@inner spade The Metro M0 Express runs CircuitPython and has an Arduino Uno header layout....
@open girder I want googilie eyes on the solder paste machine...
Yes! @glossy glacier
Ah circuit python. I thought someone was asking for a M0 and a RFM69 on the same board
@analog acorn Indeed, but I'm not advanced enough just yet...
Keep at it! You'l get there!
@kindred socket there is a feather with it I think
You'll*
I like the variety of perspectives from 360 to like microscopic to panoramic.. @open girder
@kindred socket yes, breakouts, FeatherWings, and Feathers with the modules on board.
My bad
it doesn't have the SPI flash though
I have a couple of RFM FeatherWings, but just tried the demo program from one end of the house to the other. Worked perfectly.
@kindred socket S'all good. Used the M0 RFM69 Feather combo via the Arduino IDE.
@paper peak now we need to get it going with circuitpython π
@rapid hornet Yes!
Hahah I look forward to it @rapid hornet
@paper peak Was able to get a pair of 915MHz RFM69s to run a couple of city blocks with simple wire antennas.
@inner spade I thought maybe just adding a counterpoise might add some gain.
Havent' tried that yet, but I can see if the signal strength is better.
@paper peak That could help, but my application didn't need more than about a city block range anyway.
Was able to cut the power level in half and maintain reliable transmissions.
@inner spade I'll try it eventually and report in the forums.
Cool.
HAHA I saw that they replaced the Attiny85 with a M0 on the Gemma?
@kindred socket YES, and same price. way better.
ships with CircuitPython @kindred socket
72 left from the first batch: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3501
The Adafruit Gemma M0 is a super small microcontroller board, with just enough built-in to create many simple projects. It may look small and cute: round, about the size of a quarter, with ...
Sounds like someone replaced a Toyota with a Ferrari
nu-nu-nu-nu
Oh look at the artwork on the back! It's gorgeous!
yeah, super pretty
its spongebob!!!!!
product links are in #general-tech thanks to @dim knot
How did they manage to shrink the dotstar leds to such a small size?
magic π
Sufficiently advanced science π
What is the package?
@kindred socket just a hot wash and then hot dryer
So i am thinking about that inductor. It gets hot, but I think that it has done that straight out of the factory. Tempted to just leave it...
@glossy glacier You mentioned it's hard to get a fan into there. What about one of those flexible air hoses (with a low flow)? https://www.tormach.com/uploads/images/Gallery/products/order_by_partnumber/30726-Segmented-Spray-Hose_MG_7283.jpg
@glossy glacier If it is causing failures after a while, that's worrisome. Driven too hard?
The flyback?
It would get hot if the core on it is saturating.
@rapid hornet Got to run but wanted to thank you for suggesting Discord. Like this forum!
not recommended
@paper peak I dont think so. It is not an area where I have had to fix anything yet.
The flyback is not getting hot, just an inductor atached to it to tune it for the odd drive frequencey.
10% off all items in stock code is MARS expires 7/26/17 @ 11:59pm ET #askanengineer http://www.adafruit.com
Is that an air-core inductor, or does it have a ferrite or iron core? toroid or straight? If too much current, the core will saturate and heat up. So maybe just get a bigger one, same inductance.
@rapid hornet , I'm using the huzzah with circuit playground classic.
Funny you should ask. It is specked as an aircore, but there was a conductive screw that had burn up and fallen out of it.
So bigger wire, same inductance. It might be handling a lot of current.
@paper peak I should probalby just replace it. I realy just want to start using the scope though.
Family matters calling - sorry!
You can wind your own if you know the inductance. Check ARRL handbook ,etc.
night @paper peak
@paper peak Not a bad idea. Night.
night all
@glossy glacier Hi, at Zenith, we used twisted litz wire to reduce the eddy currents when HD came along and we went from 15k to 40kHz in the horizontal deflection circuits. If you rewind your own inductor, you might want to consider this type of wire. Phelps Dodge makes it.
When are multi color Circuit Playground Express boards going to be sold?
@round musk no idea
I'm guessing these boards were shown off during ask an engineer?
which boards?
The multi color circuit playground express boards
I think it was mentioned as an idea
prototypes vary in color too but that wouldn't mean they'd be released
I misread @round musk's question
I thought he was referring to actual boards, not an idea
would like a white version would work nicely with the built in lights
@little oak Thanks for the tip. I am going to put my tempurture probe on it tonight and see how hot it really gets, and if it really is a problem. It felt hot, but could actually be fine.
@glossy glacier , Did you see my idea, and Lady Ada's, about using a Peltier chiller?
@@harsh bone Yeah, definitely something to consider, but if it is getting to hot I think I should replace it outright. I have one I could drop in tonight if I want...
