Hewwo!
I forgive you
Isn’t it weird how apologies work better when it’s not on twitter
Or…everything works better when it’s not on twitter
👍
I wasn't in the offended group, but I appreciate that you take their feelings into account, take responsibility, and apologize for it
Same
Soooo.... making an NFT from your apology.... is that a thing?
All good, pt :)
Question: What do you recommend for pogo probes? I got some of the pogo clips you sell to try to use with the SWD pins on M0 feather and trinkey, but the clips don't work well on double sided boards. They slide/don't clamp/roll/can't get close to each other.
Question: what do you do with failed 3D prints, like these keycaps that don't fit on key switch stems?
Throw them away?
Lol
if it's PLA then you can (industrially) compost it
Melt them down and make new filament. Only seems a little difficult.
(Half joke don’t actually try that)
I think machines exist for that but expensive
Ohhh, I didn't consider that...

I have an acrylic "shadow box" where I close it up, and cut a hole in the top. Any failures get deposited into it, not unlike a suggestion box. 🗳️
Big Thank You to Lady Ada for doing the DigiSearch on 24volt Fans.
A Lot of GREAT info
DigiKey is a legit good website while Arrow is almost unusable
oh wow @odd fox is here !
Will Keep you updated on what I decide to get.
Haha, figures I got beat to the punch. Less work for me XD thanks
Honestly would’ve picked one up if I knew it had midi
Bad on me for dismissing it right away
I need a fan? Go to digikey.
I need a battery powered screwdriver? Go to digikey.
I need cookware to supply a fully automated, circuitpython pizzeria startup? Go to digikey (though I don't think they have cookware, it's worth looking though).
Question: How does JP pick product pick of the week
@waxen thistle Not "failures", lessons.
Watching LadyAda search Digikey each week helped me get some battery holders for a project out of the thousands they have
My life is full of lessons. 🙂
parsec audio is the loudest thing ever
Agree
got it, will lower it 🙂
Question: PT, are you the only one who uses the adafruit handle on Discord, Twitter, and other places, or do you share that power?
Lars can see a little bit into the future, and scours the Adafruit store for a product that's in need.
He indicates via a telepathic connection to JP which product needs to be featured to help the most people.
[or it's most likely selected by the Adafruit team, but that's not as much fun, right?]
Ohhhh, Sinclair!

@open girder have you tried a soft-limiter plug-in for the audio? An audio compressor plug-in with soft limiting set with a 1:1 ratio is also an approach that could help.
@teal river (pt here) for twitter, all of us can use tweet who use the account, there are maybe 10 of us who can tweet, but most of it is auto-tweet
for discord here, limor and/or i
Ok, cool, danke :D
What do you think about GitHub Copilot?
Buttons or keys?
Hmm…good question
@sudden slate not sure, but interested to learn about it and see how it is used
@inner spade hmm, i might email ya if that is OK?
Me too
Absolutely.
Question: Do you (LadyAda) think that CircuitPython will turn into a popular keyboard firmware option?
Hmm, I'll need to get a pair of these tweezers.
looks at $12 multimeter with wire on the leads for tiny things
Mine's coming tomorrow !
Omg you’ll love it

The Great Resignation? Nah.
A lot of people are taking the view: Don't stand around. You're the main character. Push the plot forward.
I remember hitting 2000 on Scott's show
Question: Which is more exciting, CP hitting 2500 thanks, or Discord hitting 30k users?
IKR - last time I was almost last
Definitely the former
I like great growth
IMO
I got mine really late, I subscribed JUST under the wire... I didn't realize AdaBoxes were subscription and that they were gone forever after they shipped and sold out
With great growth comes great responsibilities. (and glorious purpose, if anyone here is a Loki in disguise).
LOL - I agree
Wait what happened with LadyAda and the podcast lol
#loki
Question: Would one or both of you be available and/or willing to interview on a random podcast from a no-name person?
Do you mean you LOL
Doctor trying to slide into the livestream
||Shhh that's classified||
I am in support of Copilot - ||that person who asked was me||
Question: Is there a scenario in which MicroPython and CircuitPython might merge to be one all-encompassing thing, or will they always have different enough scopes to stay separate forever?
My licensing is GPL/Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike, depending on what project time frame/project you look at
3.0, not 2.0
Not that you asked me….but the main reason they’re separate is because CircuitPython is meant to work well with the learning guide system and it has stricter requirements such as native USB support to implement the easier workflows for beginners.
I need to look at that 2FA MacroPad project... would be great for work
I didn't ask you, but I suppose I can accept your answer :P
That’s ok I accept your accept.
I think they will stay separate for the foreseeable future IMO
I'll accept your acceptance of my acceptance
Lol
Question: What's with the TL07xH opamp (new version of TL07x)? It seems to have all different specs from the old version, not even JFET inputs anymore. Did TI really make a completely different chip and give it the same part number to trick people into switching chips?
Hasn’t ask an engineer always had clipping audio
I figured that was part of the experience
Question: Will there be different size MacroPads in the future?
well it's not Ask An Audio Engineer, is it?
If it were, they'd be ashamed of themselves :P
But don’t worry PT it’s not that bad. I just saw the convo in YouTube chat.
@teal river You can kind of do that with the 5x6, right?
Oh yeah, totally! I just meant as a "ready to go" solution that doesn't need soldering, an MCU, etc.
AlliLoki!
We needed an Engineer Loki -- someone who could outscience Tony Stark.
I'm cosplaying a Loki variant who uses Stark-like tech and magic together >:D
What happens when the Disney building is done?? Then is it not Made in NYC factory footage??

