fix whenever it boots
there are lots of identical instructions for "when it blows up, do this!", but it could just as easily do it on its own if it can't successfully boot
I think i am alomost finished with my desktop widgets

I'm kinda impressed how many more clicks you got after pulling it out of the outlet. Must have a pretty chunky capacitor in its power supply
That sounds like rod knock, you forgot to fill the oil after you drained the oil right?

@last cedar how was your flight lesson?
Been watching band of brothers again. It's so good, but man does it get brutal towards the end
As I recall, different folks directed each episode and parts felt uneven to me. There were some really powerful episodes, though
Yes
I remember there was one awesome one and the next was a bit of a letdown. But it's been a really long time
I also switched from ufs to zfs (it was an old install) and that was super-simple. The pfSense installer grabbed the current config, wiped the machine, installed fresh, restored the config, and it came up right away. Shockingly simple
I lost my Band of Brothers DVD box, when I moved house
My back still hurts
It was like 8 years ago

Does anyone have strategies to keeping their tab usage in check? I am cleaning up a bunch and some of these must be like 6 months old
I just close my tab when I leave the bar for the night
lol
Didn't someone show that off on the latest release party stream?
It is kind of cool 🤔
But no remote control and battery powered. Much tinkering to get it integrated in HA.
That ikea item might be more stable than the ha blue at least
That's Almond Joy by the same manufacturer. Mounds is the dark chocolate, no almond version.
I close them all. Tabs are for now, bookmarks for later (never)
never let an electrician do low voltage...
I do both for my own house FWIW but it's like plumbers doing HVAC on the side, where they feel like/are told that they can just "plug in" some additional knowledge to their current skillset to make more money.
I think most of it comes from google searches. Would be nice if I could auto group anything from a search and then save those groups for later
There are about 5000 chrome extensions that group based on URL which seems useless...
There are tab managers that will tree off parent tabs but I end up not really using them when I try them
Well if you have a group new tabs already open within that group
🤷♂️ I don't watch them
paulus did
he has it in his backdrop
@red rock Preload is available on Steam now

TheLockpickingLawyer released a video about a gun safe today. It is almost a "and it goes... in the square hole" video 🤣
I just replaced my last Insteon switch with a Zigbee alternative and got to finally remove my Insteon PLM. Still looking for a good Zigbee alternative to the Aeotec Wallmote (battery-powered tabletop remote) to decommission my Zwave network
I got some similar ones from Moes, but they're not nearly as nice
Maybe the Aqara Opple
I've got one of the Aqara D1 remotes and it's not great, you often have to press it twice so that it wakes up and then sends the signal. The E1 however "just works" 100% of the time.
The hue rotary has 4 buttons + wheel, maybe it fits
LOL
You've seen it? 😆
Didn't want you to become too lazy 😝
Smh
I've started looking at houses again @last cedar
Still won't look as good as mine on the outside 😄
It looks about 40 million times better on the inside though, holy shit
The dog gets sold with the house
I was wondering
But not my fav sort of dog
If it was a Tanuki I would be all over that house
LOL
It looks pretty nice, and price isn't too bad
needs some love and care here and there, but that is fine
Barneve...
Like
In the netherlands you have a bible belt
Barne
Child
Vennlig
Friendly
And then there is a city called Barneveld, which is like the capital of the bible belt
Well... obviously the soccer watching man is included too
where you get shot if you do something fun on sunday
The mountains would be mine too then @iron granite
and where news is spread quicker by mouth-to-mouth than via social media
Of course
I'm curious why they are selling though, the ad specifically says that they just renovated the hallway last week, and they bought the house in 2022
and it was also sold in 2020
👻
It even has a small annex to the garage where I can have two racks
Problematic neighbors? 🤔
The sales papers specifically call out very good neighbours, one neighbour even has allowed the previous owner to build the garage 1m onto his property
I am curious what size that TV on the wall in the living room is though, mine is 77" and it looks tiny compared to that one
5.5 MNOK? For that?
But why isn't there a single photo from a bedroom?
