yeah that's the rub. They'll never get the efficiency up enough to offset the added weight of just lugging batteries around. Except for in aircraft where weight matters a hell of a lot more and engine designs that are impractical on the ground (see: turbofans) are the gold standard
You can feed a turbofan basically any combustible gas and get decent efficiency, so the only real challenge is storage (which is a Big Problem for hydrogen), and making the fuel in the first place (which is still not a rosy picture for... anything else, really)

I think, at least for transoceanic freighters, we'll bite the bullet and bring back nuclear fission. It's just too good to leave on the table, especially the new micro-reactor designs

But it's really not a problem for man-made water bodies that you probably don't want much living in anyway, cut down on invasive species.

on the topic of radioactive waste, the only real hurdle is nimbyism. It's a solved problem.
The stronger the radiation, the shorter the half-life. After a matter of months you can dilute the stuff in concrete and it'll be totally harmless. Burying it is "just in case". And that's leaving out the whole recycling thing.... what you can't recycle is dramatically less radioactive.

I might be able to clear it then compose an image in the screen's memory directly from the esp's flash
I'd have to write the logic to convert a row,column to a memory address and make my setpixel draw to that instead. That wouldn't be the hardest to do.
It'd be slow though since I'd have to be constantly spamming address updates in addition to the actual data.
The annoying thing about the esp32's ram is it's in 4 non-contiguous banks so I had to break my screen buffer up into three different blocks.

I wasn't fond of their 'We took Eclipse and made it slower' IDE.
I used a couple stm32f401's with nrf24l01 RF transcievers to convert a USB keyboard into a wireless one
But I couldn't reasonably make it sleep and the USB host took too much power to be battery powered.
The nrf24l01's also had shit range.
I just got a nRF52840 zigbee dev board in too.
I was originally going to use it to send the commands from my touchscreen remote to HA but the esp32 connecting to wifi ended up being a couple hundred ms instead of the couple seconds I was expecting so I didn't use the zigbee board.
nordic RF really sucks at documentation. The nRF52840's setup guide might as well not exist, it's absurdly wrong on basically every point.

I've got a number of the Hue outdoor motion sensors, they work well.
Haven't had any long enough for the battery to die yet though.
They all still report 100% battery after ~5 months

Still though, I think the Hue motion sensors are about the only device type I have that I haven't had to re-pair at least one or two of since I got them.

Re-paired as in reconnected them to Zigbee.
My door sensors give me the most issues, there's a couple I have to reconnect every 6-8 weeks.
My esphome sensors were all giving me issues with going offline at the same time once a month or so but then they all just sorta stopped doing that.

What's interesting is since I have hue bulbs outside I took a hue remote and turned it into a garage door opener with home assistant. Damn thing has 10x the range of my regular garage door opener
Got a sengled Remote and it works too, although the two dim buttons register as the same button in HA for some reason