That's impossible - Tony Stark forever
It's actually the Disney Adafruit museum, and we'll get a tour when it's finished!

Question: With almost no 3D printer companies in the United States, and almost all OSHW 3D printers dead, has Adafruit ever considered making a 3D printer kit to be sold in the shop? For example, an aluminum extrusion design with some sort of custom Adafruit main board. Additionally, why did Adafruit stop selling 3D printers in the shop?
TDK is still around?! And they make sensors?!?!
Big question time
Related question: Why doesn't Adafruit have any regular PLA in the shop anymore?
I’m sure Noe and Pedro would love to give input for an Adafruit 3D printer
And glorious purpose
Finally someone making sensors for the juggalo and juggalette community

They've got a TONNE of 3d printer stuff. Printers, accessories, filament, etc. Naomi Wu keeps mentioning them when talking about Creality printers
I recommend getting PLA+, it's more consistent than the regular PLA
Hehehehe
I hear music, and I can't tell if it's a ringtone or music from outside of the factory
Ohhh, tiny
I remember when TDK was just tapes of various formats
so cute
No music for me?? but my headphones are awful RN - I've got better ones
It was quiet, in the background
Out of curiosity, because it just made me think of it... do the barometric pressor sensors adjust or adapt to pressure changes? Say you put it on an outdoor platform, will it report [relative] altitude changes?
I have hyper-sensitive ears XD
Might be some of the factory machinery. It kicks on and off
Preeeettty sure it was actually music, but... maybe
Yeah, me too
Have you been listening to a bit too much skrillex maybe?
Oww my ears

All the new Marvel TV shows have been very solid.
Meh
Falcon & Winter Soldier was also very decent
Meh
They're all wonderful
i really liked space jam, and did a review on our blog
Yeah, I agree
One review I saw was "it's literally one big Warner Bros. commercial and it's awful", lol
Even Rick and Morty is in space jam
I approach it like this -- a movie is what, 2hr-2hr30min? And most marvel films have many "superheroes" and supporting cast, so even main characters have just minutes of screentime.
For a 6-10 episode TV show, that's...well, ~6-10 hours of character development. It helps build a more robust cinematic universe.
Do those choc switches have a window that works with an LED like the max switches?
Mx
Another review said, of that commercial, "this isn't Rick and Morty selling out, it's Rick and Morty being sold" because apparently it's the only ad where Rick doesn't know he's in an ad

Let the smoke out of a chip mistake...
Mistakes Were Made! I want that name!
Call the segment "Fffzzzttttttt... POOF"
I like mistakes were made way more then lessons learned
Or just “Smells Bad”
Misteaks were made
"Whats that smell"
"Success is always less funny than a spectacular failure."
"....well, that's not supposed to happen."
in interviews I always ask engineers to describe their biggest mistake
Hah, TWiT
No Joe Rogan podcast?
A hilarious mistake for me was accidentally running a GND trace through a 5V pin. Couldn’t figure out why I got overcurrent warnings on USB
I've always told my college students that it's okay to make mistakes in class, just don't make the same mistake again.

QUESTION: Are there molds with home row bumps?
Both different, both awesome!
Question (looks like got missed so reposting sorry): What do you recommend for pogo probes? I got some of the pogo clips to try to use with the SWD pins on M0 feather and trinkey, but the clips don't work well on double sided boards. They slide/don't clamp/roll/can't get close to each other.
QUESTION: are other people allowed to use the term "stemma qt" for their own projects/products?
Thanks!
On the topic of mistakes earlier, I was looking for this quote, about their value
Recently, I was asked if I was going to fire an employee who made a mistake that cost the company $600,000. No, I replied, I just spent $600,000 training him. Why would I want somebody to hire his experience?

my adabox hasn't come. Soon I hope
Same, mine still says "preparing for shipment"
UPS tells me tomorrow is Adabox Day! WHEE!!
glad I'm not alone on being adaboxless
My adabox is set to arrive tuesday. The order details in my order history give something away. Not surprised, was hoping it would be that
Wow, mine hasn't even shipped yet.

See you all next time. Thanks for convincing me to watch Loki (took tons of arm twisting--I think someone said: "Loki" and I was there)

