Thanks @rocky reef & @hard hollow . See you all tonight.
ET: Denotes US Eastern Time (which ever of daylight or standard time is in effect)
EST: Specifically denotes US Eastern Standard Time
EDT: Specifically denotes US Eastern Daylight Time
Thank you for taking time for us.
thanks so much for hanging out folks!
catched the late
π
Cheers all
thanks folks! cya tonight
thanks, all!
the daylight saving time as was walking on ice
thanks guys!
Hey everyone!
yo
hey all
Good evening everyone
going to try and share an update to my telephone ringer tonight π
Hey Y'll
Hello everyone.!
waiting for my apple floppy drives to arrive somewhere between Toronto and Calgary at the moment
Good evening everyone.
wahoo
fly a drone through the new facility!
Hola from 'rado ! :-D
π€
Exciting news! I've enjoyed my Lulzbot, great to hear about a digikey partnership!
Hello all π
This is good to hear. I'm just weeks away from buying a 3D printer.
oh noooo broken printers??
@robust horizon check out applesauce way of using a sync sensor on the floppy drive
go go retro
multicast DNS / Bonjour is so very useful on home networks
@turbid hill yes! I went with the reflective sensor in part because my magnets got lost in the mail π€£ it's working really nicely
Hi, all!
I miss that floppy drive sound
Is it that time of the year where US had their daylight saving thing and EU not yet? And I could have come and present something without too much sleep deprivation? Well I missed it! π
floppy has died of dysentery
Probably. We just had Daylight saving on Sunday.
@sage aspen Ping me if you ever have a HyperCard issue. I used to do professional dev (!) in HC. And do you have a link to your SCSI to SD adapter?
Yup, part of our government opted to stop the switch next year
I hope Canada follows suit like we did last time the US changed their DST rules
@robust horizon Is that not a PC floppy drive, how did you make it talk apple format, or are you writing raw flux patterns to the floppy
Ok, though I'm a noob at it. You can just google for SCSI2SD and find a bunch of stuff. I just grabbed it off eBay.
It seems they can agree on 2 things. Zelensky is great and daylight savings time isn't.
Very cool Liz
Congrats again @split gazelle such a gain for everyone
congrats @split gazelle !
Yay Liz!
EU voted something to end the change but we failed to decide if we wanted to stick with summer time or winter time... So it seems we continue switching!
We went with summer
Very visual, Liz. Congrats on joining the Adafruit team!
thank you!! πΊ
woohoo!
thanks!
Happy to help; no question too noob for me!
thank you!
thank you very much!
A great podcast!
thanks!
indeed, fantastic podcast
@split gazelle I sat there the whole time clicking on the echo cancellation. π
@sage aspen , back in the day, I wrote LiveCard, which enabled making HyperCard stacks accessible on the web. It shipped with HyperCard late in its life.
https://tidbits.com/1996/07/29/livecard-hits-the-web/
Hi people
That's awesome.
I would have been here earlier but Discord decided to download the internet first
@nova totem that looks awesome!
That is a cool gadget @nova totem
@nova totem nice job on this! the case turned out great. Love these types of helpful niche gadgets.
@sage aspen There are a ton of XCMDs (HyperCard extensions) by Apple and third parties, to reach beyond the Mac. It might be interesting to use a serial XCMD as a bridge between HyperCard and MCUs running CircuitPython or Arduino.
I'm so glad to hear others saying that the final wiring of a project is a hard phase for them too. it feels like nightmare to me
Sounds intriguing.
Thanks @haughty quiver
Great projects everyone, thanks for sharing all
Thanks everyone.
@robust horizon What's the tough part you're working through now?
Thanks it turned out better then I hoped (and didn't get squished when the button was pressed)
Thanks JP. Great show and thanks for showing neat projects everyone! π
Thanks, @haughty quiver !
great job hosting @haughty quiver && fantastic projects everyone!
@slow spire right this second, it's coming together π I re-wired my apple disk drive rotation sensor today with a proper inline connector
Such great stuff everyone, thank you for coming on
Thanks @haughty quiver
Thanks I actually want to tweak the case a bit or maybe find someone with smaller hands to help in assembling it next time!

