rc.1!

tried out the robot xylo with cp 6 yesterday and it's working swimmingly still. ble initial connection seemed a little speedier too
Parking my question here about having a run through on connecting two 64 x 32 LED panels together (putting two Adabox kits together) and what all is involved there
that ring is so cool
I'm feeling inspired π
Such a cool idea to have it in those plastic balls
Thanks for the support in playing the video @open girder !
You guys inspire me!
Going to order the radio kit right now. That was a great video and great cause
@split gazelle appreciate you posting the link
@rancid depot awesome kits!
That inspires me to get my daughter interested when she gets older. She just turned 2 but I can't wait to share this with her
I like all the colors
@glass moat thanks! my oldest daughter is 2.5 π need to get her started early!! π
@rancid depot Ah good deal. Maybe I should get her going sooner then. Competition between the girls for a spot on the class of 2042 at MIT π
anybody have inventive uses of the spent component tapes and reels?
@rancid depot I love your kits! Perfect for my niece and nephew!
@lethal lagoon thank you. I have seen your amazing work over the years....
Just sent the link to the kit to a friend who was looking for ideas for home schooling her daughter who "wants to build a robot"
@robust horizon the only thing I've ever seen is a tape reel tie fighter
that makes me feel much better about some of my 3d printing
i was thinking the same thing @robust horizon
Half the challenge of 3d printing is figuring out how to clean up my 3d printer after misprints
or keep the cat away from stray filament
I have to stop collecting parts and actually get projects going haha
How does everyone else handle this challenge?

@glass moat ooh signing up for Adabox is kind of great for that, because it contains everything you need to actually make some projects so there's no delay between sourcing the parts and making the project π and it's fun to get a fully curated box of goodies from Adafruit
@lethal lagoon no doubt. Have been with the Adabox since 002 (picked up 001 from MicroCenter) but just thinking/theorizing there being a tool out there where you plug in the ingredients and out spits a recipe aka another project to crank out
ooh i love that idea!
this is super useful info! i have a few mems microphones in my stash, and i could never quite figure out how to use them

What do you guys think of the Zilog microcontrollers? i believe they are called the eZ80. ever used them?
should I copy my question from YouTube to here?
Parking my question here about having a run through on connecting two 64 x 32 LED panels together (putting two Adabox kits together) and what all is involved there
probably
Hey, can we get matrix portals with the cable connector, or with no connectors soldered on?
the top secret stuff is so cool @open girder
ooooh neato!!!
Also, a nice 4 way joystick and buttons via i2c would be greate
Question for the show βdid you see any way to add a camera to the upcoming Pi 400?
matrix = Matrix(width=128, height=32)
@bronze iris I think an i2c gpio expander might help with that -- https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-seesaw-atsamd09-breakout/ is one example
Perfect thanks @split gazelle and @dim knotcrew
Can you map the panels? So itβs not just one Kong pannel? Like 4 panels into a square?
Not in CircuitPython, this only makes a longer panel and not a taller pannel @bronze iris
but yeah I think @split gazelle had tricks π
Great show!
thanks all! great stuff as always
great show! happy wednesday everyone!
@bronze iris if you map out your art in the square and then label your square's real world x and y for matrixes then you can "trick" it πΊ (i hope that makes sense, it's a little confusing)
Not so good for interactive uses
in the department meeting where they were telling us to make sure we vote, i asked if they had considered making it a holiday. They answered, "Its not a US holiday, work with your supervisor"....
I'm building a small LED strip dimming circuit using a ESP32 feather and MOSFET. It is driving the MOSFET gate at 1000hz. But I'm getting flickering. I added a 1000uf capacitor to the output side of the LED strip but didn't help. Where should I go next in troubleshooting?
Thanks @open girder and good night. π
thanks for a great set of shows!
My next project seems to be to port the python displaying to the raspberry pi matrix code base
night!
Thanks for the show!
thanks all! goodnight!
Great show
Night all!
Iβm work8ng hard to move all my code to one python codebase I can deploy in circuitpythin and other targets
I also really want a port of displayio on my Mac for easy testing without the microcontroller
Wishlists.
@bronze iris for that check out what @smoky island demoed on show & tell!
@bronze iris https://github.com/FoamyGuy/Blinka_Displayio_PyGameDisplay Here is the repo for it. I have done only Linux and Raspberry Pi testing so far. But as long as you can get PyGame to work on Mac this should work for you I think.
I always miss show n tell, West coast time
If you end up giving it a try let me know how it goes and I'll add a note to the readme about whether it works on Mac.
Iβll take a look and let you know!

