Wow 3m is a lot.

On the rail trail in early morning, wild rabbits are common (at least two seen every trip).

I kept a rabbit in the house (apartment) for a while. Sandbox training was fairly easy and robust, but there were still incidents.

I set up a plank at about a 20 degree incline and the rabbit had no issues using it. It was fun to hear each hop as it was utilized, from another room, without looking.

My neighbor also had a whole-apartment rabbit (no cage while she was awake; don't know about overnight as she couldn't mind the housecat while asleep).

Seems to me she felt the need to regularly address the cat.

(maybe the cat thinks the rule about the rabbit wears off if not spoken to, after a while)

My friend Roger used to hold a rodent (can't remember which species) nose to nose with the cat, now and then.

Possibly to desensitize the cat. Wasn't meant as harm to either creature.

I don't think they can climb a dry petri dish wall at all, still the container is usually sealed, mainly because you don't want contaminants to get in, like fungi or bacteria.

Today eggs hatched... there new tiny worms...

they just reproduce within 3 days since they are born

I've noticed that they fight against intermolecular forces most of the times... sometimes the tiny ones manage to separate from the rest but then when a big one moves to close to them they just get attracted and stuck to bigger worms....

Those tiny worms remind me of a tiny sundew plant I found while examining some with a microscope

When it grew larger, it produced the characteristic leaves with the stalks with sticky red knobs on the ends. These are attractive to small insects.

When the hapless insect lands on one, it gets stuck, and the leaf and stalks curl inward to envelope and digest the insect. Yes, sundews are carnivorous plants, but less dramatic than a venus flytrap.

I did that for one of my cats - she has only 1 of two necessary genes for the potential health issues she inherited. Decided the 17 year old cat can remain a mystery cat, as it kind of fits her personality anyway. Plus, whatever health stuff she might have inherited has probably already happened.

It's an off-label use, but there's a drug used for cats (among other animals) called acepromazine, that when regularly given in smaller-than-the-tranquilising-dose to cats, neutralises the allergen in cat saliva, rendering them hypoallergenic. At least in my experience. I think it's not a fully studied concept, so not all vets agree it works, and therefore will not always prescribe it to you. But my housemate's mum went so far as to test it on my housemate's dad (which is to say, administered it for a couple of weeks and then stopped), and it was like night and day for his allergies. Not that you should go through all of that to have cats, but it's a thing worth knowing. 🙂

I deal with allergy meds myself, and they still don't work perfectly, but I love my kitties too much. I haven't had ACE in ages, plus it's harder to make sure it gets administered to a cat that refuses all manner of treats or wet food. Only kibble in a bowl. So I'd have 2 hypoallergenic kitties, and one not so much. You can give it to them in water too, but we have a filtering water fountain, so that's less of an option for us.

I have pretty bad allergies in general, so I'm on a double dose of two different allergy meds. It's under control for the most part. Like I said, I haven't used the acepromazine in a long time, but it worked when I had it. There's also allergy shots, which, iirc, take a few years to really work, but you have to start somewhere with them. The shots are kind of tailored to your needs - they give you a test for a bunch of different allergens, and then make your shot based on the results. I still haven't gotten on that train.

It is in the saliva. But cats clean themselves by licking, so it gets all over them.

That's why the ACE works like it does, neutralises the allergen in the saliva, so it stops it at the source. Doesn't help if you're allergic to pet dander as well, that's a separate thing.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. I'd be pretty heartbroken too if it got bad enough that I couldn't have them.