(Oh, and maybe futzing with Cura a bit.)
@open girder took stock and I have 4 unopened rolls of leaded solder. should I still use it up, or should i dispose of it (safely) and stick with the newer lead free stuff?
oooh I helped add the code to circuitpython so that you could set rotation anytime
@robust horizon the solder is not that unsafe to use, I would not waste it but use it up.
lol Foamy headed Scott is great
I only use lead-free these days, but maybe @robust horizon there's a local maker space that could use it.

this adabox is going to be worth the wait y'all
you did a great job documenting the show!
Winter - Spring AdaBox - it's the Win-ing-est of them all. π
This giant circuit sculpture is so neat!
Pro-tip: While awaiting the new AdaBox, look around; you may have an unopened AdaBox that needs love.
Maybe if it gets delayed enough we can get two at the same time!
lol
I love Kelly Heaton's work. No 555 timers! Just transistor oscillators emulating organic stimulus-response cycles (in her older bird projects at least)
there is a 555 sculpture
oh cool! I had not seen that
I love those
There's those robot birbs I've been hearing bout.
the work is so great, I enjoy this love of electronics that's emitted from the sculptures
I just got used to electronics boxes getting delayed. It is a surprise regardless of when it comes. I'll be happy to build it when ever π
Q: I know u guys plan a head what up coming AdaBox's are going to be but has Adafruit started gathering parts already for the 2022 Summer AdaBox's & 2022 Fall Adabox's?
FreeOTP works as well. I just set it up on my iPhone.
Genreal question:
does anyone know the handle on here for the guy in Florida that makes the buttons & what not for physically & cognitively challenged individuals? I think his name is Bill?
2FA in this day and age should be everywhere
it should be required
@pearl shoal is he
Sweet! Thanks @slow spire
I don't need another Pi (badly) right now but I like the push to enable 2FA
The thing that I have been impressed by is how fast you guys ship. I think I have an adafruit purchasing problem The box usually comes within a couple of days. Which reminds me...I need to send a complaint about the solid products. If they were less high quality I wouldn't be buying so much. Also JP and his picks! I always have to have my cart ready to guy for that show! lol
It looks more joystick than mouse.
Same for me. Typically 2 or 3 days.
Would love to see a docu on the design process for the Toot-a-loop
Oh man, it's hard when I see things people that call "retro" and I remember them from when I was a kid. I once saw a toy I had as a kid in an antique shop (literally, the one I had based on some stickers I put on it).

Panasonic was big in the home audio market through the 90s.
Panasonic - Floppy Drives
Macs didn't come out until 1984. Panasonic still makes killer audio systems. Acura's premium sound is made by Panasonic
Now up to 7.2.3 π because we had a problem with the first bug fix
I remember working on the Mac SE and LE when I was in high school. I used to have to ride public transport to school and I was always coming home after dark because I would be messing around with the 9600 baud modem the school had until they would shuffle me out the door. I only had a 2400 baud modem at home
That would have been maybe 92...

As far as processing power goes, how does it compare to the rp2040? Like would this work as an alternative to the airlift & rp2040 feather combo?
Question for the show @open girder
Whatβs the possibility of a dual MCU board ? Such as an ESP32 or RP2030 with two chips ? For the purpose of passing off tasks and leaving the main MCU for speed in code execution
Uses could be Machine learning, DVI/HDMI out⦠camera projects Etc
It was great that there were fun but educational games
@open girder noitseuQ: This is more of a PSA... BOOTLEG chips. My professional life has had to deal with bootleg chips (specifically encoder chips). Even though it might suddenly be available, does not mean it is the real thing.
Are you folks going to carry the Blues Wireless Swan board and their cellular data modem?
It a feather and supports CP?
It's a STM32-based board
Swan is a low-cost, embeddable STM32L4-based microcontroller designed to accelerate the development and deployment of battery-powered IoT solutions. It is especially useful for applications requiring large memory or a high degree of I/O expandability at an affordable cost, such as edge inferencing and remote monitoring
How about $120 for a $7 chip??? Wowsers! Not my BOOTLEG issue, but another issue we have had to address.
The Swan already supports CP.
OMG what chip?
I got a 3d printer, so "hey, should set up octoprint." Guess what, can't get raspberry pi for under $120 anymore, and the 2b I have isn't sufficient. I'm guessing it's also going to be 18 months out on being able to actually get
I have one more question actually, what's your recommendation for storing stemma sensors? Also thanks!
@open girder BTW, I saw that the NAU7802 (at least through-hole) is available in quantity again.
I am not sure about that chip, but it was something the customer was trying to source as well as us. We are all in this together, and the times are tough!!!
Question are you planning on getting more Turing Complete Labs 10 Digit Monochrome LCD Display? Ansd how do you decide if the test run was for successful for a third-party board ?
It's possible to use your own computer as a host, I think, if that helps you bridge the time between now and getting one.
I did sign up for emails, doesn't look like I got one today
Q: don't know if u missed this:
I know u guys plan a head what up coming AdaBox's are you able / are you gathering parts already for the 2022 Summer AdaBox's & 2022 Fall Adabox's?
And hey now we can pull out those older Raspberry Pi 2 and 3 boards that we all have in a drawer. Just pulled one out to use as a little Linux test box. Works great
Thanks @open girder and good night. π
Thank you for taking time for us
Thanks, y'all!
Great show
Great shows. I needed a distraction tonight. Thanks
π Great show, thanks

