Eh, if I am I am highly functioning and good at social engineering
Which probably puts me in some savant category
that sounds like you're doing IT for government
I'm private
private atx 😉
I work with.... Roughly 50+ different products, 15 of which I'm the only one in country who does in my company, an probably 3-4 only one in country overall
god i hope you write good documentation
Shaving private atx
I do
I thought your head was naturally smooth
you're pretty ok for a full time dick
although you hurt that pi if i recall correctly
Show me on this pi where the man megahurtz you
goddamn why are my zoomer emotes not allowed here

🦝

is that atx after work?
It's me at work
oh, right. sorry
mhhh, naah
I'd love to see you do that atx
take a gopro and stream a work day on here 😄
from one of your dark sites, for extra fun
show me your ethernet crimp tool
do you crimp yourself? I'd expect you to have gremlins for that o.0
i don't touch hardware at all, i crimp at home and i freaking hate it
We don't crimp at work, unless I'm making specialized serial cables
my fat fingers always mess it up half a second before i crimp the damn thing
I've been crimping for 25 year, very few bad ones
@glacial knot no that's just his brain
i recently moved over to those slide-through connectors which make it 100x easier
I still hate it
especially cat6 shielded
Imagine crimping your own cables
Ew, through connectors
yeah, i bought the non slide through ones :/
you got some poor lad coming over to your place and doing it for you?
Pretty much
I've got 2-3 vendors I use. Works for me.
That and preterminated fiber and measurements go a long way
I'm talking strictly home usage - for work is a different story
I was about to say, sounds awfully lazy for some home wiring 😆
All but 2 computers are fiber connected too. And that's because they're laptops lmao
that sounds like a great project to do, but i have so little use for more than 1gbit links
do you live in an EM storm? OR why fiber everywhere?
You'd be surprised how much bandwidth you can push once it's available
Because it is the American dream
I like fiber.
10000BASE-T though
Cheap 10gb and 40gb links
Mikrotik?
That's the bulk of it yeah
Knew it
That's what I use in individual rooms
love the hardware, hate the software
I have no issues with it
Try using a dell switch and see how much you love mikrotik software lmao
My router is the Udm pro
network gear is similar to car infotainment systems. millions and millions of R&D, yet no one is competent enough to make every aspect of it good
Software features can be lacking but the hardware has been reliable and strong
i'm taking delivery of mine soon, finally getting rid of that fiery brick they call USG3
Lul
changing a firewall rule legit takes 5 minutes to provision
Ironically not a fan of unifi APs though
Fritz!Box representin`
They always seem behind the times
Y'all disgusting
I run Aruba 515s in my house. Works
515s are nice
mmmm, i've got nano HD everywhere and they are great for me but i guess most will actually work. i'm not running too much advanced stuff
oh hell no

Ew.
how's the temp and noise on the udm pro?
Hey now, my RPI has been demoted to monitoring my home electricity usage over serial rj11
Arm is only cool if it is in the same sentence as Isambard
my HA runs on an AMD 3000G 😎
there's no way HA can actually utilise that power lol
I just run some cheap fritzbox router with openwrt at home
unless you run some camera stuff i suppose
Yes I have 42 cameras.
why so many?
he's got 42 toilets
Large property.
large property? that sounds like an understatement for 42 cameras!
@meager flume no only 3
actually i guess indoor cameras too
which brand do you prefer?
3 toilets on an area that needs 42 cams? Do you want accurate 3d scans of everyone's butt?
Yes.
cameras inside? do you check your poop on your 42 toilets?
Do you not want 3d scans of peoples' butt?
I call them skirt cams 😉
pm
My WAF would sink to rock bottom if there's no way to physically disable the cameras as soon as we enter that part of the house
PoE switches, right?
What do you think of unifi protect?*
Overpriced
thank god
Solid product but definitely over priced
i am contemplating it for the doorbell though
I have the foscam doorbell
I'm happy with it
Granted the app doesn't work too well but I just use blue iris
mmmm
To be fair I like buying cameras to test drive them too lmao
One thing I don't understand is everyone's obsession with that empire tech guy
Literally just rebadged dahuas for 3x the cost
Yall hear about the new LEO cell phone tech rolling out?
my expectations: #the-water-cooler message
Which?
ATT apparently has been working on it for a couple years now
and TMobile just inked a deal with starlink
Agreed. Or even just have such limited usage what's the point
Or not be reliable enough that people would trust it over sat phones
hmm try setting privileges directly to the exe, and have that as a custom executor. Im thinking maybe the Agent doesnt like having a shortcut instead of an exe
if this too fails, check out the discord for lab02 research https://discord.gg/XrVS4k3p
Yuck, I saw indoor cameras mentioned
dont you wanna record how you scratch you butt?
No thanks, I'll let the high crime countries keep their indoor cameras so they can watch the home invasion from every probable angle
I want an outdoor camera to watch what animals appear on our balcony. Otherwise no need
🦝
I have outdoor cameras, they mostly see us leaving and going, but I do enjoy capturing dogs that have run away
I pretty much only see bird murderers (cats). Scared the shit out of one last month. Got a movement alert and saw it on the camera sitting outside the kitchen window. So I snuck in and jumped up from behind the kitchen counter.
My doorbell is mostly good for capturing me getting home drunk while my girlfriend opens the door for me, clearly fed up with my shit
Never fails to make us laugh the day after
your doorbell doesn't do face recognition to take the load off of your gf?
