@rocky reef The pruner stick was great, it was the buffering.
Pruner stick pruned the stream
the livestream totally got pruned! I'm reuploading the local recording, should be public within the hour
2 more hours! getting some popcorn ready?
I just have Salisbury steak pie
almost engineer time
better check that my shopping cart is ready for the secret code
I guess JP is taking us into the twilight zone tonight
Adabox Unboxing is tonight, folks. There won't be a discount code this evening.
what..... must hold my sniffles in
then will use this to cheer up, got a 555 plushy (2 actually) and new camera for creating videos
need to make a plushy family photo showing all of them
Yup!
Ohh, I forgot! I also forget, does the unboxing take over both S&T and AAE?
Nope, Show and Tell happens as usual!
I'll watch it and then can start planning for what to do with it
I think Hans the 555 timer got to close to the vicious rabbit that can rip a man out of his armor in seconds.
Lol
Hey y'll
Howdy everyone
yo
Hewwo!
good evening folks
Evening everybody
Good evening
Good evening
Hello everyone
Link to join to show and share your project: https://streamyard.com/rghg8rupdc
Haha, hi Jayy
Show AND Tell is this economy? 😆
whhaaaa
Good evening all you wonderful folks!
WE ARE LIVE! SHOW AND TELL! https://youtu.be/W1d0-NsCcU0
[twitch isn't live]
That's clever and cool and I love everything about it
Haha
I'm working on robots to talk to and hug and be friends
@north harness that jay-o-lantern is epic!
Baymax would take over the world with hugs
Feather RP2040, ItsyBitsy RP2040, QTPy RP2040... I love it :D
this is the breadboard kit he made
I started with CircuitPython and going backwards to Python and it's so helpful
You haven't used the pico long enough if you haven't miscounted the pins at least once
so true
I've mixed up sides XD
that is why I got the pico card
Simon Monk is such wonderful foundation of the modern microcontroller world -- so many people have been positively impacted by his work.
Ooo, the BLE code editor is looking great! Really nice mobile layout.
saving and loading over ble!
I just use another Pico to see where the pins are XD
That looks so great @sage aspen. Great work
Loving the ble workflow
Very nice @sage aspen !
Yay BLE!
Thank you
Pedro's cloaking device: active.
Hehehe, I love it
Given what the timestick does I'm worried for Pedro now
Pedro got accidentally pruned is walking the dog.
"Modular ABS block company"
Assistant developer 😺
amazing @rapid hornet
That's so much faster now
CPyOS
Module Abs company bring you abs when you need core strength
this the Pico card you can get at at adafruit
Brilliant
thanks folks!
Everyone is ready…
that was 480x270
To enter the twilight zone
low fi 16x9
I know I am
That was awesome @rapid hornet
That outside pyramid shell looks like the Aggro Crag from Guts. 🏔️
That's even more then you had on the C64
And all these amazing projects are taking me there
@cinder wind it's all displayio so I'm excited to see what you can do with it
mostly bouncing @haughty quiver heads, probably
I can’t wait till I get my TreeHouse Terminal board in and built up! 🙂
Will bring it on Show N Tell
nice!
Just in time for the blinkiest time of the year
>>> import gc
>>> gc.mem_free()
33162176
Ohhh nice
just cause I have it set to 32 megabytes
Das a lotta RAM!
I think you can fit in the standard blink program
Just enough Ram to blink some neopixels
yep few bytes to spare
But.. can it run doom?
Lol
Almost time to write the 100% Python RP2040 emulator so we can run RP2040 code in CircuitPython on the Raspberry Pi
🎃
I think it was @wil il that asked what the Raspberry Pi Pico at the end of the Sessions Call and what its like to work with it and without it being an hour or so discussion itself it was best to bring on here. Available Released Boards:- Raspberry Pi Pico Adafruit Feather RP2040 Adafruit ItsyBitsy 2040 SparkFun Pro Micro - RP2040 SparkFun Mic...
Someone lists off what they’ve seen done but I can’t find the video 😦
@teal river are you the doctor that was just on?
I am :D
I don't remember what I had for dinner....
Hold up! Not only is there a Doctor in the house but Bob’s your uncle!
cool. now I know who I'm bugging all the time
Did I have dinner?
What is...food?
Yay saving good items from the trash!
Taco Soup for dinner here
Food is the stuff you have with Dr. Pepper or Mountain Dew
I need a board named this, it’s decided
I'll have one too XD
Maybe it’s a stepper controller
Seems appropriate
writes down wigglebutt board idea
I should build a spoop box for Halloween
Love it @nova totem 💀 That is great
You totally should
@nova totem Nice Mark!
"good" lololol very cool @nova totem
Lovely spoop
Full instructions on building it are here: https://hackaday.io/project/182367-jump-scare-tombstone
Great stuff everyone. Thanks for sharing
Mine is Preparing for shipment, but I'mma watch tonight and join the chat fun!
Thanks @smoky island @woeful pond @split gazelle
spoop box? Something for dog walking?
Hi Limor! Hi pt! Great to see you! Happy halloween!
Thanks everyone for sharing your awesome projects!
Now, time to reconfigure time and space for JP's Workshop & L.A.R.S for Adabox 20 unboxing!
lil dancing skeleton. Ha ha ha. Cute
Why are we here?