You stated it was "odd".. They make tunable inductors you can make anything...
The form factor and use was odd.
I should be able to get something else in though.
@glossy glacier Could you show a picture?
Old photo of it.
Which one is the inductor in question? Do you have a pointer to the schematic or part list?
The black cylinder or the 4.7 - 250?
Black cylinder.
I am Googling but I don't see any schematics.
Oh man, that is a fun one to find. I have all the shematics as large printouts. It does not specify inductance, only the number of turns.
I am starting the scope up right now to try and furture diagnose the problem. Il let you know what I find.
Do you think the burned screw was an adjustable core to tune the inductance value? I see electrical tape around it?
No, that is also not electrical tape, just a wraper the factory put on it. I have a frind with a inductance meter who is going to mesure this one for me. He already helped with one of the other inductors on the scope.
Scope is warming up. Should be go to go in about 10-15 minutes.
That's good. If you know the physical dimensions (# turns, diameter, etc. , you can also calculate the inductance.
FYI, a Peltier chiller just moves the heat from one side to the other. If your problem is inadequate ventilation, it's not going to help much
You still need a method to draw the heat away from the cooler
Conservation of energy sucks.
I tried that, but demensions are ambiguous. Also @gray nest , i think the coil is just to under specked. Should be replaced.
So if you look inside the wrapper, it's just an air core?
Hold on, let me find you some photos.
I'm on Eastern time and need to get to bed soon. But if you get stuck, take a photo of the schematic and the inside the wrapper, etc. I'd be surprised if the OEM part was under-spec'd, but if it gradually fried itself (like destroying an adjustment screw), then you'd want to figure out what was going on originally. It's possible it's a tuned circuit that needed to be adjusted.
@stuck hollow I am not surprised an oem part is under specked. This thing is baffeling in the way some parts are put together, also this is one of the first scopes ISI ever made.
The later models are in a lot better shape than mine.
This is my spare for this board, but they both are almost the exact same.
So the screw was just fastening it to the circuit board, and it's a bobbin, probably of fine wire?
What's the function of this board?
Yup. I have a photo of the inside of another core almost exactly like this. Will send that and schematic.
This is the driver for one of the flybacks for crt drive and secondary electron capture bias.
This is from a difrent spot, and a slightly difrent spec, but is almost exact same.
Wow, pcb still good?
eh. sure.
Also, mostly complete manual for scope. http://siliconpr0n.org/media/isi/super_iiia/manual/isi_siii-a_k_instruction_manual_kc.pdf
Here we go. This is most of the scopes documentations. Most of my schematics are in better condition that this though. http://siliconpr0n.org/media/isi/super_iiia/
woowee! looking at the schematics now
Pg 3 of this is HV tank, where the good examle of the inductor came from is. It is inductor L3. http://siliconpr0n.org/media/isi/super_iiia/schem_raw/Sbizhub14042118151.pdf
Pg 13 of this is my main power supply. http://siliconpr0n.org/media/isi/super_iiia/schem_raw/Sbizhub14042118180.pdf The board with the inductor on it is N80HB01P-B crt and cint drive.
I see an L3 on page 4m, next to T1. The value is blurry!
Not a value, just turns....
The schematics for the board with the bad inductor is pg 17 right side. http://siliconpr0n.org/media/isi/super_iiia/schem_raw/Sbizhub14042118180.pdf
Inductor L1 lower left side. The whole board is the think betwen the conectors.
the page on the right, lower left hand side of that. Board N80HB01
75T? I see two 75T on left side (when rotated to upright)
Oh, I see L1 in upper right near J6-1
also notes about that l1 SMS-2I 400T
above the schematic
Yup. Just rant the scope, defintly wher the smell is coming from.
Those notes are not for my scope, those are for one of the smaller models with a difrent scinticlator...
Other than that, everthing else in the supply seems very happy.
Could be that there's a bad component nearby, like an electrolytic that's causing excessive current flow. I see some voltage measurements (?) on the schematic, but this is amazingly more complicated than I would have thought.
Do you have someone who reads technical Japanese? My brother does - he does translation work for the auto industry.
I have a frind who can read regular, but not this. If you could have him look at this page that would be great.
Maybe extract this page as an image and highlight the things you want translated. I'm not sure he would know the electronics terms, but I can show him.
But you say this might be different anyway. If you have the manual for your scope, take a picture of that.
... of the page for that board.
I'm short on sleep. I DM'd you with my email.
good night
Thanks! I will get pages off to you.

