Guess I need to get used to that. Reminds me of a "bad" employee who you can't get through to.
I've been trying it lately to help me code. #1 use is to help summarize/document what is going on. But when it gets into a loop or corner ugh.
Yeah - I find sometimes you have to nuke it and start over.
Two nights ago that was exactly it. Then back to google / reading the doc myself
Mo LLM, mo problems.
PT is right. It's a tool. Not every tool is made to do every job.
Desk of Ladyada โ LLMs Make EagleCAD Footprints - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsReTBDdyHI
This week at the Desk of Ladyada, we're back to hardware... with a baby in a bouncer and an LLM on the clock. The VCNL4010 proximity sensor has been discontinued, so we need to move to the VCNL4030. That means a new EagleCAD library file, and we're testing whether Claude Code (Opus, high effort) can generate one straight from the datasheet.

@bleak yacht - my audio into my headset is set to 50% and it's quite clear - ( suspect your end? )
Howdy, all ๐
I have that S3 USB thing.
Is USB Host supported with CP on that board.
I stopped trying to use that board when the USB Host Feather came.
What's the device name and manufacturer? Missed it when you showed [was audio mode]
Usb-ip is the only way to get usb Into Windows Subsystem for Linux [wsl]
There's a good gui too, with auto reconnect etc [windows focused]
could the USB connection act like a network connection ( forgot the right name for that )
then the IP would be going back into your host over the physical USB that acted like a network card?
But is Dan using AI to review your PR?
He has seen and reviewed your PR without and with AI, so can we have his opinion on how it is different for him?
And you have a Linus Torvald kind of computer...
is it building on the same computer you are streaming from?
Big CPU, lot's of memory.
You can do a draft PR to your own fork of the repositories, get bot reviews then close it and open one against upstream. save sharing it until you're sure it's ready
It's also really hard when you receive a lot of github notification emails, maybe they'll start doing digest or something, so no immediate notifications unless your subscribed/mentioned
Think you only need password, not port, for web api
very interesting Scott! - thanks

@smoky island did you look into using lvfontio?
I think it can do multiple bits per-pixel but haven't tested it
not the core module lvfontio but with the ones from adafruit_bitmap_font yes. I made good progress, but did eventually realize that BitmapLabel needs some adjusting to not clobber parts of the Palette.
awesome!
I will try to get it polished up and submitted to the library this week, then I can look at the core implementation next.

Hi, Everybody ๐
Hey all ๐
Hi Scott. Soory to hear that everyone. was sick.
Oh GH actions, yeah fun, had the image variations problems when trying act to locally run GH actions.
You need to use the large >12gb image to avoid having to apt install loads of stuff, but it's not the default image for act (and still varies a little bit from GH runners)
oh that 64bit but need 32bit is a heck of a wrinkle
I took seriously what you said a few weeks ago regard looking for ways to use feedback when debugging with a coding agent and I've gone down that road heavy. rn I'm setting up a Fruit Jam to run Picoprobe for SWD or JTAG. The rest of the IO can be used to monitor or inject a signals. Also the RP-2350 can emulate i2c and SPI devices. I can be made to actually act like these devices and allow debugging without the actual hardware (hardware in the loop). It's kind of fun to set up debugging HW so the the agent can debug by itself.
when you say "install" are you meaning installing in the cross compiling tools ?
๐ธ๐ช ๐
Was that container start time a docker thing, and because none of the final layers were pre-saved / cached yet (or included variable script bits at the end)? There was some wizardry around how you can optimise the copying in the work volume and doing final steps while still maintaining as many cached layers to your docker image as possible
Turns out the PIO esp on the 2350 are particularly good for setting up HIL configurations.
could print the held packages from apt, might uncover some conflicting dependency being pinned
why not build from source ?
The removal is blocked by the new grub efi package like LLM mentioned, have to resolve that first to be able to remove python3
Definitely feels like it's a GitHub issue rather than you, but then again moving from old grub to new grub-efi isn't a small change, more like a full version change in ubuntu for example.
Ah got you
https://github.com/actions/runner-images (This repository contains the source code used to create the VM images for GitHub-hosted runners )
You gave the LLM the two releases from that repo? So it can evaluate any subtle (lower level dependencies) changes
Ahoy!
More like get it to rebuild the images from each release / tag so it can see the actual built stuff
My GH Actions wouldn't even run today. Failed to pull the containers.
@grand tusk Is that a nod to the anniversary of first phone call on March 10, 1876.
I was able to use the ssh connector in Claude Code without problem.
A small side topic; What are we developers supposed to do while waiting for Claude to finish? I have a customer insisting on me using Claude. ๐
Opus with Zephyr is Amazing.
Claude is quite good at making Home Assistant integrations. Just made a YT Live one so my Google Mini's tell me when Scott goes live.
I was using a my iphone through my mac as a visual feedback for a TFT display ndd when I was setting it up it accidentally got a pic of me from my webcam. I was waiting for CC and looked like I was asleep.
What optional canned skills do you use ?
where is the ccache saved between builds - or does it not persist ?
can you determine if the cache is overflowing ?
is ccache also used when you build locally ?
since using claude resume a lot, I was pleased to see them add /rename so sessions can be more easily found again
That Daisy board is amazing.
Thanks Scott! Have a great weekend all