What was the code again?!
Superfun
@teal river superfun
danke!
bitte
Order placed :D
Just ordered some CHOC keyswitches and some digital tweezers!
Was thinking on the choc. But I have a bunch of mx I haven't used yet, and the choc is more work with the different switch sockets and needing a different pcb. I would love to go down those rabbit holes, but realistically having the sockets and LEDs on ready to go boards and just swapping in switches, keycaps, and writing circuit python is plenty of fun for me at the moment
Yep
Are chocs louder than MX Blue or Kailh Whites?
Speaking of choc, any plans to stock up on choc keycaps?
@teal river Like the MX line, the CHOC line comes in different feels and clickiness.
Might be dependent on people showing interest in the switches and sockets
Idk about click, but the linear should be as loud as they bottom out.
@vivid ore I'm sure CHOC keycaps are coming. In the meantime, I'll likely print some.
If there are some relegendable keycaps, I would totally buy enough to replace the mx sockets for the macropad...
Found a few designs on Thingiverse, by searching CHOC keycaps there.
I'll try them if there's a clickier key than the Whites XD
My 3d printer needs more tweaking, but my soldering station at work is at the ready haha
@vivid ore Adafruit stocks some relegendable MX keycaps. Alas the CHOC line won't work on the Adafruit Macropad.
But you could make your own macropad PCB for CHOC.
I ordered another pack of relegendables, now it's 10 instead of 5, but same price!
How do the LEDs look when using the relegendables?
Haven't found my microsd adapter yet for calibration prints haha
I'll have to setup octoprit at some point too, but also need the adapter to image the pi
Do you throw them away or something? I have so many because every microsd seems to come with one
Nah, they're just stashed in a box somewhere from the last move
Just haven't gotten around to unpacking yet, if it were a technical issue I'd have asked already haha
Moving is the worst. I'd be tempted to find a microsd on sale and buy one instead lol
@smoky island I'm just watching show & tell. But this with epoxy should work great for the inside of the keys. https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Polvo-mica-colores-maquillaje-manualidades/dp/B077B42YB8/
Nice! thank you for the tip. I will try that out.
Today for me 🙂
Same now! 😄
Where's my Adabox-less comfort group when I need it...
That was me a few months ago 😿
I keep hitting refresh, only to see the dreaded words "Preparing for Shipment"...
The order I placed yesterday had a label made, AdaBox still preparing...
Mine finally shipped! Woooohoooo!!! Can't wait. Been 3D printing key caps & and knobs for a week in anticipation!
I printed 2 keycaps and they suck XD
@teal river I had a big pile of fail while working on the design, it is very sensitive to printer and filament variation in the stem. https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/assets/000/103/332/medium640/projects_PXL_20210703_162245504(1).jpg?1625762343
Maybe try the Ruiz keycap design too, it might be better than this one or just work better for you
I think it's the printer's fault, lol. Probably will try theirs since it's the flat style

hey @haughty quiver I'm going to get to use my funhouse in the garage to detect if my 2019 bolt ev has caught fire.. good times...
well yeah, GM said 'don't charge at night' and 'park it outside '. the fix they installed honks the horn if it detects a runaway battery... I'm not sure what I'll do if my car just decides to honk it's horn, but I'd like a backup detection ... needs to send me text in case I'm on some part of the property and can't hear it...
I'm hoping they will do a buyback or a trade for me. Love the car otherwise.
Oof, scary
Mine goes 'beep beep'.
(funhouse, not car)

The 3M squeegee was on Eye on NPI, as well as the PowerProfiler from Nordic.
And oh, this too!
Ideal-tek Wire Strippers for fine wire
What key cap set is that, I love the look of it
I have no idea what the Botrons PCB probe is used for. 🙂
Why do some MX switches have a square around the +, some have [ ] around the +, and some are just +?
Good question. I hope it's not regarding Regular Expressions...
lol
"Mistakes were made"
"And lessons were learned"
Seems that all Kailh are square around +, Gateron is just +, and Redragon is [+]
Regular Cherry MX (like from Cherry) are just +
yes, its called pattern i believe
Not all Kailh are square around, you're thinking the boxx line in particular.
Kailh does standard Cherry MX clones without extra outer support.
I guess Gateron just matches Cherry on that
Ahhh... guess Adafruit just has boxx
Nobody uses them though.
I need to get one of these:
https://kbdfans.com/products/kbdfans-72-switches-tester-all-in-one?_pos=3&_sid=43d16761a&_ss=r
Can you get alternate plungers instead of cutting/breaking the box around the +?
Yeah, the Boxx line is generally heralded as better than most cherry MX clones
so cool
I have Cherry RGB Blues
Minecraft best game
That's a candy dish for keyboarders.
RGB Blues?
regular blues have black shells
So do they glow better?
the RGB ones are translucent
I love how JP just lays his laptop funny instead of having screen capture XD
Ah, they look grey XD
need
I thought that was the laptop fan XD
did you do the /say command? cause you don't need to! just typing it without any command is just going to do /say automatically
You need to press T to Talk, then type
i mean, that's fair, yes
But yeah, /say is only needed in the server console
But did you register for the proper permits for open air mining? Is there an environmental remediation plan in place?
JP, how do you control typing speeds? My MiniMacroPad takes several seconds to type a sentence
can't touch this
Mine is too slow XD yours seems instant
Are you sending one character at a time?
Mine isn't doing anything other than typing when a key is pressed
I am also wondering why this sentence input is instant
No, it's keyboard_layout.write(sting)
Windows, USB 2 and 3 ports
Can you test on absolute latest CP
Windows 10 to be specific
I have not tried that
I could in a bit, was on 7 alpha 4
It's not volume, it's the block location
tildes just mean relative to your current location
you can do like ~-1 for one block in the negative direction, annoyingly Minecraft does xyz as left, up, forward
So it plays the sound at your current location
You'd have to use tildes for relative direction, if you just use numbers it's at a specific block in the world
I'm guessing the speed thing is because you're different library
been playing for like, nearly 10 years
Adabox Hint??
I've been playing since it came around
Thanks @haughty quiver for another excellent Lars JP's Workshop!

