Kapton tape is a handy way to hold things together -- non conductive, heat resistant, and no residue
Hello World! Chicago here... Just came from Show and Tell. Incredible projects this week.
Yeah, the other day, i needed a 9v for a landline callerID box. I was thinking....who still uses 9v anymore?!? The only thing I have that needs 9v is a smoke detector --- even my carbon monoxide alarm uses AAs + AC power.
So Harbor Freight multimeters are great as a cheap meter, and even better as a source of cheap batteries. I wouldn't trust it in a smoke detector though, but for a hobby project....rock on Garth 😃

That Top Secret stuff is pretty awesome. 👍
Will Adafruit ever make a cheaper version of the pyportal without the screen and have a HDMI out. Also how did you guys make that phone for the giveaways?
the NeoPixels will make great "You Died" responses for games.
I've read rumors that Adafruit colluded with Digikey on the new Adabox, is this true??
What happens with Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right A B ?
next batch of pyportals?
Are there any plans for a red Charlieplex Bonnet?
@glad mortar Hmm.. that would be cool
Is there a way to play other formats other than WAV in CPY?
@odd stream absolutely :)
there is not even an Arduino lib yet, would be great to have it more accessible
Does Digikey make some of the PyPortal boards? I have one that has "Adafruit" the other has "Digikey".
The nRF52840 is out of stock, Any heads up on some new ones anytime soon?
when can i ask a support question for a product i have?
@median dove Now.

Hello welcome
"Hello effiksmusic, welcome!"
For some reason, my playlist switched to Herb Alpert after seeing JP's first Discord message today.
Herp Alpert? Now there's a name I haven't heard for a long time...
Hey I just finally realized my computer clock was wrong and my metro mini w RTC module was right because my computer wasn't set to automatically update to a time server.
Lemme run down to Tijuana and find my brass.

Six astronauts, but not enough spacesuits.
where's my freeze dried ice cream?
They're onboard the cloaked Gou'ald cargo ship....wait, oops.

JP: Is there any other place astronauts could be?
Daniel Jackson: Well, we have a number of....shuttles.
Bra'tac: These "shuttles", they are a formidable craft?
...spoiler!
Lol.
What about those on the dark side of the moon?
Not so dark there actually. 😛
@dense marlin Shhh. 😉
@haughty quiver Thanks for an awesome show!
Thanks!
great show!
A matter of fact it's all dark.
Thanks again.
Right on, thank you all.
Thanks @haughty quiver . Appreciate the opportunity to learn more about PyPortal programming!
@haughty quiver 👍
How do I send email to Adafruit support? What’s their email@address?
I have a problem with a product I just purchased and there is no solution! It’s been a week I’m stuck on this
No I haven’t
@median dove Like @signal latch mentioned, you can ask your question to Adafruit Support at support@adafruit.com .
Additionally, you can ask your question in any of the #help-with channels, and on the adafruit forms at https://forums.adafruit.com/
@waxen thistle I did all of the above today hopefully someone will help@me find a solution! Thanks
Please be aware that the #help-with channels are almost entirely community members like yourself, so response time and technical depth may vary.
For a more official response, the forums or emailing is the best way to go.
Excuse me. Is there a proper place and template for bug reporting? I believe there is a bug in the code supporting Box11 PyPortal.
Yes, you can submit bug reports at https://github.com/adafruit/circuitpython/issues
Thank you
You're welcome

Question: Can I use CircuitPython on Feather M0 Bluefruit (non-Express)? With BLE support?
(I see support for the Feather M0 Basic).
@slow spire pretty sure that's a "no". the build uses the Feather M0 Basic firmware, and i don't think the BLE library can talk to it. but i could be very very wrong.

