Yea, the new automations screen is not good. I don't see the point of collapsing everything, it adds a ton of pointless clicks to make everything visible again. Putting rename/mode/run/disable/enable in the menu instead of in a block at the top of the screen like it was is straight up obnoxious.

There's no easy toggle on the list anymore, you have to hit a stupid menu again.

Hiding things behind menus to use less of the screen != a cleaner interface.

Sometimes I wonder if the people designing UIs (in all kinds of programs, not just this one instance in HA) ever actually try using it like an end-user would.

I was thinking of having a menu on it to configure wifi.

I could make it have a menu for that then you send it a yaml file over a socket or something. It could write it to eeprom and if there's one present in eeprom it uses that over the compiled-in one.

That's what I've got for the yaml so far, the TV menu all works and makes calls to HA using the data in the yaml. None of the other menus are really made yet.

Between the screen taking no power except when redrawing and that controller for the touchscreen sending interrupts that let me put the esp32 into a deep sleep mode I'm hoping for months to years of battery life with it.

I haven't measured it yet but from the datasheets I've been reading I think I'm going to be between .1mA and .2mA of idle power draw.

Maybe another 100microamps if I end up getting that motion sensor ic to wake it on movement.

The esp board I'm using has a li-ion/li-po charger on it too, which is convenient.

I also need to figure out why I can't free() a random 4k block of memory I malloc'd without an assert getting thrown. I can free the other like 40 blocks being allocated during yaml parsing just fine, but not this one.

What I tried: Solve Interference , No neighbours with WiFi, im middle of nowhere.
Kill my other networks like Zigbee, Bluetooth etc...
Change router
Change clients
Factory reset both clients and router ( both router ).

The problem: as soon I go to WiFi settings on my laptop or phone and click to my WiFi 2.4GHz, it says error I cannot connect. 5GHz works perfectly.

Ended up switching the yaml from parsed on the esp32 to parsed into const c structs beforehand. I couldn't make the yaml file big enough when I was parsing it on the esp32 without libyaml running out of memory.

Honestly I'd be fine with a basic schematic of what's hooked up to the mcu plus header pins to reprogram them.
