(heh)
huh, mabye my washer just hates the shirt then
That's probably it.
@wispy valley such a great looking project, thanks for sharing
@robust horizon looks like JEplayer is 100% python? no native code? that's incredible
The mp3 decoding is in "C", since 5.0.0
but the rest is just circuitpython with displayio and such
oh in regular CircuitPython? fancy
gotcha. so this ties together the basic mp3 playing and image display to make the Pygamer a real MP3 player
nice. And nice to see an actual "app" written in CircuitPython
thanks
starting in a few minutes!
I'll be in and out a bit, but I'll have it loaded π
k, np
Good on Twitch!
good day to all
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
I'm finishing my overhead camera mount, aka the frankenclamp.
Foxhole and SCP:SL
And I'm researching a replacement for my aging 2013 Macbook Pro. Debating going with a mac mini w/ egpu vs macbook pro 16" vs other alternatives.
They won't let Canadians across the border right now anyways (or Americans the other way).
I got into CP wanting to build a robot and got a Crickit. And now I'm trying to push code to the community bundle
Still on the early learning curve for CP. Previous CSharp programmer. LIke the Far Side Cartoon "Mr Olson, can I go home, my brain is full." Looks like I'll have to ditch TurboPascal to pickup CP.
Got into CP at work when my boss wanted a Zigbee network using some Arduino Nanos and Digi XBee modules...never finished that project unfortunately :(
I got confused when you wrote Mr Olson π that's me...
I should've changed my nickname from that, sorry! It's an Aztec goddess
And you can program without the need for hardware at Microsoft's MakeCode: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/makecode
And regarding online learning -- if you thrive under college-style structure, there are some nice free online classes at https://www.edx.org/
I've been doing this too many years and CP is something I'm learning now myself
yeah, let's roll
Go ahead π And to paraphrase Bob Ross: "You can do anything you want. This is your stream." ποΈ
I just got my first pull request accepted! And my fear was I'd break everything, somehow
I think you can cache dependencies with build-ci
yeap, with github's ci
Where it says "uses" now you have ubuntu.
You could have a docker image called "cpy-builder", use ubuntu as a base, and add the packages that are apg-getted in the build script.
(to respond to Mark's suggestion)
@gusty wedge Would you recommend any resources to get started with this process?
[docker is something I hear a lot about, but haven't dived into yet]
@waxen thistle Docker could be a bit large, in the sense that you can use them as a tool to run stuff, or you can develop docker images. What would you like to do?
I'm very comfortable with virtualization. I run my own ESXi hypervisor & vSphere, etc. Maybe using docker to compliment this existing skillset.
The perhaps running openshift (the mini-shift distro is perfect for learning) might be more interesting.
@rapid hornet https://gist.github.com/k0d/09bdeb17f3bc89b4a3676a410328968e Sample docker image that would install the deps
And since there are docker images for everything, an openshift admin mostly consumes previous images. And if you need to change them, you'll see it as part of the creating process and dive in from there.
Would openshift be a good "hello world" project for Docker, or would something else be appropriate?
Openshift would be an infraestructure to run docker images on top. So once mini-shift is installed, I would say, run them all π
Distros, distros with applications installed, groups of docker images working as a cluster, etc.
+1 to alpine.
(or slackware-riscv, but I'm partial to that)
Thank you π
Thanks @rapid hornet for a nice relaxing conclusion to the week

they should be more limited in scope going forwards. any topic suggestions @nova totem ?
I'll think about it. For me learning how github is being used is valuable as I do not have much experience with that. And some of the gotchas when you're dealing with these much smaller processors vs a much more powerful one

Good evening all you wonderful folks!
when it's mentioned, i hear folks do like gitlab's ci/cd.
Is there any feather boards coming with Espressif ESP32-WROOM-32SE? ESP32 with ATECC608 on the same board. For secure IoT...
@atomic spear yah, prolly π
Lol, DigiQuest is a pretty cool name. π
Also digikey has a greate live chat.. multiple times I asked them to find a similar part that I can found on other vendors site only. and they were great
Could also, flip it to "Key Quest"
Thanks for a chill evening stream @open girder !