I choose @haughty quiver over #CNN, but wake me up if some breaking news arrive.
Breaking news - Lars is missing. πΆ

wait... I think Lars is moving....
Of course Lars is moving.
He's planning something...
uhoh John's drinking uozo again
wow that e-ink image looks really good, only only 3 colors!
that eyes look like its from special adabox unboxing
That's Ponyo, right?
@haughty quiver you can probably use cmd-plus/cmd-minus to zoom while the dialog is up

Hi Scott and all.
Hi Scott
i did buy some adafruit stuff. got here finally, mail to canada is rather slow
its actually good timing as it the eink feather thing
still in the package.
i like the youtube chat size. seems larger today. much nicer on my tv
i'm sort of playing with the tinyuf2 bootloader today. for esp32s2
FWIW, this is like an esp32 (wifi+bt) with native usb, and it's a riscv chip. https://www.bouffalolab.com/bl602
So we can take an ESP32S2 for the build in Wifi, and use AirLift for BLE (but with the current limitation of HCI-BLE).
The electronics cats crew is testing it, and it's super early... kinda like it was with the esp's a while ago. (there is now esptool o luatool for it, for example)
yes i saw that last week
Can only buy them in alibaba for now.
and not much docs
@rapid hornet The board that electronic cats has, does not has a serial programmer.
It looks like the usb traces go straight to the chip.
aliexpress.com
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
looks like pine64 has a board coming as well
@simple fractal Yes, actually the little doc in english there is so far, is from the pine64 people.
i think the sdk has some object only stuff which is what they are eliminating
from cnx-software "First, Sipeed says the code is mostly open-source except for three libraries: ibblecontroller.a, libatcmd.a, libbl602_wifi.a, all of which are un-obfuscated, and easy to disassemble."
is there a winner?
I love election night, I got 4 in a raw for free!
i'm joking. we actually have some americans in town (in canada) and they are keeping me informed
seem logical. vote by mail that is. our provincial election was on a weekend. easy to vote
Four free what in a row?
lol, i was wondering as well
Four free what in a row?
@prime sentinel Four election night...
Watching CNN until 2AM (in europe)
Ah, now I get it!
I know it's not out yet, but I'm guessing we can ask... It that eink with partial updates? What colors?
Belgium turnout is above 90%, all voting in persone on a single day.
Because vote is mandatory in Belgium!
Mostly paper vote and manual count...
I have been late to the e-ink party. I still want the e-reader that I tough hack-a-day was going to make a bunch of them as they won the feather contest.
It took us 500 days to know who is our prime minister. π
Is it the same as the "cloud" thing that Limor showed in TopSecret?
I welcome all to come an visit a costarican election. It's such a civic party, we go and vote with our families, we meet old friends at the voting places, it's a day off for everyone, people with cars and buses help people to travel to their voting places, we have no electronic voting at all and the results are always ready in a couple of hours.
Now that's civilization!
Is it a portal (full with everything) or a FeatherWing (and Limor can do a low power Feather to drive that)?
Almost all public schools are voting places (and almost all schools are public)
we have no electronic voting at all
@gusty wedge I am since more than 20 years in an NGO fighting electronic voting in Belgium.

