I'm really excited for PyCon this year!
I wish I could go, but I'm heading to Seattle the weekend after
I will live vicariously through everyone that goes
shame it's not in Montreal anymore, then I could go
If work was nicer to me, I wish I could take that time off.
Yeah, I couldn't swing it this year with other goings on. Always next year... Have fun all of you that are attending!
I thought I was going, but couldn't fit it in. A shame since it is only 4 hours away...
@worldly wagon I'm hoping to sneak into the education summit π
@vital skiff you have to come and see @worldly wagon in action. (this was a message from the french "Josh" support team π )
Ahaha, thanks @random vale . I shall be sporting my MixTeen shirt on the way over!
I look forward to it!
@dreamy bane If you do this, I'll arrange to come to PyconUK just to bend the knee π
PyCon 2018 has a YouTube channel with all the talks -- today's talks are already uploaded.
Hello!
Hello!
looks like a heck of a party at pycon !
wishes he was in Cleve Land as Howard would say it
@frigid tinsel we filled the open spaces room that holds 48 people! everyone was trying their gemmas
So many people! And so many of them expanded past our quick-start examples into figuring out their own ideas for things to do with it.
yup!
yeah, the trick is getting them to understand what it is amongst all of the other stuff
A nice sea to be drowning in, though. ;)
totally
In a large group context, getting someone curious is more important than getting them to understand.
Understanding takes context and that's difficult in a mixed group.
Sounds like success. Congratulations to the CircuitPython team at Pycon!
oh, yes, still a success.
π
Thanks @vital skiff @kattni#1507 for the help and intro to the Gemma M0 at PyCon .
You're very welcome!
Last day for me at PyCon
It's been great
Thanks to @primal crane @vital skiff & @light flume for being so awesome
yay!
@worldly wagon Happy to hang out! Thanks for EduBlocks. I'm excited to work with you more!
No problem @vital skiff , I can't wait to see what people think of EduBlocks for CircuitPython
Yay!
@worldly wagon Great to meet you!
hey folks, is there a styleguide for errors/exceptions? i want to make sure i'm being a good citizen with the sprint thing i'm working on
@lethal sky Nope, any PR you'd like me to look at?
It got merged yesterday π
@vital skiff Where'd you end up today? I have a few minutes.
great @lethal sky !
Hello π Finally made it to Discord now that I am back in the UK π @vital skiff @primal crane @light flume Great to meet you all at PyCon π
@marble oriole Les! Glad you made it home safe. So great to meet you too!
Thanks @primal crane We had a 2hr delay at JFK, waiting on the tarmac as a traffic jam formed around us, but the pilots let me take over, given that I own a flying cap and goggles, and we got home only 30 minutes late π
You knew it would happen!
Instead of "is there a Dr on board?" it was more "Is there a self appointed pilot on board?" I raised my hand.
@marble oriole The music starts as you produce your hat and goggles from your bag...
@marble oriole I added you to CircuitPython helpers. You'll get notifications when we ping about the weekly.
Cool thanks π
Just plugged in the pycon gemma. IT COMES PRELOADED WITH EVERYTHING π π
Hi @worldly wagon I had a nap yesterday, then did a little swag curation before 10 hours of glorious sleep! How was school?
Ha, well. I was tired for most of the day and was wishing I was still at PyCon. Now I have tons of revision to do, YAY! @marble oriole
So @worldly wagon you need to get your head down, revise and get the exams out of the way before you do any major / serious work on projects. It may not sound like fun, but it is important! π
hi @marble oriole and @worldly wagon it was great to meet you
just finishing the sprints
Hi @vital skiff great to meet you too mate π Keep up the good work! Enjoy the sprints.
@marble oriole @worldly wagon Glad getting back wasn't too bad. Great to meet you and talk with you!
Same, it was great meeting you @light flume . Keep up the good work!
Thanks @light flume π Our plane was delayed but the pilot put his foot down π
US->EU is always a way worse time transition, than EU->US. "Must. Stay. Awake." π And, @marble oriole & @worldly wagon, glad you both got to meetup with the Adafruit team! Welcome!
Thanks @opal oxide π
Hey channel π A belated update as I wait for my flight! I did a handful of things with CircuitPython and the PyCon Gemma during the sprints, but the culmination ended up being a Morse Code tweeter! It went live at https://twitter.com/pycon_gemma, and the code is at https://github.com/katlings/pycon-gemma. There's also a video demo: https://streamable.com/xrdhn
I'd be interested in writing up some sort of guide about what I did and/or how I did it but don't really know where to start. @primal crane ?
@rancid phoenix That's so great! We loved your project!
I can get you started. Please send me an email at kattni@adafruit.com and we'll get you setup in our Learn System!
Watching the video now, that is so amazing.
@primal crane will do! thanks π and thanks again for the beautifully soldered pixel ring, I had a lot of fun working with it
@rancid phoenix I'm so glad! I was really proud of how they turned out. I'm glad we got them to happy making homes!