Thanks for a fun live stream @haughty quiver !
Right on, thanks for coming by @waxen thistle
very interesting video yes 300,000 parts down to 3 parts is a massive time saver world wide- awesome systems in place now days plus we have to remember to read data sheets more often to actually know what we need to find online in the first place to cut down the enormus search clutter
Good morning all you wonderful folks!
Hey y'll. Good morning to you @waxen thistle .
mornin' folks, hope everyone is doing well
I tried repeatedly to print last weeks phone holder. Using Ender3 Pro, CURA (latest) with -0.07 expansion. Gears look clear but the I can't maintain the gap in the slides. π¦
Mornin @hard hollow
How's Pedro 2.0 doin these days?
Awesome! Time to consider where all those tripods are at π
i think a -.18 expansion worked on me @upbeat coral
And we're live on Twitch!
Hmmm when I sliced something over -0.1 it looked like the bottom layer was nearly non existent.
Music is a go π
I will give it a shoy though.
[my speakers were turned up way too loud too...eep haha]
Excellent!
good morning everyone
Mornin' Liz!
Hello good people. π
Good morning
Morning @sage aspen
Are you surprised it's vibrating π All things considered.
The multi-talented @split gazelle π
I really gotta consider trying ninjaflex now that I have dual gear setup on my E3.
haha thanks @lavish patrol
@split gazelle Did you see David Watts' video?
Yeah, they convinced me to try NinjaFlex last year for the first time and it wasn't so bad as long as your printer is direct drive.
@lavish patrol yes, i have a response filmed and currently editing π
I've only tried the soft stuff
@sage aspen I went the dual gear route instead of direct drive. Little worried the E3 having only the one z- drive might not handle the extra weight of moving the extruder to the hotend.
i've had good luck with my prusa using the default FLEX settings in slicer 2.0
3D CAD Files https://a360.co/2ZjEGMp
.5 or -.5?
for retraction .5
@upbeat coral I added a kit from my Ender 3 that adds another Z-threaded rod, but it's still driven by a single motor. That's the one I did ninjaflex printing with.
@sage aspen Yea, I thought about that. I only have the one printer so doing heavy duty (involved) mods make me a little skittish.
Understandable.

Piece of cake to go back to single gear on the extruder if that didn't work out - which it has worked out so far -.
OK, talked me into it. Ordered some Snow White Ninjaflex.

@upbeat coral π
Got a little ahead of myselfe trying the suggestions from Pedro.
That photo of @haughty quiver is out of date. π
Thanks guys.
thanks folks! stay tuned for 3d hangouts show and tell!
Thanks, @hard hollow and @rocky reef π
Very cool project, so neat to hear it all playing now
Great looking and sounding project.
@split gazelle Cool.
I'd love to hear the opening to Rey's theme on that π
great job Liz
thanks everybody!
That'd be a sweet Darth Vader mask π
Got notified yesterday that mine is shipping. Only three weeks to wait. I am original subscriber from across the big pond.
Combat the Coronavirus in style with this Vader face mask. Use the retention clip as a template to cut the filter element of your choice.
Remix of https://engineering.rowan.edu/research-centers/mask/index.html
Does it change color if you have a fever?
I find your lack of PPE disturbing.
Mine. Uses some AC filter media.
Nope, not at all.
now with magnets and make a helmet or necklarse
or with eyes cover of the mask part
mask with magnetic and the other part too so they connect
Later dudes and dudettes
@lavish patrol even a slight amount of facial hair prevents a good seal. Given my full beard, it's a tough choice.
I'm leveraging other PPE along with high quality masks for a layered approach. It's not perfect, but given I'm isolating, I'm rolling the dice as few times as possible.
Thanks @hard hollow and @rocky reef for a fun pair of shows!
@waxen thistle Understood.
I spent a great deal of my working life in a respirator of one kind or another. Didn't get to grow a beard untill I retired.
If I was in a high risk environment or with routine exposure to contaminants, I'd shave it without hesitation.
thanks folks, cya later tonight π
But...like a lot of things, nothing is perfect -- we can take multiple steps to protect ourselves. Good quality masks, face shields, physical distancing, wearing a Darth Vader mask with a real lightsaber [don't ask where I got the Kyber crystal] π
im gonna be doing a complicated live demo, hope it works :p
Fortunately, I'm retired so contact is at a mininum.
@waxen thistle They have PAPRs' these days. It's a hood connected to a filter filters depending upon task and contaminants.
That helps a lot too -- PPE has advanced pretty well
Fortunately for me, I do very little that's chemical or dust, and I can do it outside -- so an N95 (or chemical respirator) outdoors with excellent air circulation is a fair compromise with a beard.
They're forced air and you can use them without a drs order. My old company (3M) required health physical to wear any other kind of respirator, including a dusy mask.
dust
My updated headshot for @lavish patrol
Umm....uh.....well, hmm. That's rather terrifying.
No offense intended JP. You're as dapper as always. lol