Find Raspberry Pi computers in stock with this simple to use web application.
Only Pis available in the world at the moment according to that are in switzerland. Was looking at if a cheap tablet I have could be used with octo4a, likely underpowered, looks like the OTG adapter I got isn't going to work to charge the tablet, no way to tell if one or any will work without testing each one.

Can you do touch control on ESP32-S2 or -S3?
Both of these devices do have the touchio module listed as built-in. https://circuitpython.org/board/adafruit_qtpy_esp32s3_nopsram/ and https://circuitpython.org/board/adafruit_feather_esp32s2/ I would guess that means they can to captive touch input if that is what you mean. I have not tried it specifically though.
ESP32-S2 definitely does touch. The FunHouse has 3 capsense buttons and a capsense slider. So there's schematics and example code! https://circuitpython.org/board/adafruit_funhouse/
Ah good point on the FunHouse. Slipped my mind, that slider thing on there is so neat.
I'd like to have a board with touch pads and space for two feather boards.
Gamepad? I'm still working on a mute button.
Oh wow! I haven't looked into the steam deck too much, I had no idea it a relatively normal OS desktop available inside of it like this.

Elden Ring will surely consume me
"You have died": There I solved Elden Ring for you
lol
Hehe true. I am scared to get a steam deck because it can run Factorio, which I definitely do not need the ability to carry around with me.
It can't possibly kill me more than Bloodborne does
is that a Factory sim?
And so it begins...
hahaha
Yep, conveyor belts to move goods around and assemblers to combine them into other goods.
It tends to be a little addictive, especially drawing in programmers.
hahah!
Soon we will have a factorio to feather api?

Sorry I was late to the CP parsec palette party.
Does anyone know what timezone YT scheduled streams are in? I've got the Deep Dive stream for tonight scheduled but I'm questioning if I did it at the right time:
On the page where I set it, I don't think timezone was specified, so I assumed local time to me (Central US). But on the page now it shows 4:00pm (which is what I set it to) but states "live in 4 hours" and the stream actually starts in 5 hours not 4. But it is at 4:00 local time to me.
This how ti looks on the part to set the time:
Maybe its rounding down since its a few min past the start of the hour.
Phew thank you. It must be the rounding down thing and I just was "unlucky" enough to look at right near the top of the hour when it happens to be rounding the most.
considering video dates are reduced to the precision of "1 week ago"... "1 year ago", it's lucky it even gives you a time π

Hi everyone
Hi Tim.

@smoky island Just in case you didn't know I could hear your keyboard so your mic is probably live even with the your title screen up (well now you are live anyways)