I definitely prefer vote by mail, specially if they mail you a notice about the smaller elections. I missed a local one once because I was traveling and didn't know about the election until I was already out of town.
Can we guess what is getting into stock? Pi400? π
I have a very good guess π
@floral adder turned is Pi400 into a keyboard for another computer. I challenged to turn the Pi400 into a BLE keyboard.
i did order one of the pi400 all in one things from a canadian supplier
Limor knows you are LIVE on stream... she does that on purpose.
scott needs a discount code so we can all buy like mad.
or a referral code at least
no JP discount if you watch the recording π
I think Limor and/or Phil are number fetishist, some of the product have a chosen product number to make them special.
SAMD21 with WiFi and BLE ???
The AirLift ESP32 module has WiFi and BLE
Oo, better error handling in esp32spi π
BTW, this weekend I'll be building a Meshtastic testnet here in Costa Rica, and if it works, I'll be sending it to an indigenous community in Nicaragua that has just been extra affected by Eta. All of central america is doing bad, but our friends from the miskitu community had is way worst.
The Adafruit MagTag combines the new ESP32-S2 wireless module and a 2.9" grayscale E-Ink display to make a low-power IoT display that can show data on its screen even when power is ...
Sadly, it's arduino code... So later on, I'll try to port it to circuitpython
The AirLift ESP32 module has WiFi and BLE
@gaunt plume But not simultaniously (AFAIK).
correct
Wifi on the Airlift is in SPI... but HCI-BLE is it SPI or UART?
UART
Oh I want to potentially update my weather display to use that. Not sure why a waether display needs LEDs but I'll find a reason
Literally, fresh out of the oven.
15 in stock...
Is there a good table that just lists the differences between all the ESP32 versions? I'm now all confused with S2, WROOM, etc...
Well, youtube has 138 spectators.
Literally, fresh out of the oven.
@gusty wedge Literally. I saw it earlier.
so this magtag replaces my maytag clothes washer
and dryer too if you flip it over
@modest vector I always look at
https://www.espressif.com/en/products/modules
Espressif offers a wide range of fully-certified Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules powered by our own advanced SoCs, including ESP8266, ESP32 and ESP32-S series.
3 in stock...
The mini ones are sweet
JPs make a show of 20 minutes to talk about an old product... you don't talk about the product and they are all gone in minutes!
So can you tell us what we have ordered exactly?
I'm surprised the Pi4k has so many people interested in it, honestly.
order first - ask questions later....
I didn't expect such high interest in it. I run my Pi's headless
power switch is under the battery
Hehe, I see your electronics have cat hairs all over the place too. I can relate.
I really like the inclusion of the stemmaQT connectors on all the new hardware (metro esp32s2 surprised me)
Will my Feather ESP32S2 from Unexpected Maker arrive before my MagTag. ??? I guess not!
fact of life - plus a good camera π
haha, no worries. I was just laughing. I bought some white ikea containers and found out my cat likes to sleep in them more often than I thought. They are now constantly covered in black hairs.
Any functional differences (for CircuitPython) between the ESP32-S2 setup on MagTag vs new ESP32-S2 Metro?
Also switch your camera so we can see your PR π
Forgot to order the "Mini Magnet Feet". π¦
dang that focus snaps so quickly, my GH4 weeps
The color is well choosen, like the colour of the eInk.
what is the utility you use that changes your terminal prompt to show colored git information?
I have two DOIT and I was not able to DO anything with IT. One as Nina, but I failed on the pin to use, the other one has MicroPython.
This is so weird. Another of those riscv bl602 boards I was showing earlier. One looks and has the pins of a full size SD card.
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/Uec1d28de1f3542a89ae61476a5478adck/HF-LPS170-BL602-Small-Size-Low-Power-SDIO-Wi-Fi-BLE-Module-Linux-SDIO-2-4G.png
interesting...
thank you
@smoky island check out https://starship.rs also
@smoky island check out http://ohmyz.sh
yes! I just switched to starship last week to test it out and like it.
I switched from ohmy to starship....love it...
I had issues with slowness with ohmy...
I like how it shows your build env.
i will try it. just to annoy myself π
I've heard people talk about speed issues and I see plugin speed up stuff in their awesome- repo, but I've not had issues. I'm probably not a power user with too many plugins
yes, like when its red. makes me check what happned
@left pier you need some font update π
Yeah, I have to look it up
@left pier what terminal are you using? iterm?
iterm2
I have been listening to "street of philadelphia" because CNN was talking about Philadelphia all day.
@left pier i knew it! In the profile settings, select the font you want to use
And when Limor was saying "Regulator" of low power board, I started to listen to "Warren G Regulators". π
@gaunt plume tx! All I had to do was check Use builtin powerline glyphs
This is the sort of task Iβd use git grep to find those hidden references
the UF2 bootloader?
For anyone who wants to know why that matters
no more ? block
... more block ?
the question mark block icon you had before
That is now the branch icon
Serious question: Since each board has a different USB ID, would it be possible to have an auto upgrade thing: "Plug the board, double press reset, the script detect what board it is, download the lattest firmware and copy to it"?