Who's a fan of this project?
It's well rounded.
kickback. oh man... ML-powered SawStop?
@lofty mist this is really interesting, going to watch the vids later
We spent THOUSANDS on vibration analysis to detect bearing failure
This is very interesting for sure π
I can think of a few things right off hand where this automatic detection could be super useful
ladyada sets the wheels in motion
Hopefully that wheel is balanced -- and if not, we have an algorithm to determine that!
Wait for it...
Hi.. does anybody know of a supplier that carries a board that has a Relay controller by a PIR sensor ? I know how to wire the two items together... Iβm looking for an all in one solution... preferably in the 3-5 volt logic

@robust horizon not yet..
Lars is a very specific Fuggler.
@split gazelle Ah, he's a good laugh -- one of his schticks was "X is a good name for a rock band." π

There are generalized Sloth Fugglers, but Lars is voiced by actor Matt Biedel for the express purpose of tormenting local Los Angeles soft serve truck impresario Joseph Nicchi of CVT Soft Serve.

@gusty wedge they are targetting 140-180 nm first. currently they hhave an FPGA out.
Who is? I want some.
Order submitted! I'm so glad Adafruit sources quality gear so I don't have to wonder "is this PPE any good?"
24-pin eInk / ePaper Extension Cable 0.5mm Pitch - 25cm Long https://www.adafruit.com/product/4230
I'll start making asm and demoing the chip if I can get a demo.
That is a lovely chunky oled bonnet!
@open girder non-RiscV
same rules apply π
well, true. fair enough. hehe
@gusty wedge they are still in stealth mode, sort of. i let you know when there is something definite
and 32k ram minimum
@fallow fractal Please do. I'm the current slackware-riscv mantainer, plus other things.
Does non planar 3d printing offer advantages for masks?
is there a chip that has more flash space than the m4? can the m4 host a web server with the esp-32 wing... i am looking into building a smart sprinkler system. i also know the raspi is an option
@rapid hornet Can you give more specs about what you would want for a CPU?
Time for Kattni's soothing voice!
@fallow fractal it's not so much the CPU but rather the SoC around it. For circuitpython we need native USB and at 32k minimum RAM but 256k+ would be competitive.
Would USB 1.1 and micro usb-b be fine?
full speed is OK but high speed is better (iMX RT has it). micro usb-b shouldn't be defined by a cpu
well USB C is way different, so it has knock on effects on the SOC
Will there be circuitpython for Grand Central M4?
@nova scroll https://circuitpython.org/board/metro_m4_express/
@fallow fractal no, usb C is just the connector. it's USB version (3) that you are thinking of
@rapid hornet right, sorry, usb-3 is a mess
How did I miss that? I even used the search! Oh, well. Thanks!
@rapid hornet would you want instruction/data caches?
whatever the CPU needs
@fallow fractal The bazaar and the cathedral, by Eric Raymond, is a good book for projects/companies about open source. It has a rule about "release early and release often".
It is a good idea that as soon as stealth is off (.... soon) to open up to the community and show them what you have and ask what devs and board makers need.
I wonder if Kattni does this in one take.
any update on when the adabox will ship?
Not only Lady Ada, but some makers in this community are designing boards live on the web so people can ask and suggest things. That for CPU design would just blow everyone's mind.
Also small chip production runs have a bighish initial investment on masks even on old nodes. How much are you currently rougly paying for your chips and would an open source one need to be cost competetive or could it have some premium?
@fallow fractal I recommend checking prices of the chips we use on Digikey
I'd like to fpga that superscalar stuff and test it for crunching numbers.
@nova hawk soon, we are doing it safe and smart
@fallow fractal A chip designer company from colombia, made a crowdfund to pay for the initial investment. But they didn't got to the goal because the had a small community.
@gusty wedge I feel you, i am pushing for puttings out there but things are complicated. We will use a BSD license for the code.
Do you recall the name?
Thanks @open girder and good night. π
thanks Adafruit and Company! keep up your excellent work!
I was invited to visit (I'm in Costa Rica, not that far) their place in Colombia. That crowfund should help you to get an idea on the money they wanted, the price they offered, how much they got, providers, nm's, etc.
Can you name a low and a high end cpu used in your product so i can see if these cpus are a fit?
Thanks @open girder for another awesome evening of shows -- and a personal thank you for opening up PPE for those in the NYC metro area. It's much needed.
When I talk to them they where nice and answered a bunch of questions, maybe you could write to them.
thanks @atomic pebble
Bye
Bye @open girder, thanks.
thanks for a great set of streams!
Night all - thanks for being part of the show!
Thanks
@abstract shale PyPortal (3 sizes), Hallowing, Monster M4sk, PyGamer, and Grand Central have 8MB flash. Teensy 4.1 has 7MB flash. Arduino has simple web server for ESP32. For CircuitPython, I haven't tried this, but you could take a look: https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CircuitPython_ESP32SPI/blob/master/examples/server/esp32spi_wsgiserver.py

