I wonder if there's a way to look up how long I've had someone blocked in discord... Makes this channel more fun to see half a dicussion and still be able to know someone is being ridiculous

prisma briar
#

You're legit insane.

forest edge
#

nah just had to listen to the whole workings of it over the past year and half lol

prisma briar
#

Did someone play basketball with you as a baby?

forest edge
#

thus why i stared with geofencing in the us is no joke

prisma briar
#

And I started explaining some of the fundamentals of how it works and you plugged your ears and decided you were an expert. You're a driveling moron.

forest edge
#

I've heard some of those means of peoiple trying to get around it too

#

and how they combat that

prisma briar
#

That's cool, bro.

forest edge
#

sorry, but like i said. good luck

prisma briar
#

I'm friends with a mechanic so I must know how every facet of an ICE works

forest edge
#

wut

glacial knot
#

Wouldn't be able to design one though D:

prisma briar
prisma briar
forest edge
#

yea, if you don't like hearing disagreement you should block me lol

glacial knot
#

I did unblock him for a while as well. Then he started insisting on obvious falsehoods and a mix of selective pedantry, so I decided it's not worth the energy to read messages 🤷

forest edge
#

sensitive people and me do not get along

prisma briar
# forest edge yea, if you don't like hearing disagreement you should block me lol

Nah, I welcome a disagreement, but you have nothing to contribute. You don't have a disagreement, you're just repeating yourself and whining because I didn't buy into your absurd claim of expertise. Your contribution to the conversation is akin to a 12 year old on Xbox Live telling his friends his dad works for Microsoft so he's basically an engineer.

You're far far worse than a disagreement, you're an active waste of time.

forest edge
#

you made a bold statement including everything, i disagreed

prisma briar
#

When you disagree you need to provide some substance as to why your disagreement is valid, else you're just being an annoying twat.

#

"I know a guy" isn't a meaningful contribution.

#

Then you just started stringing together random words like it meant anything.

forest edge
#

as you stated I don't do that type of work. while I listened to it in detail I didn't absorb every detail cause I don't care enough about it to try and spoof my location for every or any service i use. all i can tell you is your wrong in regards to the "any service" statement

prisma briar
#

Something is wrong with you.

#

There's a disconnect somewhere in your head.

forest edge
#

my friend did the legwork in the begining of his job, he was that dude who had to drive across multiple states to get the geofencing accurate, as well as verify data collected by other paid companies that do that type of work

prisma briar
#

"My dad works for Xbox, guys!"

forest edge
#

nice argument

#

you just don't like to hear that you are wrong

prisma briar
#

Says the guy whose entire argument is "you're wrong but I don't actually know anything so I can't articulate any reasons why"

forest edge
#

admit it

#

and to that i say good luck

#

not trolling, not trying to be a dick

#

just saying that whole geofencing business in the US is big money and when laws got involved it got even more complex

prisma briar
#

It's amazing that you're legitimately stupid enough you think you've made a compelling point at any point in this argument.

forest edge
#

read your responses

#

who's being the dick?

prisma briar
#

You.

forest edge
#

you are literally acting like an animal backed into a corner and insults is all you have left to throw

prisma briar
#

Well you just ignored me when I explained how it worked

#

The only thing that seems to be getting through to you is calling you a moron

forest edge
#

your little side project is not been our discussion

#

as i said, who cares about google

#

sure, in your situation spoofing location data to google is possible.. hey way to go

prisma briar
#

Exactly, you didn't read or pay any attention to what I was saying

forest edge
#

I only touched on some other stupid statement you made

#

then don't throw around words like "any"

prisma briar
#

I explained how spoofing is detected and you just ignored me because it didn't fit your delusional pre-defined world view that you have no interest in changing.

#

You didn't pay any attention to anything except the insults.

#

Any is the right word there.

forest edge
#

you said any service

#

your words

#

then you made then mistake saying ALL geofencing is done by bugging cell phones

#

wrong again

prisma briar
#

You missed the first part of what I was saying, once I realized what you were trying to discuss I tried discussing that and you ignored me, then you ignored me when I pointed out how much you've been ignoring what I've been saying.

#

Lol, now your genius plan is to try to move the goalposts.

forest edge
#

i am answering your question

prisma briar
#

LPT: GPS can be spoofed with a simple transmitter.

forest edge
#

make up your mind

glacial knot
#

more like, goal suggestions 🕺

prisma briar
forest edge
#

yes, I disagree to statement i know tend to be false. that is the way I act

#

sorry

prisma briar
#

The problem is how far your head is up your ass

forest edge
#

here we go again

prisma briar
#

You're so sure you're right you're completely detached from reality and unwilling to listen to others.

forest edge
#

how can i not feel right about the points I touched on? you act like i am talking about your side project

#

just drop it

#

for everyone's sake

#

put me on block.. please

prisma briar
#

how can i not feel right about the points I touched on?

A sane person would probably have read what the person they're talking to wrote and realized they're wrong

forest edge
#

the points i touched on

prisma briar
#

Instead of whining that their friend knows a lot so they're an expert and anyone who says otherwise is wrong

forest edge
#

what part of that is hard to understand?

prisma briar
#

Nothing you have said, not a single thing, has been correct.

forest edge
#

I already told you that you might be right on whatever google thing you were going on about

prisma briar
#

You have been wrong on every single point you have proposed.

