The answer sheet says V(R2) = 36V, but that parallel current source makes me confused as to what’s actually happening in the circuit?

stone orbit
#

The current source is forcing 1mA through R2.

wispy granite
#

it's easier to think of using superposition, where you look at the contribution of each source separately. calculate the voltage from v_s (with i_s replaced by an open circuit) and the voltage from i_s (with v_s replaced by a short circuit). sum for the answer

Dang, China is looking at banning rare earth metal exports

tardy badger
#

Yeah

#

US and Australia have the largest rare earth mining capabilities, but 4/5 of refineries are in China

#

They want to retaliate against the US

stone orbit
#

It's time we fixed that problem. Rare earths are required for national defense so we are just going to have to build up our capability.
Probably in the next administration.

tardy badger
#

It’s vital to green energy so it would hopefully make sense for Biden to support building up that capacity

One can hope anyway

Question for a personal project - I have a boatload of MP3 audio recordings of conversations I've been asked if it's possible to transcribe automatically, just so there's a rough idea of the content of the recording.

Is there any free or one-time-purchase software anyone would recommend to accomplish this task? Like I mentioned, it doesn't have to be perfect -- just transcript that'd be referenced at a quick glance.

Pay-per-hour conversion services aren't ideal, as there are too many to reasonable do and the budget for this is thin.

#

@sterile walrus Thank you -- I'll check them out

For the "smart" TVs, it would be nice if the smart were completely bypassable. As in, leave it off (never connect) the network, no need to "update firmware" because it just works (tm)

tardy badger

smart tvs can generally work that way, but someone will usually find an excuse to feed it your wifi credentials anyway

and that doesn't make their awful interfaces any snappier or load any faster

Those fruit descriptions remind me of the Golden Kiwi that have been in and out of my local Costco for a bit.

But also, one I'd really like to try, and I swear I'm not crazy (in my personal opinion backed by nobody), is durian. The "I'm not crazy" part applies to me preparing it!

dusty citrus

Has there been a series of accusations of craziness, based on fruit consumption patterns, in behavior .. as of late?

tardy badger
#

environmental factors influence how it crystalizes 🙂

velvet pelican
#

Ahh mine also never said pure honey on it... thats partly why I figured it wasn’t pure anyways. Also had a farmer tell me that they add sugar alot of times to make it go further

tardy badger
#

some brands do

#

but adding sugar doesn't necessarily make it not honey. Honey is sucrose and fructose, so adding more sucrose doesn't hurt. sometimes it helps bring prices down for the average consumer

velvet pelican

it also helps during times where honey production is affected by local climate abnormalities

do people say Too-Pull or Tuh-Pull for Tuple?

proven juniper
#

@velvet pelican The idea is to then epoxy and layer it, pretty much like you would with fiberglass.

#

That is also part of what would make it transparent, where the wood and the epoxy should have the same reflective index, so light that passes through it, will travel in the same direction, just like it does on glass.

velvet pelican
#

Hmm interesting. Ive heard epoxy for countertops doesnt last all that long not sure about other types

sonic prism
#

I say tuple

quartz rune
#

lol, helpful 😛

proven juniper
#

Yes, there is great variety in epoxy compounds, as well as the material that you use to make a composite. But most space stuff (let's say, spacex new huge fuel tanks) is made by building composite materials. It could be fiberglass, kevlar, carbon fiber, etc.

velvet pelican
#

Interesting ive never looked that deep into that as ive never had a use for it thus far

proven juniper
#

Also, working with fiberglass or carbon fiber is a pain. Their weird, toxic, abrasive, etc. But having it with transparent wood, would just be a blast.

sonic prism
#

well I say it in french 😛

burnt tendon

I keep feeling like it's almost, but not quite, like a sheet of epoxy.

sonic prism

#

but, like, with a T

quartz rune

sonic prism
#

twople is popular too I think

proven juniper
#

@burnt tendon It's kinda like cement vs concrete. Just plain cement is quite brittle and useless. But with sand and aggregates it can become tough and last for 1k's of years.
With composites, it's quite important the grain of the fiber, how thick it is, what it's made off, and that ends up affecting the end product.