Adjustment complete!
Charging the broadcast crystals...
Dividing by zero...
Error! Rolling back to previous universe...
Save file corrupted.
Installing new universe...
reticulating splines
All lifeforms have been reverted to the default: Lars clones.
Spoop bloops!
oooh the font
here we gooooooo
I hope it's all black and white 4:3
Do not adjust your stream, we control the horizontal and the vertical.
😵💫
can I adjust the Z axis?
the eyelight zone
black and white might not be the best for a product with rgb leds
Now we have all the time in the world to read!!!! holds up broken glasses
I still think of last years Adabox unboxing
you can adjust the Z axis by moving closer to screen
Box!
we interrupt your box video to bring you an important announcement

Hi!
🥡
herro 😄
I LOVE THIS.
The Twilight JP!
wow
anticipation intensifies
i will one day have the available funds to get an Adabox
Ahhhh this is awesome
Sterling impression
is that JP
NICE
LOL oh man! I knew it was gonna be great, but this is fantastic! 😂
for now, i enjoy the unboxing
Rod Serling, for those who weren't born in the 60s. 😄
giggles like a crazy person
the lars light zone
😵💫
who is that ? all I can see is eyebrows
the adabox zone?!?! 😄
How can anyone not have seen the original show?!
ahaha Jon Serling is perfect
nailed it again
👀
I don't think JP can do bad
👓
Me watching right now...
He's a chameleon, he can become any character!
Nailed it. Can't believe how close this is. Rod Serling was host of the Twilight Zone.
116 = 2 * 2 * 29. What will happen on February 2, 2029? It's a code.
@haughty quiver never fails to surprise with his costumes and production value
l love it! JP is just brilliant with these unboxings!!
happy halloween week yall!
"probably have your box by now".... sigh.
i'm glad i'm old enough to recognize the twilight zone theme
howling
It's the bighead guy.
It’s a cookbook!
yayyyyy always look forward to @haughty quiver halloween adabox unboxing, so good!!!
that's just what JP looks like without the makeup
also glad digikey exists in the twilight zone
the puppet, its eyes are following me !
JP!
last adabox took 11 days in UPS, so I knew I wasn't going to get this one by halloween when they mentioned issues last week
and adafruit as well
Original big-head alien for reference. So good.
@glossy void there is a supply chain and shipping crisis, we're doing the best we can and they are shipping, it takes a little longer than it was before the death and chaos over the last 18 months
Love the alien JP
if this is the worst thing ever, please pause the subscription / resume next year
The Twilight Box!
Congrats, @haughty quiver for routing around any costume/makeup supply chain issues.
I know. Thank you. I'm ... not complaining. But I can sigh. Definitely not mad about it!
i've used that tissue paper to stuff in gift bags
Yes save the paper and sticker!
next time let's just "ASMR adabox paper crinkling no dialog"
I'm one of the people who saves the paper and sticker. I haven't used any yet... The last one I got, the sticker wasn't attached on one side, so I was able to get the contents out without trying too hard XD
I love the pink bubble wrap
yeeee
JP is buggin' out!
🧋
i love the glasses so much
I hope I get the dragon.
@glossy void all good, there are people that are being jerks to our team so we're trying to manage expectations the best we can
When do the trades start?
nice job @proper trench on the design 🙂
trade with friends
oh no ! his glasses have a bug
@lilac tusk the graphics is all drag0n!
Love the knife action
and mr @low fractal
i did the routing, it was definitely a Thing. took many many hours to route - maybe the longest of any board we've done!
😄
YES so excited to get my box, the glasses look amaaaazing
the zip ties we have are not all the same, so folks might need to adapt them when the box arrives (supply chain issue)
He got the BundleFly glasses
LMAO!! SLAPPY!!
Well worth the work!
I'm going to have to work on my CP native framebuffer for these glasses.
I love these glasses ❤️
thank you! we wanted to make cool LED frames
we also had to work with what was available in the market
many components are 1 year lead time, so we had to figure out what 'ingredients' we had
excellent execution
I still don't have a set of the glasses for myself. Maybe someday soon.
and what we could make
Wow! That is amazing 😄
wow awesome box contents!
I think the chonk plastic frames was a clever work-around
I’ve got my non wearable from a couple of years ago to tide me over to delivery.
also, we designed the PCB after we got the plastic frames
is there a website that can take a list of parts and spit out a circuit you could make with em?
i'm just constantly impressed and inspired by how you've continued to make cool stuff despite the pandemic part shortages
its 'backwards' engineered from how you might think
zipties! shakes fist
ya for example we wanted a color TFT originally for macropad - but couldn't get any. so found an OLED
I'm sure someone can design a 3D printed clip to attach the board to the frames
That explains a lot though, they fit perfectly, and they're pretty comfortable too
yeah, TFTs are hard to get right now
there was a real fly there
these frames aren't too shabby if you're into the 3d printing https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4970785
3D print a frame for Adafruit LED Glasses IS31FL3741. Use any Adafruit Feather compatible board to control the LED Glasses. The Feather is secured to the arm with M2.5 x 6mm screws and hex nuts. The two arms are secured to the frame with M2.5 x 14mm long machine screws and hex nuts. The frame is secured to the LED glasses PCB with M3 x 6mm long ...
i was lucky to find good ones on Aliexpress
🪰
Oh yeah! I got some of those printed. I think my head is too big for those though 😢
Vincent Price, the Fly
The 3d printed frames are real easy to print/assemble too
Ohh, that would have been cool... But the OLED is still really nice. Maybe another revision after everything stops being insane?