nice stream @haughty quiver
how'd it go @haughty quiver?
Pretty well, thanks. I may have isolated my main camera problems down to an overheating HDMI converter. So I switched to some different cams and all was pretty good after that
awesome! thats good
LOL here's how one amazon reviewer solved the overheating issue on the capture card.
Bottom of mine was 130 degrees, top 120.
that'll work
So I am thinking about doing a live stream on the microscope. Anyone interested?
I'm in!
Meant to put that in general. Oops.
It's ok, @glossy glacier, I'm stilll in!

That was a good stream. Tony shows Circuit Python Express running thehttps://github.com/adafruit/Circuit_Walker_SneakersCircuit Walker sneakers code (main.py) under Circuit Python and gives
some details on how the code works. You can make a general purpose
shake-activated toy with this -- hot potato, sneakers that light up when
you take a step -- anything with acceleration or .. tapping on the fish tank.
I particularly appreciated the discussion of HSV colorspace (Hue, Saturation, Value) as he's worked out the details for an optically-pleasing color-changer that gives good service to the human response to each hue (it understands the requirement for gamma correction corresponding to color hue).
There is a super interesting device called the Corn Light Bulb which looks like a normal light bulb except that it uses 5736 SMD LEDs
Looks pretty interesting haha
Lot of corn talk tonight. π

I like corn.
Gotta love corn
Good for you, too.
Like, corn on the cob, or corn in the bog, or corn on the dog.
Oops sorry thought I was in the offtopic chat!
Or corn on bob, or corn on the slob.
And the best, corn on the door knob.
There
OH! Can't forget corn in the log.
I know someone who asks "Would you like a corn?" (CHOICE A) instead of (perhaps) "Would you like an ear of corn?" (CHOICE B).
Or Corn? for maximum communication efficiency
The reason we use so many words to form utterances is for redundancy, which improves communications. Short staccato utterances wouldn't work nearly as well, in many noise environments.
The extra words are the error correction, so we don't have to ask for repeats.
Sure.

I asked a couple on YouTube - Is there a plan for a separate BT Wing so we can pair with any base board?
@analog acorn asked earlier: I think we should have a board where all the pins and functionality are pulled out to headers or pins. That way we can maximize the chipset's potential.
How can you check difference from last version of atmel chip?