Hola from 'rado ! :-D π #LTF
Heelo.
Hi there
πΈπͺ π
I made something like that for Scott. With a Clue, but it was not super usefull...
βPurpose-builtβ project
Scrap playground
Smart washer.
Time stamper button.
Yes.
Bolt
Smart nipple for bicycle rim.
Threaded spokes.
Timestamper! π π
in circup, you can specify a path
What happens when the working stamper gets reset?
The timer resets. But I've had mine run for 15+ hours, so as long as you're not editing the code, etc, it should be ok.
(Sorry if this is duplicate info, I'm into other things and not following the stream.)
Maybe should disable auto-restart.
Update the NVM with current time until reset manually
Definitely worth considering. It reloading is a major concern of mine.
Seems like Scott had problems with it.
if it fetched the datetime and set it to the rtc, you can have a 'time since start' value, and a comparative 'seconds since epoch' value, that way if there's an accidental reset you can still recover the time based on the offest from the datetime
I also thought of this, but doesn't that wear out the NVM pretty quickly? I thought it was write limited or whatever the terminology is.
β¦ or to an SD card
I like my tiny Feather/Wing sammich as it is π
If your using the MacroPad or by adding an encoder to the two key version you could use the encoder to set a start/current time. Just dial up a time and press start.
Hey all. Just tuned in.
Disable the auto-reset... there is a way.
Yes RTC + save the time you press the button, and then at startup verify if there is a recorded start time.
Then make sure to remember you disabled auto-reset, because I would probably forget and keep wondering why it never resets when I save my code. π€¦π»ββοΈ
Don't remember...
supervisor.disable_autoreload() ?
Hmm. Looks simple enough.
I like how we've gotten to the point of not wanting to blow our CircuitPython program's up-time
Looks like it worked! It's not reloading on edit/save now.
Good call @wind spoke and @cinder wind.
you could use ntp and keep an offset between curtime and real-time to keep from drifting.
clock overflow π₯
woohoo! I often turn off autoreload because I save so often, and then use Ctrl-C + Ctrl-D in REPL to restart
That's such an awesome title card!
so cute!
β€οΈ Love the new title card!
I noticed that graphic earlier and super like it. shoutout to @simple fractal
wait but who is Tim?
Different Bruce. Bruce is Adafruit's graphic wizard.
Foamyguy is Tim? That doesn't sound right.
Ahh. is that Bruce on discord?
Nope π
I often set the script to exit when I press 'any key'.
from supervisor import runtime
while not runtime.serial_bytes_available:
#do stuff
Program stops when you type into the console.
Is there a way to manage CP libraries on a board in VSCode like circup does?
Thanks Tim. I gotta run. A friend's band is playing down the street and I want to hear some blues and sip a bourbon.
terminalio I think is monospace
Scale is throwing off the string width calculation? Rounding error
yeah I think scale messes up those things
I'll add Wio Terminal. I just started looking at it.
^Yes. Scale works in the entire bitmap object. Anchor is font pixel-based.
I'm liking the S3 box now too
Compared memory use and execution time in a few projects; vectorio shapes are measurably more efficient on both counts.
Whatβs the advantage to passing the palette versus a single color value?
Can't see all of line 17.
Ah the palette exists, so use it. Thanks.
Thanks
yeah it's weird. you specify only a single-entry palette but there's no way to say which palette color to use and which one is transparent?
yes that change would be cool
here's a little ball bouncer using your vectorio example: https://gist.github.com/todbot/3351c47566afe8e107d3d3e64d972263
pretty nice and clean!
yep
slick!
if you set a timer on the desktop, you can use obs to add a source in a small box
Now the square is pink.
Palette use is confusing. Sometimes the palette is simply a list of available colors (a theme), sometimes itβs a list of specific graphic sprite element colors. One type is shared, the other is specific to a sprite.
βοΈ
I am so here for this. Thank you Tim
rechargable for the win
palette[0] = rainbowio.colorwheel( time.monotonic()*20 ) ahaha
I'm late
ooo who's going to be the first to write a SVG to vectorio.polygon converter
wasn't there a deepdivers role?
there is. we should make foamyguy can ping it
The order just has to match the enum up top I think
yeah, spits out circuitpython code, runs on PC
this might be interesting for someone in the future, there is a very cool minimal vector image format that is used for storing icons in the HaikuOS, http://blog.leahhanson.us/post/recursecenter2016/haiku_icons.html
I think you can add the -j (cores or threads) to your make command to use more cores to build faster.
But I copied it from someone else so could be off
in haiku they store the icons in the file descriptor in the filesystem, so it has to be small
alias make='make -j4' but that's a dangerous hack
invisible box is invisible
crouching vector hidden box
palette_onedex?
maybe you just pass in a palette, and if index 0 is transparent, great, otherwise, the block is color0 colored, with colorN being the shape color?
ahhh
Still, a vectorio shape can only show a single color. Having a palette is confusing.
If a vectorio shape had an outline as well as a fill, then palette makes sense (to me).
that is very cute
cat party!
For some people 1 cat is enough... for others... well >1 than one is their plan.
MultiNeko!
btw, you can sort the group by the y coordinate of the sprite, to have them cover each other properly
this is why I made group use a list internally, so I can sort it easily
if it's midnight, then 16 hours from now will be 16:00 :-)
Ya F1 qualifier tomorrow, race sunday
mods are away, post circuitpython cats
π
it can happen if you move branches without updating submodules
fetche submodules should work for the branch you are on
what does git status show?
untracked could be if you are starting from an old branch
the st_driver stuff is a pain
it changed from one submodule to many
git status is most of my experience
Thanks @smoky island !
thanks @smoky island, a very useful improvement!
Thanks for the great stream! Have a good evening!
Thanks @smoky island !