@finite atlas https://i.redd.it/uxgbvc6dm9k91.png
Whereas in English we have their, they're, and there, which mean different things and sound exactly the same
Theirs yore problems
You're forgetting your tales of yore
They're whee gogh
yes, is fun
4? it's some multiple of 3, depending on how far you go o.0
Nine
non-english... pssh
Well, American is also non-english to be fair
more optimization
become the dominant culture and everyone comes to you
oh, you speak chinese?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_total_number_of_speakers is ... interesting
that emote code D:
Top two have over a billion, and then it steps down sharply
And English only has it for being Lingua Franka.
Second hand speakers due to forceful adoption you say
become the dominant culture and everyone comes to you
"forced" or "want to work with English speakers", you pick
since it's mandatory in school, forced
but again, I would say "want to work with English speakers"
in other words, there's a reason, it's not just edict
or, perhaps, as Tinkerer said, it's just the "common language"
either way, there's a point to it
I like to pretend that if we all shared a common language we'd all be nicer to each other.
we all speak English and German at work. Sales still doesn't speak the same language as R&D 😂
Sales... yeah, don't get me started
Sales: We promised the customer it'd come in pink with some sparkly stripes
Engineering: It's oil you dipshit
much pcb, so few components
More cushion for the pushing
not as interesting as first glance. you gotta remember there are baby factory countries
read somewhere those don't always work as you may want
instead of seperate at same time they run solo with like a fallback kind of perfornace
High availability raccoon identification
I wish google my maps did day planning 🙁
Lol some Dutch broadcaster got convinced by 1000 users to continue providing Teletext
What in the good Lords name
Some people put emojis in their computers hostname. smh
Depends on your OS I suspect
I saw somebody the other day here who'd used the shruggie for their WiFi and were having issues as a result
I know that they are specified in an RFC. But the effective reality probably differs from that
that one is perfectly valid though o.0
wifi ESSID is just 0-32 bytes
there's an agreement to constrain it to UTF-8, but I'm not sure whether that's a published as a standard somewhere
What in tarnation
Kids these days
Brb my new hostname

Is that a MichelleHurts?
Sometimes
I see a unsecured roborock in my wifi list. What should i do? Can i paor it to the app? I would like to clean my neighbors apartment
If any of you shitedonkeys need to rent a car in the near future
Avis AWD A159139 gave me around 60% discount
So I’m at a hotel right next to arc d’ triomphe in Paris. And let me tell you, the view from my window is Something Else.
…entirely…
I was at one hotel recently which had a window that looked out onto a brick wall... that was less than a foot away from the window
it's certainly fallen into disrepair
That looks like my standard view from any London hotel
I've had mixed success. Some good views, some ok views, and some strange ones. Mostly I can't say I care though, I'm not there for the view out of the hotel window
I'm gonna go for our corporate apartments next time I go
£100 a day for apartments in London isn't bad
And i can get apartments in Croatia for $5 a day
And vineyards in Italy with 25 beds for $1000 a week
And i can get apartments in Croatia for $5 a day
That sounds like a closet in somebody else's room
They are actually quite nice
In big cities
They do pretty good campaigns
We have a few to choose from in Croatia
sounds like the price point of a youth hostel
@clever mortar on that note I've been going nutty with automation since I figured out I can use PIR sensors to trigger alerts for my blue iris cameras lmao
Coconut.
Just had the owner of a chinese joint we use to order from alot stop by and tell me they had moved but are still willing to deliver to my address
that's like old school customer loyalty lol
we use to order from that place a lot especially during the pandemic but they moved so we never called them again
guess they missed us lol
I actually had my first delivery of food in probably 14 years yesterday
https://open.spotify.com/track/58zqOyrpXZQNwjkRtjGXqG?si=yEtzHlX0R0mP9BIDIZL-HA&utm_source=copy-link
megalodon scared whale onto your house?
No, I couldn't be bothered to go out fetching food after a busy day with the kids
what types of food do they deliver in norway?
Anything
surprised that's even a thing, don't you all live in remote pockets miles away from anything buisness related?
Not really, but takeout and delivery in general is pretty rare
Before we had kids we did it maybe once a month at most, after having kids it is at least every two weeks
surprised they can find drivers willing to get that close to another norwegian lol
ding dong dash of food
ding dong ditch i mean
I wish
This one cracked me up, reminded me of so many of my customers
The American dream still lives
@clear ferryhave you ever messed with the PPP portion of opnsense at all?
No, we didn't have *sense in the 90s
Closest would be PPPoE
I've done that, but that was 15 years ago
i keep running into what I think may be a bug. when i setup a ppp device in the ui and click save, there is no apply option afterwards like when you change settings for almost everything else
and thus when I try and enable the new interface in the assignments page it errors saying the ppp0 configuration must be applied first
Have you tried posting in the forums? They are usually quick to comment there
Albeit both the opnsense and pfsense forum users are absolute cunts
not yet, i keep hoping to google stumble upon an answer lol
Lol. My house came with this ridiculous motion sensitive kitchen sink that turns off after 4 gallons. I left it filling the sink and left the room and it triggered my motion sensor when it turned itself off.
22.7.2?