Deep Dive w/Scott for July 23rd, 2021 Hi all, this doc is try and track topics and timecodes for my deep dive stream. These notes will end up in the YouTube video’s description. Any help keeping them groomed as I stream is welcome. Housekeeping I’m sponsored by Adafruit to work on CircuitPython...
deep dive doesn't show up in the twitch.tv schedule
https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit/schedule
Early :O
Hi!
Chillin' like a villain
Blink blonks!
I'm only here for a bit, dinner plans...
Hello All ... Feels like Friday now
Look forward to the "ear worm| of the week.
Hola from Florida ! :-D
Konichiwa!
oh that's pretty cool
I just don't update things :P
much ❤️ to whomever is doing the Time Stamping
So I’m watching while at my laptop.
cube of 3030 extrusion will be an eventual corexy printer
Watching on my desktop (working on my resume on the other half of the screen, can't show that, lol)
i do remember at my second job. so super smart guy in the application area printed his resume on the main printer. Being in the systems area my friend decided to pull it off the print queue and re queue it endlessly. Small things for small minds.
Printer room was a floor down.
Nice glowey keyboard
Custom, with the key switches I want where I want them :D
I don't have experience with it specifically, but my guess is that the bluetooth libraries may be using the RGB led as status output.
he said "stop", not "enable me" !
fancy
Now I wanna see the build video ;-P
i actually did a lot of work with RT (an early ticket system) from him. At least it think it was his
now i can't write a single line of perl
I bought this keyboard like 2 weeks after my last one, lol
I write long Perl lines regularly to assist my command line productivity
one never has enough keyboads
I wonder if I'd be able to do COBOL and Fortran anymore...
i did write one giant fortran program in Uni, long time ago. Only because McGill had the super optimizing fortran compiler and we thought it would be faster.
If Native CP on the Pi was a thing, would we get real multi-core support? And would that gain multi-core support on the Pico?
on punch cards. its a special moment when your program is more than one box. and you have to stand at the reader and feed it all
I am working on some of the blocking changes in libraries that #4940 is waiting on.
I was learning COBOL and Fortran specifically to try to get high-paying jobs working in those XD
seems like Java was at one time the high paying gig
Yeah
COBOL and Fortran jobs still pay well because hardly anyone knows them anymore
And businesses still use them
But too much pressure for me...
wow, seems like Go is at the top. Probably all google people
lol
that's because you really have to pay people to program in Go
I'd imagine the regular Pi's single CPU cores are waaaaay faster than even the 2 Pico cores
Did anybody check the "blink 4 LED on the MagTag"? It may only blink one, or four depending on what code blink it.
pi also has l1 and l2 caches and such
mmm cache
Only 15 minutes late this week ...
ok, trying to do a pull from main, get the issue with ports/raspberrypi/sdk/lib/tinyusb has moved to some new point in time. whats the best way to get it all straight
Having two MCUs talking probably is easier than getting 2 cores running XD
did that
exchanging messages over a serial channel is easier than shared memory
then i get into this state (lots of similar error)
error: submodule git dir '/home/bsegal/Projects/circuitpython/.git/modules/ports/raspberrypi/sdk/modules/tinyusb/modules/hw/mcu/nxp/lpcopen' is inside git dir '/home/bsegal/Projects/circuitpython/.git/modules/ports/raspberrypi/sdk/modules/tinyusb/modules/hw/mcu/nxp'
that's how js does multiprocessing in the browser too
mmm serial
I wonder if you could run an instance of CP on each core of the Pico, and then have virtual serial between them...
what's the {{ syntax }} in default_power_of_two - template?
i'll muddle through. usually involves manually deleting folders
all good. back to blinky
the thing is 2 cores still have to share a lot of stuff, it's not like fully separate processors
git reset --hard sometimes helps for me
jinja thanks!
(it will delete all changes)
I confirm with the latest 7.0.0, to upgrade the MagTag all LED blink, but for boot error, only the rightmost blink. Should I open an issue?
i have a script that does that. does a reset all the way down and re-updates. doesn't seem to work in this case. will try.
#! /bin/sh
git reset --hard
git submodule foreach --recursive 'git reset HEAD . || :'
git submodule foreach --recursive 'git checkout -- . || :'
git submodule update --init --recursive
git clean -d -f -f -x
git submodule foreach --recursive git clean -d -f -f -x
something like that
i actually its because folders have been deleted and git wont delete them. because git.
Ah, yeah... Might be easier tho? Just split resources in half, so they can't step on each other's feet
not but there's stuff like interrupts and pins, they have to know if they are already in use for example
I frequently rm -rf git-folder and then gh repo clone myrepo 😉
@left pier nuke it from the orbit, that's the only way to be sure
I have done rm -rf * followed by git checkout . inside a submodule once to fix that kind of issue
@upper sandal that will not delete the dot files
well you want to keep the .git files 😉
also, NEVER do rm -rf .*, because .. matches that...
I think the issue was something like deleted folders that git was confused about, so that did it
Too late, I created the issue.
start with the easiest issue to fix first \
How you feeling @these .... low hanging fruit ... or harder item?
Start with what you're in XD
Personally I try to do the hardest things first to get them out of the way
Usually you introduce bugs, now you are fixing them?
Then bang it out ... and enjoy ;-P
in terms of microcontroller support, do you think we're coming to the point where the SAMD21 is just too small to be productive for future CircuitPython releases?
I have had issues where the code would do a MemoryError on samd21 in 7 but not in 6, I haven't looked again recently