οΏ½, or the ? in the block...it's called "tofu"
Also, Adafruit has amazing covid screening, bleach sprays, etc. Not really, but I would lick a board from adafruit, if I had to.
...cant say i've done that
Before covid, I did lick a circuitplayground. My students were scared that we were touching pcb's without static gloves. So, I was showing them that they should not be afraid. (and, it was the back of the board..)
What did it taste of? kinda snakey?
oh now you tell me not to lick the baords
π
seattle after August 15th... is dry for a while π
yes, some text editors will do auto-save and that could trigger a circuitpython reload
But it is Fridge Magnet... but for the outside of the fridge, not the inside.
I'll remember that @gusty wedge. I'm mailing CircuitPlaygrounds to my nieces and I had to convince my Brother that even though the components are exposed they are not dangerous. I guess now I'll have to lick them just to prove it π
Bitcoin, you don't need icon.
@modest vector I also run the (arduino) mega demo before the class, and before I show them what does the board has, I ask them to explore the board in the mindset of children, and as soon as someone gets what one of the demo does, we move to the next one. (and then I show them how to load cpy)
(fyi I downloaded a font from nerdfonts to get the branch icon in starship)
That vga2hdmi looks like one of the models that can be hacked, and used as SDRs π
ok starship installed on pwsh and wsl2. its actually rather nice.
radio.killed("radio", "star")
i kept looking for starfish. and starfish shell. lol
video did it π
Ok, I'm going to hop off and cook dinner. Watching the rest of the stream over the weekend. π
I thought you would introduce an error as part of the learning process π
i'm having leftovers later. beef stew and noodles
it will be an almost beef stroganoff
mumbling noises about using vscode π
i actually started on sublime back in the beginning of it, moved on
can you create a 'secrets.py' and import that?
i was a textmate (or i think it was textmate) user on my mac
@modern night totally can do that
this code is a lot simpler than the equivalent i have in c/c++
Snow?
running on snow is not recommended
@left pier cool! The transition from standard python to circuit python is one I'm working on my confidence in. Thank you!
I've never seen snow. Not sure if I want to... I'm so cold right now (it's at 18C)
just ran into this name conflict this morning working on using Blinka_PyPortal with PyGame display π
Is asyncio not in circuitpython? If not, has anyone gotten it to work?
I did not even know that ...
https://docs.python.org/3/library/secrets.html
my usual one called, 'asecretplace.py' and then write from asecretplace import weatherkeys because it avoids naming conflicts and is sillier
Do we get the REPL on the eInk?
@modest vector asyncio itself is not included I think. But we did recently get async and await implementations.
I live in Sweden....I've seen snow π
i felt bad for the Syrian refugees who showed up here mid winter. Luckily they were provided with lots of warm clothes
i read a lot of scandinavian detective/police novels. lots of snow and rain. and cloud and stuff
Oh thanks @smoky island and Scott.
I'm trying to get something like this going: https://github.com/sbidy/wiz_light
Taken nearly 5 years ago... Nov. 22
new meaning for dress for success !
or new meaning as dress for weather
Brace yourself...
...results are coming.
In Bellingham a little north of Seattle we got hit by a relatively bad blizzard this Jan
Going to see snow tomorrow near Seattle at a little Mountain called Rainier
current webcam at visitor center
I think that was my car last december
@simple fractal Cars like to have hats when it's cold π
I have yet to understand how anyone can drive in snow. I can walk in it, can't drive in it.
also that iced car
Freak October storm last year, right behind me was a car - now under a tree
This year we had one minor snowfall. and since then rain. so skiing is not ready quite yet
@modest vector good tires are magic and make driving easier in snow
from twitch... https://www.adafruit.com/product/3535 for a second... Some new open hardware projects have their schematics and details in github ( was 3535 pre github ? )
Will Melissa do a Portal library like for Matrix and PyPortal?
Any new plans for electioncal? sleep() for ~3 years?
what about mid-terms π
Yeah, those big library are... problematic. And using those without the library is not well documented.
@gusty wedge @drifting arch we need about 100 new volunteers
There are election in January !!!
a Feather M0+eInk getting data every 5 minutes via Wifi lasts 3ish days on 350mAh battery (in Arduino so I can sleep it)
4 night of CNN make me an expert!
Do you know if there are any crazy big hurdles in the way of having PNG image support in addition to BMP?
(My night are your days).
@wind spoke I 2nd then!
the fridge
I would love to try this out using LoRa instead of WiFi...I guess I can do some tests when I get my nucleo power board.
I like to have Pie in my fridge, not Py on it...
Oh, I do have a pie in my fridge.
reset the board
Emma said she'll bake me a carrot-cake if/when Blue takes the win....
Thanks for the stream, it was pretty cool as always, and I will know snow sometime. I like silence...
Thanks tannewt!
Thanks Shawn Scottcroft!
thanks again scott. now i want my magtag. guess i can just play with the eink display π
That was great.
now back to uf2 and shifting bits
Thanks for the stream always a good time
Thanks!
Thanks !