#

No, even with your bullshit claiming that devices can be perfectly geofenced, that's wrong.

forest edge
#

like trying to argue with a doctor about your medical condition

prisma briar
#

LOL, so now you've got a relevant doctorate?

forest edge
#

lol insults don't bother me.. everyone who can't handle opposition results to that

#

everyone

prisma briar
#

Yea, so do people who are just frustrated by someone being a moron.

forest edge
#

just means you are thin skinned

#

in this day and age, that seems to be the majority

#

i'm older than that lol

prisma briar
forest edge
#

my shitty behavior while you dish the insults? love that correlation

prisma briar
glacial knot
#

is that the equivalent of a slappable face?

forest edge
#

ongy there use to tell people in this channel to go kill themselves when they disagreed with what he was saying

#

Netham45 the insulter

#

you guys are classic

prisma briar
#

I don't think you should do that, but I do think you should go spend some time re-evaluating how you determine rather you know something or not.

#

Because you're way too confident about things you know fuck-all about

forest edge
#

your wrong on the any

prisma briar
#

And it's leading you to be close-minded and ignore input

forest edge
#

every day of the week

#

that will always be the case

prisma briar
#

you're*

forest edge
#

always

prisma briar
#

Kk, glad you think so

forest edge
#

just accept it

#

and move on

#

know so

prisma briar
#

That's called a delusion

forest edge
#

it's called hearing how it works

prisma briar
#

Yea, your entire point all along has been, "I heard this, I can't back it up or explain or substantiate it but I heard it! Take my word, guys, I heard it!" and you still somehow don't realize why I think you're an ass.

forest edge
#

well some of it is sensitive data

prisma briar
#

Fuck off

forest edge
#

but yea i also don't recall every single detail as i already stated

#

cause like i also said, it dosen't impact or bother me

prisma briar
#

Yea, so you're worthless in this conversation. You have nothing meaningful to contribute. So shut up.

forest edge
#

meaningful to tell you that you are wrong lol

#

Good Luck.. there lets leave it at that

prisma briar
#

Okay? I can tell you you're a goat, doesn't make it true.

forest edge
#

Good luck

prisma briar
#

[And this was the point SonomaGTS realized he was being an idiot all along]

forest edge
#

the insulter

prisma briar
#

I'm fine with that title.

forest edge
#

i know, weak minds generally are

prisma briar
#

Maybe I can go around and start labeling people as chicken chasers

glacial knot
forest edge
#

why do you think spoofing is so invincible?

#

lets steer this back to that

prisma briar
#

I already explained that, you fucking cretin.

forest edge
#

you banked that on google no longer collecting data by trucks tho

#

is that not what you said?

prisma briar
#

.

#

There is nothing specific to Android about that concept.

forest edge
#

ok my response to that was the "location" part of that wasn't being collected by the device

#

which then you banked on google no longer using trucks

#

is that accurate?

prisma briar
#

No

#

I have no idea what you're on about

forest edge
#

which part?

#

the location collect part?

prisma briar
#

The location is collected by the device. There's no way for a device to know it's location other than self-reported information. There is no intrinsic property to location data that proves if it is accurate or not, therefore it is unverifiable and can be spoofed. Devices to spoof GPS exist, spoofing wifi location is equally easy. There are known attacks that are in the wild today you can go read about right now that attack things like this.

A device cannot be told it's location on a global scale, period.

forest edge
#

ok and here is what I was trying to relay

prisma briar
#

Without something far more expensive than a state gambling board can create, at least.

forest edge
#

this is from parts of what I remember of how I was told it gets collected (by generic companies) google amazon etc

#

when the vehicle drives through a neighborhood any device that transmit an id via wifi signal, routers, phones, computers etc etc it all gets cataloged by id, the vehicles gps location is tacked on that information.

#

would you disagree with that?

prisma briar
#

Google at least doesn't do it that way anymore

forest edge
#

ok and i take your word for that

#

but many others do

prisma briar
#

Which, I already mentioned and cited, to which you called me a conspiracy theorist

forest edge
#

well because you dove down the i am invincle path it sounded like to me

prisma briar
#

I was diving down the 'You're not listening at all and you're being an ass' path.

forest edge
#

i am trying to clearify some things up, would you like to continue?

prisma briar
#

Why are we even talking about the trucks again? They're hardly relevant to geofencing measures.

forest edge
#

? on foot/trucks is still more accurate way to geofence accuratly

#

as you said

#

using just device "bugging" is not accurate

#

remotely

#

my whole thing above was services used that involved state laws

#

they would never do that remotely

prisma briar
#

None of that makes sense

forest edge
#

as you said, it's not a reilable means

#

how?

#

where am i losing you?

prisma briar
#

foot/trucks geofencing? What?

glacial knot
#

foodtruck? don't make me hungry

prisma briar
#

If you mean they have people physically go check if machines are located correctly, okay. That's an audit, but it's not geofencing.

forest edge
#

yes they do that, especialy near state lines

#

like 5 miles on either side of the line

prisma briar
#

Sending a guy out to ping the machine to check where it is isn't geofencing...

forest edge
#

they don't "ping" the machine

#

I am not 100% sure what the equipement they use

glacial knot
#

also only works with known devices. Defeating the entire idea of geofencing...

forest edge
#

but yes they do triangulate, and even have to stop the vehicle to physically get out from time to time

#

maybe not google or amazon

#

but those geofencing companies that specialize do it

prisma briar
#

The 'how' on how this all works is what you're missing, and without it being there it seems like you're just confused on basically everything. It's just worthless assertions that you know a guy who does these things.

#

Having to have it regularly ping a beacon such as a truck isn't geofencing, if the truck isn't pinging it and is just collecting general location data then how is it relevant at all?

forest edge
#

some of this is sensitive information. he didn't tell me everything. once the goverment got involved use your imagination on how it could be done

prisma briar
#

Yup, worthless.

