Fucking hell, cell phones need to stop with this auto-update bullshit. It asked me if I wanted to install it, I was actively using my phone so I selected 'no', it informs me it that okay, it's delayed it until the next minute then reboots to install it.

#

I wasn't even behind on updates, that update rolled out like 12 hours ago. >.>

clear ferry
#

Never had an update forced on me on Huawei / OnePlus / Samsung

prisma briar
#

It was a Samsung S21 Ultra that just did this to me

clear ferry

Interesting

#

My old A71 still asks me about upgrades to android 11

#

Still click no

#

Been nagging for a year

prisma briar
#

I'm on Android 13 now, I think my phone was on 11 when I got it

clear ferry
#

I'm currently on 13 on OnePlus, it can wait for weeks before upgrades at least

prisma briar
#

Normally I can dismiss the notification in perpetuity, but every once in a while it'll just ignore me and start installing it anyways.

#

It's stupid as hell, my options from here are to entirely disable updates unless I go in and manually re-enable/check for them or have my phone just do whatever the fuck it wants. So I can either have a phone that randomly doesn't work for 10 minutes with seemingly no control or a phone that's insecure.

Third option ... don't buy Samsung zany

prisma briar

If other cell phone mfgrs would get their shit together I wouldn't buy Samsung. There's not really anything that rivals this in regards to screen/audio/camera quality.

umbral cliff
prisma briar

It's done this to me a few times since I got this phone.

#

I select no and it does it anyways, or it never asks to begin with and just goes.

If it was a quick update I wouldn't really care but it generally takes 10-15m

#

It hit me while I was trying to order an Uber a few months ago

umbral cliff

Sounds like something is broken with your phone OS

clear ferry
#

Hmmm i just got more confused

midnight adder
#

Okay I can explain

#

Currently my FireTv Stick sends 5.1 surround to my Echo Studio wirelessly. ARC enables me to do this with all of the devices plugged into the television. My playstation 4's audio is wirelessly transmitted to the Echo Studio thanks to the FireStick in the ARC port.

#

I have a projector with only 1 HDMI port without ARC. I'm trying to figure out if buying a switch with ARC will allow that same wireless functionality. Since the firetv stick is basically acting like an ARC HDMI receiver?

#

I don't see why the projector would need ARC, I just need the devices to arc to the FireStick. If that's the case, I can spend $40 instead of $120

clear ferry
#

I have no idea really, never seen wireless arc

midnight adder
#

In a perfect world it would be regular arc and whatever Amazon does to send the audio from the FireStick to the Alexa is a separate process.

It might be, but I don't know and you know Amazon doesn't like giving people information

# knotty lily I'm actually curious, what do people use the smart features for on those? A nice...

Mine are downstairs and just sing a little song so the notifications are nice. With HA, I have the notification set to opt-in, so family members can turn them on and off. Also, just set up pop up notifications on my FireTv stick today. They also track energy usage, how many loads of detergent left in the dispenser. There's a door sensor, so the android notifications dismiss themselves when the door is opened.

prisma briar
#

I don't actually have my washer/dryer tied to HA, it wasn't possible without exposing HA to the internet for SmartThings integration and that's not worth the risk to me.

I'm just using the SmartThings app on my phone.

They're the only things I haven't tied into HA that I have

finally figured out why my 3d printer suddenly started working like shit. The whole nozzle and heating element was covered in plastic goo

glacial knot
#

I need to take apart my extruder and properly clean it at some point... 3D printing has been no fun for while because it's not working for me :/

forest edge
#

for me petg seems to be worse than pla at curling back while the nozzle is heated and the initial line it runs before the print 50/50 removes the buildup

orchid rose
#

I think it was probably residue from a failed print but I'll keep an eye out if it's actually just curling up there and builds up over time

#

But I was leveling the bed and noticed that I can't even see the brass nozzle anymore and when I opened it up the whole block was covered too

forest edge
#

the temp at which you run which filiament also adds to that. the hotter the more that flows during that whole preheat setup duration

#

if i run petg at the lower end like around 230, i don't get that curling, but I have bed adhesion issues with that with petg so i run it at 240, with pla on the lower end I don't have the adhesion problems so I have virtually no curling

#

literally watching the petg flow out while the machine waits for the nozzle to hit target temp right now lol

orchid rose
#

I've only used PLA so far. Can't wait to have that problem too...

forest edge
#

i kicked myself in my own balls. i bought the machine, set it up and jumped straight to petg

#

BUT, that rabbit hole did get my machine set up nicely (i think(

what kind of sorting madness is this?

two sorted columns interleaved?

thing was pain to put the eys in etc lol

#

just relized i did that sideway

agile jewel
#

Oh god google wallet is so useless

#

It's only got US transit options

#

Why can't I just scan my flight ticket with my camera to add it to it? So stupid

umbral cliff
#

But I've got worldwide transit options on my Google wallet, just majority are north America

agile jewel
#

Why would I need to install an airline app if you randomly fly 10 different airlines?