Hello!
Howdy
Guys I know that you shared the PowerChair Barbie on the blog, but did you ever discuss it here? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2431330
This is a first pass at a Power Chair seat that fits on top of the Adafruit Robot chassis.
https://www.adafruit.com/product/3235
The most helpful thing are probably the mounting brackets which add two stems that you can drop any cover on. They are separate components in the F3D file named "Mounting Bracket"
This is the right size for any 1/6 scale doll - that means Barbie, GI-Joe and lots of others will fit. Great ideas so far are Chelsea (Barbie's little sister) to show that younger kids need mobility and Charles Xavier (of the X-Men).. problem is getting a 1/6 scale Prof. Xavier will run about $100!
What could you bump the battery to without going crazy on the weight? around 10K mAh?
Please post this to the YouTube chat for those talking about powering the neopixels https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neopixel-uberguide/power
Change to this switch and it will disconnect the power to the neopixels ( from BAT) AND ground EN at the same time: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3220
DPDT (I always get that wrong)
Dual Pole Dual Throw switches control two circuits with one switch.
Running the high current draw from the 3.3V regulator can blow up your feather (just sayin')
Like duct taping two normal switches together, but much more practical
Here's how to wire the DPDT approach
Oh! so that's what the third pin on the switch can be used for. that makes sense π
No, Noe π Your switch is SPDT - that means one circuit with two paths
You need a two pole switch
it will have 6 pins
Your third pin is where the current should go when it's "off" (usually left unconnected)
@hard hollow if you have say vector image and want to import it to fusion 360 it need to be dxf file like save from inkscape or illustrator so it work better in fusion360 as sketch face
@pearl shoal like how relay would do
@shell mason ah yeah DFX is probably a better format for that sorta thing
On some boards (like the trinket) I export DFX out of eagleCAD and pop it into f360. works good
it would work with boomy boombox face plate case as well
@hard hollow this week i watched this and make me thinking complex design like boomy boombox https://channel9.msdn.com/Shows/codechat/071
@shell mason yea i gotta sit down and watch this
So I realized that the EN is disconnected when running.... so here's the correct picture:
@pearl shoal interesting, ill have to pick some up and do some testing. good to have these on hand for future projects
@pearl shoal ideally i would need a lowprofile switch - i'm working on a pendent using a jewel and gemma M0
sparkfun has a nice one https://www.sparkfun.com/products/597
Surprised you don't have any in stock in the store (other than the big ones)
You want through-hole. Digikey has a huge selection and you buy from them π
ah yeah, i'll have to let limor know
it can take a few months to get things in the store. for example we're still waiting on getting those slim hdmi connectors =]
yes, nice assortment!
I do worry about this particular guide. Mainly, I think someone will take your guide, put a full meter of 144 pixels on their shield (or another similar project), crank it up to 11 and blow out their feather.
A jewel and a gemma m0, you should be able to run all of that off the Vout pin on the Gemma:
"Vout - This is a voltage OUTPUT pin, it will be connected to either the USB power or the battery input, whichever has the higher voltage. This output does not connect to the regulator so you can draw as much current as your USB port / Battery can provide (in general, thats about 500mA)"
No regulator so it's off the direct line of power, BUT still controlled by the gemma's switch.
@pearl shoal Yes, with a big draw, over 500ma... you're right.... maxxed neopixel at 60ma, so doesn't take huge strand...
Estimate 20mA per pixel according to that
60 to be safe
yeah, the power saving guide is AWESOME>
So, 150 pixels * 20 mA = 3Amps (through the votlage regulator)
you shouldn't hook up pixels thru the regulator, except for a handful.
Feather regulator is rated for 500mA (PEAK) https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-feather-m0-basic-proto/power-management#power-supplies
I don't want to trash you, Noe - I just don't want you getting Feathers returned when it's something you could make a note of and/or correct.
π
@pearl shoal Usage matters: 4m of 60/m pixels running on 3AAs
"The 4m reel draws about 200 mA with all pixels off (the driver chip inside each NeoPixel draws a tiny bit of current, and thereβs a lot of NeoPixels). With brightness set at 1/8 max, various scrolling messages and colors range roughly from 250 mA to 450 mA."
that same strip pushed hard to light it all up at once? Yeah, that'll be a problem.
There's just no benefit to running it through the 3.3V voltage regulator & the risk isn't flicker or browning out - it's frying the Feather
I agree: I wouldn't power pixels thru the regulator ever...
The advantage is not needing a level shifter
But any more than 5 I would power via 5v
To be safe
@pearl shoal how would you fry the feather? wouldn't it just brown everything out?
it'll heat up. The temp control will try and shut it down, and depending on how hot it goes before/if that happens.
https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=130827.0 (example of discussion)
ah crazy! thanks @fallow fractal
@pearl shoal @fallow fractal just catching up now, really appreciate your concerns + tips! it's easy for me to update the circuit diagram and text in the guide. As it stands right now, the only issue i see will be recharging the battery β using the DPDT switches are a good idea however the 3d parts aren't designed to fit the big switch ones we have in the shop.
but yea having to disassemble the build just to take the battery out for recharging is way better than a fried feather.
@hard hollow so that to fit bigger is just params on the switch design
There are DPDT switches that are the same size (or close) to your SPDT switch. It's just that Adafruit doesn't stock them.
One option is to just add a note for now saying that if you're using > 20 pixels or so, you'll want to have a separate power supply for the strips
Or a separate switch
Then, get the DPDT in the store and update the guide when they're available.
@shell mason yea the CAD is relatively easy to update
@pearl shoal ah yea the easier thing to do is place red warning about not cranking the brightness past 100
I know this isn't the feedback you wanted π
heh well i'm not too surprised since this sorta thing has come up before and really should be done right
@pearl shoal @shell mason adding that toggle switch was actually a lot easier in CAD. one feature vs 11 π«
speaking of switches in CAD... The on/off switch on gemma M0 needs a 3d case with a fiddlybit of plastic to support it... (actually, a CPX case could use that too. I did see the case with button push support but it really needed to be tweaked a bit I think)
@fallow fractal like an additional actuator extender? that might be possible, though it is pretty tiny. it's worth a test!

