thnx!
Call me crazy, but there are moments in DS9 that I absolutely love. Pretty much anything with Garak.
If Garak was placed in Westeros, we'd have maybe 2x seasons of Game of Thrones, at most.
Hello
@open girder UPS has been delayed as well.
@open girder 'last'(๐ ) question : you mentioned a touch screen wrapper library, i was about to make my own. is that public yet?
UPS is having some "Brown"-outs
@waxen thistle i love Voyager, out in the delta quadrant, into the unknown!
less of UPS more of STAYSTIILS
I've been watching Discovery.
@lethal lagoon Janeway was tough as nails.
K. I know it's a reboot, but I've been enjoying it.
@severe vigil i'll email the link and/or here if i can during show
I just can't rewatch Voyager. I watched it in it's first run. Tried recently.. but had to stop. Might try again though.
wait! picard or janeway?
Loved all the rest.
@severe vigil both!
The Orville has been a surprisingly good "trek", even considering it's a Seth McFarlane pet project.
I'm still not sure about Discovery, but the last episode was great IMO.
Lol. I hadn't watched Voyager before I saw Orange is the new Black.
and thank you @open girder no rush on my end, i have a widget sizing issue to track down in gui v2
all sci-fi that shows and celebrates the human potential is good, star trek is good at that
i agree with @lethal lagoon
I'm big into The Expanse these days
grats @clear matrix!
Thanks!!
The Expanse is good.
Yay @clear matrix !!!
@odd stream Now THAT was an awesome show. I hope netflix picks it up.
Also Orville.
@waxen thistle I just found out that a former Maya student of mine is a set designer on The Orville.
@open girder Keyboard support in Circuitpython when? ๐ A fully independent Circuit Python device with screen. (Mostly kidding)
working on it @quick veldt
@haughty quiver Tell her "GOOD JOB"....it's such a bright and clean set.
oh really?
@waxen thistle The Expanse? Amazon took it over. They have Seasons 1-3 about to go live and are in production on season 4.
usb host is harder
Hello! I used to go to school for electronics but they started us with 2 years of theory so I got bored and didn't really study. I want to get back to it. Do I start with basic electricity or the low level stuff like half-adders - what I am interested in doing with electronics is - making my own tiny devices from scratch, that will handle some I/O, LCD, etc, also making my own USB devices, also I am interested in reverse engineering electronics (mostly arm driven keyboards) and USB devices. I have alredy played with Arduino and NodeMCU and done some basic stuff but I want to make sure I properly understand everything even at low level.
@odd stream agreed. Expanse is a really good show.
Ah.. I rent in a highrise.. I care not for pipes.
@odd stream Awesome -- when SciFi cancelled it, I was heartbroken
@quick veldt that is my goal , independent with serial for trico mark infinity
Fav theme song!
too
It is a very good melody!
@flat vapor they'll answer questions at the end. I'd suggest starting with what you are interested in
Great! stuck in my head again
@rapid hornet Good point. Thank you!
heh. been in mine for a week
That email makes a good point. Buying from Adafruit buys you more than just the hardware.
i'm loving all the cartoon network projects! so fun!
@odd stream Full agreement
if you are a fan of the episode EMERGENCE from STNG we have a treat for you tonight
@severe vigil here ya go - https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CircuitPython_Touchscreen
@rapid hornet btw should we repost our question when they get to answering questions or are the questions we are asking now being written down?
๐ thanks

@open girder Q: Hello! I used to go to school for electronics but they started us with 2 years of theory so I got bored and didn't really study. I want to get back to it. Why do you use a DotStar as the status LED on Itsy Bitsys, but a NeoPixel on the other Express boards?
Q: All of those awesome quotes that you use on the various adafruit site pages. Where do you get them & how do you ensure you don't use one that someone can legally challenge you for using it?
Q: Where are the ESP32, and nRF52840 in terms of speed compared to the M0 and M4 that Adafruit uses for most Circuitpython devices. And since ESP32 runs MicroPython, any plans to port Circuitpython?
Will any of the upcoming boards have the QSPI/onboard flash pins broken out to headers? I have an external flash chip to interface with and QSPI would be really nice.

