I'm really excited for PyCon this year!

jolly viper
#

I wish I could go, but I'm heading to Seattle the weekend after

#

I will live vicariously through everyone that goes

sage sentinel
#

shame it's not in Montreal anymore, then I could go

uncut shard
#

If work was nicer to me, I wish I could take that time off.

opal oxide
#

Yeah, I couldn't swing it this year with other goings on. Always next year... Have fun all of you that are attending!

muted bay
#

I thought I was going, but couldn't fit it in. A shame since it is only 4 hours away...

worldly wagon
#

I'm gonna be doing one of the keynotes at the Education Summit

#

Anyone going?

vital skiff
#

@worldly wagon I'm hoping to sneak into the education summit πŸ˜ƒ

random vale
#

@vital skiff you have to come and see @worldly wagon in action. (this was a message from the french "Josh" support team πŸ˜ƒ )

worldly wagon
#

Ahaha, thanks @random vale . I shall be sporting my MixTeen shirt on the way over!

vital skiff
#

I look forward to it!

random vale
#

@dreamy bane If you do this, I'll arrange to come to PyconUK just to bend the knee πŸ˜‰

Hello!

#

Hello!

frigid tinsel
#

looks like a heck of a party at pycon !

untold zinc
#

wishes he was in Cleve Land as Howard would say it

vital skiff
#

@frigid tinsel we filled the open spaces room that holds 48 people! everyone was trying their gemmas

primal crane
#

So many people! And so many of them expanded past our quick-start examples into figuring out their own ideas for things to do with it.

vital skiff
#

yup!

robust sparrow
#

'their' gemmas . ;)

#

Sounds like a kid's birthday party with favors!

vital skiff
#

yeah, the trick is getting them to understand what it is amongst all of the other stuff

robust sparrow
#

A nice sea to be drowning in, though. ;)

vital skiff
#

totally

woeful lodge
#

In a large group context, getting someone curious is more important than getting them to understand.

#

Understanding takes context and that's difficult in a mixed group.

stoic gorge
#

Sounds like success. Congratulations to the CircuitPython team at Pycon!

woeful lodge
#

oh, yes, still a success.

You're very welcome!

#

Last day for me at PyCon

#

It's been great

#

Thanks to @primal crane @vital skiff & @light flume for being so awesome

frigid tinsel
#

yay!

vital skiff
#

@worldly wagon Happy to hang out! Thanks for EduBlocks. I'm excited to work with you more!

worldly wagon
#

No problem @vital skiff , I can't wait to see what people think of EduBlocks for CircuitPython

vital skiff
#

Yay!

light flume
#

@worldly wagon Great to meet you!

lethal sky
#

hey folks, is there a styleguide for errors/exceptions? i want to make sure i'm being a good citizen with the sprint thing i'm working on

vital skiff
#

@lethal sky Nope, any PR you'd like me to look at?

lethal sky
#

It got merged yesterday 😎

primal crane
#

@vital skiff Where'd you end up today? I have a few minutes.

vital skiff
#

great @lethal sky !

marble oriole
#

Hello πŸ˜ƒ Finally made it to Discord now that I am back in the UK πŸ˜ƒ @vital skiff @primal crane @light flume Great to meet you all at PyCon πŸ˜ƒ

primal crane
#

@marble oriole Les! Glad you made it home safe. So great to meet you too!

marble oriole
#

Thanks @primal crane We had a 2hr delay at JFK, waiting on the tarmac as a traffic jam formed around us, but the pilots let me take over, given that I own a flying cap and goggles, and we got home only 30 minutes late πŸ˜„

primal crane
#

You knew it would happen!

marble oriole
#

Instead of "is there a Dr on board?" it was more "Is there a self appointed pilot on board?" I raised my hand.

primal crane
#

@marble oriole The music starts as you produce your hat and goggles from your bag...