#

SURE GLAD WE WENT THROUGH ALL THAT AGAIN

forest edge
#

you never been told something and then told it can't be explained to you in detail?

#

not once?

#

hell i don't even know it

#

but i trust him

prisma briar
#

No shit you don't know it

#

Yea, but I don't trust you

forest edge
#

and thats where the "good luck" comes into play

#

ding ding

prisma briar
#

You're still a moron

forest edge
#

atleast i'm not wearing a tinfoil hat

prisma briar
#

once the goverment got involved use your imagination on how it could be done

#

Seems pretty tinfoil-y

forest edge
#

lol you made me think of that part of terminator dark fate movie where she thought putting her cell phone in a potato chip bag shielded the signals lol

#

and the terminator called her out on it

prisma briar
#

They should have called her out for emulating a dial-up modem over a cell phone in T3, too

glacial knot
#

blue box? 😮

#

I feel like the idiot is refering to 3 letter agencies hunting your butt when you circumvent the easily circumventable measures of geofencing
And never realizes that that's not geofencing anymore, but 3 letter agencies sending people out to whoop butts

prisma briar
#

I think the only reliable geofencing measures would be something like a challenge + response with a latency attached, but the infrastructure to have that reliable of a network on a state level would be absurdly expensive.

#

GPS signals could be verified to be recent/rule out playback attacks if they were signed but civilian GPS isn't

forest edge
#

there is like over 30 companies that specialize in geofencing in the US (look it up) and they all use "proprietary" hardware/software and methods of doing it

#

can't remember the name of the company his company uses

#

but he has had to audit their work several times

prisma briar
#

Again, systems like that are largely reactionary -- a new attack or exploit gets discovered and is addressed. Basically everything can be addressed to one extent or another with enough money but the costs go up really fast with some of the more obtuse attacks. At some point just sending people out to regularly/randomly audit the machines is cheaper.

#

But that's not geofencing

glacial knot
forest edge
#

I don't get how verifying location is not geofencing

glacial knot
#

and even those can be widened by magnitutes

prisma briar
#

challenge+response with latency is arguably proximity detection too

#

A geofence is a virtual perimeter for a real-world geographic area.

Sending an auditor out isn't that.

forest edge
#

that dosen't make sense

glacial knot
#

The keyless access (passive fob detection) works exactly that way
And they are always playing cat and mouse with usability and relay possibilities around their latencies

#

Every couple years (probably closer to months) something manages to reduce the buffer and transfer time for transfer
So we get ever so closer to actual ME-wave traveling speed (C in air) to intended distance without safety margins

prisma briar
#

I've been considering disconnecting all of my keyfobs/garage door openers and building my own remote control devices to use wifi instead with some esp32's. I already have my garage door hooked up to HA, I'd just need to make some wifi garage door openers for it.

#

Car would take more planning

#

I saw there are IoT-targeted SIM cards for like $5/mo+$0.01/MB, I could make something with that to put in my car and link it to HA.

#

Could also put a GPS on it to track my car

#

Things like that flipper zero that LTT covered is really easy to build/get ahold of and can open most garage doors really quickly.

forest edge
#

dosen't the range for that to "clone" the signal have to be somewhat close?

#

how do you not notice the dude sitting infront of your house looking at you waiting for you to click the button?

prisma briar
#

Most garage doors are susceptible to a rolling buffer attack that makes brute forcing them trivial

glacial knot
#

I wonder if garage openers have actually upgraded to something sophisticated or still just send a rolling cypher code o.0

#

I assume the latter. If it's even rolling

prisma briar
#

It could also be done by putting a magnetic device on the bottom of a car that relays to a remote control to capture the signal.

glacial knot
#

The IoT sims are cheap if you intend to equip multiple devices
From what I've see they are mostly for vendors, not for makers

forest edge
#

that is tin foil

glacial knot
#

I should get a flipper 0 and use that to open the garage door here.

prisma briar
#

When I moved in the previous owner left a smashed up garage door opener here, I soldered the board in it to an esp8266 with esphome and put it in my garage.

forest edge
#

just put an old fashioned manual lock on the door

#

most garage door openers won't try and power through a blockage

prisma briar
#

I don't want a manual lock on the door

#

I've got a door sensor on it and can remote control the opener. It'd be trivial to change that esp to hit a relay to press the garage door button, I did that in a previous garage with an RPi. If I did that I could just remove all the pairings from the opener.

#

I had a detached garage at an apartment around 2012, I put a wifi ap in there connected to an RPi running a webserver I could connect to to open the garage from my cell phone.

forest edge
#

never any lengthy statistics done on crimes where tech is actually used but I am willing to bet it's pretty small

prisma briar
#

I don't think people with the know-how to make/use devices like that are worried about stealing random cars.

#

But the devices are getting easier/more available and there's not really any laws regulating them

forest edge
#

didn't that same LTT video you mentioned on the flipper 0 also mention the devices being siezed and country bans being implemented?

prisma briar
#

I think like a crate was seized headed to the US and they still never heard an official reason for it

#

Looks like Brazil is seizing them too

glacial knot
#

someone that knows that they are easy to abuse but doesn't have the legal footing to actually hold them 🤷

prisma briar
#

A big problem with them is they're just such a simple design. It's hard to ban things that can be made from e-waste.