You can also try the reddit, I think it is r/opnsensefirewall
They have devs who are active
yea i'm on whatever is the latest, just updated it like 4 days ago
which now i kind of regret
cause i won't know if it had worked right before lol
Sunday ppp riddles 🤔
Point to Point Protocol not Pressurized Penis Problems like what your thinking
Lol, to solve that, it's a few clicks away. Don't have to scratch your head and bow to google Gods for days. 😀
oh? have experience with Pressurized Penis Problems do you?
It's 2022, those are not problems. Common knowledge, compadre
yea gotta fully disagree with you on that one. penis problems such as that may be common place in your state but then STD's always has ran rampant there but it's not like that everywhere else lol
No idea what you mumbling about 🤔
Shame, so sad about your short term memory loss issue.
anyone have any xp with wmi queries? Am trying to use a query via HassAgent to determine when my xbone usb controller is connected. So far I haven't been able to determine its id/object class
You know it's funny about home assistant
It started as a little fun side project and now it's becoming important enough I'm considering giving the install it's own machine
Those little mini pc powerhouses are looking real attractive
Eventually it breaks and you're taking a shower in the dark...
i love showers in the dark
No judgement here
Rule 1 of home automation, everything works without the automation
Rule 2: have something or someone else to blame when your SO complains about something not working
Like Paulus for inventing HA
or when you're fiddling with automations in the middle of the night and click "run actions" and all of a sudden your entire house is a rave
.>
I tend to just wave my hand and say computer's
Gets the point across
That sir would activate my Echos
Think that would further prove a point lol
Ok, playing Olivia Rodrigo..
Sadly accurate
Yuck voice control
At least voice control would make sure old people here will never use it... They mostly speak in dialect.
Burnistoun stars @Iain Connell and @Robert Florence.
Eleven.
I just hate the concept of yelling something above ambient noise that would be misinterpreted anyway, also the feeling of giving orders feels very authoritarian
I just let stuff happen, based on other stuff
Voice recognition just works™ for me
Same. Do it for small things that an automation wouldn't work easily for. Such as my lights above my desk
Yup, I use it for the times you want to over-ride the automations, and usually then I have an automation that notices this and disables the other ones (flips a boolean)
https://i.imgur.com/nSxtwji.png best dashboard layout ever
They do all work though, just finished getting my AV receiver automated.
I can't find any way to resize them.
I'm either going to make narrow bars like the Switch one is for all of them or embed a webpage or something that has them properly formatted for this dashboard.
use the button card https://github.com/custom-cards/button-card learn it, use it, love it.
this damn modem will be the death of me
I just found a post saying opnsense supports MBIM now and that most modems should just show up at eth interfaces yet no matter what route I take this godamn thing won't work lmao
it's absolutly nuts that it works 100% under the os but opnsense itself is like derp derp
Windows is a game console confirmed
Yea, but then I have to actually set up icons and not point a picture card to the first image Google Images gives me.
Which is on my to-do list anyways
I'm going to put pushbuttons next to the consoles to switch to that input too.
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
I've been considering trying to build a programmable Zigbee remote. I'm thinking an e-ink screen like https://www.amazon.com/Waveshare-5-65inch-Colorful-Display-Consumption/dp/B08D67FLSZ with a resistive touchscreen layer like https://www.adafruit.com/product/1676 on top. It'll wake up the Zigbee module when a touch is pressed and it'll check where the touch is and send the corresponding command to.
The controller for the resistive touchscreen claims it only takes 32.24 microamps in the datasheet
so much my network gets confused sometimes and my p0rn stops streaming
just made a post on the opnsense reddit about my issue but i am absolutely horrible with asking questions about crap
$70+ for a unique reddit avatar? wtf is this world coming to
It's years of exposure to other people like that here
It didn't work and I got an error. Help!
$1.05 per kwh tomorrow
that's nearly 10 times what i pay for lol
The electricity price barely shifted here
We mostly burn coal to produce electricity and have loads of hydropower here
The coal is mined within the country so no issues there regarding supplies
It's $0.077/KWh here.
Around 1€ here tonight and tomorrow. Meanwhile I'm still on a 0.04€ contract so for every kWh I consume by idling here is losing my energy company 96%, gg (not including transport of energy which is in the ballpark of 0.06€ iirc)
That because of the Russia closing the pipelines situation?
I've heard that Europe is getting hit a lot harder by that than NA is.
It's partially that. We also pay by the highest costing product in the market, so because natural gas is expensive right now, all other producers can sell at that level as well - making one hell of a bank
well, we all get a power mix that's traded like stock
I pay separately for my natural gas and electricity. I can't recall what my natural gas rate is.
Same company, just different line items.
Fun fact, because of the state subsidizing if you have fixed price you actually earn money using more power
That varies wildly in Europe as well. We have very few gas stoves here in Finland, so when we talk about natural gas we mean energy production from it
So people are asking their neighbours to charge their EVs at their house
Ah.
Making €x000 per month
Good job gubbernment setting the incentives just right
There's more natural gas plants near me but they're out-produced by the coal plants around me.
Norway doesn't use natural gas at all, so all we produce we sell
What do you use for heating?
Electricity
In Finland either district heating or electricity
District heating is only the bigger cities here, and only newer Buildings
Norway just backwards smh
Electricity for heating is like 5x the price of natural gas for heating in the winter here.
Currently we are at 6600% normal price for power
"In Norway district heating only constitutes approximately 2% of energy needs for heating" yikes
I don't think I've ever used district heating here in the US.