I cheated, and ordered the individual parts as soon as they were available, which I tend to do when a new Adafruit product first comes available. # protip
The chonky frames were more comfortable for me
Let's put a breakout game on your face.
FUN FACT: the 'frames' are also known as 'kpop fashion frames'
ahhhahaha I am still accidentally scaring myself with the little roach that came in the October box like 2 years ago 😅
@grand tusk honestly that idea is amazing and I'd love to see it
I would use red/blue 3D glasses for that ! I have a few laying around
they are (apparently) all the rage in k-pop singers/fans
That fly walking around on JP's bench was creepy
Now I can be kpop star
i'm glad kpop is providing value to the maker community lol
That's a good costume idea! Maybe with a few papier maché bricks
I watched an entire show and tell through the glasses, you can see pretty good
I really hope I get the cat or dragon
I have been wanting these since the 1st hint. so excited to get my box. once it has passed the preparing for shimpment status
i hope i get the cat, or the wolf. or the dragon. or the bug.
sask, verrry sooooon!
I like the little rubber flys
So all this talk about dinosaurs was a red herring?
This demon sounds like a robot :O
ah cool
i'm hoping my job will give me a big enough pay raise to get the next adabox
From a memorable Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner.
🪰
I would pay extra for velociraptor
ability to keep appendages with the velociraptor not guaranteed
It probably turns you into a raptor
lol
made a real mess of the stored packaging
This is what happens when you try to play God!
They're clever from what I hear.
oopsie!
nom nom nom
also, velociraptors are not ESD safe
I see, you had to shoooooot her shoooooot her
touched everything, now we have to re-test the boards 😦
Life always find a way
i heard packing peanuts are good for calming velociraptors
but not so great for the environment or ESD
the acceloraptors are ESD safe though
Anti-static packing peanuts
note you can use LiPoly with the EYELIGHTS
but you hvae to solder the jumper on the back
Thankfully, JP sent Lars to intervene and stop the velociraptor.
this is so folks dont need to have a lipoly near their face - its better for kids too
The gyroraptors can get dizzy.
Considering how often children whap their faces into things, I would feel better not giving them a LiPo to potentially damage
How do you find a velociraptor?
Distanceraptor divided by the timeraptor.
yeah, agreed

or the derivative of the acceleraptor
I still haven't hacked on the CLUE board because it came with the PERFECT DEMO!
dodges flying calculus book
Good LED videography, @haughty quiver ! Always a challenge.
So what was the reason for the glasses being random? Too much logistically to make each option separately available?
scrolling letters look nice on it
I mean for regular orders
i bet it's more fun
never truly knowing what you get
any idea how long the LED glasses runs on the 3 A batteries? (and yeah, definitely safer than LiPo)
Random can be fun, and it does encourage trading and making friends XD
@outer siren 6-8 hours
like going to get a kids meal. you don't know if you'll get a new kids meal toy or ones they couldn't get rid of 2 years ago
thanks!
it does depend on how many you light up and the 'brightness' setting
but many hours
honestly, i'm not impressed with humanity as a whole so full brightness it is
🔅 🔆
a broken escalator is still stairs
a broken ziptie is still a plastic lashing
we spent some time trying to figure out how to do 'hinged' PCBs but mr ladyada had the idea to use a 'substrate' glasses and it works waaaaaaaay better
A USB battery pack, and a USB A to USB C cable is a sustainable, rechargeable option that could provide more hours of wear. https://www.adafruit.com/product/4474
glasses hinges are way fiddlier than i like, to work with
@slow spire you can also use NiMH batts!
I feel like using PCB for the arms and nose bridge might have not been as comfortable as the polished plastic of the frames you chose
The substrate glasses is a pretty great solution. Temple pieces need to bend to the head a bit, hard for PCBs to do
yah thats the other thing, these have a nice wide nose bridge
and definitely trim those ends so you don't put an eye out.
great choice honestly
Maybe 4 NiMH?
you can do 3 or 4 nimh
these glasses would be great for like a Masquerade
AAA batteries are pretty nice, we like those
And now there are four zip tie tails randomly scattered in JP's workshop....
Which is creepier, Lars or the guy with the red bow tie?
(that's the secret of nimh)
or for expressing yourself at thanksgiving...
Just four?
The only issue I see is if you depend on prescription glasses already, I have some magnifiers for my glasses that have a small rubber clamp that goes over my nose bridge. Might look at moding the glasses to have that
Lars
scroll passive-aggressive messages on your glasses at family reunions
chonky
I'd imagine those frames would fit over most glasses
these are the Chunkiest KPop Glasses money can buy
i have some chonky glasses but these look like they would fit great
have to test not everyone has same head size
The controller board is nice. I'm gonna try the FunHouse.
One size fits most
we tested two head sizes. me (small) and mr ladyada (large)
cool
Under my workbench: those plus DuPont connectors, bits of header, wire insulation, lead-free solder balls, hot glue, and who knows what else.