building was easy! coding took me a few attempt @blazing atlas s
@blazing atlas So the microscope uses secondary electrons to make an image. Secondary electrons are affected my a lot of diferent things, such as meterial, scan rate, local topology, spot size, and a lot of other controls, so while the image may have contrast relating to topologly, but you can coralate brightness to absuslute topology.
The shipping to Ireland is pretty good
You still need to pay tax, but its paid upfront so no nasty suprise
@lament flume que caro? (how much?)
@blazing atlas , mainly trouble getting bluetooth working right with my phone
Just a example order of 2 Circuit Playground Express ($50)
@glossy glacier Your microscope project is so freaking cool.
think DHL will be cheaper?

@lament flume worth noting, especially for time critical projects -- DHL to canada for example effectively works out to be overnight shipping for $18

yeah π

hopefully it will make me smarter!
I just brushed it off the other hand knuckle

Miniature Desktop Fan - 12V https://www.adafruit.com/product/3544
This little desktop fan is simple but super handy. It's a ~12VDC fan in a nice enclosure, you can sit it on your desk and power it off of any 9V or 12VDC power supply (even a USB booster ...

So i dont think I am going to stream tonight. Forest fire in BC are making it so smokey out that I can see the haze just across my yard, and my shop is effectivly outside...
So that's what's going on....
That explains why my eyes are bugging me...
@glossy glacier: low visibility here, too.
@glossy glacier where are you?
Haha I had to ask @rapid hornet
Washington state
watch your breathing too y'all
I saw a video from Seattle this evening, it looked very hazy there due to the BC fires
my windows have been open all day....
Best take care of the lungs
It is a lot worse down here than in seatle.
I did notice the sun was more yellow than normal
smokey fires do make for great sunset/rises
Visability down really, really low.
@glossy glacier ... Going for vacation up your way!
that sounds very unhealthy
We're at about 1 - 2 mi on this side of the state.
@harsh bone in seattle?
I know even in Seattle they issued an air quality alert over the smoke
Anacortes, WA / San Juan Islands... boating
That is smoke, not clouds.
And it's supposed to be at or near 100 tomorrow....
holy moly
even worse down south

It's okay, you can only win once anyways. Now I still have the chase/excitement of calling
thx
you could leave a voicemail too @distant harbor
i won my prize already, but it's great
Haha I will @rapid hornet . Gotta whip up an emmy worthy message first
hey, so where should i post the links to the video clips i made of my mini race car kit?
okey doke duh