#

So, if it works it would be interesting not only for the cute optical properties, but also it's nice to experiment with the transparent wood to see what can be achieved.

#

Oh, and probably, way cheaper and carbon negative.

twin pier
#

How is it more carbon negative if it's wood stripped off and then embedded in synthetic material

#

Is it because it's upcycled? Or because it lasts longer? Wood lasts pretty long

proven juniper
#

@twin pier If we compare it to concrete, it requires to burn minerals for quite a long time. If it's glass, it needs high temps to melt.
In the case of wood you are capturing carbon from the atmosphere and encasing it in epoxy should last quite a long time. I would like to replace the epoxy as well with something else, but one step at a time.

#

@sterile walrus Great to hear. If you or your colleges end up replicating any of it, please let me know how it ended. It sounds to good to be so easy to make.

#

And BTW, if someone wants to see a master of building with fiber glass, there's a couple of canoes that Xyla Foxlin has build this last year. One as a re-enforcement, and transparent one with neopixels.

proven juniper
#

@sterile walrus The people from the youtube channel "how to make everything", recently made something quite funny and it seemed to work just fine (against low velocity like 9mm) which was melting obsidian glass, when that happens it foams up, and then they used that weird glass foam to make a vest.

# ocean sigil The limited choices for rad-hard processors....https://www.theverge.com/tldr/202...

Well, what could a more powerful processor do for you in space anyway? Communication throughput is the main bottleneck, they already take lots of photos they don't plan to transmit, just in case something fails stopping them from taking more, then they will send the extras, to try to pull more science out of them. More power means more energy use, smaller components in the chips and memory means more incidences of radiation/cosmic rays causing random bit flips. Then they are always going to be years behind the latest tech because it has to be proven reliable for years.

Mass and power are huge constraints for most space missions. As noted by @fathom relic many missions can get by with very limited processor capability. I worked on several science missions and the biggest limitation was getting the data to the ground. There is a major trade off in doing on-board processing versus getting raw data to the ground. If you process it "on board" you often can't recover the original data if you decide to look for something different. Our mission opted to use on-board algorithms to select the "best"data and send it. A lot of data is "boring" so we would only send the "good stuff".

I use an app called wifi analyzer on my phone to see what channel to pick for router. Letting the router select seems to work really poorly. Usually I find that half the neighbors are all on the same channel, most of the rest are spread between the other 2 useful ones, and someone with a strong signal picked a random one in between that overlaps one of the end channels and the middle one. Since with 2.4 ghz you only really want 1, 6, or 11 because of channel overlap. I find that routers seem to pick channels the same as one of the strongest neighbors signal for some reason, and manually picking a channel can solve problems.

@dusty citrus looking at your notes, it looks like you use picoterm to upload your .fs files with new FORTH words. Is that correct? Just curious.

dusty citrus
#

@ocean sigil In my launch script it looks like this:

picocom -e \\ -f n -p n -d 8 -b 115200 --omap delbs,lfcr --send-cmd "ascii-xfr -s -l 50 -c 3" ${1}

The -l 50 is pacing by line and -c 3 is pacing by character - I adjust to local conditions depending on how reliable the target is, at processing input. ;)

Here's the full script I ran just last night:

https://termbin.com/q4mz

#

You can adjust what word boots very easily, and have to TURNKEY the result. I usually boot a 'signon' word. ;) Must 0 ERASE_SECTOR (and I usually iterate to at least 1 ERASE_SECTOR up to 3 ERASE_SECTOR if I have a full house. Only then, TURNKEY.

#

I usually create lower case aliases for common stack manipulation words:

#
: dup DUP ; : drop DROP ; : swap SWAP ;
#

As long as you have a space (between definitions) you can define more than one colon definition word per line, out to the 84 character terminal input buffer limit.