What about nobbly heads?
iz ok
and now, it's tested with a JP size head
cool!
imma use a big inductive coil to power the glasses. and hire a guy to walk in front of me to blast my face with EM waves
They seem to fit JP fine, but I have no idea where he fits in the spectrum of human scale
JP is a standard-sized human
Whoa that dance out
dang moves
That's what I suspected, but I couldn't tell if he was 5'5" or 6'5", lol
lol
HAHAHAA
JP has transformed!
oh no JP!
I saw that episode of Twilight Zone
reverted
A neck strap would be great for a place to hang the battery pack! So It is clipped at the back of ur neck.
... turns out we were the ugly ones the whole time
@cinder wind Correct!
Whatever silkscreen design you get, your face’ll stick like that.
Alien medical staff from Twilight Zone.
Hehehehe]
😂
Yay!
I can't watch tonight - I don't want spoilers, since mine hasn't even shipped yet, but it's nice to see Odd Jayy on Show and Tell 😂
Wow! great unboxing.
JP the tri-eye guy!
hahahahaa
lol
👏
hahahahaha
WOW that was amaaaazing
lol
LOL 😂
The amount of spirit gum used tonight 🙂
wasn't expecting that
YAY!
bwahaha
SO GOOOD JP
Hey even Lars has glasses!
If you have extra zipties you can fix that XD
From Twilight Zone episode, "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?"
thanks everyone these are always giant effort, and it's been the hardest time to do adabox over the last 18 months, we appreciate the support 🙂
shakes fist at plague and world economic reboot
wow. who would have thought that zip ties would be so hard to get? this is crazy.......
all the catastrophes
thanks Adafruit for continuing to bring great products regardless
A Iomega Zip Disk is not an appropriate substitute for zip ties.
do not use velociraptor to attach LED glasses
(if you happened to get the one dino raptor)
hehe
So there's literally one of them?
whoa!
missed opportunity for a 3rd glasses lense
will they die?
i mean, the box will be larger than usual
maybe..
so they'll know
crosses all fingers and limbs

will they have fun?
yes super fun
I miss having a raptor in the house
great way to get ahead on the holiday weight loss plans
Ooooooh 🦖
ooooo, UPS notification -- I have a box 6ft tall, 3 feet wide, and several hundred pounds from Adafruit! They're holding it at the depot, which now is hiring for all positions after an unfortunate....accident involving a dinosaur?
@proper trench @open girder Now that Adabox 20 has been revealed, when you all have a free moment 🙂 maybe a writeup of the hurdles, especially parts availability, would be good for the blog
Thanks @low fractal for code & cool silkscreen!
@slow spire we chat about part shortages and difficulties on desk of ladyada
@cinder wind Rawr!
@slow spire yah, we'll talk about it for sure 🙂
but its definitely "Fun"
I watch every episode.
and "Exciting"
we have learned to order the 'rare' parts very early
and then tell people about it
Scarcity and limitations breed innovation and creativity!
ooh
ding ding!
i have the last 9 of a 3.3V buck that i use
with... nov 2022 lead times..
super fun
I think Adafruit has navigated the maelstrom pretty dang well
for this box, we happened to already have nrf52840 modules on hand
@proper trench and by "rare" that includes zip ties, eh? 😂
and we could not do TFTs, but wanted to do 'eyes'
the zip ties were an exciting "something got swapped after it was approved" type thing
heh
Yeah, that's why I order interesting new Adafruit products when they come out, even if I don't have an immediate plan for them. I've done that since the before time. 🙂
I would imagine that being very frustrating...
same lol
At least zipties are something that you can get cheap and easy
but you folks always end up pulling it off even in the toughest of times! Kudos!
Well, if they're in stock...
tbh you can use twine/wire
I'd probably use wire if I didn't have zipties
Harbor Freight, Home Depot, Lowes, etc carry zip ties of all sorts and sizes 🙂
but yah baiscally these latest adaboxes had to do without SAMDs and no TFT
green pipe cleaners
It's like a bucket of water :O
breadboard solid-core wire works great as impromptu twist-ties
so thats sorta 'dictated' the designs. we happened to have RP2040's on hand from an early order - so macropad was RP2040
I love that HD carries neon zip ties, very stylish!
This would 100% match a bug mask
For when you're already at the rave but really need to secure something
we are basially shipping a kickstarter every 3 months, so its interesting to see what can be done
rp2040 has been a big thing propping my operation up
Other options to zip ties to consider could include hot glue, double-sided foam super-strong VHB tape, and, um... rubber bands.
it's the only thing i can get all the parts for..
for this box, we knew that 2020 RGB LEDs were not affected by the silicon shortage. so once we secured the LED driver chips, we were 'good to go'
RP2040 is life, RP2040 is love
Ah, math.
@proper trench I think you have been completely rocking it.
thank you @glossy void !
i have a whopping 20 SAMD21 left from a previous product run
Are NeoPixels affected by the shortages?
Yeah, congrats, @proper trench !
we have been seeing many many maker companies struggle - if you need a part and you cant get it...you may not get it till 2023
prepping some new boards with those..
kind of sad it won't make halloween tho 😦
I'm really glad I had my work buy 5 pis 2 months ago
The good news is, creepy LED costuming is NEVER out of season.
