Would anyone know how to get "https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0157GOEA8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"

forest edge

wire isolation?

umbral cliff
#

I wonder if ongy meant insulation

clear ferry
#

Interesting Germanic languages have the same word for insulation and isolation

#

Whereas English wanted to add another word to distinguish them

#

We use the same word for the stuff we fill our wall spaces with as the stuff that covers wires

#

And if we refer someone who is isolated it is the same word, just a verb instead of a noun

#

And can be bent

#

Isolasjon, isolasjon, isolasjon / isolert

In respective orders

funny how common sense seems to have worked it way in evolution

I'm about to get into a screaming match with Xfinity.

#

They just told me straight to my face that, even after buying my own equipment, I'm not allowed to change my DNS. They say it's controlled by the DHCP. Does that mean the issue will be fixed if I used Adguard as the DHCP?

#

If the FBI are endorsing the use of ad blockers to protect consumers, can I report Xfinity to the FBI for actively preventing me from doing so?

glacial knot
#

allowed? ๐Ÿค” or do they think you can't?

#

anyways, yes. The DHCP server usually also configures the DNS

#

though you should be able to set the DHCP it uses, even with consumer crap

midnight adder
#

I told them I no longer wish to use their DNS servers and to stop forcing them into my network and they straight up told me "That's not possible. Even after configuring your router, the DNS is actually controlled by DHCP." And some shit about how they really recommend that I don't change it, as they can't help me

#

Which I just laughed at. They never help anyway

#

But it's all very simple. I told them explicitly that I want to control my network and my equipment, and they straight up told me no.

Get your own equipment

midnight adder
#

I own my own equipment. I'm still being told to go screw myself.

scenic radish
#

What are you using? I have my own modem and router with Xfinity and don't have the issue you're describing

midnight adder
#

Here's what happened:

  1. I changed the DNS settings in my router
  2. Xfinity is still, somehow, forcing their DNS servers in my network to where some ~40% of my requests are still going through their servers
#

It's a CAX30

#

I'll try using something other than the router for DHCP I guess

scenic radish
#

I know

#

I was just trying to verify that those devices are actually seeing your router as the DNS server and not Comcast's servers

So as long as your router is forwarding DNS requests to wherever you want, Comcast has no idea nor control

Have people been trying to use ChatGPT to help write HA scripts and such yet? I know it's hit or miss, but Tom Scott's recent video about it has me wanting to try it out.

static schooner
#

Yes, hence the announcement

midnight adder
#

That's a fair rule. Have people been having anecdotal success or is it just completely unknowledgeable about HA?

finite atlas
#

This meme is a great example how its unaware of what it actually is saying

midnight adder
#

Obviously you can't just trust whatever it shits out, but Tom Scott managed to get useable Google Apps Script code out of it. I honestly don't believe chatgpt knows any more than I do, but it would keep me from having to be here as often lol

finite atlas
#

The script was wrong tho

#

and he had to manually check the code and fix it

midnight adder
#

Yes but his point was that he merely had to revise a draft as opposed to write it himself.

clear ferry
midnight adder
#

His original instructions and Google's documentation were also both wrong to begin with.

static schooner
#

Point is, you're welcome to do whatever you want for yourself. Just don't offer its solutions to others, and if you know what you're doing enough to fix the result, you're more than likely able to write it better yourself in the first place

midnight adder
#

Right, I agree that no one should be copying and pasting solutions generated by chatgpt. That's just, well, duh.

#

I disagree on your latter point. I can't write code. I can piece it together, I can adapt code to what I need, a lot of the time I can fix it when it doesn't work with my specific setup, I've even "written" simple programs by identifying pieces of code that I want in other programs and mashing them together. But starting with a blank screen? I'm useless.

static schooner
#

Ok

#

No support for the result here

Yes I gathered that from the announcement.

glacial knot
prisma briar
#

I had to fix it's code in a few places and it's logic in another, and I'm not sure it actually saved any time with the debugging included, but I did it get it to more or less write a c++ function to post json to a URL.

glacial knot
#

we have a nice assisting tech for golang. Which auto-completes common structures

#

But trying to get entire functions (which aren't essentially pre-mature boilerplate) out of a computer is a bad idea for now

prisma briar
#

Most of this looks like it's copied right from MS's docs

#

When it first wrote it, for some reason it was looping the receive without a timeout so it'd just hang. It ignored the URL and treated it as a hostname, I had to ask it to make the regex to break down the url separately. It also was trying to call '/' as a static path. It also had the mime type set as application/www-url-encoded instead of application/json, but that was because I didn't specify in my prompt.