Finland and Sweden are at around 50% and Denmark is at 64%. How does it feel being the failed scandi state
I just replaced my AC at the start of this summer, I got a reversible one that heats too. It's nice.
If we fail in district heating at least we don't fail in integration policy, energy policies and other failing Scandinavia policies
I also have a natural gas furnace since the heat pump isn't cost-efficient below around 8c
Yeah, I have three mini splits, use them for cooling all summer, and heating in two floors in winter
Mine goes down to -30
Starts being less effective around -20-25
Start throwing in wood fire at that point
Mine will still resistively heat when it's below 8c but that's a lot more expensive than just using natural gas for me.
Where does the wood go into the minisplit?
In the rectum inlet
I put in a 3 ton minisplit with 4 wall units hanging off of it.
NICE
You build a fire under the outdoor exchange
I got a DIY minisplit kit that had pre-charged lines with quick connects and everything, basically just mount everything and connect the power/pipes. It ended up saving me like $5,000 over having a professional come install a system.
And I didn't have to actually learn how to do AC/risk dumping refrigerant into the air.
Yeah the quick connect stuff was discontinued here
Because of leakage issues
Were multiple companies offering it
I checked all my connectors with soap water afterwards, I didn't see any bubbles forming anywhere.
Slow leak over time from what I saw
The connector slips over time due to temperature flux
I've bought pipe bending tools and angled wrenches because I was planning to install one of the splits myself, I just needed to borrow my neighbours vacuum pump, but I didn't get time in the end, so I opted for an installer
Paid $300 for the mini split and $300 for the install
I paid about $3500 for my minisplit. I got a quote to have my central air replaced beforehand and it came out to $8,000, which didn't even include the electrical work.
Yikes
And it was going to be two months out before I could get someone out to do the work.
Even my Samsung which was new and high end was $1500 for install and the split itself
The central air system they wanted to sell me was only like $2000 but it had a crap efficiency rating and wasn't reversible.
$2000 for the unit itself
The one I got has a SEER of 23.5, the one the installer wanted to sell me had a SEER of 13.
I'm pretty sure 13 is the legal minimum here
Probably uses a different refrigerant.
I think that's what determines the operational range
It's all R1234yf on mine
If I remember correctly
Might be R32 on the Samsung which is newer
My minisplit is R134a and I've got a window unit in my sunroom that's R290 (Propane)
Never seen r134a outside of cars
It's also banned since 2015 it seems
Never saw r290
The central air system I replaced was R-22, which was the bad one that was destroying the ozone.
Yeah, that is the bad stuff
R410 has been the norm here for 20+ years in cars that I've owned
I've never had to mess with the AC on any of my cars, never had any problems with them.
I've used to have a lot of older cars so had to refill and plug leaks a lot
Now I have 2 and 4 year old cars, so don't have to think about it
My first truck was 20 years old when I sold it, my current car is 9 years old.
Only two cars I've had.
My current car was only two years old when I bought it
I didn't save $50k on my car but it was about $10k cheaper than a new one at the time. It'd been previously owned by a rental agency and only driven a few thousand miles too.
Yeah, mine had been leased and done 50k km
Was $125k new
Still 4 year warranty left
Mine had a warranty when I got it but it's long since over.
Seems more and more auto makers move to 7 years now by default
5 years is minimal these days
I seen some do 8 years
I hit the mileage limit on my warranty before I hit the age limit.
They're all like 7 years or 100,000 miles here, whichever you hit first.
I'll probably drive less than 10k km next year D:
Ah yeah, I don't do that many miles anymore
I went work from home when Covid hit, I've put around 10k miles/16k km on my car since then.
yea, mostly WFH, and switching to commute by train
When I first got my car my daily commute was 70mi/112km a day so I racked up mileage on it pretty fast.
Yeah, i could do 700km in one day when I was busy
Now I can't be bothered, give me a VPN
Or if it is far I'll just do plane
Absolutely no part of me misses sitting in traffic for hours a day.
I hated going into the office, too. I was the only person on my team at my location so I just sat in an office by myself all day anyways.
In talks with my manager to move remotely in the north, and just do plane whenever I need to visit customers, every two weeks or so
I drive my dad's car sometimes (I'm 17, can't buy my own yet), its a renault from 2021 and has about 8000km on it
it's a nice car!
I've never been in a Renault, they don't really have any presence in NA.
Sorry, i will never love a French car
I ask for a replacement when I do rentals if I get a French car
i live in a huge Indian city, you're gonna need an hour to go a kilometre sometimes lol
they're... a minority here in India
I've seen the horror videos of traffic in India

well i live that every day
so i just drive my electric scooter everywhere, better to dodge traffic
I took busses everywhere when I was 17.
I did considering buying a motorcycle at one point, but I'll just end up killing myself
Electric scooters don't work well in 2' of snow, lol.
yea, I know too many people missing limbs due to motorcycles D:
my drive to my classes is 9km, i need 30 mins at most on my electric scooter
When i take the car it's easily over 2hrs
no worries it never snows here!