#

Comments are bracketed by ( comment here in parens ) or also a leading backslash, iirc:

( this is a comment )
\ this also is a comment
: dup DUP ; \ this is a comment
#

I don't remember; I check existing work instead of remembering the rules. ;)

#

Basic TURNKEY:

\ ' signon 1 + 'BOOT ! 0 ERASE_SECTOR TURNKEY
#

(I keep that in a comment - and type it by hand for timing's sake.)

#

TURNKEY basically re-images flashROM from the live SRAM image, byte for byte - no changes anywhere.

#

So for example, Ting's DUMP word uses underscores for non-printables, but I like this better:

: newchar> 2E 900 ! ; \ location 900 has the underscore for the tochar word
\ upstream used 5F not 2E there.
\ >CHAR is that word and is stored near location 900 in RAM
#

That only changes the SRAM version; after a TURNKEY it's permanent throughout. ;)

ocean sigil
#

@dusty citrus thank you for for all the info. Lots to learn!

dusty citrus
#

;) You're very welcome!

#

Oh by the way, the VB pin on STM32F407 Discovery is tied to 3.3VDC so it's not VBUS.

#

When I (externally) power Black Pill STM32F411 I use one of its 5V pins from an USB upstream source (CP2104's 5V pin).

ocean sigil
#

Thanks. I have to go offline for a few hours. Will get back to this later or tomorrow.

dusty citrus

velvet pelican

Any of ya here use a safety razor for shaving?

quartz rune
#

I switched to electric as I've found it to be less messy

stone orbit
#

@velvet pelican Safety razor in the shower. Electric out of the shower. Don't get backwards.

hasty quarry
#

Tibetan Mastiff

#

No context, just Tibetan Mastiff

velvet pelican
# quartz rune I used to

What kind did ya use? I just got a replica of the gillette fatboy and man that blade angle adjustment is the best

#

@stone orbit ^ also same question

quartz rune
#

Errrrm I think it's a merkur knockoff

velvet pelican
#

I started out with a vanderhagen

quartz rune
#

I still use merkur blades

velvet pelican
#

It has a pretty tight blade gap so i was researching and found the one i just got with the adjustable blade gap... with my other one i could get a clean shave 2-3 passes but with this it only takes one pass

quartz rune
#

I tried a cheap shavette once, just once though. They are tough to use

velvet pelican
#

I thought about trying a straight blade but a buddy advised against it due to possible personal injury

quartz rune
#

that was my painful experience. It was a very close shave though

velvet pelican
#

Yeah i can imagine

quartz rune
#

it's why it's called a safety razor actually! You probs knew that

velvet pelican
dusty citrus
#

<@&327289013561982976>

velvet pelican
#

Yeah this one on level 9 feels like a straight one

#

@dusty citrus ?

proven olive
dusty citrus
#

Just doesn't seem appropriate to me.

real falcon

offtopic

dusty citrus

it's razors, it's guns .. a theme.

quartz rune
#

I'm happy to knock it off, I've said everything I can think of saying

real falcon
#

what the?

proven olive
# dusty citrus it's razors, it's guns .. a theme.

Razors and guns are very different things, and the conversation also has a very different tone than the one last night. There's no insults, threats, or anything else that would be against the code of conduct. And, as mentioned, this is the offtopic channel so it's the appropriate place for such discussions.

dusty citrus
#

I wasn't litigating. I thought it worth your looking at.

real falcon
#

and nowhere did guns come in at all today

proven olive
real falcon
#

I know. thats why I said today. 🙂

proven olive
velvet pelican
#

Even though it was taken as something not good last night in no way was anything i said last night meant to be offensive.

real falcon
#

okay. didnt start with it today but yeah

proven olive
#

We don't need to worry about last night's conversation. We can leave that at last night, it's been dealt with.

velvet pelican
#

Im just letting nis know

#

Since he wasn’t in on what else was said to me personally

proven olive
dusty citrus
#

Yeah I'm not very nuanced with that. ;)

quartz rune
#

I'm happy to take a PM if I've said anything that bothers anyone, last thing I want to do

dusty citrus
#

I did not expect a public conversation.

sick adder
#

@proven olive (however, we have also said to mention the role, as you don't know who is actually active as a moderator at a particular moment.)

velvet pelican
#

Also if you have any issues with anything i say dont be afraid to address me. I dont want to make anyone uneasy for any reason as thats not my style

sick adder
#

Well now that we've completely derailed the conversation for y'all...

velvet pelican
#

Meh 😂 it happens

quartz rune
#

discord is a stream of consciousness

dusty citrus
#

Hey I probably just overstepped. I really can't tell.

proven olive
#

So I think we can wrap this up with "Let people know if they're bothering you, you can always DM a mod if you have questions, and you can also ping us if you're not sure if any of us are around."