I've already sent an email to my bank contact asking about what offers they can give me
I think it is just spounge painted
47 million doormats, take it or leave it
I'll leave it
It should release at the same time for all - in 1h
yes, but me and the boys forgot to take timezone in account
It shouldn't matter 🤔
Or do I get you wrong?
well we just thought it released at 5
lmao yes
I used the remaining time to automate my candles 😆
Now I need something to sense hand clapping to do the "Bruce Almighty" 🤣
wait what
I had a Switchbot Hub Mini lying around, I didn't use. I got some cheap IR controlled artificial candles, included the IR remoted in the Switchbot Hub Mini and use the new integration to turn the candles on and off.
the new intergation?
The Switchbot Cloud integration
oh nice
Did not even know that was possible with that integration even though I reviewed it 😂
I'm handling the Switchbot stuff locally via BT. I'm just using the IR blaster via the cloud integration.
But it works quit well
The game has been released already and its running pretty well.
But the gameplay has gotten worse.
We are not talking about CS2. We are talking about CS2
issa powerpoint presentation
im just scared CS2 is like CS1 and you have to buy a shit ton of DLC's to get some basic stuff
It is running a bit better, if you set the Geometrical Cache to 4GB
On my potatoe it isn't pretty, but not a total ppt
the sad truth of the gaming world as we know it...you already know the aswer to your fear lol
I just wanted all the transport options available in CS1, I figured out I had to buy like 6 DCL's. So I uninstalled instead
Joostlek is already working on the Cities:Skylines 2 HA integration
That's the one that began as a trafic flow simulation at some university or something, right?
I think so yeah
they use some optimal path planning algorith now, with an objective function
quite interesting math (for me)
The reviews are... not ideal for a game's start
Most "funny" votes yet
yeah its a dumpster fire... oh boy
dont understand why they released this, makes no sense
Do you get something from Steam when people like or find your review funny or is it just about dopamine?
The recommended GPU range for the game is somewhere around 3% of steam users so who could have seen it going wrong...
you can get awards, which gets you points, which doesnt get you anything
people are saying they get 20 fps on a 4090\
oh lol okay that's worse than I thought
IIRC the first one was pretty heavy for its time too.
The pride and accomplishment
gotcha
They really should reward that in some way but I guess it would just lead to more review bombing than even now
Yeah. With the steam demographic that sounds like a terrible idea...

EA intensifies
classic helpdesk issues
ELEVEN MINUTES‽
I've spent 4 hours once assisting a customer over telephone with a computer that didn't work, we tried restarting multiple times
turns out she pressed the button on the monitor to reboot
I'm glad I don't have to work with users anymore
Yet another reason why people should leave netgate behind
Dick move right there
Yeah, just reading that...
I really need to pull off that opnsense conversion band-aid soon...
22 years later and this is still relevant
The original official oft stolen and illegally posted video I made years ago.
Last i checked the config still can't be readily converted, but just spin up a VM and configure it, then export and install on the actual router
!! Extrude only move too long (50.000mm vs 50.000mm)
🙃
I run it in a vm on proxmox already, so I really have no excuse.
Could also be a good time to get an actual system for ip addresses…
I used to run pfsense in proxmox in virtualbox on my mac… used that as my router/firewall for my home network for a couple of weeks for testing. That was like tripple-NAT…
I start at the end of the range and repeatedly shrink the DHCP pool when I run out 🙂
Every so often I prune entries for devices I no longer have
friendly reminder to backup your opnsense config before you upgrade and shit breaks
I do that daily
I learned that about two versions ago
That said, I haven't had an upgrade issue with opnsense, since I started using it in 2018
Had lots with pfsense over 14 years
You might as well just cut the ethernet cable, at 3 NATs 🤣
Take that, MyQ!

@iron granite this is a very good shooter
Very fast paced
Not sure I trust no P2W from Nexon but an arena shooter would be fun
@subtle pasture I just ordered a Aruba training kit, AP615, AP635, 605R, 2x6200F fanless, 2x9004, Uxi sensor, USB LTE Modem
Don‘t you automate? Let it open when you come home! 😉
I played the closed beta
Is no p2w
Homeassistant in ma car 🥳
Pretty cool
That's a lot of views
what RF protocol?