I've always kinda wanted a motorcycle but I have a hard time justifying a vehicle I can't drive 7 months of the year.
can't really die unless i do dumb shit, this things top speed is 50km/h
I think the deepest snow I've been in was about 5'
well, i don't really have other options, buses here suck
Most years it doesn't ever get deeper than 1-2' here
My hometown in 1997 @prisma briar
and I'm waiting to turn 18 so i can legally drive a car xD
I hate driving bikes of any kind
damn... I suddenly feel lucky that it never snowed here
I can't find any good photos of it, but in 2006 we had a blizzard here that dumped like 5' in a day. Buried cars and closed all the schools, mostly.
Peoples' cars here can't handle that kind of snow.
I do miss my old quattro, but the Volvo suffices fine
And for how much snow Colorado gets our plows suck.
This is what "winter" looks like here, basically just 15°C and a fog in the morning
Most cars here don't even have proper heaters LOL
Just a beefy cooking unit as it often gets upto 45°C here
I always assumed car heaters just ran the air through a conduit wrapped around the engine block to heat it up.
Old designs did for sure
Electric heating supplement became normal here around 00 or so
On the higher end Audi's
My daily commute is on roads like this one, dull, boring
it's electric in our car
our cars heater sucks anyways, never had to use it
Heh, my brother had to buy an engine block heater for his car because he had a -45f cold snap where he lived.
He's about 1000 miles north of me
Coldest I've had here was two weeks of -35c
The petrol and diesel ones are far more potent, about 5kW output
No issues for the cars
man i feel uncomfortable at 20°C I'm gonna die at -35
Think my A8 had 8kw
I'm used to temps in the mid 30s
Beyond about -5C it all feels the same tbh
Most cars where my brother lives are sold with engine block heaters, basically just a resistive heater you plug in overnight to keep the engine from getting too cold to start.
If it is low RH
I'll be surprised if mine has even 1kw
You big show off 🤣
I've seen those in cars from the 90s, never seen one on modern cars
The ones here are designed to work on a 10A outlet, including if there is a blower fan in the passenger compartment, so 1kW ish checks out
Never liked audis personally, theyre too loud
Cars are loud?
My 99 V70 has a block heater option, a lot of people choose to put on heaters that warm the fluid instead
I live in a tropical country where heaters are considered optional, so I'd be surprised if it's even 1kw
yeah, sports cars are
Pagani Zonda R goes brrrr
Well, yes
But Audi's come with 1.6l engines too
My mom's prius isn't.
Heck, you get the A2 with 1.0l
my renault has a 3 cylinder 1L engine 😂
here Audi is when you cannot afford a BMW
The norm here is 1.6-2.0
the norm here is fuel saving
Even my Volvo is only 2.0 but it has 320bhp
My Nissan Altima is a 4 cylinder 2.5 liter.
My dad got this car because he likes driving slow and didn't mind a small engine, i personally hate driving it
Like my old caddy vans I used to get
the mileage though... it's nice
The 1.6 with the small turbo was awful, my 2019 one had a 2L turbo though, it was lovely
Most cars here do 1L or 1.2L at most, beyond that are rich people's cars
I mean it doesn't even matter you're gonna be stuck in traffic, why bother with a larger engine
NICE
was just idling at highway speeds 😄
70 MPG, that's pretty nice
it's a lot less in the city though
Yeah, but that's the nature of it
I'll get about 60 MPG on my car if I can sit at a steady 60 MPH, and about 40 MPG if I'm pottering around, but that's the joy of diesel
My old audi did 55
Which was good enough for a large station wagon
Or 4.5/100 for eu
The usual problem is finding a flat enough stretch of road that you can sit at an efficient speed on without causing problems
Oh, you too have tried driving in Norwegian fjords
Also, i love that Elon musk tries to hide his south African accent so bad behind an American accent that he doesn't even sound like a native English speaker
To be honest, the back roads around here aren't any straighter. They just seem to follow whatever route somebody felt like, after they'd had a few pints.
_mumble mumble road following some Gaelic legend based on sacred roads mumble mumble _
your hometown in a few more years.
You say that, but there is no draught in the northern Arctic regions, they have full fiber connections for the last 20 years and you are struggling to get a ppp modem running in a state that reintroduced paddling, I'm not gonna complain
Elon Musk has a very weird accent and is a terrible public speaker
only because I run the euro version of this software, if i switch to pfsense the us version i am sure it would work..
He sounds like a 15 year old who tries to convince his crush to go prom
He would go nowhere on the strength of his communication style
I was surprised and disappointed when I first heard him speak
And because of the accent mashup he fumbles so much i struggle to understand some words
Right, he stammers, misspeaks, and is just generally uninspiring
He's a pretty big see you next Tuesday too
Too much weed or too little, perhaps

anyone tried cheap ass zigbee devices from ali express?
there is at least one ali express cheap ass in this channel
But.... NO!
I have. Only battery powered ones though
Kubernetes is decent in a small number of niche situations for applications that were written for it. The modern trend of k8s everything needs to die.

Most wouldnt trash for that, however fox news (and the other weird media sites like that)....
many german news outlets trash for similar stuff
Der Spiegel!
Der Zeit!
I know at least two then
Don't know any Australia ones though, guessing The Boomerang, Put it on the Barbie and Cunt News
JumpyCat news
any shell gurus here?
