But this time more puppets
@lucid marsh Yep.
I gave up on DVDs back around...well, ~2008 interestingly enough.
I wanted to watch a Disney film, Wall-E. So I went out, bought a DVD retail, and sat down to watch it on a Macbook Air + SuperDrive. It scrambled the chapter order as part of a "copyright protection."
It didn't matter I owned a legit, name-brand laptop + their first party DVD drive. Didn't matter that I was using it well within my rights.
I did not own a TV or a traditional DVD player, and I was so disgruntled by that, it was the last DVD I bought out of principle.
how do you get -20% RH ?

@lavish patrol Yep. That was what ended DVDs for me. Unless I got them used from yard sales, etc.
@waxen thistle I did actually get Rogue One on DVD. I think that was my last purchase.
I never bought many DVDs, but the age of DVD-Netflix was golden.

Q: Is the Nordic Softdevice (wireless protocol stack) needed in order to burn the hex version of the bootloader onto the nrf52840? Is softdevice part of the uf2 bootloader? hope this question makes sense.
Of the two covid vacinciens - what one is best?
@haughty quiver Have you been lurking? 😉
Did you have squirrels storing nuts in your line to your house? (speaking from experience)
Q: with low power/deep sleep in CircuitPython, will the LEDs on any connected Stemma boards be turned off, or will there be a way to disable them?
@haughty quiver Lar... i mean, Gremlins.
I am using converter to 1-wire. Because after all this distance it's like 20 meters. Thank you tho
Question: What parts do we need to fabricate our own STEMMA/QT cables? Are they standard parts from Digikey
That was to John @open girder

Is your vaccine from "Pfizer" or "Pfizer Landscaping"? Important question I saw on Twitter.
@haughty quiver 😂

any updates on larger screen magtags?
The pi zero is still one per person. Is that one per order? i.e. can I order more later?

i think if you get the zero, zero w, and zero wh they count separately
depending on what you need
@modest vector yah, just one per order, not one per person per life etc.
How often does DHL lose packages? My AdaBox left Haupage 9 days ago and there hasn't been another scan since then.
i'm not sure what the numbers are, but i had issues with an adabox and emailed support, they sent out a new one
if you have the tracking number they may be able to investigate, but don't know how far they would get 🤷♂️
Thanks.

Adafruit - can you guys take a look at these and maybe carry them? Emulation Technology here used to sell them - last I heard - Molex bought ET and basically killed selling these very handy devices, you may need to pick English at the top left of the page: http://www.mechano.co.jp/product.html
Thanks.
An example product name is: FP-2BL, SMK4, Grabber, Test Clip, 0.5mm Micro IC Clip, Klip
They are high quality, well made, and will last a long time. I bought some 20+ years ago and they still work. Some wore out eventually - but I still have some of the first ones I bought at ET.
Thanks again.
Ideal tool for makers.
That speckle finish case doesn't look 3D printed.
@prime sentinel It's one of those "marble PLA" filaments, I like it a lot
I can believe that, it looks amazing
I was about to say, that's an excellent finish on that case.

@haughty quiver great show and look forward to another year of them
thank you, can't wait for the unboxing session!

Hi @rapid hornet
Yes on both counts.
+1 for "snick"
And back on Discord -- good afternoon again all you wonderful folks!
How's it going
but do the others have a cat cam ?
Explain the Tee...looks cool...
that sounds like a good final push of a day
Busy is an understatement. More like insane. Especially with the nor'easter.

Deep Dive w/Scott for December 17th Hi all, this doc is try and track topics and timecodes for my deep dive stream. These notes will end up in the YouTube video’s description. Any help keeping them groomed as I stream is welcome. Housekeeping I’m sponsored by Adafruit to work on CircuitPython. ...
Do you know much about AVR fuses? or know of an AVR-Expert?
I know some AVR fuses. DM me if you have some questions
is that an external antenna on your magtag ?
Do you know if MakeCode support will come to the CPB?
BLECPKTHXBBQ
YT blocked my message again, I‘m unlucky... 😂 It is time for holidays for my IT equipment (I‘ll type it again here)
Hmm. BBQ.
right serial 🙂
Do you think there will ever be a graphical version of CircuitPython, similar to MakeCode? That would be a great way for kids to start and then not have to recode when they move into straight CircuitPython.
Espressif acknowledged the country.cc issue we discussed on Discord. Do you want the PR that adds country to wifi as a draft before espressif fix is available? 🙂
I've seen enough comments about Wifi issues on the magtag - that I thought I'd ask - ( I found that restarting via low power was a way around it for me )
This looks promising, thanks!
yes - guests would be cool!
I was playing with the Kate editor for first time in years it's quite cool now, especially if you use sublime
yeah, Duo Dive sounds fun
it even has a dark mode
@rapid hornet I have a board that CM4 could fit in 😉
They printed the silkscreen on the bottom...but it's the first prototype anyway.

