Sounds like quotes from an old folks home ca. 2030
And now we have MakeCode.
Punchcards and punched tape.
@eager sapphire 2020...
The first rule of punch cards is always number your cards
Too soon, Andy
@cunning meteor Yep.
@heavy siren You predate me on all three of those ways (cards, fortran, and the year). I've done Fortran, but after I'm been programming for a while.
I didn't know robots ate pizza
Actually my first program was a Lotus 123 macro.
@odd stream Hello Dave, Yeah, I'm a dinosour. That's for sure...
โฑ ๐ฎ @haughty quiver 's MakeCode Minute was 2min 22sec of sprite & projectile collisions! PEW PEW! ๐ฎ โฑ
My picture you see does me lots and lots of justice. ๐
@heavy siren Just remember that some dinosaurs grew wings and learned to soar.
PyCon 2019 Call for Volunteers! https://blog.adafruit.com/2019/03/08/pycon-2019-call-for-volunteers-pycon2019-pycon-adafruit-digikey-circuitpython/
@odd stream Your soooo right. I told those Mainframe and Mini guys that their days were numbered as they teased me about my little micro systems. This was back when the Z80 was tops dog.
woo. better than the ones last year!
@heavy siren Yes, that and the 6502 were my jam.
The PyCon 2019 conference, which will take place in Cleveland, is the largest annual gathering for the community using and developing the open-source Python programming language.
Thank you digikey & microchip & adafruit for the giveaway ๐
@waxen thistle Congrats ๐
CircuitPython Organization
@rapid hornet, if I want to help out with the mentored sprints do I need to sign up somewhere?
@odd stream I'll tell ya what though, I'm getting hooked on the feather system.
tracktor beemz
Space barges are a thing, right!? I'm with ladyada on this one... ๐
In space because you've deployed something.
@sage aspen I don't know exactly I can ask nina
Ok, cool
I don't think they'll be strict about it if folks want to help
@muted mesa The original "use" of a Corellian YT-1300 was as a cargo hauler....
Ok, thanks. I went to that volunteers page, but couldn't find anything about the mentored sprints on there.
๐ต
@sage aspen It's part of a different program, not the normal volunteering I think.
It's part of the Hatchery.
I volunteered for registration
mr. wing would be proud
I have very little programming knowledge so I'm not sure which programming language I should study to understand circuitpython, any suggestions?
Man... I need to watch that movie again.. been years & years
@odd stream I was thinking the same thing....
Probably not since I saw it either in the theatre or when it came out on VHS.
Thanks @clear matrix. That pointed me in the right direction.
You're welcome!
For those are younger, VHS is an older method to view videos where movies were encoded to a magnetic tape. Be kind, rewind ๐
@next compass You can start with CircuitPython. It is the same as Python. https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-circuitpython
That new uPython board looks sweet
Do kids even know what dvds are?
DV what? ๐
@next compass a great starter board is the CircuitPlayground Express -- https://www.adafruit.com/product/3333
Circuit Playground Express is the next step towards a perfect introduction to electronics and programming. We've taken the original Circuit Playground Classic and made it even better! ...
ARRR!!!!
Me hearties!
R? Pirates doing statistical analysis?
Python is more nonsense and confusing than JavaScript
What is the next NEXT?
It's refreshing to hear that "30 years old isn't old at all!"....when being heard by my 30-some-odd-year-old ears ๐
I first ran into the web in '91
Do the maths. ๐
Mosiac on Solaris

Sold out quickly this morning, hopefully will restock soon ๐
Q: What would be a good board/setup to: every so often (~4 hours say) 1) turn on some lighting (dark space), 2) take a photo, 3) upload to a hosted service (Azure)?
What PCB maker does adafruit use, and do you guys have a discount code for them? Is there a RGB version of the Charlie? Also happy Pi day everyone!
@autumn turret generally easiest setup for relatively low cost? Raspberry Pi Zero W w/ a cheap stock RPI camera
The question we want answered is when will our portals be in stock!!!!
I want to learn to code where do I start?
@autumn turret you can get some pretty cheap cameras for the RPI that have IR-cut filters and come with (small) IR LEDs to help in the dark, too
Awesome, thanks! That's what I thought, but in case I was missing an @open girder powered solution. Or something that could work easily with a RTC
Q: Can a Adafruit CharliePlex LED Matrix Bonnet be used with your lower cost boards, instead of feather boards? Like a Trinket or protrinket?
Why not a Particle product for the lights on/camera shot/upload...???
@autumn turret AdaFruit definitely has most, if not all, of the parts you'd need. the RPI Zero W is only $10! ๐
A Particle Electron would work as well.
I'll check into that, @heavy siren
Can I order qty 20 pyportals and prepay and wait?
Thanks! And also, any relation to the band, @heavy siren ?
I think it's limited to 2 per person
K, thanks
?? Can we have more desk of Lady Ada please?
When will the grand central be back in stock?
@autumn turret No, Just from the north and respect the Pike as an ancient art of war weapon.
Or, I'm a fish-on-line!!!
(646) 248-7822
Oh no! I hope everything is allright
Rrrrrrr.........
That's cool. For some reason, forgot about it as a weapon for a second, and was thinking "a fish as a war weapon? hardcore!"
LOL
@molten ether Sign up on the product page for alerts, and watch your email -- also, if you lurk on Discord, you might get advance notice of incoming stock ๐
I chose that name back in the 1200 baud dial-up days.
y no one calling?
(646) 248-7822
@waxen thistle thanks, I was just a couple of hours too late last time and didnโt get it
Waiting... waiting...
However, the Youtube chat has my real name.
You should install a Hallowing inplace of that eye on the RadioShack phone.
Did you have a charlieplex hat demo on the desk?
I would call but i've alread won
Yay!
@molten ether I know how you feel -- I missed the first handful of batches myself, but that's life ๐ Patience is a virtue? Or so I keep telling myself ๐
Thanks and good night.

