Sounds like an Excel game.
Is it collecting bit coin?
What is your target hardware? Or you are going to port that to PyGamer?

Some idea for porting...
Looking good. Have a nice weekend!
Thanks all. Have a great weekend everyone 🎉
Desk of Ladyada - Camera Breakout + Autofocusing Firmware https://youtu.be/RHw7oisq0pA
Last week we took a look at an OV5640 camera sample that had a voice-coil auto focus motor inside. At the time we didn't get it working, turns out the breakout we were using had some shorted connection to the VM pins. We happened to have a camera breakout PCB we're working on so we put one together and found that with a little wiring we could fo...
Hey 👋
Hello
Cameras!
QUESTION: is this coming to circuit Python? Can I assume most new products will be?
yerp, this is circuitpython
Cool!
and open source as always
Oh I see the REPL in the background now
Adafruit, kicking down the closed source doors and liberating usage through open source
tryin
I love it. I'm the engineering department at work, and this open source sharing community is wonderful
all good, there are jerks that say we're not open source no matter what we do, so we're just going to keep doing open source
I love what Adafruit is doing for open source
A startup I’m working on, I’m pushing that our finished consumer/amateur market products will be open sources (hardware/software)
i'm sure open source does not work for everyone, but it for sure works for our community, customers, and us
bartlebeats had a kiddo?
Congrats to them!
@glossy flicker yep!
Woop! Major congrats! 🎉
🙂
Night all!
Congrats to bartlebeats!
How about this idea? Route out the area of the camera so that the back of the camera is exposed on the back of the board. Then find a heat sink that is large enough to be stuck to the back of the board. And lastly stick the camera directly to the heat sink. Better?

hello!
Hi!

Feel-O-Vision (c) 2014-2021 Adafruit Industries
Question: can I hook up a 120W subwoofer to this driver?
yes
Can you? Sure! Is it gonna work? I dunno!
Direct audio control sounds wild
Lol, they're strong little things
Question for JP. Hey can you tell me what the product is on the 2nd and far right ? (Last item) Is it a feather?
put this at the bottom of a halloween candy dish
2nd row
Ohh, clever
i can hear you
Oooh neat
Bzzz!
good mix
but can it be Eurorack
Very fun demo, @haughty quiver !
I'mma put one of these into a project I'm working on using a cell phone's casing :O
Can Address be configured?
wha? That's not Lars!
Going to put one on a Eurorack panel.
@haughty quiver
Can I2C address be configured (to support multiple haptic drivers) ? Or, would TCA9548A 1-to-8 I2C Multiplexer Breakout be needed?
Yay! Thanks JP!

I don't see any address jumpers, unfortunately
@rotund marsh yes, this doesn't have address jumpers, so i think you could do it with i2c multiplexer
Or if your MCU has two I2C busses you could have one on each bus
pretty sure I2C address of DRV2605L is fixed https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/drv2605l.pdf

Wireless LEDs are a snap.
Nice work guys!

adding these to the stranger things kit would be amazing
I wonder if the induction coil will work as a rectangle or a triangle shape
we all have suggestions PT
"We go both ways: wired and induction!"
Y'all are friends with Adam?!?! I'd love to see him come on here and show something off!
there has been some real cool lego projects lately being lit up, adds something totally new
It would be super extra cool to have small coils in a gauntlet so you could walk around and the stones would glow without some background
yay for modularity!
make it all snap fit! I love snap fits now
I should get one of those sensors and put it in my watch

@split gazelle Good progress! Which sensor was that again?
Ohhh, beautiful views

Well... when one is available XD
Ohhh, saw
it's a really fantastic sensor
When i turn off for the day and turn back on the next day, I struggle to remember my settings too 🙂
Lol
Simple, inexpensive, elegant!
Nice! great practical solution!
The SCD41 is pretty much the same, if that's around.
Could also have a little display and buttons if you wanted to be able to adjust the timeout and see how long is left on the timor
That's currently out of stock too, but I'll add it to my notifications. Is the 41 more sensitive or something?
Wider range, but CircuitPython doesn't support the wider range anyway, so they're basically the same.
IIRC.
I looked that that - it's ALMOST right. You need to start the timer on an off signal, so you'd need some kind of inverter... plus I had all these parts around 🙂
A landing pad for alien spaceships? Indeed.
Ahh... Only a $10 difference, so if that one comes in stock first, I'll grab that first. Thanks!