#

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm going to get myself a bowl of ice cream.

sick adder
#

I already had dessert. It was a brownie

quartz rune
#

banana

real falcon
#

hey hey law of realms, menion ice cream, must share with everyone

velvet pelican
proven olive
velvet pelican
#

Ahh lol whats your preference?

quartz rune
#

I wasn't asked, but Caramel/Vanilla

velvet pelican
#

Oo there is a waffle cone kind that I enjoy

#

Could probably about eat the whole tub in a sitting so i have to not buy it very often

quartz rune
#

I have food allergies so for most of my life ice cream has been....untasty, but last 10 years or so it's gotten better and with the advent of oat milk ice cream it's heavenly

proven olive
#

And the winner is: Chocolate/Peanut Butter. One of my favorites.

velvet pelican
#

Depending on how much peanutbutter that can be pretty good

quartz rune
#

well, frozen sugar isn't UNtasty, but it's definitely improved

proven olive
quartz rune
#

Yeah! Oat is better

#

oatmilk itself is meh, but oatmilk icecream (or at least one brand) is great

#

or Oatjuice to be more accurate 😛

velvet pelican
#

Hm ill have to try it sometime if i see it

quartz rune
#

local health food store will have it

velvet pelican
#

Ive also had the coconut ones

#

My daughter was allergic to milk for a while

quartz rune
#

oat milk is supposed to be the most sustainable of the plant milks

proven olive
#

I found coconute ice cream to be absurdly tough. A few times I'd microwave it a little bit to get it soft enough to eat

quartz rune
#

I feel like a shill for big oat, but oat milk icecream is real soft and creamy

velvet pelican
proven olive
#

Flavor was nice, but I also love coconut. But I don't want to have to break out a chisel and hammer to eat it

sick adder
#

@velvet pelican no, it was from a local restaurant

dusty citrus
#

I gave up on right out of the freezer. I put the ice cream in the refrigerator for a half an hour before I take a spoon to it. ;)

#

(too many bent spoons)

proven olive
#

I have bent more than one spoon on hard ice cream. Always annoying

dusty citrus
#

I finally bought a proper ice cream scoop at the supermarket - can really lean into it. ;)

quartz rune
#

speaking of the kitchen, I can't recommend a sous vide enough, if you have the room. I got one on sale and food has never been better.

#

you can also attach it to a pot if room is a concern and I get by without a vacuum sealer

dusty citrus
#

I got one of those manual coffee grinders Hario Skerton I think it's called.

quartz rune
#

I'm too impatient

dusty citrus
#

I wanted to find out personally what the deal was on grinding coffee by hand.

tardy badger
#

I need to pick up some ice cream from the store at some point

dusty citrus
#

I get one ice cream delivery every 2 weeks with the groceries. That's 13 days without ice cream, on a regular schedule. ;)

tardy badger
#

In terms of dairy ice cream, Tillamook is definitely the brand that tastes the best overall for me

#

And surprisingly for a soft ice cream, their vanilla varieties doesn’t bother my lactose/milk allergies like other brands

sick adder
#

Tillamook has some good products

tardy badger
#

I love there extra sharp cheddar

tardy badger
quartz rune
#

You will never want to grill a steak again, except maybe to sear after cooking it in the sous vide

#

Mushrooms are incredible

tardy badger
#

I imagine myself doing a nice sous vide duck curry

quartz rune
#

carrots are great too

dusty citrus
#

I wouldn't mind one of those rotisserie chicken home cooking appliances ;)

quartz rune
#

dang I'm hungry

tardy badger
#

Haha

#

I had “grilled” chicken salad for dinner

velvet pelican
dusty citrus
#

My brother solved most of their kitchen grease problem by cooking literally everything in a gas grill out on the porch.