Just proposing an alternative pronunciation, but I like Scott's reasoning.

by higher level abstractions I mean iterators and stuff
Question: Is there library support for partial (less blinky) updates on the monochrome ePaper display(s)?
Is there a circuit python library for the nrf52 than can interface with the pyportal in a similar way that the esp32 does?
If you use these flexible e-ink displays, your content will never be bent out of shape.
Is the Adabox 11 bonus 1 Year IO+ pass supposed to be in the box? Or is it just going to be automatically added to my adafruit account?
@viral zenith yup, a card was included, if it was not (double check the packaging) email support@adafruit.com
Question: Hi, I have a 3D Resin Printer and I want to print my own Breadboards, where oh where can I find the "Rails" that go inside the Breadboard? I have looked everywhere online for them and cannot find them, I'm not sure what they are actually called.
Thank you for the answer. after double checking multiple time I did not find it in the box.
What does Adafruit use to get its quotes in your websites footer, bc I would like to do the same for my website.

Can you dim the piportal?
Mine was about whether the Feather M0 Bluefruit is support by CP
(the non-express one)
KiCads
Will the piportal ever go back in stock?
Thanks. Needed hardware UART.
will neopixels switch to the WS2813 ?
@slow spire it uses the M0 adalogger build of CP -- for access to pin D8
supposed to be the next gen..
Correction, can you dim a piportal screen?
Thanks, @fading meadow !
@bronze gazelle are you using circuitpython?
btw, @proper trench, I love the Blinka shirt.
I'd love a Blinka hoodie! (with or without zipper).
Me too
Congrats Sam from OH!!!
Congrats Sam
oh wow @muted mesa said here faster than i heard from stream
Sam from Ohio 👍
Yes, circuitpython @rapid hornet
@shell mason 😆 i'm usually behind everyone too.
you can do board.DISPLAY.brightness = 0.5
An IO in Ohio...
Thanks everyone! Have a wonderful night!
Thank you everyone
Thanks @open girder for another wonderful evening of shows!
@muted mesa well youtube have working not great
@rapid hornet thank you
PyPortalz 4 lyfe
Does the retail (non-subscription) ADABOX 011 come with the 1 year of Adafruit IO+?
Thanks @open girder
THANK YOU! @open girder. your drive to create and maintain this community, and all the video/chat/etc that goes with it, is much appreciated.
Thanks @open girder and everyone for another great show. Thanks and good night. 🌑
Bye
Night
Night all. 😃
Good night
Night all!
thanks folks
catching up on tonight's shows, good stuff as always 😃
Doing well @lethal lagoon ?
Hi @waxen thistle yes, my mom was in the hospital for a couple of days but she's back at home now and we are all recovering from the stress today 😃
i didn't get home from the hospital until very late last night so kind of off my schedule today, but catching up on AAE and Show and Tell always cheers me up!
Hi @lethal lagoon. Glad to hear. I saw your post on Twitter about the mini-stroke.
@sage aspen hi Melissa! yes, it was scary, and now we're all nervous like will it happen again, but at least we know what to look for now and she's on meds
That's good at least.
yep, so i just took it easy today and tinkered with my pyportal
not sure what i want to do with it yet
That's always a good use of time. 😃
@sage aspen right? adabox showed up right when i needed it!
Good timing. Mine just showed up yesterday.
ooh whatcha gonna do with it you think?
I'm not sure. I already had one PyPortal and now I have two. I'll probably do different projects on each of them.
ah cool
i haven't done a touch screen project before so i'm pretty interested in designing something for that
Yeah, I started working on a calculator, but had a bunch of things come up. I think I probably got enough of those things finished now to continue though.
i like your calculator projects! i have a little wacky calculator collection myself, have never hacked or built one though, you're totally inspiring me to tinker with them one day 😃
Thanks. I had been thinking about putting a board running CircuitPython into a TI Graphing Calc and replacing the screen with something like an ILI9341, so it would be similar to my raspberry pi calc, but running pure CP.