Not typically in SAN/networking/server cabinets, but telco is an entirely different beast.
Question: Do y'all have company titles?
QUESTION: The induction ring can it be a square/rectangle/triangle shaped and still work.
Here’s kind of a random question but if you could tell yourself from three years ago any advise, what would it be?
Question: I understand the difference between different real-time clocks is typically precision. If I am creating a simple clock using matrix LEDs or concentric rings. Is the less expensive PCF8523 enough? I’m trying one now and also have a couple of other more precise/expensive RTCs.I don’t need precision past +- a second or two.
I'm pretty sure most EU countries use DIN rails in standard circuit breaker panels
Question: Is there a way to switch power off/on through a thin plastic enclosure? I have a LiPo battery (and backpack+ItsyBitsy) inside a plastic 'thing', but no way of turning it all on/off. Thinking a magnet might do it.
Question: Our neighborhood has had an increase in late night crime. I am looking to do some Analysis, what would be the best light sensor for “mapping” readings around our neighbors.. anything that would go into very low Lumens? Wide range of values ?
I like flat. Cat Wrangler and Blinka Shirt Wearer are my favorites
@ionic garnet yeah, the precision is the major difference from my experience. How many seconds per day or month can it gain/lose, usually stated in "parts per million"
Question: Is there any disadvantage to leaving print statements in your code if your project will NOT be connected to serial when in use?
relax and enjoy
we're pretty spoiled by how our phones are synchronized to super precise clocks, but really if it's for the equivalent of an analog wall clock even a few minutes here or there isn't too important
right
Precision != accuracy -- precision is how fine of a unit you're measuring [seconds, microseconds, nanoseconds], accuracy is how close you are or how low your drift is [+/-1 second over the course of an hour, or over the course of a day, week, month, etc.]
Ok, I can leave my half-print code as is then XD
My advice to myself 3 years ago:
Life is going to be a lot harder than you imagine. Remember to take care of yourself, be kind to others.
Do not underestimate the value of being prepared -- having tools, resources, and saved income to weather out a "storm." There's a level of comfort that can't be overstated when you don't have to worry when/if things go upside-down.
Question: How much experience do you need to gain the title Blinka Shirt Wearer?
the neibor question
one 65 one too
@open girder
Ohhh, so to gain the title you must gain the shirt... I'll try to find something impressive in 3D printing for them!
@teal river it may be the case that your debug prints also affect the speed of your program. For instance, if you want to print(a value that takes 1s to compute) it will take 1s even if there's no connected PC to print it to. (my answer may be specific to circuitpython)
Good show!
👋
good shows tonight!
Thanks @open girder for another awesome evening of shows!
Thank you for taking time for us
Ahh, good to know. I'll keep that in mind in case I do anything that's time sensitive. Do you know if there's a way to easily remove them all?
I do hope I get mine in time! crosses fingers
Thanks guys! Have a good night! 😁
I had the same thought that next week is right before halloween
@teal river consider using a processor #if / #endif / #else statements and a relevant variable
I use:
#define VERBOSITY 3
#endif ```
and then ```#if VERBOSITY >= 1``` before print statements or any serial work
(for c++/arduino)
@teal river not really, you could try search&replace "print" with "#print" in your python editor but it won't be foolproof
Can I do something like that in CP?
Heh, dunno why I didn't think about that
that sound track is so familiar
in CP, you can write if debug: print(...) and it'll only have to check if debug is True or False. The space of the code is taken up, but it doesn't figure out the value to print
it's going to drive me bonkers trying to figure it out
Saw this a week or so ago... another way to deal with your print statements using deines... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--KxxMaiwSE
Don't leave your Serial.print statements in your final code! And use printf!