Live unboxing! Do it!

you should get it before someone else does
go for it!
Time for cat-cam fullscreen? 😉
It has an M.2 connector also
We could have seen a live-delivery if cat-cam was on...

It might need better focus

Which is a fun discussion in linguistics
Latin is the original British 😄
will this be bare metal CP, or under linux?
I am surprised they went PCIe over M.2
cool - you are very lucky 🙂
The PPK2 is powered via a standard 5V USB cable, which can supply up to 500mA of current. In order to supply up to 1A of current, two USB cables are required.
"yeah... that's a mission-critical print statement"
Heisenbug
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules
I do a lot of USB HID stuff. I'm used to that command
I'm not seeing any issues on youtube
Order today, ships today. NRF-PPK2 – Current Monitor Power Management Evaluation Board from Nordic Semiconductor ASA. Pricing and Availability on millions of electronic components from Digi-Key Electronics.
If you have a battery connector, you can jam the bare wires into the Dupont sockets on the power meter
but there were cables in the ppk box or not?
@rapid hornet was deep-diving in boxes
@digital bay the PPK comes with female dupont leads
So if you want to jam them into a battery port, or something you'll need to hook something up
is that smoke 🙂
Just got back -- and that's an interesting looking testing device. How do you like it when compared to the Joulescope?
@rapid hornet why use screen instead of tio ?
Yeah, this is like 1/8th the cost.
didn't know about tio, thx @wispy linden I'll check it out
auto-reconnect saves hours of your life lol
I hadn't seen the silicon jumper wires, thanks for pointing them out 🙂
@rapid hornet which CPy build would you recommend for the MagTag right now we want to play with DeepSleep etc.
awesome thanks
oh I'll have to figure out how to switch to ggc 10 on my ubuntu docker image
That's a huge saving
well i'm back from my trip to the recycling/garbage/compost center. but was listening while there 🙂
So how old is 6.1.0beta2? That's the one I used, but have a bit of an issue with the MagTag library and WiFi. Should I be using the ones from AWS then?
i think wifi keeps getting fixes in main
Gotcha. I'll try AWS first, and see if that fixes my issue. Thanks.
I'm back! ohh I see the PPK2 is running on the back.
fun when printf fixes the problem. )
i wonder if other code instead of the log fixes it.
@open girder should get sales commissions from DigiKey 😄 everything featured on EyeOnNPI goes out of stock quickly
💥 awesome
There was ~90 in stock when I ordered, they were gone by the end of the day
I would say generating the .map file for each compile with & w/o the print and look at the addresses of the releveant variables & functions
digikey found my order that died during checkout, magically fixed it and shipped it to me. I almost reordered the stuff and then the package arrived
@wispy linden Which product is that again?
Order today, ships today. NRF-PPK2 – Current Monitor Power Management Evaluation Board from Nordic Semiconductor ASA. Pricing and Availability on millions of electronic components from Digi-Key Electronics.
Oh look at that, the AWS version does fix my issue! I'll tell MakerMelissa she can close my bugreport.
That was featured Eye on NPI? [sigh. i'm so far behind it feels.]
@rapid hornet I've not been following fully, can you recap again the issue. Is it that as debug build it works, but release it doesn't, or the other way round? And is it just a basic LOG...it doesn't use any variables? or?
The last few weeks have been mildly hectic for me, so I'm not surprised I missed it.
Thanks 🙂
just a esp log statement. with a string i think
@wispy linden -- the wire strippers from Ideal-Tek also were on Eye on NPI, and they were out of stock for like forever. Nabbed a pair that suddenly came back into stock a few weeks ago.
that and the tag definition
Are you inside an ISR?
TAG will be optimised out now?
ok...the compiler stopped it
but with the (void) trick, it probably will be optimised out now
i think relaxing has something to do with space optimization, sometimes by combining strings
use pico ! 😇
i am a poor vim user. can copy and paste

Perform Value Range Propagation on trees. This is similar to the constant propagation pass, but instead of values, ranges of values are propagated. This allows the optimizers to remove unnecessary range checks like array bound checks and null pointer checks. This is enabled by default at -O2 and higher. Null pointer check elimination is only done if -fdelete-null-pointer-checks is enabled.

