You own like half of Norway

Number plates in your drive way? Say 10 meters from your house?

clear ferry
#

10 meters is probably the furthest away yes

#

three cars normally

last cedar
#

How wide is your drive way? Do you need to cover the whole width?

#

For alpr that is

clear ferry
#

would be nice, need fisheye probably

last cedar
#

10 meters wide, like a big square?

clear ferry
#

say my driveway is... 8x18 meters or so

#

and curving

to the left

#

if you must know

That won't work

For 1, light travels only in straight linea

last cedar
#

I will do some napkin maths

#

I would put camera to the right of the garage door that is open, above it, as we are looking now

#

Gives it a slightly straighter view

last cedar
#

4mp image is 2560 pixels wide, 10 meter field of view (width) would give 256 pixels per meter, that would be enough

clear ferry
#

Think I have an 8MP poe camera here

last cedar
#

You want a fairly fast shutter speed to get a clear image, so you need some light, a 10W led floodlight would probably be perfect

clear ferry
#

in a box

last cedar
#

8mp would be perfect resolution wisw

#

4mp would work at a push too

clear ferry

my night vision is actually quite good, I can read the two first cars from my terrace up above already

last cedar
#

You could do with more light futher away ๐Ÿ™‚

clear ferry
#

Need to pull a cable out there and place it where you want it

last cedar
#

Run it externally and test first

#

You can't undrill a hole

#

I have tried

#

Reverse mode on the drill doesn't put all the wood back :/

#

Normally alpr is all about fast shutter speed and tight fov

#

By the way, do you have food waste in your bin, I am quite hungry?

clear ferry
#

LIKE I HAVE WOOD

#

I would need to get through the concrete wall of my garage

I'm just gonna put it through one of the ventilation ducts I guess

ashen parrot
ashen parrot
# glacial knot =.= the smart radiator control I bought isn't in z2m yet

was thinking of TRVs lately, they basically vary the amount of thermal agent that gets let into your radiator. I mention it because we're used to thinking valve more open means more heat, but what they really affect is hysteresis of the heat transfer. The thermal agent stays the same temperature (controlled by whatever it is that controls its temperature, be it central heating or otherwise)

#

so then the hysteresis is ultimately affected by the insulation of the room

glacial knot
#

That's how heating works here in general, yes

#

but it still lets more heat into the radiator (and room) with a further open valve
not sure what you are trying to say tbh.

glacial knot
#

is that with your ceramic coating?

clear ferry
#

Yes

ashen parrot
# glacial knot but it still lets more heat into the radiator (and room) with a further open val...

yes, ofc, but my point is that this is true because it affects the time it takes for the heat transfer to occur. That was what I was trying to say, there are 3 hystereses involved: the one from the new thermal agent let in and the old one already inside the radiator, then the exchange between the radiator and the air around it, and ultimately the exchange between the room and the outside.

Point being, there is a moment whereby no matter how much heat you let into your unit, the overall heat of the room won't increase any further and in some rooms this will be way before you reach maximum valve intake, meaning most of us just waste money on heat. This is just based on my personal testing: not saying it is your situation, seeing as I have no clue about your room insulation. But unless you figure out at what temperature that occurs, the TRV will not be as effective if set above that temperature

#

it's kind of hard to test for this because the outside temp always varies, and there is a point where it affects that drop drastically (water freezing point usually)

glacial knot
#

it's less insulation and more radiator surface to room volume iirc.

#

But also doesn't result in any cost difference the way we are set up in Germany

ashen parrot
#

east or west?

glacial knot
#

These thingies work the same everywhere
They are based on temperature difference of the radiator to room

ashen parrot
#

oh yes I know, Im not contesting that

#

I am in bucharest so the building block design is soviet, as well as it is in most former eastern block (depending on the building ofc - there are some that aren't)

#

perhaps yours isn't which is why you don't factor in the room insulation

glacial knot
#

I'm used to properly insulated houses in the area of former East Germany as well

last cedar
clear ferry
#

What is this non insulated houses

finite atlas
clear ferry
#

American trailer homes

glacial knot
#

but the relation to heating is also one step removed. Since it's more about efficiency for the whole system, and only about the radiator after an intermediate of the room temperature (or rather the delta to the heating agent)

finite atlas
#

today is the first day, i'm heating my room this year

clear ferry
#

Today is the first day I saw snow in the air

finite atlas

dusky plank
#

meanwhile I'm here

ashen parrot
#

the number is off, sure but it's just a reference in order to convey my point. (the least amount of difference between the systems confers the least amount of effort and hence is the most efficient)

last cedar
#

I need to install my new doors and insulate properly first, but I noticed now the heating curve is overkill

Durum, that meat, dough, wrap and rolled, thingamajigg.