I do need that water sensor for my basement though. Maybe use my Particle Photon and IFTTT or Twillo to message me when water is detected
From Washington State University (http://lar.wsu.edu/airpact/)
@fickle umbra dont cry, it'll be on youtube π
@gaunt plume OK, maybe I'm crying with joy because after 2 days my AC got fixed? porque no los dos?
thats good too!
@fickle umbra at least you didn't miss discord chat
@rapid hornet True Enuff, Mr Cheerleader!
π
Well, now that I'm awake, if I'm not gonna get to geek out with @glossy glacier , I should prolly work on my leetle project. breaks out new soldering iron
@glossy glacier If it is still hazy consider getting an N95 mask.
@fickle umbra what soldering iron did you get?
Cool, it looks pretty nice for the price
It's kind of hard to know what to do when it comes to irons, I have a cheap Chinese soldering iron from literally close to 10 years ago (admittedly I stopped soldering for about 8 of those) but it's still working fine
Sorry it wasn't that cheap I think it was $50 or something
But if you listen to someone like dave jones from eev blog they are the worst thing in the world
And he would know a lot more about soldering than me
@lament flume way I look at it, I could be without a soldering iron (cuz mine went missing, which I am Rather Salty about) and save up for something like a desktop hakko, which I don't really have room to leave out, or I could get one that appears to be tip-compatible with hakko, easy to stow away, and both looks and is priced like a Shenzen special. If this lasts me a year, I'll call it money's worth.
Did something go wrong with John Park's livestream or do I just not know how to do LIVE, the upload seems to cut short as well. Or was today just a short one?
@heady verge it was a technical error
he didn't realize it went down while he was doing it
I believe he's planning on rescheduling it
@haughty quiver for more info
thx much.
np @heady verge. he's still learning the livestreaming details
so it was 14mins and then stopped?
yeah @shell mason
@lament flume I think these guys do a lot of soldering so their irons have to be good for those occasional edge cases.
But I think when you solder occasionally, you're far less unlikely to hit those edge cases, and so a cheaper soldering iron might work.
Over the years: I started with a Weller iron, then got a Weller desktop model, and now have a Hakko desktop (888 I think, not at home). It is >>>> better than the Wellers. There are reviews which explain the pros and cons. It is a pricey choice so everyone will have a different idea of its value. Over my life, when it comes to tools, I've found it generally works out better in the long run to save a little more a little longer and get something that is really solid and will last. I didn't start out that way. Also, I've get less patient with tools which aggravate me (both Wellers fall into that category). And it does matter what you're soldering. If you're just doing some basic stuff that's one thing, if your trying to do some SMD work I'd recommend the better irons for more precise and stable temperature control. I do love my Hakko purchased after years of thinking it was crazy to pay that much for a soldering iron.
@hollow quest thank you for that. I am making the argument that I should buy the better tools even if they cost more. Was feeling a little outnumbered by arguments about cost-efficiency to get the job done.
If you look around at vids and stuff, you'll see a lot of people who are using Hakko... There a reason π
I was very close to getting the hakko, but it's nearly double the price for me in Ireland than it is US
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
CircuitPython & macOS: Getting Started and Editing Files with Tony D! #programming
@lament flume I bought a used analog Hakko FX-888 off eBay, because I thought the UI of the new digital one was terrible (and ended up having to replace the heating element in the iron part). Watch out for counterfeit FX-888D's -- they're common. Adafruit sells a Atten station which they say is OK, but they recommend replacing the tip(s) provided with real Hakko tips, which are compatible and noticeably higher quality
@paper peak thanks, yeah I tried for a while to pick one up second hand but there isn't a very big market for it in the UK and Ireland
I got outbid a weller a few weeks ago and haven't seen much come up since
The ts100 is ment to be good, so here is hoping!
UK amazon can be crazy slow to Ireland sometimes, I bought on the 3rd and its not expect to be delivered til at least the 12th
I have an old Ungar with screw-in heating elements which is actually pretty nice, but no new parts available. I ended up spending more for the used Hakko + replacement elements than a new one, though now I have two irons (wands).
You're up late and it's not even Wednesday!
Yeah, I had been using a really cheap temperature adjustable one from basically a grocery store, it worked OK but I couldn't find replacement heads and they didn't last too long
I know, I'm a fool!
I'm just going to be now though
03:15, tomorrow Brian is going to pay for my mistakes!
Hope you can wind down and get to sleep easily. I used to have a ritual of putting everything away on the workbench so I wasn't cycling some problem in my head while trying to sleep. Anyway, good night! Take it easy. (Non sequiter - my profile pic is a shot from the Cliffs of Moher from last September. Every time I see you on, I'm remind of our great vacation.)
Oh nice! I've only been there once and I think it might have been the wettest day in history of the country, couldn't even see the cliffs! π
I can thankfully! Enjoy the rest of the evening /night
night!
Anything coming up tonight?
The youtube tag has not changed yet so no hints of a stream tonight so far...
Looks like @glossy glacier is doing more SEM Funtimes tonight.
That's for sure! Here are the schematics of what I am working on tonight.
And here are the caps and diodes.