That is, if I ever get around to that. It's way on the back burner at the moment.
Well, I need to go 💤. Have a good night.
sounds awesome 😃 okies, thanks for hanging out! goodnight
@lethal lagoon Sorry to hear about your mother. I hope things improve for her.
Sorry I missed you last night, got distracted by life and it was an hour later before I saw your quick response :P
I'm in a similar boat as MakerMelissa -- I have a few of these awesome PyPortals kicking around, and debating what to use them for...
@waxen thistle today's show will give you some new direction for PyPortal projects involving image streaming if you're interested.
@haughty quiver One of the things I've been thinking about building was inspired by you -- or should I say, an alarm system to prevent another episode of JP's Workshop Charades 😛
I don't know how your current system is implemented, but the PyPortal + AdafruitIO seems like a perfect fit.
😆
Tunes!
Hellooooo! 😄
Spacey. Audio levels good!
Hello all!
Hello all!
Hi
Another sample source of my name … Thanks!
as in Nebula?
HorseHead Nebula
Is that dichroic plastic?
I was going to mention that as well @odd stream
@haughty quiver nice shirt.
John just mention the signal is "Active Low". We use to put a line above the signal to indicate that. Can Make Code do that somehow I wonder.
Globular Cluster
Good afternoon all you wonderful people!
Afternoon, @waxen thistle
So it seems like Mr. Park's head is among the stars today.
Random Puppy Generator - enjoy a new doggy picture at each page load. Lots of cute puppy pictures.
I wonder how the PyPortal compares to the entire processing power of NASA in 1969....
Given that the date is embedded in the path, I guess you could set it up to retrieve legacy images.
M13 I took in 2013
there is https://images.nasa.gov
{{ngMeta.description}}
for that api is images-api.nasa.gov
@JP: You can always regenerate a new API Key over on the Adafruit IO site 😃
hey check this https://images-api.nasa.gov/search?q=horsehead
that get you a json collection
Thanks @haughty quiver ! The next step for advancing PyPortal projects.
@haughty quiver Thanks for another awesome show!
thanks JP
and with that search it found you HORSEHEAD images from Nasa gallery
thanks so much all
@haughty quiver 👍 😃
CircuitPython....navigating you to Rigel VII and beyond.
so @haughty quiver could make a slideshow of horsehead pics
Awesome project @haughty quiver. The PyPortal is such a nice board.
just cycle the horsehead collection json
thanks @odd stream it really is a heck of a great board!
@haughty quiver thanks for the show
you're welcome @dense marlin thanks for coming by
Having lots of fun with my pyportal. Now I would like to see the I2C and its two I/Os used for getting sensor data.
Great idea for some projects @heavy siren
@gaunt plume has started doing some like that, check out his IoT scale project for coffee pourover brewing
I'm going to monitor the level of my sump pump well with it and put the data in Adafruit IO
excellent
I know @inner spade also has some data collection projects in place with other hardware
MANY I2C sensors at ONCE, all going to Adafruit IO
Ah, yes, the weather station, awesome!
lotsa data - stretching the limits of what's possible as far as inputs, but outputs/actuators are also supported!
Yes. It's time to replace the ancient (4 yr-old) wireless remote workshop corrosion monitor with something CircuitPython-based. I've started the project twice only to have Adafruit release a more better platform. I'll be moving the code to PyPortal unless something else emerges from the Adafruit vault.
You'll just need to upgrade to @cinder wind 's CircuitPerl board at some point :)
Egad! Will have to disconnect from the Internet so some of these projects can be completed! 😉
LOL, run!
https://milonetech.com/products/standard-etape-assembly This looks like just what I need for my PyPortal Sump Pump Well Monitor.
Voltage Divider Interface, Protected, but not cheap.
0-5V, 4-20mA, perfect...
I'm just lurking
Me too
same
@heavy siren I also use a PowerState Tail to track when the pumps turn on & off, etc. (That's saved my butt a couple of times, e.g., when out of town and on continuously 99% chance means a stuck switch.)