so something like this fixed things. magic
rm -rf /home/bsegal/Projects/circuitpython/.git/modules/ports/raspberrypi/sdk/modules/tinyusb/modules/hw/mcu/nxp
then the usual git submodule update --init while in the lib/tinyusb folder.
I did really enjoy listening to Jimmo last week, thanks again for htat
I would like to see some practical metrics on RAM usage in 6 versus 7, or depending on optimisation options
Gotta go, ttyl peeps!
memory tracking is hard, sometimes a small change can cascade due to fragmentation
Have fun and good luck!
Thanks @teal river
The nice thing about working in an open hardware company is that you don't need to go to internal documentation... everything is out there.
climbing - outside or club?
Quite nice here in Whistler today. No fires here. All in the interior. Still pretty bad there
Bootloader of MagTag blink 4 orange LED when you upload firmware. But Bootloader of CPB does not do that. Where is the difference?
Another good example is the FeatherS2 which has two definitions because the pins changed from pre-production to production versions.
We don't see your code.
Hi Scott! Is there a description of the different board revisions? I have a Circuit Playground Bluefruit Rev D and I'm not seeing anything here: https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-Circuit-Playground-Bluefruit-PCB
Wait was that fly fishing I saw ...
okay cool no problem, just wondering if my (now old) CP Bluefruit is excluded from new fun work you're doing
Limor only publish one revision as part of the OpenHardware, the page is not updated with every revision.
there's multitwitch 😉
Mine has a (D) revision number.
I have a (D) too
Those are the best!
earlier you wrote pin 7? but now the code you looked at had pin 6 ( maybe I'm just confused )
I can imagine a problem with new revision of a MagTag where all the viewer of this stream do not notice, because we all ordered during the stream the same revision...
lol, i used to say that all the time "who wrote this code!!!' 'You' 'Me?'
pre-git. source code was managed in folders. like proper code should be
nice to see the git blame gui on github - thanks for the demo
I think he meant "to provide confusion"
yes
could you look at the schematic in Eagle?
you found a better way - look at the board file 🙂
yep, it's P0.06
"Announcing CircuitPython 8.0: now actually Javascript!"
Ouch
I was going to ask about if that NEOPIXEL_COUNT variable should have a default of 1
lol
my bench supply needs an update. STM part so DFU it is.
yes, i always seem to end up with jtag
question about /dev/serial/by-id - what if there are two identical boards from Adafruit connect - how can you tell which one is which?
I'm gonna plug discotool there by the way 😉
pip3 install discotool-for-microcontrollers
(it was in my cutbuffer already)
haha
see I accept PRs for the linux and windows version
that discotol is cool
(it's completely borked on windows right now)
it has commands to connect to a serial by board name, drive name, serial number... (though you need to add an environment variable to use tio instead of screen)
tio is also the bomb. totally made dealing with serial devices easier
And you can use it to run Circup
what notes would you write to yourself to remember this on monday?
( watch the video ? )
circup is also ... wait for it... the bomb
screenshot the livestream right now? 😉
[Alexa|Siri] Remind me to {thing} on Monday.
circup is so nice
ah - so a fresh start on monday/tuesday 🙂
yay for circup. i was aware but never used it.
hmm, i liked to get something done at the end of the day. so i would go home happy
i may be in seattle to visit. once the border opens both ways 🙂
my friend has a place there i can borrow.
I may be going skiing near you next winter 😉
yep, no indoors for me too
send me a message when you are up. we can do a run or two. 🙂 if you are in whistler.
thanks again scott. good stuff today as usual.
Thanks Scott! Always enjoyable and I always learn something!
slap some stars on Discotools ppl
https://github.com/Neradoc/discotool
done
and open issues and PRs, it will make me stress in a good way 😛
@rapid hornet THANKS! Have a Great Weekend!
thanks Scott!
thanks for the show 👋
thanks all!
have fun climbing!
thank you 🧗
Hard to watch deep dive in reruns. I want to comment!
I will be streaming some work on CircuitPython libraries this morning. Hang out here in the chat and join me on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwQq2TgcswQ or Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch
Hello. Audio good on YouTube. Driving tractors today.
Afternoon all
Catching AttributeError works. At least on my PyPortal.
If you put any temp files in a directory called build/ most .gitignore files on CircuitPython libraries will ignore it.
Ready to pull, test and review
Width on Text can be a nightmare. Try looking at the Android source code. 😜
🇸🇪 👋
Alas, I don't have a CLUE.
Does your code from yesterday work? I tryed on CPB and it failed on me: #circuitpython-dev message
Those name were OK
But no event on clicking.
Alpha 5 latest.
Could be me.
circup relies on the latest releases of the bundles as published on github
circup update
and --all to force yes
Github finished
Does it make an array of bolean?
[TRUE,FALSE, ... , FALSE]
Ok
You reversed the print and if
How do you make a version that work with both...
You may need to import and if it fail use the other one?
You want something that work with 6.3 and 7.0 ?
So you have to delay your change until 7.0 is available.
In the core of 7.0 so people 6.3 will not be able to use anymore.
I live on the edge... it's ok for me. 🙂
Gizmo on CPB?
Can you verify if you have a boot_out.txt with a very recent 7.0.0 alpha5?
Do you have the 10 blinking or 1 blinking?
RGB I mean.
Or is it the single LED blinking.
RED/GREEN that is for the upgrade.
So it is the bootloader.
Yes
I
Ok like me.
I tried pull=False
code.py output:
0 was pressed
0 was released
1 was pressed
1 was released
I was able to get that once... only once, then button became unresponsive.