I have devices=$(echo "$devices" | sed '1s/{/{\n"iface": "wlan${ifacenum}",/g')
but '$ifacenum' is apparently not in the scope and literally results in "wlan$ifacenum"
Eh, I'd expect ifacenum to have been set elsewhere
yes, lines before
So... the presence of ' could be your issue
devices=$(echo "$devices" | sed "1s/{/{\n\"iface\": \"wlan${ifacenum}\",/g")
thank you sir
ahh, tinkerer found it. Yes, ' prevents shell expansion of the string

Some context would be nice
Yearly usage average?
Looks about right
Also, Norway and Sweden are the only countries who don't use gas , which skews the numbers quite a bit
Sweden maybe uses it some @last cedar
7k feels high for Germany o.0
Turn off those 2 servers in your garage, go yellow
It's mostly fertilizer production and industrial applications they say
Stop making fertilizer for those strawberries.
ATX makes enough fertiliser himself. He can pay it back
oh, "tomatos" he menas
Fertiliser is from shit, ATX never stops talking shit. Therefore infinite cycle
I see 4 tomato's and a bunch of orange coloured grapes
Not my fault you can't handle true true @umbral cliff
19k for 2 strawberries?
True true? This some Norweigan way of saying false?
I actually haven't had a need to use any heat in my greenhouse this year @tidal bronze because of the european heat wave
I see california is next
So average home use is 16k
You are actually right
but the average is calculated on apartments and houses
the average for a house appears to be 26000
That's not too high for all electric
if those darn germans just wouldn't consume all your electricity, using 26MWh a year wouldn't even be expensive for you guys
my parents definitivly use 45k a year probably
but they live in the arctic and have heated windows and enjoy 26c indoors
😄
heated windows? o.0
you mean to heat cold air up before it enters the house
well, a cold window radiates cold
by heating the window it does not
even with 2-3 layers
ooh
I can't imagine using electricity for heat.
default has been 2 layers here since the 80s
like a car's front
i thought like actual hot wires that heat up when you open the window to let fresh air in
3 layer became standard in the 00s
The only utility bill I don't look at is natural gas.
Lol, of course they are all on auto pay but water and power you gotta glance at it.
That's crazy cheap. Mines 5x that a month or more.
water meters hardly exist here
we pay based on house size and number of people
I know some companies have water meters
I have 2, lol, one for home use and 1 for irrigation.
Not much irrigation now with water restrictions 😀
rationed basic utilities? One of those things capitalists claim sound like communism? 😂
Restrictions for outdoor watering. Twice a week now.
We had restrictions in 2020
Not enforced though
Just strong language
With current power prices topping up an etron costs $160, with state subsidizing it costs $14
They adjust the allotment for tiers so if you go pass thresholds, you get hit with higher prices for the next year, all calculated based on previous usage. That's how they enforce it. I feel bad for my smart sprinkler controllers. Lol.
because you hit them so much to keep in bound, or because they are unused due to this?
They are somewhat pointless with restrictions. They work based on soil moisture, evap, retention, etc. All that out the window.
Uf
Not so green anymore 🙁
Oh man, nothing like unexpectedly being the focal point of a meeting for an hour.
shouldn't have snorted whatever that white powder was then
I would've had more answers ready if I was expecting this, lol.
been there, done that, got the tshirt
Management just realized that having 4 different people telling 4 other different people the requirements is causing things to get implemented redundantly so I'm getting asked a bunch of questions about what components I was working on.
Narrator: It wasn't even a good tshirt
At least it was a t-shirt
I usually have 0 issues talking about current tasks o.0
Current, or past, tasks are fine. It's when you're asked for your "expert opinion", with zero time to prepare...

And of the four people working on related tasks I'm the only one in this meeting so I'm getting asked questions about other peoples' workloads too.
it's the getting caught offguard with requests for current data that necessarily requires some research that I dislike
I have told people "If you wanted to know about the work of X, maybe you should have invited X"
and that I'm not personally working on, and stuff that maybe happened overnight, and it's 8am
some user on here is trying to scam people
Oh man, I hate those 'This happened at 6 AM, what are the exact details' questions asked at the 7 AM standup.
ain't no friend o' mine
I've just been being fast at searching commits
the work that's already in commits is usually boring 🤷
even boring changes can potentially blow up
I was trying to figure out why a decision had been made. Ended up being that it had just been copied from another project and never tailored to this project, so I was looking for old commits.
Most of my devices are cheap Ali
What you wanna know
nothing can possiblI go wrong! err, possibly go wrong! that's the first thing that's ever gone wrong 😂
My first commit broke a website and my senior dev approved it without looking at the code
Fun days
Yuck devs
somebody has to keep you employed
That's true, the hpc nerds love my hardware
all hail the makers
"Your item has been processed through a facility in KIEV PI-2, UKRAINE "
I'm a bit surprised the Ukranian mail service is still working to ship me video games.
Figured they'd drop down to essential business only or something.

The ability to carry on daily life while air raid sirens are regularly going off seems crazy to me, but I work with folks in Israel who have experience with it, too
Interesting that changing my mini split 1c up in temp changed the energy usage per day from 3.5-5kwh to 0.5-1.0kwh
Added some more RGB. I thought you might like it atx 😛
Welp my schlague lock died today
So that's fun
Think i'm just going back to regular lock and slapping an august on it
zwave has been nothing but a pain in the dick anyway
Dumb locks have many advantages. I'd never have a single smart lock as my way into a house.