@scenic radish zwave
zwave LR I assume or just regular zwave
I have been trying for ages, but I can't get it to work on mine
This is in my car, the display is hard to read for my dashboard, and struggling with touch screen?
Any tips?
Use this, supports everything
android auto or automotive? or is that screen mirroring lol?
Awesome, tyvm@dusky plank
Ios carplay, with a old iphone 8 and some tweaks. Lets you run any apps you want and also mirroring
It would work wireless but then it would use the cars hotspot so i just cabled it so then it uses my phones hotspot
oh niice, yea google blocks that stuff on android too but there are apps like CarStream that let you do the same thing
Handover is really great with this, can still take my calls
V70?
Sounds about right
But I actually have a 2 DIN unit, should have got the Pioneer one, not the Sony
It is the worst Sony product I own and I regret buying it very very much
Indeed
I thought it was related to the business name until I reread it a few times
Meant to catch people who are too drunk to drive home?

Got emudeck working on the steamdeck
for a second i thought its the car radio again
Nintendo games could probably run on there as well
The deck can run switch games now... So yeah
Where do you put the cartridge in?!
😂
I got Animal Crossing working on my Deck but I have a fusee-vulnerable Switch
I've only used my actual Switch to buy and rip games for a while now
Emulation plays games far better than a physical Switch
I love that fusee is unpatchable. It's still weird to me that it's not permanent though
Tethered/ephemeral exploits are pretty common
They generally come before a permanent exploit because they're generally a stepping stone to getting one.
https://twittpr.com/tombomp/status/1717641500891238536 @iron granite
So they need a dentist for performance optimisation 🤔
Excuse me
Someone in development team has OCD
And it can only be satiated by more cowbell
I'm sure
they really need to do some optimizations
if you're in map view there is no point in rendering individual teeth
I will definitely buy it but will probably wait another month or 2
After putting a few hours into skylines 2, I have loved it
Getting like 20-25fps, but that's all I really need
It's a city builder you don't need 60fps
I dont need anything, but I want everything
Cities doesn't use fps, it uses tps (teeth per second)
powerpoint slides / minute
have they never heard of LOD?
its just unfinished
like cyberpunk, it became a good game only a year after the launch
Why stop at the teeth, why not the individual atoms that make up the teeth?!
That is the most aerodynamic cow I've ever seen. Must be some sort of racing cow
except for the spherical cows that you use in Physics
I am mostly surprised how aerodynamic the udders are, tbh
Oh nice, a LWN article about HA
Wow. I wonder if there are any ex movie VFX people on their team. That sounds like the kind of shit we get up to
Upcoming patch notes: removed teeth of every citizen
I imagine some sort of microtransaction that allows you to buy a set of teeth. And then dentist care, of course
That just sounds like American healthcare with more steps
its paradox, dont give them ideas
They’re way too straight fo the British system
Quad is right, shitposting from a Plane is dope
What are you all up to on this undefined time, as I have no idea which Timezone I should assume
how can domain prices vary this much between register sites
like do they just pocket the whole difference???
yup
I mean, you need staff to administrate everything, staff to support not so smart end-user, lawyers and all that stuff.
But many drive a very big profit margin
well that does make sense, but between 12 and 32 bucks a year for a specific tld vs 7 and 1.50 there kinda is a difference
Its up to you as the buyer, to buy from the company that is the cheapest.
its your money you are spending
yes which is why i now am mad and about to register it at cf
luckily they have that tld
do it
i pay 1,92€ a year for my .de domain, technically
realistically its for free
waiting for it to unlock :wobble:
cf sadly wont accept de ones, but they are on a sepa auto renewal which is fine
namecheap however was spectacularly unhelpful
name"cheap"
Any clever folk that would know what something like this tool was built with? It's a configurator tool, works in the browser.