code.py output:
<Event: key_number 1 pressed>
<Event: key_number 1 released>
<Event: key_number 0 pressed>
<Event: key_number 0 released>
With `
keys = keypad.Keys((board.BUTTON_A, board.BUTTON_B), value_when_pressed=False, pull=False)`
But not reliable...
Need to check the schematics... or the code of the CircuitPlaygound library.
Works for me with your code !!!
Wonder if we can add the switch.
Switch from the CPB.
Ok keys = keypad.Keys((board.BUTTON_A, board.BUTTON_B, board.SLIDE_SWITCH), value_when_pressed=True, pull=True) does not work for the SLIDE_SWITCH...
Does the Circuit Playground library use gamepad?
Or not at all, and then we don't need to worry.
I don't have the PyBadger, but the PyGamer. That one has the "analogue joystic" in place of the UDLR.
Not sure what it use (gamepad or not).
Ok, how do you do group "untab" in Mu?
No move left and right the code... all in one.
This will save me a lot of typing...
*[ thing ] == thing
I should say call(*[thing]) == call(thing)
and call(*[ thing1, thing2 ]) == call(thing1, thing2)
so what you wanted is *button_values to unpack the elements of button_values
or possibly *button_values[:2]
Sorry, disconnecting, that was great, but I see that Neradoc is taking over. 🙂
Comma is ignored if there is no extra element. (From what I understand) It permit to make a list were every element is one one line and something , even for the last line.
Does keypad need to use a Debouncer? I thought Dan was going to implement it internally.
I believe keypad debounces
Yeah!!!
What is that?
Ok
From memory, he has his own library for the button and graphics...
Are you sure he use the gamepad?
Ok
Image...
updating metro-esp32s2 to alpha5
Is it installed in pip?
pip list | grep miniqr
I can't remember how kattni fixed it.
Do you have the latest stubs installed?
pip install circuitpython-stubs --pre --upgrade
In that keys stub, change the line to
self.key_count = 123
No reason not to give it a shot, and if it doesn't work, maybe it's time to walk away from the error until later when you've got a fresh and relaxed mind?
wait (I came in late and have been in and out) wasn't this the error Kattni was dealing with earlier, and isn't it exclusively because sphinx is being overly aggressive?
Maybe you've already addressed that
ahh ok. and huh. Fingers crossed but hey! why not!
add keypad to autodoc_mock_imports in docs/conf.py
Ah well
Loose typing is like playing hot potato with a thermo-nuclear device
Consistent failure is better than inconsistent success every time
Have a great weekend everybody
If there's a fork that removes it to break a bunch of code, how would you see the scope of what examples broke, is it a part of the build system?
Bye.
Thanks!
Thanks! This was great!
Thanks all, hope everyone has a great weekend!
Is there a Show this evening?
Yeah as far as I can tell. It happens anywhere between 8pm and 10pm EST
Desk of Ladyada - Random hacker times
JP's Product Pick of the Week - 4pm ET Tuesdays
3D Hangouts - 11am ET Wednesdays
Show & Tell - 7:30pm ET Wednesdays
Ask an Engineer - 8pm ET Wednesdays
John Park's Workshop - 4pm ET Thursdays
Deep Dive w/Scott - 5pm ET Fridays
Last week was just a prerecorded great search and this week I thought I was supposed to be back
Usually The Great Search is part of Ask an Engineer, isn't it?
yeah
They cover what was on the Great Search during Ask an Engineer, but the "live" version is Sunday nights
Unless you're thinking of "Eye on NPI"?
I didn't realize they did those independently XD
Desk of Ladyada + The Great Search is usually Sunday evenings
last week there wasn't a DoLA so they just did a pre-recorded "The Great Search"
hi ya'll, desk of ladyada will be tonight, running late, for good reasons, was hanging out with helen from crowd supply on her visit to NYC
Hanging out with peeps is a fair reason for lateness
Gives me time to finish this video anyway XD
last week we just did great search since we were running behind, but this week full show coming up
@teal river hanging out with peeps is prolly the best reason 🙂
I miss peeps
helen was the first visitor in over 18 months
oh that's really awesome 🙂
and the bad news is, with delta, maybe visits will not happen again for a bit
we'll see, but glad we could do this. we wore masks inside and then ate outside
yeah, delta is changing a lot of what we thought we knew with COVID
yerp, ain't going good in many areas
Delta is scary... making me delay plans to meet peeps again. Only had one hangout, but thankfully that was a long, fun one with fully vaxxed friends who had been isolating still too
I saw family for about a week about a week ago. but it'll be a while before I see them again
😦
NY Times said it's lack of vaccine uptake, not Delta, at issue.
Delta will probably make it worse...
John Cleese said that 40 percent of the audience at professional wrestling matches think it's real.
He said if you can't see it with your own eyes, what in the world could anyone say to convince you otherwise.
(then just apply that analogy to these other situations, and there you go)
I agree
well, and then you deal with the topic that J&J isn't as effective against Delta or Lambda as Moderna & Pfizer
How much less effective? I hadn't heard any data on anything other than Pfizer
i'd prefer J&J because i have vaccine sensitivity and i'm trying to avoid a bad reaction.
He also said pro wrestlers are wonderful athletes but terrible actors. ;)
They gonna go through the whole Greek alphabet?? ROFL
We'll need another alphabet at the rate things are going
LOL
Is anyone researching multiple vaccines together? Since we have mRNA vaccines now, they can pretty easily churn out new ones to cover those who are up for getting vaccines...
it's not peer reviewed yet but the possibility of needing a second shot sort of defeats the purpose of getting just one shot 😛
& a third shot
I can't recall the source, but I think I saw one report that the Pfizer vaccine was more effective against Delta than the original strain
I only listen to Michael Osterholm @CIDRAP and nobody else. ;)