Awesome! You're Welcome @haughty quiver
Thank you for the stream! ^_^
those square bi-color 8x8 matrices are soooo nice looking
@haughty quiver agreed
I'm very drawn to using one as a display for a synth or sequencer.
For the CircuitPlayground there is code for Beep and Boops, is this where Adafruit intends to leave it or might the code get moved so I can use it with the NeoTrellis?
@dusty salmon I'm not sure I understand the question
@haughty quiver I picked up an 8x8 bicolor matrix, plan to make a planetary K-index graphing indicator with it.
I found code in the Python CircuitPlayground lib using sin waves to make beeps and boops, is there another way to make basic sounds on my NeoTrellis without copying out the code
You want to make sounds on the NeoTrellis M4 board using CircuitPython, yes?
I was using an 8x8 bi matrix to display weather icons, was planning to upgrade to animations when I got a blue smoke monster
yes JP

@odd stream @haughty quiver that frequency generator looks sweet! How accurate is it? I was looking at building one of the following to add to my ham radio tool collection, but your project seems like it would be nice for the audio range.
http://clearskyinstitute.com/ham/gps/
@fathom sparrow It should be pretty close, allowing for rounding errors. I haven't measured it though. It's far from hi-fidelity. Especially at higher frequencies.
@odd stream Well, it's a sweet enough build it's on my "must do" list -- thanks!

@haughty quiver insulation need perhaps for your workshop as too hot in summer
That would be awesome.
@haughty quiver I've heard people have good luck with a homemade cabinet made from Ikea LACK tables + acrylic.
thanks for watching folks!
well there was video of 3d printer what 3d printed in winter too
Bye all. See you again in eight hours. ๐
awesome show, thanks @hard hollow and @rocky reef
Until tonight ;^)
@haughty quiver Though, I'd hesitate personally with a LACK cabinet. A 3D printer generates heat, there is always a risk of fire, and the LACK is literally cardboard-filled particleboard.
On the other hand, you can dress it up nicely with neopixels, RPi streaming camera for remote monitoring, and smoke detection.
@waxen thistle @haughty quiver i see some people use ikea cabinets, they add acrylic walls
Yeah, I think enclosing it is probably a good idea in a lot of ways, but also a bit of a pain for getting at all the parts.
also set the bed hotter? maybe 90c
soon @haughty quiver have tempcamera with sensor to detect temp flux in workshop if it get away
oh wow, that's quite hot compared to the 60c i'm using @calm nebula!
It actually finished the print, but shifted 2mm halfway though and had the sad Ultimaker is too cold error displayed
The nice part about the LACK is it's just a table....you can design it so the upper portion just lifts off the base to access all the parts inside. And it's dirt cheap.
or 70? just to compensate the coldness
I'd probably try enclosing it in some simple fashion (cardboard box), then adding a temperature sensor, fan, smoke detector, and alert beeper, maybe a heater (light bulb) and some Arduino code to make sure it didn't get too warm or too cold and alert if something went awry.
ah good idea @waxen thistle
@haughty quiver oh wow, didn't know the ultimaker could display that cold error
@prime sentinel Solid idea -- there's about a half-dozen projects one can generate from such an enclosure. Smoke sensor, camera, fan, temperature, etc. Combine it with adafruit IO, etc.
Right?! Nobody in California or Florida should ever see that :)
crazy
Didn't Elsa visit DisneyLand?
I'm Frankensteining your Crickit case @hard hollow @rocky reef
wow, that looks awesome!
@haughty quiver I wonder if a 3D printer cab could be built with a traditional sheetrock interior lining and fire-resistant insulation, like Owens-Corning 703. Yeah, would be heavier than cardboard, but safer and warmer. And very quiet.
Or the paper-free sheetrock or just even heavier cement backerboard.

What are you building @dusty salmon ? What kinds of messages and bandwidth do you need? Is LoRa an option? (It can be free.)
I was trying to build my own phone for text messages and ideally phone calls that could also interact with i2c. Mostly born out of disliking the last 3 phones I had and wanting to see if I could make something to work how I like. I want to re program it instead of settings that don't fit my needs.
If I set a calender event I want the choice of actions to be only limited by my imagination or have an incoming call event trigger a servo just because that's how I feel that day
That sounds all kinds of fun!
I've integrated the SIM808 module that powers one of the FONA boards into a product, it's interesting.
I recently stayed in a smart house with remotes that had a 4 line high display, accelerator and wifi that could control lights, blinds, music (including searching Dizzer for songs and playlists) you could transfer music from one room to another. That was fun!
nice
Cool. Sounds like 2G would probably be enough, @dusty salmon . Try posting a question asking about UK Fona 2G SIMS in:
https://forums.adafruit.com/viewforum.php?f=54
I'll book mark that for tomorrow, thanks.
The remotes controlled TV's XBox One's and even the heating (but that part was dodgy)
The house had Alexa Show (Alexa with 7 or 8 inch screens built in)
All I could think was Adafruit makes everything in the remote and many things the house used
They're sunsetting 2G in most of the UK, so you may be stuck going with a more modern chip (Telit and ublox make some good modules).
Most of the time my phone only works on 2g internet so I hope not too soon. 3g tries but never works
Ah, that's handy, there are a lot more 2G modules out there, and they're cheaper than the LTE versions.
my contract is still a year on it
This is a great module and you can plug it into a breadboard, but at $115 it's not cheap https://www.mikroe.com/4g-lte-e-click
That looks super useful, my current phone contract should be 4g despite it's performance.
bookmarked for the morning.
Here's one of the earlier Mikrobus modules in a project I was working on.
Heh, it receives notification via SMS over the cellular modem (as well as some geofencing type processing) and marks itself as "stolen". We later changed the wording to "lost".
We also later changed the cellular modem to a FONA 808 ๐
So looking at the pin out it's UART and powered by 5v, would I need to give it 5v and 3.3v I normally only use adafruit and rasberry pi based stuff
that's built to stack on a fixed format, this mikroBUS is brand new to me
do adafruit have a feather wing to RPi adapter hat to put feather wings on a Pi?
ooohh, the flip and click sam3x acts as both an Arduino form factor and 4 socket mikroBUS and runs Arduino and Python. bu it is $49
As you can see, I didn't have any Mikrobus hardware, I just plugged it into a breadboard and wired up the signals I needed.
If you want a soldered down instead of breadboarded implementation, you could get a Proto Hat and solder up something workable.