#

They grill in winter with a foot of snow on the deck.

tardy badger
#

I found some nice rib eye the other day that I plan on cooking stove top

#

I’ve got a well seasoned cast iron skillet that does wonders

burnt wave
#

I love being summoned for... ice cream.

#

Nice.

velvet pelican
quartz rune
burnt wave
#

Heh, there was a lot of nice ice cream to get in Seattle.

#

I kinda miss that. Atlanta's selection is no where near as awesome.

velvet pelican
#

😂 alot of people say that till they move here and live through six months of rain. This year has been especially wet

quartz rune
#

I grew up there 😛

dusty citrus
#

I have to have blue skies a significant number of days each year.

quartz rune
#

and not dark at 4PM in the winter?

dusty citrus
#

;)

velvet pelican
#

Yeah seasonal depression is a big thing here

burnt wave
#

yeah it was never the rain that got to me in Seattle, it was always the darkness

dusty citrus
#

If I live somewhere where people report a UFO sighting and it turns out to be .. the Sun .. that's not good for me. ;)

quartz rune
#

it's oppressive. Coffee only helps so much

#

Beautiful in the summer though, hands down can't be beat IMO

velvet pelican
#

Lol i live on coffee this time of year. The infant doesnt help with my sleep schedule either

dusty citrus
#

I think people were nomads for a good reason. ;)

quartz rune
#

we just followed the geese

velvet pelican
tardy badger
#

I go against the Gordon Ramsey grain with steak by doing more than just salt and pepper rubbed into the steak

#

I’ve tried so many brands and Tillamook just is a level above the rest

tardy badger
burnt wave
#

right?

quartz rune
#

is it all sweet tea? I know very little about the south.

burnt wave
#

We do have King of Pops, though. I love King of Pops.

velvet pelican
#

Yeah sweet tea is a big thing

tardy badger
#

Yeah, aside from the terrible motives of Cookout owners, their milkshakes are pretty good

velvet pelican
#

My sister lives in the southern portion of Alabama

#

First time I visited it was 99% humidity and 100 degrees

#

Felt like i needed to grow gills to breathe lol

tardy badger
#

Basically

#

The weird thing is around the military bases there, it gets so much hotter and humid

burnt wave
#

concrete. 🙂

tardy badger
#

I did Army basic training in Fort Benning and my lanta

velvet pelican
#

Yeah concrete and asphalt are big heat generators

tardy badger
#

It was hotter in the hills around benning than in most every other part of the state of Georgia

velvet pelican
#

Must be like a weather pocket

tardy badger
#

The standing joke was the government had figured out a way to control localized weather

burnt wave
#

hah, and make it more miserable?

tardy badger
#

Basically

#

Lol

burnt wave
#

tbh the most miserable place weather wise in Georgia is Savannah.

tardy badger
#

Yessss

velvet pelican
#

In Oregon the weather pocket is in brookings. Always 60 degrees and cloudy

tardy badger
#

NC mountains are not too bad. But whatever you do don’t go to SC

#

SC is like... the armpit of satan

#

I lived there for almost a year and my wife is from there... way too hot

velvet pelican
#

Im sure someone likes it tho

dusty citrus
#

I live near where I was born, where my parents were born. I have lived elsewhere, but only about .. 5 to 7 years of my life.

tardy badger
#

Snow birds

dusty citrus
#

I think people just like where they have lived a long time.

covert spire
#

Yea, I miss SC

tardy badger
#

I’ve move most of my life

#

Florida, Wyoming, Tennessee, South & North Carolina, and now Utah

dusty citrus
#

Wanting what you have instead of having what you want .. that's probably part of it. ;)

tardy badger
#

I was a military brat growing up so not much choice in the matter 🙂

#

But now as an adult, I have a difficult time living anywhere too long.

dusty citrus
#

I adjusted my living location just 20 miles and about as many years, ago .. from the central low part of the state (on a flood plain) up to about 600 feet above that area, in hills and in forests.

velvet pelican
#

utah is beautiful

quartz rune
#

that's where zion is right?