Made by master chef Saddam himself.

they probably used it to refer to the wrap itself, and then the meaning got extended to the whole thing

night zodiac

they said I probably just need to rebuy the yeast but I'm just going to do the whole kit

#

"Hello! Thanks for contacting us. I understand you want to know how long our kits are good for. We suggest using our recipe kits within 6 months of purchase for the ingredients to be at their freshest, however a lot of people will brew them within a year and have very good results. You may just want to check the kit. Taste the grains, if they taste like stale cereal or crackers you may want to replace the kit. Also, old hops kind of smell like Parmesan cheese and the malt syrup will get darker. Most likely the yeast is expired and this should be replaced with a fresh pack. Hope that helps! Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. Cheers!"

I love the way real strong hopped beer "bites" my tongue. Pineapple has that same quality so I think I might really like that indeed

night zodiac
#

I think I will just brew this in the guest bathroom. I'm afraid to have all of this liquid near my electronic stuff, lol

ashen parrot
night zodiac
#

I think it would even fit in the closet of my bathroom

ashen parrot
#

for most fermentation that's the sweet spot

warm root
night zodiac
#

I am following a pretty set path with the instructions. I need to see what temps my bathroom likes to hold

#

will put a sensor in the closet too

warm root
ashen parrot
#

there's bacteria in your bathroom though

#

I would definitely not do it there

night zodiac
#

we don't use it

ashen parrot
#

well, does it have a shitter?

night zodiac
#

yeah but it hasn't been flushed in like a year, lol

#

other than to fill trap

ashen parrot

and a sewer drain?

#

doesn't matter, stuff is in the air. Now, depending on your ferment, it might overcome it but it will still be dank

night zodiac
#

I'm just going to set the bottle in there

#

not do the operation in there

ashen parrot
#

could work

#

kombucha is another easy thing to make

#

but it does require a scoby though (the shit that ferments your brew)

#

something easy to ferment which doesn't require a culture is sourdough

it's just flour and water mixed together lol

warm root

I want to make some cider after I make some beer but it seems like a ton of work unless I can find someone local that makes it

ashen parrot

cider is easy from what I hear

easier than beer

night zodiac
#

yeah, I have been doing a bunch of reading. I just don't want to buy shit to smash apples and don't want to use a juicer

#

so I have been looking at orchards near me

#

will have to dig deeper after the beer

#

spores seem just as easy to get, from a quick google

warm root
ashen parrot
#

the principle is the smaller the bits, the larger the surface, the more fermentation. =more alcohol

#

if you're fine with less alcohol, could just chop up the apple by hand although that is simply dreadful as an experience considering the amount of apples

ashen parrot

warm root

It should have reacted when you stepped on the wired mat as a sensor. It didn't. It blew out a puff of smoke though!

#

Yeah, would you do such a thing?

I just lick the door knob.

Put a moist sensor there.

#

I just flip the switch.

ashen parrot

I agree, it's one step too many

warm root
#

Or, even better, just have the lights turn on/off because I'm not home or whatever

ashen parrot
#

automation isn't automation if you have to consciously think about it

warm root
#

Yes, my lights turn on because my lx meter tells the system it's dark outside

#

(well, at least WHEN THE FRIGGING CHINESE STUPID SENSOR DID NOT DISCONNECT FROM THE ZIGBEE NETWORK)

#

Ok, that's not fair. It didn't disconnect for at least 2 days now

#

(No, also not fair, it used to disconnect, now it doesn't anymore because of Slaesh's great Zigbee stick)

ashen parrot
#

keeping with the door example, having two wires from each terminal touch every time the door closes

warm root
#

Yes, you can lick a lot of things and make them do things because of the lick

ashen parrot
#

(this is just for illustration purposes, would be pretty redundant not to use an actual door sensor in that case)

#

no, without the licking man

#

I was extrapolating the principle

#

the moisture is just what completes the circuit. Could complete the circuit in other ways, is what Im saying

warm root

Ah, ok. I was ready to start licking the locks. I mean. Would you lick the lock to enter my house? I THINK NOT!! SAFETY THROUGH MOISTURY.

perhaps him buying twitter is for the better general mass, less political one-sided extremists posting their oh so important opinion on the world wide web

do you rly believe that?