Merry Christmas, from Chiron Beta Prime!
Where we're working in a mine.
For our robot overlords.
Did I say overlords?
I mean protectors.
The next box should have a Tardis in it -- we need some new time travel tech. ⌚
Could put an RTC in there.
@waxen thistle Yep. I want to go forward to 2023...
We have ice races here on the lake here once its fully frozen

🎄 ♥️
I don't have anything to particularly show, but I just got a Eurorack module from Winterbloom, that's based on Circuit Python!
Winterbloom Big Honking Button.
Neopixels are addictive
@rapid hornet Do you have a link to that box you used for your LED strips? I'm working on something that could use a wall-mount, and that might work perfectly.....
(also, wicked awesome project 🙂 )
Adafruit's ESPTool may or may not be able to read your mind. 🧠
I'm hoping to get on tonight, we finally made a Simon Says game out of our traffic lights!
@deep scarab I think some intersections in NJ are using your code already 😉
ye gods I hope not!
Is there a repo for this web esptool?
Yay! M1 goodness!
@smoky island yes. https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_WebSerial_ESPTool
The real Darksaber needs a holonet bluetooth -- makes it easier for Bo-Katan to find it.
Thank you!
@sage aspen 👋

Thanks Scott!
np 🙂 had to get back to my desk
I need to try to make this puck and see how it holds up to playing hockey with it
Later on, I might ask you about one of your other lights -- you mentioned you use the elgato flat panel light when you stream, right?
yup! elgato key light is the name iirc
@rapid hornet I guess my #1 question is, do you need their desktop/mobile app to use it, or does it have manual buttons on it?
[trying to futureproof, in case they drop app support to control something, it's not an expensive paperweight]
oooo -- that's a nice display
nice grounded displays
gotcha -- that lines up with what I've heard @rapid hornet. Thanks 🙂
👏
my brain did just wonder if I could use an S2 to connect to the light
the shake sells it
@split gazelle is the eink etch-a-sketch Bob Ross. There are no mistakes, just happy little refreshes!
wow, i didn't realize you could write to the screen without a full refresh
@split gazelle which environment is that programmed in?
Nice work @split gazelle
@robust horizon it's using arduino to get the partial refresh
thanks @astral palm !
I guess this project got the green light...
@deep scarab That's a real cool project that anyone in that area will talk about, great to see it in action

QTPy is definitely great. I end up throwing one in my cart almost every buy, just because.
Oooh YES I was hoping to find some of those little bracket pieces
I think people are going to want to get their hands on that code @nova totem
wow, nice work on the matrices!
Yeah, that's pretty great.
That's amazing -- I'd absolutely love to build one of those if you're up for releasing your code 🙂
@nova totem Neat.
super cool @nova totem ! it is a mind melt to get the two working as a square
Conway's Life on that grid would be pretty intense.
need more than the campfire lantern at -20...
now with matrixes you can make smart mirror
ooooops.
Great projects everyone. Thanks for sharing.
Its a real simple STL I can drop it somewhere
see you in a few for adabox .. and next week!
Thanks everyone for sharing! You're an awesome bunch of folks, and remember you're all awesome regardless of what you do and make. Take care, stay safe, and help each other when you can.
great projects everyone!
👍
thanks everyone!
Yes please, if you could just share code and image. I have all the hardware needed and could put that under the tree or at the window!
Thanks @robust horizon @lavish patrol!
Thanks y’all! Super cool projects 😄
@split gazelle I was looking at your demo of your project using two to try to wrap my head around it!
@nova totem oh man i would've sent you the code! i actually have a todo to do a guide on 2 matrixes but i haven't had the time 😅
Adabox 017 is a go!

Nope!
My cat does too 😆
I love the tissue too!
you get free tissue every box 😄
Who could have predicted this? Magtag?
I always think about how nice the tissue paper is
Hi, everyone!
I thought that was a purse..

