great at charades
I feel like "Maker Charades" would be a super fun thing to do
pull
Excellent round of charades!
Intentionally, that is
Quite!
Remember to have a white board behind you, just in case the mic goes south!
Like Ready Player One, JMK making The Oasis
JMK bump those fonts up like a LOT please!
Or everyone learn ASL really quick.
@waxen thistle Sounds like a great idea regardless
He's young enough to see 6 pt. type. :)
White board might be a little more practical, but that’s a noble idea
LOL
lol
Awesome show everyone!
thanks EVERYONE!!!!
Great job everyone!
Yay!
Fantastic, everyone!
so, I have "JP JAMZ" and now I have "Jokes by JMK"...
@vernal mulch you are very prolific with all your projects. impressed!
Now I need to go pack for my early morning flight to Seattle tomorrow

Nice, just hit refresh and you shift to AAE!
@river peak Have fun. I love Seattle.
@river peak Take frequent breaks, flapping your arms for such a long distance can be tiring.
Seattle is very nice, lived there awhile
@river peak we need to plan something right?
@rapid hornet Indeed!

Hi everyone!
Phil all the way down.
Hello @viral sail!
feynman and bongos
It's amazing the robots PT has been making only use what's around or in the Adafruit trash can
Low-cost robotics is so cool.

Extensive use of the plastic spoon. Next-up: sporkbots!
Nice project @clear matrix
Thanks @lavish patrol!
Some places sell robot parts but they are soooo expensive, easy to get $100, to $500+ in a cart. But these days, you don't need to spend a fortune, especially if you use some cardboard or other cheap, easy to find items.
Slightly related (in mindset) to low-cost robotics: This book "Irreverent Photo Tools" has the same mentality -- using what you have on hand to take awesome photos, instead of throwing money at a solution.
https://www.amazon.com/Irreverent-Photo-Tools-Digital-Photographers/dp/1598639951
I love that idea, but he'll need to rename it. Trademark's are much easier to defend than patents, etc.

.oO(..wonder how the hedgehog guy is doing)
Hedgehog guy?
Yeah he wanted to control the light so that the hedgehog could overwinter (I think). Apparently light was needed to keep it from hibernating or something.
I remember that
Glowy McCutstuff
Good question, hope the hedgy is doing well 😃
Why would you want to stop it from hibernating?
It's too sad to type here. Bad juju, apparently.
We don't want bad juju...
hmm.. "I can I2C you"
That was my beach growing up
You can train crows to do that.
That's a brilliant way to do it @hard hollow and @rocky reef!
Yeah, I'm really impressed with this
I wish the controller on my Spark would let me control the LEDs
Yes, I'm not detracting from Noe and Pedro's project. I just thought I'd mention it.
does makecode work with other boards besides the circuit playground?

yay, discord
@spring heath They will now. 😉
@rapid hornet I'm ordering some PCBs, are you still up for assembling a few?
Well, I'll encode them in super secure ROT13 cypher
good job @rapid hornet !
Very nice @rapid hornet !
I've been messing with MicroPython on the BBC Micro:bit and I have to say that as far as the ease of getting code onto the device, I much prefer CircuitPython.
You guys should make a Mu golf club cover. ;)
@fallow fractal I'd buy one, for sure... 🏌
Sensor Plotting with Mu and CircuitPython https://learn.adafruit.com/sensor-plotting-with-mu-and-circuitpython/pulse ....
Hey @haughty quiver do you think we could use it as an oximeter to read the color?
now if i could only get the plotter to map to the dotstar
There's a pirate version of the Mu logo as well. It's brilliant. Has tiny rounded teeth.
Golf is too much like exercise - techies burn in the sun
@spring heath And glow in the dark.
Golf is a good walk spoilt.
man...all the golf hate. 😄
Fear of the daystar. Make it night golf and we'll talk. But only if you want to be entirely entertained by how badly it goes.
Cosmic Mini golf
@rapid hornet Is there a CP library for the MCP23017 Port Expander?
And the INS219a Current sensor?
strong a.i. isn't possible. ;)
You have to make the golf balls glow in the dark. Instead of the techies.
Game Over: Kasparov and the Machine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Over:_Kasparov_and_the_Machine ....
night golf is fun. and my goto golf phrase: "Golfers are just glutens for punishment".
Perhaps I'll "Ask an Engineer" 😃
@pearl shoal We have the INA219, but nothing close to it, as far as I know. We do have MCP230XX lib, might include that.
Deep Blye is in Davy Jones' Locker
Sorry, that was a typo - I meant the standard current sensor you guys sell
Deep Blue is in the same IBM stash as Lynn Conway's apology
I play World Class Stareout with my computer. 😀
Well, @clear matrix, we might become better friends 😃
@pearl shoal Excellent 😃
We are combining the two onto this PCB to make the ATMakers SwitchBoard. We reviewed it last night & it will be hugely helpful to AT users https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSVgQZfG1ko

