Hi all y’all cool people.

Unknown time to the second shot here still. I did sign up for a study on mix-matching doses if it will get me the second sooner!

teal river

I had a sore arm after the first one like i do with flu shots, but my arm wasn't warm like it is for flu shots... I basically felt dead like migraine + bad cold after the second one for a couple days, but then felt fine

Evening all

teal river

I got sick and slept for most of the 2 days after [aside from the couple morning hours the day after that I tried to muscle thru...]

nova totem

For anyone else in Canada look up the MOSAIC study, its being offered in a few cities if you're interested

The rest of my family felt basically nothing DX

Scott doesn't like networking too 😉

PR for what now ?

teal river

What's Sublime Text?

timid plover

speaking of networking - the show and tell bluetooth file io was impressive

ah yeah the (2) Pimoroni boards have a PWM status LED

autumn turret
teal river

How come red breaking is common?

Ohhh... was wondering if it was a power/voltage thing

Could there be an "editor" in the REPL to be able to modify a python file from the "console"?

wind spoke

Let's do a new standard... xkcd reference needed.

teal river

PineTime?

autumn turret

Wasn't there another File Transfer over BLE that was out there? I think @wind spoke shared it (Twitter link maybe?) a few weeks ago

BT2040 will be a beast!

Wut? The RP2040 isn't the hammer to all these staples I'm trying to use?

teal river

Scott: RP2040 isn't the chip to use if you want Bluetooth
Arduino: Allow me to introduce myself

wind spoke
#

There was an nRF with a 9xxx but the price was high. Does that ring a bell?

autumn turret
wind spoke
#

Are we trying to make computer with MCU?

autumn turret
#

No

teal river
#

RP2040 boards are probably gonna be my hammer for everything because I'm enjoying CP as I get into it, lol

teal river
empty swallow
#

I'd be down with using a RP2040 with a BLE co-processor

teal river
#

Pi Zero W for $5 gives you lots of power AND Bluetooth and Wifi :P

wind spoke
#

Maybe many people were first introduced to MCU because of the RP2040. It's a new world for them. They don't know what else exist.

empty swallow
#

(pronunciation guide is in my username :p)

upper sandal
#

also, sdcard required

empty swallow
#

:D

teal river
#

gasp my Micro Center doesn't have the Zero W for $4.99 anymore!

autumn turret
#

Where can you get them for 5$? The least I see it for ius 10$ :/

wind spoke
#

I have paid all of my Zero for 5£ or so... and I have many.

teal river
#

And they re-implemented the tiered pricing...

empty swallow
#

CP was introduced to me with the RP2040

teal river
#

They used to have the Zero W for $4.99 at my local Micro Center

autumn turret
#

Yeah, the Pi Zero 1.3 is 5$. Needs an additional dongle for Wifi/BLE

upper sandal
#

right, the 5$ one is not the W unless somebody is having a sale

left pier
#

I wonder why the apps around CP seem to always be native code and not ReactNative or Kivy (python)

#

(Thinking of Glider)

wind spoke
#

Do that at the CCC...

light stump
autumn turret
teal river
#

Micro Center had a long Zero W sale, for years, but it is over T.T

upper sandal

This sounds so much like what professors would say when arduino uno started getting popular 😄 it's a wide, and really cool world out there

empty swallow
#

Going back to code after a while, I always seem to go "why the heck did I do it this way"

nova totem
#

LadyAda's great search this week (or last it blends) was great to see her look through microcontrollers. You realize just how many are out there

autumn turret
teal river
#

Guess it'll be checking for voicemails for a while, lol

autumn turret
#

And that was just for 8-bit microcontrollers!

#

You need to tap on something int he advanced settings about a bajillion times

nova totem
#

I haven't had the time yet but after making a featherwing I kinda want to try to make some PCB with a controller on it. Bonus if I can make it work with CP

autumn turret
#

To enable it

wind spoke
#

Maybe you can film the screen with a camera. 🙂

teal river
#

Sorry, I got distracted, what were we trying to enable?

wind spoke
#

screen sharing of the android

teal river

Ah... I haven't done that in ages and forget how >~>

Did I missed the talk about what is a "raw int"? 🙂

teal river

You missed dinner and cat

nova totem

one that isn't cooked?

teal river
#

I meant Spook XD

upper sandal
#

it's an error in ipaddress

cinder wind
#

what about free range organic ints?

teal river
#

Anyone who tries cooking Spook will face the wrath of all eternity

gusty wedge
#

On today's new translate() from circuitpython, there is a line that says raw ip. Let me get it.

teal river
#

Raw IP... binary?

upper sandal
#

ipaddress.ip_address complains when you give it an invalid argument by saying Only raw int supported for ip

autumn turret
#

Not "RIP awww"?

upper sandal
#

I added "string" to that because it also takes strings

wind spoke
#

It is one of the IPv4 notation.

gusty wedge
upper sandal
#

(the text already existed and was translated but without the string)

wind spoke
#

There are crazy way to write IP address that are not a.b.c.d

autumn turret
teal river
#

wha

upper sandal
#

it's just that ipaddress.ip_address can take 0x08080808 for 8.8.8.8

gusty wedge
#

I just didn't translate the word "raw" to spanish, but it would be nice to make it easy to understand in english as well.