Imagine waiting for supply-chain issues only to watch your goods go up in flames...
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/environmental-concerns-container-ship-fire-1.6224957
and the yield is not as good
but ya know.. i can prototype but no launches until maybe middle of next year
so the 116 LEDs would overwhelm the BOM pricing
JP's got skills!
so rp2040 it is. not sure how much more creative you can get lol
And I wouldn't be surprised if certain NeoPixels and DotStars are impacted.
Lol, I gotta watch goosebumps later. Gotta love slappy!
I was looking at some parts lists for electronics textbooks -- and it's almost impossible to get any one entire list.
eventually yes neopixels will be impacted
i need to order another reel
oh no Lars looks angry. he never looks angry //s
Buy everything now
another thing is...tbh, i would not like to make a board with 116 neopixels - one bad pixels will take out the full design
i've got like 500 left..
wait, can i just stop by JP's place and borrow one of the glasses until mine get here?
oh lars
...i see LED people...
where as with a matrix design, if an LED breaks off, the rest work
also, the quiescent current for neopixels is 1ma per
Lars is mildly less terrifying behind those glasses...
power dissipation of neopixels is a lot
My CC was charged for the adabox last week but it hasn't shipped yet. Is that to be expected? I realize you're running late and that's ok, but it seems like the CC wouldn't be charged until shortly before shipping. But if not then i'll stop worrying.
so most of your power would kill
@upbeat matrix yes we charge all the cards at once, but we're shipping over the next week(s)
I did see a WS2812 or APA102C variant somewhere that had some dead pixel protection. (I'm sure you're all over those variants.)
i had to put a disclaimer not to run above 50% power because the heat of 50 sk6812mini at full power and color saturation desoldered the whole board
yah they are hot
granted, the person had it face down on a table
but basically there's a lot of reason not to use neopixels, een tho it would have made the routing a looooooooot easier
yeah
yeah I think these photograph well too

Very nice ada-unboxing, @haughty quiver !
NOT A SINGLE THIRD EYE BLIND JOKE. Not impressed.
NICE WORK JP - looking great
Now with these new glasses, I'll be able to read all the books I want! 📚 👓
ROFL
good work JP!
Triclops glasses when?
Nice...

DigiKey Rocks!
DIGIKEY SHIPPED EVERYTHING ON TIME AND PERFECTLY 🙂
@haughty quiver Epic Unboxing John!
Fantastic show John Park !!! 👁️
standing ovation to @haughty quiver
Thank you @open girder and @haughty quiver
YAY
great show @haughty quiver ! thanks @proper trench and @open girder and @low fractal for a great show, great product, and design, and just amazing content and products in general!
Thanks JP!
YAY!
THANK YOU FOR BEING PATIENT EVERYONE! ITS A GREAT BOX AND WORTH THE WAIT
Thanks JP and everyone at Adafruit! 😄
Thanks to ALL for giving us your time
thanks!
Thank you, @haughty quiver ! So much fun and awesomeness!
TIME ENOUGH FOR ADABOX AT LAST
I shall now resume my repeated refreshing of the orders page to see if my box shipped yet
Thanks, @haughty quiver ! Once again, you up the character/costume/makeup game.
Well Done, Mr @haughty quiver. Very fun!
@haughty quiver @proper trench Nice presentation. Thank you all
Gtreat job
Thanks all, this was tons of fun!
JP, master of references!
Sweet! I can't wait to get my hands on mine. 😄
@low fractal great designs!
Thanks @open girder and
for another excellent adabox.
Better than the Twilight Zone
🙂
And thanks, @proper trench and @open girder for making these fun projects happen, even in these times!
we'll cover some of the Exciting Challenges we have with adabox on Desk of Ladyada
sometimes the electronics engineering is the easiest part
@opaque hearth Thank you!
Something that might be fun for a different version -- having a full mask with LEDs and awesome themed silkscreens. Imagine a full face dragon mask with LEDs on the horns and stuff for animation!
Another excellent unboxing @haughty quiver! Nice fly wrangling, as well.
Someone tell JP that the flies were not on the BOM.
Not the real ones anyway...
Kinda wondering how Apple is getting the M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBooks out the door with their complicated BoMs.
@teal river. I saw a full face led mask that adafruit sells made by a third party
I mean, a few unavailable parts could lead to forced board revisions.
Well, I think they had already allocated the slots for their chips before things really hit the fan... And they probably can outbid everybody and buy what they need if push comes to shove. They might also have a number of sources that sell to them before anyone else
The one that kinda looks like a fencing mask?
While it's UPS fault and not adafruit's, in the last 2+ years or so ground shipping time across the country has crept up and up, I generally don't get my box before the unboxing video goes up anymore. Used to be I'd get get adafruit orders in like 3 days.
Is that what you mean? https://www.adafruit.com/product/4845
Change your face with this unique LED mask, like it's the return of the classic Nicholas Cage/John Travolta action classic, Face/Off!Be whomever you want. This Face Changing mask uses ...
Yeah
I haven't gotten any AdaBox before the unboxing, but this is only my 3rd one
And I'm in Philly, and apparently they start shipping the furthest orders first to maximize the chance they get it in time, but... Y'know, life is life and things happen
As long as it gets here that's all I really care about
Ya exactly @teal river It'll be more then worth the wait, & better to be patient & wait then to not get it.