#

Shouldn't google wallet make those apps obsolete by letting you scan the ticket, finding the name and the reference number to retrieve the ticket information from the airline's API?

#

Idk if AirFrance has an API but they do have eTickets which can be viewed using the passanger name and reference id

umbral cliff
#

No, because the airline wants you to use the app, more data

agile jewel
umbral cliff
#

Most apps just let you enter the booking reference and last name, and then tap add to wallet

umbral cliff
agile jewel
#

Not even the Prague integrated transport

#

That's why Google should make some smart scanner that scans all the important things from the physical ticket

umbral cliff
#

Yeah but airlines don't want that

agile jewel
#

Like any reference IDs, QR codes etc

shrewd veldt
#

I'm sure if they could do that without getting legal threats from companies, they would

umbral cliff
#

The airlines want you to download their apps. Not to just have it all in one

agile jewel
#

Like, iirc, the iPhone's wallet has way wider support than google wallet

umbral cliff
#

Plus the point is you check in on an app, get it all digitally. Not get a printed boarding pass, then chuck it in a bag for your phone

umbral cliff
agile jewel
#

Portugal?

shrewd veldt
#

If you already have a physical ticket, you could just take a photo of the barcode and scan that

umbral cliff
#

Which probably comes down to why some mobile passes are limited

agile jewel
dusky plank
#

lots of apps let you put whatever qr code or barcode into your wallet

Oh

umbral cliff
#

There are no mobile public transport wallets on iOS. Only one is Myki on android for Melbourne

#

Though PT cards are dying anyway with paywave credit/ debit cards becoming the mainstream

agile jewel
#

Do you or your kids play Minecraft?

#

I used to have a PT card waaaay back. Now i just pay with my phone, as 90% of PT has cc terminals

umbral cliff
agile jewel
#

And when they don't, they have to exchange me a 10$ bill xD

#

For a 1$ ticket

#

They hate me for it

umbral cliff
agile jewel
#

Kinda on-topic off-topic. If i want to add a new service to an existing integration (custom component) is adding it to services.yaml and init.py enough?

mellow parcel
#

last time i flew they didn't even check my passes very closely

umbral cliff
mellow parcel
#

granted was at the start of the virus but yeah, they just sorta waved me unto the plane with a bad scan

umbral cliff
#

It would've had to have scanned, else your baggage may have been offloaded

mellow parcel
#

well, it was connecting flights

#

idk

umbral cliff
#

Yeah same thing. It would've scanned well enough for them. Else you are deemed not boarded and baggage should be offloaded

mellow parcel
#

your talking planes where we had to be moved about so the plane could maintain balance and had more staff then passangers

agile jewel
umbral cliff
agile jewel
#

In the eu, you have to board 2 hours before the flight

#

You get your baggage scanned

#

You have to throw away all liquids and gels

#

So no shower gels allowed

#

Just buy new ones in your destination

#

God forbid you transfer alcohol from your holiday trip

umbral cliff
agile jewel
#

Yeah. Check in

umbral cliff
#

Also you can still check in liquids over 100ml

#

Just can't carry on

agile jewel
#

Under 5 ounces

umbral cliff
#

And those rules come from the USA post 9/11 too

umbral cliff
#

Check in does not have a liquid limit

agile jewel
#

Alright

#

Oh ok

umbral cliff
#

Source: I fly a lot. Know the rules

agile jewel
#

Why can't I just have a semtex bomb in my suit case and detonate remotely?

umbral cliff
#

Carry on is 100ml, painful but is what it is
Check in is where you chuck your toiletries and alcohol

umbral cliff
agile jewel
#

Since gel limits do not apply to baggage

dusky plank
umbral cliff
#

Its just a past case where someone tried to set off a bomb using liquids that they clamped down

#

That is also changing in the near future, at least for the UK they're moving to 3D carry on baggage scanners, 1L will become the new limit

agile jewel
umbral cliff
#

I love domestic australia flying, no liquids, aerosols, or gels rules

agile jewel
#

Damn

#

Would love that

#

For domestic eu flights

umbral cliff
#

Doesn't really affect me, I prefer to check in anything large anyway lol

#

And no reason why not to, saves lugging stuff through airports

agile jewel
#

Also what's stupid

#

If you miss a flight that has a return ticket associated with it

#

They cancel your return ticket and you have to prove that you got to the destination country with other means

#

Like a train ticket

#

That's so stupid

#

Stupid AirFrance

umbral cliff
#

Yeah thats not stupid, its to stop people buying cheap fares to some random destination