#

Yea, maybe ban mass production so every random edgy teenager can't open any door, but the concept of them is basically impossible to ban.

forest edge
#

as you stated, anyone who actually knows how to use that stuff, wouldn't be using it to steal to begin with. currently the only criminals you should be proofing against is the ones who think they can spoof anything, er i mean the one's who use basic tools and method for brute entry

#

cameras are still a very good deterrence even if they don't seem to mean jack shit in retail stores anymore

prisma briar

#

The problem with cameras is paying people to watch them is expensive

forest edge
#

lulz

#

paying people to watch them?

the existence is the deterrence

#

but you could use HA to get alerts on your phone in that regard

#

i love my setup

#

i watch 3 properties 24/7

prisma briar
#

Yea, most retail stores like you initially mentioned when you brought up cameras aren't going to be able to watch all cameras 24/7.

forest edge
#

well they don't watch them

#

they just use them for playback

prisma briar
#

Yea, if they're not watched and people know that they're not a deterrence.

forest edge

people don't know that though

#

BUT if you are running out of the store and someone sees you and is like, did they take something? they might go back and watch the last hour or 2

yes I worked retail as well when i was younger

prisma briar

Yea but that's easily solved by just not being blatantly conspicuous

forest edge

they don't really care about a 20 buck item to begin with

#

it took those walmarts on the west coast to be robbed blind multiple times before they were losing too much to remain open

@prisma briarFriend came on and I asked for some clarification. In terms of what you were talking about. Google doesn't do geofencing so as I said you were probably right. However on my discussion about geofencing, companies don't care what your device transmits. They compare whatever device seen in the area along with the devices used for geofencing own gps and that's the location that gets cataloged. applications that require geofencing simply will refuse access if location spoofing is detected. Apparently that's where the money is between companies etc.

forest edge
#

apparently there is a whole bunch more shit they also utilize to verify location for geofenced restricted applications

But nowdays, you have to file for a lot more paperwork before even getting started, pay a lot of money up front to start a company and once you have it, you need to pay people to process all the useless paperwork.

forest edge
#

ah well here in the US i don't think there is any additional loops then there ever has been, at least nothing that prevents businesses cause I see new small stuff all the time

#

but what I see is always way over priced and quality dosen't match the tag or it's just something stupid

finite atlas
#

Also, ironically, when you run your own company, you earn less money. (in germany)

#

Making starting a new company instead of just applying for a job in another one very unappealing

forest edge
#

well success has always determined profit

#

unless you are saying there is some kind of law that caps owners pay

finite atlas
#

no, but you have to pay a lot higher mandatory insurance fee's

#

from your own salary, after taxes
instead of lower fees before taxes when you are a employee

forest edge
#

so no one is creating a new popsocket business in germany. but more profitable type of ventures should survive. which still kind of aligns with what I was saying.. no new original thought cause no one can come up with something that everyone wants that dosen't already have

finite atlas
#

so i've obviously just heard and dont know any people personally, that just avoid that kind of bs and do black labour or what ever you call that on the other side of the lake

forest edge
#

black labor? you mean sell from the trunk of a car?

#

like produce

finite atlas
#

basically, yes

forest edge
#

here that is actually legal to a degree

#

there is a cap of how much you can make in a year and as long as you stay below that then you are pretty golden

finite atlas
#

here its to a tiny degree aswell, but not on the scale the people i've just heard from do

forest edge
#

tons of people do small things, sell things on the side like etsy/ebay etc

finite atlas
#

but they cant grow it much bigger or it gets too obvious

finite atlas
forest edge
#

yea i am not sure what it is here, but i'm sure it fluctuates by state

finite atlas
#

f u n

finite atlas
forest edge
#

heh

#

I will say one thing i have been seeing more and more of is people favoring and learning how to work on older cars. that indicates newer stuff sucks but still, more diy is always nice to see

finite atlas
#

modern cars are a hell to repair

forest edge
#

like quality has dropped to the point people no longer want to deal with it lol

finite atlas
# forest edge like quality has dropped to the point people no longer want to deal with it lol

Stuff got so over regulated with cars.
Cars build in 2022 and after, must have these additional features:

  • automatic emergency brakes (ok, i can see that point)
  • automatic emergency steering (why must that be mandatory?)
  • automatic speed assistant, scanning for speed limit signs and warns you when you go too fast (why must that be mandatory?)
  • emergency brake lights (ok, i can see that point)
  • car crash data logger / black box (why??)
  • tiredness/sleep detection system (????)
  • Camara for driving in reverse (??????)
  • Tire pressure control system, since 2014
  • a interface, to implement a system, to stop the driver from starting and moving the car, but no hardware yet
#

Why is such crap mandatory nowdays?

forest edge
#

how does automatic emergency brakes work?

#

assume that's to prevent roll away.. but how does that work?

finite atlas
#

It brakes, when an obstacle is too close

forest edge
#

oh oh

#

collision braking

finite atlas
#

like a car doing a emergency brake directly in front of you

#

yeah

forest edge
#

i gotcha

#

just about everything you listed is standard on newer cars here too. not sure if it's required or not but they have it

finite atlas
#

and how much do such cars cost nowdays

forest edge
#

one thing i hate that is mandatory is the auto engine off at stop lights etc, whatever that feature is called

finite atlas
#

its to save fuel and yes it does save fuel

#

why does it bother you?

forest edge
#

I get what it does, but i hate it

#

well they "claim" the starter is made for the sheer amount of extra work it will be put through but I call bs on that. another is I just hate it.. it's too weird

finite atlas
#

my brothers car has that feature, the starter has made 0 issues so far, even at -20°C

forest edge
#

starting engines is always more damaging to components than letting it idle

finite atlas
#

has any component died due to it yet?

forest edge
#

our forester has it and we had no issues so far, but just the mechanical aspect of it contradicts it being a smart idea

#

I get the emissions and fuel saving etc etc

#

but as i said, starting engines is the most damaging part of the cycle

#

time will tell if her starter lasts

finite atlas
#

and what will get damaged?

forest edge
#

they "claim" they are beefed for it

#

engines are a mechanical machinery, it's just common sense that initial start with extra vibrations, the start of metal on metal movement, the heat fluctuations it's the same for anything.