#

I've only been to park city, but it was gorgeous

velvet pelican
#

i believe so

tardy badger
#

Mountain View’s from every window of my apartment

velvet pelican
tardy badger
#

I’m south of the salt lake valley

quartz rune
#

for a wedding, I can't ski

#

really good indian food there, was a bit out of the blue

#

but welcome

tardy badger
#

From my bedroom window

velvet pelican
#

cant ski? bummer. still one of the best states for a good mix of werather terrane and vegitation

quartz rune
#

It's ok, there was good times had on the trip, good company and good food

velvet pelican
#

and me typing one handed is aa wreck

dusty citrus
#

Yeah I lived in Denver and never tired of seeing the mountains in the distance.

tardy badger
#

Utah is nice because it’s kind of well located for a lot of national parks and activities

velvet pelican
dusty citrus
#

That glider guy Bruno is in Utah.

tardy badger
#

The longest I lived anywhere was Wyoming from 2004 —> 2015

velvet pelican
tardy badger
#

Lived just 2 hours south of Yellowstone

#

Eisenhower tunnel is up there going west

velvet pelican
#

lots of bear moose and wolves there @tardy badger ?

tardy badger
#

11k elevation

dusty citrus
#

@velvet pelican Independence Pass is near Aspen .. not sure what the one is called outside of Boulder.

tardy badger
#

Yeah, it was great. Small oil/gas/tourist town

velvet pelican
#

not moose lol elk*

tardy badger
#

There are moose though

dusty citrus
#

If you head for the mountains from Denver, I think you usually go to Boulder to begin.

tardy badger
#

Granted they are technically invasive

velvet pelican
#

never saw one when we went through... did see a couger tho

tardy badger
#

I used to see moose in my yard in the winter

#

Along with white tail deer and antelope on occasion

quartz rune
#

invasive moose sounds like kind of an urgent problem

tardy badger

Canadian spies

velvet pelican
#

so were the wolves werent they?

quartz rune
#

weren't they REintroduced?

#

the wolves

velvet pelican
#

maybe

tardy badger
dusty citrus
#

@velvet pelican Yeah we tried that area using a Ford Escort around oh 1987 or so. It was so hard on that little engine to make it up those long hills.

quartz rune
#

I'm thinking of another state then

tardy badger
#

Grey wolves introduced into Yellowstone technically were not from Yellowstone

quartz rune
#

Oh so it's different wolves but they were reintroducing wolves in general? It's been too long since I read about it

dusty citrus
#

we about ran out of gas on Independence Pass so we turned around and coasted downhill, back to Aspen, to find gas at midnight. ;)

tardy badger
#

They are northern Rockies grey wolves which are much larger than what lived in the area before

velvet pelican
dusty citrus
#

Four speed.

#

Probably the smallest engine they made for that vehicle.

tardy badger
quartz rune
#

my mom grew up with a 3 on the tree that they took everywhere

velvet pelican
#

automatic probaby would have toasted the transmission

dusty citrus
#

We literally never bought automatic transmission vehicles if there was a reasonable option. ;)

velvet pelican
#

same here lol

tardy badger
#

I wish they still sold manual on the lot

velvet pelican
#

tho manual is becoming rare

quartz rune
#

manual >> auto except in traffic

tardy badger
#

Even newer “manuals” are starting to transform into CVT with manual shift points

#

Don’t get me wrong, CVT are super sweet on gas

dusty citrus
#

Yeah I definitely remember three speeds.