I mean it still works as a regular lock lol
That's something at least
Just the electronic components aren't getting power
Likely a short somewhere or something idfk
It does get pretty cold here there could be some damage
wont have that issue with an august where all the electronics are indoors
ah well
AT LEAST IT'S STILL WARM OUT SO I DON'T HAVE TO PULL IT APART IN THE SNOW
lmao
smart locks 🤢 (he said after he bought one, albeit for internal use)
Nah, it's for keeping the kids out of our home offices
garage
well, mine yes, the wife has a attic office with a veranda 😄
hashtag that feeling, when you forgot you have a raspberry pi running
I put one of my rpi zeros directly in the butt of my upstairs UPS
because I wanted to monitor it with NUT
forgot about it, saw a live raspberry pi in my DHCP list
That's not nice
Oh boy Gorbachev is dead
I thought he was dead years ago
I forgot about the pi for quite some time
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ stat / | grep "Birth" | sed 's/Birth: //g' | cut -b 2-11

I want a smart lock so I could get into my house with absolutely nothing on hand if I get locked out unexpectedly or something.
I remember my childhood, if I forgot my keys I just broke into some open windows of my parents house
😄
did that often enough
First thing I did when I got my house was fix all the questionable window and door latches.
And replace all the keys.
I bought a bunch of Schlage locks and keyed them all to be the same.
Right now I just have a spare key in a lockbox in my garage, and I can open my garage with a keypad.
I probably didn't start locking my front door until 2009
still only lock it at night tbh
I mostly only lock my doors when everyone's sleeping too
Or when nobody's home
I've got HA set up to be an alarm system.
Flashes my lights, makes noise, calls my cell phone.
Hmm, I should probably make my indoor motion sensors trigger the away alarm.
Away Alarm! {% if states("binary_sensor.away_alarm_exterior_doors") == "on" %}Open Doors: {%endif%}{% set first = 1 -%}{%for entity in state_attr('binary_sensor.away_alarm_exterior_doors','entity_id')%}{% if not states(entity) == "off" %}{% if not first %}, {% else %}{% set first = 0 -%}{% endif %}{{state_attr(entity,"friendly_name") }} - {{states(entity) | replace("None","Unknown") | replace("on","Open") | replace("off","Closed") }}{% endif %}{% endfor%} {% if states("binary_sensor.away_alarm_exterior_windows") == "on" %}Open Windows: {%endif%}{% set first = 1 -%}{%for entity in state_attr('binary_sensor.away_alarm_exterior_windows','entity_id')%}{% if not states(entity) == "off" %}{% if not first %}, {% else %}{% set first = 0 -%}{% endif %}{{state_attr(entity,"friendly_name") }} - {{states(entity) | replace("None","Unknown") | replace("on","Open") | replace("off","Closed") }}{% endif %}{% endfor%}
Ain't Jinja beautiful?
I don't think it would win an obfuscated Jinja contest, but it's well on its way
It's not actually very complicated when it's formatted reasonably.
If I get a smart lock I could have it toggle the alarm if the code on the smart lock is entered.
Flashes lights, calls cellphone, makes noise, and what? The thief would run outside because of fear!?
The plan is I check cameras and see what's up and alert authorities if necessary.
Basically what a normal alarm company does.
Maybe I could put an HA-controlled security turret in my livingroom.
Got it. Alarm without physical response makes very little sense. 2 to 3 minute response time at that. 😀 I personally don't believe in alarms anymore other than connected fire alarms.
I also have a fire alarm, though I broke my z-wave adapter so they're just expensive smoke detectors at the moment.
Pushed the cart my server was on too close to the wall and crushed it.
I want to get a heat detector alarm for my garage but I couldn't find a z-wave one.
I might get an inter-connectable heat alarm and put an esp on the sensor line
What I meant was fire station connected fire alarm. No point in alerting myself for fires 😀
@shy comet you ready? 😀
Just in time when I get back from vacation
If I wanted a directly-connected alarm I'd have to use heat detectors everywhere and have it vetted and permitted and everything.
Too many false alarms with just smoke alarms.
Ionisation or light based smoke alarms? Because light has a lot fewer false alarms
Photoelectric
The easy-to-install, wireless, battery-powered First Alert Z-Wave Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm helps protect your home and family from potential dangers. It is designed for improved compatibility with the Ring Alarm Security System and other certified Z-Wave systems, so you can be kept ...
Discontinued now it looks like. I just got them maybe two months ago.
They are good but doesn't support chain alerts.
I wouldn't really trust anything wireless for chain alerts and I'm too lazy to run wires for that.
Just doesn't seem worth it.
Mine are all wired
Even wired, only good for 10 years because of backup battery
They generally all want tossed every 10 years.
These take two AA's.
I wish I could silence these over z-wave.
I want to mount a couple in places I can't reach without a ladder but then I can't shut them up if they get a false alarm
I have not encountered false alarms. I have backup nest alarms in kitchen areas. I let the alarm company handle the fire alarms. Although I don't have a burger alarm system 😀
The one in my kitchen goes off sometimes.
on m y way
Why you wanna set a fire?
burgler
I don't have a burger alarm either. Would that protect against the hamburgler?
Nest is pretty good with dual sensors.
I don't even lock my doors. So any time
Swap all the inputs his hdmi cables are on
Oh boy that's not good. You can take anything here don't change the damn settings.
Ooh my zigbee development board is here.
Hours of calibration and if someone moves a speaker it would be the end.