Adafruit NeoPXL8 FeatherWing for Feather M0 - 8 x DMA NeoPixels! https://www.adafruit.com/product/3249
Since we first started carrying NeoPixels back in 2012, the chainable RGB LEDs have taken over the world. And a big part of that success is due to the simplicity of their wiring - just one ...
A Question (now or in the end section) - When we would use this DMA NeoPixel wing vs a FadeCandy & a Rasperry Pi Zero?
very japanese since 'r's are 'l's and 'l's are 'r's
Nice... I used something like this on the Teensy.
Hey! I've been neck-deep in the same datasheet pages! 😄
8 strands of 60 pixels each
Followup - is there a way to use the same protocol that the FadeCandy uses?
That's a sweet wing.
thats a lot of pixels o_o
So, it's for dedicated devices, not hooking up to a PC (even very small PC) - got it
Adafruit CRICKIT for Circuit Playground Express https://www.adafruit.com/product/3093
@pearl shoal I can also see it being useful for a remote device, where you can't or dont want to run cable between PC and the actual installation
Breadboard biscuits are live on Tindie, btw 😉
Why does the Micro-B USB port say "SeeSaw ONLY"?
Because it's seesaw only
ladyada posted a very thorough article just today on this.
I see. I saw that. 😀
@fallow fractal got a link?
it was in the regular feed here on discord
saesaw only becuase of its wired for seesaw
Beautiful board.
Gotcha! I thought that was for running the SeeSaw protocol over USB! This is actually very handy - you could even make a "Firmata" firmware for it
It's a lovely board
I might redo my SwitchBoard PCB to match that form factor
someone have reorg the discord rooms

CANBUS in the feather so cool
Oh, I want one of those. The CANBUS has all the peripherals, just loses the proto area?
I can see cool project with canbus weather
What size SPI flash on the feather?
You might be able to FrankenCrickit and Repurpose the SAMD21 coprocessor. ;)
Jiminy?
I suddenly wanna create a line of headers and name them "Tar", for use exclusively with Feathers
Criminy?
Is that real video or is the lips thing faked?
@pearl shoal some car and helping projects would be good with canbus weather
the lips are my favorite part - so surreal
i like 3D rotation
That's nightmare material

Is the Circuit Playground Express using the ATSAMD21G18A-AU?
you could wind an awesome ball of yarn

Will there be a FeatherWing version of the Cricket? I thought I saw one
or make a disco ball
Q: is there any info of how many steppers the Cricket can control?
CrochetBot?
That artwork will sell for $50 million someday.
Why is the max supply voltage on the M0 boards only 6 volts whereas the max supply voltage on e.g. the 5V Trinket or Pro trinket is 16 V ? The M0 based boards would be good for automotive apps if they allowed the higher input voltage.😎
super excited to tinker with motors and motion!
might the feather cricket be out and ready for adabox 008?
Can your UBEC solve the car problem? (the answer is yes)
😃
I have an old video on your forums about it
will CircuitPython have support for Cricket?
Thanx !
@lethal lagoon And add lights and touch and so much!
QSPI flash VFAT filesystem .. for M4 on the Arduino?
Is Adafruit moving towards more use of CAN bus?
@clear matrix all the things!
CAN bus is used in the FIRST robotics stuff (just an fyi)
hack a Zip car
there are also emulator/simulators...but they be pricey!
good lock!
easier to buy a car than simulate
i mean luck

