@smoky patrol Eventually. ๐
Thanks
Lol.
We're experiencing slight technical difficulties with Hangouts. Everyone is hopeful, and we ask for your patience
๐
In the meantime, did everyone see @lethal lagoon on Tested.com last week?

And feel free to check out her new book, "Wearable Tech Projects". You can purchase a print copy, or download a PDF for free.

k lets try it
Press broadcast???
Live, from Seattle....
Is there a show-n-tell tonight?
not sure where the button is
@waxen thistle i was literally saying the same in my head. ๐
as per twitter (other folks complaining) it's down for users, we are getting the same errors
It's like the next level of maker charades...
how do I start it?
I'm thinking of a project...
What are we doing?
@rapid hornet if it does not have a broadcast button then you cannot
Scott might rebrand the show as "CircuitPython and Tell" ๐
ah, just on the video page?
events page for the hangout creator
where might I find the video page?
the vid page would not have it (that's for users)
@open girder we tried launching the hangout from youtube dashboard and errored out as well. no dice

Thanks for the shoutout @lavish patrol and @waxen thistle ! Iโm at Joannโs but running back home for AAE
Perhaps Ask an Engineer will be working?
I actually have a question for you when you get back -- what make/model of mini fabric iron do you prefer? I see them in Hobby Lobby, but they look flimsy at best....
@smoky patrol it should. it's done through a different system
Is YouTube the only video platform? It seems to be there used to be other options...
for show and tell yes
Thanks. That is what I thought but was just checking
What about AaE?
AAE is done through wirecast and restream.io which goes out to a bunch of places
So we get, what, 5 seconds each to demo?
for AAE we have facebook, twitch, youtube
@noble grove Vimeo's still alive. Then there's Twitch...
today hangouts is down it seems for users who can broadcast
we do have #show-and-tell for times like this
@open girder @rapid hornet Thanks for trying. ๐
not a bad run, this is maybe the 2nd time in almost 10 years hangouts has been down
I am disappoint.
just means my demo will be better next time. ๐
Hangouts wont be a thing at some point, it might be worth investigating an alternative soon ๐
yup, we just need more of a heads up
Live demo gremlins
I was hoping discord would do a public video chat like the audio
@rapid hornet I think they're working on it, from what I've heard. But as to when, who knows...
nice! that'd be epic
if hangouts does this again, we have tons of options folks, do not worry about that ๐
Is there any way to broadcast it on Twitch?
@eternal schooner not in the same way as hangouts works, but we could make it work
BRB. I'm off to watch Destin mix some paints.
Andy, I just watched that... it's pretty awesome.
as I said in youtube, now is a great time to upgrade your circuitpython projects to 4.0.1 ๐

Those heat shrink tubes are hot.
Not too hot! Otherwise they'll be smokin'
Are they shrink wrapped?
The color heat-shrink tubing is nice, too.
I saw red when I got my colored tubing...
@pine marten that is so cool, keyboard graphic is a nice touch!!
brilliant!
very clever!
This is the key to how to do this stuff...
I'll take notes.
I'll need a rest.

@inner spade Yes, I picked up a pack of 5 colours in various sizes quite a while ago.
Dithering is just a glissando for images.
Which microcontroller can be used with MakeCode Arcade ?

@haughty quiver Thanks for another awesome show!
Thanks @haughty quiver ! Great show today!
Thanks, @haughty quiver

cool stuff
great stream @pine marten !
I'm loving the pygamer stuff. Mine arrived today. I'll be looking at using circuitpython, though.
is there a feather wing that can play music kind of like the pygamer does ?
terrific @odd stream can't wait to see what you make with it!

There's always the Wayne Newton pronunciation.
@young adder that's an excellent question -- I don't know if you can get the Feather M4 sound stuff working in MakeCode Arcade yet. But you'd need an amplifier added on to hear it.
Maybe w the Prop-Maker FeatherWing.
I'll have a look at that. I want to build some game stuff that will use a giant screen make of NeoPixels, but that game will need music !
and sounds.
I bet Jon had great stream

Hi @slow spire
That was interesting seeing a RasPi operating as an Android Auto head unit.

Kodak disc film, out of it's cartridge.
The sound effects from that remind me of Commander Keen.

It was truly horrible film - very high noise due to the tiny image size

It's very approachable, isn't it?
Question for later: Now is the Sparkfun SAMD51 different from the M4 Feather Express?
That's wicked cool.
The Sparkfun model isn't an Express โ sans QSPI flash that's on the M4 Express.
@pearl shoal at a glance I can tell it has a Qwiic connector on it.
You can have your cake and eat it too! Just don't eat your actual CPX.
It's pronounced Jwiic.
Yeah, just fixed it. ๐
Ahh thanks @pearl shoal and @waxen thistle Iโm so glad someone is actually reading it hehe ๐
And Adafruit sells Qwiic cables, now.