They weren't sure to begin with if we'd be 2 and done or need boosters -- wouldn't surprise me if we do, it's a mixed bag from what I've heard whether immunity lasts for coronavirus vaccines or not
@teal river I don't know of any studies, but I read an article about some doctors getting a shot of a different type to try to enhance their own coverage (i.e., if you already got Pfizer, add a Moderna shot or vice versa). Theoretically might marginally improve effectiveness. But no data.
[coronaviruses as in the category, not COVID-19]
okee starting up the show, a good distraction for our ultimate doom 🙂
< cue music >
On page, waiting for bleep bloops
Good evening all you wonderful folks!
Hewwo
stream is live on twitch
😄
Howdy
it's a good distraction
Desk of Ladyada - Hot Summer Sunday Stemmas! https://youtu.be/6SCGWb46x7E
Woo it is sweltering, which means we got to stay in and do a bunch of engineering. This week we spent a little time finishing up some languishing boards - Stemma QT version of the SCD40/SCD41 and IS31FL3741 chips - we wrote libraries for both as well! We also are dealing with a massive SAMD51 shortage by redesigning some recent boards like the M...
Bleep bloops!
I must say, I'm really thankful for all the different boards Adafruit makes.
Meow meow I am melting
In making my PixelWing RGB matrix i modeled the pins off the Metro ESP32-S2 so it made it super fast for validating the design 🙂
BTW, the Adabox was EPIC! Thanks @open girder
Mine is still prepping to ship DX
There may be a worldwide parts issue but my issue is I keep ordering more from adafruit and have a growing backlog of cool toys to play with
If it's not for you, hand it off to someone who might enjoy it 🙂 Spread the happiness, we need as much of that as we can get...
Nooooo don't kill the kittens!
"Hot girl summer is a meme, originating with rapper Megan Thee Stallion, about feeling confident in who you are—and having fun and looking good while doing it. It often involves women posting selfies with summery swag and style using the caption (I heard it's) hot girl summer." - https://megantheestallion.com/
My adabox is expected Tuesday
samd51...ah the days when they were available...
I got a couple of the QT Py SAMD21 to try using as MiniMacroPads instead of my QT Py RP2040... but they don't have enough RAM to load the libraries DX
All the libraries I need for the USB HID and keyboard and seesaw
Re-port, not report!
Adafruit ships things, but ships moor in ports.
bad captions. "adafruit porks things"
i was hesitant to use the ESP32-S2 WROVER but after this one.. i'm sold
aaaand my computer just crashed out of the blue...
I've got a variant of my RGB matrix board that will use the RP2040 as well which will be fun if I can get it to work
fingers crossed
Why were you hesitant? In my slow project of learning more hardware design it looked pretty cool to me, but I love wifi on things
need to use my 500 RP2040 🙂
I want a (partial?) reel of rp2040 😦
I like to do things the hard way
lol
Sell to meeeeee
Looks like @EspressifSystem is launching a ZigBee ESP: the ESP32H2. Based on the git commits, it appears to be a 96MHz RISC-V core with an 802.15.4/Zigbee radio, BLE, no WiFi (!), and with 40/45 GPIO. Commit log here: https://t.co/e5rFMZbYov
I have a smol board with a bare ESP32-S2 chip with integrated FLASH
but i haven't got it to work quite yet
ohhh pretty
You're not lazy, you're just busy with too many other things XD
I placed 450 neopixel friday
Work smarter, not harder. Use the tools you have access to so your life is easier and more productive. Also, nothing wrong with being tactically lazy 😉
I have a strip of 300 NeoPixels XD
i need to sell about... 1000 of these boards to get a pick and place
I wish I could build boards as a job
the idea of doing 500 gives me the willies
Insufficient water to make silicon chips
@lilac tusk have you seen the Index PnP project? Not ready for actual use yet but https://github.com/index-machines/index
@spare kilnDo you want to outsource some of your board fabrication? XD
Hmmm. Jelly beans.
I heard "jellybean part" and figured that meant it's all over/common
remember: do not eat your parts
aw 😦
Too late
jelly bean == ubiquitous 🙂
I love how clever that level shifting solution is
Are NeoPixel rings level shifted?
sorry, I bought 100 of those recently. that's probably my fault 😦
What it do, AdaCrew!! 😁 my question 🙋♂️ is something I’ve asked around and looked online for but haven’t found the answer yet, was suggested to go right to the source 😁 I live in San Diego and there are lots of pretty scenes that I want to share snaps of Adabot and me going on fun adventures as I build my project and post them to the discord, but I struggled when writing the captions because I realized I don’t know AdaBot’s gender 🙃 does adabot have a gender or are they a bot / nongendered? Wouldn’t want to spoil the fun by not being inclusive 🙃 thanks! Keep rocking it 🙂
How dare! Stealing from the mouth of Adafruit!
Wrong show to ask questions :P
hi hi @oblique jay ADABOT is a robot, no gender, thanks for askin of course!
Rats I’m tired ur totally right haha
Strangely, I'm just today using the BSS138 from Adafruit today to migrate my HVAC controller to RF95 feather. I have to level shift an AM2315.
Sweet thanks 🙂🙂 always love you guys corporate responsibility and inclusiveness!
went to look for a p-channel mosfet
That should be on a T-shirt with the Adafruit logo and something broken
thanks, we try
noneeeee
technically if i wore an adafruit shirt, then it would have something broken 🙂
thought i had some DMG3415 and nopeeee
I do have a question about it. Since there are pull up resistors on the board, I assume I don't need to add them.
was not kiddin, we're doin this
perfect for the AM2315
I should probably put a backorder in for a reel of those from somewhere, especially if I'm gonna do more I2C stuff
I feel like most of all boards coming out are going to be LED boards
until LEDs run out
my last camera repair included super glue, my next one will be a shopping trip