I hope the Ruiz brothers don't file a copyright claim on @haughty quiver for doing 3d printing
(Thinks) That was meant for me.
oh yes ^^
Lol.
stupid autocomplete !
Autocomplete... Autofocus... the work of the devil.
That's a cool retro-looking bezel.
If I was to make one for my channel, It'd be stuck on 3 subscribers and 7 views ^^
I own the same exact set -- it's absolutely amazing.
There is a LOT of thought put into the ifixit screwdriver kit -- dual-colored foam to see which bits you've removed. The lid has checkerboard ridges when turned upside down, so you can use it to sort removed screws.
How hard is it to write a CircuitPython driver ? I have a Pimoroni InkyWHAT (eInk display for the RaspberryPi) and I was wondering how difficult it would be to write a CircuitPython lib/driver
I think it's an SPI device
@haughty quiver don't you have an error in your code ? Thoses lines awfully look like a stack trace
@haughty quiver Check you didn't break the json by deleting a comma or something
Hmm. Ferengi Tube Grubs.
lots of stuff missing at the end of this json !

Missing closing brackets
I think you deleted the end of the file by mistake
@haughty quiver Thanks for another awesome show! Enjoy your time off!

Enjoy your break, @haughty quiver
yes @lavish patrol ! but also my brain is on hold I think, from the freezing temperature outside ^^
๐
๐
@haughty quiver can't you setup a replay of an old show for next week ? ^^
ooh, interesting idea @young adder
Streaming isn't easy, anyone who does it automatically gets a boatload of respect. Streamers are focusing on their craft (gaming, etc), reading chat which is everything from ๐ to deep thoughts -- so many lines it's a small book sometimes....while maintaining a persona that's entertaining + performing technical work with OBS + moderation. @hot swallow
@waxen thistle totally!
Haha, I just got it working! Had to save directly from Atom to the CIRCUITPY drive, it didn't like me trying to drag move it.
Interesting interaction @haughty quiver --- any idea why it behaves like that?
no, it's a first for me, but this PyPortal has endured a lot of odd filesystem shennanigans from me during testing.
Always when the demo is over. Then it works. ๐ค
@lavish patrol Gremlins.
@waxen thistle Yep.
Lol.
I demand a recount.
999,999,999
That's better.
Wait, is that point 88 of a view?
Their attention was divided.
Lol.
happens a lot : ]
My attention gets divided by zero frequently.
So long as we don't have .88 of a subscriber. That would be suspicious.
I might to resolve to cheatings if I want to be able to place those big numbers correctly ^^
or, I set one up with a big font so that my 2-digit number of subscribers fill the whole width of the screen ๐
I have precious few subscribers. I think a pre-requisite is to have videos first ๐
But those who have subbed to me....those are the real MVPs hahaha
Well, I'll check that when I get a PyPortal. If I get one. Who knows, one might show up on its own !
@waxen thistle I'm sure you could buy subscribers.
When you buy subscribers can you stipulate that they only leave nice comments, too?

About your video for Arduino Day 2019..
- Amazing
I have so many old Arduino stuff. I think i'm one of the first Adafruit users here in the Netherlands.
I'm pushing and supporting so many things around the Circuit Playground Express here to get poeple on it. My youngest daughter (10) has just started two weeks ago to make the buzzer working when she hits the button or the light in the room goes dark.
I also make all that stuff useable for Lego to show and let work kids with it. Build a baseplate 32x32 and set sensors on it, a fan, i2c bus modules, and so on. An UNO, next version gets a CPX too and yeah a Wemos ;-).
You girls and guys are amazing.

It usually has that soft carbon on the dpad elastomers themselves.

@sweet monolith yes!!! it's sooo good for that! use every piece ๐

Is there a recommendation? https://10beasts.com/best-3d-pens/
The market is saturated with this new technology called "3D Pen" which might confuse you. Here is a list of the Best 3D Pens for March 2019.
@lethal lagoon Can iy be used as a glue gun, i.e. does the pla etc. stick?
@lavish patrol it depends on the substrate, it has the same sticking requirements as getting PLA to stick to a printer bed, but it stuck pretty well to my uncoated EVA foam, i did reinforce the attachment with a little hot glue