It just barely dawned on me that the image on the back of the MagTag is a refrigerator. haha.
that magtag needs lo live on my fridge, for my grocery list in Google docs
@shell mason Lol.
@modest vector ha I never noticed!
@urban gale we have a project for that 🙂

“You are what you amplify” – is kinda appropriate given 2020 social media. 🙂
@slow spire You mean I am a polka at 3am? Woo hoo!
I ported John Park's PurpleAir project to the MagTag https://github.com/endico/PurpleAir-for-MagTag
I wonder if that magnetic sheet is strong enough to hold a hard drive on my fridge 😉
Nice! I would like a mashup of weather and AQI
its not the thickest sheet we found
but its pretty strong
they make em up to like 2mm
Can you connect the MagTag to the mask?
Tin Man cybermod sold separately
The adhesive sheet should work great at work for a magtag project I have in mind. Great little touch on this box.
was that glitter mask?
Magnetic mask?
My daughter loves the mask!!
Some leds would be nice in the mask, too 😉
discotech mask what reflct the light
@fluid drum thanks! also great for making postcard or photo magnets
and other crafty projects
The sparkly mask was a delightful surprise!
It’s covered in sequins
All hail Zoltar!
I mean, who doesn't need a sparkly mask?!
@queen birch awesome!
Lars!
Lars!
JZP is the best JEP
After watching that, I would have thought his middle name was Hamm.
the mask made us think of something fun to wear for new years
@wild urchin 😄
🥶
I haven't checked -- are those RGB or RGBW neopixels?
It is indeed a pretty cool project.
@proper trench Lol. While sitting at home staring out the window...
? lost the sound?
I need to wrap my miniature christmas tree in those neopixels using my QtPy to power it
now think of matrix wall
@storm cedar No issues for me
for parties on zoom
@storm cedar Sound is working fine here.
@storm cedar sounds is still goin' try a refresh
you are sitting in tatooine for example and it look real
reloaded and sound fine; ahhhhh
Sound's Ok here. Still getting the funny accent, though. 😄
Yeah, and the color is a bit wonky -- his fingernails are all different colors too! 😛

@waxen thistle I choose to believe mine is cancelled and the next one is early.
@waxen thistle it’s going to rain 2+ inches here and then freeze overnight Christmas Eve into Christmas Day
@wild urchin That's....actually happened to me. Multiple times. No joke, sadly.
🥫
So late travel for sure 😉
@waxen thistle I too have lived in Jersey City.
@lilac tusk I'm in PA at the moment, and we're supposed to get 2-3 with it freezing later in the day. It's scary.
Why am I getting an ElectroBoom vibe?
Thankfully I have nowhere to go
was expected 10cm but came like 2
⚡️ 🤯
Yeah, I haven't been on a train since late February. Can't say I miss it either.
The artist did a great job with the Tarot cards
I agree, love the Tarot card art
i last was in makerspace over 2years ago
@haughty quiver I hope all the good predictions for the new year come true for you! Thanks for an awesome evening & unboxing of Adabox 017!
thank you everyone!!!
I bid you adieu
Now I have to watch Big
🥠
@haughty quiver 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Thanks, all!
Excellent unboxing @haughty quiver , always enjoy the performance!
Thanks for the great presentation all involved!
Great presentation @haughty quiver
🔮
Great Adabox once again! And yet another cool unboxing!
Thank you! Excellent unboxing. I had predicted something special...
Great job, so much fun
Whoa, I blacked out for a moment there, what happened? Who did the unboxing?
lol
Thanks @open girder & Digi-Key. Good night and Happy Holidays. 🌔
Lol
@haughty quiver Lars.
Thanks @haughty quiver and Adafruit!
@pine marten it was just a blank screen!
Uh oh.
Some guy called Zoltan...
great job @haughty quiver !
i feel transported
great job
into a land of electronics!
wait has anyone seen JP and zoltan in the same room? I'm suspicious
Thank you that made my week!
i also want to watch Big again
Thank you for another AdaBox!
No, you aren't. I save it and re-use it in wrapping other things, but I should probably put some in a frame and gently backlight it. Something in an orange, I think.
And Lars the Magnificent.
Loved that, @haughty quiver !

I too miss FAO Schwartz.

