The CPU is usually the main worker when in the interface since it does pretty much everything, though usually it doesn't need to do much unless you are doing simulations / high poly displacements.

You'd want your GPU to be the main worker when rendering the actual image. The CPU will work fine, but is generally slower than an actual graphics card.

RAM (or Memory) basically stores all the data that Blender is using in an area that's easy to access, more RAM, more things to store. Simulations take up more RAM since Blender needs to store more data about it.

For simulations, more CPU power makes the simulation run faster, however more RAM allows you to create larger simulations. If you run out of memory, Blender doesn't like it, worst case scenario your computer crashes.

By the way, something you should learn, (that's also important for workflows) Get a reference scene for renders, that's what we call lookdev So you prepare an hdri, a cycle, two spheres : one diffuse only, one full metalness. It offers the possibility to understand how your asset is reacting to the light

That's how you proceed in VFX and CGI

Once you have your scene completed, you can save it as a reference scene. and you import your model in and you start shading your model.

Be sure to reuse the same lighting as the texturing phase's one. Prefer a studio HDRI, that's very neutral and good for reflecs