knitting is like really slow and relaxing programming
@lethal lagoon Then you drop a stitch.
programming is usually really slow for me anyway, but not relaxing 😃
@lavish patrol physical debugging!
@lethal lagoon I can always try to help with programming! CircuitPython anyway 😄
@clear matrix thanks! sweeeet i will take you up on that when i get back next week! 😃
@lethal lagoon Great!
It depends on what language. I could not get on with Turbo Pascal.
my husband Kim has been helping me but we are both new to python
Python's fine, but it keeps tripping me up with it's indent rules.
It's all about the whitespace, for sure.
@lethal lagoon Definitely ping me, I'd love to help.
ok back to packing! any tips for flying with lots of bizarre electronics projects in your luggage?
Yes!
Specially of you move around from one editor to another, and one uses tabs while the other uses spaces.
@lethal lagoon don't put it in your hand luggage. 😯
@lethal lagoon Put it in containers and label them. I have those little zipper things that we sell, and I used a label maker to label everything. They looked at one of them once and were satisfied. Most likely they won't end up searching you anyway. If you're travelling with lipos, keep them separated from each other and in packaging where they won't short.
wait... really? i need to take selfiebot on the plane, definitely not checking that
tools have to be shorter than 7 inches
I have spent the last two months travelling with all kinds of crazy electronics stuff, and have not checked any baggage.
we have those special bags for traveling with lipos and drone batteries
When you go through security, say "I have notheg to declare but my genius."
Easier to just ship it UPS to yourself back home.
We had lots of alligator clips, boards, copper tape, wires, etc. I just put it all in ziplocs and put it in the bins -- don't know if that was really necessary but I was not asked about anything
@lavish patrol ha!
@lethal lagoon You'll be fine. Just be honest and open about what you have and be prepared to explain it if they want to look at it. I had some crazy wired up stuff with me and they searched me because I had a package of wipes.
I had a bag filled with misc wires on the last trip, including alligator clips, not organised at all, and no problems.
@paper peak Has the right idea -- keep it clean & neat, well organized, and full disclosure right off the bat.
@clear matrix hehe...
https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/household-and-tools "toy robots" are OK!
ok good to know, will organize and label, love busting out the label maker
@lethal lagoon Right? Great excuse!
I travelled with lipos, in little boxes, separated from each other, but all in the same container and had no problems.
im definitely checking my tools and repair kit though, just hand carrying the precious projects
SelfieBot and my Null headset
You'll be fine
Seriously don't check your bag. Plan on an extra 1/2 at the security line but I took a custom device to Seattle (from Sacramento) and TSA destroyed it (I checked it). They won't destroy things while you watch
Check your tools though (anything over 6" and anything with ANY blade will get confiscated)
Nothing of any value leaves your sight.
ahhh ok good advice...
I hope @haughty quiver is planning on using the lessons learned with Mr. Cardboard Hand on a potential Mr. PowerGlove Crickit project...
Well, I see the old clock on the wall is telling me it's 2:28 Am, and well past my bedtime. So I'm off to the Land of Nod. Night all.
@lavish patrol Night!
night @lavish patrol !
night!
packing a travel toolkit, what's everyone's must-have tools when you travel?
@lethal lagoon I can't speak more highly of the ifixit driver kit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0189YWOIO/
It's not the "best", nor the cheapest -- but it's pretty amazing at what it does, and it's a very fair price in a compact case.
a colleague has a set or two from ifixit. i have been impressed with them (read as "envious"). 😄
I own one, and I love it.
They have a bigger set with the spudger, cell phone suction cups, etc....I don't think THAT particular set has value.
But the 64 bit driver set is the sweet spot.
matter of fact, i asked them to bring it in tomorrow. gotta decommission a MacBook Air....
@lethal lagoon One of the best tools that saves a LOT of packing multiple individual tools is my cell phone. It's a camera, flashlight, video & audio recorder, etc.
I love my DSLR. I love a dedicated lighting rig. But in a pinch, most modern phones do all of those fairly well anymore.