#

it's why stuff dies over time as is

finite atlas
#

i'd like to claim, that letting the engine idle for 20 seconds is more harmfull, that starting the engine in <1 second

forest edge
#

harmful combined for the environment.. sure

finite atlas
#

but i got no data to back it up, its just what my mind does see as obvious

finite atlas
forest edge
#

no idea.. the "beefier" starter probably costs an arm and leg. not checked in on that

#

not to mention, not sure that is something i can replace here and if not then you got labor charges added lol

#

i think that feature has been out for a few years before we bought her 2019 so hopefully it works out

finite atlas
#

checked for my brothers car, the starter costs <90€ on ebay

forest edge
#

I always turn that off tho, and that's another thing.. they are removing the ability to manually disable that feature which blows

finite atlas
#

:/

#

that really blows

static schooner
#

I hacked it on my Audi to change the threshold that it uses to decide whether it needs to keep the engine running

#

But that stopped working on newer models

finite atlas
#

:/

#

What kind of tresholds did you change?

static schooner
#

It used to be nice that I could turn off the ventilation system to get it to turn off the engine while waiting for gas at Costco, but now it just stays on all the time for some reason

#

I don't recall exactly what it related to, but I think it was done around the HVAC

#

Basically whether it could keep everything running on the battery

forest edge
#

yea the forester does that, prevents the engine from turning off if the temps inside the cabin are not what the hvac is set to

static schooner
#

There's some secret formula they use

forest edge
#

to help keep you from burning up or freezing at the light lol

static schooner
#

My engine hasn't turned itself off in several years. Not sure what changed

#

There's a dashboard icon that shows up when it wants to, but decided not to

forest edge
#

welcome to modern electronics

#

which is another thing i dislike about newer cars.. everything is freaking eletronic.. even the parking brake.. like really? you took a manual cable driven thing and added a servo to control the mechanical part lol

static schooner
#

I like that mine auto engages every time I park and auto releases when I tap the gas

#

Great feature

forest edge
#

i don't think ours auto engages but it will auto disenge

finite atlas
#

you all will hate my decision, but this is what i see as the ideal car for me:

  • full aluminium chassis
  • very low air resistance and drag
  • build 2000-2006 ish

cheap to run, 4 seats and when you need to haul a few things, you can lay the back two seats down for extra space

static schooner
#

I had to hack that too

forest edge
finite atlas
#

:D

#

it looks goofy

#

but there is a 1.2L turbo diesel engine version, that gets real world 3.5L/100km (67 mpg)

forest edge
#

is germany not going all gun ho on electric vehicles like everywhere else?

finite atlas
#

it kinda is

#

but most people go for electric SUV's :|

#

and then use it to drive alone to work

forest edge
#

i am all on board for a electric truck but i am dead sure going to let others be the guinea pigs for this first decade

finite atlas
#

if you drive long distances or need to haul heavy things, i dont think electric is a great choice there for more than a decade from now

forest edge
#

lol yea, friend of mine works with someone who bought one of the newer ford electric trucks and went to haul his boat to the lake and only got about 60 miles off a single charge

finite atlas
#

oh i wonder why

forest edge
#

screw that, hopefully his truck was just fubared but still

An old colleague drives one of those
There's some hidde cost wrt. magnesium wheels, but otherwise it's apparently a great car

clear ferry
#

Afaik the magnesium wheels are optional, not required

glacial knot
#

yea, they aren't required. But apparently noticeable in fuel consumption

clear ferry
#

Would be quite a few kg difference

#

Can't imagine it being more than 1%

#

In fuel consumption difference that is

finite atlas
clear ferry
#

Imo they have become cramped since the mid 00s anyway

My 08 Audi A6, a pretty big car, had to remove the air filter box assembly to replace bulbs on one side, and the brake fluid reservoir on the other side

#

And it was still a nightmare

My grandparents car is so empty in the front, i could stand in there with both my legs

That sounds like my 77 volvo

#

Fun fact, it took the local Audi workshop longer to replace bulbs than me, I didn't bother doing it more than once,

finite atlas

all modern vw group cars are that terrible

clear ferry
#

Says something about how shitty the front design is

finite atlas
#

its also bothering me, that it feels like 50% of modern cars is plastics

clear ferry
#

Sure feels like it

#

The xc90 engine room is ridiculously small

#

I'm very impressed with that 2.0 though, 0-100 in 5.4s in a 7 seater SUV is pretty bonkers

Supercharged and turbocharged

200HP ?

most of what makes it small is volvo being tanks though

a good 20cm of armor on the front o.0 (I know, crumple zones)

finite atlas

you gotta push the stuck russians tanks to the side somehow without damaging the car

I thought Mercedes goal of 2027 was bad already

orchid rose
#

The energy crisis should be mostly behind us at this point. Electricity futures including 24% tax for the next 24 months trade at an average of around 0.095€/kWh + transport. We shouldn't see anything like what happened in 2021 or 2022

orchid rose
# clear ferry More like that is ridicilously slow

If you want to be depressed you should look into the numbers for the rest of the world. It's only really Europe that is pushing for Electric vehicles. Most others will be using combustion engines for the foreseeable future