I've said this on Twitter, but I'll repeat it here... the files on Arduino is HUGE for AT
An Arduino that shows up like a disk drive - link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bWba0PU4-g
here's something you've never seen before - an arduino board that shows up as a disk drive, so you can drag and drop files that are stored on SD or SPI Flash...
I've been dragging Arduino UF2 files on/off the Feather M0 Express for a while now. But yeah.
@pearl shoal we could use some helping encouraging arduino to add this
I (now) LOVE CP, but there are times when it's not fast enough, a device isn't supported, or there's just existing code to do something in Arduino. This lets me send someone a device and the end user can edit a config file & restart.
They don't have to install the IDE, board manager, etc. etc.
Yep yep
100% @pearl shoal
And if I need to send an update, I can send a UF2 file and some reasonable instructions
I will make them a friendly video about this tomorrow when I'm back on brand & my setup works ๐
This might be really cool for like the Arduboy
Pro-AT tip, @slow spire - Don't ๐ Our users don't even need the step of "open the compressed folder and click extract"... seriously... very often the person doing this work is 100% non technical caregiver (or para-professional who's trying to help)
Yeah, I thought about that. It is an extra step.
Super cool! nice job
I'm dealing with executives, so I should probably rethink my tip. ๐
Hear, hear. <-- Ardunio Disk Drive
Aww, Digi-Key!
@trim mountain would be the best person to make that video for @arduino - perhaps we'll work together on one.
I've been following Nemesis on Twitter for some time, her security-focused work is awesome. And yes, her name really is Nemesis!
@pearl shoal check the arduino developer list too, we asked about uf2 support (and this disk access) wi think if we can show how/why this is good for users they'll consider adding it

My least favorite connector is USB Mini B.
Especially when I get a newish board that uses it. I'm like, why?!
i agree
I have a set of wireless headphones that use it. Same for WiiU Pro controller and PS3 controller. Those are the ONLY devices that need it.

The paddle is called a "Vaus", and in the original Arkanoid, the enemy causing all this trouble is named "Doh".
I remember doing a homebrew breakout game from scratch on the NDS in C++.
NDS...nintendo DS?
Yes
.....just learned you could make games in C++ for the DS. Today has been an awesome day, just learned something totally new ๐
It handled hitting with the corner of the paddle, as well as velocity transfer from the paddle to the ball.
Yeah, you need some homebrewing hardware (at least when I was playing with it)
R4 card? Or something more specific?
Bleeps and bloops.
nice and square
Hip to be square.

I wonder if we can find an original Arkanoid arcade trackball
I stand corrected, it looks like a rotary encoder!
That should be easy to implement
Too bad those coupon codes are not usable on DigiKey ๐
I think it was a game like Centipede that had the trackball
ordering from Adafruit costs me more in shipping than the products themselves !
rotary encoders are in stock ๐

Centipede had a trackball.

thanks @haughty quiver !
Oooh, I love that.
Seems overkill for breakout since your movement is 2d... but the interia might make it harder, different.
I can see the screen burn-in from here.
thanks!
I really want a nice, smooth, weighted rotary encoder knob like that!
looks on ebay for legit arkanoid hardware
The control looks like a slotted quadrature interrupter:
I remember Tempest had a weithted rotary encoder. That was one of my favourite games.
Yes, same here @odd stream !
Here's a sold listing -- gives you an idea of what to expect...
@odd stream there's a nicely maintained one at the local arcade Neon Retro in Pasadena. http://neonretroarcade.com/
Neon Retro Arcade (in Pasadena and Northridge) features over 40 classic arcade games and pinball machines. Visit us for an awesome journey back to the 80s & 90s.
Would be fun to machine a weighted rotary encoder - really heavy
Never played Tempest, but wow....that looks so much fun. A real throwback.
https://stopxwhispering.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/game-masters-arcade-tempest.jpg?w=742
It's a neat game. The control is crutial: heavy rotary encoder with tons of intertia. Great for those panic moments when you can give it a good spin and spam the fire button.
If you are ever in Mesa, AZ, these guys have several pinball machines and video games from the 80's. https://www.starfightersarcade.com/
great stream John
@odd stream I got an error when accessing the bitbucket link you gave earlier....I'm not very familiar with bitbucket, but my guess is permissions? My username there is mrcertainly
@waxen thistle Doah.. it was private. Try again.
Still the same. I'll give it a minute.
Woo hoo, got it! thanks @odd stream !
I have an ancient R4 card and a DS lite that still surprisingly holds a charge. I'll have to give it a go.....I really loved the DS lite handheld, such a great little system.
@waxen thistle I've started converting some DS lites to Game Boy Macros, it's very fun and satisfying with a great result -- a dedicated Game Boy Advance with a big backlit screen for a $15 used lite and a 330 ohm resistor!