Have a great weekend

βWe deep dive in a purple submarine, a purple submarineβ¦β
@smoky island for the scrub bar to be split by timecodes you need a 0:00 entry
Nice, Thank you. I added that one and now it's got the sections split out
well i was eating lunch as I heard the shoutout to me, although I'm not the Bruce you are looking for.
Hey @smoky island, not sure what you'll be talking about on your stream today, but if you're covering VectorIO, I remembered a function that I worked with @toxic basin for some of the widgets. Here's a function to create a line (angled_rectangle) with a given width. You give it two endpoints and the line stroke and it makes a polygon to make a line. I think this function was used in a widget but in a brief search I didn't find where it was. https://gist.github.com/kmatch98/32df3bece4be2ce7c9ed983049b10617
Oh, nice. Thank you. I am going to work on vectorio some more.
Maybe we should have a python layer library with vecotrio "helpers".
It would be interesting to make a wrapper around vectorio.Polygon that uses the points you give it for a standard polygon, but also passes them in pairs to create these lines. So you end up with an outlined polygon with fill and border line. If I am imaging how it would work correctly at least.
Now I remember, it was for an arrow pointer. I am unsure if it finally made it into a widget.
For the Cartesian, Iβve initiated a multiline segment structure. Unfortunately Iβve gotten distracted and havenβt wrapped this up.
Maybe I should wrap up just the multiline segment helper first.
Agreed that a vectorio helper library would be cool.
Going live now, continuing on with the vectorio work from last night. Hang out here in the chat, and follow along on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eywFUaeGNQY or Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch
Good morning Tim.
Hello.
The default max value is typically 65535. If unsigned, then uint16 makes sense. int32 has a max value of 65535 as well, but allows negative values, unlike uint__.
Saves memory and reduces execution time to use smaller word sizes.
Super! This will be very useful.
There are some outline algorithm approaches in displayio shapes code, but some, particularly circle, have scaling errors when the outline width is greater than 3 or 4 pixels.
β¦ but itβs desirable to have a circle outline with a transparent fill.
Then thereβs the need for a graphic arc, too. The list goes on. π
No palette in displayio shapes, right?
None color is transparent in shapes most of the time
Is the outline inside or outside the rectangle?
In a perfect world, the outline should ride along the rectangle edge with half the stroke above the edge and half below.
Excellent
Thanks @smoky island !
Thanks for stream @smoky island, just caught the end of the show. I like the idea of a βcontinuousβ line with giving it multiple points and it connects them all and doesnβt leave the corner gaps. At first thought to be sure there are no corner gaps (like you found with the outline rectangle) I would approach it like a creating a long polygon. Iβd have to think (or search for code examples) on how to find the new corner points to draw a long segmented polygon. But agree this would be a useful displayio/vectorio helper function.
Looks like this is a whole class of algorithms and problems in and of itself. Looks like main issue is how to render a really sharp corner, since the intersection could extend waaay far away. Maybe thereβs a simplification we can use. Some reading material on βoffset polygonsβ https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1109536/an-algorithm-for-inflating-deflating-offsetting-buffering-polygons
@light stump I started the vectorio helpers library here: https://github.com/circuitpython/VectorIO_Helpers So far the only code is the outlined rectangle that I made during stream, and a Line that I refactored the angled rectangle into.
Interesting stuff on the corners. It's always fascinating to run into stuff that seems somewhat simple on the surface but is actually has a whole field of study existing to solve. I wonder if there is any existing python code that implements these algorithms.
I think I'm going to refactor these helpers a little more to try to have a very similar API to display_shapes library. Main change being accepting color values directly instead of a palette and indexes.
Makes sense. Is there also a consensus that None==transparent?
I think so
Yay! Welcome back π
Desk of Ladyada - S3 Sunday and Some Samples https://youtu.be/eFA2jt4mTl4
This week we've been working on more and more revisions and also trying to get some older designs out the door. For example, we've got some ESP32-S3 feather and QT Py designs that we didn't release due to some errors and also S3 support in the world wasn't quite ready. But with our revised S2 design done, we swapped out a board on the panel with...
howdy all
Without the Psram, is the S3 faster or better than the current S2 feathers?
I think the main advantage may be risc V
Thats a patent/licensing benefit for makers?
i'll let @open girder answer Squirrel
from my point of view it's an architecture likely to be in our futures
and therefore worth exploring
common toolsets and all that
but it is primarily the licensing that better encourages open source projects
Thnx
oh right.
C3 is like the new 8266, doesn't really compete with the s2, s3, etc
S3 also has Bluetooth LE which the s2 didn't have
I'm just happy they can deliver components at ESP
Yeah for sure
with networking and BLE or BF
Probably even more confusing, I think there are some i2s dacs that use i2c to configure them (but not set the output)
I'm pretty sure I used a wm one back in the day.
if you're not making mistakes, you're not taking enough risk. Being creative and creating products requires risk tolerance
i love the qt py form factor
Thanks and good night. π
Yeah it's pretty slick, I need to get some of these new ones
Have a good week all!

