one thing that really worked for me was getting an upgrade on stagecoach that allowed me to get free lvl three heroes every now and then

I'd only recruit them and no one else unless i needed like a healer

it skips a lot of hassle of leveling + wasting money on upgrading

and it also unlocks all their skills and whatnot

I didn't know low light can randomly spawn shamblers for the longest time

I play almost always low or no torch because it saves inv space and you get ++loot but as i progressed to the higher level dungeons i would keep getting fucked by shamblers who'd end party
