great show
@open girder Thanks for another evening of awesome shows!
Thanks! Have a great night!
Stay safe everyone, and keep making awesome things!
thank you for a great set of shows!
Another fantastic and awesome Wednesday. Thank you Adafruit.
great show!
thanks @open girder for being awesome and making life fun
Adafruit is well worth supporting. I talk you guys up all the time.
I love the @open girder/Digikey "bromance"
Anyone who makes learning + making fun....and easily accessible....is a winner in my book.
Night all! See ya next week!
I've worked with Boy Scouts, 4H, etc nearly my whole life. It really is true -- you have just 5 minutes of someone's attention. Usually less.
Adafruit's boards like Clue, CPX, CPB, Crickit, etc make electronics easy.
The IR lidar says, they have 1cm accuracy, but they only measured 1cm standard deviations... I may have to put this on the oversized mill and do a proper test on it. 0.001" standard deviations...

Good afternoon all you wonderful Slappy supporters! πΌ
Slap happy!
π
π€
It's a little quiet on the western front
We should lobby for a bleeps and bloops concert 30 min before each show.
hahahha ya
I'm sure Mr Park could create a music robot to do that
Bleepage and bloopage. I'd vote for that. π
bleeps and bloops are a go!
ahhhhhhh
I did create a music robot to do that. It is named @cinder wind
Today's show is just this song on loop for 30 minutes.
Still a better love story than Twil.....err um, nevermind.
"Boing..Boing..Boing"
Lol.
Hey, its @last steppe !
o/ o/
Good vocal sound level today.
π
You'll never be bored with the Jobs Board.
I wonder if I could find a job on the jobs board to make cutting boards so I'm never bored between waking up and getting on my surf board.
Wish YouTube had universal sound level tool. So many videos are super soft, then the next one is LOUD!
At least AdaFruit keeps all their videos in the same range.
I'd pay to just have JP play with video feedback for an hour
@cinder wind the good news is this stream is FREE
ahahaha
It's gonna be a bumpy ride...

Still seems out of sync to me
Audio is ahead of vid on YouTube
Nothing yet. Still desynced.

It's like watching old Japaneese monster movies.

Fixed.

@split gazelle thank you for sharing it π I have a guitar i bought a while ago and sadly never learned to play it properly, but ONE DAY I WILL π

Whoop whoop
Thanks for your service Adafruit!
@hasty chasm i havent solved the physical connecting yet, but i was thinking of 3D printing a jig and assembling around it, since i am planning to model the whole thing in Fusion anyway and go from there to Eagle
Reminds me of a 3-d version of those hexagon light tiles
Now and Pedro, your makinβ cupboard looks bare!
Here's that cool graphing app: https://grafana.com/
yeah cool @lethal lagoon - are you thinking the solder connections would also be the main mechanical support or maybe 3d printing corner brackets or something?
@lethal lagoon i saw this on twitter this week which is why i got to thinking about it π seems they are just using solder https://twitter.com/ElectroPoint4u/status/1236175440525406209
Just take a moment any enjoy this beautiful #PCB_Pyramid https://t.co/lcx1D31xvU

@hasty chasm at first i thought the solder connections would be an cool way to stick the whole thing together, but I'm planning to carry it all day at a convention (whenever we start doing those again) so i think i need to make it a bit more robust
everything will be on there
3d printed brackets would be cool! i love that idea, but will probably reinforce with some kind of glue too
this was the version i made https://blog.oshpark.com/2020/03/06/goodies-for-the-open-hardware-summit/
@cyan holly Other than the sparkfun badge, is there anything else in the bag that's personalized?
@lethal lagoon how about threading it through something solid like PCB connectors with strain relief holes? I've been doing that a lot for hard wearing wearables and it worked like a dream
i get breakages a lot without it
you could do it with the bantam (which I'm assuming you're using for the DIY pcb routing?)
yes! for sure, strain relief holes are a great idea
yep! it's great at drilling holes!
even for neck or arm mounted electronics it's been great
do you have an example of that anywhere @solemn spear ? having trouble picturing. PCB connectors = like pin headers?
loving your recent builds
@hasty chasm like the third pic here https://www.instagram.com/p/B41BsZPnLOj/
ahh i see, neat, thanks!
@solemn spear thanks Helen! And to you, always! Love that embroidery, working or not π