Thanks everyone for coming to the unboxing!
I'm enjoying this Adabox. Unboxed it last week and it has been running off battery for 6 full day so far. Keeping me up to date on my indoor climate 🙂
I think this is my fav adabox, but Riff Raff was my fav unboxing host
Well done @haughty quiver and @open girder , for a great unboxing.
You really should be more careful. You do soldering in your workshop, you probably shouldn't gnaw the scenery quite so much. 😆
I'm giving a shoutout to my daughter for being my makeup artist :)
Oh, good idea. Air quality sensor display. With humidity, for those of us with wooden instruments.
Right. I must away. G'night all.
So that's where he went on vacation after the Liberty Mutual commercials.
97.81% sure RGB
Nearly missed the unboxing, happy to see that my guess of the contents was right: this will be nifty to play with!
yay!
Ideally suited to my home sensor network... Just need to see if I can make circuit Python talk to influx db or grafana
I bet the drive arm magnets are...
"It's checking the air quality from INSIDE THE MASK!"
LOL I finally did peel off the screen protector!
Is the mask from the previous adabox sold separately? It's really great, but I ordered what I thought was more of it and got something rather different. (Black fabric masks look pretty similar in online photos)
I don't know, nothing's exploded ... yet.
Buddies with Destro, right?
Thanks again everyone -- OK, I'm off to get out of my costume and makeup and into some eggnog!
get .. into .. the eggnog?
@robust horizon it’s an eggnog suit obviously 😉

DESK OF LADYADA - Long Weekend for Hacking! ESP32-S2 CLUE, BLE sensors, E-Ink displays & clock & SD on a Chip https://youtu.be/h_kmnOEpAYk
We had a lot of time for making, hacking, and tronix this weekend. Fueled up with some tasty Chinese food, we tore apart a Mi Home-compatible BLE sensor and E-Ink clock, added 7-color ACeP E-Ink support to our Arduino library, tried out some SD-card-on-a-chip samples, and even started working on an ESP32-S2 WiFi CLUE board (our last CLUE was des...
Good evening all you wonderful folks!
@proper trench has said she wants to do other versions on the MagTag. I hope she does a super low power solar version. Maybe remove the neopixels and replace them with two of these tiny solar panels. Hopefully that should be enough to keep the battery going if the magtag is mostly deepsleeping. https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/anysolar-ltd/KXOB25-12X1F/9990434
Order today, ships today. KXOB25-12X1F – Monocrystalline Solar Cell 24.5mW 690mV from ANYSOLAR Ltd. Pricing and Availability on millions of electronic components from Digi-Key Electronics.
FYI The datasheet mentions that it works in low light and mentions how much power it gets in warehouse levels of light. so i'm hoping that it would be good enough for a magtag on a fridge (2-5 Watts/m2) . It wouldn't generate much power, but for for something deep sleeping most of the time, it wouldn't need to. (my magtag app has lasted two weeks so far)
Loving those sensors and clock.
"Humans are wonderful bags of salt-meat." ~Ladyada, Dec. 2020
I really appreciate seeing human factors in this design problem
microchip...👀
Thanks for another awesome Desk of Ladyada! Enjoy the rest of your evening!
Cheers! 'Night all!
Something I put in the chat but want to add here just in case: If TFT_RESET is also the reset of the microcontroller, and the BOOT state is latched on reset exit, it seems like you're setting yourself up for a race condition of MCU reset propagation time vs. propagation delay in these gates. You can probably tune your way out of it with a slow R/C pull-up/cap on the BOOT0 line itself (so that if this triggers, it takes a second to get out of it), and if you've already done that elsewhere, sorry for the noise!
logic chips so good
Is there a Show and Tell tomorrow evening? Thinking about showing the Christmas present that I made for my wife.
I do believe that there is a S&T scheduled tomorrow, as well as "Ask an Engineer"
@fast forge Yup!
Do we have the ability to share our screen to show a short clip of the project working?
On the show and tell show yes. There will be a link in here before the show begins to log in to the stream sharing thing. It's set up such that they can do camera or screen share depending on what you are showing.
Awesome! Thanks!
Greetings, all. 👋
Good evening all you wonderful folks!
Evening to everyone!
hello!
I'd wish everybody a Happy New Year, but look what happened last time. 🤔
How about wishing everyone "Good Riddance, 2020"?
@waxen thistle Yep. 👍

Where are the Bleeps and Bloops?
hello hello @lavish patrol && @waxen thistle !