@rocky reef It's still showing the "Show and Tell" in youtube, at least for me.
I don't know if any broadcaster magic needs to be done -- or when you do go live, we all might just need to refresh 😃
@waxen thistle ah might need to refresh – i just updated the title and description
i think it's how s&t is scheduled
Still showing S&T for me....but I'll refresh as we progress. If anyone has issues with it autostarting, y'all might need to flex that F5 muscle. 😃
fixed now
Yep! I refreshed and now have bleeps and bloops!
Also, good morning all you wonderful people!
good morning folks!

There be gremlins in live streaming

This week’s #3DPrinting project on Adafruit Learning System
https://learn.adafruit.com/propmaker-keyblade/
[I'm hearing a mild reverb in the audio from Noe's mic. Might just be an sound reflection in the room, it's very subtle.]
power of keyblade
Adafruit 3D CAD files available on https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CAD_Parts
I think that made a difference, @rocky reef --- I do hear a bit of a sound reflection, but the reverb lessened.
could have been my mic
Oooo, we're getting the stadium effect from you Pedro when you talk. 😦
Gremlins 😃 The joys of doing a live broadcast.
It's an awesome project, and the fact that it can be done with just a dual extruder is pretty slick.
Reverb 😦
Though, if you two ever became Baseball Stadium announcers...
There's one differenc e between when you tested and now. Now there's an audience, it's live, and reality flies out the window!
But sounds clear now - no more echo/reverb
It's ok @hard hollow --- but just to be safe, bolt that table to the floor 😛
That's neat! Minor mods to make it into Cthulu for Halloween season?
Every season is Halloween 😃
True, true.
Noe and Pedro, 3D printing aqua-mages.
nice trick
Seriouslyt loving that. Gonna need to make better friends - ones with 3D printers
Octocon thing
Oh man, I bet my son would LOVE that garbage truck as a pencil sharpener
yes, lots of fun
woah, stadium
If you spoke loudly, there was an echo
@hard hollow and @rocky reef Thanks for another awesome show!
Moving Stars and Octocons
Not to mention, get a S&T badge/sticker!
thanks for hanging out folks!
I missed it 🤦
Good afternoon all.

Lol.
too funny
😁
Giraffe!
Cool projects everybody.
thanks for sharing everyone!!
good times...thanks all y'all
Good stuff!
that Giraffe was crazy cool
Giraffe documentation: https://workspace.circuitmaker.com/Projects/Details/Harry-Johnson/Giraffe-Pin
CircuitMaker is the best free PCB design software by Altium for Open Source Hardware Designers, Hackers, Makers, Students and Hobbyists.
What I couldn't make clear in the demo is that it has an RGB LED eye and a 6DOF IMU
so I had a quick demo where it would change eye color based on orientation
Loving seeing all the different PCB designs coming out.
Super cool @cosmic abyss , I also like to challenge myself with design density 😄
Not quite that small though
Love the promo code this week.
Macrofab is willing to do some crazy things if you talk with them about it, and are willing to spend the money
good to see you @cosmic abyss ! btw!
@cosmic abyss love the clear solder mask and macrofab
@open girder Thanks! It's great to be back. I'm on vacation so I can actually be here.
It's actually yellow soldermask!
I was hoping for brown silkscreen
but they didn't have it
hiiiiiiiii

Yes, it is.
we were space inspired 😃
ehtblackhole could also be a discount code today
also we're nearly out of solid colors 😃
It's all about space.
But we don't have pennies anymore in Canada.
washers work 😃
And out pennies are a different size.
oooooooooooooooooooooh IOPlus
our
Good thing I had a jar of pennies sitting in a closet.
everyone has a jar of pennies
That's quite a bargain
now you have a good reason 😄