@shell mason What is LearnTV?
Very cool, thanks @shell mason I didn't know they were hosting it there.
Allright, good afternoon all you wonderful folks. I have a therapist on retainer, because...well, Lars. πΉ
5 minutes until @haughty quiver 's workshop!
WooT!
hey there!
hi @haughty quiver !
Good afternoon, @haughty quiver
possible project idea: show countdown timer
Waiting for the Bleeps and Bloops and creepy Lars voices...
There is no "John". There is only Lars.
Lol.
Why you are laughing.
I for one welcome our new Lars overlord
i have never heard of lars before (besides the spoiler from the last show) what is the almighty lars again?
OverLars?
Lars' Workshop and Lars' Show and Tell.
And you better tell, or else.
one of the admins should add a lars emoji
bleeps and bloops are a go on Twitch!
Twitch it is then.
YT is now live too
Firing up the Facebook
I need huge brass handled levers for these streams.
please don't jumpscare us @haughty quiver we are too trusting for that
what do you mean?
My internet is working again so I can watch livestreams!
cool dont think iv made a live workshop before π
jesus
John Lars Workshop
sorry all π€¦ββοΈ me and my big mouth, suggesting the jumpscare
Creepy teddy bear...
if the eyes were LCDs and blinked... or just the lids could blink
*teddy sloth
One doesn't merely turn off Lars.
john park lars overlord workshop
Hey @haughty quiver
@haughty quiver can you show us the link to the virtual faire site?
someone needs to make an animatronics lars π
oh no
@next kayak, you mean https://makerfaire.com ?
yup @cinder wind thanks for the link!
MakeCode Live - 3pm ET Tuesdays

John Park's Workshop - 4pm ET Thursdays
John Park's Show & Tell - 5:30pm ET Thursdays
but i have nothing to show this week i hope lord lars will under stand ( he ses finding a hard hat to put on ) π
hi yall π
Hey @lethal lagoon!
Hi, @lethal lagoon
studying up on livestreaming for this weekend, JP is a pro π
Happy Birthday JP's daughter!
This is a much better project idea then when i tried to make a robot to blow candles out - and almost lit my house on fire
Ok, this is odd.
oh good I didn't miss it all
Happy birthday JP's daughter, my son's birthday was this past weekend
@nova totem I think Simone Gertz would like to speak with you π
Lol.
oh good I didn't miss it all
Welcome Jeff!
@robust horizon π
i have gotten on to discord, tee hee
our daily walk interfered with JP's showtime.
That's a nice MCM.
hello all
@tulip pasture What are your orders, Overlord?
Never underestimate the imagination and creativity of children π
lol
π
the kids are all "make Minecraft talk to Fortnite!"
Mario Maker Code Arcade
@tame geyser i understand
@haughty quiver please never squish me face up to the camera ever again. that was so uncomfortable
bwahahahaha!
That name again, was...
is that what they call laproscopic surgery?
never enough Lars
Appreciate the port location choice, much.
omg Lars π
I smile everytime I hear him talking
I really hope JP doesn't mind we're going on-and-on about Lars, when he put all the hard work into the electronics and creativity into this... π
Perhaps someone could post a discord invite to the YouTube chat
is lars from a movie or something?
there's electronics?
Can we send Lars back to said movie?
it sounds like peter lorre
it did!
or peter lorre inspired π
He is now watching us, and always will be
no, we love him
i really wish you would stop poking me @haughty quiver
make it so, mr.sulu
i'm a little horrified
also, why do you think someone made a lars account? this is my account!

