I haven't had issues with my Hue bulbs. I had a WiZ bulb that the red channel keeps flaking out on but it started doing that right after I got it so I was able to exchange it.
I have a Hue bridge I rooted so I could poke around on it, but I don't use it anymore.
It uses mqtt on the hue bridge for ipc, but doesn't actually expose it outside the device at all.

They'll either shut themselves off or disable the video signal and then the TV will turn itself off

Just a shower thought: With all the different tools around (home assistant, node red, openhab, just to mention a few) and even more devices/systems for which plugins are needed for the respective tool, have there ever been thoughts around standardizing those plugins? Today, we're duplicating that work across all the tools and in the end it seems there's always something that works here but not here or just the quality sucks or whatever. If we'd just have a little microservice with a standardized REST API for each device/system (hue, knx, etc) with a standardized, I'd imagine everybody to benefit from that.

Pretty much anything can be integrated with Home Assistant via MQTT. That's as close to an API as you will get IMO. See e.g. Zigbee2MQTT, EspHome, Plejd2mqtt, Tasmota, MySensors2mqtt, WLED... they all use or can use MQTT to communicate with Home Assistant.
And that's just the stuff I've personally used.

I actually did this in college once at the end of the semester and our dorm room we would get charged if there was dents on the wall.
Obviously they were dents on the wall because we would take our mice and Chuck them at the wall at mach 10 after we got slammed in League.
So I took some duct tape put it on the wall and ripped off a sample of the paint and then I took that paint sample to Lowe's got it color matched got a pint of it and then proceeded to paint all the holes over and fill the holes with tape and then paint over the tape

I only really use OpenRGB to turn my lights off anymore. On the PC before this one I had a bunch of effects set up that'd just call OpenRGB over and over to change colors.
It starts almost instantly if you recompile it to only poll for the devices you own instead of all it supports.
The RGB controller on my new PC craps itself and goes offline if I call it that fast though.

Got it working! Seems like I was just an idiot, trying to indicate device activity with the LED sinking into the DAS pin. Should probably just use it to drive MOSFET gate.

Vpn adds a slighly layer of obscurity as well as requiring extra credentials. Not 100% secure, nothing is, but far much more work to get in

I have a DS4243. Noisy and dumb, and you need a weird semi-expensive cable to connect it to a standard HBA, but it gets the job done. And they're dirt cheap secondhand.

err noob question. i setup pfsense on metal on a pc with onboard nic and 2 port pcie nic, and i see that ive been assigned a lan but wan has not been assigned. since i have 3 ports, whats the effective way to determine which ports i plug in for wan and lan so that i can change settings in the router admin page?