#

@marble oriole I added you to CircuitPython helpers. You'll get notifications when we ping about the weekly.

marble oriole
#

Cool thanks πŸ˜ƒ

#

Just plugged in the pycon gemma. IT COMES PRELOADED WITH EVERYTHING 😍 πŸ˜‚

worldly wagon
#

Hey @marble oriole !

#

Recovered from jetlag?

marble oriole
#

Hi @worldly wagon I had a nap yesterday, then did a little swag curation before 10 hours of glorious sleep! How was school?

worldly wagon
#

Ha, well. I was tired for most of the day and was wishing I was still at PyCon. Now I have tons of revision to do, YAY! @marble oriole

marble oriole
#

So @worldly wagon you need to get your head down, revise and get the exams out of the way before you do any major / serious work on projects. It may not sound like fun, but it is important! πŸ˜„

vital skiff
#

hi @marble oriole and @worldly wagon it was great to meet you

#

just finishing the sprints

marble oriole
#

Hi @vital skiff great to meet you too mate πŸ˜ƒ Keep up the good work! Enjoy the sprints.

light flume
#

@marble oriole @worldly wagon Glad getting back wasn't too bad. Great to meet you and talk with you!

worldly wagon
#

Same, it was great meeting you @light flume . Keep up the good work!

marble oriole
#

Thanks @light flume πŸ˜ƒ Our plane was delayed but the pilot put his foot down πŸ˜‰

opal oxide

US->EU is always a way worse time transition, than EU->US. "Must. Stay. Awake." πŸ˜„ And, @marble oriole & @worldly wagon, glad you both got to meetup with the Adafruit team! Welcome!

Thanks @opal oxide πŸ˜ƒ

#

I'd be interested in writing up some sort of guide about what I did and/or how I did it but don't really know where to start. @primal crane ?

primal crane
#

@rancid phoenix That's so great! We loved your project!

#

I can get you started. Please send me an email at kattni@adafruit.com and we'll get you setup in our Learn System!

#

Watching the video now, that is so amazing.

rancid phoenix
#

@primal crane will do! thanks πŸ˜ƒ and thanks again for the beautifully soldered pixel ring, I had a lot of fun working with it

primal crane
#

@rancid phoenix I'm so glad! I was really proud of how they turned out. I'm glad we got them to happy making homes!

primal crane
#

@rancid phoenix If you haven't already, make an account on adafruit.com and visit learn.adafruit.com while logged in. Then respond to the email from Justin. Thanks!

vital skiff
#

@rancid phoenix I can't tell you how excited I am to see you wanting to write guides!

tropic lagoon
#

@rancid phoenix It was so fun to actually tap out some morse code! Thanks so much for doing that project. I'd love to run that project on a gemma for my kids to see what long distance communications was like long ago. πŸ˜ƒ Also maybe to practice on so I can get myself a HAM license.

rancid phoenix
#

@tropic lagoon Thanks! Definitely let me know if you decide to load it up! πŸ˜„

robust sparrow
#

My first microcontroller project (8051-based) was a morse code keyer; I added some glue code to make it a general purpose input routine (typing in morse code instead of at a standard keyboard).

#

So it's a device that recognizes an iambic keyer paddle keying sequence as regular ASCII input.

#

Obviously provides a side-tone during input. ;)

@dire zinc I probably won't stay too long this time. Becca is staying here and it's in August when it's nice here.

We expected it was coming, but PyCon 2020 has officially been canceled.

#

The organizers will send an email offering options to help you present your talks, tutorials, special events, and posters to the community, if you want to, via our publicly available PyCon US 2020 YouTube channel.
The PSF will continue regular operations including providing PyCon talks via YouTube, maintaining core Python infrastructure and Python Package Index, the grants program, and other community support.

It would have been nice to see a remote conference -- I'd be able to attend that without issue. And the channel-based discussion on the OHS's discord was really slick.

But at least we'll see the content in some form.