#

So it basically entirely missed the concept of a URL, had a logic issue in the receive code, and couldn't read my mind on the type of data I was sending.

I will take sensor buttons over push buttons over touchscreens for everything I need to interact with while driving

We get 4 seasons every season ๐Ÿคฃ

#

Heated back window and mirrors and seats, use them most of the year, apart from a few months

#

Sometimes you have a misted up window, leaving it on auto doesn't clear windscreen as quick as using the max fan speed and directed there, etc

AC is on, but I do adjust temperature 5-10 times a week

#

And seat heat

#

And steering wheel heat

#

All on touch screen, i hate it

midnight adder
#

i never touch my AC setting but I would not want touch buttons on my steering wheel, I want a manual wiper+spray button, a button for the heated rear window, heated steering wheel, and seats โ€ฆ

Any suggestions for a cheap LTE wifi router that can be used in a car. Its just for the dashcam

a lot of basic stuff tesla still does not offer

they do not even offer a Headup Display in a 120kโ‚ฌ car

Because it is fookin cold in the morning?

#

And hot in the evening?

clever mortar
#

That, and at the start of a drive I like it colder, then I want it a little warmer, then i want it a little colder again

clear ferry
#

Ah, I've spotted the onion

#

!

#

I mostly keep my car at 22 all year, but if I'm stuck in traffic in winter that gets very hot inside the cabin, and if it is -35 outside i might change it to 24 for half an hour, and if it is hot in summer I'll put it to 18 for half an hour, but I have remote heating and cooling, so usually I'm fine

clever mortar
#

My default is 16... 18 if I'm feeling a bit cold during the warmer months and occasionally 20 in the depths of winter

clear ferry
#

You might need to adjust your hvac

Only because it doesn't go to 14...

22 all year o.0 I have it on 19 or 19.5 in winter

mine is also 22ยฐC all year

But I never drive with a jacket on and typically I preheat my car before I go somewhere

Where is the coordinator? Virtualservice?

umbral cliff
#

I set my cars AC to 20c all year. Works well except for the 37c+ days

glacial knot
#

Coordinator?

clear ferry
#

The ZigBee coordinator

glacial knot
#

VirtualService is the istio equivalent of ingress.
Using ingress I'd have to have the secret (TLS cert+key) in every namespace.
With the istio gateway + VS I can apply it to the gateway and not copy it around.

If/when I setup cert-manager properly, I'll probably switch to Ingress. Though potentially the current v2/alpha variant that's closer to VSs than current ingress

#

My coordinator is a TI_CC2531 which the simple device plugin finds by the /dev/serial/by-id/ path and then maps into the container as /dev/ttyACM0 when it's requested as resource

#

I know y'all love the CC2531

does someone use mac mini 8gb with pycharm or vs code? Is it enough for simple python programming?

static schooner
#

any 8GB system these days is pretty anemic, but it's enough for basic Python dev

#

many phones have more RAM than that ๐Ÿ™‚

midnight adder

I know, I have pc with 32 and laptop with 16, but I would like to use mac for simple tasks for its power efficiency

midnight adder
#

m2 base, I'd like to get it with student discount

clear ferry
#

that's probably a lot of money for something that could easily be accomplished with what you have

#

and you can get 6 cloud cores + 12GB RAM for free

#

which doesn't consume any power

#

plus an amazon ec2 instance for free

dusky plank
#

try it, that mac is very efficient with its ram

#

I didn't know you could get a m2 with 8gb though, that is the worst option

midnight adder
#

I'd like to try it while I am still eligible for that discount, the ram is the only reason which holding me back. I cannot find any examples for that usage. On youtube there are either people which have to have 123456gb ram for creating 10min youtube video or some devs which use docker instances and vms

dusky plank
#

yeah you will get into trouble with vms

#

but python works fine on macos

#

if you want to use docker there are solutions to the slow fs i/o too

clear ferry
#

if all you want to do is do is code, there are better options

#

that cost $0