#

Column shifter.

tardy badger
#

Better power ratios on towing in general... but it definitely steals the driving experience

quartz rune
#

eventually I'll own an electric car and only then will I have an "automatic"

dusty citrus
#

And I think the Corvair had a dashboard control for the gears.

velvet pelican
quartz rune
#

it's my "no one can borrow my car" insurance

velvet pelican
quartz rune
#

driving in SF is tough period

velvet pelican
#

yeah i rolled through there in a 5 speed toyota

tardy badger
#

Drifting a manual on a snow packed road is fun

velvet pelican
#

was not a fun time

dusty citrus
#

My Renault R-5 (branded 'LeCar`) only had three lug nuts per wheel.

quartz rune
#

ice cream - > transmissions. Conversation is weird

velvet pelican
#

also went through there in my 5 speed jetta but it was at a time where there was no traffic

tardy badger
#

Lol

velvet pelican
#

never stay on topic in offtopic

quartz rune
#

it's a mad land here

tardy badger
#

Oh good

#

I don’t think I’ll ever willingly go to SF

#

Not on personal business that is

quartz rune
#

it's beautiful but not a place I want to live

#

I'm a city rat though

velvet pelican
#

ive seen so many interesting conversation in this channel and concepts. thats why its the main one i keep open

quartz rune
#

I love the smell of trash and gasoline

tardy badger
#

I enjoy cities, I’ve always been fascinated by sky scrapers

velvet pelican
#

trasholine

tardy badger
#

But I loveeee the mountains

velvet pelican
#

yeah i dont like crowding

tardy badger
#

The irony of me is I was born basically on the beach

quartz rune
#

I just want to live in a city and have room for goats, is that too much to ask? Oh it decidedly is? Ok

velvet pelican
#

born and raised in the country near a city and thats where i am most comfortable

tardy badger
#

Lol

#

Yeah, close enough for amenities

quartz rune
#

where I live now is decidedly not a city, and I miss it sometimes

tardy badger
#

Far enough to avoid the insanity

quartz rune
#

ah but the insanity is wonderful

#

never having to know anyone because almost everyone is a stranger!

dusty citrus
tardy badger
#

Haha

dusty citrus
#

It's true.

#

;)

velvet pelican
#

i like having connections

quartz rune
#

That's fair

tardy badger
#

Everyone is a stranger if you’re introverted enough

quartz rune
#

I like the anonymity of cities

#

you can be close with people if you want to be but nobody has to know you if you don't want them to

velvet pelican
#

my anonymity is when i go snowboarding and just meet random people there

tardy badger
#

I like where I’m at currently. Just enough busy, and not too much city.

velvet pelican
#

got that small town feel?

tardy badger
#

In a way

velvet pelican
#

only thing i dontcare for in small towns is everyone knows everyones business

tardy badger
#

It’s kind of on the edge of town but 2 minutes from Walmart and Costco

velvet pelican
#

thats a prime position

tardy badger
#

I can quite literally see Costco from my window right with the Mountain Views haha

velvet pelican
quartz rune
#

Ah but I ain't smart

tardy badger
#

Lol

dusty citrus
#

The secret to living well among people appears to be simple enough: learning their names and calling them by their name.

tardy badger
#

Very true

dusty citrus
#

After a while people want to be one of the ones you know the name of. ;)

tardy badger
#

Mess up once in a small town and about 40 versions of what happened will get spoken to you in one week

quartz rune
#

mess up in a city and maybe it makes the blotter

tardy badger
#

Mess up a circuit and you release more magic into the world

velvet pelican
#

yeah but by the next day someone else messes up in the city and the day before is forgotten

quartz rune
#

mess up in a method and you can return the wrong data

tardy badger
#

Or a compiler error

quartz rune
#

Compiler, we don't need no stinking compiler

tardy badger
#

Where we’re going, we don’t need compilers

quartz rune
#

runtime errors, everywhere

velvet pelican
#

and blue screens

dusty citrus
#

Ah, Apollo's computer rebooted several times during Armstrong's landing.

velvet pelican
#

that sounds a bit scary

tardy badger
#

Indeed

velvet pelican
#

yeah i need to move left... ohh wait gotta reboot

tardy badger
#

What’s funny is a TI-84 could land you on the moon

dusty citrus
#

There's a YouTube series on those events I've been meaning to look into.

velvet pelican
#

there seems to be youtube on everything these days