defines
So this goes towards the beginning? Totally fine with space at the moment, I don't think I'm anywhere near running out
Yeah plenty of space XD
@teal river near the top you'd put debug = True (or = False) and then you'd change every print in your code.py to if debug: print
Ahh, gotcha
TLDR - see around 16:50 point in video
That sounds easier than making sure every print turns to #print and vice versa with replace all, so I'll give that a shot. Thanks!
Works perfectly :D
@ionic garnet going waaayyy back to my blog article from over a year ago, I don't spell it out, but it looks like the frequency error of one PCF8523 I had was equivalent to about 3 minutes/month. https://emergent.unpythonic.net/01594923755 (the magic number 32770.2 compared to 32768 as the ideal number) Also, for a sample of TWO PCF8523s I had, I found that simply configuring high_capacitance=True improved it to less than 1 minute per month of error (the magic number 32767.7)
The DS3231 and PCF8523 real time clocks (RTCs) can
both be calibrated by writing various register values. To follow the
calibration procedures you'll need a frequency counter you trust, with at lea…
Thanks, see everyone next week ✌️
(that's what the setting is called in CircuitPython, it'll be different in Arduino or other environment; the datasheet calls it CAP_SEL)
Ah, ok, great reason not to do replace all for print -- some variables for GPS are called last_print
@teal river oops, indeed!
I was majorly confused when I saw last_if debug: print() things XD
Thanks Ladyada and PT - great show

Discord is a phatty Electron app, so maybe doing Discord in the browser would be better
I had forgotten this fact.
I used to use the Discord app when I was using Linux. Now I'm using Windows I use the browser version. 🤔
AHH! Lars ghost!!
discord app in both linux and windows
With the Windows app, you can't exit from it.
Lars Paracord planet
I have no problem exiting discord on the windows app version
What's the trick?
find the hidden min icon in the sys tray right click and exit
Hidden. Hmmm.
soon JP need to make grapple for Lars?
windows hide excess icons in the menu with "^" carrot symbol
My search broke
Lars with a grapple hook? BatLars.
Aha. I'll try that. 👍
that "^" is right beside the clock
what's this about grappa?
many games have now grapple hooks now
Thanks, Found it. 😀

Oi. Never found one I could stomach.
Hi, @clear matrix

Andy more of KITT
Works both ways.
the backstory of Kitt is that it's a cylon, right ?
Shhh, shh... 😄
Cylons are actually hyper-evolved versions of KARR
O.M.G. that explains EVERYTHING
Cylon & Garfunkel...
And that guys name? John Park Lars-son
Ahhh, JP is a Cylon!!!
the good could be like speak could be in as eye and cylon thing as ring animation
You've given me ideas...
Audio out of sync...
yes a lot around 1 sec
I am not seeing LED wall
That's my domain!
Can you do the bitmaps manually instead of using a program?
oh now I see it
on youtube unexpected maker ask : what emulation software are you using to run Classic macOS
Good show! :D

is that guide in the normal arm pages ( under https://developer.arm.com/ip-products/processors/cortex-a ) ?
Arm Developer
The Arm Cortex-A series of applications processors provide a range of solutions for devices undertaking complex compute tasks.
if you find the link to the pdf later -that would be great - not now
I think this might be it: https://developer.arm.com/documentation/den0024/a/Preface
that's what I did 🙂
@rapid hornet did you have EDID issues with the monitor? Between that and refresh rates embedded HDMI can be tricky.
E.g. BeagleV has a low, odd refresh rate and works with zero of my monitors.
Between that display and the ‘hello world’, you deserve an adult beverage of your choice.
Lol. I once spent two weeks on a floating TX pin for Ethernet.
Bad solder joint
So cool
I hacked the heck out of lwip to print debug info. And then I said “wait. Why does this bit NEVER change?”
Reminds me of your bad red diode on the led a while back.
Excellent work
That scroll though
Scrolling always seemed slow to me on a 480x320 display I have on a ESP32S2 and RP2040 when I tested on there
Is the unit of scroll size constant as you scroll?
is there an API that does 'hardware' (GPU) type support for scrolling
🥳 🥳 🥳 That's amazing
Yay USB!
Way to go Scott !
🍻
Let’s see
I’m so excited by this progress!
Slow and Low (close to the metal)..
That is the tempo..
why did you need more endpoints?
Are they salted or un-salted caches? I def prefer un-salted!
No, you didn't say cashews, but this talk of caches is making me hungry for some cashews!
Hi everyone- I'm joining a bit late. I hope everyone is doing well!