mums the word
Love my FunHouse Adabox and am holding my breath....
my dog agrees (his name is mumford)
luckily, i live 30 miles from NYC cause mine isn't shipped yet
I never got much done with my last AdaBox >~>
Thanks y'all!
Thanks @open girder and good night. 🌖
Bai!
Thanks Adafruit 🙂
Monday is AdaBox day if the shipping app is accurate \o/
I still have no update DX
(Speaking of across the country ground shipping)
My AdaBox always arrives on time, usually just hours before JPs unboxing video.
I would love to unbox mine when JP does!
@viral sail it's usually better that way. No temptation to peek. 😁
Same
The unboxing is really a big part of the experience. I love the care the team puts into the graphics design.
And JP is of course awesome
I wish I hadn't gotten spoiled DX
watching back desk of ladyada- didn't catch it live, but if you guys are looking for risc-v with native usb, try gd32fv103 or bl70x if you also want bluetooth. i picked up sipeed's rv-debugger plus recently (bl702) and even the default firmware has some pretty spicy use of native usb
i was watching olympics skateboarding while try to get sleep so didnt catch it live too
Sleeping and watching things don't mix well :P you usually fail at one of them
watching to get the sleep
So it's boarding and puts you to sleep?
no, as i dont do anything physical so its more relaxing to brain too
my pun has failed
also without watching any the mind can go wild with ideas to make and create
Mmmm
Next time let's stay unspoilt unspoiled? I can never wait to follow the clues and figure out what the box is, and then open it before JP. Next time .. next time.
It wasn't my fault! Someone just blurted it out in general
Oh that's sad.
Very
I had figured it was what it is, but I wanted to find out if I was right when I opened the box...
Surprise boxes are really fun. My brain loves a puzzle though and it's hard not to try to figure out the mystery. 🙂
Hehe, very fun
Again, really sorry about that. I was kinda sad that it got spoiled accidentally when going to check my order status and having it right there in the product description, and made a bad assumption that everyone else already saw it.
On that note, can I suggest that the product title not include its contents until after the official unboxing is live...?
In the future, just make sure you use spoiler tags on any AdaBox info to avoid spoilerificating people
Spoilerificationing...
Spolierificationating?
So I only have 2 usb ports on my laptop, every hub I have tried has a whine to it. Does anyone know of a whine free usb hub?
I use Anker hubs. I've never heard a whine. I'd like to think I have pretty sensitive hearing, so I would have noticed, but it's possible you simply have hearing sensitive to a certain range and that includes whatever noise USB hubs make.
Anker hubs get expensive though. I don't know what price range you're looking for, or if you don't care as long as it doesn't whine.
I have two of these with no whine
It seems to me that a likely source of whine would be a switching power converter: some hubs have separate power supplies, so the whine wouldn't be in the hub itself. However, hubs with smart power delivery would probably have their own power converters, so you might want to avoid those.
Some are weird and will have like a 12VDC brick and then internally switch-mode down to 5V with coils and cause whine? Usually odd cheap ones
Thanks everyone! I'll look into these options.
Sometimes it's hard to tell if it is tinnitus or some part I have plugged in. Right now I'm using one of the hubs that I thought was making noise before, and I am not hearing it. 🙂 Win for today - plus added new hubs to cart for future wins.
Tinnitus suuucks
yes. yes it does.
I guess it was worth it to see the Dead Kennedys and B-52s live in small venues as a youth? heh. Maybe not?
sure it dues
If I have enough equipment with fans going sometimes I don't notice it. 🙂 Also my kid gave me some noise cancelling headphones where I can pipe in some good music and that is a good distraction as well. Dentist tried changing my jaw, helped for a few years.
In my case, it was a combination of inherited hearing issues and experiments with explosives.
oh. right. car races and fireworks in states where we could blow anything up.. :p forgot about that. And also the jaw clenching from tension makes it worse.
My ears have always had a ring despite avoiding loud sounds whenever possible
I got my Adabox!!
On friday
Still preparing for shipment... quiet sobbing
I wish we could change the shipping method - UPS is always late for me....
Maybe I should move to Cali so I get mine sooner
HA @teal river you have gotten yours before me at least once
I'm going to miss all but the first 5 of the livestream today 😦 forgot to block out the time to keep appointments from happening during livestream.
Well, I got mine after the livestream last time... that was my first one
Sigh.