Preparing consigned parts for your manufacturer should be easy, but customers make several commons mistakes that delay the process.
- Double-check the shipping address. (We have multiple facilities covering several states.)
- Include overages in your kit. Reel-fed parts require a few extras to properly feed the machine. See our whitepaper...

Now that the SnT stream is over, hereβs a link for the Scanimate, for inspiration maybe? (I canβt switch apps while Iβve got YouTube and Discord both up on my iPad or Discord loses its input boxβ¦)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scanimate
Scanimate is an analog computer animation (video synthesizer) system developed from the late 1960s to the 1980s by Computer Image Corporation of Denver, Colorado.
The 8 Scanimate systems were used to produce much of the video-based animation seen on television between most of the 1970s and early 1980s in commercials, promotions, and show opening...

didn't get a chance to say hi during S&T so I'll say it now: hi everybody!
my show & tell is: something went wrong at oshpark so my PCB came with extra holes in it. not sure what happened, but I have a souvenir and they're re-fabbing the boards

They are speed holes, helps it go faster, less air resistence
I could probably make the board work, just 2 traces are affected but I could also handle putting off the project until the fixed boards show up π

@robust horizon I got my 4 apple floppy drives although first 2 need cleaning since they were used by a smoker. I also got pcbway to make me some of the floppy feather hat boards
@robust horizon is your pcb designed for the apple drive I notice it's 20 pin
@turbid hill I must have lucked out, my apple //e and 3 floppies were all non-smoky. I'm going to be putting the floppy stuff aside soon to get back to concentrating on circuitpython but I hope you can get those boards going.
@turbid hill a good eye. Yes, but it may be a project that gets shelved / waits until I can do it on my own time.
@robust horizon oky doky if the gerber files are available I might get a few built, once you fix the oops extra holes
not yet!
no problem I got plenty to work on
the project is a drive emulator, so it's going the "opposite way".
thats ok I have the dos-emu unit and it works real well
I did find an open source apple 2 floppy emulator but it's a rather old and probably not maintained design.. https://github.com/rbanffy/sdisk2 https://tulip-house.ddo.jp/digital/SDISK2/english.html
Yes I have seen that one
I got a BMOW drive emulator so that's nice, but my goal is to show that an RP2040 would be good for this task
cool

Where can I find the python code that can make a 2FA code?
I have 3 hardware keys and an authenticator app π
It makes complete sense. Just new to me. Gonna start using it.

It's the same with sports/concert tickets. While the scalpers complain about the barriers the general public by FAR supports measures to stop bots buying everything
I have Google Authenticator and it works well on my iPhone. It's just an app and I use it for many sites.
1Password supports 2FA. So when you fill in a password, it has the 2FA code ready to go. I also use Yubikeys for 2FA where possible.
The phrase βfeeding frenzyβ is provoking someβ¦entertainingβ¦mental imagery right nowβ¦
Do you make any provision to notify "older" subscriptions first, or is it arbitrary?
mmm taco
@robust horizon yep, older ones first
note that in theory your 2FA should be on a different device than the one you access the site from, otherwise it remains a single point of failure, and also not use the same password manager π€·
Google is supposed to be using mms instead which is encrypted sms
are MMS encrypted ? I don't think so
no phone standard is encrypted, end-to-end encryption is not their vibe
yes google said that they want all phone carriers to use the mms instead because it's more proteced than older sms
There was blog article from google talking about this two years ago
that must not have been about MMS
Google actually uses now about 7 different 2fa methods from 6 digit code to verify emails to touch the popup app to verify it's you

Q: Open source community etiquette question - If a mesh file design is posted on thingiverse, the author said that they use this design in there schoolroom class, & is posted under Creative Commons - Attribution license, but said that they couldn't post the C.A.D. files. Would it be wrong for me to then post my completed design, that includes OG, modified, & my completely newly made parts on my thingiverse including my F3D files?