teal river
#

0::0

upper sandal
#

but it doesn't take bytes([8,8,8,8]), unlike ipaddress.IPc4Address() (which makes me think there is code sharing to be done there an shave a few bytes)

timid plover

there's always static global variables 🙂

Hey Team - I'll be dropping off pretty soon - hope for another volunteer to add timecodes ( sync to youtube ) to https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wjtSbY3ZfUBeNxF2eAoquTmiu3YIoN6wQdkta4dwOQM/edit#

wind spoke
gusty wedge

grand tusk

grand tusk

rapid hornet

teal river

Switching seems like too much work... Considering the number of machines I use, and the fact that I have to share systems with folks at times, and touch other folk's systems, I don't want to go from 80-100WPM on QWERTY to lower speed on both DX

upper sandal
teal river
#

I have a hard time with context switching between Windows and MacOS, I can't imagine adding different keyboards

#

Windows, MacOS, and Linux at that

smoky island
upper sandal
#

yeah having a special keyboard for one machine and not for others is way too complicated for me

teal river
#

Wait, did you look at your hands before you switched?

smoky island
#

I looked into ways to do it with the python API, but it needs some extra permissions because it wants to make a bot in the channel as far as I could tell, and that seemed excessive to me.

gusty wedge
#

Is there a BLE version of tv-bgone? 🙂

tame dew

I learned QWERTY on a manual typewriter in the Jurassic era. I doubt I could rewire my hand/brain connections

Todays project - Modifying my MaterialDesign icon to BMP project to make PNG's as well. All written i Python. 🙂

grand tusk

I've never worked with MQTT but it seems like a good idea.

clever summit
#

I have loads of stuff talking MQTT on my Home Assistant stuff.

#

I use the Python Git client as well, to pull the latest changes from upstream.

I think you need to give it an url to a bitmap file?

#

Hm. Can browsers even display BMP files? 🙂

manic vessel
#

BMP for the win!

#

Afternoon all.

grand tusk
#

I'm running Paint right now.

clever summit

My converter shows the difference quite well - BMP size 11K, PNG size 540 bytes.

#

And this is at just 75x75 pixel size.

manic vessel
#

Can you try with CircuitPython 7 on the device?

#

Scott and Dan might have fixed something in the memory allocation.

lol

clever summit

Yeah, wasn't worried about storage, more like how you would find the right one....

#

MaterialDesign is used in HomeAssistant as well, so I am used to the look and feel.

autumn turret
#

Are you polling the feed from the FunHouse, or subscribing to the feed?

#

Cool. Wasn't sure from the way you'd worded how it would check the feed. Looking good!

#

So the big secret is that your wife got an Adafruit product from Adafruit? 🤫
🔒 👄

#

That would be weird - delete usually requires write rights

#

Yep, unboxed on Wednesday

#

Ahhhh, that makes sense, yeah

Terminal had cached that it was mounted read-only, even though the volume had been unmounted and remounted

grand tusk

I think you just import wifi, then you can use wifi.radio.

An older project of ours, the STEMMA Friend, has been reborn as an RP2040 board, we'll show off some of the projects we got working with it over the weekend, improvements to the Arduino API for faster SPI and why framebuffering is awesome if you hrave the RAM. Heh, yeah... I got a Slide Trinkey, but the slider was bad. I put in for a replacement, but was left with this defective unit... So I pulled off the slider, and soldered on an OLED, and now am trying to get software working for it on the SAMD21 despite the lack of RAM and flash XD

shadow epoch

teal river
#

I do hope a real OLED Trinkey is in the works! I saw there's an eInk one in the works, so OLED being on the list as well wouldn't surprise me

#

At this point, I wanna see if I can get a custom CP build to run the OLED... because challenge! Out of my comfort zone!

#

Is Trinkey a trademarked term?

shadow epoch
#

Now I'm kind of hoping for a defective trinkey

teal river
#

heh

shadow epoch

I would put the oled with the dome and stick it in a hub that makes it vertical and have an eyeball friend

:teeshirt: code.py.txt happens

fallow fractal

But now it says no module named adafruit circuit playground

#

But it’s plugged in

upper sandal
#

yeah you are in python3 mode

#

to use Circuitpython you put the code.py file on the board and it is run automatically, you don't use the "run" button (which doesn't exist in CP mode)

#

you might need to install Circuitpython first since it looks like it's in the demo code

fallow fractal
#

How do you put it on the board

#

Thank you so much for the help

upper sandal
#

oh that looks like a Circuit Playground Classic on the picture though, they can't use Circuitpython, you would need the Express or the Bluefruit

#
fallow fractal

Forsure so playground express should allow me to put code.py in my MU

#

I have the express

#

Never mind it is the classic.

#

There is no code.py available w the classic...?

upper sandal
#

Circuitpython doesn't run on the classic, it's microcontroller chip cannot run it, you want to look into Arduino maybe

So i need to get the circuit python express in order to run it properly

That?

Than when i get the express i should be fine?

@haughty quiver That would be amazing though to put a webcam feed of your workshop on your screen. I see some possibilities.

waxen thistle
#

@haughty quiver I was looking at the keycaps, and saw some chroma artifacts happening. But there was no "seam" between you and the background. I was wondering...."Is this real life? Or is this just fantasy?"

You should do a quick write-up @smoky island , on how you disable and selective enable USB Mass Storage using the button on the FunHouse. I bet that would help lots of folks not lock themselves out permanently!

@open girder with all this talk of rotary encoders… do you know what the “spinner” controls were for e.g, Tempest and what baud rate they might have needed?

Hello everyone, I have an HC SR04 ultrasonic sensor on my Raspberry Pi Pico board connected to pin 4, 5 then to GND and VBUS. I would also like to connect the MAX98357A 3W mono amp as well. As the sensor already takes 5V would it be OK to connect DIN, BCLK and LRC to the Pico via pins 12, 14 and 15 respectively, but then connect the VIN and GND to a USB cable powered by a 5V 1A adapter?