Depends on what work you do, but I like having a few pairs of tweezers & spudgers of various types.
ooh yes we have an ifixit kit, good call
i am torn between bringing my dslr and just rolling with my iphone for pics/video
we will be carrying selfiebot around, so i'm leaning towards just phone, lighter, less equipment to deal with
The next idea is a bit bulky, but lightweight -- a Panavise Jr. Or some sort of way of securing a circuit board.
From there on out -- depends on the work you're doing. Soldering gear, pliers, multimeter, logic analyzer, etc
Generally a spool of wire, some of those really nice latch connectors (https://www.adafruit.com/product/874), wire strippers, electrical tape/heatshrink tubing/fire source...
Most importantly, a few spare parts (spare boards, etc). Things break. At the worst possible time too.
im trying to imagine what could break on the things i'm bringing, so i'm thinking zip ties, super glue, hot glue gun, gaff tape, soldering iron, solder, extra wire, electrical tape
great idea, i will bring spare boards
and a micro usb cable!
If you have a cheap mutimeter (like a freebie from Harbor Fright)...it's not good by any means, but it's ideal to see if you're getting 5v, 3v, or 29v (???)
And if it breaks or gets lost, you're out literally nothing.
And this is going to be a bulky suggestion -- a third-hands unit.
If you struggle without one at home in your lab, then you'll be pulling your hair out while in an unfamiliar environment without your full set of tools and tricks.
@lethal lagoon I wished I had my DSLR with me at PyCon, but I also wasn't carrying Selfiebot and other eq around.
@clear matrix right - i'm thinking i might bring my iphone and the osmo mobile for fun video
might do some live streaming on instagram
Nice!
sweet, thanks for the help everyone! super appreciate all the awesome advice 😃 hope to see some discord folks at maker faire this weekend, we'll be wearing our crazy headsets, if you see us say hi!
@lethal lagoon I always carry Blu-Tack and blue painter's (masking) tape.
Either can substitute for a third-hand or vise in a pinch. Heat shrink tubing is light and useful, too.
@lethal lagoon Good luck packing! Have a good night!
@waxen thistle What about that PCB vice that was a new product last week?
@lethal lagoon glue gun & sticks for it
@odd stream I haven't tried that one, but that could work -- could be very heavy though. A more expensive, lighter alternative could be the "Stickvise PCB Vise" https://www.adafruit.com/product/3197
Wire strippers (with the fixed die sizes to make all cuts). Tweezers. Jeweler's philips head screwdriver. #2 philips screwdriver (2" stubby is fine). Diagonal cutters (small ones for electronics work, removing excess thru-hole leads after soldering).
Strong drugstore diopter eyeglasses (reading glasses/ magnifiers). Very bright LED flashlight, and headgear to secure it to just above my forehead (usually just shoved under a knit cap, for that).
Hemostats; Leatherman folding pliers.
Extra-long break-away pin headers to join two female Dupont connectors (or to mate such to a breadboard socket).
Hand drill (wooden file handle with a bolt threaded into the end of it, to mate with a drill chuck) and a set of drill bits.
Something I continually forget to buy at the hardware store: a simple hand drill that has a small chuck attached, as you described. Forget this every time.
Made in 1989. The handle is unusual in that it accepts a threaded fastener (instead of the usual triangle shaped, tapered recess that accepts a standard metal file's tapered handle).
Thanks @fallow fractal
Perhaps I will remember on t he next trip
We are officially Standing By for John Park’s Workshop.
'pin vice' seems to turn up more hits in google's image search than does 'hand drill' for a similar device. Most 'hand drill' returns feature some mechanism besides the chuck. That mechanism provides the rotation (whereas mine is used exactly like a screwdriver).
I also have a 'screw starter' hand tool (also 25 years old) that is basically the threads of a wood screw etched into the shank of what would otherwise be a screwdriver.
Its job is to force a threaded pilot hole into soft pine that already has the threads (unlike predrilling a hole). Back that tool out, then use your wood screw as usual in that hole. Saves time if the wood is soft enough and thick enough not to split it.
Speaking of which, I have on occasion used a tap handle to hold a small drill bit, in a pinch
Would be nice to find a hand drill that had a keyless chuck
One fewer key to lose, etc.