I know they were shipping the international ones first, don't know if they try to manage the US ones that way. It isn't just distance, but depends on what distribution centers are closest. The 3ish days I used to get orders in shows that, I think they took a direct path from NY to CA, but those days seem to be gone
Wha is the discount on the card?
Always!
@haughty quiver Epic Unboxing!!
He was really in the zone tonight.
For adafruit to try to get everyone their boxes close to the same time, it would be complicated. Probably have to retrieve actual ship times to everyone, group by zip code or something, and ship in order of where takes longest.
@proper trench @open girder have you considered making a secondary board for the AdaBox 020 LED driver board that could connect via the stemma plug but have all of the solder pads of a regular board?
Like a Seesaw board?
The Twilight Zone intro I most remember:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORbseYAkzRM
You are about to enter another dimension.
—THE NARRATOR
You could technically use any Adafruit microcontroller board that has a Stemma port and battery charger
FeatherGlasses
I think the FeatherS2 has some nice capabilities
Could use the upcoming Feather ESP32-S2 for WiFi enabled ones :D
Feather RP2040 would be good
Or a FeatherS2 if you don't need Feather compatible pinout
GrandCentral glasses
Lots of opportunities really
You can also solder a STEMMA cable to an ItsyBitsy RP2040 or Pico
But not be able to take advantage of all of the processing power & stuff that has been packed on to the driver board.
@ivory kiln This might be an option: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4516
This breakout board is a "three in one" product:The ATtiny817 is part of the 'next gen' of AVR microcontrollers, and now we have a cute development/breakout board for it, ...
I'm thinking of with how narrow that board is, yet so capable. It's a rare combination. A complimenting board like I'm taking about could really help in making smaller more space constrained projects.
@ivory kiln What's on your list of priorities for such a board?
The project that is at the head of my thinking are Doctor Who sonic screw drivers. There so narrow, that
sorry missed y'all live today. I just wanted to day the whole idea of Jibo, the robot I co-invented, was to be a friendly, non military robot!
& I'm sure people could think of lots of other prop ideas well beyond Doctor Who too.
@ivory kiln https://www.adafruit.com/product/4481
That's cool @teal river are you going to be able to mas produce & sell them? or just a few for you.
ItsyBitsy's are 0.7"/18mm wide
I can't click on notifications
I suppose I could mass produce? But I was planning on just doing a couple for myself. Probably will open source it
I have one of those, I'm guessing that board is more powerful, & capable.
I'm gonna try for under 10mm wide
@ionic garnet There was an Adabox unboxing tonight, during the time normally allotted for Ask an Engineer.
Nothing currently live
Yeah I missed that. I am CTO of 2 companies and I got a panicked CEO call. Then had to interview a Python engineer in Vietnam

it's the same chip as the glasses one, same power, bunch of pins, no on-board sensors
no battery port
Wow!
Ya, was thinking of being able to take advantage of all of it. Processing power, & all those sensors.
actually the glasses driver might be the only nrf52840 board with a stemma connector
ah there's the clue too
Where's Ladyada's silver play button for reaching 100k subs on YT?
they should have a 3D printed play button with blinky LEDs
I agree
PCB play button?

New Pi, me oh my!!!!
I was playing with blinka a bit, was able to get the basics running 🐍
Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is here! Sign up to be notified when it's in stock! https://adafruit.com/piz2w
New pi!

Ahhhhh!!! Excite!!!
512MB RAM: not much for Linux, awesome for CircuitPython.
Are the Deep Dive topics of the last few weeks based on a different pi? Or do they use the same chip?
I've been working on the pi 4
which is a newer chip
I fully intend on supporting the chip from the pi 3 though
it shouldn't be toooooo different
thanks!
It'll just mean I have more deep dives to do
Yay 🙂
Howdy all
Greetings, all.
hi!
Lol
Hello!
I was up last night when Lady Ada went live with the Pi Zero W 2 vid. I got on the waiting list immediately!
Hey JP
please standby while I deal with technical malfunction
say what? Technology never fails!
they wouldn't launch software if it wasn't rock solid
right?
guess it depends what type of rock we are talking about
system audio went cablooie
oy. I always have a backup audio interface not too far away
but won't help if system prob
The internets have been max flaky this week.
cablooie is technical description of most common problem on interwebs
remnants of watching Batman as a kid in the 60s/70s
Where's the kaboom? There's supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom...
probably more of a whoopsie

Jack-O-Lars
@inner spade How are things going with you. Have not seen you on line in a while.
I am so unhip I don't get the Lars references. I thought he was the drummer in Metallica. Scary dude he
or perhaps I'm too hip
Lars is all the rage.
Hey JP! Feeling under the weather, so this is the perfect treat!
Larsfluenza
Going very well. Lots of projects and deadlines. How are you?
Love the Beasties!!!!
Pretty Good
working good
Microphone audio is very good, smooth and in sync, peaking at -6dB.
more important, JP's hair is perfect
JP saying hello from SE PA
all Atom-based right?
unboxing was awesome
So excited for my AdaBox!