Is Adafruit going to sell the Blues Wireless Swan Father Board? It would be cool since it also is supported by Edge Impulse and their starter kit includes their cellular data card.
@timid plover, the live notes are also great for when I have to take calls and then I'm trying to figure what's going on. ty! 🙏
I truly learned my base hex because of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveller_(role-playing_game)
Traveller is a science fiction role-playing game first published in 1977 by Game Designers' Workshop. Marc Miller designed Traveller with help from Frank Chadwick, John Harshman, and Loren Wiseman. Editions were published for GURPS, d20, and other role-playing game systems. From its origin and in the currently published systems, the game relied ...
wow that is a old game
I need to start getting in the habit of committing before I start smashing around in my code. I rely on ctrl+z too often
Also “git checkout -b sandbox”
Commits to master and then “git reset —hard origin/master” doesn’t ruin your day
Bit more than a few times by going too fast
You can also git stash things, but I've never been proficient at that.
I’ve had a few git stashes confuse me days after the fact. 😂
I work in multiple release/stable branches constantly (in multiple repos)
i'm always on a branch. holding on.
my gym time this morning knocked me out. bike intervals.
@rapid hornet does math on Friday 🧮
I've only used stash once successfully and that was for a really temporary thing I wanted to try. It's usually just as easy to create a new branch.
yes same here. as far as stash.
1.5MB?! jeez what is this an Electron app? 🙃
I do entirely too much “git rebase -i HEAD~42”, so stash is my friend and nemesis
Next @rapid hornet implements snaps in CP
i've been reading through this rpi4 baremetal os. its really readable https://www.rpi4os.com/
rpi4-osdev
Tutorial: Writing a “bare metal” operating system for Raspberry Pi 4
TIL. Always wondered what the garbled alphabet soup was for (nGnRnE)
“Aggressively cache-able”
No, i just didn’t look it up so the variable names were “huh?”
Is the plan to have the raspberry pi show up as a mass storage device like other cp boards?
Interesting I'm excited to see what Circuit python can do on a pi board. I was curious how well they would behave as a mass storage drive since they're much closer to being a full fledged pc than other cp devices.
@simple fractal That tutorial looks pretty cool and is ongoing. I'm def going to check it out in depth. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to write an OS in my first job out of college in the late 80s. It was a Unix compatible OS for a proprietary multiprocessor system based on a 60020. Oddly enough, this was for a company here in Buffalo whose product was law firm automation. It was a team of 2 so I got my hands dirty.
68020 ?
I'm old. It was among the first 32 bit processors available for general computing. Sun computers were based on them
can you paste in that program t()
Hazaah! Unbroken at least.
that's really cool tho!
It feels a little quicker to me
You've created the big bang!
So big question...if I submit a PR that allows booty.py as code.py alternative if in Pirate language mode, will it be accepted?
yarrr if yer a pirate, both work
@rapid hornet Thanks for another Deep Dive … and bringing in the weekend!! Have a Great One!
Sooo running CP from a MultiGB SD Card will just work on the RPI?
Thanks for reminding me I needed a haircut too!
CP launches Linux in qemu lol
Awesome!
Thanks Scott for another great Friday afternoon of tech learning.
Thanks Scott. This was awesome as usual.
Aloha !
This was a truly awesome deep dive. Thank you @rapid hornet
Thank you! This was really exciting to see how far you've gotten in the past week!
🤣 i saw the stream on youtube just as the stream is ending
thx Scott!
Thanks Scott!
thanks all!
I just got back XD seeya Scott!
Missed this one but can't wait to see the developments of CP on the pi :)
You can always watch it later :D
That's what I meant but wasn't clear about:)
ah, fair, lol
@rapid hornet I am rewatching part of today's deep dive because my mother butt dialed me on facetime (hee hee) and you mentioned not knowing what bss is. That is uninitialized data. The data section is initialized data which needs to be loaded from the elf file and bss is data which needs to be allocated but doesn't need anything in the file. Typically it is also set to zero as well. I think it stands for block start symbol or something like that.
thanks! I added you as a deep diver
I’m also catching up on the deep dives. Great job @rapid hornet. Impressive seeing CircuitPython output HDMI.
Makes me want to try and port it to my Terasic DE0-Nano-SoC for a fully open source solution including the video driver.
Can't wait to use HDMI in CP
Haircut looks good scott!
Thanks Scott
Watching in chunks, just heard "I have to clean my desk." I feel called out.
If I totally clean my desk off, it collects items again in a day or two
I'm starting up the stream in a few moments. Working on modifying the readme files of all of the library repos today. Hang out with me here in the chat, and follow along on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch or Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN74hZZtQEs
Hi!
So is the game in some working state already? Guessing if you're doing readme files it's not just starting out?
Hello! Today I'm driving CPython (pytorch).
I'm driving the pile of parts on my desk XD

yup it's borked
Oh, that HDMI capture is great!
1000% recommend for $20!