#

US has like 1% market share for fully electric

clear ferry
#

5.6 in 2022 according to google

glacial knot

Which was foreseeable
There's only a couple few markets that can invest and switch entire infrastructure
And at least two (NA/Middle east) don't want to because the profit from oil

he's a very good cisco engineer though

but that isn't a redeeming quality

SUVs are fine, if they are large enough to have useful purpose

#

My old tiguan was just a tall Golf

#

pretty useless

#

the XC90 is bae

orchid rose
#

What's the purpose?

clear ferry
#

Kids, family space

#

the XC90 lets me haul either 3 rear facing seats and 2 adults + strollers + more luggage

orchid rose
#

wouldn't you have the same space in any other large car? Why is it shaped like something that's supposed to climb mountains?

clear ferry
#

or 5 kids, two adults and a fuckton of luggage

orchid rose
#

It's mostly the styling I dislike with these. If they are convenient then fine

#

station wagon > SUV

clear ferry
#

I believed station wagon was better too

#

before I got a proper suv

#

my volvo v70 was great, but with two kids it was reaching its limit

#

the v90 is a fucking piece of shit 😄

#

so the xc90 here I came

orchid rose
#

What are the advantages?

clear ferry
#

easier to lift kids in and out (no need to bend down), bigger doors (no need to twist kids), bigger boot in all axis (for luggage and stollers when that was a need) and a lot better ride comfor riding higher up, better visibility of road

#

the V90 would mean I'd have to bend to put kids in, rotate them 45 degrees and the viewing angles and visibility from the driver position is horrendous

#

also there is a difference of 120l luggage space

orchid rose
#

I see. The boot is probably more about the overall dimensions of the car than the shape? One would think a station wagon would have an advantage there

novel nest
#

I went from an estate to a “tall golf” for the reasons just stated 🙂

clear ferry
#

Fun fact, the V90 was a 1000l downgrade from my V70 because of the tilting of the rear

#

as a 2 seater that is

#

which I often do to transport bigger furniture

orchid rose
#

I'll just label both of you as soccer moms instead of admitting that I - as someone who doesn't even have a license - might be wrong

so it's only those who have to endure long periods of being stuck in california that go nuts?

why would anyone willingly put themselves through that?

What was your result after playing with the mmwave sensors?

tidal bronze

💯 I highly recommend them.

#

Took out all battery powered zigbee backup sensors and I am so happy.

glacial knot
#

what info do you get out of them? From what I've seen: occupied, and a scalar distance?

tidal bronze
#

I use them as Occupancy. Have 18 of them running.

#

The only bad thing is they get triggered by my roborocks so using boolean to ignore them at night. Other than that they are rock solid.

glacial knot
#

Now you need to integrate the roborock API better so you can selectivly ignore when they enter a room

tidal bronze
#

Now that's a thought.

#

They all run after 1 AM so I ignore any MW in those zones until 4AM

forest edge
#

plenty of homeless in califronia.. sure some would gladly replace the roborock and act as a occupancy sensor if you fed them

tidal bronze
#

I do my part, every weekend I am working 8 hours at the soup kitchen. I don't think it's right to get homeless to act as Occupancy sensors.

forest edge
#

whats not right about it? what do you think security guards do?

#

provide a chair and a number to dial.. who would bitch about that job?

tidal bronze

Welp security guards has nothing in common with homeless. You just talk about it I try to do something in my human capacity. Talk is cheap.

forest edge

offering jobs is within your capacity

tidal bronze

You have no idea about homeless. I would just lay it it to rest.

There 1700 miles between news/social media and real life.

forest edge

I mean I was just trying to joke a little. but jobs are jobs

tidal bronze

There's a whole honeless community here that want to be homeless because they don't want a carbon footprint. You talking about jobs? Lol. Lot to learn my friend. This is not Midwest

forest edge
#

don't want carbon footprint? not sure what that means. are they feeding and providing for themselves?

#

because if they are not and counting on others to help them.. tell me how that makes sense?

tidal bronze

I don't try to make sense of things. That's not my job. Help where I can and move on.

forest edge
#

well someone needs to make sense of something.. it's not exactly shrinking in numbers

tidal bronze

I am very impressed with the younger folk. 90% at the soup kitchens are young folk. Kudos to them.

forest edge

we don't have quite the numbers in homeless here as you do there. probably cause this is a republican state but like most states, there is no shortage of programs in place to help someone in need get a leg up, it's just many aren't trying imo

tidal bronze
#

I hear you. But I am not here to judge, that's not my call. I am hear to help in my capacity. What people do with thir life is their juju I am in no position to judge

forest edge

right now, because of the new generation not wanting to work many diffrent type of jobs.. like many in this server who want to work from home, leaves thousands and thousands of job opening open.. every place is suffering from lack of employees.. how is that possible?

tidal bronze

That's for them to decide. People who can make 2k a week from home ain't going to serve food. It's an era for smart ones to make money while they sleep.

I don't remember orlando being that bad but then was only there for 2 weeks lol

steel crag
#

I've been to Orlando about 50 times, Orlando is where you wanna lock your doors

forest edge
#

talking about the weather

tidal bronze
#

About 20 friends and kids met at Disney last year. 6 days I stayed in the room. It's simply torture

steel crag
#

Well I always have the AC on in Orlando

#

My old boss says Disney world is the biggest advert for safe sex in the world

tidal bronze
#

Can't believe people pay money for that shit

steel crag
#

The bubble?