https://player.vimeo.com/video/709506101?h=7a4b038300&autoplay=1&loop=1&muted=1&controls=0
my basic webserver + .net domain went from 30/year to 190/year. So yeah I cancelled it lol
only thing i dislike about it now is that i dont have them all in one place
but its cheaper like that
nice ;D
Domains are generally cheaper if you avoid resellers and purchase directly from the TLD provider, if they offer that. Not all do.
i would have hoped getting a decent deal on netcup
but they were insisting on the listed price
for what product?
a .app domain
I haven't paid for my domain or hosting in almost a decade, lol. Perk of working for a hosting provider.
cf wants 12 bucks a year, they call about 36
they do offer me .de for a buck 50 tho
I do maintain a single domain of my own at another registrar that I have my VPN and stuff set to use though, that's like $10/year for a .org.
like i dont try to count cents here and there, but like over twice the cost its worthwhile
(just super slow to unlock it for transfer)
We just let our customers generate a code themselves through their account panel.
i unlocked it and got a code, just cf does still show it as locked
Do you mean .cf domain or using cloudflare as a registrar?
You can run a whois on the domain to get the actual transfer staus
now that i complain it updated
clientTransferProhibited will be the tag for a locked domain iirc
:tinfoilhat: i think they watch us
i love how so many issues are fixed by simply waiting
it also says to wait
yup
but i dont want to
Yea, the DNS system was made for a different era and isn't nearly as timely as it could be in 2023.
if stuff doesnt happen in what i consider t be reasonable, i do get kinda nervous
maybe you want to learn, to relax
or else break its legs
Generally the main nameservers for a domain are set at the registrar, if those change on transfer (they probably will) you'll want to point them back to cloudflare or set up the zone on your new nameserver
the money saved will best be spent on more temp sensors 😄
Made some shelves for my filament
there is raccoon filament???
"some folks" would like to make it a thing: #the-water-cooler message
or maybe the white/clear/black is already "deconstructed raccoon"
in that case we must refer to it as "raccoon assembler" instead of "3d printer"
dunno if this is the correct place to ask, but is there a way I can request image permissions?
You can use an image upload platform
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
ty much
Would have to be a strong shelf
Stupid gravity well
Zelda BOTW on the steamdeck 😅
the way its meant to be played
or something
Yes, very legit
how much magic sparkles did it require to get it working
It was surprisingly easy
Somebody made an app called emudeck for the steamdeck, that sets up all the popular open source emulators
Then all you have to do is install the bios files (one time thing, just download and extract into the right folder) and then download the games you want to play
Easy
sounds like it works alongside steamos
Yeah, once it's installed it's an app (emustation) you launch like a normal game
👀 guess i have some sunday plans then
Only thing is, there are not many guides on how to download/install bios files and game roms
Because it's not legal obviously

Emudeck even has a function to make the gyroscope available to every game 😂
Playing mario kart like you have a steering wheel
wasnt that even a wii feature at some point
Yep
I loved the wii
Glad I can play those games on a handheld now
Honestly the steamdeck is such an amazing device, especially if you like tinkering with technology. Hardware wise or software wise
We used to play 4 player Wii tennis on the big-ass rear projection screen at work. Some of those sports games were actually pretty fun
back in the good days where kart maps werent behind a paid dlc relasing over 3 years
Wii had some great games
It's legal if you pull your own bios, but Nintendo doesn't like it for obvious reasons
Man I love my steam deck with emudeck
Make sure to update to the 3.5 beta for the SMT (hyper threading) fixes
Makes GameCube games smooth
I got the Dbrand killswitch case for my deck and I love it
I'd suggest scrubbing your passwords from the config before using such a tool then adding them back in later
Actually that looks like it's probably not good from the comments
It's toxic know-it-all twats like these that make me glad I don't use Reddit anymore: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/17ipb5u/x/k6woy6s/
There's exactly no need for that conversation to have happened
@forest edge your coyotes require retraining
Bunch of scardey-coyotes
that one is old and too tired to deal with that drama
Poor thing

Taco...Sunday?