@lavish patrol did you edit that photo?

JOHN PARK'S WORKSHOP LIVE 5/21/20 ItsyBitsy Keyboard @adafruit @johnedgarpark #adafruit
are you thinking of the ventrillouquist puppet @cinder wind
yes!
Lars Trek.
Ok John, how did you set up the Lars puppet to talk on discord?
what do you mean set the puppet up?
@lethal lagoon I thought he sounded like Peter Lorre also.
Nothing to see here, Lars.
he set me on a computer! it was so easy to make it onto discord!
@lavish patrol he had such a distinctive voice π
i'll have to get a better keyboard.....
@haughty quiver maybe you should get a cnc mill, for making custom pcbs.
and a few bones for me, so i can rule the world go get a snack
@lethal lagoon If Lars mentions the Maltese Falcon we'll know..
I'll have to look that up..
i'm not super into this garbage "pop culture" of the humans
And it all fits in the original Keybow case? That's cool!
speaking of a mess of wires
@next kayak another consideration is time. A Trinket starts up in milliseconds. How fast can you make a Pi boot up?
good point.
@next kayak the trinket won't actually have enough GPIOs, the itsy bitsy has several incarnations, this one's $15 and runs circuitpython https://www.adafruit.com/product/3800
What's smaller than a Feather but larger than a Trinket? It's an Adafruit ItsyBitsy M4 Express featuring the Microchip ATSAMD51! Small, powerful, with a ultra fast ATSAMD51 Cortex ...
sorry, i got the boards mixed up, i thought jp was using a trinket. sorry!
he did mention the trinket initially too
if it was a keyboard matrix the trinket might have had enough GPIOs, not sure.
why doesn't jp just open a notepad or sticky note for testing? then he doesn't have to worry about messing up the code
For the demo today it would have meant switching to recording a different window
another good pont
TIL PiMoRoNi
why am i just sitting here on my lazy bum? can jp trust me with the camera control?
seriously? It stands for "Pirate Monkey Robot Ninja"??!? hahahah awesome
lol
How about using a metro m4 or grand Central
The ItsyBitsy M4 has plenty of pins for an 87 keyboard layout
It's a full keyboard
3d printed, circuit python, etc.
yes
or you could use an io extender
going to try to buiild a monome midii keyboard
thank you @haughty quiver
@haughty quiver thank you! @tulip pasture thank you!
That was an awesome JP's Workshop -- thanks π
you're welcome!
Another great show, @haughty quiver
Also sounds like one of the Bad Guys in Big Trouble in Little China
also, thank you @tulip pasture
Thanks @tulip pasture, you puppeteer @haughty quiver very well
@haughty quiver is there enouth space to put some LCD eyes in side lars that react to the mp3s
what do you mean "puppeteer"?
Puppet? What puppet?
the only electronics painstakingly put into my body were to prevent me from speaking my mind!
all i need now is internet connectivity, and i could talk with you whenever i want!
goodbye all, i shall go begin my reign of terror take a nap!
Lars + FONA module = ???
yes plz
Come on by and show! Tell!
Sounds good to me @haughty quiver
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
JOHN PARK'S WORKSHOP LIVE 5/21/20 ItsyBitsy Keyboard @adafruit @johnedgarpark #adafruit
Very nifty!
@cinder wind i love it!
Differences between i2c, SPI, uart? Ok....I'm taking notes.
I'm so glad I caught this part of the show and tell- I'm on my wait out the door.
thanks @last steppe !
& yeah, actually producing eurorack modules for sale is a journey.
I'm always up for collaboration, though. π
Heh, big journey!
That's a good test
Need I2C? Use a BlinkM! (haha just kidding)
"Fly on the wall" is one of many ways of learning π
Thanks @cinder wind & @rapid hornet for sharing -- and thanks @haughty quiver for hosting another fun Show & Tell!
gah why was my upstream so blocky
@cinder wind I blame Lars
hahah totally
shucks, I was doing food prep for dinner and totally missed it
What's on the menu, @robust horizon ?
"Onion Pizza"
ooo, nice
Rye crust, caramelized onions, swiss cheese, fresh herbs
I was literally going to ask "raw or caramelized" onions?
Now are you doing them stovetop or via a pressure cooker? π
I hope the dough works today -- I mashed up our usual rye crust recipe with one of these slow rise, 1 gram of yeast white flour pizza dough recipes
stove top. I don't think I've ever tried the pressure cooker.
yummy!
It's a divisive topic, but lately I favor the "pinch of baking soda" cheat for making the process go faster.
I haven't tried doing them in the Instant Pot yet -- they're not quite the same from what I've read, but as an ingredient in another food item, I think next time I might cheat π
I don't blame you -- they'd take forever otherwise
However, your home will smell delicious for days afterwards π§
speaking of hand-wired keyboards, there are people out there who make it look beautiful and effortless .. not like mine at all. http://www.masterzen.fr/2018/12/16/handwired-keyboard-build-log-part-1/