I mean why would anything change

Unfortunately, he turned out to be a case of "everything but the sink". Should've kept concentrating on making subpar "cars"

Strangely, I seem to make poor life choices, but don't use Twitter ๐Ÿคฃ

It might give someone a nudge or push in a direction, but I think the vast majority of the time they were already walking that way

If there is food they breed, so coming to Sweden would be pretty silly

in germany, they are only allowed if you have a large outdoor cage for them and you'd need to be approved

Soโ€ฆ with all these different time zones and all, does anyone else have weekend yet or are some stuck on Tuesday?

# last cedar We have 6 cats, I am guessing that 1 box wouldn't cope with 6 cats?

it can, I just wouldn't have that be their only litterbox. while the litter-robot does in fact handle many cats it's still safer to follow the 1 litterbox per cat rule for the sole reason that multiple cats occasionally need to do their business at the same time. wouldn't want cat #2 going on the floor next to the thing while cat #1 still inside using it etc

So, 3d printers, any hot leads on Black Friday specials, or good first printer? COntinuning from #general-archived ๐Ÿ™‚

hollow glacier
#

how big

tender jewel
#

No Idea. Will be my first 3d printer. Probably use it a lot for making jigs for woodworking, and for various HA/camera stuff.

#

Creality Ender 6 ?

hollow glacier
#

nah

#

ender 6 and ender 7 are abominations

tender jewel
#

All I was suggestd was "core xy"

hollow glacier
#

top and bottom come pre assembled you just put the two halves together

#

only real downside is it comes with an 8bit board so it's loud. new 32bit boards come with silent stepper drivers which make it quieter

#

you can learn how to use it and then upgrade the board later

#

that size is nice cuz you can print really large things. if you dont need one that big you can save quite a bit

frosty gazelle
#

^^^all of this

#

as a carpenter I'm sure you can figure out squaring this shit as you assemble ๐Ÿ˜›

Trying to understand ender-5 vs ender-5-plus vs ender-5-pro...

hollow glacier
#

5 doesnt exist, pro is smaller and worse design, 5 plus is the one you want

#

you can try the ender 3 series and get a smaller cheaper printer

#

i have two ender3v2 and two ender3pro (3v2 is the pro with a couple upgrades)

#

the newer generation are called the ender 3v2 neo

tender jewel
#

Was thinking about that. Half the price, and can learn on that, then add a bigger one later.

hollow glacier
#

or the ender 3 s1

#

or the ender 3 s1 pro

#

lol

tender jewel
#

Every time you say "or" my brain goes ๐Ÿคฏ

hollow glacier
#

there's no perfect right answer

#

ender 3v2 is down to $199 on sale which makes ender 3 pro basically no reason to buy

#

then from there you go to ender 3 s1 or s1 pro (only difference is the hot end assembly and cost here)

tender jewel
#

199 sale where?

hollow glacier
#

problem is

#

ender 3 s1 and s1 pro basically take a good design and make it better.. but they charge you so much for those upgrades that you are better off buying an ender 3 pro or 3v2 and then upgrading it yourself with even better upgrades for cheaper than the ender 3 s1 / s1 pro models

#

and frankly most of those upgrades arent even that useful for basic printing needs

hollow glacier
tender jewel
#

Includes the silent board. I should just buy that?

hollow glacier
#

i have two and think they're great

tender jewel
#

Plus some filament.

hollow glacier
#

dont even use the filament it comes with

#

it's a tiny roll of shit

#

and it needs a couple mandatory upgrades out of the box

tender jewel
#

I see on that url it has $36 for 2kg PLA. Is that any good?

hollow glacier
#

before even printing

tender jewel
#

"upgrades"? ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

hollow glacier
#

i dont buy creality filament.. mixed reviews online

#

$12 capricorn tube to replace the stock one it comes with (stock one offgasses at normal printing temps and it's made of teflon so not ideal to breathe in)

#

second upgrade is those yellow springs

hollow glacier

looks ok. it's possible it comes with the wrong gear like talked about here:
