#

apparently people are trying to use a rasberry pi/arduino to emulate a ds cart and apparently the ds carts protocol requires very precise timing and low latency. thay say "... The Pico has special programmable hardware in it which make this barely possible.

The strict timing makes it impossible to use other microcontrollers or microprocessors. Even if you have a regular Pi clocked above 1GHz, it still won't work reliably due to it running under Linux, and interrupting your tight loops for so long that you miss a cartridge clock edge.
As for regular microcontrollers, they don't have nearly high enough clocks to be able to spinloop the CPU on them.

You either use an RP2040-based board, or get an FPGA, there is no in-between.
Alternatively you can get something running above 1GHz, but you need to be able to disable interrupts, which is usually not possible." maybe the RP2350 might work. heres the thread i found this info.

Is that pygame displayio still outdated? It was good!
You could do the screenshot testing for displayio on Wokwi.com

Problem solving is one of the top skills I look whenever I'm helping with hiring

old surge

Well that's just it, showing how to work out of a problem is not always something that's available from the learn guides, for example

#

Not to mention that there's no way to include every possible problem area/case

nova totem
#

Livestream vs edited clip are very different types of shows.

old surge
#

I do wish the guides would include a sort of round up of frequently-encountered issues. I bet yourself, Dan H, and all the lovely folks here on the discord who answer calls for help on the regular have a greatest hits of things that crop up

old surge

Thanks for the stream! I might be able to watch a live Saturday for the first time in a while!

# paper peak I sometimes add stuff to the guides or add a warning box, etc. It's a lot faster...

I think I'm mostly fumbling to express a possibility I see in expanding the rhetorical situation of the learn guides to capture some of the flavor of the deep dives and help folks make the shift from beginner to intermediate or intermediate to advanced by using CircuitPython as a touchstone for various topics. Totally a coincidence that it's the sort of thing I'm hungry to read ๐Ÿค“

old surge

Features in a different color 'tag' box?

#

Maybe just larger or bold text for the features list? Just thinking visual separation

#

Invert on hover?

brisk bone

Weird, I posted it, and now it's not there. Not important, probably a me problem

I did a lot of display text stuff recently. One was a take on magtag-literary-quote-clock to use custom cursive fonts on a bigger display, needed to handle baseline alignment. Other is a word clock that uses the animation classes to "scroll" the text; first ease out, update text, ease in from the other side. Curious to see how your project goes.

Got a bit more on super,

2๏ธโƒฃ try passing the parent class to skip then self as args, e.g. super(bitmap_label.label, self).__init__ should skip bitmap_label.
3๏ธโƒฃ The last one was Method Resolution Order (__mro__), but didn't work in micrpython 1.19, which would be

mro[2].__init__(self)

returning the real screen x + y? instead of the relative to parent version?

I found that model in my head fell down once I looked at the tilegrids too, I was trying to get width+height of groups, but found it didn't include widgets bounding boxes, and had to get from widgets directly. This was many refactors ago

Hi, there was a question from "diceymango" about monitoring the dish washer to know when it is finished.
Vibration is the option discussed... but the best is a power mesurement smart plug. You can watch a full cycle and see it warm the water, maybe some motor to move water around, ... so it is easy to tell that after x minutes of very low power consumption, the "cycle" is "finished". Just having such a plug and displaying it on Home Assistant was a live changer in my family.
Especially usefull for cycle with variable lenght depending on "dirtyness" of what you clean.

Apparently in 2017 I had fun with ArtNet that is a kind of DMX512 over IP. I had a raspberry pi with LED matrix pretending to be an ArtNet device, and some software running on my MAC to create visual effect.
So I had fun with DMX without any DMX hardware.

confusingly the API for setting a single LED is strip.setPixelColor(n, r,g,b) where 'n' is the LED to change and r,g,b are the color values. but you can also do .setPixelColor(n,c) where c is a 32-bit number like 0xff00ff

vagrant flax
#

there's also a packed color overload:

void setPixelColor(uint16_t n, uint32_t c);
#

where c is a hex value

tulip canyon

The Uber guide uses intergers
strip.setPixelColor(11, 255, 0, 255);

ooo adabot, nice, and hi all

#

is that stalled one logging whether the request is returning the rate limit info (recently an issue where some endpoints/requests were unexpectedly not providing the rate limit header info)

#

lol, you wanted logs, you got megabytes of logs

#

think there was a PR for that so should be ok

unique cairn
unreal bay
#

that's interesting/useful! In this case the rate limit is not requested, but added as a HTTP response header to most/all API endpoints

unique cairn
tulip canyon
#

Can you visulize the log data? Might help see where all the errors show up?

unreal bay
#

timezones / gmt offsets, probably +1hr

#

oh that makes more sense

#

maybe github is a touch slower in sync terms, so it is still 0 left for the remainder of the second

#

looks in the log like you said, the check continues until the job is cancelled

#

you've got me curious, maybe print the headers from raw.github request

unique cairn
#

What if you search all open issues and PRs from the adafruit org, and ignore results from non-CircuitPython related repos? Basically, try creating an API call with this search query: is:open archived:false org:adafruit sort:created-desc

unreal bay
#

not worth it for 5 replaces, but that kind of find/replace is one of those times I love regex

#

lol, no it's a perfect example, both ffmpeg and regex are used fantastically when used well or at the right moment, and both have a weird situation that once you've mastered enough of either then your desire to shoe-horn it into every situation grows uncontrollably.

unreal bay
#

i'm awful at python, but I thought datetime was timezone unaware and always used local system time, unless you ask for utcnow

#

i did hear of some change. but got confused when trying to play in IO circuitpython+python with timezones, and yeah generally avoid timezones like the plague

old surge
#

GitHub's REST API considers every pull request an issue, but not every issue is a pull request. For this reason, "Issues" endpoints may return both issues and pull requests in the response. You can identify pull requests by the pull_request key. Be aware that the id of a pull request returned from "Issues" endpoints will be an issue id. To find out the pull request id, use the "List pull requests" endpoint.