Hello everyone!
love freeform circuit sculptures
♥️ 🎉
🎉 ♥️
Doing a circuit sclupture is on my list of things I want to try to do
Thanks Digikey!
That's so awesome @paper peak that you still have that code
Hoping we'll be able to order/buy the calendar. I'd love to hang that up by my desk!
Interesting. The printer puts strokes through the Ohs, not the zeros.
It might be using the same printed symbol for both. Old typewriters did that with some symbols, like the number 1 and the letter L
@autumn turret You're right. I remember that now.
"new touch on/off control circuit" -> CircuitPython touchio
Thanks @lavish patrol! I'll print out your message and frame it, to remind me of the day "I was right!"
Happy code-a-versary Dan!
My first "program" was a Lotus 123 macro.
Same here @rancid depot, and old tech/electronic magazines
it was slashed oh's and non-slashed zeros. I wrote them that way on paper - I had to switch later in life
@gaunt plume Neat.
thanks andy
Good stuff @gaunt plume
daaaaang the Dark Side has all the good toys
WOW! that dark saber came out good boys!
So, Noe & Pedro both have a rightful claim to the throne of Mandalore, right?
Lol
But, what if there can be only one? 😕
that's really awesome @rapid hornet !
We need that for every state 🙂
It's pretty cool.
That's a great personal gift @rapid hornet. Awesome seeing it "done"!
that's a beautiful board, I need to make up some excuse to do an after dark board
CircuitPython, coast-to-coast.
I'm thinking jigsaw puzzle. Each piece lights up when you you put it in place.
Thanks!
Thanks! Everyone was impressed 🙂
Remember all those state magnets you'd find at tourist traps? You know, back in the days when we used to travel? I'd love to see fancy circuitboards running circuitpython for each state -- just like those magnets 🙂
this'll be so much easier than bmps
That's brilliant @robust horizon! And I love your phrasology, reminds me of "Wonder twin powers, activate! Font of.."
yeeeeeeees! definitely gonna put that on our matrix
+1 for that sparkly text, seriously sweet
++1
Twee!
https://gist.github.com/jepler/ce5bc89879f3ebc41a4ff6dd42e4129e and the font file can be had from https://emergent.unpythonic.net/01606790241
@low fractal I've been following your journey on the LumenCoutre mask -- I'll be modding it too before long 🙂
@robust horizon is from forkawesome import ForkAwesomeIcon native/builtin?
icon.x = 8
icon.y = 108
group.append(icon)
``` thanks to @smoky island for suggesting that I make it work with the icon names instead of unicode escapes
@gaunt plume no, it's circuitpython .py files + a font in .pcf format
I got in trouble for trying to make a nail electromagnet.
I blew a circuit breaker when I ran the 12AWG wire into the outlet....
Looks Great! The memory use might disqualify it for big projects but I love how easy it makes simple things.
There should be an Adafruit time capsule of all projects shown tonight, and open it in 50 years!
you can take just the lines you need from fontawesome_names and copy them into your code, too
It was a good thing it was insulated, I would have been toast.
Oh that's cool @split gazelle I was using ImageMagik to convert to RGB data and reading it in raw. A library would have been a lot easier
@split gazelle what are the advantages or trade offs of doing that versus a bitmap file?
thanks! yeah this is sean's repo with his code. it's formatted for arduino in the version here: https://github.com/IdleHandsProject/pov_ornament/blob/main/python/CreateMatrix.py
zumba rave
A very practical use for all these awesome tools 🙂
i wasn't sure if bitmaps would work with neopixels since the framebuffer image things seemed to only be for blinka
@split gazelle oh yes that's true
I glossed over that part, but you did say that.
all good 😺 so hopefully next week there will be neopixel party parrots
and yes I think you're right about that
Same problem I ran into, couldn't load the BMPs in CP. Didn't look too hard to convert though given a bit of time
ohh this is awesome to show PC stats
How is the data being transmitted from the PC?
Great to see Codingpro again.
and brent is into adafruit io
Is the name "Brent" or "Jeff" a requirement around here?
Lol. Brent 1 and Brent 2. 😉
Looks like an off-by-1 issue @lavish patrol
Originally I was planning to share it over internet, as it was the only thing I knew how to do with a pyportal, but after a couple hours of googling I decided to use serial to send JSON over from a python process running over on my PC
@autumn turret believe it or not i have not met many brents..only 2 others and 1 went to my undergrad and studied under my current PI...and does iot security research 😄
nice hack, is it fast?
@autumn turret You're right again. Brent 0 and Brent 1. 😄