I'm actually working on getting a set of 4W NeoPixels wired up to light my desk
IA-32? Wow, I thought that was dead
I'm doing text classification (a work project).
Better grab some sunglasses, sunscreen, and a bucket hat because these NeoPixels feature a 4W RGBW Cool White LED and are so bright it's like taking a vacation ON THE SUN.Alright, ...

Hy Foamy!
GAH
Yes loud XD
that startled me
I just hear a cricket
Ah! Found my tweezers! I can strip wires again XD
Bye bye cricket?
Fluffy baby!
:D
Cattos always improve streaming quality, this is a scientifically proven fact
I can indeed still hear the cricket
I don't mind the cricket XD
I'm always a bit afraid to automate things like this because I feel like it's almost certainly going to break something
Gotta run, thanks!
I was actually trying to show off the super bright NeoPixel, but it's just showing the aluminum backplate, lol
Minions!
Hahaha
4W should easily light my desk with 5 of them, lol
Minions!!!!
That’d be awesome!
I just finished a LED swap project for my magnifying lamp this week. 24 1W LED's. Turned out to be too bright, so hade to lower the light to 15W!
Hah. I decided to go for 4W because I only have 5 lights, and I plan on having controls for them anyway, probs won't run full brightness
15W is a lot even
But 24W
My lux meter says it is 7500 lux. That is crazy bright.
My eyes burn thinking of that
Original LED's was pale. Says 6W, but it used standard 5mm LED's so I would suspect they were not even the ultra bright version.
Not likely
Uhh... I don't see a max power here, am I blind? https://www.adafruit.com/product/184
I upgraded the lighting in the lab, and after that the stupid lamp cast a shadow with it's low LED outputs... 🙂
It says 1.25A.
Ok, I'm blind, thank you
Haha. First line I read.
I read it like 12 times and still missed it XD
5x bright!
Yup!
Handy thing, I use an old laptop brick
Aaaand I actually burned myself when I went to turn it off
The regulator got hot
I just realized, I have my 5V 4A power brick for this, but didn't get a barrel jack for it... drat
brb
Just finished the writeup of my magnifying lamp rebuild.
https://github.com/bergdahl/magnilamp_led_driver
I have returned from the scrap pile! I found a barrel jack! :D
I knew I wouldn't regret keeping the guts of that old battery-powered vacuum cleaner
I think that's what this is from, lol
lol
Thanks. Have a nice weekend!
Thanks all!
Seeya!

Love the pink PCB!

Question: Any plans for the nRF53840?
not yet anyway lol

hello
As a kid my first month was all about burning one self
Fruit is yummy

I used to prefer C/C++ for all embedded work. Now I find Python so much faster to iterate. If I need to, I can still write the time critical parts in C/C++ if needed. Biggest thing I miss in CP is interrupt handling
Thanks!!!! Bye. @open girder
I like the distorto music. I'd get tired of it all the time but fun for a change
great desk of ladyada
I dunno if I would buy the pink Feather myself, but I do love the idea of many color options.
pink panther feather
Heh, I'd totally buy it if it had the Panther on it
Just a note I won't be streaming today.
I don't know how to do Tuesday without JPsPPOTW
Maybe actually go build one of the things?
I would do that, but motivation haaaard
lars was sandbathing
Now what will we throw in the well?
Quick, someone stream a product pick rerun!
JP must be busy editing the ADABOX reveal show.
Looking forward to tomorrow. I wasn't going to wait for the unboxing show but I guess the joke is on me.
Considering it's tomorrow, yeah
JP usually makes the unboxing rather entertaining.
Here's my pick: watch the adabox 19 unboxing featuring Carlo Sagun.
Adabox19?
My AdaBox is still preparing...
The unboxing this evening is for AdaBox 20
@haughty quiver you’ll be Elton John right? 😄
When necessary, yes.
LOL, in the piano and he'd make those horrid skritching sounds
😆😂
Little known fact, Lars appears in the darkness when people open the Halloween adabox
Is there a pixel art Lars yet? Asking for a friend. heh