DIdn’t realize it could be so straightforward to mimic hand grips like that
Using only cardboard, straw, string and glue (and a few servos, sure)
@eager sapphire think making VR glove
@odd stream you had all you needed at that company to rebuild it!
It was in fairly bad shape... kind of skanky.
I was starting to work on something along those lines with IMUs and haptics.
Hey guys. I am here. Just did not have discord installed on my mobile. Shawn@sensorthe.earth. Init6 is my trail name. Some thru hikers on the AT gave it to me.
It’s fitting!
reboot ;)
The code is still a mess and I am trying to get the modem tones smaller.
Yes. I need to reboot myself from time to time and hit the trails
I'm about a 20 minute drive from the Connecticut section of the trail.
Ohh nice. I live in the heart of Shenandoah National Park.

Of skyline drive
Nice digs!
If you stay there too long you 'wont understand the city' again when you return. ;)
Never going back
I miss the fresh Appalachian Spring
Water
I moved here to further my project
If there is anyone who wants to help, I could use it.
Flight is delayed but we got through TSA with no problems! Thanks for all the advice about packing, y’all 👍
@lethal lagoon now that kinect is reborn as project Kinect on Azure its good as its smaller and more smarter
@shell mason awesome thanks for mentioning that, I've been waiting for something a bit more robust to come out of Kinect for a while, those are some nice looking point clouds I'm seeing on the press release
@bitter relic You're sort-of local to me, I'm near Harpers Ferry.
Only a little (foot issues). 😦
I am working on section hikes
@quartz pasture nice way to implement to your maker projects?
I came in partway through, so while I'm theoretically willing to help get your modem tones smaller, I'm not sure what the context is. Digitized audio waveforms?
packet radio
I would love the help
right now between the mountains and dropped packets
Oooh, packet radio, cool! I might even be in range.
i am trying to build a way to replay
nice
i am pinging a repeater
near Washington forest
the watershed i am in is northern va
but i could move it
do you have 4wd?
most of the places are deep in
Alas, no 4WD. I was thinking radio range.
ohh do you have a HAM Radio?
Yeah, a few radios, HF, VHF, and UHF.
I could always use another base station
HF nice
i am working on getting licensed for that
right now i am on 70m 433
i started with GMRS / MURS
Ah, nice. I had an adventure the day I upgraded my license. I got up, had a root canal, drove a couple of hours to Charlottesville for an emergency preparedness exercise, drove another couple of hours to Martinsburg, took my test there.
Bizarrely, I managed to pass after all that!
I used to hang out on Wes's repeater on Mount Weather (WA4TSC, 147.3+)
i can get W4AVA
i will try that one tonight
what is the FQ?
.300
K4MRA works at night
i need to get a better antenna
have you done SOTA Summits on the Air?
I could use a local Chaser
I've done some contesting in the foothills, but not SOTA. Even a little HT is a popular contact in some areas, and with some altitude I get good range.
Our radio club used to launch high altitude balloons, so I did some building/chasing for them.
I have not made a successful contact
either i get there and something with the radio set up does not work or I dont get enough contacts
New England is nice. I spent some time a couple hours west of Boston. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada which has much the same climate and geography.
still learning
Nothing like getting out there and trying stuff to learn, but it can be frustrating.
@odd stream are you a trailer park boys fan?
@bitter relic Big time
@bitter relic They are 100% right about the pepperoni
@bitter relic No idea... haven't been in Halifax for many years. Going for a few days at the end of the month, though.
Oh yeah. I'll be dropping into KoD as few times while I'm there!
I have wanted to go since I heard.
I have seen them on tour in Philly
a few times
It was fun watching the show... I recognized so many places.
You have to love getting drunk and playing space!
its the best skit the have for sure.
@prime sentinel do you have your radio on? I am trying now
No, I'm at work right now. 😕
cool. I will try later
I will stay tuned to it.
is that the repeater
just confirming
That's the one. It's perched on a mountain, so it gets pretty good coverage in northern Virginia.

Hello, World...
Hey andy
@earnest cipher There's someone just like you over in YouTube chat. Have you mey him? 😉
met
NYEHH
RobotGrrl's online
Good evening all you wonderful people!
hey y'all
hi all!
I'm trying to follow two chats at the same time here.
Hi everyone!
If the Show & Tell isn't packed, I'll jump in and tease something in Hangouts 😮
Hi, @waxen thistle @spring heath @green pagoda etc. 😉
cool
@here SHOW-AND-TELL LIVE VIDEO! 5/23/18 (video) https://youtu.be/iyFQXrOB-aQ
beans cool
Oh, hey, I met this guy the other day.