Hi
hi
hello
Hello
hi sll
yay
howdy
Hi!
Hi everyone!
Hey everyone!
yay!
M0 based lock picking?
@proper trench you just made my heart go pitterpat with that statement
Oh hey, I am routing tonight to!
That's routing music?.... think not
(and in case anyone is interested [because I am ever so sligthy twitchy about things like this] Current delay round trip is ~8sec on twitch)
twitch was ahead of youttube before - same now?
Hi everyone!
depends where you are watching I guess.. Youtube on my laptop was 1 second behind it on my apple tv..
That's not picking (and grinning) music, but perfect for routing.
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
Always start w/ Level shifter!
Sort of sounds like Squackett or Dave Kerzner
@open girder you need a bot to put the track info in the channel π
New SAMD Metro...
This... this def qualifies as hack music... but I don't recognize it. @open girder reference please?
too intense for me when coding, prefer more ambient
Um, is it me or did the stream stop?
just you, phil
Grrr
Can confirm
good here
@pliant surge I've gone on hours-long code-a-thons with 'peril' from the Halo OST on endless repeat
got it π
@open girder nicely done
where did you get the locks?
clear lock factory china
<@&327289013561982976> Which tool did you use (beside the tension wrench)? I favor the diamond pick.
@open girder is that a pick kit inside a fake credit card?
@fickle umbra I actuall prefer silence, but my workplace has chatty ppl, so i use earbuds and very low volume ambient.
I would think we should be able to make a lock picking kit... Just need decent feedback sesning
@fickle umbra yup
makes grabbyhands in @open girder's general direction
@analog acorn a random set i found, trying them all out, we'll do a kit
with a clear lock
Nice
next up blue clear lock
ITS Tactical does a kit with a clear lock, too.
@open girder sweet I'll wait for that kit
Yeah, but we could program one to automatically pick the locks.... servos with feedback
@open girder how long have you been practicing?
ok that was fast! i am getting good at this
@vital bane welp, way too much in teen and hacker years
and now, maybe 1 hour @ day
while i wait for videos to compress, upload and/or on hold on a phone
it's like a fidget spinner but more useful (for me)
thats what I was just thinking
@open girder I used to do the same thing with crochet, before my wrists decided to kibash that idea...
next up pink lock
are the colours all the same difficulty?
For the circuit... I get the pullups for the SPI, but why all the Caps for the level shifter?... doesn't the chip have that built in?
@vital bane they look like different pinsets for the same lock
Can confirm good routing music.
holy crap All the Things >,<
@glossy glacier are you chairdancing while routing?
No, but now that you mention it... Hotkey synchronization?
test
@vital bane Test right back at you.
ok 8 second delay was right π

Hey @open girder, is the blue showing up on the lock video real-life, or a render artifact?
it's a circuit playground lighting up under the lock
prob playground led