I caught it 30 mins delayed
nope
it's the worst thing that's ever happened to me! JK
Love the puppy
Nice costume, JP. You look nearly human!
Rod Serling from Twilight Zone.
Thanks 🙂
"to serve man" -- I was in some gifted program as a 5th grader and read that story in class
and the lottery short story with the bridge
Love this music, honestly
Keyboard shortcuts are great when they work, which is maybe 1/2 of the time
Excellent timing - since @haughty quiver asked, I just got my AdaBox shipping notification 🎉
My desk right now. Neopixel much Rich?
visible envy
Colorful, it is.
thanks. This is 1/8 of currently deployed animations in my office. Getting sunburn
At least it's a good way to get a sunburn!
I've been doing experiments in diffusion

Grogoo. I think
I wonder if that could work for vacuforming. HDPE I mean.
nice
The Cylon animated BMP is the best
That's 3 more pairs of LED glasses than I have!
The status of my ADABox is Preparing for Shipment
@sterile forge hope it ships soon! 🤞
I do too!!
me too
would love to wear my led glasses to inspire all the kiddies to become fellow nerds!
on Halloween
JP lives in this magical realm where Halloween stores are open year-round
Lurch? Is that you? 😄
what, no Lurch emoticon?
You Rang Again.
I'm inside the house

I think John is about to give us a Big Clive moment.
Pi 0 2 is in stock @ adafruit!
No not the W
To doorbell is hacking you!
Oops yes I see it now, sorry
You use the Fran Blache method of re-inserting the screws. Then they last longer.
he removes the batteries and unscrews the back. There's a stirring behind him. The doorbell rings...
I love iFixit
That's just Lars.
phew. I thought it was something terrifying
Lol
I've not found any online hacking resources for that Gemmy Eyeball Doorbell, but this fellow is a real connoisseur of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNWwoTDrIEg
I have 17 right now. Enjoy this massive doorbell chaos haha.
wow
Huh, quite a lot of hand assembly needed for the internals of that
That melted milk jug skull making sounds pretty cool!
is there a screw under the pcb?
YES
"maybe time to pull the eyeball out" what you don't want to hear from your eye doctor
I think the "maybe" is the most unsettling part of that sentence!
lars mask lets go
I made a cool thing for a friends Halloween costume a few years ago. He took a box and painted it to look like it was lead . He wanted yellow/orange LEDs at the bottom and he put Jolly Rancher over them so that they glowed as if they were radio active. I also added a processor and a speaker to add random clicks like a geiger counter. It was pretty cool.
Jolly Ranchers as LED diffusers is brilliant. I'm totally stealing that
Sticky diffusion ftw.
@cinder wind That's why I posted it. It was really easy and it looked awesome.
four transistors on there, two per motor, two per motor per direction (forward, backward)
some spooky thing if you know brain worm from clone wars
Right now I'm working on using el-wire to make a lightning effect. If you pair white&blue or white&purple and flash them really fast (white on for 20ms followed by the other one for 20 ms), it really look like lightning. Sparkfun has a shield to control 8 el-wires and I got an Metro ESP32-S2 from Adafruit and wires the el-wires where I could find them. I'm putting it together after this cast.
@eager matrix Cool.
Printed this today to make I easy to solder the connectors.
While this isn't strictly a remix, I wanted to give "idig3d" credit for the inspiration. I created a soldering helping hands http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1635453 but when I saw idig3d's version, I liked the simplicity and faster build time. I thought I'd create one that was similar but had additional grooves and a tapered top. Here is my int...
I remember always taking things apart when I was a kid. I don't think I ever really put them back together back then though lol
same
If ever I did it, the thing never quite worked the same.
I'll totally do show and tell next week. How do I get in the queue?
Hang out in this channel before Show and Tell, and then click on the StreamYard link that will be posted when it begins.
Awesome thanks.
If it says the queue is full, keep trying throughout - folks will often drop off after they show their project, which clears up a space.
Saw this a few days ago - https://www.hackster.io/zachary_fields/boo-lues-fire-breathing-pumpkin-8639e7
hey it still works!
Thanks, @haughty quiver 😀
bye JP
👋
thanks!
did they do an ask an engineer last night? i can't find any of the wed shows for yesterday on youtube
Show and Tell was followed by the Adabox Unboxing. There was no AaE.
Thanks @haughty quiver! I enjoy these hands-on project sessions. Have a great Halloween!
thanks kindly @inner spade! Have a spooky one!
@haughty quiver As much as I look forward to receiving my Adabox I just as much can't wait for Adabox unwrap show with John. Absolute perfect Rod Serling and I'm still haveing a laugh about the Rocky Horror unwrap.
@haughty quiver OK I should have said unboxing.....oh my dizzy brain.
I miss Henry and June
thanks so much! Have fun with your AdaBox when it arrives.
keeps refreshing page
Me too @teal river me too
So working on my Hallowing Friend instead. Thought I might put it in the https://learn.adafruit.com/hallowing-tombstone but that doesn't work with the dome which I love, or into a foam punkin, or a squishmallow. Right now Rockwell only has a small purple case and cannot sit up on her own. I think she deserves more, don't you?
Maybe this could be converted easily? https://learn.adafruit.com/purple-people-eater
Doesn't have to be a doorbell. Looks like the dome fits?