Now you're playing with Power!
@rapid hornet Hey, I have one of those! The Game Boy, that is.
I'm definitely looking forward to fiddling with programming it with one of those chips.
i wanna do that, only way im getting my gameboy back is talking to the ex wife 😕
Did that hand just flip everyone off?
@haughty quiver This makes the number "2" very rude
@slow flint you can always get another
@slow flint Yeah, I picked one up for $7
✋
wife?? yeah, did that already........oh...another gameboy
i guess, there is a goodwill near work i should loot soon
oooo a string car!
Granted, the one I picked up has some screen issues, but I might be able to find one with a working screen but other issues and do some fixes.
I've had no luck with gameboys in store at gameboy. many on their auction site though
@slow flint Might be less painful to just buy another Gameboy
Hi folks!
Evening Seon.
@spring heath want me to drop?
Watching Scott eat :\
hey @hard venture && @odd stream 😃
@spring heath hehe. i was going to ask if it was tasty too... 😄 😋
I'm hungry....
lol
lol
heyo!
hi!
Hi @lethal lagoon !
sophy-bot
ooh robots!
I was in your town the other day, @lethal lagoon . But you were having fun in SF.
ive gone to plexiglass instead of cardboard. my first mounted project uses thick cardboard salvaged from the bottom of a shipping box.
Hello everyone! (Dinner has been consumed.)
@river peak oh snap!
great prototype
nice prototype!
That's no good!
Oh man, SSDs are so much better. Pricey, but better. Less heat, less power, less noise
Entirely
ssd in a 3.0usb box is nice to have around. i run linux on a drive i carry for servicing friends computers
Let's just say that SSDs are the wave of the future -- the only place for spinning disk is low-cost/GB, high-capacity, third tier storage in devices like a NAS.
Oh, yeah. HDDs are like Tape Drives. Great for storing things, since cost is low
And even then, rebuild times for RAID for drives larger than 4tb is getting insane. To the point where you could risk a secondary failure -- hence dual-failure tolerant (RAID 6-style schemes) are suggested.
When it doesn't work, does that make it "WHY?-fi"?
he knows what kind of current draw it's got.
turns out @river peak is a master punner in real life as well
yeah, broke down and put an SSD in my server just for my game servers.
@rapid hornet All puns, all the time.
@river peak Believable.
nis, i know, i wold not have understood that at his age
back where we used rocks and raw minerals for resistors
There is no off for Andon's genius switch. 😃
love the eff sticker
Serious mike.
@rapid hornet I just said that 😄
ohh electronic frontier
You know Adabox is awesome when you lose count of them!
Anyone want to test out channelbot?
If we want to determine which Adabox is best, do we have to have a boxing match?
@earnest cipher Put it on a robot.
^
T-shirt tank!
when i finish hooking it up, i may do a S&T from work with my remote door unlocker that plays close encounters theme when unlocked. fun with work door locks. anyone with a keypad door lock may like it.
make it shoot show and tell stickers
dinner served, just in time...
@sacred isle 👍
ROB!
😃
@river peak I can one up you. I put it on a hovercraft
I forgot how much I love show and tell. It’s been almost 3 months since I’ve been healthy enough to share a project (or even make anything)
Oooooh.
@green pagoda Welcome back!!!!
glad to see you back @green pagoda
Welcome back, @green pagoda !
@green pagoda Good to hear you're feeling better!
@green pagoda Good to hear you're feeling better.
have mine with me too, im at work right now and its plugged in to my laptop as we speak. CPE-FTW
@slow flint For the next iteration, use a hand-gesture sensor and have it unlock when you give the solfege gestures for the Close Encounters theme...
CEOTTK
the nex iteration is getting a port to a pi, so i can pull from the security camera from the micro camera mounted to the door.
takes a hydration break!
Good show as usual.
thankafruit!
yay
Thankafruit indeed
Great S&T all!
Thanks @lavish patrol @river peak @rapid hornet @clear matrix @inner spade
good idea. fill your bottles if ya gottem
BRB
Nice that all it ‘takes is a refresh on YT to shift from S&T to AAE
Thanks everyone for Showin & Tellin!!!
you should be able to goto youtube.com/adafruit/live
Thanks Show & Tellers!
Great projects everyone!
is there going to be a S&T clocks show. i think that is almost everyone's first project.
@slow flint I'd better hurry and finish my clock, then. 😉
i finished one, now mum wants me to make a bunch more that are frameable. she wants me to sell them, i told her thats not how open source works. but i have started a version using the CPE.

hi mike!
hi all
👋
🐢
World turtle day. It's turtles all the way down. 🐢
i have a 🐢 keyfob, ahead of the game!
we dont bite....hard
Hi @velvet beacon!
hiya @clear matrix!
world turtle! wurtle!
NO!
Turtle wurtle? Wurtleurtle.
@river peak It's a disc atop four elephants on the back of a turtle floating through space.
@river peak It's a common myth. The earth is actually a geodesic polyhedron.
purple crayons
you can use cricuts for eva foam in cosplay, i haven't done it yet but I've seen some gorgeous results
@lavish patrol Arrangements have been made.
hiya @lethal lagoon!
@clear matrix Elephants?
hi @velvet beacon!!!
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
i got my crickit in the mail today and i was so excited i tried to make something for show & tell but so far all i've made is a big mess on my table hehe
the servos are all going, though!
All projects should start with a mess @lethal lagoon!
adafruit marshmallows when?
@clear matrix important part of my process 😃
I would like to see just how many crickets there can be.
oh wow, the audio along with the counting is great
that hand is such a cool project!
hiya 😄
Yeah @velvet beacon and @gaunt plume!
hug report...for being in discord? I'll take it
Hi @velvet beacon, Hi @gaunt plume!
Hi @river peak!
wee! @velvet beacon and @gaunt plume 👏
👋
@lethal lagoon I'm really excited to see what you produce with the crikit
thermal material cosplays or something fun i'm sure
@velvet beacon You have a job that I'm pretty sure I'd have a love/hate relationship with. I enjoy solving the math parts of money/company stuff, but at the same time, it's money and that's stressful for me.
@gaunt plume i'm so excited to play with it! so many possibilities!
"Ohhhh. The John Park is IN the computer..."
He IS the computer!
JP has been assimilated.