There's also Brent Butt, the Canadian comedian
Aha. he must be Brent 2.
if we'd had more time I was going to show this, inspired by this presentation by Billie Ruben https://hackaday.com/2020/12/18/remoticon-video-how-to-3d-print-onto-fabric-with-billie-ruben/
I have it updating every second, here's my code, though its mostly random stuff from google and python packages
https://hastebin.com/ivelehayic.py
(That's for the python process running over on my computer)
That is really cool @robust horizon
@robust horizon That looks amazing
the art's not mine, it's from Thingiverse 🙂
Brilliantly simple way to transmit it @sacred isle. Very clever
@robust horizon I think that @lethal lagoon might be interested in that (above link to 3D printing on fabrics), as she does a lot with printing on fabrics for cosplay 🙂
thanks everyone!!
There's probably much better ways to do it :p plus it only works on windows pcs at the moment I think
Great job everyone
Great projects all!
thanks all, happy end of '20
I don't have a full year of Show & Tell under my belt yet .. I'll keep working on it though
Happy early new year :p
thanks so much for hosting show and tell @open girder! such fun stuff.
There might be @sacred isle, but it's one of those things where you can get SOOO caught up in that part, that the project stalls. You found a nice, simple, clever way around it. No messy "protocols", special data formats, etc.
Thanks everyone for all your awesomeness for this past slog of a year. You're excellent, and keep up the good work into 2021!
great projects everyone! i really found show and tell to be a very helpful check-in every week during the pandemic so thank you all
Thanks :)
This was the first year I ever was on Show and Tell and gave me something to look forward to each week, presenting or just watching
So many great projects
@sacred isle what is the little display in the white frame? I missed tath
So awesome of everyone who shared their projects. So much cool stuff and inspiration!
M5 Core2
🙂
@paper peak
The display is a pyportal
@robust horizon I'm hearing ya regarding snow, I'm not a fan. Mainly because it's something that i need to shovel so much just to make it out of the driveway.
catching up on show and tell, anyone know if the SEL 840A supports circuitpython?
Snow & Tell?
@lucid marsh I'm not sure whether it supports USB.
I love snow, even shoveling it.
Primitive technologies.
I loved it even more when I had a tractor to plow the driveway with
but it's Universal Serial Bus!
A nice 32HP heated cab Kabota tractor with hydrostatic drive
We still have to make sure the ongoing coup attempt in the USA doesn't succeed. It doesn't look like it's going to, but still.
My favorite resolution still is 1920x1200.
I miss 1920x1200.
You know a large vehicle that transported all kinds breakfast would also be a Universal Cereal Bus
AKA a bowl 😉
Milk is the carrier signal.
Wasn't it this last one @wild urchin ?
With horoscope and such?
Congrats @lilac tusk
It was "Good fortunes ahead", which would seem to fit
But the CPX on there makes me wonder if it was tho
...... Echo ..... echo ...... echo ....
New job, continuing on a nasa SBIR, working on Oak Development boards and drivers. Exciting times ahead in 2021
Soothing presentation, +1 for Colin's videos being a real gem to watch.
Wow, big kudos to you @lilac tusk
I’m hoping to really give back to the community more this next year because of how much it’s helped me
@lilac tusk best wishes as you begin your new job!
Programmers aren't evolving as fast as the hardware.
Also, software is a gas, it expands to fill the available space.
I think I'm Devolving... 🙄
Finally got on the AdaBox train... thank you for the heads up about how few are left!
@robust horizon Speaking of 1920x1200 -- I kid you not, I've refused to get some laptops because they didn't have a 16:10 aspect ratio.
(TBH I was a bit envious last week during the unboxing)
Welcome aboard @tame dew!
My refrigerator has a giant MagTag shaped hole on it
@waxen thistle I miss my 4:3 1400x1050 laptop
74 series logic! Yeeeeeesssss!
3:2 (featured on the Microsoft Surface line) is mildly acceptable. But never again 16:9. I've tried, and I can't.
I have absolutely impulse bought substantially because of product pick of the week.
Like a magnet & StemmaQT magnetometer, JP's shows help us come together.
@waxen thistle I prefer 9:16 for code display....
lol "It's about time"
I used to use a Seiki 37” 4K tv as my monitor. Multiple terminals with large fonts open all the time. Tmux muscle memory.
Maybe I’ll by a new tv and return the seiki to its intended service
I'm tempted by one of those curved 1440p displayes
If there's someone I'd want in my corner during a crisis, it would be PT.
