http://www.mcnicholsbuilding.com/events/calendar << ain't no summit listed on their events calendar....wonder why?
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
i emailed summit@oshwa.org about it, no big deal i guess but every little bit helps
I think OSHWA might quality as a "private event": http://www.mcnicholsbuilding.com/private-events-rentals
anyone here local to the denver area? suggestions on best parking? I'm looking at denver post or the lot next door.
i'd take the bus but i'm clear up in longmont
anyone in denver the day before OHS and likes hiking, I'm planning to try hitting a 14er nearby if conditions are good. quandary peak vs. east ridge route: https://www.14ers.com/route.php?route=quan1&peak=Quandary+Peak
it's late season so expect snow, ice, and wind but it's not a technical route and has low exposure.. there are a couple steep bits though, so definitely a workout ๐ starts at 11k feet and ascends 3200 more or so in about 3 miles
plan to bring some gear though like hiking boots, lots of layers, etc. snow in forecast
I lived in Granby, CO for a few years. Sounds like a lot of fun. I miss having places like that to hike, but after being a flatlander for so long, that altitude would probably just wreck me. ๐
@willow leaf There's a good hike from Estes Park to the summit of Pike's Peak. If you want to go technical you can traverse out onto the NE face on a route called The Flame....
@blazing jungle I lived just across the pass from Estes Park via Trail Ridge road....well, in the summer. In the winter we had to go the long way around. That is a gorgous area.
@earnest yoke One of my favorite areas!
They could also do Long's, but that's more of an effort from Denver.
@willow leaf level up. go for elbert. ๐
oh i'm thinking of hiking quandary peak on wednesday, it's a 14er that's 2 hours from denver. start at 11k feet or so and hike roughly a mailbox or mt. si level of distance and effort up to peak https://www.14ers.com/route.php?route=quan1&peak=Quandary+Peak
i'm brining all my rainier gear though and layers.. it's going to be snow and cold
er bringing
I would, of course, be inclined to hike many rugged miles in the wilderness and to wrestle at least one grizzly, but my flight doesn't get to Denver until the afternoon, so my thoughts are inclined more to dinner and perhaps a visit to Denhac. Is there anything else I should be looking to do in Denver on Wednesday evening?
I get in at 1:25pm so I'm looking for things to do Wednesday evening as well.
@acoustic storm when do you get in?
about 6pm MDT, looks like
kk, I'm in a bit earlier. I'm considering organizing a meet up so we can all go out to dinner
sounds great!
(I'm booked thursday for dinner but other folks can organize something here.)

At System76 still then going to ART
yeah I hiked a 14er today.. it was amazing. hard work (gusts of wind to 30mph above 12k feet.. it was hard to walk at times) but worth it. the views up there were just out of this world
ran into a couple at the summit that brought a sign and took my pic ๐
when and where is the drinks event?

just a heads up, if you (your company, employer, etc.) is interested in sponsoring Open Hardware Summit, i'd encourage you to do that sooner than later so there's time to get your logo on all the materials: https://2020.oshwa.org/sponsor/

BREAKING NEWS
The 2020 Summit will be moved online. Please stand by in the coming hours for more information:
welp.
Such is life. Totally understandable given the situation. I was looking forward to seeing many folks in person.
But now it's close enough for me to attend.
Likewise here -- I work in NYC daily. And since MakerFaire NYC doesn't seem like it'll happen anytime soon, it's hard to get meetups with those from outside the tri-state region.
And then there's the cool conference badge and other sweet swag ๐
True, I did meet you at MakerFaire one year.
We'll see what their plans are, and take it from there. I feel bad for them -- they skipped last year, this is their 10th anniversary...and now circumstances out of their control force it to this.
I wonder what we can do to help them through it, other than giving them our support and enjoying the event they put on, in whatever form it takes.
I'll see if they offer last-minute entry to the now-virtual convention, for those people like me who weren't able to travel and hadn't planned on attending.
We (OSHWA) will be emailing everyone via Eventribte by end of today. We are going to send the bags to ticket holders who fill out a form with their information.
We are switching to an all-virtual summit for 2020. We are coordinating with speakers to move all presentations to streaming online video. You can expect a schedule similar to the one we have already announced, as well as a robust set of online chat options for the community to discuss the dayโs events.
We also still plan on holding the pre-party happy hour the evening of March 12 for community members who are in NYC. The happy hour is free to anyone who is able to attend. If you are in the area we look forward to seeing you there. However, we do not recommend traveling to NYC just for the happy hour.
We continue to offer full refunds on tickets to anyone who has purchased tickets to the Summit. Contact info@oshwa.org for more details.
We will be sending full swag bags to all ticket holders.
Next yearโs summit will be in NYC again on April 9, 2021. Mark your calendars!
@warm cedar I've submitted the form (with a slight hiccup with the name in use) --- let me know if y'all have any questions with that issue.
fyi -There will be email going out to eventbrite users today
The Eventbrite ticket page has a "donation for a virtual summit" category now. Does that register people to attend the online event if they weren't signed up before?
hello, I'm an OSHWA board member and I will ask our team
things are evolving quickly and we get daily internal updates to our OSHWA board mailing list
I believe we are essentially going to be use the same setup that adafruit does, Streamyard... but exact details are to be announced
Update:
It's just a donation button because we were getting people who wanted to give to OSHWA even though we went virtual. I think people understand the link will be public, there is no "registration" because it's a public feed. . The donation is just if they feel like supporting OSHWA. I think the people who bought a ticket understand that they don't need to donate on top of their ticket price.
Great! For what it's worth, it was definitely not obvious (to me) that the event will be public.
thanks for the feedback
That's totally a standup thing y'all are doing, making the event virtually open to all regardless if they've registered.
Better yet, it seems to have started a trend, and I'm seeing other conferences follow your lead.
A list of all the companies WFH or events changed because of covid-19
New OSHWA-hosted discord: https://discord.gg/qJ7HcWn
thanks for the link @keen cloak
We will have channels in there for different things during the summit
Also, just to make sure everyone knows, it will be a public stream for the summit
You don't need a ticket to watch it
We will likely be using stream yard and YouTube like Adafruit
the Open Hardware Summit livestream link will be updated on https://2020.oshwa.org/ the day of the Summit (Friday, 13th March 2020).
https://discord.gg/38C57Uf
for those interested in the wrist badge,
we started "#badge-hacking" channel
the Open Hardware Summit livestream link will be updated on https://2020.oshwa.org/ the day of the Summit (Friday, 13th March 2020).
@warm cedar @plucky prairie can you pin this?
pinned the first message @warm cedar
Just a reminder that the stream is going! You can find all info on https://2020.oshwa.org/
This morning was packed with good talks
It was great. Still listening, but skipped the speaker with the birds yapping in the background.
I will admit, it was distracting -- but it was a very good talk.
Join OSHWA this Wednesday, April 22nd, at 1:00 PM MDT (3:00 PM EDT / 12:00 PM PDT / 7:00 PM UTC) for a live virtual talk:
Title: Open Source Nostalgia
Speaker: Libi Rose Striegl
Using open source projects to enable modern use of retro-tech is a foundational part of my art practice. Open source practices are a central part of my teaching. This forms a base for art and teaching around technology that is empowering and joyful while still coming from a place of critical learning.
It will stream live on the OSHWA YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_V6IvwN25x7fyaOCfMrHfg