thanks all!
Thanks @rapid hornet , great stream again. Didn't buy anythin gtoday since I did my shopping spree yesterday, but you can still take credit π The stream keeps me coming back to Adafruit.
great! Thank you @modest vector
yes, i ordered a magtag online. should get here next month. π
Was just catching up on @rapid hornet βs livestream, wife walked in the room at 1:18 just as this came up and went nuts that my name appeared on your computer! Thanks π
MagTag also looks awesome for her next project!!

I want to make a really slow Game of Life on my fridge with this

@cinder wind With that onboard accelerometer, you could do a step of the "Game of Life" every time you open the fridge door- might even outlast you or me! π
haha totally, @shy sage
The Great Search - Right Angle Tactile Switch
https://www.digikey.com/short/zdv87r
Tactile switches go into all our designs. From the mini, to 6x6mm, we like them for all sorts of uses. This week we're going to look at right angle tactile switches including the type we put on the MagTag board for reset+DFU. These switches are easy to pick and place and have a nice clicky feel.
Q: any idea on the current draw of the fridge magnet? How often would it have to be recharged? Any deep sleep modes that can be enabled?
@rancid depot I know they're actively working on deep sleep for CircuitPython
@rancid depot get to that Q in a bit after this search segment
@nova totem oh that would be awesome in extending battery life to up the quality of the projects for sure.
Obviously not the same hardware but with a M0+Wifi feather and an eInk display I get about 3 days with a 350mAh battery with adafruit IO refreshes every 5 minutes
That's not bad at all considering the 5 min refresh.
@open girder thanks! Good stuff π―

@rapid hornet will your tiny logic friend support the esp32-s2?
I came across this code example: https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/blob/357a2776032299b8bc4044900a8f1d6950d7ce89/examples/peripherals/gpio/main/gpio_example_main.c

Good afternoon.

You're not the boss of me, JP! goes to page anyway, puts OLED in cart
Yeah, same here. It's a weekly ritual now.
@lunar pulsar not out of the box. I'd like to get back to it at some point though
back in my day with my QuickCam, 16 grays for videoconferencing was all we got, and we liked it!
This is a color screen for colour blind...
Could be interesting for "Pico8" that has 16 colors... I don't know how they match to gray scale.
breaking: adafruit's JP confirms presence of the grays π½
@rapid hornet i.MX? I was looking at putting sigrok on an rp4 for direct gpio access and came across your stream.
Thanks @haughty quiver
Thank you @haughty quiver !

Great show & no audio issues today.
Hurray!!!
@lunar pulsar I was prototyping on the SAMD51. I think the imx is interesting because it has high speed usb. to be clear: it doesn't work now and needs more software work

Those glue sheets are pretty rad, I wonder how they'll hold up being exposed to temperature & humidity differentials
I had success coating my electronics I leave outside in "corrosionx". Aimed at boats and ships but I've seen demoed for RC planes and stuff too that may get wet
looks awesome, I wonder what is the temperature operation range for the sensors.
It can get pretty chilli in Canada

Goood evening everyone!
My magtag should arrive tomorrow or friday
mine was not safe yesterday afternoon
@gaunt plume You'd think it's safe, but it's a false sense of security. π
@split gazelle Neither was mine, but I emptied most of my wish list (that's good and bad!)
@waxen thistle you can always get ready
@split gazelle That's what mine said on Friday with a new 3D printer that should be in sometime this week
@split gazelle And it's a budget printer that has more features than my Prusa Mk2s -- I nabbed a XVICO X3S for a sweet discount, cheaper than what I paid for my b&w laser printer.
We really are in the future when it's cheaper to print in 3D than on paper.