#

Or torturing themselves to be around all those screamers

forest edge
steel crag
#

Kids.

#

Get it?

tidal bronze
#

Lol

forest edge
#

oh

#

disneyland there had an adults only section.. it was certianly easy to pick up girls lol

tidal bronze
#

And my dumb cousin bought a place in Tampa. Had the audacity to invite me to spend the weekend. 😃

forest edge
steel crag
#

That's weird I too have a dumb cousin in Tampa

tidal bronze
forest edge
#

sooner or later you will be driven out of california.. you may as well plan now

steel crag
#

Two sisters in Lauderdale and a niece in Daytona

#

Oh and a nephew in Miami lol

tidal bronze
#

Miami 🤮

steel crag
#

Yeah I hate Miami

forest edge
#

i couldn't do miami.. not cause of the weather but cause of the stereotype lol

steel crag
#

I literally avoid it as much I can

#

I will not fly into Miami airport

tidal bronze
#

Only place out of LA I like in the states is WY

forest edge
#

if I ever left here that community in maine where they put golf cart paths everywhere really sounds interesting to me lol

tidal bronze
#

I could live there.

steel crag
#

I've never been to LA or WY

#

Furthest west so far is Chicago for me

forest edge
steel crag
#

I've lived in Sweden above the arctic circle so I doubt it

forest edge
#

there is noway someone adjusted to living in always warm to hot weather could stand to be in a mountain range

#

thin air, cold as hell

#

insta death

tidal bronze
#

WY shit food but weather is so nice. Low humidity

umbral cliff
steel crag
#

Sonoma I grew up in the hills in England lmfao

forest edge
steel crag
#

Malvern hills are all 10,000ft+

tidal bronze
#

Which part@steel crag

steel crag
#

West Midlands, Malvern

tidal bronze
#

Love everything about UK. Specially Scotland

steel crag
#

In Worcestershire

forest edge
steel crag
#

10,000ft up is pretty thin

tidal bronze
#

Blood sausage for breakfast is where's it at

steel crag
#

Well since I gave up meat not for me since 1994

tidal bronze
#

Wow

steel crag
#

I'm an old bastard

tidal bronze
#

I just do transit in LHR for blood sausage

steel crag
#

I love Heathrow

tidal bronze
#

Me too

steel crag
#

I like to walk around there so much I nearly always miss my damn flight

tidal bronze
#

There's this hole in the wall just outside Heathrow, that servers a badass breakfast. All the airport personnel eat there. Simply badass breakfast

steel crag
#

I might know where you mean actually

#

I'm pretty sure my uncle and I stopped there the last time he picked me up

#

I love a proper fry up brekkie

#

And he does even more so

tidal bronze
#

Yep very popular amongst the staff there. Right outside and there's a line always for breakfast

steel crag
#

Unc used to be a motorcycle messenger in London

#

He knows all the good spots

forest edge
#

lines.. gross

tidal bronze
#

It's worth the immigration hassle. Just to have that sausage and black pudding

steel crag
#

Well I'm usually getting off at Heathrow

#

Dont usually transit thru the UK without stopping for a couple days or my family would kill me

tidal bronze
#

I do LHR 4 to 6 hours for that breakfast if I am heading to EU

steel crag
#

I've only done that once on the way back from Sweden

#

And I still hear about it

forest edge
#

wtf

steel crag
#

He means 4-6 hour layover

#

Not wait that long

tidal bronze
#

I will take anything in life but sorry no humidity

steel crag
#

😂🤣

forest edge
#

he said there was a line, so I thought he meant that lol

steel crag
#

The English queue up for everything mate

#

Sometimes you're on a line and have no idea why

forest edge
#

so glad i live where i live

steel crag
#

In The Bahamas if you jump a queue you might as well beat yourself up

#

🤣😂

forest edge
#

lol

tidal bronze
forest edge
#

I don't care for tourist locations

steel crag
#

The whole country isn't a tourist location tho

#

You rarely ever see any tourists where I live

#

And I'm only 3 miles out of the "city"

tidal bronze
forest edge
steel crag
#

Where. Are. The. Mushrooms. You. Heathen.

steel crag
forest edge
#

i figured they weren't cookies, but still look like burnt cookies lol

steel crag
#

And those toms are too ripe for me, gib green tomato

tidal bronze
#

I agree.

#

Green on the grill is just amazing

steel crag
#

Also gib bubble and squeak

#

I do turkey sausages 🤷🏼‍♂️

#

Proper fry up for brekkie and a ploughmans for lunch

tidal bronze
#

@steel crag after getting used to such great breakfast sausage how do you survive with the shit breakfast sausage in the US?

steel crag
#

Hit the chippy for dinner and krazie is a happy man

forest edge
#

shit breakfast sausage in us?

steel crag
steel crag
tidal bronze
forest edge
#

plastic? where do you eat?

steel crag
#

Not in the UK its not

#

Lol

forest edge
#

you comparing that to mcdonalds or something?

steel crag
#

Nah, everything I buy just about comes from the US

forest edge
#

maybe but dosen't mean you have access to everything lol

steel crag
#

With the exception of the British products I import especially

forest edge
#

that image above looks gross to me

tidal bronze
#

I buy mine from the British Grocery store here. Can't eat this US crap

steel crag
forest edge
#

looks like canned beans

#

something wrong with those eggs

steel crag
#

Its heinz baked beans

forest edge
#

wtf is wrong with the tomatos?