Resistors don't have any capacity for assimilation.
But Capacitors, on the other hand...
@river peak i'm so incredibly fortunate to work side-by-side with a team including ladyada and mr. ladyada.
Hey @velvet beacon
@hard hollow and @calm nebula videos are so inspiring
hey @spring heath! how are ya?
Having fun working for the Fruit
@lethal lagoon So true -- their videos are produced SO well.
@waxen thistle yes! and the ideas! so cool
A fellow Canadian on the show!!
@spring heath yay! such a wonderful addition!
thanks 😃
whats the level shifter on the cricket? i need to deal with most m0 boards being 3.3 logic
Hi @velvet beacon
Meccano!
@velvet beacon Yeah, I'd definitely say the whole team seems wonderful to work with. But it's still someone else's money. It's one thing to be using the money of some nameless boss who you don't care much about, but money from people like them? I'd feel bad if something I was working on fell through and "wasted" it.
hi @odd stream!
@gaunt plume Hey there! Congrats on the school thing.
oh hi - and thank you!
🍌
@slow flint they usually do the "Q&A" section at the end of the show
"In my head there's no gravity.."
evil dead?
i know, just wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head. ill cut and paste that question for later
there was a crawling hand in The Munsters
The hand was Harvey Weinstein's dad's.
There are quite a few films about severed hands: http://b-moviecat.blogspot.com/2014/08/the-b-list-11-movies-featuring-evil.html
I think it's 5V since the suggested solenoid on the learnguide is 5V and the neopixel level shifter is also 5v @slow flint
wow, 10 movies. Handy list.
with the CPE having 3.3 logic, and the trinket m0 and feathers running mostly on 3.3 im going to see if i can make a brakeout bord of my own with power and level shifing all on board
breakout^
@velvet beacon Evil Dead was the first that popped in my head, too. Then, 90s Adam's Family... 😄
might not need to - the crikit has a 5V barrel jack @slow flint
@slow flint It looks like the Crickit doesn't have any level shifting. Looks all 3.3v
The Crickit (seesaw) MCU is SAMD21 family.
yep, but im not always working on CPE. this is for all 3.3 logic devices
There's a level shifter on the CRICKIT that is on the NeoPixel out terminal to go 5V on the data line.
"this is not what I intended" - how every good scifi movie starts...
andon the cricket picture shows a level shifted neopixel output
WormBot?
hiya @haughty quiver!
thats the standalone part im wanting to make
Hi @velvet beacon !
If the pivot was free moving, you might not need a motor there...
@rapid hornet @clear matrix Sorry for that not meant the way i said it.
@slow flint The schematic shows it connected to 3.3v
InchBot - measuring the daffodils.
I think
from the description.. "1 x NeoPixel driver with 5V level shifter"
The center motor could help with stair-climbing.

grats Circuit Python team!!!
Yah!
3.0 beta is pretty cool!
3⃣beta
❤ Snakes.
What is CircuitPython? https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-circuitpython/what-is-circuitpython
@slow flint How many channels of level shifting do you want?
@river peak just one for starters, like a feather to 1 strip of neopixels .

