Mando's entire schtick is that he's a dad guy and that's it.
Boba's having a full on life journey and then has to take a backseat to the guy who's only popular because he adopted the guy that sells merchandise.

Well the thing in the comics is that the young avengers realise they need more members, there was a whole thing with the skrulls. So vision looks through his previous versions younger avenger candidate files and suggests Tommy, who at the time was in jail for blowing up his school (his unique thing in that specific run was that he could run fast enough to make explosions. This was forgotten in basically every following story). They didn't realise he was identical to Billy until they broke him out
Then they learn from the super skrull that wanda had children, then from vision looking through his memories that they were her sons.
So I can see them reworking that a bit to fit