tidal bronze
#

Yep Heinz FTW

steel crag
forest edge
#

the only thing on that plate that looks ediable is the sasuage and meat on the left.. and the blood sasuage looks gross to me

steel crag
#

And other than being a bit too ripe for my taste nothing

steel crag
#

The beans are amazing, the eggs are just fine but the blood sausage definitely isn't for everyone

forest edge
#

no bacon.. no thank you. no maple sasuage? no thank you lol

steel crag
#

Black pudding and blood sausage are acquired tastes

forest edge
#

yea a flap of it lol

tidal bronze
#

Talking British grocery store, was there a minute ago. Best chocolate ever.

forest edge
#

and thats not bacon

#

bacon is bacon.. it may be ham, but it's not just ham

steel crag
tidal bronze
#

Ham. 🤮

steel crag
#

99 flake stuck in a cone

#

Yessssss please

#

Those are nearly $3 here and I buy em by the box

tidal bronze
#

Just saw that US Nestlé owns Cadbury now.

forest edge
#

this is why I couldn't trust quad picking the places to eat.. he would make me throw up too much

steel crag
#

Yeah

steel crag
tidal bronze
#

Oh no. Never.

steel crag
#

Americans have no idea how to make chocolate

tidal bronze
#

Nopes, sadly

#

Smarties over M&M all Day

steel crag
#

Oh hellllll yeah

forest edge
#

don't smarties cause cancer in california?

steel crag
#

Air has a warning label in California

tidal bronze
#

Yep

forest edge
#

m&m's dont

steel crag
#

If smarties cause cancer in California it's because they made those in the US

#

😂🤣

forest edge
#

just think it's ironic, to pick one over the other lol

steel crag
#

I love both, but smarties are superior in every way

forest edge
#

i didn't think smarties was chocolate? aren't they just packed sugar?

steel crag
#

They are in the UK

#

Chocolate that is

#

And they are here too

#

Then again our Coca-Cola is made with real sugar

forest edge
#

wtf two types of candies with same name

#

euro got the short end of the stick when it comes to our pop

#

been like that forever

tidal bronze
#

Smarties Vs Smarties 🤣

forest edge
#

thats messed up

#

no wonder it isn't sold here

#

the sugar packed version has been around since i was a kid

tidal bronze
#

Yep. I like them too.

steel crag
#

Those sugar rolls are called something else here, not smarties....

tidal bronze
#

But if you eat the UK smarties you will never eat M&Ms again.

steel crag
#

If you eat a UK Mars bar you'll never eat a US one

tidal bronze
#

Of course. Mars all day.

steel crag
#

Curly wurlies also

#

And not chocolate but Fruit Pastilles

#

🤤

forest edge
#

no other chocolate comes close

steel crag
#

This guy

#

Lol

tidal bronze
#

Welp for me it would be this. My all time favorite

steel crag
#

We only get the tubes

#

And I always eat them all in one go

forest edge
steel crag
#

For that I eat probiotic yogurt

tidal bronze
#

Sorry GTS you don't get these things in middle earth

steel crag
#

But fruit pastilles and vanilla ice cream!

#

Thank me later

forest edge
#

probably the same thing, they just sell it to you west coasters as if it were candies lol

tidal bronze
steel crag
steel crag
#

And if you've got a 99 flake to crumble on it....... 🤤

forest edge
#

haha there is even a term for it. Functional Candy

tidal bronze
forest edge
#

when they trick people to eat shit that's good for them when they think it's candy

steel crag
#

You mean like when I wallop electronics to make it work and they call it percussive maintenance?

forest edge
#

yea except i imagine these practices actually work

steel crag
#

Percussive maintenance is really a thing tho

forest edge
#

now i'm craving green apple

steel crag
#

Granny Smith green apple or jolly rancher green apple or blow pop green apple?

#

Let's see if you're a man of culture

tidal bronze
#

Welp gotta get to my grill. Going to have some fruit pastilles with vanilla ice cream topped with flakes after. 😋

forest edge
#

any of the three.. although I haven't seen the jolly rancher type in awhile and the blow pop is so not good for you lol

forest edge
steel crag
#

That's why the ice cream

forest edge
#

nothing like self inducing diarrhea so you can eat weird stuff lol

forest edge
#

although I have to admit, the aussie voice of the knight rider is too high pitched.. dude sounds girlish to me so I think the american version of his part at least is better lol

umbral cliff
forest edge
#

made me wonder what else was dubbed lol

umbral cliff
#

Usa always wants a local dub because apparently films without American accents aren't as popular

forest edge
#

I understand the logic of accents being hard to understand like it states in that article. i understood everything in those clips

#

but some accents can be hard to understand

#

i guess Crocodile Dundee wasn't dubbed but apparently the au version has 6 more minutes of swearing lmao

umbral cliff
#

I can barely understand some us accents lol

forest edge
#

and they have a hard time understanding me

glacial knot
#

apparently I don't unerstand k8s NetworkPolicies =.=
I have one that allows egress to an IP outside the cluster, but it doesn't work 😦
Maybe because the target IP is on one of the nodes? o.0

clear ferry
#

That isn't normal afaik

#

One of Norways largest Unions have gone on strike due to only being offered 5.2% pay increase this year, this will be interesting

glacial knot
#

🤷 I fixed the client to use the cluster internal network and the network policy makes sense now

#

I'll test around a bit with that. I suspect it's a bug in cilium? 🤔

clear ferry
#

Might be, sounds like a corner case anyway

glacial knot
#

well, I hit it with another IP
The api server exposed into the cluster 🤔 kinda weird

last cedar
#

@clear ferry your Volvo was turbo and supercharged right?

clear ferry

Got a picture of @last cedar in the pool