That looks impressive.
I've been bending the leads about 135 degrees, doing a loop seems even better
for the "across" (rows) I bend the diode legs, where this author has used lengths of black wire...
that is, the leg of one diode is soldered to the next diode, no extra wire
@rapid hornet Live on Twitch π
It says "Waiting for Adafruit Industries"
The title is good for YT though, says your show
Live on YT too
i've dealt with enough professionals to know perfection is not required π
No prob, happy to help
They're shipping pretty fast (if they can) -- I ordered Wednesday night and I'll be getting it tomorrow.
Teal'C: Indeed.
I might not be very interactive -- working on a few other things, but I'm listening along when I can π
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
Wikipedia still uses master/slave - maybe check data sheet from vendor
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IΒ²C
That's a good idea regarding the large anti-static foam mat for breakouts.
very cool way to organize boards !
host/client
Silly question, but if only a few address pins on a board are exposed (I think the Adafruit servo bonnet only has 5) is there a standard for setting the rest? Like, a safe assumption if you're using the raw protocol?
I'm digging Minion, only because of the animated film reference. And also, some days leave me in a nonsensical babbling state.
Well, maybe more than some days π
I like, conceptually, "Minions" because then you can program around that. Start up all the i2c devices? Use the minions(assemble) function
lol
clock is like a heartbeat and each pulse needs to be in sync
Mufasa/Scar π¦
Just something to mention: I2C and other bi-directional protocols are notoriously harder to level-shift than alternatives. So if you're using a 3.3v sensor with a 5v microcontroller, you may encounter trouble.
IDE to SATA is an example
Universal Asynchronous Receive Transmit
ra485
UART's have buffers called FIFO - First In, First Out
CAN is nice, I have used it as most industrial equip uses it
There was a Discord question the other day about whether a TX line can be read-only by multiple devices' RX, perhaps with some kind of isolation or buffering?
Plus UART's can be used over long distances
It's routed!
nice
I did some google sleuthing -- Maleficent / Sniveling Goons [which is what her minions were called].
Wait, thunder? In Seattle?
Finished the board now π Well..will add silkscreen
nice being late to the party. Now I have a massive backlog to watch
create a wish list
Fancy routing
i was just out walking the dog in north seattle and there was definitely thunder
That would be a great way to support local businesses even post-covid -- so many times I find a place that's always been there, but never knew about it.
here its rather cold and cloudy and sort of trying to rain. (north of vancouver)
too many Bruce
I'm coincidentally working on my weather station housing at the moment
The weather station was first got me into IoT, adafruit and all of this
I only know of it by reference --- and woah....ok, removing the above.
@rapid hornet Should I remove the ground planes on my board under the part where the wifi antenna is on the Saola?
i wrote an android app once that used some weather api, then they discontinued it. lucky it was for fun
Two Bruces and two Marks.... we need to diversify
Yeah, I just noticed it was overhanging the main footprint
lol
Call me LegoMark π
Thanks for a relaxing way to end a Thursday π
Mouser still has ESP32-S2 Saola boards, in case anyone is interested. Digikey seems to be sold out.
@drifting arch are all those extra vias on the left just keeping your ground plane together?
@robust horizon they've gone already...I add vias then remove them after routing if the area is too small to need one.
It seems like a good trick, I'll have to remember it
I routed a much simpler board recently and had trouble with my GND falling apart
seems like careful placing of the vias would also inhibit "between pads" routing where it's undesirable
This was a crazy board to route, I'm just starting out, but really love PCB design.
As LadyAda points out, routing PCBs is kind of meditative. I enjoy it myself.
Watching the recording of @rapid hornet's show from this week. Did learned quite a bit about I2C, great stream.
If this thing talked I2C, it would be on topic. It's a lightning detector π https://www.tindie.com/products/smdking/emp-sensor-detect-lightning-and-other-phenomena/
And cool tool "ag", didn't know it and I'm already reading about it.
Oh, and there are antennas based on ground planes. So much that one of the simplest antennas to build at home is a "ground plane antenna".
But that doesn't mean that your answer about removing the ground plane on the pcb is a good idea.