Suport Chatbots are cancer
The level of support to provide is frustrating. In my experience most people who contact support are just being lazy and wanting someone do things for them that they should be doing themselves, so the vast majority of money spent on support is a waste, but then if there's no support the ocassional person who actually needs it is screwed.
I get using chatbots to try to weed out the lazy people
On the flipside screw dealing with that as a customer.
stupid people... ts ts ts
unfortunately some things cant be done without some kind of support
and some people cant do anything without support
If people need that constant level of support then they need to be paying more for it, imo.
I don't want some demanding incompetent person's support charges rolled into the price I pay for things
Support is expensive
And having it be free everywhere has led to people being dependent and lazy
Legitimate support requests are fine, but seriously like 80%+ of the contacts I took in support were just people being lazy
depends how you look at it. I work at a company which has a reputation for providing very good support. A lot of focus is put on high net promotor scores. The logic is good support means higher scores means more customers
The route we took was that for certain tasks we'll provide the customer all the info on how to do it but not actually do it for them to try to avoid that ever being an option to them
Some of our cheaper plans are less than $10/mo and we'd have people on those plans calling in 5 times a day asking us for help with tools we didn't even sell or support, or to restore backups and reset database permissions and whatnot. We also had an annoying number of people try to use us as recurring free therapy to whine about their lives to.
Having to tell a customer that we're going to drop him if he doesn't quit calling us whining about his girlfriend's dislike of his financial situation is an annoying conversation to have
I guess that correlates with availability of (mental) health care lol. I am in EUW after all
Ok
So funny story
I have a new mmwav sensor/esp32 and before i deploy a new sensor or new brand I sort of leave in a "test" mode to make sure it's working correctly for a couple of days
and for the life of me, i could not figure out how or why the sensor was detecting "presence" when I know the room is absolutely empty
my home office is directly above my garage, and as it turns out when the garage door opens/closes it's setting off the sensor because it's so sensistive. The little bit of vibrations in the walls.
it's probably not the vibrations in the walls (too low freq, too small amplitude) but moving of the garage door itself. It uses radio waves, and those can pass through walls (although mmwave cant move very far)
and so they reflect back to receiver through the wall
very 'smart' mmwave receivers use some kind of object detection AI to figure out if the reflected object was a human or something else
especially in automotive
It was cheap and I'm just using it for basic light automation
yep
screek from ebay
looks like it'll do the job i want it to do
which is keep the lights on when people are in the room
lol
i use motion sensors to actuall flip them on so the false positives wont be an issue
i haven't toyed with the sensitivity settings yet either
the one that's in the google hub can detect your heartrate through your blanket hehe
wot
and breathing rate
allegeldy this thing can detect breathing/falls
and whether you're sleeping or not
but i haven't dove deep into it
for $25 though I'm impressed
hate that it has to use wifi though
and I know there are zigbee ones from aqara but I view zigbee as almost as bad as wifi
i highly prefer zwave these days
2.4ghz super crowded by me
when you first set up zigbee you need to check which channel has the least amount of wifi interference
that solved all my connectivity issues
after that it's golden
I know how that works
Trust me, there is no clean spectrum here
not in the 2.4gh band
even 5ghz is crowded
my cheap mmwave sometimes detects me moving in my bed which is practically a different room. its only seeing reflections through the door to the bedroom on the adjacent wall
had to dial it way down to -x meters
i compared the timestamps from HA to my security camera feed and it's definitely picking up the door
but likely to be a non issue because its not going up in that room anyway
you don't need clean spectrum. Just 'sufficiently noise free' spectrum
There isn't any.