seems right. although i was watching some news just before

I am unable to make any Express board work with the Arduino IDE. In fact, after a few uses, my Windows 10 machine refuses to acknowledge the existence. I've tried every express board, including Circuit Playground, Itsy-Bitsy M4, and Feather M4. A couple uploads, and suddenly it is gone unrecoverably. I've asked many times in the fora, and I'm not getting useful answers (or any answers). I want to do projects, but right now they are C/C++ projects, and I've been stuck for weeks! How can I get a workaround?

lol, seems like there was not a lot of thought that went into the tariffs. amazing.
There were some electronics items, such as the GoXLR that jumped in price by 25%. Which really didn't help encourage spending for specialty electronics companies that operated on a slim margin.
I hope Limor gets invited back to the White House

@open girder Why is the MagTag logo black and white... and has a gray scale screen.
Another great reason to buy from ethical companies. I'd rather pay more for someone that will fight for "good"
@open girder Software patent ??? Software is math, how can we have patent on math?
Whaaaat that is so cool. Garden roomba!
lol, i was in court as an 'expert' witness involving some accounting computer thing. The judge went off on a tangent about printers. Lots of talk about nothing.

It is complicated. Turns out that neither software nor hardware should be patentable, and if you look at it in detail, neither copyright nor patent are the solution. The goal is a sui generis law, a law specific to protecting intellectual property expressed as either hardware, software, or a combination. We were worried about this in the mid-1980s, but the people responsible for the laws being passed don't want to be bothered with real problems, instead giving us DCMA (which I claim does not stand for "Digital Millennium Copyright Act" but "Disney Must Conquer All", because this terrible law was pushed through and passed by technically incompetent legislators because Disney was handing out massive bucks because the copyright on Mickey Mouse was about to expire. Well, it expired anyway, and 20 years later we are suffering from this really bad law. But neither copyright nor patent work right for either hardware or software, but getting a good law would require both competent legislators and motivation to do the Right Thing, as opposed to the The Thing That Brings In Campaign Funds. I was there in the middle of this in the 1980s at the Software Engineering Institute. Look up Pamela Samuelson for detailed discussions of copyright/patent problems.
@split gazelle well said.

@plucky glen Very interesting. I am happy with Copyright for software, and that seems to make sense and work for protecting Free Software. Also make sense internationaly (even with Napoleon vs AngloSaxon difference). But I can agree the lenght of Copy protection is too long. I am not sure I like sui generis new right like what Europe did for database. But sure patent is not right for software. (What is the status with "Alice").

Question: I absolutely love the Adafruit Grand Central M4, because it exposes almost all of the pins - which helps me to quickly prototype an idea before creating a custom PCB. Any thoughts on releasing "all-ish the pins" boards for ESP32-S2 or NRF52840?

I have it for github, and several other places. It's standard, works like PyOTP.
google has it too!
Might have to check that out, it'd be nice to have a different device for 2fa
i use authy and 1password (which also has totp_
Yeah, sha1 has been out for 15 yearsh is.
Maybe it would be a nice thing to improve adafruit's ssl.
Collision...
This stuff always gives me a headache whenever I dive into certs
like my hair , weak roots
So it is missing an option that does not disable SHA-1 for root but refuse it for all other level.
Checking certificate also mean having a good clock and checking the validity too.
Once you said: Circuit Python is not for security... so you could accept weak certificate to maximise the number of server it can connect to.
Of course Adafruit.io is important. π
Good afternoon all you wonderful people!
What would be interesting is clear instruction on how to add a trust authority (root) so that I can put the "company" PKI in CP gadget where I would recompile the firmware.
good afternoon to you as well π
Well, CircuitPython has been and will be in space, so making it insecure is not a good idea as well.
Aliens using it as a foothold