Haha, that would work
I'm sure @hard hollow is too busy to change the model to snap fit in the Hallowing M0, right? 😉

Deep Dive w/Scott for October 29th, 2021 Hi all, this doc is try and track topics and timecodes for my deep dive stream. These notes will end up in the YouTube video’s description. Any help keeping them groomed as I stream is welcome. Housekeeping I’m sponsored by Adafruit to work on CircuitPyt...
I can hear this
Will probably miss most of today. Out getting my ski boots fitted.
I think that’s the first sky in weeks.
LOL
ok ! scott dressed up and so did all of adafruit, enjoy 🙂 https://flickr.com/photos/adafruit/albums/72157720137899105
This is wholesome
a talking dinosaur !
Hi all from Cornwall
THIS is Great fun!
before things really get goig... for testing that PR locally (that flash stuff) do I simply point the module to my repo/branch, update, then compile and test the hardware?
Just on the other side of beefwall?
@rapid hornet has a costume that runs circuitpython
a talking Blinka !
nice costume
@lilac tusk mostly Vegans here, except me.
is the cat scared of snakes?
Nice!
thanks. great costume!
if you can do the whole deep dive in those glasses i will truly be impressed
any hope of getting eye tracking interface to the glasses
And Blinka is the costume the RUNS circuitpython (in a processing sense)
Hewwo! Is that a Blinka kigurumi?!?!
Hola from Florida ! :-D
is it just accelerometer now ?
I watched/participated in show and tell in them, 30 minutes was about my limit before my eyes were buggy
Looks comfy ❤️
Hehe, the rubber band is nerdy and I love it
File an issue with your head 😆
Oh, nice wardrobe @rapid hornet !!!!
There would then be is much more then 1 issue to file!
does the eye 'filter out' the LED grid on the glasses?
@rapid hornet the costume is just plain awesome. Thank you, Becca!
that's a great costume
ok - the brain eventually see without the horizontal lines that the LED frame puts in front of your eyes
is that a character I should know?

I kept seeing it cause while you can see it does cover quite a bit of your vision
wait @rapid hornet I thought you were going to dress up in a costume
ahhh you're blinka! That's a character I should know. Didn't catch the emoji connection
I'm working on a cool el-wire lightning effect that I'm going to wear tonight. I'll prob do show&tell with it on Wed.
Found a very similar one https://www.4kigurumi.com/purple-dinosaur-kigurumi-halloween-onesie
Oh No! Blinka ate Scott!
Gaze following is going to need a camera in front of the eyes and some compute power, so… let’s just be happy with accelerometer uses.
Man, the eye movements seem so natural
Love the costume!
Scott shed his human skin for the true being underneath.
Howdy all! Hope everyone's having a fun day!

Did anyone order a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W?
to be true Blinka, you can't use your arms during this deep dive
I tried
@digital crescent mine arrives tomorrow :o
nice, what are you going to use it for?
This is Blinka, because Barney does indeed have a green belly.
When I get one, I'll use it for a cyberdeck
@digital crescent some kind of little midi controller and noise maker
definitely don't want to infringe on barney's IP, he's ruthless
Excellent… would enjoy for Blinka support on Pi Zero 2w
I wonder why it's LPDDR2 and not LPDDR3
So the RAM was the customization by Raspberry Pi Foundation?
Probably price and space
That'd be fair, LPDDR3 is probs still a fair bit more expensive...
I have a small camera build that could be duplicated with a Zero2 upgrade
Doubt the increased bus speed of LPDDR3 would be usable?
I'd love if they came out with a Zero that went all out on efficiency with newer parts
Only your tail then?
Also a consideration is if the MPU supports LPDDR3
@rapid hornet but the USB is still not a full USB right, still just OTG? Like it can't detect a device swap like in the ZeroW ?
Or if as mentioned, it would not be able to be fully utilized
USB HOST YES
what's a device swap ?
I think the lower end of LPDDR3 and higher end of LPDDR2 match up, so bus speed probs wouldn't be an issue
This is the big thing. I thought the 3 had LPDDR3, but turns out it does not
Ah, the trading company! Thank you for the clarification @rapid hornet
I found this cool thing on Thingiverse and it fantastic.
Yeah, I’m surprised a lot of MPU don’t support LPDDR3 or better
Though, for an SBC it’s not always that critical or even that much of a big deal for their applications
I would love to help get USB MIDI host working on TinyUSB
I have a DOS machine I use for writing retro things
Oscar winning? I’m confused.
He wrote Oscar winning movies
Not that dune won Oscar’s
“Zork” clone in CircuitPython!
I totally read that headline wrong.
Haha, it happens
welcome back 🙂
Have you always wanted to upgrade your ensemble with a creepy-cool creature PCB silkscreen and an eye-blistering arrangement of LEDs? We love to put NeoPixels on our face, as evidenced by ...
EyeLights yes
grrr I'm trying to help, bot!
Since it would have had to be the 1984 David Lynch version. Or an Emmy for the SyFy mini-series(es)
Scott is escaping from Blinka's tummy!
"Make things work" things are highly underrated. Rubber bands, Duct Tape, Glue, Binder clips, etc
Blinka stillsuit
This are the things that hold the universe together