Hi Scott. I hope all is good with you.
Hi, everyone ๐
Is there a loss in performance running Circuitpython under Zephyr vs native on the boards?
Now I want to play with Zephyr
Thanks ๐ค
Both Codex and Claude Code can get you going with Zephyr. It can set up the scaffold that is needed and get to the point were Hello World or Blink will work.
you were battling github actions last deep dive
if I remember right - you submitted an issue on the github actions
How you used a Saleae logic analyzer using a coding agent?
It's amazing. I'm chasing a timing problem and it's not only is it suggesting how to hook it up but it configures, captures and analyzed the capture. It's a pretty slick HIL workflow.
Could you make your screen bigger for mailbag.
have you pushed your changes back to https://github.com/tannewt/gitfourchette
ah
I see
Dial's RF reader is great
Wilderness Labs has been using the F7
I've been happy with the Netgear POE switches
The Meadow F7 is a workhorse Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled System-on-Module (SoM) microcontroller-based board designed for sophisticated IoT applications and is based on the STMicroelectronics STM32F7 microcontroller (MCU) with an Espressif ESP32 coprocessor.
Have a fun trip. ๐
On PoE, PoDL / sPoE is where it's at. ADI and TI media converter reference designs for T1L to 100 Mbps regular Ethernet are interoperable.
what is PoDL and sPoE?
Single pair.
Cats meow is PoDL with T1S (for multi drop), instead of T1L.
...too bad T1S is half duplex, but whatev....
Power over Data Line. New IEEE stuff.
Wiznet finally adopted it.
....at least 10BASE-T1L SPE part. (Not sure if Wiznet is using optional PoDL over same pair too).
PoE ( power over ethernet) has wide support, easy adoption, low voltage safety, but dedicated wiring for each point + PoE hub / port for each point.
PoDL uses common wiring for several points (loads)... lower material cost... but not as generaly supported, specific implementations are custom.

I am getting started for the morning stream. Showing some work on I2C driver validation agent skill and then getting back to light sensor bar chart from last week. You can follow along on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM4pmKPhMq4 or twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch
I just added an ON AIR sign that lights up when there is a live stream ๐
Would be interesting to see predicted color levels on the graph, too โ the levels expected based on the NeoPixelโs RGB value.
Human color perception is non linear, whereas I expect the color spectrum sensor is non weighted. Another enhancement would be to weigh what the sensors detects to match the intensity the eye would see. That might open the door to mathematically filtering it for dog vision, etc. ๐
Ah, a light meter with a mathematical color filter setting! Cool idea.
The max setting looks like an auto ranging option
When equal to None
Are the bars really off the chart or is the sensor saturated by the bright light?
Never mindโฆ
โฆ but itโs a great example of data +graphing, closer to the sensorโs intended use.
Look at the color of light reflected off the leaves
โฆ or through a leaf
Visible light spectrograph
To measure the amount of chlorophyll

Yes, youโre right. The data sheet says the register bit goes to 1 during the interrupt condition.

Hello, I'm having a problem with an STM32F411CE WeAct BlackPill with 8MB SPI flash, version 3.1. The CIRCUITPY drive isn't showing up.
I have successfully tested the following CircuitPython versions: 8.2.0, 9.2.4, 9.2.8, 9.2.9, 10.0.0, 10.0.1, 10.0.2, 10.0.3.
With CircuitPython versions 9.2.2 and 9.2.3, the CIRCUITPY drive is no longer displayed, but this is documented.
With versions greater than or equal to 10.1.1, the CIRCUITPY drive is also not displayed. Even the self-compiled versions do not work as expected.
Does anyone have any advice?
THX
Hi - you want to ask for help in #help-with-circuitpython - this channel is for discussion during Adafruit's live shows. But to answer your question: that board will not show a CIRCUITPY drive as it does not have native USB, which is why only the .bin is available for download on its page
Ooops. Sorry, wrong channel. I'll repost it in #help-with-circuitpython, THX. The CIRCUITPY is displayed in version 10.0.3. See screenshot:

I've got a 52 " 4k TV that I garbage picked about 5 years ago and I love haing such a big screen.
are there an post linking steps that could detect the failure that cause wifi not to work?

that doesn't sound automated ๐
what about a digital scope and/or signal generator - or tools build with off the shelf adafruit hardware ?
is this the tentacle you mentioned?

did you submit your order to jlcpcb ?
which task will trigger you to try out your board ?
next week ?