@open girder Do you already, or have plans for implementing order batching, similar to Amazon delay shipping. Take payment at time of mini order, securing stocked item. But, enable Customers to pre define e.g. 1-14 days, or trigger delivery. Adafruit retains right to trigger delivery any time given their warehouse space constraints.
Goals:
- Reduce overall shipping costs for Customers
- Reduce total packaging Adafruit uses, increases Adafruit's margin.
- Increase timeframe Adafruit gets to hold income, increases Adafruit's margin.
- Enable delivery smoothing, batched deliveries means less carbon footprint.
- Reduce friction/resistance for Customers to add parts.
- Ideally, I'd like to load up on non time critical parts throughout the week, e.g. JPs pick, new products, recently stocked products. But without paying delivery per sub-order.
Cheers for requiring multi factor auth for purchasing educational devices.
Hrm...maybe not...might have to try with C instead
Oh man that would be sweet!
The Cray was so much smaller than I thought when I saw it at the Computer History Museum in San Jose. Back then, you'd have a "raised floor room" not a data center, cuz all the cables went below the floor.
remind me what is socketio ?
Basically an implementation of websockets...or maybe alternative is a better way to put it
there's a socketio library for Micropython, and I ported uwebsockets for CP, so I could look into that

@open girder It would be nice to use DHL DDP which allows the duty/tax to be rolled into the shipping cost so it gets to Canada with less delay for customs work.

I'll have to check it out! I've got web clients using socketio now, but an starting to work on user-less devices connecting to receive commands.
Could you use this pressure sensor with a pitot tube to measure air speed?
@open girder I will check on my next purchase but I did not see that option.
I'll have to check but usually I end up paying DHL duties after my order - but get a SMS when its on its way to pay DHL so I'm not delayed. (I get a lot of orders in 2-3 days via DHL)
Not sure if you can set up a DHL account to set your preferences. Been so long since I did that
might be not for all locations, shipping is complicated more so lately!
Wonder if that's precise enough for a pitot tube
I don't think I've ever had to pay for duties when delivering to Toronto... but maybe I set up the ddp thing and don't remember...
Thank you for the pointers!!
I'm setting up more 2FA right now!
I imagine that if the single-port one is accurate enough for an altimeter, the dual-port would work for airspeed... I suspect VSI is the application that needs more accuracy.

Question for the show
@open girder
Adafruit created a beautiful ANCS (Apple notification system ) Circuit Python library and working code
While it was created for the NRF52840 chip, is there anyway it can be ported to the ESP32 for CircuitPython/MicroPython
Or an Ardunio port made that would support Bluetooth ~ ESP32?

I find that I feel burnout when Iβm feeling unfulfilled, more so than when Iβm tired.
Thank you all!
goodnight. Thanks for talking about burnout, I think it needs to be heard.
Thanks @open girder and good night. π

Thanks for the answer. I'n waiting on another RP2040 QT Py to come in this week.
Thanks folks!
thanks Limor & pt!
Glad i raced to get in and get my question in :(
I get that, I'm not tired just can't get the motivation at times. It can be tough to get through.
@open girder Thank you for the show and inspiration.
It can. I struggle too lately. Iβm hoping my upcoming job change will help that problem. Initial signs are goodβ¦
@tribal iris A BME280 would likely work well.
@tribal iris How often would you be polling it, and what would trigger polling?
If itβs for a humidor, hopefully humidity isnβt changing quickly anyway, so a reading from hours ago is probably still good
Right?
Iβd imagine that Adafruitβs ANCS library (for CircuitPython) should work on top of BLE where supported in CP on ESP MCUs
(Iβm not seeing Nordic-specifics in the ANCS library for CP)
In any event, my approach would be to try it, and file an issue if it doesnβt yet work.
Hey - WRT that Elektor cover art: The name looks like Ton Gulikers (sounds Dutch to me) so I googled that and got a hit on LinkedIn for an artist in the Netherlands. Might be a lead worth following:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/ton-gulikers-74b1bb27/?originalSubdomain=nl
Thanks for the show - too bad about the AdaBoxes π¦
thanks @earnest cosmos checkin this out!