@slow flint https://www.adafruit.com/product/1787
i have the bidirectional breakouts for testing, but final items need space concerns. looking for SM package.
have 4 of those. 74AHCT125. neeeeeeeed smaaaalllleeerrrrrr 😛
(it's def. yanny)
yanny 😃
@slow flint https://www.adafruit.com/product/757
have 3 of those
Laurel And Yanny must be sick of this by now. 😀
love it!
🤣
slow mo!!!
lol
still, want a stack of crickets (will put them all in a mesh box to look like fishing bait) since im looking at making a load of boards to give away to friends kids
@slow flint I think I'm not quite getting just what you want to do.
"Adafruit St Letters scores a 7/10 in RobLympics. I think he lost some points on the dismount..."
haha that voice
"ye ye ye ye"
Has any one use GEMMA v2 near magnets? And had any issues
yay yay yay
yay yay yay!
Is she saying yanni yanni yanni?
lol
she loves you. ye ye ye
i love crickit's voice ;0
Is that a Glados voice?
@lethal lagoon agreed!
@odd stream it's very Glados!
the man from glad has a new friend
Saving the best till last. 😉
@odd stream totally!
ok, say you have a 3.3 logic trinket/CP/CPE, and you want to run neopixels on them. but you just want the bare bones level shifting in a very tiny package. i see the cricket has this onboard, im wanting to make JUST that. not a load of channels, just one.
i have been loving these videos all week 😃
ok, this vid was disturbing
\
@lethal lagoon Yep.
This is STILL funny Phil
this is my favorite one!
She's trying so hard not to laugh
Swadabot!
parallel universe
Lincoln!
LINCOLN?
lincoln logs!
didn't say i had a problem . it was just not expected
@slow flint The TXB0102 comes in multiple small packages
pirkey is epic
great for accessability
bingo, thats it eric
i just have so much trouble searching digikey for simple things like this
yay @odd stream!
It's in C
I got a few and didn't realize how small they really were until they got here.
I had originally done in in CP but there was an issue with the startup time.
brain in a vat!
im looking to make a version with a polyfuse and cap as a neopixel driver board
worldturtle!
The turtle's back.
if ada has one already, then im blind, or derped. that is a good thing to make as a breakout
Teenage Mutant Ninja Crickits!
testing and prepping 😃
Most people want more channels, so a breakout for that part isn't nearly as likely. You don't need a breakout though right? You can test with the 04 or 08.
Adafruit probably has a breakout for the 08.
Ok, that's cool.
whoa that worm robot was cool!
that was a jaw dropper -- spiral drive wiggly worm thing

whirled turtle
Someone posted a picture of a turtle for world turtle day
Ada Twist, Scientist https://www.adafruit.com/product/3820
(a different spin)
And I swear it looked like someone put a pancake on top of a snake
not really, its a strange requirement, i can be a breakout, but total size is in the mm scale. like 3 pins in, 3 pins out. power in. 3.3 logic in, protected 5v driving power out, 5v shifted logic. something to fit next to a trinket m0.
I'd like to see a Mentos story video on some of these subjects we cover here.
I tried saving the chocolate turtles, but couldn't do it.
oh a hidey hole
You should name some stuff after Hedy Lamarr.

i still do my lock picking with a paperclip and mini screwdriver
That set is almost identical to the first one I got back in 1982.
the laminated one
i could use a real kit.
I just use boltcutters. 😉
If watching Arrow has taught me anything, you can just shoot an arrow at a lock and it'll magically open.
I use more of a Gumby method and just go in through the walls.
Or take some roof tiles off.
All joking aside, never practice picking a lock you depend on. Picking can damage and wear down locks.
@fallow fractal Kool-aid man?
have a lage bolt cutter sitting next to me now. its amazing how many people i have to "save"

Ultra High Density DotStar LED PCB Bar - 128 LEDs https://www.adafruit.com/product/3776
Look, just bolt this to your ceiling fan already - we know that's the first thing you thought of! OK, so you already know what DotStar LEDs are - those digitally controllable LEDs that ...
holy moly
So many lights!
LEDs. Just LEDs.
that's gonna pull some current
You could do some serious POV stuff with that.
I'm sure plenty of people have some bright ideas for it
can you cut it down?
is the refresh rate too high for that
I hope @low fractal does something with these dense strips!
You could replace the Fires of Gondor with that LED strip.
oh, wait, that gives me an idea . vapor holograms using the dotstar. since its refresh is so high (i think thats the main part of DS someone correct me if im wrong))
"The LEDs are lit! Gondor calls for aid!" @waxen thistle
@lethal lagoon I think you should be able to cut those down, yes
ohhhhh, oggles the cricket hat
@haughty quiver ooh thanks
A real hat trick
rubs face against screen
@river peak And Makers will answer. Muster the Crickits. Assemble the CircuitPython army at Varick Street. As many engineers as can be found. You have two system cycles. On the third, we ride for Gondor and MakerFaires!
@lethal lagoon I'll try that and get back to you before you take my word for it, OK?!
Is the pirkey TX, RX, or both?
@haughty quiver oh I already cut mine into a thousand pieces! hehe
looks like it had both i/o
Is it illegal to own a lock pick set without a permit? Also can I send gerber file to Adafruit to get pcbs made
@haughty quiver hee hee yup i'll wait for you to confirm 😉
@vernal mulch That would definitely work as ambient light strips
may be more dense than you need for it however
@fiery coyote fairly certain Adafruit doesn't fab for anyone...
Yeah, @fiery coyote Adafruit actually sends out to others for prototype fabs, if I remember correctly