@rapid hornet very intersting
Most of my more critical applications are connected to a usb host, I guess thats why I haven't noticed it before
Ah nice thats good to know!
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks!
Good afternoon @waxen thistle, and all.
The bleeps and bloops are an hour early this week...
Or am I an hour early? π€
The bleeoops have yet to arrive on-scene.
Uh oh, I've already had my fair share of DST confusion!
And there they are!
4pm eastern is typically when he comes on, but the whole daylight savings time throws a monkey wrench into things. I'm sorry, but I'm not bright enough to manually do that math in my head --- google is such a helper with timezones.
Bleepage and bloopage detected.
Hearing something like a kalimba from the Forbidden Planet...nice
nothing yet on Twitch
Nice subtle and relaxing sound levels today:
It's 8:00pm where I am.
@waxen thistle You'll have to wait for about 25 minutes for Twitch. π
It's a bit jittery, @haughty quiver
Agreed, the stream is slightly caffeinated.
Voice sound level is okay, perhaps a bit low
How long before twitchbot tells us. π
Stream seems less twitchy on Twitch.
Sorry late. Was watiching the US Stockmarket and having a breakdown.
Buckaroo reminds me of Buckazoids, the currency of choice in the vintage Sierra game "Space Quest"
Deep breaths, @upbeat coral π
We're all in this together. It'll get worse before it gets better, but it will get better.
Thank you @lavish patrol Innn and one twooo threeee and ouuuuttt
Think of it like this -- now's the time to buy cheap.
@waxen thistle Understood. π
[note: I'm not a financial professional. take that advice with the appropriate grain or kilo of salt.]
Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
Use your new little military button and a slide cam to interact with the CPX
Not just you and the lag is getting worse
Stuttering for me too. Just the video, not the audio.
Happens when he shows video
You can get get away with less than ideal video, not with audio though.
And audio's out of sync.
Yep.
I so want to be left alone in that shop for just 5 minutes.

Good thinking, @cinder wind π€
@haughty quiver There's a 1-2 second audio delay since the Makecode community video.
nope
Nope. Still out of sync.
Hey John! Great project! Is there a way to determine the water level in the container via the Clue/Buckaroo? I wouldn't want the motor to be on when there's no water and the plant is dry.
ah perfect, I didn't realize that pin 2 was also available. Thank you very much!
Thank YOU JP for spending some time with us.
Thanks @haughty quiver!
Hello. I'm your deputy Sherriff. I see you haven't been watering you plants, so I'm going to ask you to come with me. π
Thanks John!
It's Due West er
Thanks @haughty quiver for another awesome show π
Thanks, @haughty quiver
Thanks John "Space Kalimba" Park!
I had that water level issue come up in my own implementation of a self-watering plant system via Arduino. Although my solution was rather bad (sonar sensor pinging a piece of paper on the top of the water). I'm curious that even using pin 2 from the CLUE, would that need to be connected to the side of a container holding water at the "danger zone" level? I'm not even sure what kind of reading one would be looking for π€
you would probably do the opposite -- have a couple of nails in the water with tips near the bottom. when the sensor senses high resistance, warn that water is low/empty.
ah ok, that makes sense
There are also a few Adafruit products that can be used. One is a binary detector you mount through the side of the container and it tells you whether there is water at that level. Also a few different lengths of depth measuring tapes, the resistance varies depending how much is below the water level. In my automated plant design I was going to use the tapes so I could also detect a pending overflow, since the input bucket was fed through a valve from the house water line.

ya, I'm very happy with how it is going. literally woke up and starting watching the keynote on my phone

After the opening, I moved over to the home office seamlessly, and I'm able to get things done while following along. Lunch is in the oven, laundry is going.... While we're on break I'm catching the Microchip livestream on low-power sensor networks.

what commands did you run?
I rm -rf and re did the clone
did you check out the lower_power branch?
what do you mean by errors?
you may need to update submodules. my master branch is old. I never use it
So, this is weird
I got it running
And now after I restart, I go straight to the boot mode
PFFFT.... When I opened the device manager, CIRCUITPY showed up
I got a REPL to show up - not sure what's going on - huge delays on everything
I'm going to switch it back to 5.0.0 and see if it behaves better
Yeah, I'm thinking that build is not perfect
Have you tried it w/an AirLift on it?
This will wait until tomorrow
Thanks, @rapid hornet
ya, no promises on it @pearl shoal. I think I did just fix some tick stuff
I found a problem on my side as well (missed a pin on the Airlift soldering! not sure if it's used
Will test tomorrow at the workshop
will need a bunch of testing. I think my approach is to get everything basically going so when I test things like pulse in I can just swap in the different mcus

im gonna convert it to usb c first

ok addin' USB C from other known-working designs..
don't forget those 5.1k's!

@rapid hornet hey which pins should i use from porta?
Where can we find this datasheet? I see at Microchip there are several versions of the SAMD51, and I want to pull the right one to follow along....
these are the taken ones π
ill remove the QSPI flash... they're right in the center!
all the pins! who needs flash and swd

@fickle umbra alt+t brings twitch into "theater mode", larger window. could be useful