Chef Park is in the workshop kitchen.
evening y'all!
hey stellz
The most amazing thing about this is the lack of fingerprints on JP's case.
Evening @velvet beacon
hiya!!
Hey @velvet beacon 😃
@clear matrix After @haughty quiver did the Spy-themed Adabox, he had to remove his fingerprints as part of the secret agent program. Oops, was I not supposed to share that?
say hi to @velvet beacon everyone... stella is our CFO and our accountant said how great our finances and taxes were this year complimenting stella specifically - THAT IS HIGH PRAISE
(our taxes are done)
Hello!
dawwww @open girder thank ya!
(Resisting the temptation to make a "Streetcar Named Desire" reference)
@velvet beacon is the best!
@velvet beacon I guess you've heard it all before...
@lavish patrol all good 😃 don't mind at all!
Hi. Is there a way to load Arduino Code to the PyPortal to go on Adafruit IO? It seems to need WiFI Nina .. ? Maybe? Can’t get it to work ?
Ohhhhh 😃
its much harder than python because you dont have json decoding and requests library
but check the WebClient example
Awesome thanks !! This is “Sam from Ohio” I was the caller last week.. so I am excited to get my home automation working with PyPortal 😃
other than that its the same as our other Arduino AdafruitIO
sweet!
we do think its easier to use Python, and we have a few Adafruit IO projects but you can do whatever you like 😃
Live-ness confirmed!
Hi Late to the party but glad I was able to make it. 😀
welcome!
hiya @viral zenith !
Hi @proper trench @velvet beacon and everyone else 👋
@inner spade 👍
"Ahhhh. It's a snake! ..... badger, badger, badger"
Lol.
🍄
it was such a classic...
🍌 ☎
The adabox is a great value 😄
It's always been a great value, but this one knocks the socks off -- with the AdafruitIO card.
I think adafruit hardware is worth is for the software support alone
😃 this was my favorite to make projects with
@clear matrix 👍
GOOD VALUES AND DEALS AT ADAMART
😃
its been really hard to do IoT projects that are simple like this, so we got to architect something that let me do projects in 30 minutes or less
@proper trench Having all of this in one unit makes my life so much easier.
My breadboards and jumper wires are going to get lonely if this keeps up.
i should get one, and just keep adabot Travis cron status... 😄
"modular" projects are great
@muted mesa adabot status would be cool 😄
im sure its easy to get
we have shields.io working
ahh! wasn't sure if Azure was happening behind-the-scenes. good deal @open girder!
good work @haughty quiver
Does anyone think its possible to have the PyPortal show the messages of this chat channel?
you could - discord has APIs
@muted mesa that too
Also, it's a pretty usb cable too. I plan on using it at work -- so many black or white cables. Nothing wrong with jazzing it up with some color 😃
Gus - we haven't done it but you could do it!
we have a project showing # of discord people online
there are many guides on using the discord api with python 😄
hii
@viral zenith you could it's a little tricky since it's real-time, but getting the data to a JSON like format, etc.
yep could easily make a button launcher, we didn't get to that project 😃
Hi all
Hello @sage aspen
@viral zenith i haz a link for ya: https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/212889058-Discord-s-Official-API
Thanks @haughty quiver
@haughty quiver Thanks for an awesome unboxing show -- all your work on projects, makecode minutes, stuff on discord and twitter is very much appreciated 😃
great work @haughty quiver
Thanks @muted mesa
I heard some folks were having problems with the ribbon cable, How do you check it?
👋
Nice job @haughty quiver
Great job, @haughty quiver!
@urban flower it can come loose in shipping but its very easy to fix
Great unboxing!
👏
@haughty quiver Thanks! 👍
Thanks John
THANKS JOHN
@haughty quiver another very fine presentation thanks
@viral zenith just be sure to follow the ToS and rules. you have to use an authenticated bot account; can't use a personal account.
not sure how the lock mechanism works
BEST BOX BEST STREAM BEST PARK
woot!
@urban flower its just a nub you push in
...and what @proper trench said
use any pair of pliers.
👏 @haughty quiver
any more live shows tonight?
Ok thanks
Great job @haughty quiver
It's so natural for John to do these streams -- you could say it's just a walk in the park for him.
Fantastic!
@waxen thistle so much groan!
lol @waxen thistle
😛
I’m still lost with the Adafruit IO on the PyPortal using Arduino ... do you plan to edit an example sketch / example “digital out”. I can reach out to the support forums ?
You guys probably didn't see me a few weeks ago but I was standing out on the corner by Starbucks waiving at you all. 😃
This PyPortal is quite a product. I really think its got the chance to go places. A product with this much potential can't help but succeed..
Im working on grabbing USGS stream flow data for my rafting co. Love the AdaBox!!
que, awesome!
@paper schooner that's it for live straems
@dawn orbit Yeah, we saw you on Google Streetview...
@warm geyser That's awesome. I bet when they were designing the PyPortal, they never once thought it'd be used for that -- and that's so awesome!
@echo canopy post on the adafruitio forums, brent can take a look later this week
doh,, 😃
gonna miss the new new new song tonight
Awesome .. thanks
sam, we wcan write up something to get you started 😃
great show adafruit team
@haughty quiver 's MakeCode Minute had 2mins 24sec of intervals to be counted!