But sha1 is like starting to port something to python2 π
back when i was doing it support i spent a fair amount of time getting webservers secure.
So in python also we get an error for such a self-signed certificate. We can fix the same by passing the certificate
req = urlopen("https://dev.tarunlalwani.com/testme", cafile="/vagrant/certs/selfsigned.crt")
req.read()
'GET /testme \n'
interesting
I am interested in Ethernet.
Might not be fort knox, but at least you're getting the low-hanging fruit.
You have 3 network stack... Nina, ESP32S2 and that Wiz(?) 5000(?) ethernet module. What else.
Full Disclosure: I was a Cisco trainer and network eng. (and my first job before that was to build a PoC PKI).
lol, i was on the other side as a user of cisco stuff. and meraki.
I'm on the SAN-side of Cisco & Brocade -- oh the joys.
wow, that's a testy bug. Nice job narrowing it down and finding it
Is there a macro processing that could help put readable firmware message, but that do not have a cost at runtime?
LAs follow the old adage: "You think it's working? Prove it."
Same goes to Wireshark with networking π
Volume is fine
Clever people whomever developed that.
But then why only 2 shade of gray?
And then someone will explain how they make 7 colors. π
Oh man...hearing how the fancy 7-color panels (like the new Pimoroni board) work I think might melt my brain
I might be completely missing something--but if the arduino and circuit python got different grays, and these cycles are kind of different, can you get more 'gray resolution' out of the panel?
So take that 7 one and LadyAda ESP32S2 Pi size board.
that makes sense
Limor mentioned on a "Desk of...", I think, that she got one of the raw panels to start playing with...but it's not out yet π
was it Ben Krasnow's stuff? https://hackaday.com/2017/10/31/ben-krasnow-hacks-e-paper-for-fastest-refresh-rate/
Could it be Juul's work?
Imagine a 10" full-color eink paper, as a PDF/comic book reader.
Can I shake the screen real hard and "erase" the image? Etch-A-Sketch style.
lol
Imagine a 10" full-color eink paper, as a PDF/comic book reader.
@waxen thistle Tell me, I am Belgian.
eink bleeding red? That's horrifying. But great around halloween...
So far my eink with red isn't bleeding but if it starts i'll bandage it and get a picture
Has been sitting in a drawer for 6-12 month...
This is supposed to be black and white on a red capable eInk. So white is now pink.
Joycon for colour check.
I now have two ESP32S2 so excited to play
$87 usd
Put the ESP32S2 "Pi Zero" like board from Limor... (is that top secret).
You can talk to Gadgetoid... he wrote the code (likely).
I have a question that's not eink related: my qtpy does not automatically reload whenever I save a file. How can one enable that for other boards?
And I also have a question unrelated to anything discussed so far: Were stats collected from the voting site you created? How many people used it?
Oh no! I liked this bug, haha.
Excellent turnout -- last I heard it was in the mid-60%
Belgium as 90+ % turnout of all citizen in age of voting... (vote is mandatory)
There is a German Word for that...
+1 for that request -- i'm in the middle of building a sturdy performance PC, and flakey USB is something I won't tolerate either
I'm using a Macbook Pro 16" right now, Catalina. But I'm thinking of getting a performance Win10 machine. With maybe a second bare-metal Ubuntu box with the same higher quality components but not as specc'ed out.
44 bytes is the average size of a long german word...
woo! I made the cut
Wohooo!
Did we discuss dithering for font to have better readability? What if I could write in black and white to a buffer that is two times bigger than the real screen, and then displayio squeeze to the eInk screen and use grey.
could you use a variable encoder to compress that, like a dictionary (lz78 or something)?
where would I look in the repo to look into that?
umlaut rulez: Àâü
Γ₯Àâ
lol...nice
Any tips for a font that works well on low resolutuon displays?
Maybe you should build on demand...
I'm not saying no to ninja. But ccache might do this "by accident".
So if you split the error message outside of the compiled code... you can make much less compilation.
Like you could have a defaut short English error message, and a file to drop to have the other languages.
"Error 0x639F3D. Look it up nooob"
Statistics of non us-EN download?
EN-Pirate is required
could there be a 'error focused' dictionary that'll be built to encode those specifically, and a flag to tell the compression to switch between the standard compressor and the error compressor?
At work we have mandatory multilingual with no prefered language... for 24 languages.
"A vast majority of what you're compressing are error strings"--is there a place I can find those?
Text compression techniques - https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/computer-science/text-compression
ok, so everything between a " is what you're compressing?
And the dictionary is unique to a language?
so.. say I write my own compressor and decompressor for those strings--how would I compare my compression to the makeqstrdata.py compression?
thank you!
Thanks Scott!
That was great...
Thank you @rapid hornet. You are awesome
Use a pycubed, they have lot's of space π
great show!
Thanks Scott!
Thanks all!
Good times...thanks, @rapid hornet and all y'all!
thanks scott, missed most of it as i was on a conference call. it looked good.