Hello guys
We need a gameshow like the old Nick Arcade, but with MakeCode Arcade.
Amazing what one can do with MakeCode now. So neat
No fender benders here with that collision detection.
nice lightswitch
Now all I have to do is build a handheld console running CircuitPython. Adafruit Pocket.
But we have to translate a lot to german.
My daughter was so excited to see her favourite soft toy on-screen in the MakeCode Arcade game I'm working on.

that crickit holder looked in earlier image with metal but but that is good too
Much simpler to implement than direct wiring for 2-way switches, too.

thanks so much all.
I love when a practical need easily justifies a multi-disciplinary project
@haughty quiver did you get a Sirin: Analog Messenger Of Joy?
@haughty quiver Cool project.
@dense marlin no, but they sure sound nice, I played around with the Sirin at the Moog House of Electronicus that was here briefly.
and a Moog One!
I bought an Analog Messenger of Joy t-shirt, which was more within my budget :)
Cool. Hope to get my hands at superbooth on this Moogs
I've been borrowing the DFAM from a friend and I love it.
Thy are out of my budget too
Which is why I have a Werkstatt !
Usually run $200 new, but they've been discontinued.
This is great for makers, isnโt it?
Yes, it's very maker friendly.
I have created arpeggiators for it with a Trinket M0, it's very easy to hook into it.
Moog did a nice series of tutorials on hacking it.
Yes, saw them. But I donโt have one jet.
So back to the project today. This is not working with the M0 Bluefruit right? Iโm still confused with the difference of these boards.
The nRF52840 has so much more speed and space that it's the best choice for BLE on a Feather in CircuitPython.
And the M0 Bluefruit is better for Arduino than.
Either is good to use with Arduino.
However, I was able to get BLE working on the M0 Bluefruit feather: https://learn.adafruit.com/munny-lamp/code-with-circuitpython
I think you'll run out of room quickly if you try to do much more on the M0.
I don't think you could necessarily load all the libraries needed for today's project on the M0.
Okay.
Also on the M0 Bluefruit feather, the BLE function is on a separate chip, so I don't think you can use the BLE functions of CircuitPython, even if you had the space. (In the Arduino realm, you talk to the BLE part of the M0 Bluefruit as if it were a serial device)
It is confusing though, because there are so many different ways to do things
Yes -- if you look at the code in the Munny project it is much more of a brute force hack that Limor created to get it working
it's BluefruitSPI
@dense marlin if you want to try it, this is the code from today's project https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Learning_System_Guides/blob/master/BLE_Crickit_Light_Switch/ble_crickit_light_switch.py
clean code, there Mr JP
Okay, but I only have the M0 Bluefruit Feather.
Oh, right, yes.
you could see if combining that and the Munny code is possible.
thanks Seรฑor Bot. It's just me paring down @paper peak 's excellent clean code :)
There is a guide for a four button HID with a feather. I canโt find it now. But I what this sending the signal via Bluetooth to a Mac to control volume etc.
โฆ not via the USB cable
Cool!
No, didnโt see this.
This, but Bluetooth https://learn.adafruit.com/arcade-button-control-box
I did a BLE joystick that could be what you want https://learn.adafruit.com/atarifruit-2600-joystick
Ah, okay.
yeah that joystick is just 5 buttons ๐
Than I maybe need another Feather Board.
Totally. It's how I type now @cinder wind
@dense marlin I think you could build it with the M0 Bluefruit feather.
But then in Arduino not in python?
Yes.
Ah, okay.
The HID key entry project. Base it on that joystick project.
I will try this. Thanks.
That helped a lot. There is so much out, itโs sometimes hard to find the right things.
I know! Happy to help.