@open girder You're welcome! Hope you enjoy the CD.
the gift of music will be broadcast while i am working on site on sun π
(and the guest artist)
a lot of good music fueled a lot of shipping PPE and more π
I'll bet. I always have music playing, especially when working. When it's off, there's still something playing in my head, though.
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks!
Hadn't considered using MakeCode as a way to generate typed code for learning to extend coding expertise. Excellent. @haughty quiver
I just joined. Oh goodness, Lars is back.
...or did he never leave?
He's been watching us from the beginning.
Thanks!
RSS/Blog post about JP's upcoming makecode live date is incorrect. It can be Tuesday or the 25th but not both.
Oops! It's right now!
Hey -- I'm on the CircuitPython meeting, but I'll load you up as soon as we finish :)
That way, Lars can go back into hiding before I join. Because...nightmares.
turn up vol.

i'm really excited to play around with it
@split gazelle Have one?
@waxen thistle on order π
@waxen thistle you're only limited by the imagination and lenses you have
Well, if you get the tele lens, I'd love to hear what you think of it after you get a chance to play with it π
@upbeat coral Indeed -- I have a few teles here for Nikon that do some macro work, but I've avoided getting a dedicated macro rig mainly due to cost.
If this tiny critter can deliver an acceptable quality, it'll be cost effective AND easy to adapt diy lighting accessories.
awesome @upbeat coral please post photo samples when you can
thanks foks, cya tonight π
Are your lenses C or CS
we got the C mount version
Camera comes with an adapter
You don't need it for the wide angle lens. It's a C mount. The tele lens is CS and you do need it.
ah okay!
Thanks for the info @upbeat coral π·
Off topic - I put new springs on my Ender 3 Pro and recalibrated and set the bed. BUT, now my flat surfaces feel like sandpaper. Any suggestions
Is the stiffer bed maybe causing the nozzle to drag through layer. Using PLA on the stock magnetic bed.
Got a glass bed to try out but wanted to make one mod at a time.
Bottom is fine and walls feel good. It's just the larger flat surface.
Also tried two different filaments - Hatchbox and Solutech.
so its picking up the texture of the bed surface?
oh okay, it might be too close to the bed
i use a .2mm feeler gauge to check the height of the nozzle
and it has a strange pattern. The interior is actually higher than the walls.
On the first few layers
ah yea, might be too close to the bed
or the initial layer height is set too low?
Initial layer (Cura) is set to .2, same as other layers.
I used to set a thiner layer to get it to stick but since I started keeping the bed cleaner, I backed off.
I picked .08 cause that's close to the thickness of a Postit. and everyone seems to use those.
I'll try 0.2 on next print (The cartridge from today). Thanks for feedback. You guys are the best.
Oh well, 0.2 wouldn't stick. Compromised at 0.1. So far so good.
Good evening all you wonderful folks!
Good evenin to you @waxen thistle
good evening everyone