@rancid phoenix If you haven't already, make an account on adafruit.com and visit learn.adafruit.com while logged in. Then respond to the email from Justin. Thanks!
@rancid phoenix I can't tell you how excited I am to see you wanting to write guides!
@rancid phoenix It was so fun to actually tap out some morse code! Thanks so much for doing that project. I'd love to run that project on a gemma for my kids to see what long distance communications was like long ago. π Also maybe to practice on so I can get myself a HAM license.
@tropic lagoon Thanks! Definitely let me know if you decide to load it up! π
My first microcontroller project (8051-based) was a morse code keyer; I added some glue code to make it a general purpose input routine (typing in morse code instead of at a standard keyboard).
So it's a device that recognizes an iambic keyer paddle keying sequence as regular ASCII input.
Obviously provides a side-tone during input. ;)
that is pretty cool
This is so cool yβall
well...how is PyCon going!? Here's to hoping you're all having waaay too much fun to post!!
@opal oxide It's amazing! I did my tutorial for Microsoft yesterday, and apparently it was brilliant. Having a ton of fun. π
Yes, that is true @opal oxide. Iβve posting to Twitter a bunch, which is usually retweeted by Adafruit, so follow Adafruit for more updates.
yay! @primal crane glad to hear the MS tut was "brilliant"! and ahh...the tweeter twitter; i'm never there but that makes sense. π
where did people get those rgb led screens? also, project idea: a Morse code translator that emulates keyboard input from Morse audio
has anyone made a Simon says game yet for the playground? that'd be fun too
I don't know which RGB LED screens you meant, but many people sell a variety of RGB LED matrices like this one https://www.adafruit.com/product/1484
It was a blast!
@lapis basin I made one using my own basic game engine: https://github.com/jreese/playground/blob/master/circuitpython/cpx/simon.py
just need to copy cpgame.py over, and then copy simon.py to your main.py/code.py
it also has sound on by default, which can be toggled with either of the digital buttons
PyCon 2019 CircuitPython Sprints Link here: http://bit.ly/circuitpython-pycon2019-sprint Welcome! Weβre excited that you want to help with CircuitPython. Scott, aka @tannewt, is live with you there at the sprints. If he is busy and you have questions, please hop into the A...
π
I see the channel has been rechristened for pycon 2020 π
i'm registered!
I just submitted my circuitpython-related talk. π€ π€
good luck @wary mica !
I got mine in early this year. π
π I'll probably submit the circuitpython 101 talk I prepped for pycascades already
My talk was accepted. π
"Controlling the world of modular synthesizers using CircuitPython"
@wary mica Congrats!
Thank you! I'm so excited to talk about CircuitPython.
& how awesome it is. & How awesome this community is.
Congratulations
Aw. I am so excited to see your talk as PyCascades, though!
@vital skiff if/when you go to .au, I hope you can stay and sightsee. It was a very memorable trip when I went, and in 6 weeks I only scratched the surface...
@wary mica awesome!
@dire zinc I probably won't stay too long this time. Becca is staying here and it's in August when it's nice here.
In light of the exciting PyCon CLUE cornucopia, I'd like to suggest an upgrade to the standard (but so passΓ©) lanyard. π
https://us.pycon.org/2020/schedule/talks/ for most of the time slots I have a clear favorite talk, but a few present tough choices π
We expected it was coming, but PyCon 2020 has officially been canceled.
It sounds like rather than trying to do a remote conference, they will put content that would have been seen at PyCon on youtube piecemeal. https://pycon.blogspot.com/2020/03/pycon-us-2020-in-pittsburgh.html
The PSFβs priority is the health and safety of the community and the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic has made it unsafe to hold PyCon US th...
The organizers will send an email offering options to help you present your talks, tutorials, special events, and posters to the community, if you want to, via our publicly available PyCon US 2020 YouTube channel.
The PSF will continue regular operations including providing PyCon talks via YouTube, maintaining core Python infrastructure and Python Package Index, the grants program, and other community support.
It would have been nice to see a remote conference -- I'd be able to attend that without issue. And the channel-based discussion on the OHS's discord was really slick.
But at least we'll see the content in some form.
Just saw from the awesome @prisma spoke on twitter that Microsoft still have a [virtual] booth for pycon2020.
https://twitter.com/nnja/status/1275965637123117057
Missed out on @PyCon US in person this year?
Our team at Microsoft already had some swag in the works.
Check out our Microsoft virtual booth experience at https://t.co/JCHCN5rsSG and complete a hands-on lab to get a kit, while supplies last.
The clippy scrunchie is π₯π₯
Thanks for sharing! Please get your swag and enter the giveaway. I designed the socks and scrunchie π
One of the giveaway items is an LED crossbody bag, compatible with microbit and CLUE.
I should post some photos of it.
is it too late?
@fervent mortar -take a look at https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-circuitpython