is it bad that the vault door at my bank is transparent like this?
Prolly?
only if ladyada and i visit
Hi <@&327289013561982976>#3230
E-Ink Display driver!
does it have funky back lighting?
Wtheck discord
I want!!!
i think i asked this before - any plans for an eink display with a touch surface?
I am now picturing a plexiglass vault door lined with neopixel strips in disco-seziure mode.... blaming you, @vital bane π
My wifi is slow -_-
@fickle umbra you're welcome
I want a disco seziure neo-pixle library now.
@open girder less than 30 seconds a lock is a pretty good pace.
ok 4 locks, all live, and i can't see the lock
with all the cams and stuff in th e way
how many cams tonight?
what is that program she's using?
Scared of you, @open girder
Eagle
Yes, EagleCad
thanks bud
ok, trying to set up a new tiny lock
made by auto desk, widely regarded to be the second best cad package for EDA according to @rapid hornet
Oh, hey, never saw a clear one like that before
Don't think the cam will make it through that lock
guess this counts as open hardware design!
π
?
@open girder I seriously need that credit card pick set.
set the pixel to really dim..
test
That was bright
Nice!
opposite wall of my office all lit up, neighbors must think my place is a disco
@open girder : got to say, I'm liking this. Getting some work done, too.
... a very hip study hall.
@open girder did @proper trench ever do the test where she was going to run autorouting and see how it compared?
I thought she never paid for the autorouter?
she did not
just might be neat. But I know she likes to do it herself. Part of the art.
I'll buy some stuff without the discount code so she can buy it π
SCIENCE
she blinded me with
Ok, I has question on this board: the funky staggered pads on the far left are SD card? I know that pattern is ringing a bell....
sure looks sd cardy
there ya go π
Oh look, she kindly zoomed in so I could see
she showd' ya via eashle
asked and answered!
er, eagle
Thank you @proper trench , & @open girder
Like watching a very good painter...
Slightly tripper than watching Bob Ross π
lol
Watching the locks reminds me of playing skyrim...
@vital bane π
RENDERING THE BOARD
Electronics, lockpicking, good tunes, and icecream.... I say tonight is a pretty good danged night
LA is so smooth with her design skillz. Eagle ninja then she is always designing from Phillip sez
this video is kinda what is happening all the time here, techno, eagle, blinky
it's our apartment at 720p π
YEAH!!!
gwla
Good work @proper trench !
amazing
good work lady ada
great!!
@proper trench you have reached your standard level of work: excelence!
great work, Limor!
Buffering...
I'd love to challenge a pick off
@open girder all this extra time with only 1 chat to watch π
Good work!
good night
@proper trench Watching you work is always a pleasure
thanks for the stream!
I didn't even get to start routing.... Still drawing up custom componets...
well now i am on discord. theres that
@open girder and you didn't do so bad yourself π
Also, thanks @proper trench for the link to the LT SEM stuff!
goodnight
I spent the night after that sourcing LN2...
Goodnight!
good night!
Also, Hai @frail flame from down 35
"slightly" he says... π
@open girder you, much like Austin, are just weird, it's part of your charm, go with it

Hello

Could anyone clear my doubt ?
Doubt?
Yup
In relation to?
Xmega Au Microcontrollers and Arduino IDE and Bootloader stuff and all.......
No doubt they are all fun. Are you just getting started?
Ahhh. When I started I learned a lot on Instructables.com
It didnt help me a lot.......
Gotta find the tutorials and of course everything you need to know is on the net
Could you check out my question at #general-tech
Yeah I saw that and I dont know anything about those controllers yet. I'm on the Atmel site cking em out now
You looked at this yet? https://github.com/Xmegaduino/Xmegaduino
Okay.
I bet @proper trench would love playing with paint3d with board like she did in the latest @open girder live stream

Hi!!
adabot!

everybody's here? π
AND we usually have a huge number of people online all the time.
How many layers can we go

Philips is going background crazy π
hi
Heya!
Oh man, compression is struggling with this.
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
Hello friends c:
Hello?
@glossy glacier because PT keeps changing a high percentage of the image so differential compression can't keep up....
@analog acorn that and compression is bad at transparency...
i dont get how she does manual routing. i need help with auto
Didn't think of that but yeah...
She is a top sciencer
<@&327289013561982976> background is jittering a little bit, which maybe makes high res harder
one thing i would adafrruit made for the raspbery pi is menory board hat that hold up to 4g of menory
cat decided it needed loving. ugh crushing my arm
#pet-photos or it didn't happen.
i would need more arms
and stereo pigrrl case for raspberry pi zero
I love how well behaved this group is.
i'm well begaved the last time i checked
I think Adafruit puts a lot of effort into getting people to be excellent to each other
I COULD pinch you in the arm Daftanima π
heya folks
@faint oriole pls no boss. come solder some neopixels for me instead
i love my resberry pi 3
it's all good here, mostly because all the bodies are buried or smoldering ashes
not much reason for trolls to come here i think
Daftanima deal π
daft punk?
CircuitDJ
My eyes!
(watching this stream on the big TV)
indeed~
i'm not vampire
Party pixels!
leds are giving me a bit of a headache
I can't say I'm a big fan of the flashy colored background.
We'll know AI has arrived when autorouting works
It's kind of a music video
I think I need to learn better soldering techniques. The one time I tried, it looked kinda messy
i saw easy way to make raspberry pi vr headset and all part you need is at adafuirt to buy
touch both pad and part...1 2 3....bang
practice, a good tip, pre tinned wires, and solder wick in case you mess up
not using a over cheap solder iron helps too