Hi folks
π
π
π
John Park's Workshop is Go for launch...
π
it's that guy, on the show!
hey neat!
Le Bleeps, and le Bloops.
Good afternoon.
Hello, and good day to everyone π
π
we the Discordant
hi all
Master of gratuitous inclusion
π’ π¦ πΊ
Just need some doughnuts and arcs
Mmmm. Doughnuts.
need to make the openscad-like library that creates all those shapes using just vectorio set operations
hey @smoky island do you know why that tearing occurs? I see that a lot in CircuitPython animations. looks like the standard no-double-buffer issue, but I can't figure out how it's happening
nice ping pong demo
β¦ or perhaps some primitives based on ancient Evans βn Sutherland vector graphics.
I don't know for sure. My best guess is that the system does something else like gc or other background tasks part way through the update which takes it a noticeable period of time.
ahhh yeah I can imagine that. I bet it's USB again π
Thanks for making this broadcast early but I have to go to sleep, at little bit sooner or at week-end ant that would be perfect
one strategy I've tried with moderate success to eliminate artifacts for displays is to manually envoke the GC at a less-critical time.
Using lead free solder ?
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! πΈπͺ
late to the party but hi folks
Good evening, @clever summit π
Hey Liz
i've never seen that technique for starting off a header, taking note
It is looking cherry @johnpark ! :-D
You need Blu Tac!
it's only March and we need A/C
Running low? You are not supposed to EAT it!
If you are going to do it that way, you have to hold your tongue to one side.
I sometimes use a spot of superglue.
I thought I'd be a wise guy and say "What? No ferrules??" And there you go and mention it...
I hate the ones with those spring things inside. I never know whether I'm supposed to put the wire above or below. π€
@ionic garnet Tells me they go above. π
Give me WAGO connectors every time. π
cooling down before done using the iron is much better than staying hot after I finish using but forget to turn it off.
I used them for the first time when fixing my lights in the garage. I'm never going back.
I bought my first set last month and now use them everywhere
Off-by-one errors are not just for programmers.
I've tried other solderless connectors and some work ok but there's something very nice and reliable about WAGO
My lab is controlled by Home Assistant, it shuts down my soldering station if I leave the room.
See Home Alone for a classic example
Oooh that is a nice idea!
Hey @haughty quiver , i'm here if you have any questions π
I'm glad to get to watch over JPs shoulder to see techniques for some of this stuff. Pulling the pins out of the middle of a row of header never occured to me before, but definitely have run across cases where it would be handy.
correct, two of those wires are not used
let me check
INPUT is 3-35 V OUTPUT is 5-40V
the USB or LiPo is the input, and output can get near 40
yeah ruined cutters... I have two cutters: one really nice pair for trimming delicate things, one now-crappy messed up pair I use for snipping big terminals
lol
Tolerance bands on left or right? (OCD test question)
either as long as they're the same
I put yellow cable ties on my good cutters so I don't mess it up as well
Nice to see a good through hole project. π
The whole project is through hole...
thanks! i'm going to make a surface mount version for a compact ringer if people don't want to build it
I think bands should be in digit-order. But for god's sake, don't alternate directions!
I don't know how to do surface mount
surface mount things
I think it involves a heating element I don't have
surface mount is great! you can use an appropriate hot air gun or toaster oven.
I have a good hot air gun
There are some guides around for doing surface mount with old toasters or an EZBake oven.
(btw, don't ever use the toaster oven for food afterwards)
You can do SMD with a soldering iron as well.
This is why you should organize your shop by color: look for blue tac in the blue section
L to R, top to bottom, right?
if this doesn't work, it's JP's fault
Lars telephone ring generator
What happens if you buy some that is yellow? π€
mix them together and file under green.
i have never actually seen blue blue tac. the kind i always find is white
Electrons prefer resistance from left to right. Holes, well I just donβt know.
So file it in the white section. π
here's the github if y'all are interested
https://github.com/MakeItHackin/TelephoneRinger
Same here. Blue Blu tac seems to be a UK thing?
I think it's an Aussie invention. π€
Those arenβt βcuttersβ any more.
Lol
Blu Tic.
yep, ground is flat
Flat side of LED: looks like flat side of diode symbol, looks like a "β" sign, is negative, also looks like a "cat" whisker, thus it's the "cat"hode
(insert flat-earther joke here)
Ground is flat, Earth is a sphere. π
flat-ish
That kit seems to suffer from a total lack of pink LEDs
i'm loving the vice
Thanks. π π
omg, this is my first time seeing a helping hand to hold the solder... that's great
You can get it from Adafruit ( PID 2452 )
The multiple talents of John Park.
Chipquik!
Oooh, the tip is a nice touch. The only solder pumps I've had were some kind of plastic that gets gnarled beyond recognition after a few usages.
Absolutely worth it.
two sided foam tape works real well for displays
JP, on the old phones, the "American" ring will have more success than the "British" Ring
those extra wires are fine