Lol
Part of that is my own doing too. I mean zigbee still works but I prefer not to add to the problem
zwave is just better/more reliable
I've probably got around 200 of my own devices eating 2.4ghz
meh, I doubt it's so bad it cant work at all
zwave is so expensive
not worth it IMO
a little more expensive, sure, but it works better and i have to replace it less often
I just had to replace 2 more zigbee outlets because they crapped out
for $5 more i get zwave 800 ones with future LR, faster response times, and it's just a higher quality product
I doubt that had anything to do with it being zigbee
crappy products are crappy products
zigbee is very cheap to implement as a manufacturer, while zwave is very expensive to build for
thats why there is such a large difference in price for common devices
Yeah because they hold zwave to a minimum standard to get the tag lol
that and the chip monopoly
but it also means many chinese manufacturers (tuya...) produce only zigbee
which tends to be crap
also a lot of the issues I suspect were from the sonoff adapter. I switched over to the skyconnect and it got a lot better
they go through more ore less the same testing
because my hue bulbs all work really well 99% of the time
im also fairly impressed though with the innoveli zwave color bulbs
going to pick up a couple more of those for outdoors to serve as outdoor "antenna"
they've been super reliable
Plus I love that with HA I can use any kind of wallmote to control anything lol. Like in my main office I just used a spare lutron pico and tied it to my innoveli bulbs hahahah
https://www.amazon.com/Z-Wave-Remote-Switch-Controller-Button/dp/B09BQKD5FQ/ these little things are great too
MR40Z Z-Wave remote switches are the most natural way to control a smart home. And remote controls are the most natural way to move that control around your home. This 4 button edition of from Minoston is a 2-in-1 wall switch and remote control for Z-Wave home automation. Powered by CR2030 batter...
The frequency Z-Wave is using has the advantage of going through basically everything.
Our house is particularly horrible for RF, because the walls are solid timber (no cavity, just 44mm of solid pine), 5GHz signal is basically unusable after 2 walls, and 2.4GHz almost goes through 3 (and that's with my Ruckus APs, the Ubiquiti ones didn't do nearly that well).
I use a lot of LoRa stuff (which like Z-Wave is 900MHz). The gateway is mounted under the house, and I have stuff in my detached garage (about 40m from the house and quite a way uphill) which has to go through 1) floor 2) outside wall of the house 3) concrete retaining wall 4) our neighbour's entire house 5) another concrete retaining wall 6) outside wall of garage 7) floor of the garage. Still works perfectly.
I was wondering about how well Zigbee is going to cope with that. Seen people reporting signal issues going through one plasterboard cavity wall, not sure how much fun it's going to be
Zigbee uses repeaters
It's a mesh protocol
So as long as you have enough bulbs or switches or whatever is close enough there's no problem
Well that is the thing; might require outfitting a lot of rooms all at once to get enough nodes in the mesh
Just the ones that need coverage. One bulb is enough
If you go zigbee you want everything zigbee
So no wifi or zwave
don't put "smart" things on 802.11 just in general
dumb idea
they might go to the internet directly 🤢
not sure if 802.3 is better though
Like which protocols?
a, b, g, N, ac, ax...
You know, 802.11
Zigbee is (similar to? I think) 802.15
I guess zwave doesn't have IEEE standards 🤔
I mean, anything besides wifi
😕 I'm not sure what you are saying
You say 802.11, that's just WiFi right?
technically, since WiFi is a trademark
But most non-deeply techy people I know use wifi for stuff like zigbee as well, so I like using the IEEE standards family as it ensures some familiarity with the pedantry
Just block them at the firewall
Simple
yea, my main issue is the shitty wifi AP that doesn't do VLANs 😦
Not if you properly isolate it
In your situation just go zwave. It's also a mesh and the penetration is far superior.
although to be fair, and full disclosure, I run 2 zwave and 2 zigbee networks
Anyone know if any of the Ethernet Z-Wave options are good?
https://shop.homeseer.com/collections/z-wave-zigbee-interfaces/products/z-net-g3-remote-z-wave-interface?variant=42675411648687
This claims HA support
Z-NET is a network-connected Z-Wave controller that's designed to send & receive Z-Wave commands from compatible smart home software & hubs. Z-NET is the idea solution for improved performance in large homes or properties with outbuildings (like pool houses or barns)! Works with all HomeSeer systems.
Apparent gain is my server rack is a solid steel box, putting USB-attached RF equipment inside is basically a non-starter