Instead of screwing with settings just put some random resistors and capacitors on the speaker lines.
Yikes
Gotta tell the gate about you now. 🤣
@clever mortar turns out the lock is fine
It's just shitty battery housing design
I bootlegged it with some aluminum foil to make sure it was making contact and it fired right up
Guess I'll break out the soldering iron tomorrow and make a more permanent solution.
does anyone have any experience with OBS? I got a phone on the wall in each room with an nginx server so that media follows me around the house when I enter each room. Whatever Im watching on the Desktop pc just gets cast to whatever room is engaged BUT it's not yet seamless
yes
I use that to stream to nginx
and then the nginx server casts it to each Android device
the companion app then sends a notification to vlc to play the stream
What exactly are you trying to accomplish lol
Seems like a lot of steps
Is this some bootleg audio server? Lmao
@ashen parrot
im not trying to accomplish anything, it's already accomplished, but it's not yet fine tuned
and I already said
the point is that what Im watching on the PC gets cast to whatever room I enter
so that when I get up I dont have to pause, media just keeps playing
youtube, movies, songs, anything
and I don't think 3 is a lot of steps
the obs and the nginx are on the same computer, with the nginx only acting as a relay, using virtually no resources
now my problem is with the OBS
it crashes sometimes and I thought maybe someone has experience with the settings, to help me diagnose and fine tune
OBS is still a beta-ish software. Crashes can be expected. That being said what's powering the OBS?
Not very practical but a very neat concept indeed. I'd tinker with it lmao
the trigger is the door opening
in the last bit of the video you can see that dong
(I replaced it with a string and a card over the proximity sensor)
like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8dhSig0-7Y
when the door opens it pulls on the string
to lift the card over the proximity sensor
the OBS is powered by a low end machine, dual core processor with ddr2
(that's probably part of the problem) so I have all my settings set to low
Holy crap, the hello world build/flashing instructions for this Zigbee dev board I got are actively wrong in like a half-dozen places.
@brazen fable have you any idea how to correlate bitrate to buffer size? Im pretty sure I've narrowed it down to the amount of each of these but Im not quite sure how to pair them up. For instance right now I have 100ms buffer size with 4000 KB bit rate and the stream first plays but then instantly crashes the OBS
yeah it's trying to ramp up the encoding but that dinky little processor can't handle it
lol
DDR2 that's got to be like an old ass celeron or something right
Honestly you could build a decent specc'd machine to handle that for very little
e7500
or even get something like a used optiplex
got it overclocked at 4ghz
Look how cheap this machine is
am waiting for zen4 launch and rdna3
Intel better
iGPU is a powerhouse in a little chip
lol
For this application, intel is better
Same story with blue iris
iGPU does very well with video streaming
especially the 7k series onwards
zen4 has an igpu
no
cant be a trade mark
iGPU is intels IP
It's the name brand of their in house built in GPU on a chip
and it has built in crap for x264/x265
well, that may be, but what Im sayin is the new amd chips will have an integrated gpu too
Some AMD chips do have integrated graphics but that's not iGPU
and they don't perform nearly as well
in this specific application
you cant know that. they havent been released yet
Yes I can lol
And before you think anything about fanboy nonsense it's not
My main machine is a 5900x
wasnt thinking that
I've got another 3800x and like 3 8700ks
Where AMD shines is core count. But Intel has them beat again TBH
rdna 2
not a fanboy either, couldn't care less tbh, but I wouldnt even think of buying intel, the state they are in nowadays
idc, you know what I meant
Like Radeon vs Ge|Force
that's what matters
srsly? I don't know what to say to that
It's the truth
How powerful is Intel's dedicated quicksync/iGPU hardware acceleration? I've seen videos made where it can edit 4K video without much stutter and can be used to accelerate video encoding. Reason I'm asking is I'm building a remote render server and it's a NUC sized PC with a 8950HK which 6 cores ...
QuickSync will always give Intel the edge in this arena
anyway, can we go back to my initial question pls?
how to pair up buffer size with bitrate
No clue
not even sure that can be done automatically
lol
Don't think many people ever had a need for that
But what I do know is streaming from a really old machine definitely sounds painful. The software just wasn't built for that. I'm amazed you got it working
Basic Requirements OBS Studio requires the following hardware and operating systems to function. Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or …
I suppose if you wanted to, you could try and find a cheap 1050ti and use NVENC
I'm not even sure that'd work on your board though
lol
Another option might be not encoding at all and just using up a ton of internal bandwidth
unsure if your clients could handle that
am waiting for the new stuff bro, wouldn't really make sense getting old stuff right before launch
fair enough
that would actually suit me just fine
but its true about the clients
cos they dont all crash
just some
how old are those phones
They should be able to handle it fine then I think
Depends on if they were flagship or not
just one crashes, a huawei
yeah that's garbage phone
a cheap replacement that would be much better is a fire tablet
which is why I got it for free lol
ah I'm not seeing any options for uncompressed streaming on obs
RIP that idea
makes sense. Twitch wouldn't allow it anyway
nor would youtube
it has an option "use hardware browser accel"
when I click that, it starts to crash even harder
lol
I need to go the garbage tier route cos this is how I learn
If I got good gear, then I wouldnt even mind stuff like this and hence not learn anything
yeah i get that
I had to jack up my locks battery holder with aluminum foil today because the battery casing that came with the schlauge lock is dogshit