I'm a little behind this morning, but getting things spun up now. Will be starting shortly
Okay live now on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqEoPTaRJ48 and twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch trying out the zephyr port for 1st time.
nice job. rp2040 uses maskROM bootloader. chip select (QSPI flashROM chip, iirc) is interrupted by pb switch - uses XIP off flash space 0x50000000
can flash a RAM only program (0x20000000 maybe can't remember) base address
UF2 only way I know to update firmware but SWD may be possible
GPIO25 is the LED ;)
The QTPY RP2040 might have a NeoPixel.
Use Serial.print(SDA); in arduino-speak (print the symbol; get the pin number)
Yeah I've used circuitpython source on github to find the mapping
I saw that there was no power much earlier - just two wires but figured it was on a bus I can't see
Did not notice a shared ground to reference for i2c
yeah I can read hello world on the youtube feed
There was explicit mention of SWD in adafruit zephyr RP2040 sub-tree on github - saw it when looking for pimapping. OpenOCD I think.
This doc may be for wrong board:
https://github.com/adafruit/zephyr/blob/main/boards/adafruit/nrf52_adafruit_feather/doc/index.rst edit scroll down for what I think is correct board
quote:
Flashing Zephyr onto the nrf52_adafruit_feather board requires an external J-Link programmer. The programmer is attached to the X1 SWD header.
I totally missed that this is an old repo.
I was 'right' the first time:
Version of Zephyr used by CircuitPython 3 days ago update
I am on wrong branch maybe
Lol, just when I arrive.
wrt nrf 'sense' mentioned explicitly (did not check date or relevance at all)
https://github.com/adafruit/zephyr/blob/circuitpython/boards/adafruit/feather_nrf52840/board.yml#L9
I was spitballing the entire time you are welcome
it was fun - miracle of telecommunications. 73 nice to see you.

hello Scott
๐
Hi Scott. I hope all is going well with you.
On a non-electronics project I've really got into LLMs to help me in the last few months. Saving typing is a great way to put it (and saving googling time)
I'm working on a HIL system using Fruit Jam. The RP3250 is really suited for this kind of thing.
So basically network bridge (P4?) to USB hub to board to test (or boards?)
just verifying - https://docs.m5stack.com/en/unit/Unit_PoE-P4
The reference docs for M5Stack products. Quick start, get the detailed information or instructions such as IDE,UIFLOW,Arduino. The tutorials for M5Burner, Firmware, Burning, programming. ESP32,M5StickC,StickV, StickT,M5ATOM.
can you go into more detail or repeat what you said about what you patched for the usb-ip brief device disconnect events a minute ago
and hi ๐ happy post-midday friday
That's cool, thank you. does that mean two could arrive at address zero if both needing re-enumeration
so the hub would pick to evaluate one at a time, at your or it's request, cool!
Whats the drawback of the octoprobe-tentacle versus your dream p4 version (ignoring incomplete dreams)
definitely price point, ideally <10-15 per device hosted
isolated net bit has made me realise there's real advantages to SBCs for the HIL stuff, create a wifi AP, has RJ45 or via usb if not, tcpdump MITM all the things
so no ethernet on mcx 444 ?
My digikey impulse buy is usually to get myself up to free shipping
so newbot has read your bio ?
Does it pay taxes?
Does the mini have much of a GPU?
does it have mcp tools / shell access on the 'lift' machine? can it print the free mem after loading model and running a prompt?
I haven't got into local LLMs for coding yet. Curious how they compare to Claude Code (though a lot of the power of it is its prompts, from what I've read)
3rd follow up, now a displays bakground with hello world text (display root group vs show)
Setting up a whole system to use the model, tools, agents, etc. is a lot more work. Was trying to do a RAG search using just local models with so so success
neopixel is one that doesn't have adafruit_ prefix. I think just neopixel would be the correct import.
now you're like only 2k for that much ram, temptation...
so how did the 'knowledge' get into the model ( where was the training targeted ) ?
I wonder what it would cost to take a coding LLM and do a training modification feeding it a ton of circuitpython code.
slurped from github and learn.adafruit.com presumably, all open, although has sometimes had some cloudflare blocking of bots but we do allow llms and offer .md
One 'failing' I've seen to a degree in Claude still, is when I ask to use a fast changing library. It doesn't always look up the latest. (which it can be told to do)
are you watching the clock?
Good reminder!
