I’m watching the Tales of the TARDIS segments finally as something to watch midway between The Giggle and the Christmas special. These are so wholesome and well done, and really would fit with RTD’s Doctorverse idea

I enjoyed the historicals of the first season but it's pretty clear the run could have been much better if he let Jodie be the Doctor instead of always having to react to things, it rarely does feel like she's in charge she even had to be saved by Jack Harkness from IIRC the same prison her wife used as a dormitory.

Most of Chibnall’s era I didn’t find dull tbh. And I liked how grounded the companions felt.

They weren’t the most important person ever or whatever, like Bad Wolf, Doctor Donna, The Girl Who Waited, The Impossible Girl, and so forth

It was really only four episodes and then Flux that I wasn’t really into

And this is not meant to say “this showrunner is better because X,” but I do find it fascinating that big things have leaked from these current specials, whereas I don’t recall anything leaking during the Chibby era other than Tennant’s return

Would it be wrong to say that this is my favorite ending to a Who Christmas Special

While there are some notable flaws with the special the ending ties everything together so wonderfully and serves as a great ending for both Twelve and the First Doctor

Also love how the Christmas Truce ties into Capaldi’s overall message of being kind

It’s funny because Capaldi’s Doctor spends a lot of the time in his first season wondering if he really is a good man only to end his run as one of the series’s most modest and morally competent.

It really would’ve been fine if the montage at the beginning of the movie simply began with the Seventh Doctor asleep in his chair and then he regenerates then, waking up as the Eighth Doctor. Narration could’ve explained what was going on and how he’s gotten to the end of a life cycle.
